Character name: Gouki a.k.a. Akuma
Character source: "Street Fighter" video game series
Character history: Gouki and his brother Gouken were Japanese martial artists, students of Goutetsu. Goutetsu taught them Ansatsuken, an assassination martial art, which incorporated elements of Karate, Judo, and Kempo. As the brothers progressed under Goutetsu's tutelage, a dispute arose on the true nature of their fighting style and the path to master it. Gouken, unable to accept Ansatsuken's violent nature left Goutetsu to begin his own dojo, which Goutetsu did not oppose. Gouki, however, continued Goutetsu's teachings, and vowed to use their fighting style as it was intended.
In order to further is mastery of the art, Gouki embraced the principle of Satsui no Hado. Satsui no Hado is a form of spiritual energy that is rooted in the darker aspects of natural human instinct (including the desire to survive, trample, and impose over opposition) and, on a metaphysical level, the natural occurrence and manifestation of loss, decline, and destruction. In doing so, he gave up any compassion he held towards other human beings, then left Goutetsu's guidance of enlightenment to train alone. Due to embracing the Satsui no Hado to its fullest extent, he developed superhuman strength but also a lust to fight to the death, unlike Goutetsu, who had been able to use the Satsui no Hado without giving in to its dark side.
After several years spent training alone, Gouki went back to Goutetsu, and fought him match to prove that he had surpassed him. Gouki won and killed his master in the process. Gouken also came to visit his former master to see how he was doing, only to find his lifeless body and his brother, now no longer human. Shocked to see that his younger brother took the life of their master, Gouken berated Gouki, who said nothing and left to resume training.
Years later, Gouki sought out Gouken, challenged him to a death match and lost. However, Gouken spared his life, refusing to give in to the same dark impulses that raged in his brother. A few more years later, Gouki challenged Gouken again and this time won. Believing he had killed Gouken and was the sole living master of Anatsuken, Gouki embarked on a neverending trip around the world, seeking out any warrior strong enough to to face him in a no holds barred death match.
Stats:
ATK:2
DEF:2
SPD:2
TEC:4
Starting Proficiencies:
- Physical Strength – 1000 OM: Gouki is a proficient hand-to-hand combatant strong enough to break rock with his bare hands.
- Ranged Proficiency – 1000 OM: Gouki can physically manifest his spiritual energy and fire energy projectiles from his hands.
Starting Powers:
- Super Jumping (Basic) – 300 OM: Gouki's legs and back are strong enough to allow him to jump up to ten metres high.
- Master Acrobat – 400 OM: Gouki martial training allows him to perform handstands, flips and cartwheels with ease, even while attacking or defending.
- Life Detect – 800 OM: Gouki can sense the energy signatures of any sentient being in the same verse he's in whether they're robotic, alien or undead in nature.
Starting Moves:
- Gouhadouken – 900 OM: an energy-based projectile born from Gouki's "chi" i.e. lifeforce. He focuses his energy into his palms for one second then thrusts them outwards towards his target, sending forth a scarlet ball of energy three feet in diameter speeding along a straight line. Once fired, the projectile moves independently at a speed of 50km/h. In its basic form the Gouhadoken is a non-explosive concussive blast that hits like a heavy punch. When charged, the Gouhadoken becomes a ball of fire that sets its target alight. Gouki can perform Gouhadoken while in mid-air and by aiming the blast groundwards, he can keep himself aloft for an extra second thanks to the 'kickback' of the projectile's launch.
- Tatsumaki Zankuukyaku – 300 OM: The "Hurricane Scythe Kick" was made to break through an enemy's defences, leaving them open to further attacks. Gouki jumps and, while in the air, quickly spins while delivering four powerful kicks to his intended target. The name of the move was inspired by the speed at which its practitioner rotates in mid-air. Each kick, though delivered quickly, is strong enough to knockdown a grown man and the accumulated damage of all four kicks battering down on an enemy is enough to overcome the tightest of guards.
- Goushoryuken – 300 OM: From a crouching or standing position, Gouki strikes the foe straight in the chest with a heavy uppercut whilst jumping skywards. This blow is designed to lift its victim off of its feet and project them to a distance equivalent to the height of Gouki's jump.
Writing example:
All was still on the rocky mountainside, save the large man lumbering up the steep climb. No wind blew; only the dull thud of the man's steps and the crunch of gravel underfoot broke the heavy silence. The sky was leaden with overcast and the Sun, hidden in its grey curtains, shed little light on the gloomy and barren landscape.
The man's skin was as grey as his surroundings but his thick mop of white hair stood out in stark contrast. He wore no more than a weathered leather vest, a fur trimmed loincloth and leather sandals with ankle high straps, leaving his huge, rippling muscles exposed. Strapped in leather over various parts of his body were several primitive looking bronze weapons: a large round shield resting on his broad back, a dagger on each thigh and a hand axe on his waist. In his right hand, he held a rugged maul by the handle just beneath its oblong head.
Slowly but surely, the warrior plodded up and onwards; his meaty arms swung like pendulums while his brawny legs rose and fell at the same slow and steady pace. As he trudged over slate and stone, the lone walker turned his head from side to side, occasionally casting weary glances over his shoulders. His heavy-set brow was furrowed in thought as his coal eyes darted here and there, searching his surroundings.
"Nothing but boulders and pebbles," he muttered between clenched teeth, "But I can't stop now, not until I've put this mountain between me and them."
Yet he stopped dead in his tracks and cocked an ear at the foreboding silence. Then his eyes narrowed to slits as he gripped his maul with both hands and raised it in an aggressive stance. Breathing in deeply, Stonash readied himself for the encounter.
I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

