Bandits and Psychos and Dune Buggies, oh my!
Posted by: Dell Conagher - 04-06-2016, 09:01 PM - Forum: The Endless Dunes - Replies (3)

Dell stepped out the other side of the gateway, slightly disoriented from the spatial warping. He surveyed the arid landscape around the portal, walking up to a lone signpost, the metal rusted and pockmarked from the elements. One sign pointed the way to a Carrefore. Another was sitting on the ground, riddled with bullet holes. It read 'Town with No Name'. Dell picked it up and affixed it back on the signpost before turning back to the road.

Figuring some kind of transport would be better than just walking however many miles it would take, Dell concentrated, focusing on summoning himself a vehicle. When the summoning was complete, he stepped back to admire his handiwork. Setting before him on the dusty savannah turf was a low-slung dune buggy, with oversized tires and plus-sized suspension. He set the toolbox down behind the seat and climbed in. Realizing that the buggy had been summoned without any gas, Dell spent the next 5 mminutes summoning some fuel. Once the vehicle was ready to go, Dell started the engine and climbed into the driver's seat, pushing in the clutch and shifting it into gear, leaving a cloud of dust in his wake as he drove off.

  Chaotic Touchdown
Posted by: Jack Darby - 04-06-2016, 06:00 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

A huge fountain that appeared to be made out of white marble.  It was shooting radiantly pure water out of it.  All in all,  if he werent here against his will,  Warren would be impressed. For some odd reason he was somewhere he had never been before. Furthermore his wrist blasters were not working which was a headache he'd need to correct in due time. But for now he had to think and discover where he was in order that he might actually have some help figuring things out.  None of his gear was working to the full levels it should,  but at the same time he didn't feel the need to steal the energy of the Core anymore to survive.

This place probably didn't have the Core,  or if it did the core was probably inaccessible.  Either way,  he needed a solution to not having even a map of the area.  Wherever he was he needed to find a solution to his current situation as he didn't have any resources with him presently.   Whoever had thrust him into this place against his will was going to die slowly and horribly a death that would be fit for the history books by the time he was freed.   But there was a more pressing mater at hand namely that he would need food and water in order to survive properly.  Finding the supplies he needed was paramount if he planned on actually living any length of time wherever the hell he was.  With this determined,  Warren surveyed his environment.

Upon seeing something to the west that had soldiers around it,   Warren decided he wasn't going to walk there.   What he wanted to do was drive something there.  Perhaps the Wild Car,  if he had that old friend.  But sadly he didn't as the Guardians had completely obliterated the vehicle when he'd been fighting against them.  Yes,  the Guardians. The heroes of his world who were little more than children. It was amazing how even with the help of R.Z. and others they were able to stand up to him. In any other situation he'd be be irritated with them,  but right now he knew he needed to emulate them.  The only way he'd survive in this place was if he were to pull one of their plays,  and put a team together of his own to allow him to survive in this world.   Even without the Core which was a powerful energy source that kept him alive,  Warren had other advantages he could use.   For one thing he had a brain that could allow him to build complex mechanical devices,  like the presently non-functional NFL-R.

Channeling his drive to succeed and his will power,   Warren started to run.   He was going to leave this place, and find a way out of the blank area he was in. Once he was free it would simply be a matter of making somewhere that he could build a base of operations from or discovering somewhere that he could call home. Yes,  he now had a plan of attack to handle this situation.   "So let's recap. I'm in a strange new world,  and have no resources other than the clothes on my back. The guardians are not here,  and I'm stuck in my suit.  I have no lab,  and no form of Transportation yet seem to not need the energy of the Core anymore.  Logically this situation makes no sense whatsoever but I will find a way through it.  The how is a good question though.  Perhaps I could hunt down one of the locals or inhabitants,  and persuade them to share with me what I need to know about this place.  I will also need to acquire a place that I can use as a base of operations.  So I've got the idea of what to do.  But the how still eludes me. "

