A Exploration Of The New and Uncivilized
Posted by: Kalli - 06-17-2016, 08:05 PM - Forum: The Endless Dunes - Replies (22)

Quote:Coruscant, Tier 1. A few minutes before entering the Endless Dunes
Natural sand.
It was quite the sight for someone who came from a planet of pure snowstorms and iced oceans. Sand was filled to the brim in pictures, entire swaths of land covered in sand, even continents! It was hard to imagine that even an entire world would only be covered in sand and rock. Kalli heard of the stories, of the expeditions from her species homeworld, brave souls who ventured into the unknown to find new habitable worlds. Much of these stories started off with sorrow, tales of entire crews dying before reaching their designated systems, colony ships exploding as they couldn't handle the crushing atmosphere, wildlife killing off entire cities. It was all so horrifying when she was young, content with staying inside and dealing with the malfunctioning heaters.
But something kept gnawing at her, a desire to see more, know more- something that her life just didn't provide. Those stories of horrible deaths became stories of respect, strong admiration having grown for those who braved the unknown. Heroes who dared to do anything despite the warnings. Those who perished became idols to her, much to the worries of her mother and her father, though the latter was too busy staying alive in a war zone a whole continent away to actually worry about his daughter.
She felt like one of those heroes, something that she didn't feel while serving as a supposed 'agent' of the organization she was conscripted into. To actually have braved the unknown, this multiversal place, it felt great. She couldn't comprehend why, blood was shed here and enough evidence left to paint her a vigilante, but it felt like real progress. If not for society, then for her, some sort of change that made her better than who she was before. This was certainly ignorance and a lack of empathy for others, but it didn't make her any less worthy of being courageous in her own mind.

Laughably- for someone who felt like a hero -she hadn't even moved through the gate yet.

The citizen behind Kalli rolled his eyes, saying "Excuse me, madam?" while waiting for her to awaken from the long thought process she was going through.
Kalli blinked, shaking her head as if she had suddenly awaken "Oh, right." she replied to the citizen, moving forward in the line that lead to the gate.
The Endless Dunes gate was quite a masterpiece. Not that the gate was rather beautiful to look at, but much rather all the protection surrounding it. An entire checkpoint of stormtroopers surrounded the gate, impatient as well with how slow their day felt. The process to get through was fast and violent, the soldiers taking no time to dawdle. If you were too slow, they'd push you and yell, if you were too fast they'd stop you in your place and pat you down for any contraband, suspicious why someone would be so eager to leave Coruscant. If someone was smart, they'd just follow right behind and do as ordered with little dialogue as possible. Kalli hoped to be so fortunate, but that skirmish in Tier 4 already cost her any privacy in this place.
No solid evidence showed up to prove Kalli one of the shooters who assassinated the leader of a gang. Only one man was left alive, and while he spoke of two primes, one being a small rabbit and the other a tall avian, no one actually accused Kalli of being one of those primes. Was the Empire's soldiers being careless about Tier 4, or just that there were too many non-humans here? Maybe she was given a free pass for not having harmed any law abiding citizens in the process, or maybe judgement was coming and she didn't see it. Kalli didn't want to know either way. She had too much pride in her work, rather worryingly so considering it involved the death of people, mortal beings.
"Next!" The private yelled, another individual would walk forward and get assigned a place to be patted down and scanned by their security system. Those who came back through the gate were even more thoroughly checked then those leaving, though fellow stormtroopers seemed to get it easy when coming back from deployment in the Dunes. "Next!" The trooper yelled again, barely looking up from his datapad as someone walked over. The line continued to decrease until Kalli was the one next.
"Alright, you're a prime, system says level two..." the trooper continued to mutter on about the datapad's contents. He finished quickly, still not looking up despite addressing Kalli "You'll be assigned over th-"
A clatter of boots, loud, noisy, like a parade. It caught almost all the citizens off guard, though the garrisoned troopers here seemed to be at ease about it. The boots kept getting louder until an entire platoon of stormtroopers- thirty men it seemed -walked into Coruscant, carrying more sand with them which piled up on the outskirts of the gate. Soldiers yelled for people to make room, and some even watched as they walked passed, both in awe and in horror.
The entire platoon seemed to be beaten and bruised, with some dried blood on their armor as well. A unlucky individual at the front was without his right arm, his fatigues folded up while his face was plentiful with cuts. If those at the checkpoint hadn't been informed of the platoon's arrival earlier, they would've all been rushing up in order to deliver medical attention. Not like the platoon didn't receive medical attention already- Carrefore probably had it's fair share of medics and a actual facility to help the wounded. But whatever supplies they got couldn't wash their armor, or remove any permanent damage. The platoon itself was stopped after walking a fair distance from the gate, being confronted by the checkpoint commander who showed great respect to them, simply making sure they were given the permit to return from deployment before walking out of their way. The gate went back to normal as if the bruised soldiers never walked past, but Kalli couldn't get the sight of that one-armed soldier out of her head.

