Omniphysics and the Cognizance Thereof
Posted by: Belle - 05-13-2018, 03:20 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (4)

I brought this up earlier in chat, thought it might be worth a thread.

It's always been my thought that Omniphysics are not an OOC excuse for how things operate, but an actual, real aspect of the Omniverse itself - hence why powerful characters in their own series are confused when they arrive in the Omniverse to find themselves depowered. There's an actual, real thing that happens to them, that changes how they operate, and they're aware of it.

Extrapolating on this, given that the huge majority of the Omniverse is comprised of "secondaries" that can actually, you know, die, and are probably interested in not dying, it's been my assumption that they have probably experimented and quantified the rules that govern the Omniverse to the same extent that we, the players, have ourselves. For instance, if a threat arises on Coruscant that's identified as a Telekinetic, response teams would be trained and know that they are generally safe outside of a 60 meter radius, unless the Telekinetic has some sort of imposed Condition on how its powers work.

So, are Omniphysics an actual thing, or strictly an OOC tool? I think the former is more interesting, myself.

  Hoshi no Amaterasu
Posted by: Amaterasu - 05-13-2018, 02:30 PM - Forum: The Frozen Fields - Replies (4)

“So, we’re now making an alliance with Amber and the others, and we aim to have the trolls and dwarves become involved in it”, said Oki. It had been about twenty minutes now since they had left Fort Amber. Or the growing town of Atlas, rather.

“Exactly. The only trolls we ran into were in the mids of a fight against dwarves… and you and I know that war can make decent person into a monster. Bloodlust, trauma, fear, the loss of comrades and many others can warp an individual, so our first impression of them was very disfavorable. According to the dwarves they’re a fight-happy group but in this world everyone is. We should give them a proper chance.”

“What’s to say that they will not just attempt to fight us over the lands that we want to take?”

“They might. We will have to prepare for that… the same goes for the dwarves, though. What’s to say that their greed won’t get the better of them and cause them to betray us over whatever resources we unearth? The same may go for Amber’s newly found red Dust, by the way… it’s a valuable resource that many may be interested in.”

“Ye know I’m right ‘ere, don’t you?” grumbled Urist. “It ain’t very nice to voice yer mistrust of a group yer befriended with, in front of one o’ ‘em, Ammy.”

“I’m aware, Urist”, said Amaterasu. “And I was not meaning to say that it will happen. I was merely hinting that it is a possibility… moreso for Amber than for us, since she is not befriended with the dwarves.”

“Aye, but the Fort is turning into a fairly profitable location fer dwarven merchants. It’d be bad if the outpost got destroyed.”

“They could just take it”, Fiara pointed out. “But for now it’s more beneficial to let Amber keep things though, and to keep a good relationship with her since she maintains the outpost and doesn’t impose a tax or anything, so I imagine that she’s okay for now.”

With that the matter was concluded and not spoken of again. Silence fell over the Nimbus, and eventually the four of them each sat facing a cardinal direction to keep an eye out for threats and dangers and thinking about their own matters. Like this, hours passed. Only when the sun began to set did they stop.

“This feels familiar”, remarked Oki as they sat down. Fiara and Urist had produced some dried foodstuffs from their backpacks and Amaterasu had made a campfire with summoned logs and a torch, to keep them warm and heat some water for drinking. “It’s not even been that long since the expedition but it feels like ages ago.”

“Aye”, agreed Urist. “It’s almost nostalgic. Although, ah’m lookin’ forward ta a good pint o’ ale an’ a proper bed after all that adventurin’. At least fer one or two nights.”

“Don’t worry, Urist. Once we build Hoshi you will have a perfect opportunity to sleep”, said Amaterasu.

“Since when do we know that our outpost will be named Hoshi?” asked Fiara with a frown.

“Wha’s Hoshi mean?” Urist asked before Amaterasu could answer.

“Hoshi means star. And like a beacon star in the sky that lights the path to lost travelers we will be a beacon of light in the Frozen Fields to help those who wish for it.”

“Tha’s symbolic… bu’ ah don’ think that the dwarves an’ trolls need any guidance or help.”

Amaterasu grinned. “Of course, that’s what they think… but what if I told you that I have ideas? With Amber’s help we can create something that everyone traversing these treacherous lands will need. Let’s see… we had a fairly safe, snowstorm-free day, didn’t we. And even so we have been traveling for hours, and yet we are far from our destination.”

“Aye…”

“What if there was a way to skip that journey entirely, in exchange of a small fee?”

“Ye don’ mean…”

“Yes. In my homeland of Nippon there were mirrors, called Origin Mirrors, which are imbued with magical properties. You can warp from one to another if you know how. All it requires is that one steps into the light reflected by an Origin Mirror and cast a secret Celestial Brush technique of Kasugami, the Celestial Brush Kami of the Veil of Mist technique. It should be an easy matter to imbue a piece of parchment with the secret technique so that it can be used by anyone, not just me. And if we make the Origin Mirrors big enough, it would also be possible to warp large items. Like say, carriages.”

Urist stroked his beard. “If tha’ worked out… ye could transport goods an’ people across the Fields without ever settin’ foot into the dangerous areas. Ye could skip tha treacherous thin ice crusts, tha snow-covered fissures… ye’d save on supplies fer the drivers an’ pack animals… it’d be a fortune. It’s simple, bu’ a genius stroke.”

