[split] Quick questions
Posted by: Reece - 10-18-2015, 03:04 AM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (11)

If you were using a weapon, like a sword, for example, to block an attack, would the strength of that block depend on your DEF (because you're defending), or your ATK (because it's a sword). Also, if you had really high TEC (through a Tier 2 power up, maybe) and a move that let you shoot projectiles out of the air with bullets, would that be the same as the sword?

Also also, what if is was a wide AoE move you were using (like a large blast of magic or a gust of wind)? Would that require the Area Shield Proficiency (since you're defending), or the Area Attack Proficiency (since you're hitting something in order to knock it aside), or both (since you're hitting something and defending)?

  TK701 Reporting for Duty!
Posted by: Stormy - 10-17-2015, 11:24 PM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (1)

"This would happen... Just about to go receive an award for being badass enough to kill a jedi in close quarters combat, and now I'm having a staring contest with a giant floating face in the darkness. Depending on where this goes, I may not even get to brag about it later!" The stormtrooper was thinking this to himself as he stared down a smiling face in the sky, despite the fact that whatever.. That is, might end up killing him, he was only worried about what might happen if he doesn't get out of this place. After all, how many stormtroopers can say they killed a jedi and stole his lightsaber? Then, almost as if the creature knew he was pressed for time, it began talking.

Quote: “My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

TK701 tried opening his mouth to speak, but nothing came from it. He figured that it might just be that this.. Omni's voice echoing in the darkness somehow made him go deaf, but speaking without being able to hear his own voice would just be annoying as hell, so he decided it would be better if he didn't speak at all. He returned his attention to the beast in the sky, who apparently knew that he was taking a moment to be confused about his inability to talk and waited for him to look his way again. A shining orb of colors and pain suddenly appeared before the stormtrooper, and was forced upon him so that he may looks at it's painful array of colors even closer.

Quote:“This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.

The idea of having whatever he desired was very appealing to TK701.. His mind immediately thought about flipping around like a freaking jedi. But a better jedi than the one he killed, that one just sucked too much to even think about throwing the trooper into a tree or something. Heh... Silly jedi. He could use that lightsaber he just got probably! Now THAT, would be cool.

Quote:“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

"So fight to the death for omnillium? Cool, LET'S DO IT!" He thought, all of the ideas of what he could do with this "Omnillium" stuff rushed through his head, and the only thing he wanted to do now was get into this new world and get the game started. Might even try making himself some force powers. THE POSSIBILITIES WERE LITERALLY ENDLESS!

Quote:“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

The stormtrooper tried waving good bye, cause why not be friendly? After all, he was being brought to a world which would allow him to do anything he wanted, be anything he wanted, escape the boring ass empire! So he would wave. Or so he thought, cause when he tried, he couldn't even move. Dick... Wouldn't let him talk, wouldn't let him move, after the rest of those fuckers you brought here, you're next! That was the last thing he could think before a statue resembling his former superiors all laughing at him filled his vision.

"Gah, fuck!" He yelled as he proceeded to fall on his ass from the surprise. It took him a moment to want to look anywhere else... The damn statue just made it seem like there was one big ass joke about to be played on him, or maybe that the joke was only beginning... When he did decide to look at the rest of his surroundings, however, he was very disappointed. There didn't seem to be any people, no scenery, just a big ass white landscape with nothing around it. TK701 made fists out of his hands and placed them on his sides as he continued to inspect the statue. "Seriously, that guy's a dick..." He sighed before walking around to the other side of the gargantuan statue.

This was when he began seeing the actually interesting things. The statue's big ass apparently blocked the sight of 8 large gate-things on the horizon. Each one seemed to be in different condition, or just had different crap coming out of them, and all of them were close enough to walk to. "I guess that's where I'm supposed to be going." He mumbled to himself. But before he went anywhere, he was going to try out this sweet "omnillium" stuff!

