Bandits and Psychos and Dune Buggies, oh my!
#1
Dell stepped out the other side of the gateway, slightly disoriented from the spatial warping. He surveyed the arid landscape around the portal, walking up to a lone signpost, the metal rusted and pockmarked from the elements. One sign pointed the way to a Carrefore. Another was sitting on the ground, riddled with bullet holes. It read 'Town with No Name'. Dell picked it up and affixed it back on the signpost before turning back to the road.

Figuring some kind of transport would be better than just walking however many miles it would take, Dell concentrated, focusing on summoning himself a vehicle. When the summoning was complete, he stepped back to admire his handiwork. Setting before him on the dusty savannah turf was a low-slung dune buggy, with oversized tires and plus-sized suspension. He set the toolbox down behind the seat and climbed in. Realizing that the buggy had been summoned without any gas, Dell spent the next 5 mminutes summoning some fuel. Once the vehicle was ready to go, Dell started the engine and climbed into the driver's seat, pushing in the clutch and shifting it into gear, leaving a cloud of dust in his wake as he drove off.

It had gotten dark. And the moon was obscured by clouds. Dell didn't like running in the dark but with any wasteland there were always the more unsavory sorts. He thought that the sign had pointed him in the right direction but he couldn't be sure. He thought he would have been there already... which was the reason he had continued driving into the night, headlights off, using the moons light to guide him. But now the moon was covered and Dell no longer felt comfortable. He decided to risk it. Pulling his Widowmaker out of the toolbox behind him, he slowed down. Rolling to a stop on the side of the road, he cut the engine and got out. He set his toolbox aside and focused on retrieving the Omnillium he had spent to create the buggy. He'd already spotted a decent shelter. A stony overhang jutting out of the ground would be his resting place for the rest of the night, about a hundred feet from the road and with a good view of the surrounding terrain.

Widowmaker resting across his lap and toolbox next to him, Dell tipped his hat over his face and drifted off to sleep.

Dell woke to the sound of a hammer cocking. "Valuables, all of em. Cough em up" The bandit said, his voice scratchy. The bandit's arm was shaky, and it looked like he hadn't eaten in a few days. "Now hold up, there. Don't be doin' something you'll regret." Dell said, his obscured arm gathering up some of the sand from the ground. "I said valub-augh!" The bandit couldn't even finish his sentence before Dell flung a fistful of dust in his face. Blinded, the bandit stumbled backwards giving Dell time to get to his feet and face his foe. "I warned ya." Dell said, grabbing the revolver from the stunned bandit barrel-first and clubbing him over the head with it, knocking the secondary out cold. He dropped the rusty gun in the dust and gathered the Widowmaker and his toolbox. Checking around to make sure that the bandit was alone, Dell focused on summoning a more traditional mount. After strapping his toolbox to the saddle of the horse he summoned, he clambered up into the saddle and pulled on the reigns, heading back onto the road and towards his destination.

After several days of wandering the seemingly endless mix of savanna and desert, Dell found himself back at the Nexus gate. How, he didn't know, but he'd given up trying to reach his destination. He looked back at the hot desert, figuring that he'd missed it in that stupid stint of night driving, and then traveled on some derelict trail for miles before eventually circling back here.

Whatever, he'd find somewhere less bandit-infested to go. Maybe he'd go back, but not now.
