Old Neal Returns
Posted by: Neal - 03-28-2015, 01:36 PM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (2)

Alright, I've decided I'd like to try and restart the original writing Neal hails from, but I haven't done anything with him since sixth grade, at least in his core design. I was inspired by a movie a friend had me watch and after playing this variation of Neal.

So, the idea is that a there's a sort of sickness going around. It's not contagious, so its method of spreading is unknown, however it is very lethal. A high percent of the people with this plague die, while the rest are left in a vegetative state. It also does not effect the mass population, further adding to the mysteriousness of the sickness. The think about it is that it doesn't effect the body, just the brain. Those who survive are still left in a coma, those who die basically do so by problems originating with the brain, often brought on far too fast; IE Tumors, ALS, hemorrhaging, clots, etc.

That's just the introduction. Neal is one of the first to wake up. Unlike many of the others, he had lived alone and somewhat off the grid, so he never made it to the hospital. He woke up six weeks later in his basement to find an eviction notice in his mail and talk on the news about a possible new pandemic. A day later, he's sitting in his living room and watching TV when he suddenly feels a presence approaching. And bam, another of the "Awakened" appears at his door, dripping wet even though the day was sunny, and begging for help.

The man says he felt this place would be safe and couldn't explain why, that something drew him here. Come to find out, the man had been unable to stop moving - or rather, teleporting - since he awoke. Neal can somehow sense the problem, though thorugh no normal means, and finds himself able to help.

Alright, so that's the introductory plot without spoilers. Here's some WITH spoilers, but they might be detrimental.
So those who survived in comas are called the "Awaken" when they wake up, or "Dreamers" when they're asleep. Awakened have what's called "Adaptive Psionics," though in the original they had simple psionic powers. In this variation, they can theoretically learn all aspects, but many find themselves self-limiting. Neal is, as in every variation of him, eager to break the limits and learn all he can. However, he's not the only one. Neal's base power is Intuition, which means he can understand the psionics of others. But there are problems.

A Dreamer gains power the longer he/she is "Dreaming" similar to the psionic ability gestating in the unconscious mind. Neal doesn't gain the level of power from those he copies abilities from, he simply gains an understanding of how they work. And those who Awaken later may find that their powers are less frightening than the aforementioned Teleporter, and more "useful."

And here's the big part. The Adaptive Psionic abilities create a "pool" in large numbers, meaning if you're around enough Awakened or Dreamers, you can effectively raise your joint power level. The dark side to this is that you can kill another Awakened and permanently gain an even greater boost in power. This extends to humans. If humans gather around an Awakened, the Awakened gains a boost. If an Awakened kills a human, he/she is permanently boosted, but not as much as killing another Awakened.
The original concept for Neal was not nearly as complex, but I'm reviving his epic with my greater grasp of grammar and spelling. :xd: However, I admit I borrowed and mixed a few concepts, I just want to ask if it sounds TOO much like one thing, and that if it does, are there any good suggestions on how to dilute the relation?

  Final Bossy Adventures
Posted by: Schwi Dola - 03-27-2015, 04:14 PM - Forum: The Tangled Green - Replies (2)

With three prinnies in two, Desco was on her own and wandered off into the forest. She wasn't sure what to do now. She wanted to get stronger, but she didn't know where to start. She was having fun with Guu and Nyes. The world was a big place and she was unfamiliar with its workings. This wasn't like Hades where she knew where to go and where all the prinnies were to practice her attacks on, and she didn't want to play with these three like that, their situation was different. They were probably already graduated from Hades and were hired out or just rogue agents. Desco wasn't interested so she didn't ask.

Desco looked at the stuffed and stitched penguins, "Come on prinnies, lets go back to the Nexus and find another gate to go through!" Prinny1 looked away from the group and into the forest. "Yea Dood, this place is kinda creepy anyway." He didn't like the dark jungles they traveled through here. The prinnies are only referred to as prinnies unless given nicknames so its hard to tell them apart without some kind of identifier, even if its numbers. Most demons wouldn't have bothered, except to appoint a head prinny. Which prinny that was often changing because he died. Prinny2 just sighed, "Sounds like a long walk Dood, why don't we just get a drink?" Repaying their sins was usually hard when they kept indulging in them."Where do you want to go Dood? What's wrong with this place?"

