Devil May Cry: how do I make shop?
Posted by: Simon - 11-16-2015, 06:49 AM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (3)

Although I probably won't be reforming Dante's business for a while in-character, I'm thinking I would probably benefit from figuring out how exactly the new Devil May Cry is going to work.

What I want to do:

  • Have Dante's shop established as a base in Costa del Sol [easy enough]
  • Advertise Devil May Cry on the Dataverse as a mercenary/paranormal investigation business [simple]
  • Have Devil May Cry serve as an outlet where individuals can hire the crew of the shop for mercenary jobs [this is the questionable part]
  • Have an NPC informant for Devil May Cry that can provide other odd jobs or missions for the crew to look into [plans have been made]
The question:
How exactly would I make Dante's shop serve as that sort of mercenary/bounty-hunting business? Would it be as simple as people hitting up Devil May Cry in-character and requesting a job done for them, or is there something more robust that would have to be done?

Thought Experiment - Hypothetical One Piece Movie
Posted by: Guu - 11-16-2015, 03:49 AM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (3)

This is directed towards people who know the early sagas of One Piece.

Say Hollywood made a One Piece live action movie, like the studio miraculously hired a director who gave a shit about the source material and gave him/her pretty much free reign to make a movie that was pretty accurate.

Let's say, because this is a movie, we have to get Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp together in the same movie, and the film had to end with them leaving the East Blue. With so little time to work with, you could only fit in one villain to be the main antagonist. Which East Blue villain would you go with?

If you guys need a refresher, the available villains are:

Alvida

Captain Morgan

Buggy

Kuro

Don Krieg

Arlong

I think either Buggy or Arlong are the smarter choices. Buggy would probably look better in live action, but the Arlong Park had a more gut wrenching story. What do you guys think?

Also, how would you get the crew together in the shortest amount of time possible? I'd say you'd have to get all four of those character together before the end of Act 1, but it would be better to have them around by the 10 minute mark. How would you do it?

  The Next Step
Posted by: Jim Raynor - 11-15-2015, 09:47 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (8)

Ditto flung the door open, smacking it against the wall. He stumbled into the warehouse and looked about in the dim light. The beginnings of Team Rocket turned their heads at the racket, sitting together by their beds on the adjacent wall of the massive building. Ditto patted his blazer pocket, making sure the device that he went to a great deal of trouble to procure was still there. He felt the bulge and stood shakily on his feet.

His gang stood and hurried over to their leader. Ditto blinked rapidly, staving off the effects of his last battle. Diesel was at the forefront, hard concern in his eyes. Shingles came up beside him, his myriad piercings glistening in the light that trickled in through the open door. Vinny was in the back, his trademark apprehension scrawled over his face. Ricky crouched beside Diesel, grabbing the toes of his boots, rocking back and forward while staring wide eyed at Ditto.

No Skaggs. Just as he thought.

"What happened?" Diesel asked.

"I closed my business transaction," Ditto said, puffing. "Now find me a place to sit down."

Vinny dragged a wooden chair across the concrete floor and Ditto collapsed onto it. Shingles closed the door and set the locks that lined the wall like a buttoned shirt. Ditto breathed in deep, doing his best to ignore the stuffy scent of mothballs and dust. He slouched into the chair. His entire body thrummed with aches and fatigue. The battle for the device had escalated far faster than he would have expected, and it almost cost him his life. If not for the rogue soldier's seemingly benevolent act, it most certainly would have.

"Are you OK, boss?" Vinny said, rubbing his moustache with an index finger.

"I will be," Ditto said.

Diesel gazed at the door. "Skaggs and Tor took off a while ago. They said they had some stuff they had to take care of, but their stupid grins gave away their secret. I tried to talk some sense into them-"

Ditto raised his hand. "It's fine, Diesel. Those two miscreants would have rebelled sooner or later." He grimaced as a sudden sting awoke in his shoulder. "Now, at least, we need not concern ourselves with them."

Shingles frowned. "You killed them?"

"No," Ditto said, leaning over his knees. "Actually, I misspoke. Tor is dead. I electrocuted that fickle moron until his skin was as black as my well polished shoes. I've no idea where Skaggs ran off to, nor Enigma, who was the mastermind behind the plan to betray me. They escaped in the ruckus." Ditto furrowed his brow. "But if I know them, they'll emerge from the woodwork eventually."

Team Rocket went silent for a time. Ditto wondered if they were contemplating their former member's deceit or death, or maybe realising the gravity of their situation, that their new leader did not mince words. Though they probably already knew that after Ditto had ousted Diesel as the leader of the gang.

"Get me some water," Ditto said to Vinny. The portly gang member nodded and walked off into Ditto's office, where the only tap was located in the warehouse. Ditto had to make some renovations to this place one day.

"So, what's the plan now?" Diesel asked. "You've got your device."

Ditto ran fingers through his jet black hair. "I've sent out a message into the Dataverse advertising Team Rocket's many ... talents. If luck smiles on us, we'll get some work through it. In the meantime, we must begin recruitment in earnest, while building Team Rocket's image to the greater audience of Coruscant, perhaps even the Omniverse."

Now that he was down two members, Ditto wanted to prioritise the burgeoning of his ranks. Four gang members, one of which was certifiably insane, was far too small-time for his liking. No, in order to one day bring the great Omni to his knees, Team Rocket had to span hundreds, maybe thousands of members across the Omniverse. Coruscant was the first step, but Ditto had a feeling it would be the hardest. While he hadn't investigated the other verses with much scrutiny, he didn't think such police states existed elsewhere. If he could crack Coruscant, then the rest should be relatively easy.