Warren sighed for a moment,  as he considered his options.   As being stuck wherever he was forever was not actually a good option to say the least this left him but one option.  Find a way out of here.   A task that he normally would delegate to one of his minions... but wait. There were no minions with him.  Whoever had stuck him here had taken away all of his minions.  It was an UNFORGIVABLE mistake when someone stole his hench-people from him,  and his robotic assistants.  They'd have to be rebuilt of course,  but he didn't have time, not for now anyway.  Not when there was so much work that needed to be done.   This situation wreaked of Drop Kick's interference but the robot was dead or so he believed anyway.  What he needed now,  was a way to get some normalcy.  Once he had arrived at the gate in roughly 2 hours,  Warren talked for about 15 minutes with the Clone Troopers before waiting a few moments. There was no need for him to leave just yet as he had located one of the exits.  This place had soldiers with strange looking energy weapons far different from the ones that existed within the world he called home.  So this made him think he wasn't even in his own homeworld.

Once he had waited about an hour,   Warren walked through the portal and had made his exit.
With that done,  Warren was headed to a new world.

  Homin-Ratione

Character name:
Homin-Ratione (hoe-min Rat-ee-oh-nay)
Means “Son of Reason”

Character source:

Original

Character history:

Abstract
Homin-Ratione is a Novan, a space-faring race that existed far before the evolution of mankind on a foreign world and conquered a large portion of their galaxy. He served in the first fifty-year war against the Sar-Kuhn, an opposing galactic power that was still leagues behind the Novan empire in terms of technology, resource, and sheer military might. Despite this, blood was shed quite heavily, and many once nationalistic Novan soldiers were now understandably resentful of their own ruling bodies. As a Knight (Furtumin), Ratione was no exception. Sent deep into the fray of a battle, he witnessed up close and personal just exactly how savage a man, Novan or Sar-Kuhn, can become. However, with all of the pressure of his peers and higher officers, family, friends, and himself he forced himself to fight. As a Knight, Ratione wore a fully-enclosed power-suit that enhanced his strength and speed and allowed him to fight in the middle of an enemy formation for hours on end. His weapons were made to be significantly heavier than a regular soldier’s, and thus could fell three or five Sar-Kuhn with only a few swings. As a result, a fight against even a twice as experienced and skilled opponent was still a one-sided combat. When the war started Ratione would be pushing thirty in our standards of age (the statistically average maximum lifespan of a Novan in good health is around 300 years due to advanced medical technology), and at the end was pretty much fifty-plus. During the war, he had met what was the Novan equivalent of a wife (they have no concept of marriage, only really devout relationships) by the name of homina-Bonibus (Daughter of Good Hands) who was soon carrying his child. The daughter was born some time later, around twenty years before the war ended, and was named homina-Bonibus-Ratione for her first few years before being renamed homina-Bonent (traditionally, Novan children are simply named either “daughter of” or “son of” followed by some sort of combination of the parents’ names, then later a name that fits their personality is decided upon. This time in-between the two names varies, but is usually not more than two or three years). The mother passed in childbirth.
For most of Bonent’s life she was raised by Ratione’s immediate family on the outer rim farming colony of Mulcibus, only able to speak to her father through electronic messages or the very few opportunities he had to visit home. At the end of the war however, Ratione finally demanded retirement and was met with no objections. Finally returning for his daughter’s twentieth birthday, it is only about a week that passes before the Sar-kuhn make a comeback. Seemingly having bolstered their military out of thin air, with new ships, weapons, and their own power-armor they begin invading outer-rim colonies to surround the Novan empire. Mulcibus is attacked, and Ratione is forced back into fighting in order to defend his home. After about a month of a one-sided siege, the Novan military garrison convinces the Sar-Kuhn naval fleet to allow all women and children to evacuate the planet while leaving all of the men behind. The Sar-Kuhn do not go back on their agreement, and in the final defense the Novans are defeated in one last stand.
When everything suddenly goes black for Ratione while he is surrounding by axes and spears, his blood on his visor and the ground, gasping for air, he is suspended in darkness for what feels like eternity.
Then, a bright white figure of bizarre proportions appears, telling the Novan their name, where he is, and what the world he is about to enter holds for him.