"A tip, prime," the private began "don't end up like that unit. And a better idea, don't end up dead." he then began to chuckle as if death was a joke, but either his mortality as a secondary- or maybe the brutality of living over and over again that primes dealt with -made him sigh with sadness or pity. "Move, your position is marked by the blue light." He pointed toward the horizontal line of people, a blue light at the end of said line. Kalli followed the order silently, looking back at the platoon until it disappeared into a transport.
Were those the heroes she admired, embodied in another species? People who lost much in the name of their nation? She began to doubt herself, as well as hating how she thought she was being some sort of courageous individual for committing to exploration. This verse was dangerous enough with armed gangsters, it seemed disturbing that something even worse could be ahead.

***

Despite expectations, this wasn't a desert. Nor was it trying to kill her.
Yet.

A savanna, sparse grasslands and trees with some few wildlife drinking from puddles of water, the more predatory chasing after fellow non-sentient animals, dots chasing each other in the distance. There was plenty of shade, thankfully, but none of it too often to make this place feel safe from the sun's rays, it didn't help that Kalli was already sweating under her combat vest. "Something lighter would be nice." She thought to herself, annoyed with the weight of the vest that she was instantly exhausted by. It wasn't all unpleasant, her fatigues offering protection from the one or two flies desperately trying to land themselves on her arms or legs, but it didn't help that the air kept getting blocked from such fatigues. Her equipment clattered against her as well, pouches of ammunition and shield devices making their own jingle as she walked. Unpleasant as it was, she at least felt prepared in case one of the wild beasts decided to try and take a chunk out of her.
This gate was unlike that back at Coruscant, no massive checkpoint, only four soldiers and their officer, all of who were silent. Their eyes did the speaking for them, watching with suspicion as each person moved through the gate, no matter if they were unarmed, armed, prime or secondary. They didn't trust this place, nor did they trust the checkpoint on the other side, only their instinct, reflexes and their weapons. And they didn't need to speak to be aggressive, merely staring them in the eye felt like a death sentence. Kalli only exchanged quick glances each, moving forward toward the metal sign that was ahead of the gate, right next to the road.
"Carrefore Region" the words were underlined, also the largest on the sign "Carrefore Village" was below it, a arrow pointing upward to where the road was leading. The village couldn't be seen with the naked eye, a dot on the horizon as it were (if no clutter was in the way) but with binoculars, one could easily see the tan buildings and local civilians. While Kalli couldn't quite well guess the distance, it felt unhealthy to not pack herself with extra supplies. Standing a bit to the side, she began the three minute process of summoning up two more canteens of water, as well as a energy bar. While the material began to take form, the stormtroopers kept a close eye on Kalli, one even taking some few steps closer in silence, keeping his rifle in a tight grip. The prime couldn't tell if she was sweating over the heat, or over the pressure of having armed soldier watch over her.
The process continued, the civilians who arrived remaining to observe the summoning with intrigue for only a second before walking along the road, as well as one lucky individual meeting up with a comrade who had a truck waiting for them. After all the movement with everyone beginning their trip toward Carrefore, Kalli was finally done summoning her extra supplies. The stormtrooper double checked what was on the ground before turning about on his heels and walking back to his position at the gate. Eagerly gathering what she had summoned, Kalli attached the canteens to her belt- making a quick snack of the energy bar -and made her move toward Carrefore, keeping some short distance behind the other citizens from Coruscant. Some talked loudly, others kept quiet, one or two armed and watching any animals in the grass, all the while walking toward the village that grew ever closer. Dust still settling from those who rode in a truck.
Despite the exhaustion it was taking to go through the savanna, it was very uneventful, so much so that the casual talk that was happening grew in volume. Laughter was even occurring among the secondaries, at least the small group of unarmed ones. All of them talking as if they were in no danger. Kalli maintained her silence, observing the scenery with expressionless enjoyment, finally away from the constant stress of being under watch by the Empire, for now. As well as being able to breathe true clean air! That was reason enough to stay here for some time before exploring another verse.