“Thank you! In any case, it would create an incentive to visit our city, at least until others copy our concept, but by that point I hope to have established a presence and branched out to other industries too. But for this plan to work, we need to be somewhere accessible, where merchants would be able to come to easily and from where they would be able to reach Zul’gurand and Dwarfholm to sell their wares. Somewhere central, between the two areas.”

“Aye, bu’ the center o’ the Fields is formed by the mountains tha’ eventually turn into the Roof o’ the World.”

“That’s why we are not at the perfect location. We will be somewhat closer to the Nexus Gate than in the dead center of the Fields. There is a large plain that we passed, that would be well suited.”

“Ye know o’ such a place? We’ve been travelin’ fer days once we got outta Dwarfholm. How’d ye remember?”

“Oki, you know what I speak of, don’t you? I think you would be able to explain it better than me.”

“Yes… I do.” The warrior turned a bit in his seat and faced Urist. “Allow me to explain what Amaterasu refers to: the land we come from, Nippon, is an island of limited size, but with a large population. It is rare to find uninhabited land suitable for living, agriculture and such. As a result I suppose that our people have a sense for that type of place ingrained in our senses. Sort of like you have it in your blood to see where to best swing your pick when mining.”

The dwarf stroked his beard again, as he always did when thinking. “And yer sure ye remember where that plain is?”

“Absolutely. You see…” Amaterasu drew a circle into the snow, and a dot in the middle. Then she drew a small dot on the bottom of the circle, and one on its left end. “Here, closest to me, is Dwarfholm. Over there, on my left, is the Nexus Gate. When we departed for the Void Gate, we took a large detour… in the shape of an F, I guess. We moved slightly towards the Nexus Gate, like so… to circumvent the mountain range here. Then we turned away from the Nexus Gate at a sharp angle to the right, to reach the perimeter of the Roof of the World.”

“And?”

“And, that means that our journey to the plain, located very close to where we cut that angle, will be shorter from Fort Amber than it was from Dwarfholm. I estimate that we will be arriving there tomorrow in the afternoon.”

“Will such a short journey be enough to make merchants pay for the Warping?” intervened Fiara.

“You’re forgetting that we are moving very fast… merchants move slower due to their cargo, which means more days spent out. And even then, the minutes that they save rack up very quickly.” She drew a line from the dot representing Dwarfholm, to the Nexus Gate dot. “This journey would take, let’s say three days. If they come to Hoshi - “ she drew another, much shorter line - “let’s say it takes one day. Warping is instant. Another half day to the Nexus Gate from Fort Amber, one and a half days. In two directions, this saves them three days every time they do the trip. Three trips makes for nine saved days, ten trips is thirty… you get my point. They’ll readily pay up a fair amount considering how much they save, and that money can go towards improving our infrastructure and attracting more settlers.”

“Which increases the risk that one side will try to monopolize this advantage, by removing us from the equation”, remarked Oki sinisterly.

“Yes… but that is a risk we have to take.” Then she took a bite of the dried meat and they switched to a different subject. Some two hours later they each went into their tent to sleep as the sun set and the cold Frozen Fields were covered in even colder night. Fiara and Urist were the first to go, with Amaterasu and Oki staying behind until the fire went out. Just as the former prepared to go however, Oki held her back.

“You’re glowing”, he remarked with a serious tone. “Have you noticed?”

“Glowing? Oh, yes… I’ve noticed, but I have no idea where it’s coming from. It’s been there for a while but it keeps getting stronger.” She scritched her skin. In daylight, especially in an environment as bright as the Frozen Fields, it wasn’t noticeable, but now at night it was more appearant. The glow was seemingly coming from within her, a multicolored light of unknown origin.

“Do you think it’s a disease or something?”

“I don’t think so, I wouldn’t have any idea what sort of disease that could be.”

“Does it itch? I noticed you scratching yourself.”

“A little. But that’s more the Frozen Fields’ temperature shifts, I believe. Don’t worry about it, Oki. If I feel sick, I will be sure to let you all know, and seek aid.”

“Alright… just be careful, you’re our lifeline out here and I’d never forgive myself if you died because of my neglect to watch over you.”

“Thank you Oki, but I believe it to be the other way around… the kami watch over mankind.”

“That’s true”, said Oki and smiled. “But what about monks and shrine guardians who keep shrines and temples in good repair?”

“Our power is not bound to a building or a place of worship”, the kami explained and laughed as she slid into the tent. She carefully placed the Wover Tear, her most treasured possession, into her backpack and used that as a pillow, so nobody could steal it without waking her. The unseeming black orb was held in a leather bag lined with silk on the inside, to conceal it from prying eyes, and even then she was very careful with it. As she finished the preparations to sleep, she explained: “These places are kept in a good state to prove that mankind has not forgotten about us, that they know their place and that they continue to seek our favour and goodwill. But let us have this discussion another day. I feel tired from a long day, and I need to sleep before I explode of giddiness… giddiness at building the city of light.”

Explode. It was a strangely fitting word for the events that were to come in the following day.

The miko dress fit the faunus rather awkwardly, slightly large in the chest and the hips, but still well enough to wear. She could probably make the proper adjustments herself with a little time. Right now, it was her duty to see her new ally off. Amber led the group to the gates of Atlas and watched them float off a pair of clouds. It was easily said that she had never seen anything more ridiculous than that, but a way, that made it pretty cool. It suited Amaterasu’s style.

