Character name: Enel. But you can call me God. :troll:

Character source: One Piece

Character history:

Immediately before Luffy's arrival to Skypiea in One Piece. He never met the Straw Hats, in other words.

Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF: 2
SPD: 4
TEC: 1

Starting Proficiencies:
Physical Strength (1000)

Starting Powers:
Foresight (1500), Master Acrobat (400), Basic Super Jumping (300)

Starting Moves:
Nonosama Bo (300)
A long, gold staff that Enel uses to bludgeon opponents he deems not worthy of killing with his electricity powers.

Writing example:

The world was white. The wasn’t wasn’t white, though, so that didn’t make any sense. Enel pondered on this as he picked his nose.

“WHAAAT!?” he suddenly bellowed, sitting abruptly upright. His neck snapped left and right, his dangling earlobes slapping his shoulders as he did so. He jumped to his feet and gazed at his surroundings. “This doesn’t make any seeense!” His peripherals landed on the fountain behind him and he turned. A thing of marble, water trickling down from eight descending layers. His eyes reached the top – there was a giant, ornate yellow lightning bolt sticking out of it. He thumbed his chin. “Classy.” The smirk lasted only a second before being replaced by a deep frown once more.

That Omni guy had some nerve, bringing him here. He was obviously some kind of hack, some illusionist who’d eaten a Devil Fruit and thought he was God all of a sudden. Enel snorted. The idiocy on these people. This Omni had no idea how much trouble he was in. He spoke aloud.

“Omni! I hope you’re pleased, because soon you’re gonna be in a world of pain! You think you can trap GOD in your little illusion? HAH! I’m going to break out of here, and when I do, you’re going to be in so much pain you’ll wish you never messed with GOD! ENEL!” He raised his palms up and laughed. “YAAHAHAHAHAHA!”

He waited. His lip curled.

“Hey! You dare ignore God?!”

He waited again. Nothing.

The god snarled. Oh, that was it. He wasn’t just going to kill Omni. He was going to keep him alive, torturing him electricity until he couldn’t feel anymore. Then he would starve him, watch him shrivel until his ribs poked through his chest. Then he’d cast him up in the sky on a giant golden cross as an example, before hooks tore him into a million bloody pieces. A mad grin was fixed on Enel’s face as he dwelt on the image. He’d wipe that grin off Omni’s face, that was for sure. He’d see him cry tears of blood!

For a time he paced back and forth, thinking of the many ways he’d torture Omni. Then he got bored. He sighed, sitting down with his legs crossed and his hands on his knees. A cold expression was on his features.

He had to think. This Omni’s power had to have some kind of weakness. Some way out. If he stayed calm, used his brain … he’d figure a way out.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

If you haven't figured it out by now, this is Omni/Samus making my alternate character.

  Wartortle
Posted by: Proto Man - 02-16-2014, 02:56 AM - Forum: Site NPCs - No Replies

Location/Role:

Wartortle is the leader of the guerrilla extremist organization, the Liberation Front. They have cells functioning in most verses, with more of a presence in cities and large towns. Wartortle himself can be found rarely, as he is often in the field, although someone who looks hard enough could find emissaries of the Liberation Front. Those who prove their worth to this radical, anarchist group may get to meet the leader who holds it all together.

Story:

Squirtle, raised from the dead, found himself embroiled in a war between rival factions of alchemists—the Atomic War. During the conflict, he ‘befriended’ a mage by the name of ‘Red Mage.’ He also adopted many traits that would become his trademarks—dual M16s, a cigar, and a genius tactical knowledge. The turtle wound up murdering the leaders of the rebel alchemists with the help of a naked Red Mage atop of giant, murderous reptile.