The band of strangers reached it's destination. Carrefore- the village that is -a place of some civilized people in the midst of this savanna. A few stormtroopers stood guard at the entrance, one on a roof stop with their rifle at the edge, watching out over the savanna's grassland for any threats. Meanwhile vehicles rushed on through the entrance, Kalli and the rest making room for them to drive on in. She saw their markings, Empire, just like these soldiers. "How much territory does this 'Empire' have?" She thought to herself once more, waiting for the kicked up sand and dirt to settle before moving on into Carrefore. Walking on what could arguably be called a sidewalk, she kept her pace, slipping between civilians in search of a hostel of sorts, someplace for her to rest and change her apparel. Such a place didn't appear for quite some time, and the fact she ran out of water while getting to this place didn't help.
Afternoon was settling in as well, the grasslands outside were slowly fading into the darkness, the yellow light that would glitter the water steadily fading and retreating back to the horizon. Adrenaline kept her upright luckily, her body just as eager as her to find a place safe to sleep in. Never did she dare intrude on the silent civilians who lived here however, all of them kept to themselves it seemed, quietly and respectfully moving about their daily business. Surely if there was a market or shop communication was there, but otherwise, it was a peaceful silence. Such silence she didn't want to interrupt with questions.

  Darth Nihilus switching to Scarecrow
Posted by: Beta Ray Bill - 06-17-2016, 07:10 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (13)

Scarecrow (Dr. Crane)

Character Source: DC Comics/Batman

Character History:

Doctor Johnathan Crane AKA the Scarecrow is a well-known villain in Batman's rogue gallery. Cranes path to becoming Scarecrow started when his fanatic grandmother locked him in a closet for three days, during those three days he overcame childish fears to a point that he was fascinated about fear. In crane's High School years, he was bullied by classmates about his lengthy body, tall frame, and nerdy behavior. Because of his torment, he grew insane and a hatred for people. After majoring in psychology, medicine, and biochemistry in college he worked in Arkham Asylum. During his time in Arkham, he began experimenting on his patients and perfecting his fear toxin. Dr. Crane was later removed  from Arkham when other doctors discovered his experiments. Angry at the world Crane became the Scarecrow and turned to a life of crime. In early years of being Scarecrow, Scarecrow was able to beat Batman many times and proving to be a superb with tactician. The scarecrows most notable act of terrorism is during the Arkham Knight crisis. In the Arkham Knight crisis, the scarecrow was able to cover Gotham in his fear gas. Scarecrow was also able to capture Batman and reveal his secret identity with the aid of Arkham Knight AKA Jason Todd. Arkham Knight realized what he had done and saved Batman. During batman's escape, Scarecrow was forced to take a large dose of his own fear toxin by batman. The fear toxin allowed batman to subdue Scarecrow and take him back to prison. Scarecrow fell into a coma and passed in the Blackgate infirmary there Omni took him.

Starting Moves
 Gauntlet Injector-600

The Gauntlet is attached to Scarecrows right arm. The gauntlet is like a claw that has six-inch needle injectors full of scarecrows Fear toxin. Every time Scarecrow uses the gauntlet it fatigues him. when a subject has the toxin in their system it causes mass fear and slow  small amount of damage for a minute, the gauntlet also has a cool down for 2 minutes during the cool down in the two minutes fear toxin valves refill the injectors if the injector is activated before the refill the dose of serum will have a less effect. The fear toxin causes mass hysteria, paranoia, insanity, and helps scarecrow attack subjects mind, the  toxin also brings out their worst nightmares. The injectors when stabbed and held for a second into a body, go's threw the vain's and into the kidney and brain which cause's damage and the fear effect. The toxin in the gauntlet is concentrated to immobilize target and to the point of not defending and deals small amounts of damage. In some cases when the Fear toxin is used it can make Scarecrow  seem scarier and a lot more powerful but all is an illusion. The gauntlet can also be used to intimidate people and cut down random objects. The gauntlet if used in an extremely large dose of toxin Scarecrow can give the illusion of being the terror beast. Scarecrow in some cases will create other toxins besides his fear toxin.

Fear Grenades - 300

The grenades are shaped as ball grenades and are attached to Scarecrows chest-piece there are about twelve on him at all times. It takes three seconds to pull one out and aim to throw and  2 seconds to start detonation and a minute to detonate the range of the grenades is about six feet. Scarecrow does need concentration to aim and throw one to, start one of his grenades all he needs to do is press a button. When detonated they release the fear toxin that only cause fear no damage to opponent or opponents and lasts for a minute  but can be deflected or the opponent can escape the blast radius. the blast radius of the grenades is about a two-foot radius any person in the radius of the grenade has about a good solid 30 seconds to escape the gas cloud  before fear sets in. The cooldown is in effect exactly after thrown and lasts for two minutes. If scarecrow throws his grenades rapidly it slows down the process of filling them with fear toxin from his toxin valves which are located on his chest. The grenades aren't as concentrated as the gauntlet so it only immobilizes the target, the fear effect only lasts for  15 seconds. The grenades can be thrown while moving but the range drastically changes.