Once they were out of view, Amber heaved a sigh and walked back into the city. There was still quite a bit of work to be done before this city could truly thrive. It was her mission as a Prime to see it through to the end - to watch this humble, frozen town become a beacon of hope in a cold, unforgiving land. Her thoughts came back to the giant, red crystal she found in the mine. A power source. After all, Dust is raw energy harnessed into a physical form. It was just as much extractable Omnilium was here in the Omniverse.

Amber walked back to the underground base, into the lower levels where her vault was. Though still unfortified, it housed the familiar crystal she had obtained in the desert land. Still a withering experience for her, even if did open her eyes to bigger concepts. She fooled with the communicator on her wrist, offering access to Atlas’s communication network. Her voice echoed through the walls off the city.

”Attention all residents and visitors to Atlas: We are updating or power grid. The electricity will be out for a few minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you.” She announced, and seconds later, after turning a flashlight on, she yanked the Chaos Emerald from the console. It took a few minutes to re-summon the giant crystal of Dust, but it eventually found it’s new home in the power console. The lights flickered momentarily before running as normal functioned.

”Our update is complete, thank you for you patience and have a nice day.” She announced again to confirm her success. Once she was sure everything was functioning the way it should, she left the vault room and locked it.

The faunus glanced down at the magical artifact in her hand, wondering what kind of powers it actually held. It looked like a well-cut dust crystal, but didn’t have that kind of power. It resonated some kind of aura in strength, yet not like that of anything she’s ever seen before. It was otherworldly, like much of the things people could find in the Omniverse.

A voice drew her back into reality, the deep, yet soft, voice of Murasaki.

“Hey, Amber. Good job today- What are you wearing?” He asked with a cocked eyebrow, but a hint of interest.

“Amaterasu made this for me! Isn’t it cool?” She asked him, spinning around to show off the outfit.

“Y-Yeah, pretty cool.” He replied with a redface. “So, listen. I was wondering if you wanted to train.”

“Uh, yeah sure. Let’s do it.” The faunus replied enthusiastically replied. “Hey, you should teach me to use one of those thin swords like yours!”

“You mean a katana? You told me you hate these swords.” He said pulling out his blade from the sheath. He held it so she could see it better.

“Perhaps with a few adjustments of my own, it could become useable. I’ve been thinking I need not only mature my mind, but my body as well. I understand my fighting style has weaknesses that are easily exploited and if I cannot prevent them, I would like to have an alternate means of combat to level the playing field.”

“Smart, and admirable. I think the Omniverse might be changing you for the better Amber. Then,” He spoke, throwing his blade at her. “Let’s fight.”

  Joining: Asura
Posted by: Asura - 05-13-2018, 01:42 AM - Forum: Joining - Replies (5)

CHARACTER NAME: Asura

CHARACTER SOURCE: Asura's Wrath

CHARACTER HISTORY:

Asura, a Demigod who despises his title. A man who spits in the face of the concept of gods, and praying. A father that just wants the best for his family. Some of his happiest memories are with his wife, Durga, and daughter, Mithra. Shame he couldn't keep making them, as he was framed for murder by his allies, the rest of the 8 Guardian Generals of which he was one, had his wife murdered, and his daughter kidnapped. Then, just to rub salt in the wound, he was murdered and dropped from who knows how high, after he swore his vengeance.

This physical embodiment of wrath came back 12,000 years later, spurred on by a mysterious Golden Spider, his memories fractured, the only thing guiding him being a searing rage he could not yet explain. As he explored the broken world, he quickly found the first of one of his betrayers, Wyzen, of the newly rebranded Seven Dieties. Asura defeated Wyzen, and quickly regained his memories in the fight. Afterwords he was slain by his Brother in Law, Yasha, another of the Seven Dieties.

After another 700 years, he returned, and slowly forged a bond with a girl who had an eery resemblance to his daughter Mithra. Her life was short lived, as she was murdered by the Seven Deities, alongside her entire village. It turns out that the Seven Deities get their power by converting human souls, through his daughter's power. It physically hurt her, and she was suffering. Upon the girl's death, Asura learned his power was too great for his body, as he went on a horrible rampage, destroying all Gohma and Demi-Gods.

Ironically, it was Yasha, who was brought to his senses by seeing Asura's great strength, brought Asura to his. Together, the two defeated Deus, the final of the Seven Deities at this stage. And then they defeated Vlitra, the will of the planet, and the source of Gohma. He had won.

Or so he thought. There was one loose thread. The Golden Spider. It turned out, he was the cause of the 12,000 years of suffering. He used Mithra as a Vessel, and introduced himself as Chakravartin, the God that created Gaea, and the cause of the world's suffering. All of it was a test, to find his successor. And his successor, was to be Asura. Naturally, Asura refused, and attempted to do battle with Chakravartin. He didn't stand a chance. His rage was too wild, his power to chaotic, as it threatened to tear him apart. Hee and Yasha were forced to retreat, and in doing so Asura was knocked unconscious.

Yasha was the first to come too, and he did something unexpected. He sacrificed himself to give Asura a means to control his power. The greatest creation of the Seven Deities, the Mantra Reactor. The two had a heated battle, Yasha feigning to want to prove he was better than Asura, so that his body could acclimate. It was only when Yasha knew Asura could now control his power, did he allow himself to die, as Asura gave him a fist bump, honoring his Brother in Law, and Brother in Arms. hi

Yasha's sacrifice given, Asura did battle with Chakravartin once more, ascending to his greatest form. Asura, the Destructor. It was a battle of Creation, versus Destruction. God versus Man. Father of All, versus Father of One. Asura came close to death many times over, but in the end, his will, and his Wrath, won the day, and saved Mithra. Chakravartin was beaten, and as he was going to finish the god off, Mithra gave him a warning, that if he killed Chakravartin, he too, would Perish.

