  It's Ben 10!
Posted by: Formerly Ben10 - 10-29-2014, 04:49 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (9)

Character name: Ben Tennyson

Character source: Ben 10 original series

Character history: Ben is a ten-year-old boy who grew up in Bellwood; he was unpopular and often bullied in his school by two boys named Cash and J.T..

However his life changed the day he went on summer vacation with his grandfather Max and his cousin Gwen. A short time after they left Bellwood, Ben went on a walk through the woods in which they were camping, and witnessed the crash of a strange capsule from space, thinking it was a shooting star. This capsule happened to contain the Omnitrix, a powerful watch-like device, that attached itself onto Ben's left wrist and fused with his genetic code.

At first scared, Ben soon discovered that, using the Omnitrix, he was now able to transform into ten super-powered alien creatures. Unable to remove the Omnitrix Ben eventually learned to use the device in order to become a superhero. Though he occasionally fought and arrested ordinary criminals, he was quickly led to also fight super-villains, starting with Dr. Animo, Kevin 11, and ultimately, Vilgax, a vicious and evil alien warlord who wanted to get the Omnitrix for himself for universal conquest.

Despite being very immature and occasionally using the Omnitrix for minor selfish purposes, Ben is a valuable wearer for the Omnitrix, defeating Vilgax and saving people several times.

Physical Description: Ben's usual clothes consists of a black-striped, white shirt with short sleeves, green pants and black and white shoes with black stripes. Ben wears the Omnitrix on his left wrist. He has brown shaggy hair, green eyes and a rather light white skin tone.

Stats:
ATK: 2
DEF: 2
SPD: 3
TEC: 3

Starting Proficiencies:

Physical Strength = 1000 OMN

Ranged Proficiency = 1000 OMN

Starting Powers:

Alternate Form: Heat Blast = 2000 OMN

HeatBlast Description:

Height and weight are about the same as an average adult male. Five feet and four inchs in height and about 170 pounds in weight.

Basic Jumping= 300 OMN

HeatBlast Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF: 3
SPD: 2
TEC: 2

Starting Moves:

Fireball: HeatBlast can form a fireball in his hand about the size of a baseball, when thrown creates a small explosion upon hitting an object, which is only big enough to damage the person or object it hits. It takes only a moment to materialize and it moves as fast as any other thrown object, allowing HeatBlast to fire them fairly rapidly. Cost 300 OMN.

Fire Weapon: Shapes a basic 3 foot long sword out of fire to use in battle. For Heatblast. Cost 300 OMN.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

  Ron Burgundy
Posted by: Ganondorf - 10-29-2014, 02:19 PM - Forum: Site NPCs - No Replies

[float=right][Image: Ron-Burgundy.jpeg][/float]Location/Role: Ron Burgundy's true location is unknown. However, rumors state that he either is located in his own pocket Verse, or he's actually in the Oververse with Omni.

Ron Burgundy is the go-to name for all news in the Omniverse. If it's happening and worth knowing, you can be sure Ron will tell you about it. He seemingly knows about everything that happens in the Omniverse, even those events shrouded in secrecy. Whether or not he reports on them is another story.

While Burgundy may be well hidden, his veritable army of hovering crystal orbs are a familiar sight to most long-term Omniverse residents. Each is about a foot in diameter and milky white in composition. This color disappears whenever Ron is “interviewing” someone about a story. As such, he has no need for roving reporters.

Story:

Prior to his arrival in the Omniverse. Ron was a well-known news anchor from San Diego, the Spanish translation being: Whale's Vagina. He loved his city, and the city loved him as well. However, all good things must come to an end, and when Veronica Corningstone arrived on the scene, she slowly but surely began to replace Ron. Even as his feelings for her grew, she pushed him from his rightfully deserved lime-light and he was soon conflicted. It was during this time of emotional turmoil that Ron arrived in the Omniverse.

What happened next is shrouded in mystery, but some say that unlike all others, Omni decided not to send Ron to the Fountain. Instead, the man stayed at the God's side, perhaps as a companion or perhaps for some greater purpose.

  Ganondorf-Enel Results
Posted by: Proto Man - 10-29-2014, 12:06 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (3)

Note: These two already agreed to their own conclusion to the fight. I have done this for posterity.

Enel

(Style/Reader) – A combination of both of these categories, but I am such a fan of when people can effectively use small paragraphs as you did at the very start of the fight. When done correctly in the correct circumstances, I feel like it adds so much more to the intensity.

