Character Name: Caira Ayryn
(Kaī-rāh Eye-rīn)
Character source: Within the silhouette of a dying universe, there was a light..
Original
Character History
Here is a rendition of her past:
Destruction is Upon You..
Caira’s story really began, when a blade met her neck on the night of the twenty-fifth hour. To recount how all this came to be, there is a single witness, Arbis, an honorable monk whom serves his home community also known as the Core. A few days prior, while meditating, he received a warning that a brigade of meteors that would decimate the Core. Arbis went on a vigil for a week straight, seeking an answer to the question in which all of the council had pondered How are we to be saved?

A meeting would be held for the councilmen to gather, so they could discuss a means of evacuation and survival but it was a desperate fallacy in the place of inherent, forlorn hope. After all, if a civilization is unable to cope, defend, and let alone survive, an ineluctable threat tumbling toward them from space at a ravenous speed, how could they to continue to function as an elite society when imminent death is upon them?

Not twenty five hours before, the first meteorite (of many) had befallen the township, a strident wave of thunder reverberated in the sky whence suddenly, a collision that engendered a wincing impact upon the earth followed by a stentorian cry, at it’s source, an infant.

As Arbis neared the wreckage it became clear that what had apparently befallen in the shape of a star was alive. However the interloper, did not seem to be physically harmed, it was as though the child was perhaps sent on this path or had gone astray from its own. The only remnant of its past still extant, happened to be around her neck. With a name listed, Caira.

“Surely it is but a sign!” One monk proclaimed, all eyes fell on Arbis, expecting his jurisdiction to provide ultimate approval or inevitable condemnation.

Arbis however, offered no exposition, despite being slightly flummoxed as to how the child had been delivered to the exact temple he had just spent vigil in for seven days. He then ventured his way to the meeting of elders, the preceding council was to discuss the epidemic of destruction that would soon befall them.

As the meeting prolonged, the highest elder protested, “This child was sent to obliterate us all!” he was surely convinced that she was the harbinger of the Core’s undoing.
“Surely she represents the infinite potential of our community’s fate, in this form, as a child. . . Perhaps she is the sign we will survive and prosper, as a Phoenix regrows itself from ash.” Arbis announced.
“We must kill it! Destroy it,” he claimed to the other elders of the council.
“You are talking about an innocent child!” One chided.
“Or the fate of the Core!” Another provoked.
“Now now, there’s no proof this child has done anything to deserve execution...” Another of the council offered.
And so it went, the deliberation and debate over a single child’s life continued, while the time dwindled and the whole community was at stake. The decision was made, the council ruled 4-3 and allowed twenty- four hours before killing her, justified by becoming a sacrifice for the Core and for every-being’s protection. If the threat did not cease she would be sentenced to death. Meanwhile, there was no established plan to evacuate the Core, because there was no place to run to, this meant a nil chance of survival for all. It was on the twenty fifth hour the attack was expected, yet so much had been left unsaid. This timing left an hour to commit the execution before destruction became them all.

Arbis returned to the monastery which was all he had ever known but on this day, in his withered arms, he held an infant. His wrinkles showing his seniority contrasting with the youth’s smooth vitality. Doomsday had come, and the council representing millions of lives, had fought over the fate of a single child; even he had no way to know whether she would prove to be the bringer of destruction or if he was holding their savior.

As the twenty-fourth hour neared, citizens of the Core awaited their own destruction. To them, there was no escaping the sky. Their actions revolved between making peace and creating chaos. When the twenty third hour passed, Arbis was to choose between offering up the baby’s life to the council, or to abscond with her, perhaps becoming the Core’s inexorable destruction. He could no longer tell choice from fate, but he was persuaded by a particular connection, a bond he had made with the child, one that convinced him of the power of hope.

When the time came, he neither decamped nor forfeited her, while instead he ensconced Caira and therefore the council sent a mercenary willing to kill the child and havoc was wrought upon the monastery, but despite the esurient raid, there were no casualties. As the hunt protracted, time leaked and as one destiny was averted and fate itself seemed to be avenged. Was the child’s life truly saved if the world came to an end around her? What good would another death do? Arbis was inclined to provide the child with safety, despite its position as the community’s scapegoat or perhaps because of this; perhaps the child would survive to carry on the Core’s legacy (after it had survived a fall from the stars) and become the lone survivor.

