  The would-be King (Pre-Omniverse Flashback)
Posted by: Alex Mercer - 08-07-2017, 06:25 AM - Forum: The Astral Realm - Replies (3)

"Hault; state your business." The mecha-armed guard held his prosthetic limb up, faintly whirring fingers spread as a visual gesture to compliment his serious tone. He did not seem hostile or overly brutish toward the approaching Ziyadah. The mocha skinned once-smith was well known, but procedures were procedures.

Zi lifted his goggles and dropped his dust mask. "I have an audience with the King at noon. It's noon." Zi tapped his watch.

The royal guard chuckled. "You are late, sir. For one so fast, you do not keep time well." The guard steps back, placing his hand upon the door to the court room. "Apologies for speaking out of turn, m'lord." Formality, of course. The Smith-caste turned Noble proved to be a surprisingly easy man to talk to. Some were envious, and proved it with anger. Others were disgusted, which again invoked anger. And then others were relieved to deal with a noble that was not a complete ass.

Zi took the power in stride, usually, but today he felt he should be a bit... pompous. He stopped as he passed to adjust the man's mantle. "Instead of speaking, you should spend that effort on your wardrobe." And for flavor, he through in an exaggerated huff and tossed an imaginary scarf over his shoulders. "Now I must be off, his royalness loathes to wait." It earned a chuckle from both of the guards standing post.

Beyond the door, the courtroom was almost immaculate. A number of the Royal Cabal were present, slaving away to clean up the blood stains Redglaive had left from many, many unsavory deaths. Slaving away for these artificers meant overseeing several small homunculi each as they did the labor. The sight of the room made Ziyadah a bit uncomfortable. The throne that his Highness sat upon had held another king, not three days ago. One that died a horrid death, drinking from a chalice poisoned by Zi himself.

It was improper form, but Zi showed respect with only a light bow of his head. "You summoned?" So informal, any other person would have been scolded. The Cabal rolled their eyes almost in unison. The young man apparently still had not learned his place. Yet, who were they to scold him? The Cabal were all born of magic folk, and learned magic through years of study. This young man's magic was innate and more powerful even at his youth than a veteran Wizard at the peak of his craft. The last time one of the Cabal had pointed out Zi's aloof nature with the king, they had been scolded in return.

The King sat upon the throne of steel and dried blood, more to assert his authority than for comfort, considering his position. "You are late, Ziyadah."

"I was playing with the local children, sir, and teaching a few of the elderly how to interact with the Servant Droids. They are not used to such technology, your gifts may have been welcomed, but if no one knows how to make use of them..." Zi leads off, letting the King himself fill in the blanks.

"Paperweights," he surmised.

"Very costly and pretty, but yes, paper weights." The expression of King Meloth showed understanding with an undertone of annoyance. Meloth was a good king. Benevolent and kind and all about taking care of his people, Ziyadah would never look down upon this man. He personally has seen the worry and stress of his daily life, deliberating major changes in private court, and in public court doing the same with smaller, endless squabbles between every caste.

With a sigh, the noble nodded. "Try to be more punctual. I'm sure a boy of your skill could at least learn to use a watch." The King peered around the room. None but the Cabal and his royal guard were present, so he stood and stretched his sore back.

"We spoke only briefly of your success. The general trade of civil thank you and trivial words. I could tell you were upset about it. Was this your first time? Slaying a man, that is." Meloth looked upon the boy with understanding eyes. His hair was a graying brown, signalling his years of wisdom. He was not a violent man, preferring books over the sword at his hip. Even the blade, Zi knew, had an inscription upon it. A prayer, for those he is forced to cut down.

The young sorcerer nodded. "It was. I understand why it had to be as it was."

"Oh?" The one word response suggested the King actually wanted to hear Zi's response.

"Life here was horrible. I saw more death than I dare to recall while I was walking through town. Peasants starving because their King took everything they had each harvest, and gave nothing back." Ziyadah's stomach churned slightly at the grusome memory of the War-State. "We've been here three days. Your reputation proceeded you. The Golems you loosed in the town have already rebuilt three homes the King had burned to the ground, and we had to ration food not because of limited supply, but because children were eating till they were sick."