He began tossing the ball up and down in his hand, trying to think of how he was going to create the first thing he wanted to create. After all, how are you supposed to take some foreign material and use it to make a lightsaber work? Then it hit him, maybe if he took a piece of the orb he was carrying around and placed it into the hilt of the saber in place of the crystal, it would make a similar blade? The stormtrooper opened the saber and removed it's crystal, then took a small piece of omnillium (which was surprisingly easy to take) and placed it in the slot the crystal once was. "So, I just need to imagine what I want most..." His mind was filled with that sweet, red saber that all of the sith lords use, and only a few moments later, he got good results. 701 could hear that familiar humming coming from the hellish tool in his hands, and he immediately opened his eyes to check it out.

"Holy crap this thing is cool!" He exclaimed as he swung his new toy around the statue. Now it was time to have some real fun. Before departing, he knew what he had to do. Turning to the statue which showed all of his superiors laughing, 701 swung the saber in it's direction, hoping that he could slice all of the legs off and cause it to fall to the ground. But as the blade connected with the stone of the statue, it bounced right off. The trooper's brow furrowed as he turned the blade off and shouted to the world, "Seriously man, you're a fucking dick!"

Character name: Stormy

Character source: OC from Star Wars

Character history: Stormy, formerly know as TK701, was a stormtrooper who often got himself in trouble. Not the kind of trouble that would get him killed, but the kind of trouble one gets into for disobeying their superiors. Because of this, Stormy was placed in a squadron of misfits, well, stormtroopers who are slightly less elite than the rest of them. Most of the time, this squadron was placed on guard duty, but during the rare times that they were sent out to do a mission, Stormy was able to show off his true skills.

There was one mission that really made him stand out. They were told it would be a simple scouting mission. Get in, scan the area, get out. But this changed when rebel scum ambushed them while they approached their destination. Half of his squad died, including his commander, leaving him the next in line for to command the rest of the misfits. The firefight lasted for an hour before the horrifying sound of a lightsaber filled their ears, but only horrifying for the half of the squad who didn’t live for such a moment.

Drawing his two favorite vibroknives, the buckethead ran out from behind cover, blaster fire just barely missing him, and confronted the jedi in melee combat. With the first swing of the jedi’s saber, stormy had already managed to cut off the man’s hand, only to finish him off moments later. This sight alone sent the rebel’s running as their trump card fell before them, and the rest of Stormy’s squad just looked in wonder. Even though it was just an apprentice jedi, it was still a feat not many troopers could pull off, so he was to be awarded and promoted soon after the event took place. Not that whatever award he would get mattered to him, he had a sweet new lightsaber that he’d keep on him. And strangely enough, it was red.. Not many jedi had red sabers.

The night before he was supposed to be awarded would not go as planned, however. When he walked into his barracks, he was met with darkness. When he turned around to figure out why it was so dark, he found that the door behind him disappeared, and was replaced by a white face staring back at him in the darkness.

Physical Description:
Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF: 2
SPD: 2
TEC: 3

Starting Proficiencies: Ranged (1000 OM), Physical (1000 OM), Area Attack (600 OM)

Starting Powers: Basic Telekinesis (400 OM)

Starting Moves: T-21 Light Repeating Blaster (300 OM): A heavy blaster wielded with two hands, strong enough to cut through standard armor and light-armored vehicles. It’s effective range is 300 m since the weapon’s kick would make it nearly impossible to aim past that. Shoots fully automatic, fires lasers.

Dual Vibroknives (300 OM): Stormy’s personal favorite, a vibroknife is a weapon with an internal generator that makes it vibrate. These vibrations make it easier to cut things, like limbs (off), or making what would usually be a small cut, a huge gash. All of this, with little effort from the wielder. Each knife is 1 foot in length, and can easily cut through many things.

Red Lightsaber (300 OM): Soon after coming to the omniverse, Stormy decided to experiment with Omnillium, which resulted in him learning that he can do the same sh*t jedis and sith lords do, which resulted in him making the lightsaber he owns useable for when he didn’t feel like using his trusty vibroknives. This lightsaber had a red blade, and a standard hilt. The blade is 5 feet in length and can cut through most things.