With the country back to peace, Squirtle returned southward, to Vermillion City. It was there that he set about his plan to emancipate his Pokémon brethren from their slavery at the hands of human beings. His explosive strikes against local law enforcement and Pokémon Centers brought him dozens of followers. It also brought him into a confrontation with Lieutenant Surge during a high-profile raid. Squirtle defeated Surge’s Raichu, and in the aftermath of the successful attack, he evolved in Wartortle.

Over the span of the next few weeks, Wartortle and the growing legions of the Pokémon Liberation Front launched several addition attacks that culminated in the destruction of the government center followed a city-wide raid. Wartortle fought Lieutenant Surge and killed the soldier while Kadabra and Machamp fought in the streets. In the end, the Pokémon Liberation Front captured the city, and it became the center of an expanding Pokémon state over the next few years.

It was then that Omni pulled Wartortle into the Omniverse, a confusing and startling realm of mysteries and wonders that the Pokémon hadn’t experienced in his native universe. This was over five years before the Scramble, an event marked by the largest influx of Primes in recent history. Without his support network of loyal followers, Wartortle was left to wander the verses. His prejudices and violent racism toward mankind often put him at odds with both the Empire and the Kingdom, who he simply saw as more institutions of suffering and slavery ruled by humans.

Wartortle eventually found his way to Cinnibar Island’s haven for refugees, but even here, amongst many of his own people, he was disgusted. Under the leadership of Mewtwo, his people seemed content to live in the middle of nowhere as they scrounged for scraps from more dominant powers. Through guile and his own innate charisma, Wartortle forged a new following that would eventually lead to a physical altercation between Mewtwo and himself that would end in a draw. The two Pokémon went their separate ways.

From a mobile base in the Vastly Deep, Wartortle forged a new Liberation Front that contained Pokémon, robots, monsters, and all sorts of the bizarre life that populated the verses (your garden variety humans are the only individuals unwelcome in the Liberation Front, especially if they are affiliated with the two main verses). They Liberation Front has cells operating in all of the verses, where they routinely perform small-scale operations against the Empire, the Kingdom, and their various affiliated powers. Wartortle himself, although he has a love of power, commonly performs front-line operations.

The Liberation Front, while a perpetual nuisance for the large powers, often ranks very low on their list of priorities. Wartortle, aware of this, is always planning larger and more dangerous operations, and despite the rather secretive nature of the organization, he (usually through representatives) is always looking to recruit new agents to help promote his anti-establishment agendas.

  Baron Victor von Magnus
Posted by: Proto Man - 02-16-2014, 01:31 AM - Forum: Kingdom NPCs - No Replies

Location/Role

Baron Victor can be found in Camelot, where he is a senior official in the Kingdom, although he can often be found out and about, ensuring stability and doing his part to keep things safe. He is a very approachable and friendly man, although he will tolerate no villains in the Kingdom. Many a would-be cur have been felled by his blade.

Appearance: A man of about fifty, ‘the Baron’ is a tall man with impossibly broad shoulders. Despite being an aristocrat, his body is heavily muscled, undoubtedly from his trademark weapon. He has a chiseled chin, high cheekbones, and eyes so blue they sparkle like the seven seas. Clean-shaven, his blonde hair hands down over his shoulders. If you’re still struggling to picture him, just think of an aryan viking version of Fabio Lanzoni.

Story:

Baron Victor von Magnus was a man of great renown in his home ‘verse. He was beloved by his serf for his kindness and unwavering sense of justice. In his youth, he traveled the world, honing his skill with a blade and learning the strong sense of morality that would guide him later in life. He fought monsters, he courted fair maidens, and he fought in several tournaments across the various baronies and counties of the Kingdom and its neighbors.

He returned home at the untimely death of his parents, and at the age of 22, he became one of the youngest barons in the kingdom. The young, handsome man took a wife, who bore him four healthy children, and with the passing of the throne to the king’s younger son, the baron found himself the favored advisor to a youthful monarch inspired to rule as an enlightened monarch.