Time dwindled and alas the hunter discovered the hidden child covered in the rubble that her own crash-landing had created. The moment his sword went to her neck, with intent to eviscerate the child, chimes marking the twenty-fifth hour swamped the township. The mercenary stopped, narrowing his eyes at the purple eyed humanoid, and at the end of the peal, the sky shook. The baby did not seem to be the cause, and yet, the sky began to fall, in the form of a great legion of meteorites.
The light of the stars in the night could not be seen through the shadows cast by the boulders plunging toward the Core’s vast city and populace. At this moment, Caira reached her diminutive fingers to the sky, and as though directing a mighty force, a web of destruction pierced every mineral hanging above them, its beam lit up the night, with a striking flash it appeared and disappeared in the form of white lightning.
Crumbs of aftermath and disbelief were all that remained. Dust much like ash lightly sprinkled over the whole town, they marveled at the sight of the anomalous miracle that had occurred. But while the Core was saved, the child appeared lifeless, the hue of purple had faded from her eyes, and they became an exanimate gray. While she still breathed, the light of her being had dimmed, so much so, that her breath came once every five minutes. In response the mercenary, whose expression had changed from stricken awe as he observed the power in the sky, to despair seeing the child’s lifelessness, so much was he moved that he knelt and wept before all the monks and survivors.

“Your own man bears witness!” Arbis proclaimed to the council, the mercenary stood on Arbis’s right.
“Now we must, yet again, decide this child’s fate.” Discussion had moved to the council, while Caira, whom had passably recovered from the trauma, slept in front of the council, covered in ash and chilled embers.

“Recognizing she saved the Core, and more threats like this may occur, she shall be raised with you Arbis in your monastery, as her guardian, and in hope a greater sense of justice shall be instilled. You, who wanted her alive shall teach her of peace and You-highest Elder- who desired her death, shall teach her of war. This shall engender in the child a lesson of the true balance of justice.”
“The Mercenary too, voiced his desire to assist teaching her, to recompense the debt he feels is owed.”
“This shall be permitted, if he is willing to become a cenobite.” The mercenary had decided to give his own life to the child whom had saved their lives but whom his judgement of, had been a fallacy, the masquerade he had been tricked into believing, by the highest Elder himself. Over the years, resolute evolution in the Core progressed, and survival allowed the community to prosper marvelously.
And so the youth grew up with: the great knowledge of monks willing to maintain peace in times of indefinite war; the justice of a person who valued peace and prosperity of a community more than all else; the teachings of how to meditate and control her power, by one who had sacrificed all of his to exonerate his own honor, Caira was raised with the truth and as the orphan she was.

(... A continued backstory)

“But I don’t have a last name?” Caira inquired at the age of twelve, to her master Arbis.
“If you like, you may create one for yourself,” he offered, hoping she would recognize she was unlike any other.
“What if I were to take your last name?” As the words left her lips she knew it was against monk teachings to take what was not her own and felt a flash of heat on her cheeks.
“Create one for yourself,” he commanded without a second thought.
“I think, I’ll help others like me create their own names,” Caira pondered with the thoughts still of a naive child, and began to build an orphanage. She had many tales to tell after this, adventures only increased with her age, and there seemed to be many more threats to protect the people from. Demons and dragons from the depths of destruction seemed to reign upon the land testing her abilities further. Once, Caira encountered a large egg and acquired a strange imprint after it had hatched. The cat-like creature that had been inside disappeared but it left a two inch circular mark on her right shoulder that was etched in ink but remained as though it were a tattoo. This disgruntled Caira, whom had already named the egg ‘Kenzu’ after the mercenary whom had lost his life to protect Caira during a quest. An honorably committed companion, she had wished the cat-like creature had remained, so that he would always be with her. Yet, perhaps symbolically, only the circle remained.

...

By age seventeen she had taught the orphans and recruited a whole staff for their care when she was away on commission. Every night she was able, she left the monastery to tell the children a story to help them sleep at night.
Caira pointed her index finger upward, and a small shaded orb protruded a shadowy light, in which fire-like pictures seemed to be etched, as she told the story the children marveled in awe at the motion of the picture on the sphere above her finger.
“What’s inside the sphere?” Inquired the youngest boy one night whom was fascinated by her abilities.
This was a question even she did not know the answer to, so she always offered one that was based on the child’s imagination.
“But you’re not like us,” he said in a serious tone, “Not an orphan in the same way we are, you have parents from another world, you have the monks and a purpose. . . We have our teachers and townsfolk, you aren’t of this world, doesn’t that scare you?”
“Fear is a funny thing,” She pat his head, “If you are afraid of the unknown, much like the dark, how can you say, when the lights go out, it won’t become you?”
The light flickered as he held out four fingers to create a dark shadow.
“I don’t think I get you?”
“Ah, well there isn’t knowledge about my world in this one, so I suppose, the unknown is infinite, as are the possibilities and circumstances of my past. That means I basically could range from the best of the best or the worst of the worst and never know the latter.”
“What’s to protect us from the unknown?”
“Ah, that’s my job. Aren’t I to become the town’s top guard?”

And this was indeed to be her fate, as any adversary that came to purloin the riches of the Core, was met with Caira (as she was growing up), which only enhanced her training regime and allowed her to adequately hone her skills. That is, until something came that she perhaps, could not protect them from.

