Quote:Sent while Guu was laying in bed, recovering from the Guu'd vs. Evil fight
So I'm not going to burden you by explaining what's been going on in my life as of late. I'm sure your inbox has been filling up about all that as is. However, I've come to appreciate something. As heated as our argument over twitter was, you never came to my doorstep to toss weapons at me.
So, differences aside, I thought maybe we should have a chat sometime. Get to know each a little better. Rise above our religious differences and all that. Maybe we could talk over skype some time soon, and if you're ever in the Tangled, maybe we could swing by the bar and have some age appropriate drinks (still 10.) Bury the ol' hatchet, figuratively speaking. Though, if you want to do that literally, I'm fine with that if you don't mind doing the digging (still 10.)
So, yeah, let me know if you ever want to converse.
[float=right]Hope to hear from you soon,

So, as I am rusty and getting back into the swing of things here as a play by post roleplayer, I have been brushing up on my skills and one of the things that I use to do that is read "CDBZ Roleplaying Guide by Ander"
This was a thread stickied as important on an old community I role played at, many of you know as Chubbs DBZ RPG. As the impending doom is upon that site now , I felt two things. A: This was a nugget of value I didn't want to lose and B: Probably something a lot of people here at The Omniverse would appreciate so I went through the trouble of bringing it here.
I hope you like it as it took me a long time to get it all over here and coded properly. Also, note that most of the links no longer worked, but I replaced what links I could. Enjoy!
o------------------o
|INTRODUCTION|
o------------------o
This guide is for those who seek to improve their role-playing, but either don’t know how or feel like they’ll never get it right no matter what they do. Covered in this are the basics. I’m not going to teach an entire English class—that would take too long. These are the most common problems or situations people confront, countered with the same advice that is redundantly given over and over again. All you need to do is pay attention and put these tips into practice, and you’ll improve in no time! Don’t ever settle with telling yourself you suck. Do something about it! First things first: write in a paragraph format. Never forget that it’s always quality over quantity. People prefer two paragraphs of elegant and inventive rhetoric versus two pages of utter rubbish. Writing takes time. Be patient; don’t force it. No matter how good you are writing must always come from the heart! If you have trouble writing, type up your posts in Microsoft Word or use an online Spellchecker. That’s all you need to know to get started, the rest can be found below.
====================
I. SPELLING AND GRAMMAR
====================
These two are a problem that runs rampant, a seemingly simple challenge that most people have difficulty with. Avoiding bad spelling or grammar is actually easy: type up your role-plays in Microsoft Word before you post them, and use Spellchecker, which is fairly efficient at correcting basic errors. If you don’t have Word, use Spellchecker.net. This tip seems very basic, but it’s golden, and I guarantee it will become one of your best friends. A virtually error-free draft will seem more aesthetically pleasing, and it makes writing easier to read and understand. Honing a sense for spelling and grammar mistakes Spellchecker will not fix (such as most appropriate or convenient comma placing), however, takes time to develop.
-----------------
A. Capitalization
-----------------
This is a very, very simple concept. Always capitalize the first word in a sentence, the first word in a dialogue (there are exceptions explained later down), the words “I” or “I’m” or “I’ve” or “I’d,” and proper nouns. Proper nouns are names, whether they are for people, places, organizations, or even things like attacks and techniques. Examples include: Goku, King Kai, Kamehameha, Planet Namek, or Xero Tolerance. Examples of things that are not capitalized, but often are out of confusion, include: autumn, north, saiyan/saiya-jin, human, or ki/power level. Names or classifications of races/species are not considered proper nouns. Would you capitalize the word “tiger,” for example? No, unless that was the animal’s given name. Many people however, do capitalize racial/species terms, even though it’s not correct.
Dialogue and capitalization don’t seem to be a very good combination for people. You don’t capitalize the very next word after a quotation mark unless it is the beginning of a new sentence that has no relation to the previous dialogue, unless it’s “I,” “I’m,” or “I’ve.”
Quote:Incorrect:
1. “There’s no way he can beat me!” The fighter screamed.
2. “How can you say that...” She began.
3. “This isn’t even close to being over.” He said.
4. “You still don’t know what you’re doing, do you?” He asked.
Correct:
1. “There’s no way he can beat me!” the fighter screamed.
2. “How can you say that...” she began.
3. “This isn’t even close to being over,” he said.
4. “You still don’t know what you’re doing, do you?” he asked.
The only time capitalization after a quotation mark is allowed is if the following sentence is completely separate from the dialogue, and has so reference to it whatsoever.
Quote:Exemption
“Don’t even bother trying.” He charged up an energy blast and fired.
------------
B. Commas
------------
Quote:Incorrect:
1. While he/she was eating a stranger walked into the headquarters.
2. “I don’t understand,” he/she replied obviously confused.
3. He/she slammed his/her opponent into the ground and then blasted them.
Correct:
1. While he/she was eating, a stranger walked into the headquarters.
2. “I don’t understand,” he/she replied, obviously confused.
3. He/she slammed his/her opponent into the ground, and then blasted them.
Commas, commas, commas! You can’t get enough of those damned things. Writers need to learn where to appropriately place them in order to provide the piece with meter and rhythm, which is important for a reader’s interpretation of a sentence. The first example seems harmless enough, but without a comma, the meaning of the sentence is entirely different. Without the punctuation, it seems as though the person being described is eating the stranger instead of eating food as the stranger walks in. That is also a lesson in careful sentence structure! The second one is merely an instance where you would use a pause for effect. Thirdly are compound sentences, which even the best of us get lazy on. Spellchecker won’t pick these up. It is proper grammar to always place a comma before “but” or “and” in a compound sentence, no matter what. The last one is only for real nitpicks. When a comma is not appropriate, use a semicolon, probably the most misused of all punctuation-dom.
--------------
B. Semicolon
--------------
Quote:Incorrect:
1. This was the end, this was the end of it all.
2. Ten warriors stormed Vine’s palace, only two remain.
3. He couldn’t win, he couldn’t beat him.
Correct:
1. This was the end; this was the end of it all.
2. Ten warriors stormed Vine’s palace; only two remain.
3. He couldn’t win; he couldn’t beat him.
This is most likely one of the most difficult punctuations to deal with. A semicolon is used in place of a comma to connect two otherwise completely separate sentences when you want form a single long one. If you put a comma in-between two complete sentences (in other words, two sentences that can stand on their own), it is called a comma splice. If you are uncomfortable using semicolons, you can instead use periods or a conjunction, such as “and,” “or,” “but.”
----------------------------------
D. Possessives and Contractions
----------------------------------
http://www.angryflower.com/bobsqu.gif
http://www.angryflower.com/plural.gif
http://www.angryflower.com/itsits.gif
Quote:Incorrect:
1. Your going to pay for that.
2. The demon wrapped it’s powerful arms around the fighter.
3. That sig was made by, your’s truly.
Correct:
1. You’re going to pay for that.
2. The demon wrapped its powerful arms around the fighter.
3. That sig was made by, yours truly.
People seem to have the most trouble with proper possessives and contractions (compound words). Placement of apostrophes and words with multiple uses can trip up even the best of writers. The first example uses the word “your” incorrectly. “Your” in that spelling is always possessive, meaning “your bag” or “your shoes” in the sense of belonging. What the sentence is trying to say is, “You are going to pay for that,” in which case a contraction, and not a possessive, is needed. “You’re” is the contraction for “you are.”
Common contractions are can’t (cannot), they’re (they are), you’re (you are), isn’t (is not), it’s (it is), that’s (that is), I’m (I am), I’ve (I have), must’ve (must have), and many, many more. Some writers use ain’t, but that’s not a proper word. Contrary to most usage, the word “it’s” is never possessive.
