| Refining sword-style moves |

Let's start simple. After DA I plan to do a lot of work on Takezo's moveset, considering he will have very few powers to rely on in the long run.
Iaido: First Strike: This will be shortened to JUST "First Strike." Iaido is a modernized form of Iai no jutsu, or Iaijutsu, and I feel like the word is just bad flavor? That aspect doesn't matter, but I'm heavily considering just turning this into Takezo's Super Move, prolly the only one for a while.
Katana This will end up becoming more "flavor" than anything, due to breaking it up into techniques by which it would most commonly be used.
Shallow Cut: This does low Burst damage, but high Bleed damage and is what "Katana" was originally supposed to be. Flavor text has it based off of a chinese form of torture and execution called Lingchi "Death by a thousand cuts." It will favor the use of one hand instead of two, thus reducing strength as a caveat of the move. Low initial damage, but the bleed damage will stack. Flavor-wise, it'll be a very sadistic move.
Quote: Wrote:Shallow Cut: This sword technique was popularized by far-traveled Samurai who witnessed the act of Lingchi. Lingchi translates to "Death by a Thousand Cuts." It was used as a form of torture and execution in China. Shallow Cut is a technique based off of Lingchi that uses shallow cuts to inflict a few seconds of bleed damage. However, it avoids major arteries and the use of excessive strength. The lighter blows means faster strikes, which allowed the swordsman to land more cuts on their target. The lack of strength for this attack allows Takezo to easily use one hand to deal the appropriate amount of damage.
Deep Cut: This is the two-handed variant focusing heavily on burst damage with very minor bleed damage. This uses mostly all of his strength and as such tends to be a bit slow. Blocking is generally not a good idea if at all possible.
Quote:Deep Cut: Samurai often focus on slower, but more powerful strikes to decide a battle in as few strokes as possible. The high precision attacks were not at a Samurai's full speed, but they were considerably more deadly than flailing one's sword about and often overwhelmed the unwitting foe that attempted to block instead of evade. Deep Cut requires two hands and proper form, making it rather rigid and hard to evade, but if it lands a victim with Defense 2 lower than Takezo's attack not only takes heavy damage, but is forced in the direction of the blow; left, right, down or even thrown upwards with the force of the cut.
Cutting Defense: A technique used to deal with ranged attacks, it uses quick, light force attacks to literally cut through most slow to medium paced projectiles, depending on Takezo's current speed. So far, I'm trying to decide on wording the actual flavor for it.
Daisho: This is another umbrella term (Read as "Fodder Move.") The use of a secondary sword, smaller than the main hand, is what Takezo's RL and Manga version are famous for. So, I'm considering adding a second sword to use when he uses Shallow Cuts, and subsequently a few moves for the offhand short sword.
Defensive Cut: Using his offhand wakazashi defensively, Takezo is capable of simultainiously attack and defend. Granted, this could only be used for Shallow Cuts, and usually has the off-hand acting more like a shield than an actual sword.
Thrown Sword: Perhaps his only ranged move in the short term, he throws his short sword to devastating effect.
I've given up Japanese naming, since... well... I don't speak a lick of the language.
Note: Thanks to Cell for pointing out the flaw in the original, it inspired me to take the time to research and rewrite a much better flavor text and accurate description, and really think about direction. Admittedly, the original move was kinda thrown together hastily for DA.
The reason for the topic (finally) is to ask for a bit of advice. Have I missed any obvious moves? I don't have many for defense, or for ranged. Flavor-wise, would it make sense for Takezo to have anything outside of swords? Historically, he is not depicted as having a bow or crossbow or anything of the sort. Then again, I'm sort of taking liberties as it is, giving him such a varied/specific moveset that's somewhere between fact and fiction.
If it helps, I plan to do a Hell arc, where he is banished and forced to fight in the Arena, before earning an audience with Diablo. So adding more "hellish" moves for later down the road is totally fine, or perhaps statements to justify powers outside of what is normally expected.