“Again? Just like the ones from just under two decades ago?” The aged highest elder proclaimed with a snide glance to his predecessor, Caira.
“It was foreseen three nigh’ ago.” One of the monks said.
“When will this happen?”
“We weren’t given a time.” The monk shook his head. As soon as he said that, the sky once again shook just as it had all those years ago many ran outside to assess the threat.

“We still may be helpless against this threat.” Arbis admitted to Caira, knowing the extent of her power, and its limits.
Caira had met his gaze with an insistent frown, “You know that I will do what it takes, no matter the consequence.” Her tone expounded the seriousness of her maturity.

It was only when Caira was in the air, darting from objects and gliding upward, did she notice the rocks had a purple hue, it was as though they were bewitched and were invulnerable to her power. Within seconds she felt the greatest despair of powerlessness. With great agility she dodged and bounced from one astroid to the next, climbing in altitude. Her eyes glinted with determination under the moonlight, she would protect the kids no matter what.
Suddenly, Caira was struck with something, a bolt of tremendous energy that left her body with a strange and distant warmth, she was rendered unconscious, but before she began to fall, through the closing of her eyes she saw her hand reach out and a dark sphere of power absorb the fleet of meteors that threatened all that she had grown to love. The space rock seemed to be absorbed in the sky, and she too, seemed to fall into the darkness.
Physical Description: Unlike native humanoids in her adopted home-verse, Caira has a incongruous shade of purple eyes, that shine under particular light, or the iris’s hue can sometimes protrude in darkness, or glow intensely within a shadow. They are a barometer of her strength as they fade from the utmost of color when her energy has expired, into a shade of dimmed yet luminous silver.

Her figure, at 5’7’’, is tall and slender, and her black hair rolls past her shoulders. She has very pale skin and somewhat pronounced cheekbones. She conveys herself in such a fashion that alludes to an inner untapped maturity. Despite any grimace she may put on during battle, her expression is usually soft and rests in a glow of emanated peace. Caira is in her late teens. With what appears to be an ectomorphic build as her lost humanoid race is identified with, it hides the capacity of detectable strength or potential and acts as a camouflage to mask any potential strength as an adversary.
Her style is a WIP because of plot reasons (STC).

Personality: She is a perspicacious individual, whom never lacks courage, and usually has an optimistic comportment. Some downsides: she is cynical to an extent, and has congenial tendencies. This can limit the amount of trust she shares with others. And effect team missions or perhaps even the most fundamental and rudimentary reliability.

Eclipse (Energy Blast) (300 OM)

Imagine an eclipse, now imagine it being held in a person’s hand. Holdable, tangible, dominant energy that can grow when charged. Surrounding the dark sphere of energy is a faint glimmer of pale light.

The energy blast acts as a sort of cannon, with a rupture of impact. As the size of the orb is around 6” and is a strong condensed form of energy that takes a minute to a minute and a half to fully charge. While charging the user can move but throughout the duration of the charge, must hold their breath. While aiming, in order to be precise, the user is unable to make a rapid movement or else the energy can become off-balanced or askew and basically blow up in her face before it has a chance to deploy.

The user has a balanced and square stance as the blast is launched, the ball of energy departs from her palms held out in front of her and blasts with an ecstatic speed(throughout the duration she aims and concentrates fully despite when her lungs scream for air). The sphere of energy itself appears to revolve, propelling itself forward and perpetuating its own momentum. Upon impact with a foe, the energy blast does crushing and lethal damage as it detonates with an impaling strength.

The user takes a grateful breath and feels a sense of fatigue instill upon her joints, a tiring process, but while the effects remain, so does the damage done. (300 OM)

Hey guys, I am new to this site and don't know anyone very well, but as I was getting familiarized with the rules, the website's format, and just the theme of the roleplay in general, there was a mod that helped me 100% of the way.

And while everyone has been busy for the holidays, manning the fort has been Sarah, and I wanted to create a sort of "Thank You" post to start the new year, just to show her how grateful we are for her endurance and dedication- as she was on and helping the site flow even while she was sick and over the holiday. It's impressive and frankly, I think that it deserves some merit. So I hope everyone who sees this post and wants to show their appreciation will sign it in whatever uniquely beautiful way they feel inspired to do so.
Honestly, I can't say it enough,
Thank You Sarah

Character name:
Mickey Mouse

Character source:
Disney/Kingdom Hearts video game series

Character history:
As a young mouse, Mickey worked as a deck hand on the steamboat Willie, under the tutelage of Captain Pete. He enjoyed a relatively simple life on the river for several years, until he gained knowledge of the Keyblade and left the river to study them.

Soon, Mickey discovered how to travel to other words, and ended up accidentally traveling to the Country of the Musketeers with his best friends, Donald and Goofy. Here, he met the girl of his dreams, Minnie Mouse, and with his friends' help, worked to save her from various threats, becoming a skilled fighter along the way. Eventually, he and Minnie married, and his exploits in the Country of the Musketeers earned him the respect of the people. He and Minnie constructed Disney Castle, and Mickey was crowned King of the Disney realms.