This is probably due to the fact that an apostrophe is commonly associated with a meaning of belonging, in the instance of “Goku’s” or “Burter’s.” That word is always a contraction meaning “it is.” The correct word in example two is “its,” which is like the masculine word “his” or the feminine “hers,” but is used when a direct gender assignment cannot be made. In the third example, there was the word “your’s.” Just because there is a ‘s’ at the end of the word doesn’t make it a possessive. It simply makes it a plural; there’s a difference. Putting an apostrophe after the ‘r’ would make it a contraction meaning “your is,” which is grammatically incorrect.
Quote:Quick Reference
Their = possessive; there = place, location; they’re = contraction, they are
Your = possessive; you’re = contraction, you are; yore = meaning “long time past”
It’s = contraction, it is; Its = possessive
--------------------------------
E. Commonly Confused Words
--------------------------------
Speech is a heckuvalot easier than actually writing words out. Most people write down words how they phonetically sound to them, even though several words sound the same but have very different meanings. That’s what’s known as a “homonym.” Some of them don’t sound the same, but are spelled similarly, and just have a different arrangement of letters. However, when these two excuses fail, it just means they really don’t know the right word to use.
Quote:THEN versus THAN
then (adv.) - 1. at that time, 2. next in time, space, or order; immediately afterward, 3. in addition; moreover
than (conj.) - used comparatively
EXAMPLE:
COMPARATIVELY:
“I’m simply better then you.” (incorrect)
should actually be…
“I’m simply better than you.” (correct)
TIME: Back then, things were simpler.
ORDER: We’re going to dinner, then a movie.
Quote:QUIET versus QUITE
quiet (adj.) - making little or no noise
quite (adv.) - 1. to the greatest extent; completely, 2. actually; really, 3. to a degree; rather
Quote:SWEET versus SWEAT
sweat (v) - to excrete perspiration through the pores in the skin; perspire
sweet (adj) - having the taste of sugar or a substance containing or resembling sugar, as honey or saccharin
Quote:EFFECT versus AFFECT
effect (n.) - 1. something brought about by a cause or agent; a result, 2. the power to produce an outcome or achieve a result; influence, 3. a scientific law, hypothesis, or phenomenon, 4. advantage; avail
affect (tr.v.) - 1. to have an influence on or effect a change in, 2. to act on the emotions of, 3. to attack or infect, as a disease
Quote:HAVE versus OF
have (v.) - 1. to use or exhibit in action, 2. to permit; allow 3. to carry on, perform, or execute
of (prep.) - 1. derived or coming from; 2. caused by; resulting from, 3. containing or carrying
(These two are commonly confused due to verbal slang, and many people write out things the way they sound to them. People slur the ?have? until it sounds completely like ?of.? This is one of the few errors grammar check will actually catch!)
EXAMPLE:
“You should of backed out when you had the chance.” (incorrect)
should actually be…
“You should have backed out when you had the chance.” (correct)
------------
F. Dialogue
------------
Dialogue can be either set up or finished off. Meaning, you can begin the sentence with dialogue or end it with dialogue.
Examples
A. Set Up
He said, “Get away from me.”
He screamed, “Get away from me!”
He asked, “Will you get away from me?”
(Make sure you put a comma before the opening quotation marks every time! And don’t forget the punctuation mark before the closing quotation marks!)
B. Finish off
“Get away from me,” he said.
“Get away from me!” he screamed.
“Will you get away from me?” he asked.
(Make sure you put some sort of punctuation mark before the closing quotation marks every time!)
Quote:Incorrect:
1. “You’ll never win, he said.”
2. “He said, you’ll never win.”
3. He used his so-called “special technique”.
4. What exactly is “good grammar?”
5. I would say “butchery”, but that would be mean.
Correct:
1. “You’ll never win,” he said.
2. He said, “You’ll never win.”
3. He used his so-called “special technique.”
4. What exactly is “good grammar”?
5. I would say “butchery,” but that would be mean.
Quotation marks surround the words being spoken or quoted, not the description. They open and close the sentence. That’s how you tell if someone is talking. Place opening quotation marks at the beginning of the dialogue. In the first example, the dialogue starts with an easy, fresh sentence. In the second example, dialogue starts in the middle of the sentence. In this case, you need a comma to separate the word indicating speech, and then begin the dialogue with opening quotation marks. Don’t forget to always capitalize the first word beginning a dialogue! Place the closing quotation marks after the punctuation that follows the last word being said or quoted. Unless it is being used with a question mark or exclamation point in a non-dialogue sentence, under no other circumstance is a quotation mark (whether used for dialogue, quoting, alleging, or making reference to something) to be on the inside of the ending punctuation or comma (e.g., the period, the comma, etcetera)! It may look weird, but it is correct. Again, Spellchecker will not call you on it, but it is not correct!
Quote:Incorrect:
4. “I’m going to be the most powerful fighter in the universe.” he said.
5. “I’m going to be the most powerful fighter in the universe.” He said.
6. “Is there any way I can become stronger,? he/she said.
Correct:
4. “I’m going to be the most powerful fighter in the universe,” he said.
5. “I’m going to be the most powerful fighter in the universe!” he said.
6. “Is there any way I can become stronger?” he asked.
Those are all a big no. Dialogue followed by something along the lines of ?he/she said? should never be ended with a period. Ever. Not even if the “he/she” is capitalized. Spellchecker says it’s okay, but it’s actually grammatically incorrect. End it with a comma, or if you want to set a louder tone, an exclamation point. If it is in question form, unless you split your sentence up (which is very tricky), always end it with a question mark. It is better if you used “asked” instead of “said” as well, but the latter is not technically wrong.
Quote:Incorrect:
7. “I'm going,” he said. “To be the strongest ever.”
8. “How can I,” he asked. “Become stronger?”
9. “I can do it,” he said, “I can become stronger!”
Correct:
7. “I’m going,” he said, “to be the strongest ever.”
8. “How can I,” he asked, “become stronger?”
9. “I can do it,” he said. “I can become stronger!”
Splitting dialogue up can be confusing to punctuate. It’s easiest to avoid this dicey method altogether, but if there is an instance you word your dialogue this way, it’s best to know how to do it right. You don’t place a period after your indication of speech (said, paused, whispered, began, etcetera) if the sentence is being continued, nor do you capitalize the next word within the dialogue. Imagine if there was no island of words in the middle of the dialogue. “I’m going. To be the strongest ever.” Unless you’re referring to a trip and not a goal, that would be okay, otherwise it’s not. “How can I. Become stronger?” That one’s even easier. A period after the indication of speech tells you that the first sentence of dialogue stands alone and is not connected with the following sentence. “I can do it. I can become stronger!” This example is perfect.
Quote:Tip: Don’t clump dialogue in the middle of your paragraphs. It makes it difficult to understand who is saying what in the middle of what action (see, confusing!). Whenever a new person starts talking or separate dialogue is spoken, you should always begin a new paragraph!
-------------------
G. General Format
-------------------
- Tense
Tense is the form of writing you are in with indication to time. While there are actually several kinds in two different categories (active and passive), we’ll generalize them into three types for simplicity’s sake: past tense, present tense, and future tense. Past tense is when you are referring to something that has already taken place, using words like “were,” “was,” and “had.” Present tense is when you are mentioning something that is occurring at that very moment, employing words such as “is,” “am,” “has,” and “have.” It doesn’t necessarily have to be dialogue or self-reference. Future tense is an allusion to something that will happen, using words similar to present tense (most namely “have”), although meaning them for an upcoming event, and it also includes “will.”