Physical Description: (originals only)

Novans are incredibly humanoid, however in earlier generations of the Three-Thousand Years War they have some distinct differences.
First off, their legs resemble those of saurian raptors. They have large and long feet, the heel extending off the ground and giving the appearance of “bending backward”, their five toes being a little more elongated and thicker than our own. They lack claws, but their nails are still thick. They are also slimmer and more “straight” in comparison to raptor legs.
Novan heads are somewhat oblong, akin to an australopithecus skull. Their ears are small and close to the sides of the head. Novans still have flat faces, but the eyes are slanted and the jaw line somewhat more pronounced. Their noses are also consistently small and narrow.
In terms of hair, it is almost the exact same as a humans in terms of growth, types, and range of colors. Same goes for eye color.
Novans are on average taller than humans, the shortest Novans being around five feet and the tallest being almost eight feet tall. As such their limb proportions are longer but still even with the rest of the body. Arms, hands and torso are very similar to humans, however female breasts never get very large. Novan skin is also somewhat rougher than human skin, not so much leather-like in texture but definitely never very smooth.
Novan teeth are also more primitive, with small and sharp canines. These never really grow too far out.
Specifically, Ratione is around six and a half feet in height. He is built and physically fit. Eyes are hazel, and hair is a dark brown and is cut short against the scalp.
On his armor: As said it fully encloses the user, and the design reflecting that of general western European plate armor, specifically the mid to late-medieval periods. While the plates themselves are basically invulnerable to swords, small-caliber bullets, and most other solid projectiles (arrows and stuff), like actual plate armor, if joints are targeted or the armor’s power source is damaged it can render Ratione completely immobile in one or more or even all portions of the armor. Lasers and plasmas weapons do have the ability to cut through the plate, however. Extreme temperatures can also overpower life-support and either freeze or boil Ratione inside the suit. The only distinguishing properties are the leg armor, which has to be forged to different proportions, and the characteristic Novan helm. The suit’s energy reserves can last up to three or so days, which then varies on amount of usage. In heavy fighting this time can be halved. The suit must then be recharged, either with raw energy or some other sufficient power source.
http://imgur.com/FHqpCy4
Very basic representation of the pattern. Most if not all Novan helms followed a similar design, with the two prongs in the front protecting the visor where a virtual HUD appears. With the suit Ratione is easily seven feet tall. When Ratione appears at the Nexus he is fully armored, and his suit has a full charge.

Stats:

ATK:2
DEF:2
SPD:2
TEC:4

Starting Proficiencies:

Physical Strength (1000 OM): Without his power armor, Ratione is still physically built and trained in martial arts (Novan martial arts is largely the same as human martial arts), his calves, forearms, and back being where most of his muscle comes from.

Starting Powers:

Super Speed (1000 OM): When it concerns speed, Ratione’s armor technically only enhances the user’s strength. It does this by detecting muscle movements and causing the armor to move with the body, and eliminate work load. Thus Ratione can leap incredible distances with each step, up to twenty meters each.
Advanced Super Jumping (500 OM): Ratione’s armor has a jump pack on his back. While not allowing flight, it can accelerate him up to ten miles per hour in any direction it’s pointed at.
Basic Enhanced Senses (short range radar, radius of twenty meters. Displays basic geography and most high-profile movement) (1400)
Important thing to note
These enhancements are only given by Ratione’s advanced power armor. If he is caught in combat without it he is at a severe disadvantage, but still dangerous to an extent.

Starting Moves:

Novan Hand-and-a-Half Sword (600 OM): Ratione uses his sword. The sword does have a function to open up and reveal a smaller greatsword that is light enough to be wielded without the suit’s strength enhancement. The design is similar medieval European bastard-swords, with a straight crossguard and a hilt long enough to be wielded with two hands but also able to be wielded with one (when using in a two-handed fashion, Ratione would be gripping the pommel). The blade itself is a full meter long, with an extra .3 meters being added by the hilt. In its secondary form, the blade itself is only .7 meters long, with .1 meters being added on by the hilt (proportions can always be changed since I’m terrible at visualizing length). Made similarly to his armor, so it the primary form is incredibly heavy at around twenty or so pounds, whereas the secondary form is only around seven or eight.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

For Jade (Connor Hound vs Ballad)
Posted by: Corporal Light - 04-05-2016, 08:10 PM - Forum: The Whateververse, Man - Replies (2)

“Sir! Sir, wake up!”