Force Throw (300 OM): Along with his discovery that he could use a lightsaber, just like those force-sensitive beasts that he always looked up to or hated, Stormy decided he’d go even further and teach himself to use the “force” with omnillium as well. So just like all those pesky jedi from the past did, he can lift someone off their feet and throw them without even needing to touch them. Quite the handy trick, but he can only throw them a few feet since using the “force” is a lot harder than he thought.

SUPER MOVE - Charged Blast (600 OM): Again, using the amazing power of omnillium, stormy learned how to power up one of his normal weapons. The stormtrooper places one foot a good distance behind the other, points his T-21 at the enemy, and holds down the trigger. Instead of it firing in it’s normal, fully automatic setting, the weapon begins visibly creating a red orb of light at the end of it’s barrel. This orb eventually grows to have a 3 foot circumference, then launches a beam of red energy (roughly the same circumference as the sphere) at Stormy’s target after 5 seconds. The charging of this move causes the ground around Stormy to shake, showing the power of the attack.

Total OM Spent: 4800

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

  A long way from home
Posted by: The Kid - 10-17-2015, 02:30 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

The Kid was lieing in the grass. He had never felt so.... Tired. The warm feeling of blood over his own body was beginning to go away. For a moment he wondered if this was a bad sign, until he realized that in just a few short minutes he had undone his month of travel. He was not cold, he was at home. His smoldering, blown to pieces, dead home. He could hardly feel the arrows plugged all into his body. His bastion bourbon had been tapped out quite a while ago. He had not a drop to drink. He layed there, feeling very comfortable in this position. He toyed with the idea of dieing now as he closed his eyes and tried to go to sleep.

"Hey Kid!....." Said the strangers voice, standing over him.

The boy put his hands to the ground and tried to push up, he wanted to look him in the eye. But no, he did not have the strength in his body to do so. He struggled and fell, his eye closing.

"Get up Kid."

Once again, he put his fingers to the earth and tried to stand. But no, his mind could not bear to do so. With a grunt his head hit the floor. He had pushed himself up ferther than it had felt.

"Come on, that aint funny. I said get up."

It was all the Kid could do just to find it within himself to try one more time. His arms buckled, he was ready to fall again and he was sure he could not get up. His hands on the ground turned into fists when he thought of how far he had come however. The boy grit's his teeth and just one more time....

Forces himself to stand up.

He was in the arms of the stranger soon, the stranger who was one of his only friends. He just barely knew that the man went by Rucks. He needed the help to step forward, and having that shoulder to lean on was everything. "Just put that shard in the monument there, and then we'll talk." Said the man. The Kid nodded as he reached to his side. There it was, blood soaked and dripping from the moisture of the ice. The last core this side of the planet. He placed it into the socket, and watched as his whole world glowed. He looked around as the landscape knitted itself together. The cracks and the burns faded away. It was as his home again.

"I've got something to show you." Says the man as he takes him downstairs.

The heart of the bastion, the Boy had seen it thousands, if not an infitite amount of times. But right now it was as if he had only ever known about it once. He knew the choice, without them even saying anything it was clear to him. Abandon the old world for the new one, or live on in this one with them. The young man stood up on his own two feet as he looked at the button that would lead to them leaving and the lever which would lead to the entire world coming back together again. He reached out for it, and everything went white just as his fingertips made contact.

A while later

Falling...

Why was he always falling. The mans words couldn't have been true, surely despite how far he had came he simply did not have it in his body to pull the simple switch. His friends would do it sure but... Ground? Why could he see such a great amount of ground down there if he was suppose to be-

*THUD*

He landed, quite surreal given that he expected not too. "GOD Dakuja!" He said as he recoiled from the pain. He squirmed a bit on the ground before he pushed himself off. He was cleaned, unstained. He had the clothes on his back and they weren't bloody. The pain from the fall had already started going away. The boy was taking deep breaths, his heart pounding.

Several seconds later he looked around. There were a number of gates that looked like they led to places...... Hmm.... Well he was hardly going to gain anything sitting here. He headed off for one particular way that looked like it had the least life in it. All sorts of dangers could be hiding around here, no reason to risk it.