Quote:Examples
Past Tense:
1. I was once the greatest fighter in the world.
2. We were just training.
3. I had it all.
Present Tense:
1. Is this what it has come to?
2. I am going to kill you if you don’t get this right.
3. I have every intention of leaving.
Future Tense:
1. Will you come with me?
2. Within a year, I will have finished my training in RoSaT.
A big “no” in writing is changing tense in the middle of a sentence. It can be done, but most people don’t know how (it is usually in dialogue)...so just don’t do it.
Quote:Incorrect:
1. “Okay, it’s now time to train your body to fully withstand the effects of Kaio Ken,” said the Kai as he bandages up his monkey’s tail.
Correct:
1. “Okay, it’s now time to train your body to fully withstand the effects of Kaio Ken,” said the Kai as he bandaged up his monkey’s tail.
“Said” is in past tense, while “bandages” is in present tense. You just need to modify the word and correct it to the proper tense.
- Point of View
There are three points of view: first person, second person (or the “objective” point of view), and third person. We won’t ever encounter second, so mostly, we deal with first and third. First person is where the narrator/writer (you) are describing things from your character’s perspective, actually participating in the role-play, unless it’s dialogue. Third person is where the writer is not involved in the actual post, but merely illustrating things from a bird’s-eye view.
Quote:First Person
1. I slowly stand up and take a breath. (Present tense)
2. We all wore weighted clothing. (Past tense)
Third Person = Correct
1. Goku slowly got up and took a breath.
2. They were all wearing weighted clothing.
=======================
II. DESCRIPTION AND DETAILS
=======================
The spices to any post are your basic D & Ds: description and details! Nobody wants to read bland, boring sentences. A reader craves sagas that are interesting and appealing, something so good they can’t wait to devour the next post. It’s one of the joys of being at an RPG. Despite what you think, it’s not all that difficult to put some zest into your work.
-----------------------------------
A. Boring to Brilliant (at a glance)
-----------------------------------
Quote:Boring:
Goku raised his power level and shouted and fired a Kamehameha at Furiza his power level rising even higher!
Better:
The powerful saiyan Goku shouted as his energy skyrocketed, an aura appearing. He drew back his arms and fired a mighty Kamehameha at Furiza, all the while his power getting stronger and stronger.
Best:
A defiant roar boomed across the sky, tearing the very air with its deafening cacophony. Never before did an ear hearken the detonation of such a dogged bellow. A brawny pair of arms sank deeply at the waist of the extraordinary Goku, stalwart defender of the Earth. Bright azure flames of pure energy caressed his body with its effulgent luminescence as ki of cobalt and white amassed into his pining palms. The power he was emanating was incomparably catastrophic. Chanting the harbinger of Furiza’s doom, the vehement warrior unleashed his vengeful wrath upon the defenseless icer. A colossal, inescapable beam bore down upon the tyrant, sinisterly sizzling with malicious intent. Frozen in fear, Furiza could sense his enemy’s phenomenally increasing strength.
Although some of lesser caliber would consider the first sentence to be exciting and dramatic, it is in fact pure crap. Not only is it poorly punctuated, but it also is annoyingly redundant. It is a classic example that could almost be a constant excerpt from the majority of the joining posts that are half-assed. There is clearly very little thought or detail. The next one is better. It is at least acceptable to read. There is some attempt at being descriptive, with a few minute details. Instead of trying to cram all the information into one awkward sentence, there’re two, and together they still carry out the theme of the first example. The third is the best of the three, although it makes a bigger jump in quality than from the first to the second. One sentence has been turned into a small paragraph. Each action is explicitly defined, painting a visible and imaginative picture. Adding to the theme is the inclusion of emotion and a glimpse of character perception. While this certainly may not be even close to the best presentation of role-playing you will ever see, it is something you could aspire to.
----------
B. Tactics
----------
- Word Choice.
A vast resource, selection of words can make or break a post. They are the stirring stick of the imagination, so it is important how you use them. Description is a pictorial representation of an idea. Words are the colors that comprise the pictures, so use as many and as diversely as possible. Chubbs is a world where verbs (action words) dominate. Supplement these verbs by peppering your sentences with adjectives and (describing word; i.e., hideous, battered) adverbs (modifies a verb, noun or other adverb; i.e., quickly, boldly). Avoid mundane repetition. The simplest remedy for that problem is to get a thesaurus. There are numerous online sources, or you can use your Microsoft Word tool. Synonyms are your friends. Change up your sentences. Try not to overuse names or pronouns (substitutes for nouns; i.e., him, his, her, hers). Instead of always saying “Goku, Goku, Goku” try putting something like “the ebony-haired fighter” in its place. Whatever you do, make your sentences flow as smoothly as possible.
- Components.
Flex your fingers into a fist. It may seem like a simple function, but several things are happening all at once. Your brain is sending nerve impulses to move them. The skin on the back of your hand is being drawn thinner. Blood is being circulated through your fingertips. Much more can be attributed to that activity than just what it seems. The point is, articulate every miniscule detail of an action, exactly how you would imagine it, on several levels. Picture it in your mind and break it down into several different pieces. Now, use the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. For example, Dabura is launching a fireball from his mouth in the middle of Hell. What does each individual action he is taking look like? What does his environment look like, how does it smell, what are the sounds? Can he taste the fireball as it’s coming out? How would that feel if a giant ball of flame was spat from your mouth? If you thought that was enough material, you can add in his vantage point. What is he thinking? What emotions is he feeling? How is this attack affecting his body? Ask yourself these questions and then answer them in the best, most descriptive way you can.
- Literary Devices.
These are useful things that are designed to make a sentence stick out and really pop off the page. Some people actually use them without even knowing what they are, but they are better utilized when purposefully deployed. The basic ones are: similes, personification, metaphors, analogies, alliteration, and hyperboles. Similes, which are comparing two things using the words “like” or “as,” are the simplest to understand. Personification isn’t too hard either. It’s describing inanimate objects, such as a rock, with human-like traits. Metaphors are very common. They are symbols and figures of speech, such as the phrase “sea of troubles.” The troubles are not literally made of a sea, it’s just a word used to describe. Analogies, which are often in the form of a simile, are comparisons based on similarities. Alliteration, my favorite technique, uses several words together that start with the same sound, kind of like reverse rhyming. For example, the old tongue twister “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” It’s the “puh puh puh” sound that makes it alliteration. Lastly are hyperboles (hi-per-BUH-lee), which is just a fancy word for “exaggeration.” You use exaggeration for dramatic effect. These all might seem confusing, but are really handy once you get the hang of them. They become even more effective when combined!
--------------------
C. Show, Don’t Tell
--------------------
The “Show, Don’t Tell” rule is probably one of the most violated in all of writer-dom, and probably one of the most difficult to learn. I don’t know of anyone (professional or Chubbsian) who hasn’t at some point or another broken the token.
Quote:Telling
Goku was a young man with kind eyes and a strong, confident, heroic stance. All of his life, he was a fighter, and he was one of the best. His youthful face always had a smile on it. His hair was spiky and black. He always wore the same, classic outfit: an orange gi with a weighted blue undershirt. All of his life, he was a fighter, and he was one of the best. He loved his family: his wife Chi-Chi, and his two sons, Gohan and Goten. Even though Goku could be a gentle family man, he hated any evil-doer that tried to hurt them, because he was raised to be good and righteous as a little boy by his grandpa, Gohan. Anyone that threatened peace, Goku would fight.