The choice was simple. "But... You would still live." That was all he cared about. His own life meant nothing, before the happiness and survival of his own daughter. He landed the final blow, finally understanding the true meaning of his wrath, and happily accepted the end of his life. For his was a life well lived... And in the end, he saw his daughter smile one last time. Little did he know... His story was not yet over. Another has now seen fit to extend his life, in another world. And with his life returning, so too, has his Wrath.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Roughly 6'5".

STATS:
ATK: 3
DEF: 4
SPD: 1
TEC: 2

STARTING PROFICIENCIES: Physical Strength, 1000. Ranged Proficiency, 1000.

STARTING POWERS: Super Speed, 1000. Super Jumping, Basic. 300 Master Acrobat, 400.

STARTING MOVES: Mantra Burst, 300: Asura's rage reaches a boiling point, and he unleashes a Mantra fueled strike upon a downed opponent. While this gives him massive damage output for 1-2 strikes, his limbs overheat and must be allowed to cool down afterwords, lest he risk them being destroyed. This cooldown takes a solid 15 seconds. His body just can't handle as much as it used to. Should he continue to attack normally during this cooldown, his strikes are noticeably weakened, and his limbs are more brittle than normal. Strike his limbs during this time, and you might just get one of his arms off him for your troubles.

Mantra Blasts, 600. Asura can fire Mantra from his body in a few different manners. The first is as a rapid fire projectile, which he creates by punching the air. These projectiles move at the speed of bullet, and are the same size as his fist to his forearm. These blasts vanish after 25 meters. He can also eject them as a short range shotgun type blast, however he can not rapid fire this version, due toe larger amount of Mantra he's ejecting at once. This fires 6 shots that evaporate roughly 5 meters away from him. It can only be used every 2-3 seconds.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

Erik awoke to the rising sun on his face, a buzzing sound in his mind alerting him that he had a message. He flicked his wrist and a wisp of psi snaked from his sleeve, forming a small, flat screen tinged with purple. He had received instructions from Victor to go ahead without him. The psychic honestly wasn't sure whether this was a good thing or a bad thing, but was glad that he wasn't going to need to worry about being assaulted anymore.

“Southern accent?” Erik mused to himself. He was sure that his idea of a southern accent and Victor’s would be very different, but he had no idea what to look for. The psychic decided to simply advertise that he was looking for a southern accent and hope that everyone else knew what it was. The first thing he needed was somewhere to record. He stretched sleepily as he got out of his chair, loosening his stiff back and neck. Maybe sleeping at a table in the bazaar wasn't the greatest idea, but he didn't regret it. Despite the stiffness, this was the freshest he had felt in what felt like months.

“Where do you record radio?” Erik wondered as he got to his feet, calling up his psi screen again. A quick search revealed that radio was recorded in a recording studio.

“I could have guessed that.” Erik muttered as he brought up images of recording studios, nodding to himself as an image formed in his mind. Confident that he could summon one up, Erik left the bazaar and searched for a vacant building near the palace. It took a surprisingly long time to find one, most buildings having been claimed by loyal citizens wanting to be closer to their King. Despite the extra time it took him, Erik couldn't help but feel happy about the current state of the city. Finally, Erik spotted a building whose roof had caved in, rendering it uninhabitable. Unless one was a prime, of course. Erik summoned up his orb of omnillium and set to work, the rainbow substance enveloping the decrepit building like a huge, sparkling amoeba.

After a solid amount of time, the recording studio was finished. Erik released a heavy breath as he entered the new building. The summoning had taken more out of him than he had expected, the freshness he had felt earlier was nearly gone already. Pushing the glass double doors open, the psychic entered an immaculate foyer, although it was little more than a front desk and a few chairs and tables. Erik had intended to supply magazines for people to read while they waited, but doubted many people would want to read ‘Eldritch horror weekly’, sadly. He resolved to find something people would want to read as he pushed into the next room.

The next room was the actual studio, although it was split into two smaller rooms, divided by a soundproof glass window. Erik looked over the switchboard on his side of the window, slightly intimidated by the machine. The recording booth was mostly empty, barring the soundproof padding and microphone. Satisfied with his work, Erik summoned up his omnillium once more. Channeling the rainbow substance, the psychic formed a stack of flyers, a number of nails, and a hammer. The flyers read;

“New Babylon radio hiring.

We need loyal citizens to become the voice of the glorious King Gilgamesh and spread his word throughout Nippur. Come to the recording studio near the palace to apply. Southern accents preferable.”

Grabbing his flyers and tools, Erik left the studio and went around Nippur, nailing a flyer wherever he thought people would see it. He placed the most around the palace, although he didn't actually place any on the palace for fear of damaging the glorious building. Once he had placed the last flyer, the psychic made his way back to the recording studio. To his surprise, a number of people were already waiting for their auditions.

“Curses.” Erik muttered under his breath. “I didn't get to summon anything for them to read. Pushing his way into the studio, Erik called to the closest applicant. “Come with me.”

The man followed Erik, before entering the recording booth and putting on headphones. Erik quickly summoned up a piece of paper for the man to read from and handed it to him.  The psychic followed suit and put on the headphones as the man started speaking.