His barony became the rival of his neighbors, who plotted to have him killed. Their plans, carefully plotted for over a year, failed spectacularly when a visit by the king forced them to stall. Members of the conspiracy, too eager and impatient after having waited all this time, went through with the plan anyway. They wound up poisoning the baron’s wife Annabelle, a saintly woman who had given her dowry to the peasants of the baron, of which many of the conspirators could claim to have been beneficiaries of her grace. In the end, they were rounded up in the ensuing storm. Rather than see them executed, the baron let them leave, for he wagered having to live with what they’d done would be a fate far worse than a swift execution. Most of the conspirators killed themselves in the streets within the hour.

Baron Victor crafted a new sword in the aftermath of his wife’s death, and unto it, he bestowed her name (he is aware of the irony). Three times the height of a man, the baron is capable of wielding it as if it were a blade five times smaller than it is. Despite its size, his strength and skill let him use the mighty blade even at smaller ranges, but in especially cramped quarters, he has other, more 'normal' sized weapons he can use to hack apart his foes.

After the death of his wife Annabelle, Baron Victor went on, although some say his smile seemed a little forced than it had in days of yore. The kingdom flourished, and the baron saw his children placed into beneficial marriages (albeit ones they themselves were comfortable with). It was somewhere around his 45th year that the Baron was pulled into the Omniverse. After a period of wandering, he gravitated to the kingdom, and most of his six and a half years in the Omniverse have been in the service of King Aragorn, who Baron Victor sees as an enlightened, caring, and noble monarch, despite the racial ties and poverty that afflict the realm.

The Baron is a visible figure, despite technically being 'unlanded' (he has no fiefs). He was the host/patron of the Camelot Colosseum that took place a year or so ago. His time since then has been dedicated to helping guide the development of Camelot and to take the stress off of his king.

  Proficiencies Update
Posted by: Omni - 02-13-2014, 04:52 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (9)

I'm giving this its own topic since it's pretty significant.

The idea behind the proficiencies system is that some characters tend to focus on particular types of moves. Whether it's ranged, or shielding, or whatever. It makes sense that if you make similar moves, it shouldn't cost you as much. I decided to just make general proficiencies which you buy once, then you can buy as many moves of that type as you want.

Currently, the proficiencies are:

Physical Strength - 1000
Ranged Proficiency - 1000
Damage Over Time Proficiency - 600
Wide Proficiency - 1000
Remote Control Proficiency - 1200
Lock-On Proficiency - 1200
Debilitate Proficiency - 1400

Starting today, the proficiencies will be as such:

Physical Strength (unchanged)
Ranged Proficiency (unchanged)

And introducing ....

Quote:Area Attack Proficiency – 600
Allows you to create offensive moves with a wide area of effect, such an explosive that damages multiple enemies, or a beam wider than three feet in diameter (making it easier to catch a speedy opponent). While the strength of wider attacks are diluted, or requires more energy, they are very useful for dealing indiscriminate damage to a wider area.

Area Shield Proficiency – 400
Allows you to create defensive moves with a wide area of effect, such as a shield that covers your entire person, an entire group of people, or wider still. Of course, the wider the effect, the more diluted the power, but such moves are nonetheless extremely handy.

Ranged Materialize Proficiency – 600 (requires Ranged Proficiency)
Allows you to create things further than five feet from yourself. This might be a pillar of fire than erupts underneath an opponent, or a shield that can appear around one of your allies. While such moves are generally more difficult to perform at range, their usefulness cannot be denied.

Remote Control Proficiency – 600 (requires Ranged Proficiency)
Allows you to create moves which can be manually controlled further than five feet from yourself, such as a shifting wall of sand or flying disks of energy that obey your commands. While Ranged Materialize Proficiency is not essential for such moves, they go great together.

Homing Proficiency– 600
Allows you to create moves which remove the element of aim, homing in on allies or enemies automatically. While such moves are generally more difficult to perform, often requiring greater energy expenditure, it allows the user greater flexibility in strategy, especially against tricky foes.