I've been keeping an eye out for potential candidates on staff member #4, and though I've already got a good idea of who the next staff member is going to be, I'd like to open up an interest check on those who feel they'd make good moderators, mostly for the future.
The ideal modder should be:
-Active. I'm not expecting you to give up your life, but being around the site a lot is obviously a good thing.
-Easy to get in touch with. I do a lot of communication through staff on the boards through PM and the staff forum, but usually if I wanna quickly speak to someone I just skype 'em. Facebook chat is another option, but I generally use skype (easy to put all the staff members in a chat room there as well).
-Know the rules inside out. This isn't necessarily something I expect overnight, but you should at least have read them all.
-Fearless. Not be afraid to tell a member they've broken a rule and they're gonna have to edit something out. Not be afraid to ask me when they're not sure about something. Not be afraid to tell me they don't like something I'm working on. I'm not saying be a dick - on the contrary! Being able to be firm without being a jerk about it is what I'm looking for.
-Further to this, not a jackass. Anyone that's been a staff member knows that sometimes it can be frustrating dealing with members. But always try and see things from the point of view of the other person.
-Be prepared for me to crush all your hopes and dreams. Without being a dick about it, being a staff member doesn't mean I'm going to necessarily take your creative input more seriously than anyone else's. I like hearing ideas from the entire memberbase, but there's a reason I put on my staff page "I've thrown away way more ideas than I've used". You get used to it. I like this method because it allows us to get stuff done.
-Biomechanical implants that allow them to know what to do and say in every situation.
Seriously though, as a final note I want to emphasize that perfection is not expected. We are not a professional body, I'm not paying you and you don't owe me shit. I want people to be staff because they genuinely want to be. This is why I emphasize all over the site "we are for fun". That extends to staff members. You don't have to put up with abuse from anyone. If someone angers you, feel free to say "I'm not dealing with this". We are members as well as staff, and although I expect some degree of professionalism when it comes to Official Business and obviously for you not to be a complete jackass ...
... What I'm saying is basically, don't stress yourself out. If I choose you as a staff member, it's because I thought you'd be good at it. Don't worry about proving yourself, trying to do all the updates as fast as possible etc, because you'll just burn yourself out, or even make mistakes. I'd much rather you take it easy, leave it to me or another staffer if you're not sure, and just sorta ... be cool. Give advice in an official capacity, make the new members feel welcome, and just generally be the kind of staffer you'd want the Omniverse to have. Y'know? That's not to say that anyone in staff is there to look pretty. Nobody likes crunching through the hard stuff, which is why we need everyone chipping in to make it an easy job
If you are interested, drop me a PM or reply here with a few of your reasons why. If you feel you're not ready for staffing right now but might be interested in the future, don't worry. This will not be the last time I recruit, though it might be a while.

I'm not sure I want to keep Abbot. He's cool, but I've kind of been jinxed with him. Had trouble writing solo, now I tried to join a thread and I killed it.
Any canon characters that people would like to see? I've got a lot of ideas that haven't gotten that far, one of which is Ouma Shu from Guilty Crown.