(Grammar) – I’m pretty sure you’re using most of them correctly, but I think you have a bit too many semi-colons. It looks weird. You also had one post where you may have overdid it with ellipses too.

(Reader) – Very nice application of foresight. Very cool how you wove that in with the character development at the end of post 1.

Ganondorf

(Style) – I knew what you were going for with the inner thoughts punctuated with thoughts of ‘kill’ that became increasing infuriated. You may want to try maybe bolding them to help set up the clash. Or maybe have them not be bold. I feel like having them be formatted different will play up the contrast?

(Reader) – Ganondorf seems pretty bipolar in this. He goes from furious to calm to beating Enel into the floor (albeit that last part is in Enel’s next post).

(Grammar) – That first paragraph of your last post seemed like it needed another proofread.

(Reader) – If your goal was to make it ambiguous about whether or not Ganondorf was genuinely seeking a truce, you succeeded. I couldn’t tell if his goal was to end the fighting or just create an opening for his warlock punch.

Both

(Reader) – To be honest, I wasn’t really engaged in the fight until close to the end of Enel’s last post. That’s not to say it wasn’t all well-written, but up until that point, it seemed like the two were having a rough spar rather than trying to murder-kill the other. I wish it would have started with that intensity, rather than having it build up over 90% of the fight, because I was sad when most of the real bloody-knuckle stuff was covered in a few paragraphs of the final post.

(Reader) – That said, I imagine this fight was little more than a setup to future endeavors, and in that case, I think it did well to adjust the balance of ability between the two figures. I will be curious to see how they move forward from this, especially given their egos and personalities.

Proto Score Sheet (Style/Grammar/Reader/Penalties)

I didn’t assess any sort of penalties since you were both comfortable with extending the deadlines.

Ganondorf = (8/3/7/0) = 18
Enel = (9/3/8/0) = 20

Enel wins.

-These two agreed on their own ending to the fight-

  Let's Read: Book Club #1

Just Some Regulations:

  • Please follow all site OOC rules to the letter.
  • Format can be whatever you’d like providing that you follow these rules.
  • This shouldn’t need to be said, but please be respectful and offer positive comments. Negativity in any form is highly discouraged. While pointing out all the errors may seem useful – to you – it certainly doesn’t make that person feel good. There are ways to help someone improve without nitpicking. As a rule of thumb try to have 5 Positives for every 1 Negative (courtesy of resident teacher protoman).
  • The above doesn’t mean you can’t criticize, but there’s a way to do it without being negative. For example, make suggestions – don’t say something about the topic is ‘wrong’ or poorly written. Maybe point out a confusing section and suggest revising it for instance, or even offer what you think may have worked better in that situation. Additionally, you could offer to proofread a member’s next post for them – be helpful instead. Positive reinforcement will keep people writing and reading here.
  • While you’re free to develop your own way of critiquing and commenting – I wouldn’t recommend making a ‘scoring’ scale. This isn’t competitive and you’re not grading topics. Instead, only offer advice and comments in whatever format you wish. Maybe offer directions the Plot can go from there (whether that is into a new topic or not).
  • As there is a flat rate of 50 OM for participating, I feel I need to include this: please do not skim, thoroughly read before posting. If you skim – especially the wordy topics – you’re likely to miss a lot. In addition, please put actual effort into your written responses. I don’t want to have to put up a word count requirement for these; so please don’t make me question whether or not you have actually tried to help a fellow member, or if you’re just trying to get easy OM.
  • OM is a nice incentive but if this starts to be abused – I doubt it will continue to be a reward. Do not abuse this for easy OM. I highlighted that above already, but it deserves a separate bullet. Seriously don’t. Please.
  • As a final point – yes you can offer suggestions as to what topics you would like to be included here next. I have no problem with that if you happen to be dying to read a given topic but need some excuse to do so.
  • These regulations should be copied and pasted into every new Book Club topic (in case I don’t do it for some reason).

This Week's Topic Options:
  • Of Kings Gods and Girls: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&p=8620#p8620">viewtopic.php?f=18&p=8620#p8620</a><!-- l -->
I’ve linked directly to the second page as this is more because Ganon wanted to hear what people had to say about the fight between Enel and Ganondorf. However, you are more than welcome to read to the entire topic as it is a pretty good read if you ask me.

