The Final Fantasy Thread
Posted by: Miranda Frost - 10-05-2015, 02:58 PM - Forum: The Arcade - Replies (10)

Though there are a lot of mysteries and topics surrounding Square Enix's flagship franchise, let this thread be the place you fans can go to discuss, rant (to a point), and compare the series. I have played the majority of the main series (excluding xi and the original xiv), so the series holds a snug place in my heart for all of its glory and shortcomings over the year.

In the main series, Nobou Uematsu is the one responsible for composing the series' beautiful music. As many of you know, i work at a retro video game store. When one comes in to shop here while I'm on the job, they can almost expect to hear some of my favorite soundtracks, Final fantasy including. Watching the staff roll to this one compilation, I couldn't help feel a sense of nostalgia and share it with you guys.

(I couldn't get the video right at the point i wanted to share. Its around 1:20:43

This is Not the World You Know
Posted by: Bandit With No Name - 10-05-2015, 10:54 AM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (1)

The red sun glared at her in her vision, in her mind. She felt its warmth, its hate. It was the center of her universe; it was her father and her mother. It watched her from the skies of the desert, unblinking, uncaring, unending but for the bitter cold of the night.

“My name is Omni,” the voice said, the silence of death suddenly split. She opened her eyes, finding only a void of blackness around her, a glowing white being grinning at her.

Blinking hard, the bandit slowly brought her hands up in front of her face. They were clean, none of the blood of the fight staining them. “Omni? Seriously? Am I dead?” she asked, her feeble voice echoing into the expanse. “Why... why am I still-”

“This is not the world you know,” the god-like being interrupted her. “This is the Omniverse.”

Perplexed, the bandit’s eyebrows cinched and she looked back and forth. “I… I know what the Omniverse is. I’m from the Omniverse. I’m a native. I mean, I’ve never been exactly here, but-“

“You interest me, so I have made you part of it,” Omni continued, seemingly uninterested or unable to hear her. The woman simply stared at the omniscient being, confusion overtaking her desire to speak.

Omni’s grinning mouth gabbed on, heedless of anything but her presence. “The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

“Like, are there rules I don’t know yet?” she snapped. “Omni, I don’t think you’re listening to me, but like, seriously, what the fuck is going on?”

The being created shimmering, scintillating sphere of prismatic colors and offered it to the bandit, who reluctantly took it from his hand with a single eyebrow up incredulously. “This is Omnilium.”

The bandit blinked hard. “Motherfucker I know what Omnilium is.”

“It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours.” Finally, the creature said something of interest to her.

Her heart jumped when the possibility fell upon her, and she couldn’t help but to notice her hands were trembling. “Does that mea-“

“But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.”

A tear welled up in her eye as she tried to force back the wave of emotion that crashed into and over her. “Am I a Prime?” she sobbed, her voice thick. Her face tingled, her heart throbbed.

“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium.”

It felt like her ribs were twisting into themselves, and she clutched at them as she listened with no more witty comebacks to spit back in her savior’s face.

”Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.”

With every sentence, Omni released her from another fear, lifted the weight of anger and bitter resentment that she had held towards every Prime she had ever met.

Her body curled into itself as she took choppy, labored gulps of air, streams tumbling from her eyes and into the void around her. Heavy, weighted sobs choked her, her hair tumbling around her as she fell to her knees. She gasped, finally able to take a breath and fill her lungs. Looking up to the creature, the diety, the woman shook her head. “Why?” she asked, “Why me?”

“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

The grinning god smiled gazed down upon her without eyes, his radiance as bright as the sun.

She stared up at him, face wet and breathless.

“Thank you.”

The blackness crashed down as Omni’s brilliance exploded outwards in every direction, whiteness washing out until it became every horizon around her. It was almost impossible to discern the floor from the sky, though she questioned if there truly were such distinctions where she now sat. The dull silence was slowly filled with the sound of water falling into a pool, a gentle mist falling down upon her naked back.

She sat there for a moment, naked and alone amid the field of white, and breathed. When she had the courage, she closed her eyes, cleared her thoughts, and focused. When she was finished, she opened her eyes and stood.

Sand tumbled off of her stained armor and clothing, her mind unable to visualize her clothing without a dense layer of sand. She flexed her hands, the metal of her gauntlets familiar, almost strangely so. She looked down, seeing the small hole in the chest of the white shirt she wore, a long, dark-red stain flowing down from around it. She couldn’t help but smile.