Harry didn't trust any vehicle he could summon, with his emotions running on the passionate side, and reaching for a winged mount like the one he'd had in Camelot had caused a violent bit of feedback, which made it a no-go. The wizard didn't want to waste any more time than he already had trying to figure out what he could summon, so he took the direct route; he ran.
Harry's no Olympic sprinter, but he's pretty fast. He practices running, and regularly. His long legs help. So does the Winter Knight's Mantle. He didn't tap into the full strength of the Winter inside him, but part of it was constantly present. It didn't do much, but what it did do was let him keep up a good pace for a nice, long while. The fountain loomed in the middle distance, quickly looming larger and larger. Today it was a large stone number, several stories high, as opposed to what it had been when he appeared there.
After several minutes of running, Harry's feet hit the cobblestones around the Fountain, and he slowed, catching his breath and reaching down into the fountain to scoop up a drink of water. It wasn't the most sanitary thing, but he was thirsty. He'd managed to get two handfuls into his mouth before the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, instincts screaming at him that someone else was there.
When Harry's instincts yelled like that, he listened. He whirled, blasting rod appearing from the depths of his duster as though by magic, staff held in his left hand, shield bracelet shaken out and at the ready. He faced nothing but the white expanse of the Nexus. He slowly pivoted, trying to get a fix on whoever else was close by. "Hell's bells, I don't have time for this."

Hello, everyone! Now that I've been officially accepted, I wanted to make this introduction thread where I could wax poetically about the "good old days".
I was Jackie Chun/Amadeus/Tamsin on Chubbs and Cooler on DBZ: Evolution. Most of you probably never even knew me, let alone remember me now. I was never particularly active nor a particularly good writer, so I was always on the sidelines. Nevertheless, I had plenty of fun during my days on Chubbs. Most of the staff was nice and very competent (Burter/Ander in particularly did an amazing job running Dante's Abyss 2009), though I never talked to them much, and I have fond memories of people such as Mal Nova, Vad, Kazuya, Sage and others who made my stay within the community quite pleasant.
To tell you the truth, I feel some degree of regret (though that's perhaps putting it a bit over-dramatically) over leaving the community back in 2010. Had I remained active, not only would I have become a better writer and further developed my character and her relationships, I also would have helped in keeping up the activity there. But alas, I lost my interest and motivation....and by the time I was thinking of making a return, the site had become very inactive. It's even worse now that the site suffers from serious database errors that completely prevents registered users from posting as well as viewing some of the material on it. Seriously, I'd gladly pay someone to fix that issue; while it's probably too late to salvage the community, at least the material on it could then be archived.
On a less depressing note, during a recent visit to the site, I saw the advertisement Omni posted there. Happy to hear of a place where former Chubbsians were gathering again, I decided to join and...well, here I am. We can't change the past, but we can work on making a better future. So I hope we'll have some good, fun times here, just like we did on Chubbs.

Since Omni posted up some of his older work that never received airtime, I figured I'd post this amusing gem I found while reorganizing my external hard-drive (yes, that's something I do).
This is from Dragon Ball Ascension, a website also made by our lovable overlord Omni. Omni was Koola before he changed (I believe to Trunks).
Anyway, I was amused reading this. It was posted 8 years ago this month.
----
Frieza had left his brother to contend with the silly, fruity earthlings in their little tournament. After all, the prince didn’t need some contest to tell him how superior he was to all the infidels that lived on this little rock. With a sigh, the changeling made his way down the cobblestone road toward what seemed to be a small town situated near a large river. A plethora of thatched huts and piles of hay abounded the scene as the Planet Cold royalty strode toward the center of the habitation.
“Who the hell are you?” The blatantly inbred voice garnered the attention of Frieza. The young prince turned his attention and sent a tiny beam of ki straight through the man’s thoracic cavity. With a dramatic shriek, the hick grasped at his ruined chest and collapsed into an inert heap. All the commotion stirred the remainder of the village’s residents from their shitty, little houses.
With a glint in his eye, the white-skinned transformer scurried forward and punched his fist through the skull of a small child. The scream that followed was that of the lad’s mother, but before she could finish her lamentations, Frieza tore off her arm leg and kicked her through the wall of her home. Turning around, the changeling was greeted by the sight of a rather diminutive population armed with pitchforks and torches.
“I’m surprised you disillusioned scum managed to arm yourselves so quickly,” the heavily sardonic comment escaped the purple lips of the changeling as he moved toward the group of peasants. “Unfortunately, I’m still going to murder all you with my bare hands to pass the time!” Wrapping up his train of thought, the transformer rushed forward, closed his fingers around the skull of the nearest human being, and squeezed.
Once he heard the pleasing sound of a skull collapsing, the warrior prince heaved the corpse into the advancing mass of people. Pressing the attack, Frieza disarmed the nearest man and used the oversized utensil to punch three fatal holes through the farmer’s midsection. Tearing the bloodied weapon from the depth’s of his latest victim’s thorax, the prince pivoted and drove the crude tool down through the skull of an advancing female.
Glancing over his shoulder, the changeling whipped his tail up and wrapped it around one of his victim’s legs. With a slight motion, Frieza tripped up his target, and after a slight spin, he gained enough of a window to punch clean through the peasant’s ribcage. The force of the impact sprayed some blood onto the transformer’s white-skinned face, but the sensation was a welcome one to say the least.
The younger of the Cold Brothers laughed as he unleashed a small barrage of rapid jabs and kicks at the remaining group of humans. In a matter of seconds, the remaining six or seven peasants were all lying in expanding pools of their own blood and entrails. Situated in the center of the lake of death and grim was Frieza—the triumphant changeling stood with an ensanguined smirk plastered across his smug visage.
Unfortunately, the victory didn’t bring Frieza any long-lasting glee. After all, he was still on some backwater rock after being exiled from his own world by two fuckers that were going to be really dead. With a final, halfhearted smile at the devastated, bloodied masses that circled him, the transformer strode through the ankle-deep pool of fluid and over to the large river. Frieza’s insatiable thirst for bloodshed beckoned him to resume, and who would he be to deny it?