  Shardworld: Game within the Dataverse
Posted by: Amaterasu - 10-17-2015, 09:14 AM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (9)

Hey everyone! You probably don't know (yet) but I'm planning to make a game WITHIN the Dataverse. I go a little more in-depth about this in this here thread.

So now, while I'm still working on the idea I wanted to ask if anyone is interested in helping out. You can suggest tasks (essentially Quests, but let's call them tasks because I don't want people confusing these and Omniverse quests), NPCs, monsters and bosses, or just about anything you can think of!

What to keep in mind:
-The Shardworld game a medieval fantasy-themed MMORPG-style thing. Suggestions that don't fit into this (mechs, lightsabers, nuclear weapons...) won't be considered.

-Excessively strong or complicated bosses. Please don't do those. A boss which has 50 different attacks, 4 forms, 20 passive abilities and a conditional invulnerability isn't fun to fight against. Same for a boss that can only be defeated by 5 legendary heroes which also must own a hyper-rare item and stab that one square centimeter of its skin where it's vulnerable which happens to be just about unreachable.

-The more, the better! If you can link a picture to that awesome boss character you suggested and you also have an idea about a backstory of how they were made which can be uncovered during a task, that's awesome. Of course not mandatory, but it helps a ton!

-Keep the Omniverse rules in mind. The Shardworld is meant to be a game within the Omniverse with no clashing rules.

A bit of info and lore about the Shardworld:

I'm not very settled down about this and quite open to suggestions, so don't hesitate to offer up changes!

The Story:
The world of Adalor used to be a magnificient land where magic and technology coexisted peacefully. Humankind lived alongside with the elves, dwarves, goblins, non-human animals and a few types of mythical beasts, though they coexisted in relative peace - there was of course the occasional quarrel over land and the like but never anything of grand scale.
That is, until the Gods descended upon the planet. At first they only observed, but then they began to desire worship and obediance and started to command the inhabitants of Adalor to do so. They rapidly crushed any opposition from the populace using enormous magical powers. It was later revealed that these powers come from the so-called Elder Shards, which are items supposedly created by the Elder Deities, which created and shaped the universe and all that live on it, and were tools to shape the universe before they grew experienced enough to not need them anymore. However, these items still hold a notable fraction of the Elder Deities' power, to the point that simply owning them empowers the wearer, turning them immortal and granting them immense magical powers amd resistances. In essence, the wielder of one of the Elder Shards initially is as strong as a mortal, but with every passing day they become more powerful, eventually reaching godhood status.
Adalor happened to be the planet where the Gods had left the most powerful artifact of all, known as Shardstone, although nobody had ever found it. This is why the gods were drawn to Adalor in the first place, after having collected the eleven other artifacts across their respective homeworlds and longing for even more power. They required servants to find the Shardstone of course, this is why they demanded worship.
And of course, it didn't take long for the gods to start fighting each other as they laid claim to entire races, trying to convert the inhabitants of Adalor to their own religion and clashing as their followers collided in search of the Shardstone. Fights turned into battles, battles into wars, and wars into an all-out God War which ravaged the lands far and wide and dragged even those not worshipping any gods into it as they battled for survival.
One day, a couple of worshippers of the self-proclaimed God of Order got lost as they escaped from a group of pursuers and came across a temple hidden deep underground. In the innermost sanctum of that temple they found a large item resting on a pedestal, and though they had never seen it before they knew immediately that this was the Shardstone. One of them was however killed as he approached the stone and accidentally awoke the stone's guardian, a titanic two-headed beast similar to a manticore. The other of the two escaped and returned to his God to guide him to the temple along with a part of his army. However, even with the power of his best soldiers and his own considerable might, the God was only barely able to slay the beast and take the Shardstone for himself.
Days later, he returned to the surface, wielding the Orderly Staff and the Shardstone together - two of the Elder Shards. In an effort to put an end to the God War, he slammed the Staff down and drew upon his power that he had gained through the Shardstone. However he had severely underestimated his power gain and, rather than simply splitting the Earth and separating the god's encampments from the rest of the world by creating islands out of the pieces of land they were on, the incredible might split the very fabric of reality and shattered not only the planet Adalor was on, but its dimension.
Shocked by what he had done, the God of Order scrambled around in a desperate attempt to undo what he had done, or at least mitigate the damage. Before the pieces of the dimension could drift apart never to be rejoined he drew upon his powers again, trying to force them back together but only managing to loosely attach them back to each other, using dimensional chains which, much like a ship is anchored to the seafloor, would prevent the shards from drifting apart from each other too much. This huge amount of effort was too much for him however, and knowing about his impending death he hid the Orderly Staff and the Shardstone in separate places using what he had left from his magic power.