She reached down into her pocket and found a circular, flat tin and pulled it free. Slowly, carefully, she twisted the worn edges of the lid, revealing a thick white grease paint beneath it. Another broad smile washed over her features as she scooped up a thick dollop. She smeared the grease over her face with a few practiced strokes, and once again a bleach-white skull was painted over her features.

Closing and replacing the tin, she took a deep breath and exhaled, her nerves slowly calming themselves. She turned around, only then allowing her curiosity to take over. The rushing water had been falling from the spout of a tall fountain that was situated at the peak of a tall, white statue. A woman in some sort of robes looked up to the sky woefully, her hands bought up to her face, but not quite touching it. The water poured from her eyes and the folds of her robes, lines of green-tinted rust tracing the lines of her tears. Around her feet at the base of the fountain, majestic golden tiles were patterned in complex geometric shapes, a few glimmering coins settled in the pool atop the tiles.

Holding her hand out, the bandit materialized a small glimmering sphere of omnilium. She concentrated and the form flattened out, and its glimmering light slowly died down as it solidified. She grasped the large half-dollar with her index finger and thumb, tilting it back and forth.

She looked back to the weeping woman, wondering who she was or what stories she had. In the end, she was just another woman without a name. The bandit repositioned the half-dollar on her thumb, flicked the coin and watched it and it flip in a tall arc before plunking into the basin, swooping back and forth until it settled.

Intercepted Imperial Transmssion

Major Bardan Jaxx was detained earlier today for an attempted breach of security at Imperial Intelligence on Tier 1. Sources indicate that he acted alone and was not able to penetrate the buildings secure network. Jaxx was a soldier for the 9th Ranger Battalion in the Imperial Military. Major Bardan Jaxx of the 9th Ranger Battalion saluted Commander November Terra of the 72nd Special Forces Regiment and placed a hand on her shoulder. Nova saluted the ranger standing before her and turned to board the drop ship back to headquarters.

“She’ll turn up, Commander.” Jaxx said as the sliding door of the transport shut.

The repulsor engines kicked into gear and the aircraft lifted off the ground. A Special Forces medic began removing the damaged pieces of Terra’s gear and attending to her wounds. As she laid down on a cot an attending nurse inserted a needle for an intravenous bag into her arm.

“Five minutes to HQ Medical.” The pilot yelled back.

Nova didn’t know how she was going to face the Colonel.

***

It had been two weeks since she had given her report to Colonel Morrigan. Trixie’s leftover equipment had been moved into the storage locker in the armory. The one thing from the mission that remained was Falkner’s blue lightsaber; she had kept it as a moment. November had tied her hair into a tight pony tail. It was draped over her right shoulder as she did push ups in the gym of her giant Tier 2 apartment. Pushing up on one arm she immediately switched to the opposite and lowered herself to the ground. She wore a black sports bra sporting the Imperial logo on the back, tight black spandex gym shorts with a white line down the thigh, and a pair of white running shoes. Around the blonde snipers neck were her dog tags that listed her name and service number. Sweat dripped from her chin to the floor and had begun to puddle beneath her.

Nova’s gaze was locked on the mirror in front of her, staring in disgust at herself. She had grown tired of losing squad members in the field. Her immediate expertise in combat was long range sniping and stealth operations. She may be the leader of the uni, but Terra felt that it was her lack of extra training that led to Trixie’s banishment. As she lowered herself to the floor a loud buzzer rang throughout the gym. Nova sprang to her feet and slid her fingers under the hilt of the vibrosword lying next to her. She brought it up to bare and slid on her knees under a swing from one of her sparring partners. Spinning on her knee she turned to face the four training droids coming after her. Pushing off the floor Terra was on her feet and swinging wide with the dulled edge of the sword. It was blocked by a vertical blade; the blade stopped dead in the air, the impact jolting her hands. Pushing against the droid and the fatigue in her limbs the blonde sniper switched hands and deflected a slash with her left hand. Pushing the edge to her right the droid’s weapon was moved left, exposing his right arm. In one fluid motion November slashed at the droid hitting its, but she had left herself exposed. A blunt strike from the polearm of another droid sent her stumbling backward into the wall of the gym.