Seeking to further his knowledge, Mickey left court to find the Mysterious Tower, where he found the wizard Yen Sid. Yen Sid took him as an apprentice, and though Mickey was at first quite reckless with his magic, the old wizard saw a spark in the mouse, and kept him on until at last, Mickey began learning control and responsibility. Eventually, Yen Sid deemed him worthy of handling a Keyblade, and presented him with one.

Mickey continued studying and even tried to take the Keyblade Mastery exam several times, but his interest in discovering how to travel to other worlds took over. Eventually, however, the Mysterious Tower was attacked by a group of hostile individuals, and Mickey used his newfound skills to save Yen Sid and the Tower. Satisfied with his pupil's progress, Yen Sid bestowed the title of Keyblade Master upon him, which he graciously accepted.

During the next few years, Mickey worked heavily on figuring out how to travel between worlds, eventually creating gummi ships, a sort of spaceship-type craft that can allow for passage from one world to the next. Soon, however, the King began noticing a subtle darkness creeping up on the land, surreptitiously invading the different worlds under his domain. He left court once again, much to this displeasure of his wife, Minnie, in an attempt to search for the origin of this disturbance - these "Heartless" creatures...

Physical Description:
Mickey Mouse is 2 feet, 3 inches (69 centimeters) tall. He looks, for all intents and purposes, like a large, humanoid mouse, with black fur. His ears are large and perfectly round, and he has a large, black nose, and black eyes. His favorite colors to wear are red, yellow, and white - in fact, it is rare that you will find Mickey Mouse without his white gloves and yellow shoes of some sort.

  Let's Read Book Club # 6
Posted by: Sarah_Kerrigan - 12-31-2014, 01:25 AM - Forum: Bookkeeping Archive - Replies (10)

Just Some Regulations:

  • Please follow all site OOC rules to the letter.
  • Do not post in the Weeklies thread until the Book Club has concluded and been closed.
  • Format can be whatever you’d like providing that you follow these rules.
  • This shouldn’t need to be said, but please be respectful and offer positive comments. Negativity in any form is highly discouraged. While pointing out all the errors may seem useful – to you – it certainly doesn’t make that person feel good. There are ways to help someone improve without nitpicking. As a rule of thumb try to have 5 Positives for every 1 Negative (courtesy of resident teacher protoman).
  • The above doesn’t mean you can’t criticize, but there’s a way to do it without being negative. For example, make suggestions – don’t say something about the topic is ‘wrong’ or poorly written. Maybe point out a confusing section and suggest revising it for instance, or even offer what you think may have worked better in that situation. Additionally, you could offer to proofread a member’s next post for them – be helpful instead. Positive reinforcement will keep people writing and reading here.
  • While you’re free to develop your own way of critiquing and commenting – I wouldn’t recommend making a ‘scoring’ scale. This isn’t competitive and you’re not grading topics. Instead, only offer advice and comments in whatever format you wish. Maybe offer directions the Plot can go from there (whether that is into a new topic or not).
  • As there is a flat rate of 50 OM for participating, I feel I need to include this: please do not skim, thoroughly read before posting. If you skim – especially the wordy topics – you’re likely to miss a lot. In addition, please put actual effort into your written responses. I don’t want to have to put up a word count requirement for these; so please don’t make me question whether or not you have actually tried to help a fellow member, or if you’re just trying to get easy OM.
  • OM is a nice incentive but if this starts to be abused – I doubt it will continue to be a reward. Do not abuse this for easy OM. I highlighted that above already, but it deserves a separate bullet. Seriously don’t. Please.
  • As a final point – yes you can offer suggestions as to what topics you would like to be included here next. I have no problem with that if you happen to be dying to read a given topic but need some excuse to do so.
  • These regulations should be copied and pasted into every new Book Club topic (in case I don’t do it for some reason).

This Club’s Options:
  • The Price of Freedom
Bunnies are adorable. Read this or suffer the consequences. You all have been warned.
  • Fear No Evil
A tale of a man his long walk and the loss of his oh so awesome armaments. Poor Doomy. At least he still has some ammo for those other not as awesomish guns.
  • Giant Country
Deep in an Icy Abyss a lone Undead challenges Giants that like boulders. What first starts out much like a game of Donkey Kong, ends in thunderous close quarters combat.
That’s all happy reading~

Since I couldn't find an official topic for requests to be made to use canon site NPCS, this topic will serve that function. I think we traditionally went about it with members pming staff to use them. However personally, I think it would be wise to make a log to keep track of the usage and the whereabouts of the major NPCS.

In short, post here if you want approval to use an already created site NPC.