The King held a hand up. Ziyadah's explanation came to a halt immediately, as if he had offended the noble. "You care deeply for people. I've always known you cared for your family, or you would not have taken your Blood-Oath, but I suspect you care for all people. Even your mischief is harmless and does not burden people too greatly." The King cracked a smile. "Like when you decided it funny to switch the soaps for my royal mantle with something more fragrant."

"To be fair, my lord, you pulled off the lilac very well."

The eldest of the Cabal turned, scowling at the all-too-formal Ziyadah. "Watch your tone, peasant!"

At which point Zi smirks. "Sir."

"That is more like it." The elder said, but Meloth only chuckled.

Zi held up his hand. "No, no. You will address me as Sir. By Royal Decree, I am a Noble of Yorheim, and all controlled states. You will address me as Sir, Magesmith." The elder's eyes became wide as saucers. He did not know what to say to that. He knew every noble family, worked for them all in his time, but this new boy came from nowhere. This Magesmith was definitely in the envious category.

"Phillius," Meloth announced, "I've been informed that the commonfolk of this kingdom need assistance with golem-interactions. See to it." Zi could see the exact moment when the Magesmith's heart sank. "And while you preform the work of an intern, I beg you remember your place. After all, you did not save an entire kingdom single-handed."

The King's words were double edged. The cut into the old man, but they also unintentionally bit at Zi. Saved a kingdom? At what cost. He killed a man. Poisoned his wine and watched him suffocate as his throat closed up. The sensation of feeling so angry and yet triumphant as the War-King Redglaive lay dying at his feet. The sorcerer made himself sick. Meloth noticed the youth's mocha skin pale around the face.

"Be at ease, boy. You did your duty to the Kingdom, and because of you, Yorheim's prosperity now falls on a land that knew only torment. You are the Hero of the Red Kingdom, and you have my word I will make sure your name is remembered in the best light." Meloth waved a hand in the air dismissively. "But I digress. I ask that you stand tall for a little longer, as I have important matters to discuss with you. And fret not, it does not involve violence." That actually came as a great relief.

"The Red Kingdom is without a ruling body. I've decided that Faylinn will rule here. I cannot distract myself from my duties to Yorheim without abandoning my people, and my son... well, I have only a few years left in me. With Redglaive dead, an early passing of the crown might add years to my life yet." Ziyadah nodded. It was common knowledge among the nobles that the king King was suffering under the great stress.

"It will be a shame to see you retire, Sir." He meant that. Meloth was a wonderous king. He had heard tales that Meloth spent a week out of the year during Harvest out abroad, aiding in the plucking of pumpkins. His son Bailoth was... not so eager to leave the court room. Not that Bailoth was a poor Prince, he was just as kind, but he was book savvy. He knew the laws of the land and preferred to delegate instead of act. It was Bailoth's idea to construct the Servant Droids and let them loose in the cities and bestow the farms that supplied the Kingdom with food.

Meloth was the type to get his hand dirty. Bailoth was lazy but smart, preferring to find the easiest way to get things done over the traditional way. The big issue was that Bailoth was awkward socially, and reserved. In court Meloth would seek a few laughs, Bailoth was quick and efficient. He would make a great king, no doubt, just... different.

As if sensing the inner turmoil his words had stirred, Meloth waved his hand once again. "Focus, my boy..." Zi snapped back into it. The idle thought on Bailoth as King drifted from his mind, for the moment. "As I was saying, Faylinn is to be Queen. I was hoping to ask if you would prefer to stay in the Red Kingdom. Permanently, that is."

His lips twitched. "So long as Faylinn follows the promises you have made to me upon my Blood-Oath, I will serve as her magical gopher as I have you."

The king chuckled. The young man was amusing. While most were fearful of the King, despite his reputation, Zi was confident and quippy. He had not enjoyed such a conversation since before he took the throne. "As amusing as the idea of a rodent in a wizarding hat is... the role I have for you is a bit more important."

