Staff Help: Deciding on SPD Stat
Posted by: Guest - 06-07-2015, 04:34 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (2)

To whom it may concern, I have been deciding on the fact of the terms of a character I am applying for. I cannot decide if he should have a SPD stat of 1 or 2, namely to the fact that the Koopaling I am wanting to apply for is medium-class weight and well, he isn't exactly really hyper fast-moving like Iggy is, but somewhere in between 1 and 2 in general. (I'm sorry, the Mario games continuity sometimes confuse me on debating on this.)

Another thing, the Koopaling in question is Ludwig von Koopa if anyone is curious.  :?

So, with the competition winding down I figured it'd be cool to look back on some of our great work. Here, you recommend a post you especially liked that is not your own, and give a *BRIEF* summary of what it is and why you liked it. You may recommend more than one post at a time, and you may comment on posts other people have recommended. Me first.

Harry Dresden's final post in the competition proper, and his best in my book. Way to go put strong, Harry. All I have to say is lightsabers.

I've said it before (I think), but we're at the point where it's really become anyone's game and is more akin to sudden death.

We're all friends here, so who do you believe will emerge from the Abyss?

Because I assure you, I still don't have a f**cking clue. You people are too good.

Some of The Best What-If I've Ever Read

I didn't write it, I have no idea where it comes from. All I know is that it is damn near perfect. Super inspiring.

It's a couple years from now, the chips are on the line, the multiverse is at stake, again... only this time it all comes down to Batman. He defeats the ultimate evil, only to find himself launched through time... into a strangely familiar city. Scrambling to find some clothes after his costume got destroyed by Z-rays in the epic battle, he nabs some threads off a low-hanging clothesline. He leaves his bat-wallet full of cash on the windowsill... he's not a bad guy, after all.
Just then, he sees a family of three emerge from the alley the clothesline was in. With a strange deja vu, Bruce recognizes... his mother and father. This is the night they were murdered! Bruce whirls around, looking for "Joe Chill," but it's only him and the Waynes. They barely glance at the ragged figure as they start to walk past.
With a spike of cold horror, Bruce realizes that in the death throes of the ultimate evil he faced off against in the future, it must have sent him here for a reason. Color draining from his face, Bruce reaches a hand into the borrowed coat's pocket... to find a dense, metallic lump. Drawing it out of the pocket, he comes face to face with a snub-nosed revolver.
A flash of terrible insight comes to Bruce along with an iron certainty. Without Batman, the universe would never survive the ultimate evil. Without this night, there is no Batman. This is his only chance... he must chose: break his one rule, or be complicit in the assured annihilation of the universe. There is no real choice.
With tears streaming down his face, he remembers with trained photographic memory the hollow words the mugger spat at the elder Waynes. They turn, startled. As if his hands had minds of their own, he feels the pressure on his fingers as he slowly and inexorably... pulls the trigger.
Bruce Wayne has killed his parents in order to save everything else.
In a blind haze, Bruce the elder stumbles from the alley as Bruce the younger wails into the night. Nearing the Narrows Bridge, Bruce's mind begins to crumble under the weight of what he has just done to himself. Unable to bear the maddening maelstrom of conflicting grief and certainty, he climbs to the highest point of the Bridge, looks out over the long-suffering city, and jumps without looking into the icy depths a hundred feet below.
Later that night, dockworkers pull a body from the water. No ID, no wallet. Nothing in the pockets but a gun and lint. Broken, deathly pale... but alive. As the foreman hangs up the call to the cops, he almost swears he hears something. It sounds almost like... laughter.
It is the laughter of a man who knows the funniest joke in the world, but just can't quite remember the punchline.

Fortnight of the 7th through the 20th
Posted by: Guu - 06-06-2015, 06:00 PM - Forum: Bookkeeping Archive - Replies (46)

Step 1: Make a post. This post should be at least 600 words. You may also post multiple times adding up to 600 words or more.

Step 2: Click on the name of your post. See it? It's probably something like 'Re: The Story of John Doe', a large line of text above your post. This should have a hashtag and your post link at the end of it (see the bolded part on the end here: http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=1114&p=7298#p7298). Copy the entire URL from your address bar.

Step 3: Post it in the active fortnightly gains topic. The date of your post should be within the date range, GMT. If you are submitting multiple posts that add up to 600, post all the links.

Step 4 (optional): If you have posted in the current book club, please include a link to that post along with the text 'book club'.

Step 5 (optional): If you have a Recognition bonus, please include in your post 'Recognition bonus: +50'. If you have an Ascendancy bonus, please post with 'Ascendancy bonus: +100'.