“Good morning, New Babylon. The King has released an announcement that the bandit lord Baron Deathchew and his underlings have been slain. Looks like we can all sleep a little easier at night now that our chances of getting eaten alive have dropped at least 60%.”

Erik considered the man’s voice for a moment. It wasn't bad, by any means, but it lacked the strength Erik thought someone announcing the good word of the King should have. The psychic thanked the man for his time and called in the next applicant. After a few more ordinary performances, a man walked in with one of the strangest appearances, for a secondary, at least, that Erik had seen in a long time. The man was around 50 and on the fatter side, with a large, bushy moustache. He wore a spotless white polo-shirt and pants over his bulky form, with a matching white 10 gallon hat.

“How are ya’ doin’?” He asked in a thick southern twang, snapping Erik from his stupor. He obviously knew that Erik was staring at his outfit, but wore a wry smile on his face, rather than look upset.

“Uh, good, thank you.” The psychic replied as he showed the man into the recording booth. The cowboy-hatted man cleared his throat as he settled in, donned the headphones, without removing his hat, and started reading. His voice was deep and smooth, but had a powerful undertone to it that the last few applicants had been missing. Erik didn't even know what the old west was, yet he felt like he was there when he listened to the cowboy(?) before him.

“Well, how was I?” The man said as he stepped out of the recording booth.

“That was fantastic.” Erik said in awe. “What's your name?”

The man chuckled at the compliment. “Thank ye’, son. Name’s Bill, but most people call me Big Bill.”

“Why is that?”

“On account of my large cowboy hat. Why d’ya think?” Both men chuckled for a moment, before Erik caught something in the corner of his eye and turned around to see something strange. A large pile of sand, bigger than a person, was piled in the back corner of the studio.

“That wasn't there before.” Erik said, confused.

“So, you finally noticed!” A slightly muffled voice boomed from beneath the pile of sand. To Erik’s astonishment, a man rose up from beneath the sand, looking even stranger than Big Bill. Despite his powerful voice, commanding and tinged with a slight hard to place, but commanding, accent, the man was not the visage of a proud warrior that should bear such a voice. Instead, he was dressing entirely in sand coloured clothing, with a small cape of feathers hanging from his collar. He wore a similarly coloured bandana and, most bizarrely, a pair of glowing green goggles. The man laughed heartily at the shock of the pair, his ponytail bobbing with his exaggerated movements.

“Hello, Erik Vrell! And goodbye!” As he finished the last word, he produced a dagger from within his patchwork clothing and tossed it at Erik. The psychic prepared himself to pluck it out of the air with his telekinesis, but didn't have to. The dagger landed handle first on the table, more than a metre from where Erik was standing.

“A stunning dodge, clearly you are a worthy opponent!” The bandit said while crossing his arms and nodding sagely, as if he was a philosopher solving the meaning of life.

“Who are you?” Erik demanded as he drew Mageslayer.

“My name is Sand Hawk, bandit lord of the flying viper clan, and I have come to prevent you from spreading the word of Gilgamesh to the people of this city, in the memory of my fallen-”

“Stop it with the run on sentences!” Erik cried. The bandit was starting to give him a headache.

“Never!” Sand Hawk exclaimed, forming his hand into a fist as he did so. “Sand Hawk only runs on, he never runs off!”

Before the bandit could utter another word, Big Bill drew a revolver and shot him in the shoulder.

“Ah, shit! Sand Hawk will run off, just this once, but we will meet again, Erik Vrell!” The bandit lord announced before dashing out the door, gripping his shoulder. The psychic sighed as he rubbed his forehead.

“Thank you, Bill.” Erik said as he sat down. “You’ve basically got the job. I'll call you tomorrow, probably, but you won't have to work until all the preparation is done.”

“Thank ye’ kindly.” Big Bill said as he doffed his hat to Erik. “See ya’ around.”

Erik buried his face in his hands for a moment, wishing he could just take a nap to recover from the most exhausting five minutes of his life. After a few minutes of getting it together, Erik called out to those waiting in the foyer.

“Next!”

The door creaked open and a familiar sand-coloured bandit entered the room.

“We meet again, Erik Vrell!” Sand Hawk announced proudly as he strode in, sounding as if Erik had walked into his trap.

“LEAVE!” Erik roared, his eyes flaring up with psychic energy.

“Okay, but only because I've got place to be, not because you told me to!” Sand Hawk replied as he spun around and strode back out the door. Erik almost sobbed as he groaned to himself. Cleaning up that sand could take hours. At least it was better than Victor’s lewd remarks…

“Next!”

For almost two years, Mickey Mouse had been in hiding. Stowed away in an idyllic corner of the Vasty Deep, not a thing dared to bother him. Contrary to the beliefs of the Omniverse at large, everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic rodent had not been gone forever. He’d been asleep, and now the multiverse’s most optimistic hero, with the biggest, most impressive ears, was back in business. He was awake.

* * *

A few months back...

Discovered. Oh, brother.

Mickey Mouse leapt from palm tree to palm tree, moving faster than he could remember moving in years. In this moment, he regretted not agreeing to do P90X with Nani. Their sabbatical from heroism of any kind had transformed into a sort of lazy holiday, and as danger forced him back into action, he couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that he would be very, very sore tomorrow.