"Oh? Am I to join her Cabal? Dropouts can't join--"

The King raised a hand gain to stop Zi's confused assumption. "No. I gave Faylinn one stipulation to becoming Queen. She had to pick a trustworthy man who would strengthen the kingdom in some way... and be wed before taking the throne." Color once again bled from Zi's face. She didn't! "She chose you."

My, aren't those judging topics ever so popular? Reminds me of the match making meme from a few months ago. Whatever happened to those?

Well, I'm always the type to follow trends! That is my reputation! We all know I only joined as Guu during the great "play elderich abominations who are disguise as children" trend of 2014! (We got Desco on that same train.)

Post below if you want me to tell you what judge thread your character would make! Don't be shy! I take all.

I'm unable to edit Guu posts in the Ambrosia private forum, which is a problem as there's a lot of shit I need to clear out there. In fact, can I have moderatorship of that forum and only that forum? Sorry to be a bother, just would be simpler.

Also, for whatever reason, I can't edit posts as Isabelle in the Dataverse Message Board. Far I can tell, it's the only forum that's happening and she's the only character it's happening to. It's weird as hell.

Whatever you decide and do, thank you!

Entombed. (Semi-conscious stream of thought/Labyrinth of memory-woven illusions)
Posted by: Gildarts - 08-07-2017, 02:58 AM - Forum: The Astral Realm - Replies (5)

Hi there! I’m Christa Adams.. Sometimes they’d call me “Breadcrumbs” in my time in the service, for many reasons, not just the whole marksman deal. I was a great tracker. Could have tracked down my own fate if I had wanted to. Only thing is, now it is staring at me in the face. Or well, something like that. Currently, I sit miles and miles underneath the waves of the ocean, imprisoned in stone. I wish I could’ve seen this coming with my scope. The stone left my brain a little… Concussed? Is that the word? I’m a little hazy down here.

I’m taking this time to reflect. I don’t remember a lot of things, and I’m pretty sure that Behemoth guy took a whisk to my brain. I do remember Katia, dying in my arms for the second time. God, I’m such a fuck up.

I sent out a distress call to some person named “Klaud” but their face doesn’t come to mind. I don’t even think they picked up. Could’ve been the wrong number, think they’d come and risk their life for a stranger? Yeah, I’m not so sure either. I’d do it though, not much to lose anymore. Plus, I’m motherfuckin’ killer.

So this is reflection time part two. I’m tryin’ to sort out my memories. Fat chance I’ve got of actually doing it but uh, I have all the time in the world now. Who knew that becoming immortal would suck so bad. Primes must have it rough. I personally wonder if they want to die sometimes. I, however, want to live. That’s why this struggle will never end. That must be why I’m still alive, despite being a fucking statue at the bottom of the fucking ocean…

Outside my body, I tense. I struggle. I mentally extend myself. Something happens. A turbulent whoosh extends toward the direction I’m facing, but nothing else. I can barely tell anything happened, save the teeny bubbles that were churned.

My eyes narrowed, or well, they were frozen open, but I willed them to narrow to help me focus. If I was trapped in stone, I was going to try and break out. That’s just who I am. I’m Christa Fucking Adams. What that means? Well, I’m having trouble summoning that, memory mumbo jumbo and all that. But I will say, this is testing my patience, something that the torture I endured for over a hundred days when I was held captive by the Empire never did. It was there I learned to savor the pain. This is just… Friggin’ prison. Nothing fun or entertaining about that.

Maybe though, I can still my thoughts. Get out of here, or maybe now I have the time -all the time in the world, really- to sort my fucking motherfucking bullshit out. Yes, my name is Christa Motherfucking Adams, and I’m not really sure if that is true. But I’m willing to start from there to find out.

It is like they teach you at bootcamp, or whatever. Basic training they warn you against psychological warfare, but how do you stop a real life psycho with magic illusion and spellery from invading your brain? I’m pretty fucking stubborn and even I couldn’t fucking do it.

All I have is my gut instinct. Telling me what is right and wrong. I have to start with the basics.

The known faces. I remember I bitterly hate the Empire. Stormtroopers slaughtered my parents at a young age and nearly killed my sister Katia. Am I even sure that’s her name? Yeah, maybe. I don’t know. Tasted familiar on my stone turned-tongue though.