Desco shrugged, the real answer was that she felt the need to leave. She may not have showed it earlier but Nyes dying and Guu leaving had affected her and she wanted to distance herself from that. Sure, she knew that death was usually just a quick change before coming back to life. Here in the omniverse that was even more true since it didn't take someone with a heavy wallet to bring demons back but she didn't actually know that Primes came back a few days after they die here. "Desco wants new adventures and she's already been here!"

  A Dragon's Roar - Forbidden Memories
Posted by: Gildarts - 03-26-2015, 10:17 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

The racking hew of his grating teeth echoed in his ears as he was launched turbulently through the air and hurdled face-first into the placidly luminous floor. The crash and immediate sting of pain affirmed to him, at least, that this place was absolutely real. Suddenly his head jerked upward, as if so used to assessing the damage he had done. To his surprise even with his minor distraction and weightlessness, the impact of haunting carnage he seemed to expect and that had traced itself across his face, never appeared.

At first he was blowing a steamed breath of relief through his nose, then his posture grew to a mighty stance and he brought his fingertips to the grainy stubble on his chin. With a raised eyebrow and another glance cast over his shoulder, he was forced to realize that this was no where he had been before. With the unrecognizable terrain and the transitory march of a few white fellows in the distance, he had nothing else to assume but the worst.

Of course, this had happened to him before but usually it occurred in a significantly less urethral place, with more notable memorabilia dotting the horizon. Still, he had a fleeting feeling that Fairy Tail was suddenly worlds away.

The wizard of elite skill who wielded the ultimate magic. Gildarts, a man whence the sheer force of gravity had once creased in his footstep. Now, he stood in a motionless place that had no sun or sky.

His thoughts drifted into the clogged realm of what he had been doing exactly before his crash landing and recalled only the faceless visage that had introduced him to a new world. But what about Fiore? He stood in conjunction with fate despite his endless odysseys, continuous quests, and promises of honor upheld. For this man, today was finally the day he had reached his aphelion. Gildarts had no way of truly knowing how vast the distance had grown and how far away he was from his home. How could have ever guessed that his fate would never be the same?

Thick obstacles stumped his cognition. The wizard’s memories were a blur, spotty and muffled with a dragon’s deathly triumphant roar. In response to the shrill pitch of startling reminiscence, Gildarts felt his face tense, Fairy Tail! They’re all in trouble! Those kids- Acnologia... The beast had towered before him with its colossal gait and threatened to decimate the island with them all on it.

Gildarts shook his head trying to clear his thoughts. Suddenly he saw a sun-kissed face, Cana..? She had wanted to tell him something, brown eyes held concern in every part of her expression, her lips moved but the sound was hollow and then filled with the black dragon’s scathing, blistering roar...

As if by sheer memory of the beast’s thundering howl, Gildarts grasped his shoulder as an icy pain began to crawl into his muscles. The Prime gritted his teeth and allowed the sensation to pass with the whisper of screams that tore at his mind.

There was no one around, save the distant pair of faceless men in armor. While the unannounced location was certainly peculiar, not much attention had been wasted on the details of the room. Suspicion rose for a moment in his concentrated breath, in less than a blink he grew focused and ready for destruction; his eyes anchored on the ground in front of him. Release. After a still moment the tyro’s eyes swept the flat room. Nothing. Not even a tremble or acute shiver.

“There’s something... Not quite right,” his deep voice tore into the air with a familiar gristle and transcended the inaction of the room. The Prime narrowed his dark eyes and stroked his chin once again as his attention then moved down to his fist- a symbol of his power and ability to grasp his resolve- he now clenched his knuckles out of sheer curiosity.

The truth fell harder on his shoulders than the astringent pain. This was no test of strength. Nor a painless dream. No, this was something very... Different.