  The Pokemon Philosophy
Posted by: Isabelle - 12-30-2014, 02:06 PM - Forum: The Ashen Steppes - Replies (12)

Quote:Continued from: The Price of Freedom

As soon as Lopunny stepped through the cloud of smoke bellowing from the gate’s entrance, she’s immediately blasted with a wall of heat. Against her fur, it was almost unbearable. Lungs filled with smoke, which taste of sulfur. She violently coughs out a lung as she cleared the smoke and steps into the blood red glow of the Ashen Steppes.
The skies burnt red with smoke and ash as a compliment. The ground was scorched, and pools of lava dot the land. Monsters of different shapes and sizes could be seen in the distance, but very sparse. Outside of them, it was a very lonely, hellish place. Lopunny felt the fear creep into her heart, and every bone and muscle of her body was telling her to turn back and go somewhere else, but she knew she had to go forward. This was the only thing that made sense to her. She scanned the horizon. She could see a long mountain range, but the one that stood out the most, the tallest of the bunch, looked more like a really tall plateau with a circle of smoke hovering over it’s ceiling. She guessed that must be Death Mountain. Her destination in check, her obstacles noted, all that was left was to take that first step…
Her knee keeled over and she fell flat on her face. Her nerves were probably out to sabotage her again. Climbing back on her feet, she started the long walk to Death Mountain.

She walked at an incredibly slow speed. Even though she knew she could run like the wind, her mind still felt safer going at a snail’s pace. She was constantly scanning her surroundings, head jolting towards every sound that would be made. But one sound made her stop in her tracks.
‘Foot steps?’ She thought.
She flopped her ears around, hoping to sense the direction of the source; footsteps, four of them, to the right of her. She heard it give off a snort. She turned slowly towards the origin of the sound.
It was a hyena of sorts, but twice the size and with giant spikes instead of fur. Upon noticing that Lopunny has sensed its presence, it gives out a huge roar and starts moving into a full out run in her general direction. Suddenly, snail’s pace didn’t seem safe anymore.
With a kick, she starts running at full speed, not even looking back, she’s just focusing on getting away from her predator as fast as possible. Upon making a good distance, she looks over her shoulder. The hyena was far in the distance, already giving up.
‘Am I really that fast?’

But that moment of introspection was a moment not looking at where she’s going and promptly trips on a rock. She’s thrown forward, making several hard hits against the ground before rolling down what has turned out to be a slope. She grasps around for something to grab onto as she continues to slide down towards what is quickly being identified as a cliff, but there is nothing but dirt and pebbles in front of her to grasps. She continues to claw at the ground, until she slips over the side of the cliff.
However, just as she’s about to plummet, she caught onto a dead tree, which is rooted in a 90-degree angle. The tree bends to her weight as she dangles at the end of the tree. The dead plant was oddly durable considering it’s condition. Considering she could recover pretty well from a fall thanks to her bounce ability, she looked down hoping there was a surface to land on, but just her luck, she was dangling 80 ft above a pool of lava. With nowhere to go, she struggles to climb up the tree.

But then she heard something flapping. Looking around, she sees what looks like a tiny dragon flying her direction. Dangling, helpless, she realized she was at this thing’s mercy. It flew up to her feet. She barely moved out of the way as it tries to nip at her toes with those big sharp teeth it had. It flew up to look her in the face. She could have sworn it was grinning at her. It started to fly away up towards the top of the cliff, and for a second, she thought it was going to leave her alone. But then it spat a tiny fireball at the trunk of the tree.
‘Oh Arceus, why?’
Thinking fast, she swung the now on fire tree towards the inner wall of the cliff. She swung back and forth until her feet touched. And just as she heard the trunk of the tree snap, she jumped against the surface of the wall with all her might, launching her through the air. She couldn’t see where her body was hurtling towards, but she readjusted herself to land on her legs, hoping she wasn’t landing in lava.
After a long airtime, she felt her feet touched what felt like dirt. She did her best to control the momentum of the landing. However she could only cut her momentum in half before she tumbled forward. She would roll to a stop, back against the ground. Miraculously, nothing was broken, but she could feel bruises all over her body, as well as a few cuts. Her pain was stupendous. She slowly drifted into unconsciousness as she succumbed to her agony.

But before her vision faded to black, she saw three indiscernible figures standing over her; accompanied by a voice.
“Aww, you poor thing!” She heard the voice say.

You never quite get used the moving through dimensional gates. Or telepoters, or whatever you want to call them. The pull that feels like gravity has decided it hatred your guts and tried to fling you across the universe, the brief moment when you're in two places at once and you can feel the different airs press against you, and the mental whiplash of stepping in a place where you weren't going, not unlike the feeling of missing a step in the dark. I could only thank my stronger constitution that my first time didn't end with me getting killed with my own puke covering the helmet visor, but I don't think it will ever become a pleasant feeling. At the very least, this time it was a step in a pleasant beach, and not the flesh covered house of pain.