Okay, so that was true. I was orphaned at a young age. Raised and trained with skills of the military resistance on my planet. Then we took it back, or tried. That’s when both me and my sister ended up here. The Omniverse. I tried to start a new life in Coruscant. It was an easily accessible verse, and I didn’t hate the Empire enough yet to stop them. I remembered how I’d tragically killed my sister. The depth of pain surged in me. How could my emotions lie? This also had to be true. The truths were getting suspicious and then I remembered what I had learned long ago. Lies were best when woven with truths. It made them believable. It made them real. Somehow, I had to fight that.

But how does a simple minded sniper do that? I’m a soldier, marksman, leader, and sister. Not some fucking time-twisting monk.

I couldn’t physically closed my eyes, but I allowed my mind to close, focusing harder. A face, handsome, adorned with a nest of sable hair came to mind. I didn’t know this face. Though my heart suddenly leapt at him. Then, the leaping accelerated with fear. This man didn’t have a name. I was surging with fright now. Who was he? Was the the man who had killed my parents? The image of a stormtrooper helmet slated over his face like a transparent mask. Immediate hate surged in my gut and hot fury made me fish for my rifle, which was nowhere in sight. Of course it wasn’t, I’m sitting at the bottom of the motherfuckin’ ocean.

UGH. I couldn’t tell who this guy was, but I knew he was bad news. Plus, I fucking hate stormtroopers. Killing my parents and then killing my sister later? Coruscant was a bad call, but I thought otherwise when we moved there. Didn’t know there were other safe verses. I didn’t know a lot of things, only that the top tier of Coruscant had great security cameras so that I could keep an eye on my sister when out on jobs with the military. No, I hadn’t joined my enemy. This was a separate, lower tier ballgame. Still, they paid me enough for me to support my family.

Suddenly a blond man with pointed ears appeared in my mind. I didn’t recognize him. Though his face was familiar. Standing next to him was a dog that looked more wolfish than domesticated. Had my hands been mobile I would have scratched my skull. Everything was so confusing... I wondered at this point if I could take this free time and sleep. So far, things were pretty inconclusive. I found out I hated one guy, didn’t know his name. Called Klaud, didn’t know his face. Elf guy with a wolf must’ve been some stray commoner I met once. Was it in the Omniverse, or prior to?

It was all a blaze, like I was trying to find a needle in a frustrating fucking haystack that was lit on fire. Eventually, I felt like it would all burn and I was just along for the ride. That’s what curses were for though. Yup, I was eternally cursed. And I blame Omni for it. Welcoming me into this world as a worthless secondary? What a jackass.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had a drink. Tasting alcohol made my stomach knot. Maybe I didn’t drink. I really didn’t have a good grip on who I was, maybe I never would again. The one thing I knew to be true, other than my name, which I was pretty sure about, was that swearing on my tongue felt pretty damn familiar.

Well, at least I could start somewhere.

Fuck. This. Shit.

  Welcome Back, Marine
Posted by: Doomguy - 08-07-2017, 12:24 AM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

Once the flash left me back to the familiar fountain, I looked around the area is a sweep expecting something. Anything strange, weird, out of the ordinary. Well okay, I got all of those things, because the Omniverse is nothing if not all of those things. But I was waiting for some attack from someone waiting for me to return, for a frothing and blithering prime deciding I was the one he was going to fuck with today, or even just for Omni to drop me in the middle of a pool of something unpleasant as one last  joke on his part. But I just found myself back to where I began, a calm fountain of water behind me rested upon a ring of flagstone, which slowly disbursed into the white nothingness that was the Nexus.  It was the same as it was before, the only real difference was me.

It might have been nostalgic, but at the moment all I could think was "What the fuck do I do now?"

The answer came from a series of sound clips coming  from my belt pouch. It took me a second after the (admittedly pleasant) transportation to realize that was my PDA and I ripped it from it's place to find that I was being flooded with replies from the crew I had left on the shore of the gate, back at port and very confused. There was a lot of questions aimed at me, some worried and some very, very angry. I shut it down for a while, and I sighed up to the high heavens. This meant I needed to go back to the Vasty Deeps. The Hell's Bane's teleporter would get me through the Empire's security without having to shoot up the charming store fronts and tacky decorations of Costa Del Sol.