As a result of the Reality Shatter, as the event is known to this day, Adalor or, as it was renamed, the Shardworld, is a highly unstable place. The Reality Chains keep the world together, but cannot keep it from constantly rearranging itself in a seemingly random fashion. The central shard, the biggest shard from where the God of Order split the world, is the most stable location and due to the large number of worshippers of the Order religion who were there during the Reality Shatter it has been kept in relative shape. There is a central city, a no-man's land built around the temple where the Shardstone was once kept, which is considered a non-combat zone - the other gods silently agree to this. The other shards dock and separate themselves from the central shard and each other in irregular intervals, sometimes staying together for years, other times drifting back apart after a week or two. There are hundreds of shards, of which a number holds one god encampment each - where that god's worshippers have their fortress, palace, church or whatever it may be. If two of those shards meet or an unoccupied shard collides with that of a god-shard, large fights may break out though due to the gods being similarly powerful no real winner is ever set - control merely shifts back and forth. Other shards are peaceful, such as the cities of the godless ones which fend off attackers but don't go offensive themselves. Interestingly, the godless people are much stronger than any of the god factions (without factoring in the strength of their respective god, that is) and thus are actually harder to attack than any of the god-shards.
There are some dwarven-design airships which can bring people back and forth between the shards for a fee (the currency in the Shardworld is gold coins), as well as a God-Ship on the central shard which is dedicated to traveling to the god-shard.

Now, recent findings at the temple where the Shardstone was kept seem to indicate that the Shardstone's presence in these halls has empowered the guardian beast to be able to not only wound, but also absorb the power of the gods it strikes, as was indicated by the God of Order. Traces of his magic have been found in the beast's corpse. And the contents of the room, its walls and ground, even the pebbles lying on the ground, have all gained this power. It is believed that the other Elder Shards have a similar effect on the items they are around of, and that discovery has led the gods to outfit their most trusted soldiers with empowered weapons, whilst the godless have bought large amounts of empowered materials from the people on the central shard. Indeed, using an item empowered with this effect seems to enable its wielder to steal a god's power by attacking them with it, and ascending to godhood themselves by killing that god, even without owning an Elder Shard. And while the gods have grown comfortable and laid-back on their thrones in the safety of their shards, what if this discovery led to the rise of new gods? ... only one way to find out.
What people can do in the game:
Play cooperatively. Because the stats and fighting system is different from the Omniverse rules for player combat, PvP is not allowed as it'd interfere with the site rules. Let's just say that players can't attack each other, their attacks just go through. Thus you can focus on playing together!

Level up, skill up etc. The Shardworld allows for a lot of options, but the levels are the same as the Omniverse levels. Training various survival skills, honing your combat strength in a relatively care-free environment, taking on easy mobs for various supplies and making OM all along the way is a good way to "idle" around the game.

Find ideas for your next move. There's various medieval to semi-modern weapons around (such as dwarven powder-based weapons) which are based on a different power level than the Omniverse counterparts, but you can always recreate that weapon or item outside of the game, using OM.

Do group runs. There's raids in the game that must be taken on by several players, being too hard for just a single person even in strong gear.