That may be a little plain, but I need to be as clear as possible in the distinction of the two. Notice how it reads. It’s almost like a checklist, isn’t it? You can practically see the writer marking each item off in their head as they think: who he is, what he looks like, what he wears, what does he do, a little background, what motivates him and why. The writer thinks they’ve covered all the bases. Well, they’re right, except there’s one little problem: the reader is being completely indoctrinated! In other words, the reader is being drilled like a lecture. Plus, it’s kind of boring.
Quote:Showing
Goku moved with the prime of youth; the result of bodily rigors weren’t going to hurt him today, because he had plenty of years to come. His physical prowess demonstrated the keen aptitude of a superior fighter, but his eyes betrayed the kindness of a gentle soul that resided within. A gust of wind billowed by and ruffled the spikes of black hair that protruded from his head. Goku was nothing more than an orange blur in his everyday outfit as he trained, his body feeling the weight of the blue undershirt. A smile crossed his face, one that rarely ever left, as he thought of his the family he loved so much. Every punch, every kick was empowered by the memory of Chi-Chi, who had stood by him through thick and thin, and the pride that he felt for that of Gohan and Goten. Their very faces were as clear as day to him, even when he could not see them now. Deep down, his heart skipped a beat at the very thought of anything happening to them. He could never forget the values instilled in him by his former masters, and certainly not those of his grandpa. It was a rarity indeed if he could forgive those who trespassed against all he cared about.
Hopefully the distinction is clear. Each detail is explained by action, memory, and insinuation through either/or (with the hope the reader can see between the lines). They’re not blandly slapped onto the page and obvious as broad daylight. This may not be the best example of Show, Don’t Tell, but it should give you an idea of the notion!

==========
III. CONTENT
==========
What are the utmost desires of a reader? They want to be hooked. If a saga does not leave them asking for more, then it has not fulfilled its designated purpose. You have to be original, creative, inventive, realistic, imaginative, and just a little bit crazy. Role-playing is nothing without a character, and subsequently a character is nothing without a plot. Your content is complemented by your spelling, grammar, and description and details, but you need the meat before you can add the marinade.
Quote:Tip: If you have trouble putting your posts together, write your first draft out and then let it sit for a few hours, or even a few days. Then, come back and reread it, so you can get a fresh perspective on it and see what you like or don’t like.
-----------------
A. Plot Structure
-----------------
This is Composition 101, kids. The best kind of story is one that is well thought up. In order to convey your arrangement of ideas, you need to put them in a sequential order that most effectively presents the material. I’m talking a beginning, middle, and an end, people…come on! I know some beginners are so anxious to get to the “good stuff,” which is in the middle or end, that they completely skip the beginning and go straight to the middle, or worse, the end itself. Don’t rush it; these things take time! The beginning is the most important part, because it sets up the storyline and its characters! The introduction gets the ball rolling, so you need to give it a good push. Tell your readers what’s going on as best you can, because this is your hook and first impressions last a lifetime. A clever writer uses foreshadowing and allusion techniques, which is dropping subtle hints as to what is going to happen in the future without actually giving it away. The beginning is one of the best spots for this to take place, especially if the revelation doesn’t occur until the very end. Your juice is in the middle, where most of the conflict happens, which makes the ending a lot more enticing. Conflict or struggle is essential. You must have it! Conflict comes in all shapes and sizes; it’s not just about beating each other’s brains in. There are a multitude of types: mental, physical, relationships, challenges, trials, tribulations, surmounting, desire, denial, need…the possibilities are boundless. It is through conflict that the majority of your build up and plot-development lays. Finally, the ending of a saga is where the beginning and middle all come together in a climactic conclusion. A conclusion can either be a cliffhanger for the next saga, or it can bear the fruits of a character’s labor, whether it is by growth, acquisition, or a realization of something. Keep in mind that not all endings have to be happy ones.
--------------
B. Characters
--------------
- Be Original!
Characters are so moldable it’s scary…they’re like putty in your hands! They can be anything you want them to be! As with plot, your options are limitless. Since we are a crossover rpg, you have a lot of freedom to work with. Make someone interesting, and how you want them to be.
- Define Their Personality
Aside from that note, what make characters are their identifiable quirks. Quirks are things a character is known for, such as stupidity, bravery, friendliness, essentially any kind of dominant personality trait. Quirks must be real and relatable. Characters need to be real. They have so many different dimensions and emotions that it is so debilitating if they are single-minded and poorly defined. Give them a past. Develop them slowly over time. Cultivate relationships. Give them struggles. Ask yourself what their motivations are. Something that is far too garden variety is a warrior who wants to amass a bunch of power and “pwn everyone’s ass,” or someone with a hero complex and boldly runs around fending off those god-damned evildoers…worst of all, having a serious case of revenge. There’s nothing wrong with that, most stories revolve around good ole fashion vengeance, but there’s only so much you can accomplish with extreme ends of the scale. Instead of good and evil, go for the gray. Instill a little humanity and imperfection. Endow them with a mixed array of emotions and moral fibers. A reader should always be aware of how a character is realistically feeling. It helps them relate on a personal level, making your work more interesting to read. Deeply integrated personal flaws always defined Greek tragic heroes, for instance, and how they overcame those detriments…if they didn’t lead to a dramatic demise. A good writer can manipulate their readers into feeling whatever they want them to. If you want someone to feel sad, you spin a somber, morose tale of tragedy. Likewise, to make them feel happy, you plod along on a trail of sunshine and rainbows.
--------
C. Style
--------
Not a difficult concept, style is your personal spin on things. Some people appreciate serious, others like humor (especially the subtle, dirty kind), and still others prefer dramatic soap opera tragedy. Your style is the flavor of your writing, whether it’s passionate, sarcastic, bitter, or even a little arrogant. You can follow any of these tips and change them in a way that best fits your preferences. Writing itself is very loose outside of the mechanics aspect. If you have trouble coming up with ideas, there are several things you can do to get inspired: watch a pertinent movie or television show, listen to provoking music, read other posts, read different books, involve yourself in an activity, whatever it takes to motivate you. Take some risks and be original, don’t be predictable. Analyze your pieces and think of how you can alternate things to make them more interesting and appealing. Be spontaneous. Try new things. Don’t find yourself in a continual cycle. Style is your thing to control.

I would like to say thanks to anyone who has ever given advice, those especially know who you are. It helped me tremendously in compiling all of this. Because so many people have contributed, and come in and out of this RPG and changed their characters, I can no longer accurately give everyone credit, so I will simply say thank to all of those whom provided inspiration over the months it took to create this and the years I have been here.
Lastly, this guide is not perfect! There is something called Hartman’s Law of Prescriptivist Retaliation, which means, “Any statement about correct grammar, punctuation, or spelling, is bound to contain at least one error.”

Name: Gildarts Clive
Character Source: Fairy Tail (Anime)
(Hi this is Caira. Finally cashing in on my secondary account. Let’s see how I handle the excessive apostrophes, shall we?)
Character History: In episode 76, Gildarts makes his debut in the anime, he’s a hell of a guy and infamous within the guild. Gildarts is an S-Class wizard who has pursued an SS- class (100- year quest). Throughout the adventures that follow Natsu in the anime, there is a mystique that follows the powerful Gildarts. When he returns to the guild-his ‘home’ town that has reconstructed it’s geography due to Gildarts’ strength and basis of magic. As a man who frequently crashes through walls, at his early forties he is an elder to the guild and frequently looks after the younger generation when he is able.
The point where Gildarts is taken from the anime: just after he finds out Cana is his daughter in the Tenrou Island Arc. As the arc is concluded, they are attacked by the same dragon that stole his limbs. Acnologia. Gildarts, ever steady in the face of fear, he had the resolve to die and even stronger within him the conviction to live. Omni captures him in this instant. He is lead to believe that Fairy Tail is still in trouble from the moment he was taken and now he is a world away from the daughter he just found out he had and throughly believes that his guild’s ‘life’ is still in danger.