Character name:
Sylvan Ravenhead,
Character source:
Original.
Character history:
Darkness. Always seeking to consume the Light. Since the ancient times, the world of Villielaimia was torn asunder by the eternal war waged by the creatures of the Darkness, the Baalan (sentient arachnids), and children of Light, the Elaimet (sentient mammals). At one time in history of Villielaimia, Baalan were driven out to the eternally shrouded in night part of the planet. Since then, Elaimet kept the creatures of Darkness at bay.
Sylvan was born a wolf, in a family of feudal lord of Ravenhead. As a wolf boy from a noble bloddline, he was to be brought up as warrior, with his only goal in life to wage war on the enemies of Lupus Empire, whose vassals they were, and occasional Baalan menace. During those times, the Ravenhead castle prospered and Sylvan was sent at the age of five to the best warrior training establishment of their region – Orden Ogan (Order of Fear). There the young pup spent almost twenty years of his life.
The order was training its disciples in ways of waging war through many different methods and means, but each aspirant was meant to dedicate his life to mastering only one or two of them. Sylvan dedicated himself to swordfighting and assessment.
Years were hard on the bright-eyed pup. Constant training and hardships that he was put through to forge his body and soul. Regular patrols and skirmishes with the Baalan. Internal competition and fights for dominance between the order’s students. Yet through all this his smile and laughter persisted. It would be much later that his naïve outlook on life would be shattered by the unforgivable bloody reality of waging war.
And wage he did. The wolves and catkind never really got along, and on his 20th birthday the inevitable happened. Lupus Empire was attacked by a large force of neighbouring Felinid Kingdom, populated by various felines. Elder students of Orden Ogan went to repel the intruders along with the real warriors of the order, jomsvikings, and empire’s army. This was the first time Sylvan killed a non-baalan, the notion as repulsive to him as cannibalism. He had to, though, to protect the other inhabitants of the empire.
It was during these times that Sylvan really understood the burden he was carrying on his shoulder as a warrior. Because it was not just for a living. Lives of others depended on him fulfilling his duty, not simply trying his best. The wolf knew he wasn’t the strongest, or the smartest. He wasn’t the best magician, since he wasn’t actually able to control his spiritual energy on his peers’ level. But he has seen time and again that one didn’t have to be one of those in order to be the winner when it came to war. On the brink of the start of his third decade, Sylvan renewed his dedication to the art of war, aiming to become one of the best warmasters and earn the title of Man-o-War.
Eighteen years later the war between Lupus Empire and Felinid Kingom was still raging on. Sylvan, now a commander of his own warpack, was stationed back at the place of his birth, the Ravenhead castle. Located near the south-eastern border, surrounding fields and villages could become a target of small felinid bands. The wolf, still considered young in a race with almost three hundred years of life expectancy, became known as a warsinger (a battle mage, inspiring and strengthening his comrades with songs) and a master swordsman. His family though could not recognise Sylvan after seeing him for the first time in almost thirty years. Gone was the smiling and laughing boy who could not sit in one place. In his place stood a passionate warrior, fierce killer and a cunning deceiver, who was fated to stand among the highest commanding officers of Lupus Empire in the course of several deacades.
But fate, that untrustworthy bitch, got other plans. What no one expected, was a five thousand strong felinid army to invade the Ravenhead. The castle burned, its defendants giving their all in order to buy a few minutes more for surrounding civil population to get as far away from the catkind menace as possible. Heavily injured in an arrow salve from felinid crossbowmen, Sylvan was directing his men from the western tower through his warpacks thought-speakers and supporting his men in the only way he could – strengthening their resolve and prowess as a warsinger. Still, there were only a hundred and thirteen wolves in his pack, and even with the help of volunteers, they were outnumbered forty to one. Their path was set, they would all head into the house of death that day.
Sylvan was the last wolf standing, the castle of his ancestors burning around him, the blood of felinids pooling at his legs and their decapitated bodies lying in piles on the tower’s stairs. The wolf was leaning on the wall, chest heaving, lungs trying to get as much oxygen from the heavily smoked air around as possible, his greatsword clutched firmly in his hands. Even despite the constraints of narrow staircase, none of the opponents could rival his swordsmanship. He was already dead and, Sylvan knew it. But he would go undefeated by a mortal being. A small respite in the face of the oncoming flame, but still enough to bring a vicious smile to his muzzle.
These days, castle Ravenhead stands abandoned and desolate, a testament to the fight that took place there. Many bards will tell you the story of Ravenhead castle’s hold, and as is often the case, their tales will differ. But one common detail to those stories is always the end of the castle’s last heir. As he was burning down in the western tower, the wolf was singing. His throat parched and sore from the smoke. A song that was, is and will be forever sung by the wolves after battles well fought in remembrance and celebration. A song that you, my friend, might know. For surely you have heard “Raise your Horns”?
Physical Description: (originals only)
Teeth. Sharp white fangs that fill the maw of a tall black furred wolf are usually the first aspect of his features to gain attention of someone meeting Sylvan for the first time. Next comes the understanding of a fact that one has to crane his or her or its head in order to look the wolf in his golden round pupiled eyes, either disinterested or full of passionate fire. For standing seven feet tall, even though his build was considered to be on the slim side, Sylvan poses a rather intimidating figure. Especially once you comprehend that a real wolf is standing in front of you, elongated muzzle, long sharp nails, fangs of a predator designed to tear into flesh. The wolf’s body is covered with an inch long fur colour of a black raven’s feathers, reason for the family name, and his head sports a long “mane” that the wolf takes very seriously, spending half an hour during his morning rituals to make sure it is as pointy as possible without supporting carcases. Another notable feature are his red eyebrows.
In his clothes Sylvan prefers garments that don’t restrict his movements and provide some form of defence at the same time. Usually, this means trousers with sewn in metal plates, a vest with a chainmail over it. Grey leather cloak along with dragonhide boots complete this outfit.