The gunsmith snapped awake, his eyes briefly glowing white. His back felt like hell, probably from the rock hard, leather sleeping bag he was laying on. He looked around, seeing he was inside his white, military tent.

“S-Sir..” he said, twiddling his gloved fingers as Ballad glared at him, “I... I was informed to wake you up. It-It's time, sir.”

“Time...” the gunner repeated. He brought his hand to his face, lightly pinching the brim of his nose as the memories of the past few months surged through his mind.

“Yes.... it is time.”

Ten Minutes Later

Ballad despised the pre-battle briefings. The single downside of being the General of the Dwarven Army was that, for every mission he sent his muppet soldiers out to do, he had to stand in front of large groups of them and give needlessly long speeches there way. Not just formal stuff like orders, either. He also had to give them encouragement. He had to tell them that he believed, with every fiber of his being, that they would succeed in their mission. He had to tell them that, even if some of them did die, their deaths would not be in vain, as the battle would surely set forth a wide range of events where they would inevitably become victorious and this and that and blah blah, blah blah, blah blah BLAH.

None of that was even his idea in the first place. He had only agreed to it because, as SPB had informed him, he had to grin and bear it. Swallow his pride and endure their hypocrisy. “In the meantime,” he had said, “make them trust you. Ensure them you wish them the best.”

Hope you're happy, spirit. Let's just get this over with...

The sharpshooter walked through the long columns of tense yet eager soldiers, never taking his eyes off of the ground. He moved towards his podium, standing on top of it to address them. While most of them looked upon their leader with some semblance of awe, some held him with discontent for many reasons. First and foremost, his strategies. For many months, he had sent every available man and woman who could swing an axe out into the field and had diverted every resource he could get his hands on to the war effort. For everything they could not obtain, they destroyed.

Distant crackles filled the air as the soldier's waited patiently for their orders. The air smelled of sulfur and the ground was illuminated by colors of red and orange from only one discernible source: a nearby dwarven village. The general had ordered its destruction despite it being one of the last dwarven villages left standing in the Fields. As he had reasoned before, he rationalized his action as part of his “total war” policy: whatever they couldn't use or was no longer useful, they would burn in a massive hellfire. He had used this action to transform the Fields into a warzone, where no tract nor being was spared from it. The formally clear white snow on the ground now held a layer of gray ash in it that was carried through the air by huge drafts of wind. The few villages that had not been burned to the ground were now mere husks, abandoned and picked clean of resources. There was nary a single soldier in what remained of either side that had not had a taste of battle, as the General's relentless assaults and near suicidal attacks against the trolls had costed both races greatly. What used to be millions of men, women, and children were now a measly few hundred.

The soldiers stood still as their leader finally began his briefing. Throughout the speech, he kept a stern, yet hopeful tone and his movements slowly metamorphosed from sophisticated to exaggerated rage complete with sticking his hands to the sky and waving them around in circles.

“I am aware of the consequences my strategies have inflicted on this land we stand on. I am also keenly cognizant of the divers of cynics within the ranks of our host. This war... this.. disgusting, appalling war... has torn us asunder. I will not pretend to not fathom as to why. My leadership... my tactics... have cost us. They have consumed the Fields and mutated it into a husk. A shell that's known nothing but war.”

“But it is time, finally, after all these twelvemonths, for it to all end. This camp, and where we stand, is our last hope! To our south lies the remnants of Zul'jin's forces, waiting, quailing in trepidation. They have taken control of the hill, and are intent on using it to their advantage by annihilating us one by one with club, axe, and arrow.”

“But I know you. All of you. All of you are strong, fearless, cruel, and most importantly, I know you all despise them. You want to see them suffer. Am I correct?!”

The gunsmith shouted the last sentence towards his men, whom all responded with “Sir, Yes Sir!”