Physical Description: Swathed with a masculine physique, Gildarts is in his early forties and has a black/dark navy blue Fairy Tail insignia over his chest (which is covered by bandages). Gildarts wears a dark cloak and has two armor coated prosthetic limbs (arm and leg) as well as some wrapped bandages over his abdomen and shoulder. He has chestnut hair, which in daylight often comes off as an auburn color and stubble that outlines and emphasizes the edge of his jawline.
Personality: Adventurous and noble, Gildarts acts with great moral standing while in the manliest way to conduct himself: his decisions are all his own. He’s considered a womanizer, rather oblivious to his surroundings and rejects leadership as well as authority when bestowed upon him. He’s a casual guy who is very charismatic in his conducted ease.
Fighting Style:Gildarts uses a combination of Gravity, Crash, and Disassembly Magic.

Starting powers: N/A
Starting Moves:
Parry 300 OM (requires Physical Strength prof, Area Attack Prof.) non variable
This is a move to block a physical attack.
An oncoming foe launches himself at Gildarts and charges toward with their weapon raised, gaze maliciously infused with villainous intent as the strike is readied. Gildarts directs his focus to where the attack will hit him as his body lunges with a pivot to the side with a flicker of movement and his metallic arm goes up to block the attack and off balance it’s core. (A sword would grind against his arm and the aim would be deflected away from Gildarts torso.)
As Gildarts does this, a wave of energy is released at the opponent and they are projected backwards or forwards and past him (depending on where their momentum would have taken them) at least three feet.
The force hits them like a gale of gravity, as suddenly against the foe’s sword a wave of energy is felt before the wave hits the rest of the enemy’s body and sends him and his sword strike flying.
Gildarts can do this repeatedly, however each time he must sacrifice the immediate use of an offensive move. (Basically, the foe must attack him again before he can begin again with offensive moves. If this isn’t clear, here’s an example really quick.)
The foe’s sword grates against his metallic arm as Gildarts pivots on his foot and the foe is sent off his feet and collides into a nearby tree as the parry is struck. Gildarts grimaced but begin to look lighthearted as the foe gets back up and launches another attack at him. Gildarts, whom can either dodge the attack without the use of parry, or use a shield to block it. He is unable, however, to attack the person directly (this shall be incorporated mainly with ‘aim’)until their second deployed attack hits him or misses, or else if he does the move will miss and he will be unable to use parry for the rest of the ‘battle’.
The Drawback is that after parry he can’t attack (forfeits the right to aim at) the enemy physically or directly.
Clasp 300 OM (Requires Shield Prof, Physical Strength)
The second way that parry can be used (This time as a stronger defensive outlier), as the above covered a number of physical attacks such as fists or swords, this is more to be used as a shield against less tangible deflections.
Gildarts anticipates the streaming ball of energy as it is launched in his direction, swiftly he takes a breath, squares his gait and extends his stronger hand outward. Forming and creasing into the shredded air is an ‘invisible’ shield in the shape of a sphere around his being, becoming only tangible with his focus. He grates his teeth as he concentrates to strengthen the single area that is expected to undergo damage. The ball of glowing energy released from his foe ignites into the intercepted spinning shield he has formed and Gildarts expends some energy as the attack begins to dissipate and roll in glowing white streams around his spherical shield and the last traces of the dissipated energy trail and swirl in thin curling wisps around him.
While Gildarts is concentrating on one spot, he cannot undergo an attack of equal power in another direction beyond a few feet of diameter from this reinforced area.
EDIT: looks like I will need stealth for this one, so I'll just resubmit when I gain some more OM!
Detonate (an ‘invisible’ punch..)300 OM(offensive, requires physical strength, ranged prof.)
Gildarts concentrates his energy on his good arm and then condenses the energy to the edges of his knuckles. The charge up time for this takes about five seconds. Then he lands a punch. The effects of the punch seem to evaporate around the very force of its momentum, and a surprised foe wouldn’t even feel the physical impact... At least not right away.
Detonate is a move landed and then after a complete minute has passed the strength of effect will be felt.
Gildarts lands the punch and the foe continues to battle as though nothing had happened, probably thinking ‘this guy’s not so tough, didn’t even stop me in my tracks.. I didn’t even feel his punch, what was he throwing? AIR?’ meanwhile the impact saturates and charges on the enemy.
After a complete minute has passed, the planted attack on the foe finally takes effect. In the same area as where the punch landed, suddenly a massive force expands around the ‘imprinted’ area in a one foot diameter (the impression, which shows little trace of its existence on the person, is a small and nearly undetectable plant of energy that is invisible until activated, like gravity, and as it charges an enemy with keen eyes could spot it and feel it) and releases against the foe in an astonishingly dense display of energy.
The burning gravitational energy crashes with collision as the foe is launched off his feet, due to the unexpectedness of the sensation, (and because of location in the chest the wind was knocked from his lungs.) The foe feels like a train has steamrolled him as the condensed energy crushes into his ribs and causes him to collapse.
Drawbacks: When an enemy notices the impression of energy that remains, it is less effective and half of its power/impact is immediately lost and dissipates, that is why he uses it during beginning or middle parts of the action when a foe may not notice it as they are caught up in the dispute.
For an enemy to abolish the planted move from their person: As I said about the less effective point above, if a person notices the move it will be less effective. If a person realizes that the plant is there, like through insight or telepathy or just a hunch, they can pick up the energy and it will form a ball in their grasp, remove it and throw it away or back at Gildarts himself, at half the power because it was noticed. If the person has armor or a shield they like to use, they can discard the armor piece until the blow has landed on it.
Total used OM: 4,900 out of 5,000
I confirm I have read and agree to the rules of conduct Check

- Name: Desco
- Gender: Female
- Class: Rider
- Appearance: A small, young girl who looks to be Elementary Age. What is immediately noticeable about Desco is that she had otherworldly clothes on her. Alien looking looks that almost look as if they were a part of her body if not that you could tell the dress she had on was really a dress and not a mass of flesh her legs stuck out of. The purple dress and boots she has with the red gloves and red outline of a miniskirt underneath at the bottom of the dress match her small red horns on her forehead, purple hair, and red eyes. On top of this, she had yellow snake-like eyes all over her from the three down the front of her body to the four at the top of her boots, the one in her hair, and still another on both hands and shoulders. If she turned around you'd also see that most of her back was bare and the dress didn't actually reach all the way around her but left an opening from which the skirt could be seen and a small tail could be seen.
- Personality: Desco could be best described as a good little girl whose purpose in life just happens to be taking over all of Earth and becoming a Magnificant Final Boss for her Big Sister. She is generally naive and extremely loyal to her friends and she can show surprising moments of insight in her own twisted way of looking at things. Desco will do almost anything to prove her worth as a Final Boss and will happily commit the gravest of sins in the name of Evil to show how Evil she is. Despite this, she still comes off as and defaults to being a good person when she isn't focused on her evil nature. Despite her abilities and skills, Desco tends to be easy to manipulate when you understand her values.
- Parameters:
Strength: B
Endurance: A++
Agility: C
Magical Energy: A
Luck: E
- Class Skills:
Magic Resistance Rank A - While Desco has high Magic Resistance, it is notable that it is only Rank C for Wind element spells.
Riding Rank A - Desco was not known to have had any particular skill at riding so her riding skill is generally new to her. It is her Noble Phantasm which qualifies her as Rider which she uses as though it was a mount while at the same time an extension of her body.