The metallic leg extended beneath him into something he was completely unfamiliar with: A light step. Yet this only furthered his inconclusive skepticism. Finding no results and no source to get them, he expressed a heavy sigh, “Ah well, I guess I’ll figure it out in the morning.” Though the sunless room had not given any distinction as for the time, he had assumed it was the evening due to the weight of fatigue that balanced on his shoulders. With the sustained ease of force that propelled his every momentous step and divided through the clinging shreds of air, his body swept through the breadth of the Nexus as the disease of his mind pinched and dragged in his lazed motivation.

His shadowed, calamitous eyes were intensified against the contrastingly bright light as they captured and absorbed the whiteness of the pristine room. There were a few directions, a few options for him to choose and he had the honor of deciding which to venture to. With the random incline of another step, he continued forward and time was measured only in the distance of his footfalls as they brought him closer to a doorway and further from the sound of running water.

The ragged cloak swept in his movements that were carried by the momentum of an equally established pace. The tall male with auburn hair fixed his eyes forward, without intention or focus on anything behind him. Doubt never glimpsed within his mind, nor a pondering thought trickled in from the unknown depths. No, Gildarts was never a man whom prioritized reaction over the simplicity of power that was exertion.

His pace slowed as he neared the portal, it towered over him with some height and formed a dome that impelled him into the indistinct unknown. The new world would take some getting used to, if he was destined to stay. But for now, he extended his silver arm through the wisp of white air that flowed in a stream downward. He felt the gust of a salted sea breeze from behind the phasing door of fog as the air seemed to tug enticingly against his skin. The Prime breathed in the invigorating air of adventure as it beckoned him in one swift notion, daring him to enter. And Gildarts, deeming it dangerous, had one thing on his mind. Without hesitation, he resolved to step in.

  Clones as Secondaries
Posted by: Neal - 03-26-2015, 06:22 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (9)

Question 1: Can I create a secondary that is bound to my prime via Hivemind? Such as a perpetual clone with 0 attributes no powers, or expendable minion creatures? Basically, I'd like to "be" multiple places at once, without BEING multiple places at once. This is something the original Neal did when I originally developed the concept for my personal writing.

Question 2: How detailed can telekinesis be? Is it based on TEC?

Question 3: Has anyone ever actually been Banished? And if so, is there a reason there are no posts in the Underverse?

  Hero Meets Unhappy Camper
Posted by: Neal - 03-26-2015, 05:24 PM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (18)

Camelot was absolutely amazing. The smell of the air alone had Neal's expectations rocketing through the roof. He'd honestly never smelled air so clean of pollutants in his twenty one years of life. Then again, never straying far from Atlanta, Georgia, that shouldn't be a surprise. Neal spent almost ten minutes just breathing in the air. The moment he had walked through the portal into this realm, his bike had been lost - converted back into OM. Sadly, that meant he had to go on foot or conjure something more complex for transportation. Despite his desire to explore, he decided to journey by foot. There was a road at the very least, leading from the Nexus portal to somewhere.

He had never learned to navigate by the sun, and even if he had he doubted this dimension would keep Earth coordination in mind when designing the solar orbit. Instead, he just follows the not-so-yellow brick-less road. One hand was stuffed into the pocket of his long overcoat while the other experiments with Focused Repulsion and Attraction. He'd pull on a bush, then push on it causing it to sway. He found it was easier to focus with hand gestures. Hand up, fingers curled as if clutching and pushing felt comfortable when repelling, while hand down, fingers curled as if to accept something felt more comfortable when attracting. He didn't need to use such tactics, but they held a particular appeal.

It was not long before darkness set in. He had almost hoped there would be no night in this new world - but alas. There was. Neal decided to veer off the road a short ways. He could still see the road through the trees, but seeing him would be slightly more difficult. To further practice his new-found skills, he exerts his Radial Repulsion to clear an area. Loose dirt, branches and other such loose objects are repelled from him, the epicenter of the force. The clearing he made was almost perfectly circular, with only a tree and a bush remaining in place. Campsite, check. Time for the camp. And he already had an idea brewing.