Take on the Gods. Well... it's a suicide run if you don't bring a powerful party of people with you. A single player won't even make it to the god as they are protected by hundreds of powerful worshippers that will happily give up their lives to protect their god. Not to mention, they probably won't bother to appear to a single intruder when their generals can take care of the matter.
Taking on the gods can be quite rewarding, especially if you are affiliated with one of their rivals. Kinda like Primes, Gods respawn (unless killed by something that drains them of their powers like an Elder Shard, that'll make them come back as mortals) but dying severely dents their reputation.
Taking on a God with an Elder Shard is possibly the biggest challenge and most rewarding accomplishment, as it writes history in the Shardworld. A player with an Elder Shard will become much stronger than they could by regular means and may even become a god on par with the other gods of the Shardworld. But of course, they'll be a prime target as well...
How equipment works:
Items you find are not "This sword grants +1 to your attack stat" by default. There might be a few of these, but they would be rare or legendary items. Most weapons, armor, trinkets etc. grant a specific number to a stat or two, such as "Steel armor - 4 DEF". If you already have 4 or 5 DEF because you invested your stats into it, the armor will be useless to you, though you can wear it for looks. If you have 0-3 DEF wearing this armor will bump it up to 4.

On your stat page it might look like this:
ATK: 5 (2)(Zweihander) <== Using a weapon here.
DEF: 3 <== Wearing nothing.
SPD: 2 (Boots of minor swiftness) <== Wearing boots for looks, because swag.
TEC: 4 (3)(Tome of the Berserker) <== Equipping a tome here.

Legendary items should be able to get someone all the way up to 10 in one stat, however they bring disadvantages. A 10/10/10/10 character should not be achievable without an Elder Shard.
Elder Shards
These are the equivalent to artifacts in the normal Omniverse. There are a total of 12 in the game. I haven't really decided on what most will be yet.

The Shardstone: The most powerful of all Elder Shards. It was once used to create the other Elder Shards and can infuse the user with titanic amounts of power. It leaks so much power that even a location it is at will retain a residual amount of power after the stone is removed.
It is currently in an unknown location.
The Shardstone holds both near-infinite knowledge and enormous amounts of power which can be directed towards influencing space, time, life and death. Indeed, the user could create or destroy dimensions, kill or revive people provided that they are powerful enough.
The Shardstone has an enormous drawback to using it however: it is protected by spirits from an outer dimension which are breathtakingly powerful. Typically representing mythical beasts such as dragons, chimeras and gargoyles, they suffer great pain when the Shardstone is used and will stop at nothing to kill the user and recover the stone. The more it is used the more they will spawn and the stronger they become, permanently. Currently no god is a match for any spirit.

The Orderly Staff: Currently, like the Shardstone, it is hidden in an unknown location by the God of Order who is now deceased.
It has the power to change the fabric of reality, alter the laws of nature such as gravity and even change the essence of space - for instance it could change a space so that "one mile" becomes something that can be covered by a single step rather than being a moderate distance, or make things which are very close to each other be miles apart instead.
Besides that it costs enormous power to sustain changes applied like that the staff's usage can drive people insane because they alter the fabric that their reality rests on. (ingame this is explained as that the staff causes mental damage which requires a lengthy recovery process. Overusing this will cause your character to die immediately and be unable to use the staff until they recover).

Some sword: Perhaps this artifact could have the power to cut every material in existence except for the other Elder Shards, the disadvantage being that it must be handled with great care. It would be in the possession of a War God (also known as "Big God War Chief") who commands the goblins and orks.

Half-sphere shield: It was intended as a recipient for magic power to collect and redistribute it as needed. It has the power to absorb projectile spells aimed at it entirely and release them as an area explosion. Its downside is that the user can't cast any spells as they immediately get absorbed by the shield.

The Star Eye: A diamond which glows from within. It allows the wearer to locate the other Elder Shards, narrowed down to a specific planet, however everyone who owns an Elder Shard can in return locate the user of the Star Eye. It is placed into a necklace and currently in the possession of one of the gods.

