Quote:Continued from Claraina Arrives (Open).
It was pitch black. The only audible noises were the crunch of feet on gravel and Erza's body, slowly pitching back and forth in the darkness, colliding with the walls of her prison. She opened her eyes. Nope, still nothing. Whoever had put her here, whoever had snuck up on her in her addled state and trapped her in this bothersome box, had certainly done a good job making said box. No idle voices traversed its thick walls, and her cries for help had, so far, gone completely ignored. There had to be an air hole, somewhere, because she was still alive after all this time. But it was small, and Erza couldn't retain consciousness for more than a few minutes at a time before passing out again for who knew how long. Each time was the same futile cycle - Wake up, verify the blackness, verify that nobody was coming to help, verify that her limbs were bound tightly enough so as not to let her get at her Dataverse unit for a light source, or requip into anything useful. Verify that she was stark naked, and didn't have her dataverse unit on her anymore anyway. Realize some pervert must have undressed her in the middle of the nexus, for all to see, for this to come about. Faint again.
That same pervert that had been carrying her, sloshing her back and forth in this box for so long now. What had it been? Hours? Days? Weeks? Erza had no way to tell, for sure. There seemed to be some sort of waste removal system in place, but Erza knew now how it functioned and the stench of human excrement was still overwhelming. Perhaps that was what was keeping her awake longer each time - a sort of natural smelling salts. But ultimately, not worth the sensation of utter defilement.
She had spent quite a while in this box - Longer, she imagined, than in the rest of the Omniverse combined, or at least it felt that way - but there was still no end in sight. Not once had she seem the dimmest light, or heard the slightest peep of a human voice. Not once had the box stopped moving, onward and outward. She imagined her "travel party," as it were, must have been quite small, moving slowly and making sure not to damage the box. It was certainly an unpleasant way to travel; Erza would have much preferred to simply take the magic-powered carriage. More fun, less passing out amidst the sickly sweet, honeyed and perpetually staling scent of human piss.
She'd tried, on a few occasions, to simply focus all of her magic power on pushing the walls of the box away at all angles and bursting out upon her kidnappers. It never worked, and in retrospect, that was probably a good thing; She'd have been out of stamina to actually fight with.
Damn. Damn, what did I do to deserve this?
She began to focus her attention on those few parts of her body she could move - Her fingers, ankles, neck and abdomen. The smooth, polished granite texture of the box's floor was as well-ingrained in her mind by now as it was into her skin. She organized her movement with the swaying of the box, letting herself be pushed a bit to the side before pushing herself even further. It seemed her only recourse was to find that air hole and dig through it. She twisted, yanking her whole body as far left as the constraints would allow, feeling with every finger, every toe and every inch of her lower back for any existing instance of roughness.
And, in the darkness, it appeared. Right in the corner, on the floor by her right foot, there was a tiny, tiny scratch in the otherwise perfect walls. A sharp breath pierced her lungs, a short moment of invigoration before she gagged, coughing up what little somehow remained in her stomach. It sat there, half covering her lips and half still in her mouth, as she dry heaved for a moment longer.
Regaining what remained of her composure, she spit what she could out into the box to the side of her head. It would slosh with the box, too, and eventually she'd be laying in it, and it would quickly become caked in her hair, and THAT was unlikely to be detected by that ineffective waste removal system.
Better get to work on that crack, then, or I'll REALLY give up...
She waited for another leftwards turn of the box, then swept left herself, using her sweaty skin to stick to the floor in the only convolution of her body that would allow her pinkie toenail access to that minuscule imperfection. And, with a newfound determination, she breathed as slowly as she could make herself, scratching at the crack with the sharpest thing she had at the moment, before inevitable passing out again.
Waking again, she immediately twisted into position and began picking at the box again. Her nail was encroaching on becoming a useless stub, and the vomit was encroaching on her face. But, it would have to do; There really was no other way out.
She continued to scratch, and the box continued to sway.