Neal had not been big on camping in practice, but in theory he was excellent at it. And that means that here, he would be equally excellent at it. Especially as a Telekinetic! He may have developed specialty moves, but he figured that as a telekinetic, he could still project his raw force. To test his theory, Neal drove his hand through the air and flicks it to the left. Echoing his motion, a chunk of dirt is dug up and flicked away. It didn't feel near as efficient, but it was one method to dig without a shovel.

Continuing his impractical mining of sorts, he drives his hands into the air, throwing clumps of dirt from a hole in the ground. Eventually, the hole would be a foot deep, three foot wide and seven foot tall, approximately. He looked it over and found it perfect for all intents and purposes. With the hole dug, all he'd need is bedding. His hands reach skyward, palms displayed to the darkening void of space. He exerts his will in the form of Focused Attraction, tugging at the canopy above. He did not need branches, not when he had such an efficient way to pull leaves right from the sky. They flutter like butterflies, almost perfectly displaying the cone-shape that his attraction took as it extended outward from his hands.

As his palms became too burdened by leaves to pull any more, he drops the loot into the hole. Kicking a few that missed the target in, he looked it over once again and felt comfortable with his creation. He hadn't filled the hole, but the bottom layer would be much more comfortable than before. Step two he did the old fashioned way. Walking around the boarder of his campsite, he took up sizable branches and drags them closer to the center. Some he'd toss back, others he'd keep, all working towards his singular goal. Just like on Youtube, he reminded himself now and again.

Returning with what he hoped to be ample amounts of branches, he sits in his hole, his bounty surrounding him. Branch by branch, he began weaving the twigs together, creating a near blanket-like structure. It was stiff, but it wasn't meant for comfort. As a final effort to disguise his campsite, he'd clutter the clearing back up, now that his hole was dug, with Radial Attraction. Just a few seconds were enough to have branches and stones almost falling into his bed. Finally, he lays the stiff wall of woven branches over his hole as he lays down. Bam. Cozy little bed. Oh yea, complete camouflage, bitches!

  Regarding usage of NPCs

This is likely covered somewhere already in the rules, buuut....

Is it still required we request to use an NPC in a non-person storyline, so long as it's a site canon and doesn't belong to anyone else?

  Wish Granted
Posted by: Neal - 03-25-2015, 10:17 PM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (1)

Floating. It felt like the darkness was a cloud. A big, dark, empty cloud of nothingness. Neal's eyes open, groggily looking around the area, but nothing appears to him. Nothing, at least, until he spies the grinning silhouette smiling back at him. It felt like a dream, so vivid yet all a blur. In his mind, he considered reaching out, but feared breaking the veil and waking up.

Quote:“My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

Rules? Neal thought. It was strange this "thing" found him interesting, but stranger still that he apparently pulled him into a strange new dimension. At first, Neal felt he was about to become the toy of a cosmic quasi-deity, forced to dance with the tug of his strings. His worries were washed away come this being's explanation ,along with a shimmering sphere of some sort of energy-matter.

Quote:“This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.

The orb sank into his skin before Neal could stop it. He shook his hands, trying to see if any residue would return to the surface. None did. Anything I desire? He considered the implications. He considered the similarities. This Omnilium felt familiar. The moment he thought about it, the moment he placed it - Omnilium was basically experience! More specifically, Omnilium was EXP, the metaphysical points that fueled a game character's power.

Quote:“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

That was incredibly dark. "For as long as you interest me..." Did that mean that as soon as Neal were to become boring, he'd lose the immortality this being seemed to place upon him? And how would he know? Even with these questions burning into his mind, the darkness fades - and along with it, Omni.

He was left there, in a realm of white, alone. There was just a single fountain, which he stares at for a long, hard moment. What now? Neal questions himself. Suddenly aware of a solid ground beneath him, he stood. He looks around once more and spots no one... so to sort things out, he turns and sits himself upon the edge of the fountain.

