A Russian Ookami, A Goat, and A Neko walk up to A Gate..
Posted by: Dust - 11-10-2015, 02:19 PM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (8)

Volk has been walking for a while now, about 40 minutes, and hasn't done much than attempt to reach his new goal of on of these dots on the horizon. The muscle in his skull has been busy away with questions, answers, and riddles. But suddenly it was filled with one piece of information that had to explode from the contractor SW - 808's mouth. "Elaine!" That was her name. The young girl he and so many other kids had a crush on. The darling charm of her smile, and the way her eyes lit up..

He missed these sensations, but felt that he wouldn't have been able to appreciate this had he not been turned into a contractor. How frustrating it was to not know a name, the feeling of it right on the tip of his tongue.. The feeling of accomplishment and pride, while small, of finally remembering something you've long forgotten..

Even the pain in his heart that he was the only one that might have cared that Drake was gone.. How little that mattered when he was gone from that world too. At that point he wondered what happened to shock. He heard her voice when he was in and out of consciousness on the train. He thought he heard her humming at one point, felt her petting his shaggy hair. Or so he thought. Maybe that was just him dreaming.

As contractors he didn't have dreams, but he didn't have emotions either.. And yet, here he was celebrating that by testing them out with past unique instances. He never thought much of how he’d been tossed into a world he hadn’t much knowledge of.. And while that sounded strangely familiar given the Omni situation, he meant the day he was grabbed once upon a time when he was but a pup..

This made Ookami look down at this hands again, was he just a human? He could only know if he tried..

Colosseum - Quarterfinal - Shang Tsung vs Strazio Rockwell
Posted by: Storyteller - 11-10-2015, 09:58 AM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (7)

Shang Tsung glanced at the Kingdom colors and wondered if he was the 'good guy' in whatever tableau the Colosseum officials had concocted for this round of the festivities. On the other side of the arena, his adversary stood before a red flag with some strange insignia that was probably a tribe of some sort.

Strazio Rockwell scowled at the assortment of weapons and wondered if any of them would be useful.

Out in the crowd, a Brahma Bull flash a smug smile as he threw a handful of popcorn toward his tag-team partner. The buttered kernels silently hit whatever fancy-pants magic coated the arena and dropped down as if they weighed a hundred times more.

"Kick his candy ass, Rockwell," the Rock shouted before flashing glares at the tiny people who surrounded him. At the sight of the wrestler's scowl, they all broke out into cheers for Strazio as well. Feeling accomplished, the Great One leaned forward and watched.

Somewhere, the gong resounded, and the match started.

Colosseum - Quarterfinal - Adam Gaite vs Courier Six
Posted by: Storyteller - 11-10-2015, 09:48 AM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (6)

Adam stood and scowled at what awaited him for this round.

Someone has too much time on their hands. Had they really built all this in the short rest period between rounds?

With a shrug, Adam turned and glanced at the Kingdom flag mounted behind a cache of weapons. It was gear just like the first round... a bunch of swords, shields, and crossbow-type weapons. Glancing across the arena, he saw that his opponent this time around looked like just a man.

But they're never just a man...

On the other side of the arena, Courier Six glimpse at the weapons they had provided him and started to piece together a plan of action as the gong sounded to commence the fight.

Colosseum - Quarterfinal - Okor vs the Bandit
Posted by: Storyteller - 11-10-2015, 09:43 AM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (7)

The plague marine paid just a moment of his time to the outdated relics in the crate behind him. The human insignia and their weapons meant little to him.

On the other side of the battle zone, the bandit smirked as she looked at the collection of archaic axes and assorted stabbing implements in the chest. The flag that ruffled in the breeze had some cool sort of tribal logo on it that she didn't recognize. After making a mental note about what she liked from the box, the woman turned and squinted to see across the little replica city. Her eyes rested on her opponent, and she didn't know whether to scowl or grin at the monstrosity.

Somewhere, the gong sounded.

Colosseum - Quarterfinal - Magus vs Dante
Posted by: Storyteller - 11-10-2015, 09:36 AM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (7)

He was victorious again, and now Magus found himself standing on a dilapidated two-story building. Behind him was a large wooden chest stuffed with tomahawks and spears. A large flag mounted to the rooftop displayed some sort of tribal colors he didn't recognize.