The thing that hit me first as I pulled away from the gate was the ocean breeze, the cool wind and salty smell passing through the vents in my helmet and hitting my face. I could hear the ocean waves churning the water and slapping the sand, hungry birds squawking as the circled overhead, and the hustle and bustle people just near the furthest range of my hearing. But what caught me the most was something that I had been deprived of for longer than just my time in Hell: the warmth of the sun shining on me. In contrast to the stark white plane of existence had been stuck with moments ago, this had been the first time where I felt like I had truly escaped from Hell. Then a boneheaded, dick-less, nimrod wearing plastic white armor and carrying a mass-produced toy gun and his four identical compadres went and ruined that when they decided to surround me in a semi-circle with my back to the gate.

The stand off was rather calm. The five soldiers ahead of me had their guns aimed at the ground, trigger fingers on the guard, and maybe they even had the safety on. They weren't amateurs, at the very least. I didn't have a gun out at the moment, and any attempt to reach for my guns will probably get me shot. That they weren't advancing on me either mean they weren't hostile or they though they we safe from me. A poor assumption on their part, but I wasn't going to push the situation into a fight if it meant I could get a better advantage while their guard is down.

"What is your business here in Costa del Sol?" Said one of them who had a different shoulder pad to mark them out as a higher rank, a voice synthesizer making it had to determined what kind of person was. And their skull styled full helmet made them hard to read. Glancing around the area for any clues I saw a massive and stylized sign with "Welcome to Costa del Sol" practically smacking me in the face with it's bright colors, with a dab military tent barely ten feet beside it adding a nice bit of juxtaposition to the whole scene. I raised my hands up to try to play the innocent and hoped these guys weren't the more mercenary military campers.

"I just got here, to be honest. I don't even know what I'm going to be doing. What's with the security team?" I said, eyeing up the soldiers. The sergeant was stoically silent and seemed like he didn't want to put up with my crap, but a greenhorn in the mists answered for me.

"Two primes stole a naval ship not to long before you got here" the greenhorn answer with a very false sense of authority, and got stared down immediately by his CO. The greenhorn bucked and stepped down while the sarge gave the kind of sigh only given by those who have had a consecutive bad day for a very long time in a job they hated. I could sympathizes. I was guarding a waste processing planet for three years before demons decided to pay a visit. The sarge gave one last look over me and then with a wave of his hands the rest stood down.

"Alright, just don't cause any trouble. We'll have you under watch. Welcome to " The sarge said that last bit with major monotone boredom, and the squad left to leave me to my own devices. I simply gave a shrug, happy to not have to deal with whatever screening process or paperwork this place would normally have, and I walked into the town proper.

The place was charming, in that tourist trap kind of way. A hodgepodge set of customs and cultures, pulled in from the universe just like the people, managing to keep a peace with only a little bit of a push from a completely authoritarian government that was one gate over. It would also be the first time I've noticed the people that have been sucked in here as well, or rather the non-humans dotted along them. In my own world, aliens were still considered a part of science fiction even as we were placing colonies around the solar system, so a giant sharkman wearing a wife beater and swim trunks as he explained fishing with a spear over a rod with what was clearly an elf with a surf board was surreal to the point that it felt like I was the least interesting thing here. Being a bit of a sentimental old sod and completely dubious of whatever food I summoned with the Omnilium, I ending up passing by the numerous shops and salons to find a tiki themed bar-n-grill with the name of "The Waning Moon". The smell of cooking meat was enough to entice me in, and I decided to order some dinner while I figure out what I'm going to do.

I was already down two "tropical" drinks as I waited for my order to arrive, leaning back into the seat of a corner both with my helmet lying on the table, and I tried not to overhear anyone's conversation or otherwise draw attention to myself. But unfortunately for me, a trio of sea dogs in the booth opposite of me had one loudmouth in their group and it was impossible to NOT hear him.

"Captain, I protest," said the loudmouth human, who judging by his crew cut and not terrible teeth is or was a naval sailor. "You and everyone else know that Crescent Lagoon base was abandoned by the Imperials because they were calling as many troops back. It's ripe for the picking, and you and the other superstitious gits are just being stub-" the man was cut off when his captain, a green skin beast of a man, slammed his fist into the table to silence the insubordinate seaman. That the smaller human wasn't smacked was either him being a very high rank in their group or a strange show of respect (or he just didn't want to kill the guy.

"Stuff a cork in it, Perry. Me and da other kaptains agreed that the Imp's story is nothing but bilge, and three other ships trying to looted it ended up haven't even returned." The captain explained in a very low accent, only stopping to take a glug from some neon blue drink with a tiny umbrella in his hand "If ya wanta row a dingy dere yourself, then go right a'ead, but I'm not moving an inch" "Perry" weighed his options, then slumped down on the table and pouted in defeat. I on the other hand was much less deterred, and walked to the other table. Perry and the silent sailor gave me a completely bemused look, while the captain was more interested.

"So, where exactly is this "Crescent Lagoon base" I asked the captain, implying that I had something to offer for the information. The two sailors looked between the two of us, but the captain gave a wide smile instead, revealing a row of razor sharp teeth.