"Alright," he spoke aloud, to reassure himself. "Pros and Cons. Pro: I'm in a fantasy world with levels." That's a good one, he thought. "Con: I'm subject to the whim of an almighty being and in a dimension that is apparently governed by him..." Omniphysics? He had trouble getting over that one, especially considering his attachment to the physical laws of Earth. "Pro: I can level up... and apparently have powers... Con: I'm currently level one, and there are others. ... Pro: I don't have to go to work tomorrow... or ever..." And silence befalls his mind.

He slaps his knees as he rises to his feet. "I was already whims to an almighty being, I just called him boss. Level one is only temporary, and this is fucking awesome. Yup." He figured normal people would be freaking out at this point. Not him, though. Neal had practically prayed for such a cosmic interjection in his otherwise boring life. First thing's first. I need a power. Somehting small, something basic...

What was simple and basic, yet adaptable and multinational? A smirk curls the young man's lips. His hands rose to his head in praise to his genius brain. He'd had this argument so many times before. He doesn't even the notice his favorite hat dropping to the white floor as he brings his hands down from his crown to focus more around his temples. Telekinesis!

Immediately, he focused around the power, and all the things he'd need to go with it. At first, it felt like an energy was being pulled from his body, not unpleasant but strange as if he could actually feel the motion of omnilium. Maybe that was his imagination. The pain though, that was not so much imagined. It started as a heavy pulsating as if his brain were swelling within his skull. Then sharp pains jab at every angle. His scalp burns and his eyes ache.

Neal sinks to his knees, his hands going from directing the flow to simply cradling his skull. He gasps for breath, hoping the intake of oxygen would help the roaring in his cranium. Eventually, it did. The roar lessened slowly, leaving behind a numbness. There was no reason why it hurt. He had no explanation anymore, except that he had just attained the superhuman status he had always desired.

As his vision cleared, he spotted a drop of blood on the white ground. He almost immediately knew what it was from. Lifting his hand to his nose, he found a thick wetness. He checked his ears too, and then his eyes. Small trails of blood. Brain Hemorrhaging was often a common side effect of extensive psionic use. It replaced muscle damage for those overusing a super-physical stat. It meant that there would be limitations. Ergo the tidbit about needing more Omnilium.

It would be good to keep that in mind, but for now Neal wanted to try out his new found power. He rises to his feet slowly, his head swirling slightly from the change in position. That would pass soon enough, allowing Neal to peer around for a potential target. He then noted his hat upside down on the ground. Glancing down, he noted his long coat still in place. He must have been heading to or coming from a gathering of his nerdy friends when he was nabbed. Neal suddenly smirks. If only they could see me now.

Back on topic, he holds his hand out to the hat. Even though his power was telekinesis, he felt using his body would help focus... and with a twinge in the back of his mind, the hat drifted from the ground towards his hand rather quickly. He could feel he'd just spent Omnilium. To do the opposite, Neal held up his hand, letting the hat rest upside down in his palm. Another twinge, and the hat rises, tossed into the air without physical force.

Alright, focused is easy... time for another approach. Neal slid off his jacket and tossed it on the ground. His hat fell just a ways behind him, adding another target. This time he resisted using his hands. Instead, he simply focused on pushing all around him. After a moment, he heard the telltale skidding of his hat and coat across the ground. "Oh yea! Who's the man? I'm the man!" More Omnilium spent, but it was worth it. He focused again and in another loss of Omnilium, the items soon tap against his feet, pulled from both directions simultaniusly.

He noticed the pull didn't feel as strong and the items weren't as fast. He assumed the mechanics behind the Focused and Radial abilities were going to have downsides, just like anything in a game. A longsword is slow but stronger than a dagger, which is faster and usually more precise...

On another note, he felt that his pool of Omnilium was dangerously low. He had spent a great deal of his energy on the first day. He ran a hand through his long, brown hair and sighed. Deciding his expenditures would play well when he needed an upper hand, he decided not to fret over his compulsive spending. Instead, he bends over to pick up his pinstriped fedora and the knee-length duster and head on his way... It was time to explore, and he was ready to get out of this place. He felt like he'd go nuts from all that white.