Twin nodachi (curved single edge longsword. Requires Physical Strength) – 600 OM
It is said that curved swords were the pinnacle of swordsmithing art in Villielaimia. Specifically designed to slash and cut, rather than simply hack and thrust, they were the choice of master swordsmen. Especially sought were the blades forged by tanuki masters of eastern kingdom of Kukonlaulu, known as katana or nodachi. Nodachi was essentially a longer version of katana with slightly less curvy blade, designed for further reach and fit for battles against cavalry.
Sylvan’s pair of nodachi are identical, with customised hilts, handle length of 17”, blade length of 50”, width of 1.6”, and overall length of each nodachi 67” or 5’7”. Both blades are slightly curved. Their sheaths rest at wolf’s right side, and are specially crafted to release the blades from the top, since dragging such long swords, even with his height advantage, is a huge hassle. The nodachi are named Gorefather (used for right hand) and Gorechild (used for left hand). Wolf uses them to land speedy and variable series of attacks, aimed at maiming his opponents unprotected parts. His favourite target is usually foe’s neck and face.
Special ability: Fusion. Both nodachi are put together in order to conjure through magical means a single double-edged straight greatsword with 20” long handle, blade length of 80” and width of 10”. This weapon is designed for pure strength two-handed hacking attacks against heavily armoured opponents, though can also be used in thrusts.
I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct. This I swear upon my honor.

Oi Sans, why are you messaging me? I thought you knew what I was going to do. And why're you using that other number? Your contact on my phone says that you got a whole different one! (Don't ask me how it got there, maybe our phones magically exchanged numbers when we were near each other in Ambrosia? :-D )
I only just saw your messages about fighting Flowey. Don't worry about me - he's dead. I'm recalling to Ambrosia right now, if you're still around. And tell Jeremy that if I catch him flipping burgers somewhere he'll wind up looking like the flower ;-)
(Attached is a selfie of a severely beaten-up Undyne with the two equally beaten-up halves of Flowey in the background, somewhere in Coruscant. Despite her state Undyne is smiling.)

I decided to work out how much OM I need to buy all of Enel's powers that I want, and roughly what order I should buy them in.
Master Enhanced Senses Upgrade (300)
Malleability (1000)
Phasing (1200)
Super Speed (1000)
Survival (2000)
Disassemble (800)
Hive Mind (400)
Advanced Regen (1800)
Teleportation (1500)
Telepathy (1500)
Fusion (1000)
Growth (800)
I didn't include the advanced versions of Fusion and Teleportation ... so including powers caps, that's only what? 21,000-ish OM? Minimum? That's not too hard :frog:

| June Monthly Accolades (Until July 5th) |

Yes, ladies and gentlemen! For the first time in forever, the Monthly Accolades are actually out at the appropriate time! Now that I've actually managed this 'extraordinary' feat, let us hop right to it! =P
For those of you who are unaware, the Accolades involve nominating (and later, voting for) those who have outdone themselves in a particular area each month. For variety's sake, the categories for each month may be different.
You have until June 30th to nominate your choices. After that, we will proceed to the voting phase where members will vote among the two individuals with the most nominations for each category. An exception to this is if someone manages to get 5+ more nominations than the runner-up, in which case that person becomes the winner by default.
If you wish to participate, think of who stood out the most in a particular category this month and post your choice, along with a 2-3 sentence long explanation, in this thread. You are not barred from nominating your own characters/threads, nor do you have to fill out all the categories.
The winners will become this month's "Community Stars". And what benefits does this bring? Here is an explanation, courtesy of Alex:
(07-26-2016, 11:34 AM)Alex Wrote: As part of being voted as a Community Star/User of the Month (I use the terms interchangeable mainly because Community Star is less formal-sounding than User of the Month), these members gain a color (you must select this in your User CP) and access to the Omni-World R&D forum. In the past this was my pseudo-private forum, but it's now a place for myself and others to discuss the Omniverse. This is also the meeting place/brainstorming area for Story Aides and Story Guides, so for all intents and purposes, winning an accolade lets you become a pseudo-Story Aide for the duration of your reign.
Forum access is for the month following a member's selection as a Community Star, and this is irregardless of which 'accolade' you were selected for.
And the categories are:
‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?
‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?
Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.
Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)
'Best' Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining? Dark Data and Dante's Abyss are excluded from the running.
'Best' NPC – What non-player character (can be a site, personal, or story NPC) entertained you the most (for whatever reason). Please note who the 'owner' of said NPC is, just in case I am not familiar with them.
Purple Ribbon - Consider this a bonus category for nominating someone who, while they may not be the best and have all the twitter followers, you believe deserves to be recognized for what they bring the the Omniverse. (The winner must be a DIFFERENT person than last month's winner; the May winner was Guu)