He sped down the mountain towards Lilo and Nani’s cottage which had abruptly gone up in smoke minutes before unwanted visitors had barged into their own hut. “Go — get the girls,” Minnie had ordered as a squad of Stormtroopers burst through the doors, blaster rifle trained on the lion that stood guard. Simba let out a ferocious roar, knocking the troopers back, and before his wife had finished summoning her scepter the king has leapt through the window and begun his descent.

The distance between their two homes wasn’t far, so even a little wearied Mickey burst forth from the beachy brush within minutes. He landed squarely in the sand in front of the combusting hovel, where two troopers stood, seemingly awaiting his arrival, and two more hurriedly carried a large metal container towards their ship, docked nearby.

Mickey’s ears perked up enough to hear a clanging sound and a low growl coming from inside the box that he recognized rather quickly as the sounds of Stitch, Lilo’s strange pet. He screeched and rattled, giving his captors enough trouble to frustrate them, but the cage’s defenses kept him soundly at bay. The stormtroopers loaded the alien up onto the barge just as the fires swelled at the small abode.

His eyes darted back and forth between the boat and the house. He scowled, and his hairline furrowed with frustration. Rescue Stitch from the clutches of the Empire, or save Lilo and Nani from a fiery doom. Both didn’t seem feasible.

One of the stormtroopers standing in front of the burning house whipped out a long, electrically charged staff and lowered himself into a fighting stance. The other raised his blaster rifle and trained it at the mouse’s head. Mickey took one last look at Stitch’s captors as they shuffled him onto the lower levels of the barge.

I’ll come and get you, buddy, he thought as his keyblade materialized in one of his gloved hands. He clamped his fingers down on the hilt and bent at the knees, sliding into his own combat posture. It struck him that he hadn’t fought—not really, anyway—since he’d broken free of Jafar and some New Babylonian remnants all those years ago, in Nippur. He took a deep breath. Time to shake the rust off.

The rifle-bearing trooper began firing off energy blasts, and one by one Mickey batted them away, keeping his eyes fixed on the other trooper beginning his own, foolhardy sprint toward the king.

“Hey, batter batter, hey batter batter, hey!” Mickey shouted with a grin, winding back and hitting yet another energy blast with his keyblade. The bolt deflected away from him and right into the weapon hand of the staff-bearing trooper, who yelped and released the staff into the air.

It spun through the air at an accelerated pace, flying over the beach and splashing into the ocean. “Home run!” Mickey yelled, delightedly. “That was aweso—ugh!”

Just as his fancy baton had crashed into the ocean blue, the staff-wielding trooper flung himself—singed hand and all—into the mouse, knocking him back onto the sand and attempting to pin him there. Mickey struggled against the stormtrooper’s grip as his comrade jogged up behind him and aimed his rifle. Dangit, the mouse scowled. How’d he let himself get in this position?

How’d he let these losers find him? For a very long time, he and Minnie and Simba had lived in peaceful solitude, only the young Hawaiian girls and Stitch to keep them company. Months into their tenure on this uncharted island in the Vasty Deeps, Proto Man—Mickey’s best friend since inexplicably entering the Omniverse—had washed up on the beach, and they’d lived for a while as one big happy family.

Slowly, that illusion had been shattered, bit by bit. Being in hiding wasn’t the type of state someone could be in forever, and Mickey certainly had grown antsy in their time away from the world. Not only did the ever present threat of the Heartless in his home universe tug at the back of his mind, but he had witnessed so many unspeakable atrocities since arriving here. Could he really sit by and watch as Karl Jak and his Syntech goons coerced primes, year after year, into their sadistic death match? Could he sit by while the Empire’s grip on the Omniverse tightened, their outposts in the Deep and the Endless Dunes growing stronger each day? He and Proto Man had banished Gilgamesh, but Nippur still sat as a seat of corruption. And he harbored a sinking feeling that sending the King of Heroes to the Underverse wasn’t the last they’d heard of him.

Proto Man’s disappearance only magnified these thoughts. He’d left not long ago, under the auspices of attending a nearby carnival, and never returned. A bad feeling crept up Mickey’s spine after that — that somewhere nearby, something went wrong, and Blues had been forced to fight it without him. He couldn’t bear that idea, and many times had attempted to leave their small, secluded corner of this archipelago to find out why his buddy had yet to come home. His wife wasn’t having it.

“Blues can handle himself,” she’d say. “If he wanted your help, he’d call you on the communicator. Whatever it is, he must not need you to beat it.” And if he hadn’t felt useless before, that pretty much put the nail in the proverbial coffin. He wasn’t needed. Maybe Blues didn’t even want him fighting evildoers by his side anymore. Maybe he’d thought a year plus of retirement weakened the mouse, and at the moment, Mickey was inclined to agree. Pinned on the ground by an effectively one-handed stormtrooper, and staring a blaster rifle—and an embarrassing trip to the Nexus—in the face. Had he really been out of the game so long that he couldn’t defeat two of the Empire’s weakest goons? Was he really about to die at the hands of some nameless secondaries?

Thankfully, the answer to the second question was ‘no.’

A deafening roar called the rifle trooper’s attention away. Simba leapt through the air, tackling the trooper to the ground, and Mickey took that moment of distraction to shove his yellow shoe as hard as he could muster into the other trooper’s nads. Through the mask, the trooper let out a garbled, mechanized moan, and rolled off the mouse, clutching his… uh, well, his private area. Mickey leapt up in time to catch Simba lifting a paw and extending his claws for a killing blow.

“Lieutenant!” he called out to his subordinate, “We don’t kill.”