  • Baby Steps and Déjà vu: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1238">viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1238</a><!-- l --> <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1310">viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1310</a><!-- l -->
These topics are the introductions of several Primes, and yes there are two topics there. But, they are closely intertwined with each other. I won’t be mad if you don’t read both, but you may miss something if you don’t, or get confused.

First Week Special Bonus Option: Read the Scramble how it all began. <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=165">viewtopic.php?f=12&t=165</a><!-- l -->
This is a massive intro topic that occurred when the site first opened officially. It is a mess of a topic with comings and goings and a slight lack of consistency. But, it is still a part of this site’s history and while many of the characters there aren’t active or switched out (like myself I played kairi), it is still a fun read. That said this option would take a lot longer as it is huge. So, this option will be available for commentary for next week as well.

As this is being started in the middle of this week - if there is demand for it I'll extend these topics into the next week as well.

That’s all. Happy Reading~

  Community 'Book Club'
Posted by: Omni - 10-28-2014, 02:52 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (6)

So me and the staff have been talking about how to give a reward to people who're giving feedback to others and Ganondorf came up with a sweet but simple idea: a kind of community 'book club'. Every week or two, a new thread gets put up with a link to an IC topic. We post critique and commentary. At the end of every week, everyone who's taken part in the weekly club links to their critique in the weekly gains and gets a bonus 50 OM for their trouble. That's the rough draft.

Now obviously, longer topics might get spread out over multiple weeks. Depending on how many people we've got posting in any given 'season' we might be linking older topics, etc etc. It's quite a job. I want one person in charge of all this and I know we've got a lot of folks here who read through everything. The current active staff already have a fair amount of jobs. That's why I thought I'd open the doors to volunteers from the community.

I have a few people in mind I think would be good for this - Sarah and Dark Link are currently who I have foremost in my mind. But I wanted to see what folks thought about this generally and whether you guys would be up for that. It would basically involve organising what topics would be up for the current weekly topic and having something ready to go on sundays. The rest will get folded into the normal weekly updates.

  [C&C] Kerrigan's Raiders
Posted by: Dark Link - 10-25-2014, 11:52 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (6)

Storyline
(Participants: Sarah Kerrigan, Dark Link)
  • The Ghost and the Fountain - Weakened and with no equipment, Sarah appeared within the Nexus after her encounter with Omni. Recognising her potential, Empire officials sent a company of Stormtroopers to retrieve her. But what should have been a straightforward escort mission became a lot more complicated when other Primes appeared at the Nexus fountain at that time....including a boy dressed in black.

  • Only Shadows in Coruscant - Ongoing
    • It's Only a Bad Dream - During her first night in Coruscant, Sarah experienced a nightmare that brought her face-to-face with malevolent creatures from across time and space.....creatures that knew of her existence.

    • That Which Nightmares Wrought - Ongoing

If anyone is interested in leaving feedback for our posts, this is the place to do it. I'm sure both me and Sarah would appreciate any comments and criticism you might have.

Fortnight of the 26th through the 8th

Step 1: Make a post. This post should be at least 300 words. You may also post multiple times adding up to 300 words or more.

Step 2: Click on the name of your post. See it? It's probably something like 'Re: The Story of John Doe', a large line of text above your post. This should have a hashtag and your post link at the end of it (see the bolded part on the end here: http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1114&p=7298#p7298). Copy the entire URL from your address bar.

Step 3: Post it in the active weekly gains topic. The date of your post should be within the date range, GMT. If you are submitting multiple posts that add up to 300, post all the links.

Step 4 (optional): If you have a Recognition bonus, please include in your post 'Recognition bonus: 175'. If you have an Ascendancy bonus, please post with 'Ascendancy bonus: 200'.

That's all you need to do! When the topic is updated, you will be given 150 OM. Obviously if you have a recognition or ascendancy bonus, this will be increased to 175 or 200.

New weekly gains topics go up every sunday at midnight (at the end of saturday and the dawn of sunday) GMT. The valid time begins on sunday at 0000 hours GMT and ends on saturday at 2359 GMT.

For general off-topic things when the chatbox is empty.

RPG-Directory needs to get its stuff together. It's been in limbo for like ... approaching two months now. Still the shitty transition skin and no topsites. Me feels they underestimated the surprise pains in the asses of switching sites.