- Personal Skills:
Battle Continuation Rank A - While Desco can be a bit of a coward at times, she all but ignores the injuries she takes in combat. A Final Boss fights with all of its ferocity until its dying breath.
Final Boss Setting Rank B - A natural talent manipulated into her body by her father in his experiments, Desco gains + in all attributes for each ally fighting beside her within 10 feet. to a maximum of ++. A sometimes difficult skill to use.
- Noble Phantasms:
Magnificent Final Boss Rank EX
Having proven her worth by taking over the world, defeating the armies and Avatar of God, Desco has gained the abilities she conceptualizes as essential attributes to a Final Boss. This Noble Phantasm shows this by the following two effects. First, it negates Magic which would alter Desco's Mind or has the effect of 'Instant Death' (That is not to say that it negates death but only attacks which would magically kill her without allowing her a chance to defend such as the Eyes of Death Perception or an attack that reverses cause and effect. In the second case, it would correct Cause and Effect but Desco would otherwise be harmed as normal), a Final Boss cannot be brought down so easily or manipulated against her will. Second, Non-Heros who engage her in combat cannot deal a killing blow to Desco or otherwise deal damage to her that ends in her death, only a Hero can defeat her.
Yogsothoth - Rank EX
The thing humans know Desco most for would be the tentacled creature that seems to sit behind her back. Those that know a little more about her know that her father specially coded this creature into her body and has always been an extension of herbody. He is the primary tool she uses to do everything. This Noble Phantasm takes almost no Prana to summon or banish at will and can come or go at an instant. Its Tentacles are capable of stretching out 20 feet in its normal mode and act as Rank C Anti-Unit NP attacks when they open their maws and bite down. As Rider, Desco has full access to all of her special abilities that use Yogsothoth directly. As long as Yogsothoth is close to her body, Desco is capable of flying through the air. However, because of this Noble Phantasm, Desco requires an extraordinary amount of Prana to maintain herself in the world whether she is actively using it or not.
Yogsothoth is also capable of instinctively defending her body from attacks she isn't even aware of. Desco herself cannot consciously see out of the yellow eyes all over her body but Yogsothoth uses them to quickly defend from incoming attacks. The main downside to Yogsothoth is that as an extension of her body, it is no more or less tough than any other part of Desco's body and damage to Yogsothoth is akin to damage of any other part of her body. Other than this instinct, Yogsothoth is not self-intelligent and will only act by itself in defense when not guided directly by Desco's will.
A Final Boss Arises - Rank C Anti-Army
Desco opens up the top two of Yogsothoth's tentacles and charges then releases two streams of magic, one Fire and Wind and the other Ice and Wind. This was the first of her genetically gifted skills she revealed when she was released from her prison in Hades.
True Godly Weapon - Rank B+ Anti-Fortress
Desco surrounds herself in blue magic and catapults herself into the sky. She then holds out her arms and moves Yogsothoth independently, transforming him into a Sword and then making him giant and finally dropping him down. Where he lands, a large explosion occurs strong enough to destroy structures in its way.
True Yogsothoth - Rank A++ Anti-Fortress
Desco merges with Yogsothoth into one body and grows into a huge monstrosity. In this temporary form she lashes out with her tentacles to grab onto her targets, then concentrates and lets loose a beam of destruction. Despite its power, this blast is only intended for localized destruction.

Character name: Gaara
Character source: Naruto
Character history:
Gaara was born as the third child and second son of the Fourth Kazekage of Sunagakure. Desiring a weapon to gain more power for the village, his father sealed the One-Tailed Bijuu "Shukaku" into his unborn son. With Gaara coming into the world he tragically took his mother's life in the process. With her dying breathe she gave him his name and thus began the lonely life of the Shukaku vessel... Growing up he was feared by the village he called home, unable to play with the children and scorned by the adults, even his siblings rejected him out of fear.
His only comfort was his mother's twin brother Yashamaru who taught him the meaning of love. However, fearing that his son would become a liability he ordered Yashamaru to assassinate Gaara which failed spectacularly due to his mother's will controlling the sand and protecting him. Yashamaru with his dying breath lied to Gaara before committing suicide via explosion tags- his last act in the world fueled by malicious intent broke the young boy's sanity.
From that day forward he made it his purpose in life to "love and exist only for himself". He became a bloodthirsty and unstable monster- killing others in order to "prove his existence". Several assassin attempts failed which only strengthened his hate for the world and the people in it. It would be when he and his siblings entered the Chunin Exams that his view on life changed for the better. After the defeat at the hands of Uzumaki Naruto and the invasion failing Gaara started to rethink about his choices, deciding to take Naruto's words to heart and learn to protect those precious to him. Eventually his efforts would prove fruitful as he would rise to the rank of Kazekage succeeding his father as the Fifth Kazekage of Suna.
Like Naruto he had gained his village's respect and love with the help of his siblings. After the timeskip Gaara fended off an attack from Deidara a crazy Missing Ninja who made bombs out of clay. He managed to protect his home but was defeated and had the Shukaku extracted out of him. Chiyo sacrificed her life to revive the deceased Kage (with a bit of help from Naruto's own Chakra) and Gaara returned to the land of the living. He would then help in the fourth shinobi war helping unite the villages in order to fight Madara and Obito. Before Madara could attack however, there was a bright flash of light that engulfed the battlefield before disappearing. Before anyone could understand what happened, Gaara was gone. He then became aware of a figure as it spoke to him before dropping him into the Omniverse....

Starting Proficiencies:
Ranged Proficiency – 1000 OM
Allows you to purchase moves which can attack from range. For example guns, bows and long-range beam attacks.
Remote Control Proficiency – 600 OM (requires Ranged Proficiency)
Allows you to create moves which can be manually controlled further than five feet from yourself, such as a shifting wall of sand or flying disks of energy that obey your commands. While Ranged Materialize Proficiency is not essential for such moves, they go great together.
Area Attack Proficiency – 600 OM
Allows you to create offensive moves with a wide area of effect, such an explosive that damages multiple enemies, or a beam wider than three feet in diameter. While the strength of wider attacks are diluted, or require more energy, they are very useful for dealing indiscriminate damage to a wider area and catching swift opponents.
Area Shield Proficiency – 400 OM
Allows you to create defensive moves wider than three feet in diameter, such as a shield that covers your entire person, an entire group of people, or wider still. Of course, the wider the effect, the more diluted the power, but such moves are nonetheless extremely handy.
Starting Powers:
--
Starting Moves:
Sand Shield – 300 OM
A simple technique which let's Gaara manipulate his sand to protect a single side of his body from harm. The sand quickly loosens itself from the gourd on Gaara's back, and it will naturally and actively protect the side of Gaara's body that is being attacked. The sand responds to shield him instantaneously. The shield is as big as it needs to be, but for this particular version, it will cover only the part of Gaara's body which is being targeted. If it's Gaara's entire body, it will form a dome or egg shape around him, but only if that's needed. The size always varies, as the technique responds in turn with the enemy's attack. The sand is sentient, it seems, seeming to move on it's own accord, though it is manipulated by Gaara's mind, bound to him by the infusion of the sand with his chakra and his mother's blood, instilling it with her love. The Shield of Sand serves no other purpose other than protection from incoming attacks.
Sand Bullet – 300 OM
A basic technique where Gaara uses his sand to shoot three medium sized "bullets" of sand at his target. The sand bullets are dense and collected to be compacted like actual bullets, though they're made of sand. He can fire a total of ten sand bullets per eight seconds. ( though he needs to cool down in between then before using this technique again).