“But your majesty—”

“We don’t kill. Keep them busy, I’m getting the girls!”

And with that, Mickey Mouse sprinted into the flaming hut, dodging burning rubble this way and that as he weaved toward the muffled cries of Nani and Lilo. Luckily, their small hut wasn’t too big, so it didn’t take long for the mouse to stumble on them, huddled low to the ground and trying their best not to breathe in any of the foul, smoky air.

Lilo cowered in Nani’s arms, her long pink dress scorched a bit at the ends and her eyes dripping with tears, probably over Stitch’s disappearance. She had always been the stronger sister, but no little girl should have to endure all this terror in the span of fifteen minutes. Nani, for her part, looked paler than normal, but had steeled her face, using her own body to shield her sister from the flames. They lapped at the older girl’s bare legs, and as Mickey ducked beneath one last burning beam to enter the room they hid in, he heard some not-nice words spill out of Nani’s mouth. Normally, he might’ve scolded her for the language—but under the circumstances, he let it slide.

“Oh, hey, buddies,” he smiled as he found them, “Let’s getcha out of here, okey-dokey?”

“Your Majesty!” Nani exclaimed, breathing a sigh of relief that she immediately regretted and coughed back up. “We—excuse me—we were worried they’d gotten to you guys.”

“Some measly troopers are no match for me and Minnie,” Mickey smiled, though he didn’t really know if he believed himself when he said it.

“Where’s Stitch?” Lilo piped in, breaking slightly free of her sister’s grasp and scramble-crawling to the mouse king’s feet. “Is he okay?”

Mickey’s expression bunched up. Outside, he heard the whirrs of the motor boat as it kicked into action. “He’ll be fine,” Mickey loosely promised, marking it on his mental to-do-list to prioritize Stitch’s rescue and safe return to the innocent Hawaiian girl. “Let’s get you guys out of here for right now.” He turned and aimed his keyblade at the roof, drawing a heart in the air and then launching a huge, golden beam of light upwards.

The energy beam smashed through the roof, sending planks of broken, burnt wood and clumps of the thatched roof flying in many different directions. Smoke billowed through the hole, and Mickey stuck two of his gloved fingers in his mouth and whistled for assistance. “Come on, grab my hands,” he ordered the girls, dissolving his keyblade and offering up two gloved palms. Nani and Lilo complied, and Mickey leapt towards the hole in the roof. Mickey would never have counted jumping amongst his skills, but they passed the hole’s threshold nonetheless, and just as they began to plummet back down, a dusty old magic carpet whizzed underneath them and came to a sudden stop. Mickey, Lilo, and Nani landed with a thud on the rug, and before they had time to catch their breath, it zipped away.

The carpet carried its three passengers away from the burning hovel and over toward the beach. Reaching that destination, though, had never been part of Mickey’s plan. They soared over the pair of stormtroopers scuffling with Simba, and the mouse king summoned his keyblade once again. He flipped off the magic carpet and sailed down toward the action, landing on the shoulders of one of the troopers. “—what the?!” the trooper shouted, glancing up and down as it tried to swat the mouse off his shoulders. Mickey quickly shut him up, placing the keyblade against the man’s neck and pulling it tight, trapping the trooper in a chokehold.

Simba turned, the enemy underneath him now sufficiently frightened into unconsciousness, and watched as his king grappled the stormtrooper’s neck with his weapon. The trooper fought back, and soon, Mickey lost his balance, his stubby legs sliding off the guy’s shoulders. He swung around wildly, holding on merely by the keyblade as the soldier tried to wrestle himself free. Simba blinked for a second at the king’s struggles, and then let out another ear-piercing roar. The trooper’s grip on the keyblade suffocating him loosened and, as much as he could with his throat under pressure, he let out a shout, stumbling away from the lion and tripping backwards.

With Mickey Mouse still attached to him, he fell onto his back, the little mouse’s body cushioning the fall. His armored form crashed into the small-figured rodent and within seconds, Mickey’s sight went black. If he’d still been awake, the mouse king might’ve sighed at how pathetic he felt. As it was, he’d been soundly smacked into unconsciousness.

Oh, brother, indeed.

Dax,

My buddy, partner in crime and my friend.

You've seen both the best and worst of me that I've got to offer.

Why when you see the monster in me, you still see me as a hero...

I've looked at my own reflection so many times and cannot stand to look at myself, almost to the point of breaking the glass to run away.

But all I see in my dreams, is so many people that support me.

Yet.. you still keep coming back for me, Dax.

Thank you

Thank you for everything.

  Fight Area Reveals
Posted by: Karl Jak - 05-12-2018, 10:03 AM - Forum: Dante's Abyss Junkyard - Replies (30)

As we get closer to the event (pre-registration is under a week away), I'll periodically release information on the various 'Fight Areas', along with any bonus 'Stipulations' they might include.  Likely one, maybe two per day, but we'll see.  I'm not sure how many Fight Areas I'll ultimately make (I imagine some will be used more than once in the event, so that I don't have to try and think up like... 60 of them).

#hypetrain, naturally

Here's the first two.
“Dante’s Abyss: Budokai” – Both teams are transported into an empty, Eastern-style tournament ground.  There is an elevated stone platform surrounded by a short brick barrier that would normally keep the crowd away from the central platform.  North of the platform is an ornate brick wall with some eastern-style monsters and an archway. The backdrop is also filled with mountains and pretty trees, but the limits of the fight zone terminate just beyond this archway and just beyond the brick audience barriers.  The fight itself takes place on this platform, for a lovely dose of 'up close and personal' (apologies to you range fanatics).