The Horn: A large twisted horn, much like that of a goat, that allows the wearer to mentally control weak-willed beings and individuals (mostly animals). In addition if they have allies, blowing the horn will allow the user to temporarily unite their minds into a single great mind with many bodies, very useful in coordinated combat. The downside is that if someone is forcibly controlled and they break free from within they can break the whole structure. Additionally someone can feign loyalty and betray the entire command structure. If they are sufficiently strong-willed they can submit the entire mind to their will and turn on the horn's owner.
Currently in the possession of one of the gods.

The Mirror: Known as the Mirror of Truth. If someone is reflected in the mirror's image the truth about them will be displayed - this is fairly vague but it allows the user to tell if the other person is lying, for instance, or what their opinion is on something. Its drawback is that if one person looks into the reflection they also must be reflected logically, thus they must reveal the truth about themselves as they gaze into the mirror. It has no offensive power but can still be used as a shield as it's indestructible.
Currently in the possession of one of the gods.

The Wand: A powerful gnarled wand looking quite unseeming when compared to the other artifacts if it weren't for the blue energy coiling around it at all times. It amplifies the magic power of its user greatly, making even small, simple spells very powerful and deadly. It can also be used to return people from the dead, but feeds on the user's lifeforce to do so - meaning that others must either be resurrected as half-dead zombies or are brought back fully alive at the expense of the user's life, if they don't have more lifepower than that person (for instance by owning the wand or another Elder Shard for a long period of time).
It is currently in the possession of one of the gods.

About obtaining Elder Shards: It would be possible to get a shard from a god by challenging and defeating them. Where it gets complex is player-vs-player Elder Shards. My thoughts here would be that it could either be done through non-Shardworld combat where someone challenges the Shard-owner outside of the game and records the victory to prove their superiority. Alternatively the Elder Shards could be something you can steal from people's bases, sort of like artifacts and items.

Some Elder Shards might also be the object of an ingame event or what have you - a god invading a big shard and giving the players a chance to defeat them without gathering a dozen allies to challenge them first.

Another detail: Nobody should own more than two Elder Shards simultaneously, as it'd just be too much power for them.
How to play:
This is probably gonna be subject to modifications before the actual thing is made. But basically it's a basic idea to how someone can join the Shardworld players.

What you need ICly: A base with a VR or Uplink terminal to access the Dataverse. Alternatively you could use the public terminals in Coruscant.
A Communicator is also needed so that challengers may contact you, provided that you have an Elder Shard. If you don't have one, it's still recommended to have one so you can contact your pals and set up dungeon raids.

How to get into the game: ICly the Shardworld would be located far away from File Island and the other points of interest of the Dataverse, as it is a large construct with its own set of rules within the rules, and Aeris doesn't want it to interfere with the rest of the Dataverse - or for the Dataverse inhabitants to bug her. It can be accessed like any other location in the Dataverse though.
OOCly any thread that takes place within the Shardworld must follow the template

Quote:(Shardworld) Thread-name here
with (Shardworld) showing where it takes place. The first post should also include a quote (to avoid OM gain) with a template I would submit, that clearly states that the thread happens in the Shardworld, along with a link to the thread with the game's rules for people to read up (likely in the Soulsverse).
This is important because the Shardworld has its own set of rules in addition to the Omniverse ones, so if people join your thread (especially open ones) they must be able to tell the difference. And since the Shardworld is not part of the original Omniverse we can't expect the admins to keep track of the Shardworld rules and point out your errors.
EDIT:
If the game does kick off with a lot of people, perhaps we would need to establish a system so that not everyone posts within the same thread. Perhaps something like "(Shardworld) Thread title here" would be fitting.

EDIT 2:
Some stuff about the Elder shards added. Also, new "how to play" section.