Character name: Dark Link
Character source: The Legend of Zelda
Character history: Deep within the depths of Lake Hylia lies the Water Temple, a holy place where the water spirits are worshipped. Protected by the aquatic Zora for centuries, it was nevertheless one day occupied by Morpha, a giant amoeba created by the warlock Ganondorf. Its sheer presence cursed the Water Temple as well as the domain where the Zora lived, causing the latter to start freezing over. Wishing to save the Zora from Ganondorf's evil magic, the young hero Link descended into the depths of the lake in order to vanquish Morpha and break the curse.
The boy faced many enemies and perils within the sunken temple, but one of his greatest challenges came when he encountered an enchanted chamber. Unlike some of the other obstacles he dealt with, this was not the work of Ganondorf or his minion Morpha; the original builders of the structure cast a powerful spell inside it in order to protect the temple's treasures. But even this arcane trap was not immune to the influence of the vile curse that was emanating from the warlock's creature; the exposure to it had twisted the spell, making it even stronger and deadlier.
As Link entered the chamber, the trap was sprung and the long dormant powers were set into motion. After attempting to use the other entrance, the boy wanted to explore other options when a shadowy figure with a shape identical to his appeared in the middle of the room. When he approached it, the figure attacked him and a long and intense battle ensued. It was a difficult encounter for the hero as the doppelgänger responded perfectly to his every move. Worse still, as time passed on, the spell managed to copy more and more of Link's knowledge, memories and instincts and transfer them to his dark counterpart. This helped give the figure an increasingly solid form and also made it increasingly agressive.
But due to the shadow magic it was mixed with, the spell also managed to do something that not even the original casters were able to anticipate. In the transfer
process, the spell somehow managed to extract a very small part of Link's soul, his life essence, and integrate it into the copy. For the briefest of moments, the
figure wasn't just a mirror image, but a consciousness....a life. But this came to an end when Link finally managed to overcome his foe. When he dealt his proverbial shadow the killing blow, the spell was broken and the way ahead made clear. That was the end of it.....That should have been the end of it.
However, the entire ordeal was observed by an omnipotent being, which noticed this accidental creation. For reasons unknown, rather than letting it diseperse
into nothingness, it transported the entire mixture of arcane and spiritual powers into his domain. There, it over time reformed back into the shadowy figure it was before. Its exposure to Omnilium even helped it become an actual being with a body and a very human-like appearance that was similar to Link's. But while its physical characteristics were enhanced, the reforming process within the Nexus affected its mental capacities in unusual ways. Not only did this "dark" Link have no recollection of the battle in which he came to be, he also could not speak and various images and sounds would appear in his head, some containing very different and even conflicting information.
The all powerful being presented itself as Omni and welcomed the new arrival the same way he welcomed anyone else. But this new Link was like a newborn child, He knew nothing of who or what he was, where he was, what was going on...and what those images and sounds that randomly appeared in his head were.

- Dark Master Sword (300 OM, requires Physical Strength) - While lacking the divine powers of the original, this long one-handed sword is nevertheless as sharp and sturdy as the weapon it imitates.
-- Spin Attack (300 OM, requires Physical Strength and Area Attack Proficiency) - A special sword technique. By focusing his strength within his sword hand for a few seconds, the user can unleash a powerful strike that hits everything around him within sword's reach.
- Hylian Shield (300 OM, requires Physical Strength) - A darker coloured version of the shield carried by the Knights of Hyrule. It protects the bearer from physical and magical attacks alike.
- Fairy Bow (300 OM, requires Ranged Proficiency) - A bow and arrow set.
- Hookshot (300 OM, requires Ranged Proficiency) - A special contraption with which a user can fire a hook into the distance. The handle is strong enough that, if the hook manages to latch onto something, the user can pull himself to that location.

I haven't written my writing example yet, but I wanted to at least post the rest of it to first see if the application is acceptable.