Stipulation:  Fighters will battle until both members of one team have been thrown to the ground outside the platform (writers may obviously not roleplay eliminating their foes as that will be saved for the end post)

The Clinic – The fight zone is roughly 2 by 2 acres.  From the edges of the Fight Area, the terrain gradually slopes upward, with a couple of trees here and there.  You’ll notice that it looks like a war has been fought here, because the ground is blown to hell and there are still splotches of dried blood here and there.  At the top of this hill is the remains of a humble clinic building.  For all intents and purposes, it looks like a stone clinic that a developed country would go build in a third-world nation, but the places has seen better days.  Its windows are blown apart, and the inside is something out of a horror movie.  Dried blood decorates most surfaces that haven’t been partially melted or scarred by explosives, although there are no bodies present.  It’s all very unnerving.

Stipulation:  No special stipulations

Posted by: Desman Black - 05-11-2018, 10:51 PM - Forum: The Void - No Replies

Desman entered the black space, the lines of white rushing across his vision as they spread along the landscape as far as the eye could see. Which could have been quite far or short, there was no depth to the place, just the endless black and grey that made up the ground. At least this time he could move in it, not that it mattered that much when you had no idea how to get around.

After 15 mins he found out the lines change behind him. 40 mins in and he founds out turning is not a good idea. 78 mins, he founds out going completely straight is not a good idea. 81, he figures out it’s easier to ‘keep track of’ where you are going if you follow the lines. 120, he starts getting super worried about not seeing ash again. 140, Desman gets so much in a panic he goes off to find Ash without any thought to his previous observations. 155, It was a bad idea.

‘Okay, take it easy, you can find her after escaping. Knowing her she has probably gone to Coruscant, so check there first. After that, it’s the hotel. Then… fuck this easier if I just had her phone number.’ For awhile Desman starting staring up at the sky as he thought until get remembered his eyes need to stay on the lines. ‘Why don’t I have her number… is it because I didn’t give her mine? F*ck, I didn’t give her mine.’

Desman needed something to distract him before the metal kicks turned into physical ones. ‘I wonder what these lines are made of...’

‘Well, that was a waste of time.’ The robot thought to himself, not being able to find any way to access the origin of the white, especially with his elemental attacks not working… how does the energy of the universe simply not exist like that, the more Desman thought of this place the more it made no logical sense.

Neither did some of the stuff that resided here, one of them being a black inkish abomination, parts of its body floating in the air with seemingly no illusion of gravity, parts of a malformed skeleton clearly shown in the places, no way he was getting near that thing, especially with no powers, he was just relieved he didn’t see him.

He was also relieved when he saw a massive light in the distance… until he then realised that it was just a massive gathering of ley lines… fuck you Omniverse.

How long has it been since Desman started walking? He couldn’t tell you. But it was boring, the most interesting thing was a white dot in the sky he swears he could see, but that could’ve just been him seeing things, or him going crazy, maybe there isn’t a difference. Actually, there probably is, if he was to go crazy not would have been ages ago.

While his thoughts wandered, Desman lost track of his surroundings. Only realizing this as the white lines disappeared from his eyesight.

Only an idiot or a maniac would travel this far into the darkness. If Desman thought about it he could probably label himself as both… in some sense of the word.

It’s been hours since he had started walking back the way he came, it couldn’t have been that long the first time, could it? Or was his mind just making it seem longer? God how he hated this, maybe he should rest and just wait for Ash to wander along.

…
What is the point of that, it’s been a month, she had probably escaped by now, he should be focusing on doing that himself.

That’s when one of the lines finally decided to appear. In less time then Desman could comprehend a small dot of light rose from the surface, a wall suddenly appearing to the sides of it, which the redhead immediately bumped into.

“Ahh… What was…” A soreness spread across Desman’s head as he stood up, the line no longer directly in front of him, but still coming from his feet. Turning around to look at the new black wall confirmed his suspicions. “Of course there’s gravity manipulation here…’

One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-One…. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-Two…. One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-Three…. Desman wasn’t sure how long he had been counting for. Well, obviously it was since One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-Three steps ago, but how much seconds, minutes, hours, d… well, probably not days. No human could walk days none stop. Wait, that’s not exactly true… there was that guy that got the world record for walking non-stop for 50 hours…
Well, Desman still highly doubted he could do it, especially since he hasn’t been in a human body for… 3, 4 years? How did he keep it up in the underverse so long… maybe he should rest… just for awhile…

*hah, hah, hah* Desman’s breath was as rabid as the waking was sudden, maybe it would be better if he didn't sleep. As he toyed with the idea of making a device that allowed the human body to function properly without sleep, another one of those white lines appeared to guide him somewhere, passing under him before turning left right in front of him.

The male brushed himself off before nonchalantly walking in the direction it had traveled, the end of the leyline no longer visible with all its fast movement, and all its twists and turns.

Right, right, left, right, left, left, right, left, left, left, left. And then, nothing, just an approximate 30 steps forward and the line ended, just like that.

Why did he start following these lines to begin with? Oh yeah, they were the best way to ‘know’ where you were. Not that it help much, especially with the line stopping dead.

Wait, no, behind the end of the line it’s a different colour, it looks like it could be a cliff. Moving further towards the edge proved it to be an ledge, Desman carefully planting his foot on the ‘wall’ and walking down.