Just Some Regulations:

  • Please follow all site OOC rules to the letter.
  • Format can be whatever you'd like providing that you follow these rules.
  • This shouldn't need to be said, but please be respectful and offer positive comments. Negativity in any form is highly discouraged. While pointing out all the errors may seem useful 'to you' it certainly doesn't make that person feel good. There are ways to help someone improve without nitpicking. As a rule of thumb try to have 5 Positives for every 1 Negative (courtesy of resident teacher protoman).
  • The above doesn't mean you can't criticize, but there's a way to do it without being negative. For example, make suggestions, don't say something about the topic is 'wrong' or poorly written. Maybe point out a confusing section and suggest revising it for instance, or even offer what you think may have worked better in that situation. Additionally, you could offer to proofread a member's next post for them: be helpful instead. Positive reinforcement will keep people writing and reading here.
  • While you're free to develop your own way of critiquing and commenting, I wouldn't recommend making a 'scoring' scale. This isn't competitive and you're not grading topics. Instead, only offer advice and comments in whatever format you wish. Maybe offer directions the Plot can go from there (whether that is into a new topic or not).
  • As there is a flat rate of 100 OM for participating, I feel I need to include this: please do not skim, thoroughly read before posting. If you skim, especially the wordy topics, you're likely to miss a lot. In addition, please put actual effort into your written responses. I don't want to have to put up a word count requirement for these; so please don't make me question whether or not you have actually tried to help a fellow member, or if you're just trying to get easy OM.
  • OM is a nice incentive but if this starts to be abused, I doubt it will continue to be a reward. Do not abuse this for easy OM. I highlighted that above already, but it deserves a separate bullet. Seriously don't. Please.
  • As a final point: yes you can offer suggestions as to what topics you would like to be included here next. I have no problem with that if you happen to be dying to read a given topic but need some excuse to do so.
  • To claim your Book Club bonus, please include a link to your review (along with the text ‘Book Club’) in the active Fortnightly Gains topic.
  • These regulations should be copied and pasted into every new Book Club topic (in case I don't do it for some reason).

Retroactive Book Clubs:
As you all know, Book Club finishes in line with Fortnightlies, usually (the last one had been open for 4 weeks so I closed it a little early and put the new one up a little early as well). But that doesn't mean they are gone forever!

If you missed out (or miss out) on any Book Club, you may go back and review it for OM. For each 'retired' Book Club thread you post in, you may qualify for 100 OM. However, you must review all the works to receive this, unless one of the topics was written by an inactive member.

The Steps:
  • Open up an old Book Club in the Creative Corner
  • Read and review all the threads picked for the two weeks (unless the author is inactive).
  • Post a link to this review in the Fortnightly Gains thread with the following format - "Retro Book Club #[number here] - *LINK*"
    You must use that format
  • As always, follow all the rules for Book Clubs. Just because they're older threads doesn't mean you can just give poor feedback. Failure to live up to the standards of the Book Club or any attempt at rehashing or recycling reviews (or trying to get rewarded for a Book Club more than one time) will result in losing OM, an angry letter from staff, and the potential loss of Book Club privileges.

To Fell the Fel - Fel orcs are dicks.

This Season's Events

Colosseum Tournament - Since it's not all in one thread, I just linked to the Camelot Forum. Just pick one fight that you wish to review.

Secondary Saga - Phase 4 or Phase 5 - At the request of Dark Link, this has been carried over into the next book club. It is up to you which phase you chose, you also do not need to read the entire thread. I'm going to suggest that you pick a specific person and review their posts only, to make things easier for those who wish to review either of these threads.

Shameless Self Promotion

An Alchemist's Task: Damsel in Distress - Edward embarks on a journey through the Vasty Deep to Rescue a fellow Alchemist. The thread isn't finished, but I am interested of what people think of it so far.

  Stormtroopers

Minato Namikaze Wrote:The storm troopers you see in the nexus would be strong enough to handle any fresh prime.
Except when they aren't. Which is most of the time.
Last I checked, almost half the people on the bounty list got there after killing or at least beating up some stormtroopers... Tongue

It's fine to say that the likes of the Marines and Dredd are capable of taking down Primes, but unless you're retconning out a whole bunch of what's been written on the site already, then you can't really make out the stormtroopers to be anything close to that level.

And honestly, I don't see why you'd want to; it's not like the movies portrayed them as being particularly useful in a fight, after all. Did any of them manage to land a single shot on target? At most, those guys have 1 TEC.

So, my question is: are you sure about that? Big Grin