“Then I ask- no, I ORDER you. Every single one of you, to use that hatred. Project it onto the greenskins. Be BARBARIC to the greenskins. Treat them like they have treated us- as cold-blooded KILLERS who give no quarter to the undeserving! Show them that we will no longer tolerate them in our lands! That this war will go on no longer! That their race is AT AN END!”

The gunner stomped his left foot against the podium to emphasize his point. No one reacted. They had gotten used to his rather overzealous speeches and exaggerated movements. Even so, as his voice echoed around the camp, he could hear their breathing quicken in anticipation.

“We will show them TRUE might! We will show them that this land BELONGS TO US! We will TAKE THAT HILL, AND SLAUGHTER THEM LIKE THE FILTHY PIGS THEY ARE! AM I CLEAR?!”

“SIR, YES SIR!”

“BRIEFING'S OVER! GET MOVING! I WANT THAT HILL TAKEN BY NOON, AND I WANT TO SEE IT RED WITH THEIR BLOOD! I WANT A GODDAMN FORT CONSTRUCTED FROM THEIR FUCKING BONES!”

Fifteen Minutes Later

One would imagine that the General would have joined his men to fight the greenskins in the final battle. After all, for all his time as their leader, he had been seen as the pinnacle of dwarven rage and hatred for the enemy. Every major battle was one where the soldiers would see him on the front lines, charging forward, smoke enveloping his form as he tore into trolls left and right. He had developed a reputation for being cruel, bloody, and ruthless. He had taunted the trolls with videos and messages of brutal executions of their men. He starved them through careful removal of hunting grounds and food stores. He made them fear him through his lack of mercy, and it was often talked about how battles where he fought always had at least one troll torn in half from the waist. He had made their lives hell, just as he said he would. So why did he not go with them to finish the job?

Only the gunner knew the answer as he followed his trio of dwarves through the ice tunnel, gradually going up. He remained completely silent as they ascended, eventually popping out halfway up the mountain, coming face to face with The Horn.

The Horn was a gigantic, gray, metallic cornucopia. The large end was pointed out away from the tunnel and out into the air, with the tip wrapped in gold with a small, wooden reed. It had been constructed in secret by a small group of the best construction workers in the Dwarven Empire; the same group that had also led their leader up the tunnel to see it.

The Horn stood on a circular podium in the middle of a large, circular platform of stone a few feet away from the cave. In front of it was a large fence one could lean on to peer out into the world and observe its beauty. It was a shame that whatever beauty it had was consumed by either flames, blood, or ruin.

“Th-This is it, sir. It's complete. Just like you ordered,” one of the workers said, walking towards the tip of the horn. Both Ballad and the others followed, with the General moving around it.

The green inventor slid his arms up to his chest, crossing them as he circled the machine. It was exactly to his specifications. It was pointed directly away from the mountain, towards where he had predicted the final battle to be engaged. The wind was strangely silent and mild for the first time ever, and he could hear in the distance the marching of the dwarf's last army. He looked over to the source of the noise. The hundreds of dwarves were just passing over a large hill. Past it was where the trolls were dug in. And where they would inevitably fight to the last man.

“This is exemplary work. I must commend all three of you for your flawless erection,” he said, sliding his left hand across the base of the horn. He sounded genuinely happy, with the only thing preventing his smile from being noticed being his red scarf. The construction workers glanced at each other for a few moments before wordlessly looking back at their leader.

“Th-Thank you, sir. I-It was what was n-needed to win the war, s-so we built it li-like it was the last thing we'd ever build.”

“The quality is writ large,” the gunsmith replied, strolling towards the trio, whom by that moment had made a nice, clean line for him, “now, I must remind you, this is classified information. No one is aware of it bar us, correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Marvelous. You are hereby discharged.”

The dwarves raised their hands to their heads, saluting their leader. As they turned to leave, however, they heard a click, followed by the striking of a match. Before they could even scream, the gunsmith pulled the trigger of his flamethrower, the fire devouring their remains.

“It is complete,” he whispered, his tone malicious and triumphant.