“Again, you stupid machines!” She screamed in frustration.

The loud buzzer rang through the gym again and the four sparring droids came at her. Slashing downward she broke through the first droid and split it in half. Catching an incoming polearm blow with her free hand she drove the sword through the droid’s abdomen. Grasping the hilt with both hands she pulled the weapon free and pivoted on her left foot. With a wide swing and a scream of frustration she carved through the third droid just before crushing the fourth into a ball with her mind. The lights flickered as November dropped to her knees, a scream bellowing from her lungs, as her telekinetic mind began to lose grip on reality.

A cloaked woman appeared at the entrance to the door of the workout room.

“The compiling sequence is complete. We’re ready to begin penetrating the firewall at Imperial Intelligence.” She spoke through a voice modulator attached to her neck.

Reality came crashing back down upon November as the words sank in. The worm was ready. The time had come to finally find some dirt on Morrigan. Getting to her feet Nova headed toward the door where her accomplice stood, grabbing a towel off the hangar next to the doorway. Wiping her face and neck she followed the red cloaked woman into her computer room.

“Give me the go ahead and I’ll inject the code.” The woman focused her red eyes on the blonde next to her.

“Just know that if we’re caught…”

Nova interrupted her. “I’m aware of the risk Luna. Just get ready to inject the code.”

The blonde leaned over the desk where Luna had been sitting and pressed a few buttons. The joyful face of a laughing man appeared on one of the smaller monitors.

“You know this person?” Luna questioned.

“Major Bardan Jaxx of the 9th Infantry Division. We dated...briefly. He owes me a favor.” Nova said with slight disgust. “A good soldier, but a horrible boyfriend.”

Pressing a button on the keyboard she took an earpiece from the drawer and waited for an answer.

“Commander Terra.” A voice on the other end said with joy.

November immediately muted the line.

“You know he’ll be the first suspect and this will be pinned on him, right?” Luna asked.

Nova shook her head. “Just fucking do it. We’ll deal with that later. He’s only inside Imperial Intelligence briefly each day. If I’m right they won’t believe a word he says.”

Luna nodded and began typing on the computer to her right. A computer virus attached itself to the communication channel that Nova had opened and using Major Jaxx’s communicator gained access to the network at Imperial Intelligence. The virus cut the call and erased any outgoing or incoming trace of itself and began working. Within seconds a status window with a percentage came up on a small monitor in the corner.

Luna turned to her client. “When that meter reaches 100% it will have opened a secure line into Imperial Intelligence and be ready to transmit back. Once that happens we’ll have complete access to all levels of their network.”

I’m sorry Jaxx.

Nova sighed.
Quote: Congrats, you’ve all made it to the Oververse, after some very hard work and commitment.

But, you also just killed an angel.

You have to venture to find Omni -who is currently in the halls of Valhalla-, as you aren’t presented quite on his door (sorry). So the second half of this thread will be confronting Omni. Yes! And we have a system for that.

But before, there will be some wanderings in the OV to find Omni. Like below, where Christa is about to hold a celestial being against a wall, in a desperate search for the so well-known, man-in-white.

First half of the Oververse begins now. It will last half the week. There is NO rush to posting this round, as we have made it to our final destination. Post what you like. When you like, however the confrontation with Omni will be posted a tad bit later. Sorry to make you wait guys, but we HAVE to explore the Oververse at least a little.

The second half will be more rapid and fast paced.

You made it.
GET READY

-Gil
Soft sketches of white fluff covered the expansive world, rolling stone pillars rose to the limitless sky, and infinite clouds dispersed over the golden horizon. It was not the sun, however, that glowed there, but a bright city that illuminated the crests of every cloud. If one stopped to pause, they would notice how majestic a beauty it was to behold. Almost more beautiful than the achievement the group had just conquered.

To no one’s surprise, Christa was the first to vanish. They had made it. She had made it.

This was it.

The Oververse. It had taken months, if not well over a year since she had been damned to this existence, and now, through it all - all the blood, pain, and sorrow - through it all, she was ready to conquer the last leg of her quest.

Funny thing about her wobbling legs, they finally moved when she willed them to. She was off the back of the man who had carried her there. The pass into the Oververse, and she owed it to him. Later, she would make it clear, she owed nothing to him. Very clear. But, the leader’s entitlement aside, and the motivation properly applied to her stiff, electrocuted legs, made them walk, jump, and pounce upon the clouds.