That's all you need to do! When the topic is updated, you will be given 300 OM. Obviously if you have a recognition or ascendancy bonus, this will be increased by 50 or 100. A book club bonus will increase this by a further 100. If no mod has posted at the end of the topic, then it hasn't been updated yet. You do not need to ask "has the thread been updated? I didn't get my OM" every week.

New fortnightly gains topics go up every second Sunday at midnight (at the end of Saturday and the dawn of Sunday) GMT. The valid time begins on Sunday at 0000 hours GMT and ends on Saturday at 2359 GMT.

I realize there may be a joke or two, but It spawns from ill thought.

Out of respect for the site and the winner of DA, I promise that decides to go after the winner... Even Attempting... i will banish you personally. I wont give you a chance. I will disrespect you just as you disrespected them.

And I hate the Banishing thing.

In character... It will work... There is no Meta-gaming... I will destroy you. Respect the Abyss.. Respect the Players... Respect the Handler? Lol.

I dont care who wins... Samus.... Mickey... GIl... DP...Doomy.... Luffy...Sasuke....

You wont rip it from them without having to get the reprecussions of dealing with the Horsemen. And It will make In character reason for Retane to respect the Grand Champion... If you think I am bluffing... try it. I dont care if I hate the person... You wont rip an artefact just because they won

  First Step
Posted by: Belle - 06-06-2015, 12:48 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

Belle struggled to open her eyes. Her lids felt unnaturally heavy, as if someone had hooked sandbags to them. She strained, trying to fight past the muddied fog clouding her thoughts. At first, all she could see was a sliver – a pale white nothing. Then, as the sensation of heaviness eased and she was able to at last open her eyes further, she realized that that was all there was to see.

Belle jerked, sitting upright. The sudden motion brought with it a churning, fierce wave of dizziness. She fought down the urge to retch as her vision swam. She clutched her chest, breathing hard as she sank back down and turned over, pressing her face into the blank, featureless 'ground' as she waited for it to stop tossing like a dingy caught in a typhoon.

A minute or so passed. At last, the floor beneath her apparently decided to have the decency to stop rocking back and forth. Carefully, not wanting to repeat the episode, Belle pushed herself up onto her knees. Then, with shaking legs, she rose to her feet, and looked around.

White ground, white sky, both were so featureless, so utterly devoid of any distinction at all, that she could only just barely make out a faint discoloration that must have been the horizon. It was a void, and yet, this emptiness wasn't entirely empty. Eight gates stood in the distance, arrayed at evenly spaced intervals around her. Each had a different form, and each was clearly made of some different material. Some gleamed, while others smoked. One simply seemed to be two bowing trees. They must have been enormous, she realized, because when she took a few experimental steps, neither of them shifted in her field of view.

The only other thing was a patch of grass. Incongruous, defying all logic, it sprang out of the white nothing that was the floor. From it, a small sapling sprouted, a handful of leaves soaking up what they must have imagined to be sunlight.

“Hello?” she called. No answer.

Belle felt another bout of dizziness coming on. She pressed her hand to her face. Some of the shroud in her brain thinned. Fragments of memory filtered back to her, message bottles washing up on the shore of her consciousness: Omni, the strange childlike being, talking to her, the world before, her home, all coming in bits and pieces. She had a mother, a father. No siblings. She had been going somewhere. An arcade? Only a few memories remained crystal clear.

She knew, intellectually, that this should have scared her, but it didn't. The world seemed like so much a vague dream, and she could only grasp onto a few particulars. Was she dead? This didn't look like any afterlife she had ever imagined, and Omni certainly wasn't how she imagined God to be.

One thing she knew for certain: she wasn't going to get any answers just sitting around next to a tree. Belle figured she was lucky that, at the very least, her clothes were comfortable: a pair of well-worn sneakers, denim shorts, and a zip up hoodie over a tank top. Turning to face the most familiar of the gates – a construction of shining steel – she took a few steps. When the sickness didn't assault her, her stride lengthened. The small patch of grass faded into the distance behind her, becoming a speck of green, fuzzy and indistinct, as the gate loomed slightly larger.

What felt like an hour passed. She was near enough now to see figures around the base of the gate. At first she thought it was her imagination, because they were nearly as white as the ground they stood on, but as she got closer, she realized that they were simply men in armor. At least, she assumed they were men. For a moment, she wondered if she should turn around, but then realized how pointless that was. There was nowhere to hide in this place, and they were almost certainly already aware of her coming. Taking a breath, she continued walking.