He slid his flamethrower back into his coat, turning away from the shrieking, burning corpses and walked towards the fence. He leaned on it and stared out towards the yellowish horizon. From his distance, he could not hear the sound of battle, and to be quite honest, he had no intention of wanting to. He had kept his charade going for long enough. Once both sides had dwindled, he would activate the Horn and end it.

Then, and only then, would he win.

Just then, he heard the cocking of some kind of rifle. He remained motionless except for a light turn of his head, looking to see who was planning on assassinating him.

“Allow me to inquire... you're desire to puncture my form full of scorching metal?” he said towards his assassin, keeping polite and intentionally ignoring the snaps as the wick ate away at the dwarf's bodies.

Basically a pit where we can dump our music here.

As the creator of this thread, I shall now dump my first official piece here.

https://soundcloud.com/erpent453/a-shadow-of-a-man

The Piece is called A Shadow of a Man, and is the current version of SPB's Theme. I intend to extend it and eventually work it into a battle theme.

The instruments used are Organ, Violin, Harpsichord, and a keen ear can find a harp.

Let me know what you think!

Out in a Blaze of Glory.... or Not?

It was the last wave. The tides of oncoming robots never seemed to end. The Engineer ran back and forth, working with his BLU counterpart to maintain dispensers and sentries along the defensive line, and to lend extra firepower where it was needed.

Then, it was over.

The endless horde had met it's end in front of the smoking barrels of his and his companion's weapons. Cries of celebration were thrown to the sky, drinks were shared, hugs and high-fives were exchanged. It was finally over...

But it wasn't.

Without warning, the robots swarmed the celebrating REDs and BLUs. Grey Mann had finally caught them off guard. The Engineer scrambled to his post, desperately trying to mount a defense. But it was too late. The ticking was already upon him. Around him. Sentry Busters. Giant bombs on fast-moving mechanical legs. The Engineer swore. "Dammit..." then the world went black as the giant bombs detonated.

Waiting for the miraculous Respawn device he had created to bring him back from the dead, Dell Conagher wondered why everything was still dark. Usually he'd be able to glimpse the battlefield through the eyes of his teammates or cameras on the walls, but something was different this time.

Then the silhouette appeared, and Dell heard the voice of the being.

Quote:My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.

Dell wanted to ask this... Omni what in sam hill was going on, but he found that he couldn't speak, or move.

Quote: “This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most."

Dell immediately put any contemplation of how exactly this Omnilium was supposed to obey the laws of physics and yet be able to create anything. It'd save him a huge headache.

Quote:“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

At least this part was familiar. Endlessly respawning to fight the same battles over and over had dulled the edge of death a long time ago.

Quote:“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

And then Omni was gone, the blackness replaced with opulent white as far as Dell's eye could see. But his eyes could also see the remnants of a intense battle, even though the floor of the Nexus was patching itself back together. Dell sat up, rubbing the top of his head and looking around. The ruined fountain towered over his seated form as he gazed upon it, just barely staying upright.

Dell stood, dusting himself off and looking around. He decided to try out the miraculous powers of Omnilium by summoning the first thing he'd realized he didn't have when he arrived- his hat. He focused on it, and the orb formed in his hand. He gazed into the rainbow-colored orb, contemplating what had happened. He wondered what would happen to Mann Co and his co-workers... his friends.... now that he was gone. He'd zoned out in thought while the summoning had happened and when he came back to reality a white ten-gallon hat sat in his hand, black hatband included. "Well don't that beat all" The Engineer chuckled, adjusting the hat on his head and focusing on something else, something more.... useful, in case he might need it.

Once the summoning was complete Dell picked up the red toolbox, comforted in the thought that he had a few familiar things in this unfamiliar world. Glancing around at the gates, the polished metal of the Coruscant gate held promise of modern (or as close to modern as one can get in the Omniverse) society, but the worn stone of the Endless Dunes gate bespoke of a much more lawless and wild experience. Deciding to risk his luck, Dell pulled his hat down and hefted his toolbox in his gloved hand, setting off towards the worn stone gateway.