"Huh," the man muttered with a shrug as he turned to look across the replica urban sprawl beneath him. On the far side of the sea of streets and buildings was another structure topped with a flag. The Kingdom's colors were something he recognized almost immediately, but the man who stood next to them was a stranger.

On the other side of the battle zone, Dante glanced around and waited for the signal. "Let's get this over with."

---
From his special viewing area, Victor von Magnus picked up the padded mallet and walked toward the gong. When they told him about this being the selection for the round, he'd felt a mixture of pride and disgust. The events that the citizenry held up as an admiral defense of their home was anything but that, and while he felt honored at having defended the Kingdom, Victor could never forget the events of that day.

"You ready, Baron?" Someone asked from behind him, shaking him out of his daydream.

"Of course," he replied, smiling as he struck the gong.

Colosseum Discussion 3 (QFs and Beyond)
Posted by: Proto Man - 11-10-2015, 09:23 AM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (81)

Bracket: http://challonge.com/CamelotColosseum

The Tournament takes place at the Camelot Colosseum, a massive Ancient-world stadium not unlike the Roman Colosseum at its zenith, albeit with some more ‘modern’ amenities, like places selling Camelot cuisine and trinkets not unlike the souvenirs you would find at a baseball park or football stadium.

Given the scale of the Colosseum, eight matches will take place simultaneously. The floor/arena portion of the Colosseum is 300 feet long by 200 feet wide. So each fight zone for this round will be about 75 feet wide and 200 feet across.

New - For the semifinals, each fight zone will be 200 feet across by 150 feet wide.

During the entire duration of the tournament, the audience will be protected by an invisible magic shield. This same shield is used to divide up the interior of the Colosseum into eight portions to prevent fights from spilling out or interrupting anyone. This barrier has a ceiling at seventy five feet.

New – All armory weapons and all environmental weapons count as Moves for the sake of avoiding the ‘Well that’s not a Move, so it doesn’t work as well against me!’ line of argument. A sword or a blaster gun from the armory functions on the same level as if it was a Move that prime had.

New – Extension rules have been clarified/altered for this round moving forward.

Battleground Description

‘The Troll Insurrection'

For this round of the tournament, a replica of Minas Tirith's lower quarter has been constructed. A mixture of tall and short buildings abound, with a few wide streets and alleys separating the structures in this famous part of Minas Tirith. Decorations like street vendors and stocked shops abound, giving this the feel of the genuine city (aside from the population, of course)

Years ago, the foul Zul'jin and his followers decided to abandon the Kingdom in its time of need. When the noble King Aragorn and Victor von Magnus moved to prevent their flight, a battle broke out in the lower quarter of Minas Tirith, near the city's main gate. Zu'jin and his cronies murdered dozens of innocents as they cut their way out of the city and from Camelot forever.

In this round, competitors will take on the role of a troll or a Kingdom soldier. A single weapons cache beneath the standards of the opposing armies has been provided at each end of the fight zone. Each contains weapons from that specific army, both melee and ranged options are available for the interested parties.

The structures range from one- to four-story structures. The 'roof' of the fight zone is at 60 feet (about 15 feet taller than that tallest buildings in each zone).

OOC Stuff

Purchases - Moves and other stuff may be purchased between fights. If you buy something during a fight, you may not use it during that fight.

The following are the rules for the tournament:

Judges: Gildarts/Caira and Thaal/BWNN
Alt Judge: Proto Man/Shang Tsung
Backup Judges: Dark Link, Edward Elric/Minato

Word Limit: 750
Posts: 3
Time Limit: 48 hours
SP use in enabled. SP does not regenerate between rounds. Injuries may occur. Neither injuries or SP use are factored into judgment, only the quality of writing.

Note: Extensions approval requires the affirmation of both fighters AND the fights judges. Extensions can be for no more than 12 hours. As douchey as it may sound, I'll make sure to personally enforce the no more than 12 hours thing to prevent this round from dragging any more than it has to. Previous strictness was to prevent early rounds (especially Round 1) from taking forever due to the volume of fights occurring. Apologies for any perceived lack of transparency on my/our part.