The blonde was careful not to fall below, as who knew what would happen or if she would be able to climb back from down there, but she used the stability and had made it across the way.

Immediately she spotted her prey - an angel who was coming to greet her- but to his surprise, her grip slammed him against a pillar. Christa demanded to know where Omni was, almost ferociously. The angel’s wings were crushed against the now crumbling wall of energy. The strong being seemed to smile but offered the defiant girl no words as he read the passion on her face. The angel's own soft radiance was almost merciful to Christa and when she picked up on it, she soon felt belittled. Fury roared within her chest, her hair spiked animatedly with intensity, yet despite all odds, she did not follow through with a fist.

After a moment, nose to nose with the angel, the woman let out a small huff as she relinquished her fist, having realized that it was not her own force holding the angel against the wall, but its own freewill.

The rage choked in her throat, however she tamped it down and swallowed it down her throat. It rolled into the pit of her stomach, uncomfortably. She dusted off her hands, almost managing to shake off the shame as she muttered the smallest, “Sorry,” possible.

She breathed out a breath and instead took hold of her emotion, she would not let it seize her again, not when the others could see. A quick glance over her shoulder confirmed at least half of them were looking this way.

The being spoke now, confidence brimmed in its all-powerful voice, yet it looked upon the human with only care. “Come child, you are hurt. Sit. Your questions will be answered in time.”

Christa’s lungs expanded with a sigh, she knew that, but so much time had already been wasted. So much, almost everything, had been lost. Even herself along the way. Or rather, on that fateful day. Christa thought about everything endured as the angel introduced himself as none other than, “Raphael.”

  The Kid
Posted by: The Kid - 10-04-2015, 09:10 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (10)

Character name:
The Kid
Character source:
Bastion (Property of super giant games)
Character history:
I am taking this character from a position in his story after the restoration ending.

"But I've never heard of bastion!" You say, well allow me to give you and abridged version of his story.
The Kid never knew his pa, his mother was a sickly and frail little gall. She gave him his pretty white hair, though he always did get plenty of heat for it when he was young. He was born into the city of Calandia, a nation state at war with the only other nation on the continent. The tribal people of the Ura. School was not working out, so he decided to leave home and make his momma some money.

To protect a town that grand it needed high, high walls. Steep enough to protect it's people from any attack. It needed men to guard it and even step outside of it's protection in order o protect crucial resources like mines and logging mills. It was young men like him who joined the army that kept his people safe. After five years his time was up. When he headed home he found his mothers time had been up too. The money he had sent home was gone. So for the first time in the history of his people he stepped back up and took another five year turn on those horrifying walls, taller than the eye could see. Before he could even reach the age of twenty, something bad went down.

The calamity. Undoing five hundred years of progress** in the blink of an eye. He set out from his post to go find the place that everyone was told to go in times of trouble. He passed by a ghost town, burning and crumbled. The entire world had blown up and lied in pieces on the floor. But it built itself up for him with every step he took. He got to the bastion all right, but the only man who was there was an old stranger by the name of Rucks. A man so involved in setting things back that he never even asked the boy his name.

He told him that the bastion could fix it all. That it was a time machine of grand proportions capable of setting everything back. The one thing it needed was power. So he was sent out to gather the cores, tiny glowing stones found deep beneath the ground that could light up miles of city at a time. He had to fight tooth and nail as the less... Human and more resilient of the city's populous had taken the opportunity to repopulate and take the new world back. Eventually he came across two people. A girl about his age who was strumming a harp after the end of the world, and a man who dispite the days that had passed since the calamity. Still looked up to the sky as if waiting for the gods to give and answer.

The girl has a dusty old tome written in the language of the Ura. Although the two newcomers both had Ura blood. Only the man could read it as he was raised amung his people. That old book contained half the secrets of the entire calamity. The Kid would later learn that the calamity was a worse case scenario plan. For the Calandians to use in case if the five hundred years of war with the Ura came to a clamax, and they ever breached those tall walls the kid was stationed at. It would obliterate the land in a way unheard of and never allow life to grow there again. The man who had invented it, the girls father. Had told her to hide in a very particular place one day before he want to work. An Ura scientist being forced against his kind was a bad mix. He set it off to obliterate half of the entire world.