Hideaki Yajima in Quick Questions II Wrote:A while ago I was asking a question about defending, and Adam told me that blocking attacks depended on both SPD & TEC, but mainly TEC.
I've been wondering, though, how exactly does that work? Because on the Stats page it says that someone with 5 TEC can 'reliably block most attacks from an unskilled fighter' which presumably means someone with a TEC of 1 ('neither terrible nor particularly skilled') or 0 ('really bad at fighting'). But does that only apply when their speed is equal? What if the unskilled fighter in question had 5 SPD and the person blocking had 0? Would they still be able to block most of the strikes despite being so much slower?
And would someone with 2 SPD and 3 TEC be better at landing their attacks than someone with 0 SPD and 4 TEC? In other words: does 2 SPD equal 1 TEC when it comes to bypassing defences? Or would you need more? Or less? Is it just a 1:1 ratio?
Because the way it's explained on the stats page makes it seem like TEC alone is responsible for moves, and SPD only matters when it comes to actual movement ... yet SPD also affects things like teleportation and form changing, which obviously implies otherwise. I'm just trying to work out how big an issue it would be to have sub-par SPD (or to fight someone with really high SPD, like Teal or Rin)?
TEC in this instance refers to the ability to block in such a way that the damage is mitigated/minimized. SPD refers to how fast one can raise said defense (reaction time and actually being able to lift an arm or something) or dodge. DEF would be the resilience of the shield/armor/general toughness of whatever might taking the hit. Strength is obviously how much damage is coming at the defender.
If an opponent is quite skilled but very slow, they may be able to guard effectively if given enough time, but against a faster foe they would have a harder time getting their guard ready in time to avoid damage. Think of a slow, burly warrior raising a shield. Very likely to block efficiently, but slow to do so. If it were the other way around, they may be able to throw up a defense but not be able to take the hit very well. In this instance think of a green cadet raising a sword with an improper grip or a shield without bracing it. Yes, the defense is there, but it's not effective. With equal speeds the person with the higher TEC would be be more 'efficient' with their weapon and thus do/prevent a bit more damage. Likewise, equal TEC would balance out in a clash but if one can land a hit before the block is 'completely' up. there will be an advantage on the speedier side.
So the best answer to this is that stats work in tandem. You can't really equate 2 TEC to 1 SPD or anything because being better does not necessarily mean you will be faster (and vice versa). When fights come down to a difference of a stat point or two, expect that you you'll probably not be able to completely avoid damage with a higher TEC/SPD, it'll likely be a glancing blow or something similar. It all does in the end come down to how you want to write it, though. It really comes down to common sense. If one party is more fatigued or the other has a faster move, things can vary.
This thread also answered the question.

Character name: Zalgo
Character source: Internet culture/mythology
Character history:
Zalgo is a being that could best be described as a "horror," a creature of utmost terror. He is known as "He Who Waits Behind the Wall" and the "Nezperdian Hivemind" in some circles. In this encarnation, he is akin to an eldritch abomination, some kind of psychopathic, hearthless beast with ambiguous intent.
This "Zalgo" came from his own "verse", as a parallel world to modern day internet, he slowly grew and became born alongside the internet meme. As the meme became popular and more widespread, so did his influence and power over his own "verse", eventually becoming the beast that he is today. Zalgo, as the being that he is, is quite detatched from the concepts of "personality", "intent", "purpose", etc. He just is, like a force of nature, designed to instill fear and ultimately, death to those that cross him. For no reason at all - Zalgo is ultimately vain and nihilistic. Things are just ruined and killed in his presence.
Suddenly, for some reason, this monster was pulled out of his "internet" verse, and cast to the Nexus. Not like "it" cared too much. It can't care. It just creeps. And destroys.
Physical Description: Extremely variable (amorphous shapeshifter), though most commonly associated with empty eye sockets and s̴̡̗͍̘̪̪̠̠̮͇̭̙͇͎̥͎͜ͅͅc̨͏̣̱̗r̸̸̶̛̻̟͔̞͚ͅa̴̶͈̭̺̯̪̤̱̬̤͚m̸̴̵̮͈̠̥̪̞͖͈͔̺b̡̨̳̙̫̞̤͓̣̭̳̦͍̭͍̗͈͕̞͝ĺ̩̱̪̖̳͙̞̞̭͈̼̠͙͔̀͞ͅȩ̧̯̼̤̱̞̫͔̀͘͞d̨̧̯̳̥̬͕̲̬̳̕͠ ̢̨̖͚͎̮̰̕ͅt̡̮̞̟̻̠̠͈̗̦̖̪͚̪̜̝̥͞ͅe̴͟͝҉͏̪͚̮̮x̶̷͟҉͙͙̘̺͍̹̰͉̳͚̝̬̞ţ̴̧̩̞̙̦̣̘̮͎̣̺̥̰̤͇͘͟.