Buff Proficiency – 400
Allows you to create moves which provide beneficial effects to allies at cost to yourself (usually time and/or energy). While this might seem pointless, pooling one’s powers can be a very effective strategy, especially against overwhelming foes.

Debuff Proficiency – 1000
Allows you to create moves which have a lingering detrimental effect against opponents. For example, an ice beam which slows or freezes enemies, or a flashbang grenade that blinds and deafens your opponents.

Some of the differences are fairly obvious. For example, Wide Proficiency has been split cleanly into Offensive and Defensive components at 600 and 400, respectively. The rest require a little explanation.

Buff is the only new proficiency. It's now required for buff-type moves. This doesn't affect anybody since we don't have many support characters. It's cheap since it's quite situational.

Debuff encompasses the old DoT and Debilitate proficiencies. However! It only counts for moves which linger after their use, as described. Before now there's been a bit of iffyness about what comes under Debilitate and what is simply grabbing and holding an opponent. Anything which is a manually-controllable construct that simply grabs and holds now comes under Remote Control, and simply requires a move for said appendage/construct. Elasticity and Physical Shapeshifting moves may well need the Remote Control Proficiency if they do this. Anything else comes under Debuff.

Homing is much as it was before the previous proficiencies rejig. It allows you to home in on stuff.

Previously, moves which materialised, for example, magical bindings at ranged would have required Lock-On. Now they only require Ranged Materialise which also counts for any move that summons something at range, such as a fireball below an opponent (this is what you'll need, Shang). However they must still be 'aimed'. But they can be combined with homing to make it the old Lock-On functionality (the price, in that case, is identical).

There is one additional major change linked to this, which is that Telekinesis now requires both Ranged, Ranged Materialise and Remote Control Proficiencies. The price will be drastically reduced though, likely to the same price as a move. This is because there's essentially a lot of weirdness with the similarity between it and visible constructs that do essentially the same thing as Telekinesis with the aforementioned proficiencies.

Why ze change?

The idea behind these changes is to make it easier to just focus on buying the actual proficiency you need. A good obvious example is the new wide proficiencies - if you're never going to use a wide shield, you don't need Area Shield Proficiency, just buy the Attack component. With proficiencies being split up and much cheaper, it's less of a drag to save up and buy a new one for a new move - you can buy 'em piecemeal.

Nobody should be really negatively affected by this, and several characters will now actually have some freed-up OM. Ganon is going to update this for me. Essentially if you don't need a proficiency for your current moves (ex: you previously had Wide but so far have only purchased attack moves) we'll assume you don't want unneeded proficiency, and give you the OM back. If you want both proficiencies, all you then have to do is repurchase it.

If you feel this change does change how you would've purchased proficiencies (for example, if Ranged Materialize now seems to suit your move ideas more than Remote Control) make your case here and I'll be happy to make any changes for you. I'm actually one of the very few folks I believe is affected by this - Samus's Block Beam now requires Ranged Materialize, which would force me to buy the new proficiency. What I'll be doing is just removing the ranged aspect from the move so she materializes them in front of her, until I purchase the new proficiency. Hopefully everyone's happy with these new changes and if not, I'll do my best to accommodate any changes you want made.

These will not be updated instantly, as I'm currently in the midst of completely updating the rules pages to a new format. These new pages will have the new proficiencies included.

  A New Realm
Posted by: Shang Tsung - 02-12-2014, 08:48 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

Five hundred years of work.

All down in flames because of one infernal monk.

The sorcerer Shang Tsung knew he would face death when he returned to his master, Shao Kahn. The emperor of Outland had never been one to accept failure, especially on the verge of what would have been the completion of his greatest desire--the assimilation of Earthrealm.