I just wasn't looking forward to the inevitable conversation I was going to have with Elizabeth once she realized I knew what she had been keeping secret from me since I had summoned her ship.

Sadly, inevitable was called that for a reason. I opened up a line to the Hell's Bane and asked for a pick up.

As I felt the pull of dimensional travel, beyond the sheer annoyance of going from Omni's smooth scene transition back to being yanked like a fish through ice water, I resolved to a singular purpose beyond all others.

Quote:

Against demons, against monsters, against the soldiers of corruption. Against evil in whatever way it came and crawled.

I would Rip and Tear. Until it is done.

Perfect Cell vs Broly (Movie 8).
I gotta give it to Cell. Not just cuz he's my boy, but because I don't think Broly woulda thought to literally erase every portion of him. Which means he'd just keep coming back until he could wipe the floor with the dude. Dem Zenkai boosts, yo.

Got a fight in mind that shoulda happened but somehow never did? Post it here. Also, feel free to discuss any previously posted fights. Keep things civil, though. No "Batman vs Superman" levels of salt, please.

  IC- Black Vs. Amber [Mock-Fight]
Posted by: Desman Black - 08-06-2017, 11:09 AM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (4)

As the synthetic sun of the verse rises from behind the almost as artificial horizon, it lets it light reflect off the cold dark tower of metal that was now the resting place of many a now missing traveller, and a particular little red robot.

The crimson humanoid was just mopping around on the obsidian floor, turning over and over again like he was having a bad nightmare. Clearly something was on his mind, the only clue being that he would look at the disembodied stormtroppers every once and awhile, if the neon -blue visor that he called a face could see emotion right now, it would be guilt. But that was a story for another time, as the Door gave way to a teenage girl, by the looks of it she seemed to be in her late teens, there was really nothing interesting about her though.

"If you’re looking for the monster, I already defeated it..." Des said to the newcomer, seeming to have to force the words out. 'Well technically they disappeared into thin air, but they're gone anyway.' Apparently, they weren't looking for a monster as they took a step closer. "Could you please leave, I would prefer it if I was alone..." Despite Desman's really fed up with life attitude, the girl continued walking. "Fine, if you really want to stay ca you at least fight me? Here, I'll even give you a reason to." The Robot stood up and walked over to Teen... swiftly gave her a back slab to the jaw. "There, isn't that meant to mock a swordsman’s honour or something."

  Back in Blue
Posted by: All Might - 08-06-2017, 10:07 AM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - Replies (1)

The Nexus was harrowing. It was empty, it was dry. It was utterly blank, and permanently stained with violence. Brawls broke out between gods, in this place.

It was all compounded by the fact that many things were simply... not quite there. He didn't quite remember what he had been doing when he died, or even who he was fighting. He remembered feeling regretful- sad that he had failed, but not... angry. Not afraid. Whoever had killed him, All Might knew he had died without malice for his attacker. He was regretful because- he had failed to save something? Perhaps his death had been from an accident?

Either way, he would remember soon enough. He had wandered the edges of the Nexus as a Death Shroud for quite a while, he had found, and in all that time, he had not felt the presence of another soul. He knew the Nexus shouldn't be this empty, it was the path that connected all the Verses together, after all. But it felt utterly dead and empty.

It was only when he wandered toward the familiar sight of the Coruscant gate that he began to remember something useful. He needed help. He remembered that. He needed other heroes.

And there weren't, in Coruscant. He moved away from the Coruscant gate, and looked to the distance, at the next closest one... that seemed more like the right direction.

He entered the Vasty Deep, and fell to the sandy floor just inside the verse with a gasp.

All Might had been used to feeling good again. Sure, there was the occasional injury he received through fire, bullet, or fist in the course of his heroing activities on Coruscant, but with Omnilium and sheer willpower he found himself fine sooner rather than later. It wasn't anything like the intense, daily, chronic pain of his life before the Omniverse.