In effect for fear if Scarecrow gets hit the illusion  can be broken but the illusion. fear is just a stun, the toxin only affects characters with TEC level three unless Scarecrow makes a higher dose of his serum. Illusions last for 15 seconds, stun lasts for 15 - 20 seconds

Fear toxin, Scarecrows fear toxin has Different effects for many of his weapons, the gauntlet is more potent and traces of poison, the grenade only has the ingredients of the Fear toxin. The fear toxin can have many differences to none at all.

The blargh-man and his many choices
Posted by: ElFailzalot - 06-17-2016, 05:31 PM - Forum: The Whateververse, Man - Replies (5)

As I have mentioned in passing numerous times now, I have many ideas for my potential third character. I am still about, oh....5.5k OM off from being able to make a third character (as of the time of posting this) but OH WELL never hurts to plan for the future. I'll get around to being able to do it eventually.

ANYWAY. The ideas I have, for the most part I have some nifty ideas planned out for the lot of them, to one degree or another. Problem is, I am an indecisive little shit and have no idea which one to actually go with. And so here is a list of things that have piqued my interest for potential third character-ing. If you have a moment, leave a note as to what character you think would be interesting. More notes and such about what my ideas are and varying pros/cons I have in mind will come later.

And HEY, if you want to contribute even more to the insanity and make me pull my hair out even more with indecisiveness, feel free to toss out even more ideas. I will never turn down more ideas.

THE CHARACTERS

Alexander Anderson
[Image: 15207855.gif]

The resident axe-crazy, violently-religious warrior-priest. Probably one of my favorite characters, and one I have played many, many times across many sites. I have a fair bit of experience in playing him, all things considered, and have never once had to struggle to come up with things for him to do. It's been a while since I've played him, though...so a fresh start and return to old, familiar territory might be nifty.

Pros
-- Played him a lot, have a good grasp of what to do and how to progress him
-- Has a fair variety of powers and abilities, making sure he's always got something to spend OM on and work toward from that side of things
-- He would be a very different sort of character from the two I already play, which would be very nice
-- Murder-priest
-- There are plenty of heathens to strike down
-- Technically a good guy, but with a violent streak so wide it'd be tough to get many allies. Fun times managing conflict!
-- THE POWER OF RELIGION

Cons
-- Already played him so much, chance for potential burnout if I feel like I'm retreading the same old thing
-- Constantly having to look up biblical quotes and references to fit into his dialogue
-- There may be too many heathens to strike down
-- The power of religion....

Aya Brea
[Image: 202?cb=20101212164744]

Ah... A character from a game I greatly enjoyed when I first played it. And that scared the at the time young me greatly. I'm....honestly not all that sure I could do this one justice, but it's a character I've wanted to try and play for a long time, and the Omniverse seems like it'd provide the perfect place to do just that. I almost religiously read/watch a very good Let's Play of the first two games at least twice a year, as I do not have the means to play them myself anymore, and I do greatly enjoy the series. Treading unfamiliar territory in the extreme with this one, but staying in familiar areas is no way to grow as a writer. Or something.

Pros
-- As said, I greatly enjoy the source material, and am quite familiar with it
-- Rather fond of the character herself, as well, and....I think I should have a decent grasp of what to do
-- Definitely a few solid ideas kicking around for plot-related things and directions to go
-- So much potential for powers and abilities to draw from, and so many other, new avenues to explore with the freedom of the Omniverse

Cons
-- As said, very unfamiliar territory
-- Pressure to do well to not do injustice to a character and series I am so fond of

The Future Warrior
[Image: dn8p6fs.jpg]

Otherwise known as the main character from Dragonball Xenoverse, a game I rather greatly enjoyed. Lot of potential and overall creative freedom with this one, as they're essentially an OC with a set story they follow through the game.

Pros
-- Version of them I would play would be a bit of comic relief, which would be a nice change of pace from my other two.
-- Naive, easily impressed and distracted, even after the events of the game. Much opportunity for fun.
-- all of the bloody fucking powers and abilities just dear mother of god man
-- I have a bunch of ideas. Just....like, a lot of them.