On his way back to the portal from his island, Shang developed a scheme that he knew would work. Shao Kahn was a merciless beast, but he wasn’t a complete imbecile, otherwise he would have never spared the sorcerer half a millenium ago. He just needed to convince the emperor that he could get Raiden to agree to another tournament in Outworld...one where the sorcerer could more easily stack the odds in their favor.

With the plan coming together in his head, Shang’s confidence had returned with every step he took toward the portal. The aged sorcerer, his body bruised from his battle with Lui Kang, leaned on his sword as a crutch.

Yet, as he stepped through the portal toward what could have been his doom, he felt a sensation he had never felt while traveling between Outworld and Earthrealm. Normally, the transfer between the realms felt as if he was simply walking through a warm doorway. On this occasion, he was suddenly overcome by darkness and an almost suffocating pressure. The ground fell out from under him, and the old wizard felt himself falling.

A speeding hoverbike zipped passed the Nexus Fountain. The boy aboard only played a passing glance to the hellish black obelisk jutting up from the center of a pool of noxious, green-tinted liquid. Had he stopped, he may have noticed the unconscious form of an old sorcerer bobbing just beneath the surface.

Bubbles streamed to the surface of the tainted water, and another moment later, a water-logged Shang Tsung erupted up into the Omniverse. Never one to scream, the sorcerer sucked in fresh air as his cataracted eyes surveyed the white landscape that extended in all directions around his location. In the back of his mind, what he thought could have been a dream replayed in his mind. A tale about a realm of magic bound together by a strange, shimmering material.

As he surveyed the landscape and smelled the air, Shang knew he was in neither Earthrealm or Outworld. Behind the sorcerer, an obelisk of twisted black stone made him think of the hellish caverns beneath Shao Kahn’s fortress. “Where am I?” He wheezed, his breath still labored from the amount of fluid which had built up in his lungs during his unconsciousness. Trudging forward through the pool of water, Shang exited the knee-deep liquid and removed the heavy purple robe he wore over his black attire. Abandoning the water-drenched garment, the sorcerer made it a few yards before his strength left him.

“Damn this…” This was more than simply the effect of a humiliating defeat at the hands of some fortunate monk. Was this Kahn’s doing? Five hundred years ago, Shang Tsung had pledged his soul to the emperor of Outland, thus forsaking his ties to Earthrealm and granting him the strength to quash his foes. [i]Did you do this to me, Kahn?[i] The sorcerer shook his head after dwelling on the thought. Banishment wasn’t Kahn’s style… he favored bashing skulls or spearing people onto pikes.

With what strength he could muster from his battered body, Shang limped forward, unable to get very far without the sword to act as a walking staff.

“Are you okay?” The voice from up ahead caused Shang to lift up his head and squint his cataract-plagued eyes. A young man in chainmail on a horse was approaching him. “Did you just arrive at the fountain, Sir?”

“What?” Shang inquired, feeling enraged at how weak and hollow his voice sounded compared to just a few hours earlier.

“Is this your first time in the Nexus?”

“No,” Shang lied as he squinted and tried to get his eyes to focus on the horizon, where he could spot a few landmarks. “I come from there…” he added as he lifted an emaciated finger to point toward the southwest.

The knight glanced in the direction and frowned. “The Pale Moors, Sir? Are you from Darkshire?”

“From near there, yes,” Shang responded. “Could you please help me find my way back to my cottage? I don’t want my son and his wife to fret too much.”

The knight furrowed his brow as he mulled over the request. In the end, his code of morals mixed with Shang’s general appearance convinced him that there was nothing to fear in honoring the request. “Are you healthy enough to ride behind me on this horse?” He asked as he leapt down and moved to assist the old man.

“I’ll try,” Shang said, trying his hardest to conceal a venomous grin as the young man helped him to the animal. It took every ounce of the sorcerer’s self control not to rip out the knight’s throat and feast on his soul. Biding his time for now, Shang relaxed into the back portion of the saddle as the man redirected his horse toward the Pale Moors.