"Lets make a deal"

You know what it’s like for a Pokemon to be in a Pokeball? It’s not the same as a box; a pokemon box creates a computer simulation for the Pokemon to play in. A Pokeball however… well… you know that feeling when you’re half awake in the morning, not quite dreaming but it feels like it? It’s kind of like that. The pokemon is quite aware of their surroundings, but so much information is lost to make the time go by quicker. To be honest, if the humans knew 100% about what it’s like, they probably wouldn’t send their Pokemon back so quickly. But it is how it is, and it’s not entirely their fault anyways. Can’t blame the pawns for how the board is built after-all. Then again, I guess in the chessboard metaphor, they’re more the King and Queen pieces, but that’s beside the point.

The point is that the Lopunny this story is about, she’s been in that ball for a good month straight. She’s so outclassed by her master’s current opponents, she’s not quite much use to him, but he doesn’t quite have the heart to box her. Turns out his sentiment might be more harm than good, as the lucidness eventually became second nature to her. Her reality was the prison that binds her now. Festering in the world her mediocrity brought about. It’s not normal for a Pokemon to blame themselves for anything, usually the blame goes to the trainer no matter the fault. But she couldn’t help but feel like this was because of her doing. So she spent most of the month, thinking she’s constantly dreaming about her failures.

Then one day, out of the blue, she was let out. The sudden rush of fresh air was a shock to the system as her mind races to figure out if she was still dreaming. Objects slowly shifted into focus, grassy fields, blue skies, a giant ghost Pokemon standing in front of her.
She had a double take on that last one.
Standing in front of her was a wide bipedal Pokemon with spikey hair and a large evil grin that struck fear into her heart.
A gengar.

Adrenalin pumping; she turned to her master. It was at this point that she noticed that time was moving so slow. She saw his hand outstretched slowly encroaching on the weird watch on his wrist.
She turned to her opponent again. Panic started to set in as she saw the gengar start to move towards her. She buckled down in fear, closing her eyes, waiting for the attack that was about to land on her.

…an attack that didn’t come.

She looked up again, but this time, all she could see was darkness.
‘Did I die?’ She thought to herself. ‘Did the gengar take my life?’
Then a glowing white human figure appeared in front of her. It spoke in a high and omnipresent voice, which made her reminiscent of legendary Pokemon.

My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it.

She didn’t quite understand. ‘I interest him?’ While the feeling of being wanted made her mildly warm inside, she couldn’t help but be a little concerned. Why would he want her? For what exactly?
The white figure handed her a glowing glimmering orb.

This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it.

She felt herself get more and more overwhelmed by all this. It felt like this Omni was really expecting too much from her.

That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.

And with that, the white void encompasses everything and she finds herself standing on a newly formed surface. She allows herself to plop face down on the ground. To her current mindset, the dirt would have been too good for her. She wasn’t even paying attention to the sound of running water. Her thoughts took over all function.
‘What does this Omni even expect of me? I couldn’t even appease my trainer. What could I do to impress… whatever he is? Where is my trainer even…’
Tears soak the fur under her eyes, as she refused to rise from the hard floor of the Nexus.
“There’s no use!” She yelled. “I’m useless.”
She just laid there for an uncertain amount of times, wetting the ground while her mind reminisces through the usual failures

Until she felt something impact hard against her head. Wincing in pain, she jolted her head up and peered into the direction of the hit. A pair of evil eyes looked down at her, accompanied by the familiar malicious grin…
Gengar!
It took another swing of its foot, impacting it against her stomach. She scrambled to her feet to face her oppressor. Instinct taking over, she awaits patiently for the command.

Oh wait

The gengar swings a punch into her face. She could feel her life force drain as the dead cold hand collided against her wet fur. Two, three, four, he kept swinging at her, but she kept her ground, hoping desperately she could figure out what to do.

“What are you doing? Fight back!” Someone yelled. She didn’t see who the source was. But it was what she needed.

With little hesitation, acting from instinct, her arm flung into the Gengar. Her fist sent out a pulse of electricity that sent him tumbling backwards shaking. However, this move would take its toll on the poor rabbit. All this punches he landed were drain punches. Lopunny’s last attack used up what little was left of her energy. With a little stumble, she toppled over to the ground, where she slipped into unconsciousness.
But this was soon accompanied by horrible terrible pain as her dreams were being ripped out of her head. She went unconscious around a Gengar. That was a mistake.
She felt as if her brain were being sucked out with a straw.
Then, it suddenly stopped. The pain was gone.