Judge Template

Quote:"Description and Clarity:
This section covers how effectively the writer created the world around the reader. Making sure that the reader can understand what is being described, using vivid or appropriate descriptions of items, events and people in the story and having good word choice all go into this section of the review. Note that using “purple prose” is not always effective, nor is consistently using flat, dry description. A writer that gets a good score in this section draws the reader into the world and allows them to see through the eyes of the character/narrator.

Voice:
No two writers write in the same style, nor should they. Even individual stories call for individual writing styles, a mood that creates a tinted lens through which the story is viewed. This is traditionally called the “voice” of the writer and it is a very important part of writing. A writer with a high score in this considers tone, pacing and including/disincluding detail throughout the entire story.

Character:
Character development, the actions and motivation of characters and dialogue are all important in this section. The goal is to create “round” characters as opposed to “flat” ones. Making the people in your writing seem real, not just archetypes following a plot progression is the goal here. The writer should consider who the people they are writing as are as individuals, why they take certain actions, their personal problems and boons, how they interact with the world around themselves and how they approach problems are all considerations for a writer in this section. Note that not all GOOD characters are LIKABLE characters. If you really hate a character that’s well written, this section deserves a good score!

Story:
Every body of creative writing, no matter how short or long, follows a storyline. How well the themes, events, messages and twists grab the reader is what makes the difference between a decent story and a great story. The writer must capture the reader’s attention hold it with the actions of characters and the world around them. This isn’t to say that a writing must be packed with action or intrigue, even something as simple as eating breakfast can be made into a great story. The presentation of events and how those events tie into the writer’s voice is what makes it good reading.

Grammar and Spelling:
This is the clerical work of the body of work. Spelling, punctuation, grammar and anything else that can be considered technical goes into this section. Generally every major grammatical error per 500 words moves this section down one grade."

"1: There is room for improvement. Generally the reviewer should highlight how the writer could improve this area as well as direct them to outside sources that can give more help.

2: This section was about average. The writer has room for improvement but about par with the rest of the site’s writing ability. Reviewer should highlight areas to improve and site specific errors or weak spots.

3: This section is above average. The writer has shown a competency higher than the average writer on the site, but can still notably improve. The reviewer can be vague with their ideas for improvement but still include specific details and weak spots.

4: This section was fantastic! The writer took the reins and really took the reader on a journey. Few errors or room for improvement can be found by the reviewer but anything that the reviewer feels could be cleaned up should be noted.

5: This section is one of the best the reviewer has ever seen. This level of writing is on par with professionals with very few errors and the reviewer should have a hard time finding room to improve. This grade should be handed out rarely, and only to the very best writing!"

Hello! As you can probably tell, I'm new. As such, I have no signature image, and my avatar is a bit of a placeholder.

So, I'm looking for someone to possibly do that for me, primarily because I can't draw for the life of me. I can provide a description, and can add to it if needed.

If someone does this, I'll love you forever. Or maybe just give you a high-five. I dunno.

Thank you!

[/float] So here I am, I don't know why I am here and its only a fact of where I'm stuck now that I haven't made my way to some place more civilized. But I have a lot of time on my hands hopefully before I die again and get summoned from my grave. So here's what I know about Omniverse, the person or god-thing Omni brought me here, I ran for life from raving lunatics in white armor before being gunned down. That was painful. My former Transfiguration Professor is also here in a place known as the mythical Camelot which I completely missed when randomly picking a gate. Bad luck huh?

I hope Professor Dumbledore doesn't hold my late homework against me.

So my question is, I'm trying to find out more about what happened since I was summoned from my world in 1943. Last I heard Gellert Grindelwald and Hitler were tearing Magical and Muggle Europe and Britain apart. Anyone teach those wankers how to die quickly, hopefully painfully?

Also where can I get a proper owl?

Kind of a miracle that I figured this whole thing out. Some rather dapper Rock Creature showed me how to make this 'dataverse device' right before a bloody volcano erupted and he got himself melted. So right now I'm hunkered in the poor chaps house until this storm of ash and fire subsides.

Anyways as much as this 'instant' technology is great, I'd rather prefer something that I can write with, like a good inkwell pen and some parchment. Maybe a few good books to write in as well. Or some books to read? Everything in this house is stone aged. Not even sure how to get the tranny to work, if that's what it is. Not even a proper Wizarding Wireless channel far as I can tell.