The man banged up the most crucial part of the bastion when they were hours from resetting. And fled northwards to home. Once he got there his people heard his tale and started grabbing up the one things that could fix the bastion. Shards, weaker versions of the cores. So the Kid went on a one man march to follow that man. Forced to kill as many Ura as it took to set things all back. After just two months of this he had reached he Ura's home to the south. They were... Displeased that the man had lead the boy all the way back home. So he was stabbed, beaten, and left for dead.

The Kid found him laying there. Dying in the snow, clutching the last piece of the puzzle to set the world straight again. In an act of humanity he left behind one of the greatest weapons of war the old world had to offer. He picked up the man instead. He carried him all the way inside of the Ura's last safe haven. At first those few of them that were left rained down on him arrows. But he never shot back. Once he met the wall of men preventing him from getting to the skyway in the center of the town (Mystical devises capable of launching a man into the sky, far enough to take him anywhere in the world. The only thing that would allow him and the man to get back with their wounds) The men stepped aside and allowed him to leave.

So the Kid found himself at the bastion. Fixed up and good to go. He searched withing himself to stand up and finish the job he had worked so hard for. His only two friends in the world stood there. He had a choice. Either reactivate the bastion and reset the world. Or detonate the cores in order to give them the lift to fly to another piece of the globe. Where the calamity might not have hit. It was then that the man named Rucks revealed how he had survived. He had invented this safe haven. He knew how it worked and was in it when the world met it's end. He told him one simple thing. If they reset, they will loose all of their memory's of eachother and might not be able to avert the calamity in the first place.

He took the chance. He wanted all of those loved ones of his that he had fought for so long to save to walk the world again. To finish their lives. He pulled the leaver, and watched as the world unwound itself and was rebuilt. A poor choice, as without even knowing this.... He found himself pulling the same lever again and again and again. He had caught the entire world in a time loop. Making it less and less stable with each reset. Thousands upon thousands of time these strands were reknitted. Only the tiniest amount of dejavou appearing in his mind. He did not care, he would never give up on the dream.

Until he reached for the lever one day, and was pulled out of his very reality. Everything fell away from him and turned to white.
Starting Moves:

Move: Cael Hammer (Requires Physical Strength - Cost=600)
The Kid's best friend, a hammer weighing twelve pounds at the head. This weapon takes plenty of time to build up strength with for a good swing (A normal swing would be just under a second but the strongest he could pull off would take two and a half seconds to prepare). But if it connects, well. It was designed to be used for demolishing wooden structures. It's handle is five feet long and wrapped with cloth for a better grip The actual head of the hammer is seven and a half inches tall in the middle. Making it exactly as tall as the Kid.

Move: Breakers Bow (Requires Ranged Proficiency - Cost=300)
For this huge, red longbow. It's a challenge for a great man to even string it. Let alone use it effectively. Still, the kid has mastered the use of this. It fires huge arrows that are fifteen inches long. Firing an arrow takes a flat three seconds. Meaning it is a very poor weapon to reach for when the enemy is near. Very accurate.

Super move: Calamity Cannon (Requires ranged proficiency, requires area attack proficiency. Cost=600)
The Kid takes out an unholy cannon that was never meant to be wielded by man, made by Ruck's after his world fell apart. After a three second charge up he fires an orb of chaotic energy. This energy is about the size of a dodge ball and fly's at the speed of such a ball given a furious throw. On impact it explodes. A six meter area is charred and twisted with the fires of something wrong. If someone is killed with this move. They will simply become a stone statue (normally with a terrified expression) Ten seconds later they will turn into dust and blow away in the breeze like dust. Not a weapon to be taken lightly, is so large it must be carried over the shoulder.

Super defense move: Lifewine (Cost: 600)
"A hit of life whine can keep you going in the darkest of times" The kid drinks plenty of this Calandian grape juice. For a good reason, if he wills himself too then the wine can provide an instant, near invisible force field for a brief moment around him when he get's hit by a super move. This requires no charge up time and can be activated on the fly. However, the drawback to this drink is the fact that he still feels pain when he does take the hit. Depending on the super move this could be minor pain that sets him back a little bit or enough to drive him to his knee's. (This is depending on the physical power of the move, a sword slash would not hurt him as much generally as a RPG as his shield takes in more direct force.)
(Only works on tier one super moves)