Lopunny must have been out for hours. When she slowly came to, she saw someone standing with his back turned to him. He was a pokemon that looked like a yoga practitioner wearing red baggy pants. She recognized him as a medicham.
“Did you save me?” The Lopunny asked. “Thank you.”
The medicham turned to look at her, but looked at her with pure disgust. She recoils a bit from the glare.
“It is shameful for you to fight that way.” He said scornfully.
She looked puzzled. She was used to putting herself down, but not used to hearing it from complete strangers. He turned to look her dead on. Lopunny got a little bit of a chill from his frightful gaze
“It is ok to lose from time to time. It’s the only way we could learn, but we must at least try. It is the medicham way, and it’s important to our kind. That is where you failed.”
“But I’m not a medi-” she began, but she was interrupted.
“That was thunder punch you used back there. The only way members of your race can learn that is through crossbreeding with members of my race. You are half medicham on your father’s side, so you represent us just as much as I do.”
Lopunny had never thought about her lineage. She knew she must have come about through breeding considering she would have remembered being caught in the wild, but it she never knew she had such a complicated back-story.

The medicham turned to face a large gate in front of them. It was composed of red-hot rocks and it was bellowing smoke from within. He handed her a pocket watch.
“In two days, your wounds will heal. Wait at this gate until then. After that, head towards the tallest mountain, at its midsection there will be men made of stone. Ask them for me. I’ll be waiting.”
And with that, he jumps through the gate and disappears into the smoke.

And there she waited for two days, before following in herself.

Sitting upon the stark cliffs that overlooked the ruins of capital Dis and Hell itself, I found myself in what must have been the first time I had a moment of peace in days. I had time to think about the shit I've gone through, the sting of hellfire burns and jagged cuts across my body giving a painful reminder. Not long ago I was slaughtering my way through the last bastion of Hell's army to destroy whatever was controlling the gates. I had to stop them from escaping to Earth. What I found was the Icon of Sin. The gigantic face of some unspeakable monstrosity from which demons seems to spawn from its exposed insides. But that same opening that it created its minions was also the weak point, and fired everything it had into the open body. With an inhuman and roar it buckled and thrashed in its death kneel, and the building that housed it crumbled under the beast's strength. I had barely escaped to the wastelands as the land itself broke and splintered at the defeat of the leader, and what demons were left went with it.

A sniff at the smell of sulfur and blood brought me back and reminded me I wasn't out yet. I had grown sick of this place long before I came back after the invasion, and it was a long walk back to the hellgate. I dusted off some of the caked blood and bile as I got back to my feet, gave Dis one last middle finger, and headed off to Earth with shotgun over my shoulder. As the monotonous march back took its took, I began to wonder just where the bad souls would go now that I've wrecked the place completely. It was last thing I thought before I felt the familiar pull of inter-dimensional travel from one Hell to another.

---

I was plunged into complete darkness, a suffocating inky soup that had no end or beginning. I tired to shout out and to move my body. It seemed I had no control over myself. Fear gripped me. I had though I was trapped, either by some demon trap or my own sanity had finally snapped. But as panicked, I saw someone before me. Someone was here with me, a living silhouette. Although I could not speak, he seemed to know what I wanted to know, and only gave the slightest reaction to the insults and threats I mentally shouted as I pieced out that he was the one who was at fault for my predicament. He told me that he would be watching, and he was done with me I was once against cast into places unknown.

Quote:

It felt like I had awaken from a terrible drunk sleep when conscientiousness returned, even though there seemed to have been no time between then and now. I briefly wondered if it was a dream, but where I stood now did not look like Hell or Earth, and I don't think I could have even fallen asleep standing up. I chased the spider webs from my mind as I scanned the area around me. A white emptiness, like the black space before, but this was not as featureless. Below me feet was a flagstone floor, spreading out from a fountain behind me. It was a ornate shallow pool of water with a central water feature that poured the water into the pool. I would have walked through the water to smash the feature with my hands if it came to mind that it would have been wasting time getting out of here. I began walking across the flagstone, which begin to disperse and spread out until I was standing onto the solid white alone. It was until there was nothing interesting to look for when I noticed that there was weight missing from my back.

"Where's my super shotgun? Where my rocket launcher?!" I yelled out to no one particular, as if the featureless fuckwit that brought me here could hear me "My plasmagun, my chainsaw! Not the BFG! You don't mess with a space marine's BFG, you assclown!" I pointlessly screamed at the sky, other than to make myself feel a bit better. If the shapes nearing the horizon were people they probably would have heard, but I could not care less about them. What was left was the most basic weapons, down to my pistol, shotgun, and chain, and only the ammo that was left in the guns when I was whisked away from Hell. I could have perhaps raged for hours on that spot, cursing the Omni and every god and goddess I could think of when I remembered the mention of the material my kidnapper had mentioned. Omnium, or something. Did he mean it literally he he said what I desired was mine> I held my hand out, and as I though about a shotgun shell a mist seemed to form and solidify in it and a shell appeared. I began to try to will my rocket launcher into existence, but something seemed to prevent it from happening. Oh well, at least I wasn't completely stranded.

Creating a bit more ammo and searching the horizon, I decided that I had to get out of here. I needed to. Then and there I vowed to escape, and if Omni got in my way then I would destroy it. I headed of into the bleak whiteness to find the truth of this place.