Code: Toybox Girl tagged along with Caira. She continued to concentrate her processors on the Dataverse buy little information was coming from it. She had hit a wall in trying to tap into the information that was readily available and she didn't have access to any more private and secret areas to use.
"I have an idea Caira. We could use some more direct assistance in this endeavor." There was something she hadn't tried yet but it was well known on the Dataverse boards. Secondary characters were known to come from Summoning by Primes. She concentrated and held up her hands. What they needed was some support, a couple of bots that could explore freely and scout potential locations for their target. She needed guys that were fast and reliable, and she knew well that the Bee Tribe had made a pratical army of Cosmic Heroes for the Ark. They could come in great numbers and swarm their targets and their small size and agility made them great scounts. "I am going to summon some help from my universe. You can do it too, Primes are the source of Secondaries in this world and it relates to the names, Primes brought the Secondaries to the Omniverse." Toybox Girl shrugged. "I don't like the idea of getting more people stuck here in the Omniverse, but the Cosmic Ark is not short on bots. After all... It is only a matter of time before the Demon Force comes to invade this Universe as they have so many others." Two forms appeared and slowly materialized. Their signature black and yellow bodies solidified and shapes became whole. The summoning finished as Caira conversed with their potential informant. "Where am I?" "Where are we I think you mean, oh a Toybox Girl Model." "Did you warp us in here? We were just enjoying some time off from the Union Wars." Toybox Girl smiled. "I'm afraid so, I've brought you to a place called the Omniverse that isn't connected to the Ark. Connect with me, it'll be faster and we have a rush order."
Toybox Girl communicated with the two Beezle wirelessly exchanging information much faster than they could speaking to eachother. It was an efficent but impersonal way to communicate and only used when required. "We see, of course." "Man, I was hoping to see Crimrose in action today, but now we are going to be stuck here for a while no?" "We got it though." The two Beezle understood what they were here for. Cosmic Heroes always worked in teams and then with the Ark in unison. While Toybox Girl had Caira as a partner, she had no information base yet. That she had ended up here meant other Cosmic Heroes could have been forced here, and worse Demon Force members could be assembling their bases and factories right now to take over this set of connected world. That meant that any support deemed nessecary had to be brought in.
"Alright Ladies,
For Plotting with Caira! And I needed to put down my current post in progress which might sound a little odd since I started like halfway through the post since i had gotten some inspiration to summon allies. But I need it here so I can pick it back up on my phone and work some more on my lunch break.

I like to claim that I'm an open book. And I AM pretty unashamed with telling folks stuff. So, this is how it works. Ask me anything you can think of and I'll answer honestly.
Or don't and I won't.

Just a heads up if you haven't read Proto's threads (You need to!) there may be some spoiler here and there. So, read at your own risk. Alright, here we go!
The Scramble:
Such a monumental thread to be a part of with one of the most diverse group of players and I find myself enjoying your posts that have nothing to do with other players like the interaction with The Judge. Animosity right off the bat and with a pretty major site npc no less. Not that I would expect any less from you of course. I am excited to see if and how this progresses and where it takes us!
I also rather enjoyed the perspective you have with Proto here. You do a good job of making us believe he is little kid with a childs mind. For example his take on grownups and their social dynamics as well as the struggle of being shy and not having many friends when you’re growing up. Like with your example of watching ‘normal kids’ play sports and pick teams from afar. Good stuff!
The Shiny City:
Pretty sound motive for Protoman to choose Coruscant over Camelot. I find it funny that The Joker kept ‘splashing’ in your posts. It’s a shame he didn’t stick around. =(
I also like that Proto didn’t automatically ‘take’ to summoning items he needed and had the robot butler fetch the items for him. Btw, robot butler ftw! xD
Hope Rides Alone:
Proto man has to install the latest Omni patch. I <3 this idea. Very clever!
I like how you go into dreams and the difference between humans and androids. At first I thought Proto couldn’t dream and this made me a saaaad panda
But wait, second paragraph plot twist: Proto does dream! =O
Okay, so pretty much everybody except Megaman is here? xD Oh and the two doctors… but otherwise the whole cast? Lol
So, I am waaay excited to see this celebration parade. I feel like you are setting up for a nice arc and can’t wait to see further Judge Dred/Proto interaction.
Oh, I really enjoyed the ‘Proto has a break in’ scene. Seriously, your work is so good that if I am cooking food in the microwave while reading… I hit the space bar to pause it when I have to get my food. It’s that good! xD
With that said I know these things are s’pose to be constructive so, some food for thought:
I think I would have enjoyed this scene more if you had introduced the gang afterwards. For instance if you had waited to post everyone teleporting into your restroom and breaking out after we get the crime scene post instead, we all would have been guessing as to what happened? Why does it look like they broke out and not in? Who could it have been? What was their motive?
I feel it would have added more suspense and mystery for the reader if the order of these posts had been reversed. (Yay, now it’s not just all ass kissing! xD)
…
OH MY GOD BIG BROTHER!!!! F*CK THE EMPIRE AND THEIR INVASION OF PRIVACY!!!!
*Ahem*
Poor officer Joe. I really enjoyed that and didn't see it coming.
I feel like new people, or anyone who needs a better perspective on how to flesh out Coruscant and the Empire should read this thread. Good stuff, mang.
The Emperor’s Jubilee:
Staff Story ohhhh yeeeeaaaaah! *Fists bumps*
Wait, what? Imperial Space Marines? This is a thing? I love things! Look at this thing! I’m going to play this thing out! *Is Stoked*
I like how Protoman contemplated doing his super hero thing to get a better view of the parade but thought better of it because it’d look absurd. This is a real character grounded in rationality who… just happens to be also be a super powered android.
So, we find that the Empire is basically Corporate America of the future and Proto gets spiritual on us =O
I can tell that I am going to like Proto as much as any other character I have read of yours. Kudos ^_^
I liked the comparisons to the bible and hell that then turned into actual history lessons of the underverse. It’s well written, good job.
Proto Man Wrote:Samus shrugged her rounded shoulders. “I’m not su—”
Whatever statement she was about to make was cut off by the earthquake that struck from nowhere. Just as they had less than two minutes prior, the pair was jostled and lost their equilibrium. To make matters worse, the moment he hit the ground with a dull thud, Proto Man something crack apart as the earth continued to spasm. Looking to his left, he realized that the ground was fissuring, and the expanding crack was heading their way.
This paragraph troubled me for a long time, but now I think I got it as it was just a simple typo, but I think you meant:
To make matters worse, the moment he hit the ground with a dull thud, Protoman ‘felt’ something crack apart as the earth continued to spasm.
Without the word ‘felt’ in there I was stuck trying to read and comprehend it for like 2 whole minutes xD
Awe man, your enemy is someone who has hacked the dataverse… and you’re in the dataverse! Get ready for the first wave =O
Sound strategy focusing on one mount instead of all three; clever.
Well, Protoman just happened to find himself in the midst of a robot battle... Convenient, but it doesn’t diminish how pumped I am for it! Lol
Sometimes when we write battle scenes it’s hard to portray exactly what you have going in your head to the reader. This is a problem that is absolutely nonexistent in you work, for example the imagery here came without any effort on my part:
Proto Man Wrote:Kicking off the ground, his leap augmented by boosters built into his large boots, the Robot Master charged the Proto Buster and released the oversized burst at the nearest machine. While it looked stronger and more capable than the members of the first few waves, the humanoid machine’s alloy erupted all the same, as the plasma punched through its chest and exploded against the floor behind him. The kickback was enough to jostle the android midair, but it was nothing he hadn’t already calculated into his trajectory.
Flawless and quiet epic in my own head if I do say so myself.