Demetri blinked, struggling to keep the grains sand out as the armored guards lifted him from under his arms. Pain shot through his body, the sand worsening his wounds as they stung, like daggers being twisted into his body. The thief stared out at the locals and his feet in front of him. His blood soaked leather boots parted the sand into elongated mounds, the blurred image of curious onlookers behind them.
A lone child squinted his eyes at the beaten man as he shielded his eyes from the dusty wind. After a tilt of his head, the small boy rushed to his father, the child's soft and short blonde hair flowing ever so slightly with the breeze, his tan skin shining in the bright sun like honey. His dry lips parted as he pointed to the guards and the thief, his voice joining the whispers and murmurs around him, become one unified tone to Demetri's ears. The father hushed the child, quickly ushering his son inside his home, giving hardly effort as he stared back with his own curiosity.
Demetri's grin never left his face. The thief was crippled and beaten, but not wholly defeated. Surely his defiance and distraction had given enough time for the furry little creature and his own secondary to escape the city. As long his client made it out, his mission was a success. On the other hand, he was now at the mercy of his recent enemies, and he still had his mission from Headmaster Nealaphh. Surprisingly, this did not phase the clever thief. Oh, how many times he had been dragged off just like this back home. The whole scene really helped him feel like he could fit in among all this chaos created by "the smiling one"; as if he would be able to make a name for himself.
The thief suddenly erupted in laughter. The guards raised their eyebrows, not at the act of laughing, no, they had dealt with plenty of crazy beggars before. This man was not giving a maniacal laugh, nor a menacing one. This was a pure laugh, one of comfort and innocence, like a child seeing an older sibling making a funny face, or like a giggle from someone who heard a clever joke. Was this man enjoying this? As if he was simply playing a game and chuckled at his own defeat? The guards shrugged it off before passing the gates where the thief had knocked two guards unconscious less than an hour before.
Demetri thought about his battle, remembering each moment and examining his strategy. Now that he was able to get real combat experience, he could improve his own tactics and pinpoint is own weaknesses. Although, he was fast with his swordbreaker and his chains, they weren't enough for him to win. His chains were weak against other attacks, just the arrow from the mage alone tore through them in their entirety. His swordbreaker was weak as well, easily used to deflect attacks but easy to break with stronger weapons. He needed more than that.
Ideas flowed through the rogue's mind as he was brought to a medical room, New Babylon's doctors quickly coming in and doing what they can to prevent the man on their table from bleeding to death. They started by stripping the man of his shredded leather armor, revealing his open and bleeding wounds. After tending to his legs and body, they began to try to asses his arms, but metal from his chain devices still clung to his flesh. One of the doctors reached for the steel, only to immediately find his patients hand on his own.
"No touching the metal."
The doctor hesitated for a moment before nodding his head, his breathing having increased slightly, fearing that the patient would turn on him, before the grip on his hand loosened, the patient returning his hand to his side. The doctors and nurses then strapped he patient down on the bed and left the room, having done that they could.
Demetri's arms began to glow, a sign that the thief was using Omnilium to heal is own wounds, willing them to close. He focused on his body, restricting his senses to only himself as he took a moment to completely assess his wounds and the care given to them.
His messy black hair was held down by a few strips of gauze, covering the migraine-inducing head wound he received while tumbling into the marketplace due to Sasuke's combo attack. His legs were wrapped in gauze, aiding the two wounds caused by Victor. A splint was attached to his right leg, apparently he suffered a fracture during his battle. Multiple bandages and stitches covered the rest of his body, but nothing seemed too serious.
After about half and hour, he had formed his base metal casings for his chain devices, having them serve as makeshift splints/casts.
Shortly after, some guards came in and released the thief from his shackled bed, only to place him in a separate set of shackles. The chained shackles somehow put Demetri at ease, as they led him into the hallway. As they walked down the halls, Demetri couldn't help but notice the abundance of framed pictures of a blonde haired man, in numerous poses and positions. Was this the so called King of New Babylon? Demetri felt that the man was a bit too self-absorbed.
After a long walk, Demetri was finally showed to his cell. He walked in and stared at the wall in front of him, as the door clattered shut behind him, the click of the lock following immediately after. Already, Demetri hated this cell. But it wasn't he damp, mossy floor beneath his feet, the horrid smell of decay and mold, or even the scattered decay of rodent feces on his bare bed. What bothered him was the giant framed portrait of the New Babylon King in front of him
With a bit of defiance still left in the thief, he took a few minutes to summon a small container of ink to deface the protective glass protecting the picture. His arm screamed with pin the entire time as he reached and scribbled against the squeaky glass, but Demetri was satisfied with the result.
He sat against the cold stone wall as he awaited whoever was to confront him on his actions. Most likely, it would be the champion of Dante's Abyss that had sent him flying into the marketplace. With a sigh, the thief closed his eyes as he rested from the fight.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson shuffled passed some tiny persons en route to his new seat. For some reason, the smaller member of the Rock n' Rock Connection decided to swap sides of the arena, which meant his largest supporter (both physically and metaphorically) had to relocate his seat to get the best starting vantage point.
"Beat it, Jabroni, this is the Rock's seat," the wrestler-turned-actor demanded as he 'gently' nudged someone from his seat. "Yours is over there now."
"On who's authority?" The little person asked.
The Rock lifted his eyebrow. "What was that? What's your name?"
"My na--"
"I DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS!"
With that, the displaced man started on his journey to the other side of the Colosseum, leaving the Rock to settle into his new stone cold chair. In front of him, Strazio was within distance of a piece of popcorn, but when the Rock tossed it toward the smaller man, the buttered kernel smacked into whatever invisible hocus-pocus kept the fighters in their little area.
"Beat his candy ass, Rockwell." The Rock shouted, knowing by the twitch Strazio gave off that his tag-team partner had heard him.
In the battle zone, Strazio stood before the Coruscant flags, and his adversary waited in front of Diablo's demonic standard. There was a gong, and they were both off.

The Space Marine felt at home with the assortment of bolters and various other tech that seemed derived from his own home verse, although the irony that he, a criminal by their standards, fought for the Empire in this metaphorical fight.
On the far end, Adam stood before Diablo's flag and the demon armaments. With a shrug, he turned and listened as the gong sounded. He'd got through the last one, he'd probably get through this one too.

With a glance, Kopaka noted that he fought on the Coruscant side of the battlefield. Did that make him the hero or the villain?
On the other end, Courier Six paid a short glimpse to the demonic weapons before waiting for the sound of the gong.
When it was struck, the two warriors were off.