"But you're gonna use your device, right?" Shingles asked. "I mean, you went to a lot of trouble to get it."

"Oh yes," Ditto said with a smirk. "I've got big plans for the Dataverse."

  Arthuria Pendragon
Posted by: 2B - 11-15-2015, 04:53 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (7)

Character name: Arthuria Pendragon

Character source: Fate-series. (Fate/Zero Fate/Stay Night)

Character history:
Arthuria was summoned to the Fourth Holy Grail War by a mage named Emiya Kiritsugu. Kiritsugu however paired Arthuria to his wife, Irisviel von Einzbern. Her and her master’s goal was obviously to win the war, and attain the Holy Grail.

Arthuria did in the end find the Holy Grail but she also met Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes who was waiting for her arrival. The man proposed that Arthuria would become his wife and easily incapacitated her. Arthuria refused the offer as the Holy Grail is just in front of her.
Her master Kiritsugu arrived and immediately Arthuria requested him for the power of the command seal in order to defeat Gilgamesh and claim the Holy Grail as well as the victory. Against her expectations and wishes, Kiritsugu decided to use his last two command seals for her to destroy the Grail. The King of Knights was forced to use Excalibur to destroy the vessel of the Holy Grail, but its contents spill out onto the earth, razing the land permanently and killing almost everyone caught in its mud. With the Grail gone and unable to maintain her form, Arthuria is sent back to the battlefield of Camlann, as she remembered the words of Lancelot and Rider.

She was the sixth and final servant to perish in the fourth Holy Grail War.
As she fell asleep, like so many times before beneath the tree, Omni decided that it was time for Arthuria to join the Omniverse.

Physical Description: (originals only)

Stats:
ATK: 4
DEF: 1
SPD: 2
TEC: 3

Starting Proficiencies: (1600)
Physical Strength (1.000)
Area Attack Proficiency (600)

Starting Powers: (2200)
Super Speed (1.000)
Burst Movement (800)
Master Acrobat (400)

Starting MovesSad900)
Excalibur (600)
Excalibur has two forms.

Invisible Air:
In this state, Excalibur is enveloped in multiple layers of wind compressed around the blade. This compression of air allows the blade to be very hard to be analyzed based on looks. The wind disguises its shape, length and other physical properties to the naked eye. However, this advantage of surprise is also ruined by the wind. The wind dulls down the blade and reduces its overall sharpness to nearly blunt levels. However, the tip of the blade is still sharp and pointy, capable of piercing.

Excalibur:
Arthuria can use Excalibur without the compressed air enveloping the blade. If used without the layer of air, Excalibur is completely visible and recognizable, but also retains its normal level of sharpness.

Total length of Excalibur: 95 cm
Excaliburs Weight: 1,4 kg
Length of Hilt: 25 cm
Length of the Blade: 75 cm

If you’d like comparisons:
Average Long sword is in total 100-130 cm long, of which the blade length is about 90-110 cm. Average long sword weighs about 1.1 - 1.8 kg.
Arming swords on the other hand are usually 90 cm in total length on average, with the blade length averaging on about 75 cm, and the weight being approximately 1.1kg.

Release: Invisible Air (300)
Requires Area of Attack Proficiency & Excalibur in "Invisible Air"-state.
Releasing the high pressured air that renders Excalibur invisible causes the pressurized air to surge frantically around Arthuria with great force, capable of knocking down normal people and shaking even firm trees like a typhoon. This however reveals Excalibur in all of its glory leaving the sword visible to all eyes.

  An exercise in creativity.

This is something that I have both seen done and been the one to do on other sites in the past in one form or another, and I thought I might bring it back here. At its most basic, it will be simply telling a story, but not with what you might call a "linear" path of progression and plot. I will be providing the writing, but you all will be the one providing ideas, or, if you are at all familiar with the wizardry and insanity that Andrew Hussie has produced through MSPA's early ventures, "commands". I will then respond to them with (hopefully) amusing tidbits to progress things toward whatever end the commands leading up to that point has put our intrepid adventurer on the path to.

The commands will primarily operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a few days for everyone to provide input. I may very well use every command people offer, or combine multiple ones into one command if they are relevant or similar. I only ask that you do not make them overly complex. A good sentence or idea will suffice for a single command!

With that said, it is time to start off simply and just to gauge interest!

______________________________________________________________

You stand alone at an empty crossroads. Behind you, and to either side, the dusty trail stretches on as far as your eyes can see, winding into the horizon. How you got here, you cannot recall. Where here is, you also cannot recall. You begin to worry about your lack of remembering these details when you suddenly come upon a much more pertinent question that your scrambled thoughts manage to make you aware of. You have no idea who you are.

What is your name?

  Kick in the door!
Posted by: Roger Smith - 11-15-2015, 01:26 PM - Forum: The Arcade - Replies (19)

Recently I came across a quick little adventure/campaign for D&D 5e. The kind that shouldn't take more than two or three sessions to complete, at the most. (But may evolve into further adventures if people are interested maybe.) It has caught my interest for its relative simplicity, and looks like it'd be fun to try my hand at DMing for it, so here's a little thing to check for general interest from you folks.

It's a short little kick in the door and get right to it old-school dungeon crawl adventure. Little bit of exposition to set the story, and then right into things to start monster fightin' and dungeon-delving and doing big damn hero things. Characters would be level 2 because reasons, and should proooooobably come equipped for cold weather, but that's all I'll say about THAT.

It would be played primarily by skype, if that's something that is a matter of any concern, so bring your imaginations.

Anyone interested?