And this feeling he had now- it wasn't that bad, honestly. But after spending weeks feeling in better condition than he had been in years the feeling of weakness he had now, after resurrection, wasn't pleasant. It reminded him of darker times.

He pushed himself up before anyone could ask him what the matter was, and he began moving further into Costa Del Sol. The beach city was a beautiful, festive, alive place. Nearly the opposite of Coruscant, despite the Stormtroopers here and there. As he passed by a stand selling sunglasses of various types, he noticed that his outfit had changed- gone was the green jacket of Might, back again was the blue, white, red, and gold bodysuit of All Might.

Just as well, he supposed. If he was going to make an impression on other superheroes, he might as well dress the best he could. And truth be told, he had missed the old outfit.

He pulled his Communicator from his belt, and found a quiet spot to sit in the shade not too far from the beach. His first instinct was to check the date, but honestly, time worked... very oddly, in the Omniverse. In personal terms, it was extremely subtle in how it was different. Time felt the same, people passed by doing one thing or another, if you were driving, and it felt about rush hour, it would become one. Time flowed normally for you, but there was no telling how it would work out for others. You could hold a conversation with someone a day ago, and the next time you see them they could have a beard and saying "It's been so long!"

It was incomprehensible at times, but in the end it all worked out, somehow.

One of the benchmarks however, was that if you interacted with people often, they were more-or-less on the same level of time-flow as you. He held hope that Krid and Panda had only been waiting a week for his call, and not months.

"Might Agency." Came Krid's voice on the other end of the call.

"Krid!" All Might said cheerfully, "I'm just calling to let you know I'm alive and well!"

"Might! Thank god! Panda- get over here!"

All Might smiled at the familiar voices, "So how long has it been for you two?"

"Not much more than a week since you left. What happened?"

All Might frowned, trying to think back, "Well... I was killed."

"You- I guess it's true what they say about Primes then. You're just... fine, now though, right?"

"More or less. I feel weaker, but I'm hoping that will go away. If not, then I'll just have to gather enough Omnilium to return to full strength."

"I uh, I think it goes away after another seven days." Panda's voice said helpfully, "I'm glad you're back though."

"So how have things been in Coruscant?" the superhero asked.

"Things are... okay." Krid said, "We haven't really had the chance to take gauge of the whole situation yet. People have been calling, so we've been sending Gynoid out to deal with things. We stopped a few muggings, and there was a fire- well, she'll need some touching up when you do finally come back. We've been doing good work, I think, though."

"Well... good." All Might said, "...Krid, Panda, I'm in the Vasty Deeps at the moment."

"Do you want us to come over? I mean, it'll be a little expensive."

"No, no." All Might said, before considering, "I feel safer knowing there's someone answering the Might Agency phone lines and helping out down there, but if you do need to come over I'll have things covered financially."

"I've never been to a beach." Panda said, sounding interested, "But why the Vasty Deeps? We've checked it out, and your Empire Bounty's been erased. As long as you don't do something stupid in front of a stormtrooper immediately, you should be fine to come back."

"Tier Five... all of Coruscant, even, is far too big of a job for just me." All Might said, "I'm going to go to the various Verses, and try and find other Heroes. Genuine superheroes, and if I can't find any, I'll make them."

"Like... Secondaries?"

"Perhaps." Might said, "But I hope it won't come down to that. I'm thinking more- guiding those who could have been Heroes back into the light. Finding youngsters with potential and giving them an example."

Krid sighed, "Like us?"

"Like you." All Might agreed, "Either way, after coming back a lot of my memories seem a little bit hazy." All Might said, "But I think I remember there being some established Superheroes here in the Deeps. I'm going to try and find them. Gain their trust, help them out. Try and convince them to join me in cleaning up the Omniverse, if they've been sticking to the Vasty Deeps so far."

"The Avengers?" Panda offered.

It hit him like a brick, and All Might's smile grew even wider, his eyes flashing in recognition. He knew that name! "The Avengers! Yes! I'm looking for the Avengers! What can you give me?"

"Let's see..." Panda began, and All Might could hear the clacking of keys and Panda began to go searching for information.