YES! Sword battle! This is why Zero > Megaman.
It’s funny, I was just thinking that I hadn’t seen enough of the battle from your perspective and wa-la, you deliver. This battle adds drama as we don’t know if they can hold out long enough to get those bikes summoned; especially with the new threat in those tanks! Also, I liked the love hate he had for his opponent once the third wave dropped. With that said, I was looking forward to bikes… but, still, overall a good post here.
Saved by the library…
Proto Man Wrote:He knew what a library was from memory, and he’d seen a few in major cities as well. Unfortunately, he’d never been inside one himself, and given that he was in a digital world that was inside a futuristic city which was part of an alien multiverse, he figure he’d be lost either way.
Oh bother! Lol, you can taste the despair.
I dunno if I trust that AI Librarian. Mentioning the ‘Copper Eye’ right before throwing you into some holo-deck place =/ *Shakes fist angrily at the AI*
Proto Man Wrote:“I don’t believe that name fits the setting,” the android remarked as he shook hands with the boy, who was probably a year or two his senior.
^^This line made me chuckle.
This post is really cool. It reads like a dream sequence and before you know it we’re getting real intel. Also, I’m quite curious as to who J’hath’s teacher was, hmmmm?
Oh hey guys, don’t mind me I’m just going to have an epic pirate story right in the middle of your saga! I f*cking love it!! Because Omni.
And Pirates don’t have Proto Buster’s, ya weirdo. Geez, this guy with his Proto Buster… xD
Proto Man Wrote:The android had never actually seen such an antique firearm, but he imagined it had to share the same basic functionality of point, pull trigger, and pray.
^^This is well written. I can’t explain exactly why I like the segment so much, but I do. It’s just good.
Well, and here I thought that holo-deck adventure was just some random fun. I never thought it would come full circle and progress the story, right on. Guess I owe that Librarian an apology, haha.
...
Well damn, Proto’s pirate fun was actually essential to the story’s plot. I’ll be damned… I had no idea, kudos again…
Oh no… it’s all Proto’s fault…
Daaaaaamn, and we thought Proto had a problem with the judge before…
Okay, so that sums it up for now. I’ll surely get to the rest at some time or another. Great read as anyone would expect coming from you!

Character name: Marin Asagi
Character source: Brigadoon: Marin & Melan
Character history:
Note: I'm using the anime canon.
Marin Asagi is an energetic teenage girl, who lives in a lower-class neighborhood in Tokyo, Japan during the late 60s. Abandoned as a child, she was adopted by an elderly couple - Gen and Moto Asagi. The couple lived in a tenement house, along with others. Though not all of the residents are related, they all consider themselves one family.
Despite financial hardships, and bullying from her schoolmates, she tries to keep an optimistic outlook on life. She even works a paper route to earn her own money, using a strong work ethic, as well as a vivid imagination. She is friends with Moe Kisaragi, a girl who comes from a wealthy family. While the family doesn't approve of her hanging out with Marin, she remains loyal to Marin.
One day, Marin is lead by a green-cat like creature into a shrine, where a blue gem-like bottle is on display, like an idol of a God.
Later, when Marin learns during a ceremony she won a runner-up prize in an essay she wrote, a class pervert pulls up her skirt right before she goes to the podium. She of course is embarassed by this - but no sooner than that, a very bizziare planet appears in the sky. The planet seems to still let sunlight through, albiet more refracted and distorted.
After being mocked by her peers, she goes home, only to be attacked by a creature that dropped from the sky. The creature attempts to shoot lasers and organic rockets. She runs to her bike, and escapes briefly. She finds herself near the blue bottle. The creature finds her, so she throws the bottle on the pedistal. Only to reveal a blue bipedal creature - who identifies himself as Melan Blue. He has a sword and gun, and seems to be an organic robot like the creature chasing her. He says it's his duty to protect her.
Through a series of events, she reveals more about what's going on. She may be the target of a vicious attack campaign by someone on the mysterious planet - Brigadoon. This planet appears every 100 years in earth time - which is only one year in Brigadoon time. She seems to be vital to some sort of ritual which could restore balance, and propel the planets away from each other and avoid a time-space collision called the Mutual Collapse. Through these events she discovers other monomakia to help her and her family - and the planet - find out what's going on. Melan fights two other gun-swordsmen who seem to think he's a traitor for protecting Marin. Along the way, police want to imprison Marin. A family friend and upper-classman - Midori Mano, helps her break out of prison, and then the prime minister pardons her.
During this time, the US plans to reroute the Apollo 11 mission from the moon to Brigadoon. Event after event happens, all seem to be adding more to Marin's plate. People at school hate her even more, Moe's mother is even more unwilling to let her spend time with Marin, and several attacks at the World's Fair in Osaka end with her adoptive grandmother - Grandma Moto - passing away after being exhausted from the day of enjoyment turned to action. Marin blames herself, and she ends up trying to drown herself - but Melan rescues her, assures her she means alot to many people. After being attacked some more, , Marin is recruited by the US President to help.
While on Brigadoon, Marin gets cut off from the astronauts keeping her around. She finds out the planet is very different from Earth - the architecture is made of stone mazes, inverted pyramids, cones and seemingly impossible structures. She also finds out there is a third sattelite planet - a paradise-like planet called Submaton Color. There she meets the creature who lead her to Melan, who had been giving her random advice through the first half of the series. His name is Lolo, and he's a political figure on the planet Brigadoon. He finds her and tells her what she needs to do. She is the Creis Marine - a monomakia developed to helps solve the mutual collapse, and all this is an attack by a renegade politician who wants to destroy the planets, for some reason. By laying herself into the body-shaped keyhole, she can stop his plans. However, upon going into the Creis keyhole, the keyhole rejects her about half-way, and causes monomakia to attack. Melan and her fly to the planetoid of paradise - Submaton Color.
There she finds a creature who looks like Lolo, but much older. He gives her a red necklace with a red teardrop. She is then sent back to earth, and Melan goes to find the real Creis Marine.
She finds the planet is in disarray. Tokyo has been turned into a war-torn barren wasteland, with the school being turned into a makeshift shelter. She finds her tenament house is gone, and her family is missing. Now forbidden in the school after a fight that results in her head being injured, she is forced to live on the street. Midori - finds her stealing bread, and stops her. She gets Marin to realize this is not the way. However, due to the fight earlier, she goes blind while she is being cleaned up.
While Midori runs errands, Marin senses Melan is in danger, as he's fighting a monomakia that can snap him in two. She wanders off to find him, despite her being blind. The top school bully tricks her into dropping off a ledge, hanging on for dear life. Marin however is saved at the last moment by the red necklace not only compensating for her eyesight, but turns her into a Marin-sized semitruck, preventing her death. She can only drive the same speed as a semitruck, and cannot actually unload freight, but she uses her ability to turn into a police motorbike. The necklace given to her has saved her. She uses the shapeshifting ability to turn into a mouse [though still Marin's size and height], and get better climbing ability in the broken subways. She can copy abilities of things she can see at that moment.
She finds Melan, and rescues him by duplicating his outfit. She gains no ability, but it does confuse the monomakia constricting him into chasing her, giving Melan time to attack. Marin and Melan eventually find her family, and find out that the Creis Marine might be in an abandoned laboratory. Upon finding her, everyone but Marin is seemingly captured and taken to Brigadoon by an ambush.
Marin is called by Lolo and his friend Lala, who are both part of the Brigadoon Assembly to help them, as the renegade has successfully taken over Brigadoon in total. She imitates a missile being launched by a sub to fly to Brigadoon, but then falls into an ocean, and blacks out.
It's at this moment she gets brought to the Omniverse.