Cons
-- fuck if i know
-- Potential to turn into a minor/side character who I don't write for as much, serving as a comic relief sort

The Great Papyrus
[Image: Fe2.gif]

So, yeah. Not even gonna lie here; Papyrus is my favorite character from Undertale. Many shenanigans to get up to with him, I've no doubt, and I have....a fair few ideas kicking around. Plus, he has FRIENDS here already!

Pros
-- goofy ass skeleton
-- the best bro ever
-- spaghetti
-- seriously, never forgetti
-- all of the comic relief and lack of seriousness
-- friendpals already present

Cons
-- so...much....comic relief
-- not sure about long-term plot ideas
-- goofy skeleton throwing bones

Darth Vader
[Image: tumblr_nxmktjrb9s1rey868o1_500.gif]

I don't....really have much to say on this one. It be Darth Vader, yo. Plenty of ideas, and plenty of potential I have for him.

Pros
-- Plenty of things to do
-- Plenty of things to buy
-- Lots of people with a lack of faith to find disturbing
-- oh look there's an empire
-- dat theme music though

Cons
-- the pressure

the snowcone Kuzan
[Image: tumblr_mx7hskucJq1sip60to1_500.gif]

:frogsiren: BRING BACK THE MOTHERFUCKING SNOW-MAN :frogsiren:

The character I originally joined the Omniverse, way back when...two years ago. I had a lot of fun, and always managed to scrape together some ideas for something to do. Also one of my favorite characters from One Piece, so that's a plus. Dropped him for numerous reasons involving shattered drive to do much of anything, kind of regretted it ever since.

Pros
-- Already proved I can do the thing
-- Already have ground to stand on for purchases and things
-- Things to get done and continue doing
-- Established ideas and plots I still have notes for floating around
-- New developments since then to provide new things to do
-- motherfucking snowcone

Cons
-- Lingering memory of the burnout that forced me to drop him
-- i got nothing else

Do I have to complete the game in a Let's Play
Posted by: Asriel Dreemurr - 06-17-2016, 02:52 PM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (4)

Thinking about showing off me playing (and failing) Sabrewulf.

I really don't want to complete the whole game on YouTube because the amulets you have to collect to finish the game are randomly placed. My viewers might get bored of me just wandering around the 256 screens of Sabrewulf's maze.

Is it proper etiquette to finish the game on a Let's Play video?

If not, what is the proper name for a video series where I do not finish the game, but rather upload samples of the game with my commentary?

You've been split into two groups.  These groups are outlined in each of the threads.  You're not required to like, work with the other people in your section of the plane.  This is just the starting point.  As people move around or leave, I'll split you off into other threads.

You guys have four days to post.  If it wasn't already clear, I plan to treat this much like I would a D&D campaign or any sort of tabletop experience where I'm the DM/GM/whatever-you-call it.  You guys do what you'd like, and I'll provide prompts or nudging and whatnot as needed.  After four days, I'll eliminate the first person.

As a fun fact -- at the end of this round, I'll officially be on summer break and will be more present for everything.

The front of the plane had fallen straight into the island below like a javelin.  With most of the fuel consumed long before its final impact, nothing heralded the final resting place of the plane other than a few smoldering trees.

Cyborg was one of the first to regain his bearings after what should have certainly been their deaths.  Dragging himself out from beneath the shattered remains of an oak tree, he gingerly walked toward the mass of crumpled, half-burning rubble.

“She’s dead, Jim,” a calm voice spoke from behind Cyborg, who turned to see the man himself.  “You think anyone else is still alive?”  Karl Jak asked with a smile as he walked up next to Cyborg and patted him on the shoulder.  The executive waltzed forward a few paces before he realized he wasn’t being followed, so he stopped on a dime and glanced back over his shoulder.  “You coming or did a few of your bolts get jostled loose during that landing?”

Quote:Your group was in the front-ish end of the plane as it crashed.  Aside from Cyborg and Karl, you may all decide whether you wake up inside the plane or somewhere nearby to it.  You are surrounded by tall trees on all sides.  A thin fog/mist permeates the woods around you, which will only make the whole thing a little more unnerving for those of you who get unnerved.

It’s up to you all to decide where you go from here.  There’s no obligation to stay with the others or work together.

Karl and the other npcs are free to be used by whoever wants to do so.  Aside from Karl, they are all expendable and yinz can do what you want with them.  While he wasn’t overly sociable during the flight, Karl does know who everyone is (he did recruit all of you, after all).  He’ll seem calm and casual with just a dash of snark.  If you speak with him, he’ll mention that this isn’t the island you were trying to get to, and he actually has no clue where you all are, since communicators and DV-devices aren’t functioning properly.
