Please Don't Eat Me ( Dwarfholm Faction Quest; Closed )
Posted by: Kuroji Setsu - 07-10-2018, 03:36 PM - Forum: The Frozen Fields - Replies (9)

"Of course these are well made as well."

Trying his restraints once more, the intricate knots preventing him from achieving the correct angle to release himself with his techniques. It was clear that he was safely their prisoner now, otherwise they would have just slit his throat in his sleep. Hardly reassuring but a prisoner is still in the same category as the rest of the living, so that was something. Probably wasn't the greatest idea to sleep here. In fact, it almost didn't feel like his idea at all. So confusing.

He must have been snoring loudly because the fact he was awake was beginning to be discussed down the hall, from what he could hear.

"Well, I suppose we better go give our regards to the chef."

One voice commented while the others laughed raucously. This was reassuring, they seemed at least well humored.

Torchlight flared into the room as the first of the group walked in. It was a short and hearty-looking humanoid. Bearded and covered in leather and furs. The others were similar looking and totaled at three, following behind with weapons already drawn.

"Alright... I assume you can understand that you are an intruder here."

Setsu nodded affirmative, smiling and making sure to hold the gaze of each dwarf, briefly.

"...and, despite the food you left out for us, have forced us to take you prisoner."

Setsu nodded affirmative again. All this made sense to him.

"Ok... Well, we don't really have much desire to carry you to a dungeon given that we just ate. So if you have some way to verify that you are not an agent of Zul'gurand, the Kingdom or Coruscant, that'd be greatly appreciated."

Setsu tilted his head to the side, clearly curious.

"I can't say I'm an agent of anything other than myself. Especially, given that I don't know what these things you listed are."

He paused, eyeing the Omnillium orb in one of the Dwarves behind the one in charge's hands.

"That orb there is perhaps the only proof I could offer that I'm not from here. I traveled directly from the Fountain with that orb there to where we are now. Since arriving in this world I've not seen a soul. You four are the first living creatures I've seen."

He said, just feet from the spike trap that could have killed a less wary traveler. The Dwarves exchanged glances and the one carrying the orb stared into it, mesmerized. They didn't have many options here, clearly each one had overeaten and no one among them seemed to offer a way that could more easily verify the stranger's story. So they shrugged and nodded to one another. It was time to simply follow protocol.

"Listen stranger, I've no interest in any more stories than need be heard, and since we don't know you we can't verify anything. So I'll just put it to you straight. We of the mountain city of Dwarfholm don't suffer fools, and stumbling around in our game traps is very foolish. We Dwarves have an open door policy to you sorts of travelers, however, this situation is the sort of thing one must be cautious of. You unknowingly cooked a good meal for my men and I, we don't wish you harm, but we cannot allow you to go further into the mountain."

Setsu followed this train of thought, nodding throughtout. This definitely sounded better than being put back up on the slide into the spikes or having his head caved by a hammer.

"Here's what is gonna happen. We're gonna walk you out of another entry to our tunnel network, blindfolded. We'll return your belongings and send you on your way."

Setsu spoke, beginning to feel some measure of hope. "How wonderfully reasonable you are! I sincerely appreciate it and I hope you did enj- hey! Hmm!!

The dwarves had shoved a rag in his mouth, followed by a black bag and rope over his head.

- -

Sometime later Setsu was tossed out into the snow, restraints and bag and all. He heard his board and the orb land next to him.

"If you'd like to return to Dwarfholm for any reason, we, the Dwarven citizenry, will require you to demonstrate a degree of fealty to our kind and our Monarch. That means we will need to see a chunk of Cobalt, a Wompa hide and, if you think you can manage it, a Troll tusk. Assuming you can manage this, you will be welcomed in. Good luck, if you choose to proceed, and stay warm.

A fluttering of material could be heard and another object landed next to Setsu. The cloth bag over his head began to dampen as the sounds of his former captors disappeared.

Struggling to break free he managed to draw his hands far enough apart to activate Oniyuri, tearing the rope apart that bound his legs and arms. Removing the bag from his head, Setsu's eyes were greeted with more darkness. It had become evening, of course, having slept through the day. The other object turned out to be a heavy cloak that would have to work as a blanket.

He wasn't sure he would survive this night inside a shallow cave and had no option to yet return to the Dwarven tunnels, which supposedly led to a city. He could take the chance and hope for a better welcoming party, but it made more sense to stay active at night so as to be able to comfortably and safely sleep in the daytime. His best bet it seemed at radically improving his lot here was to do as he had been instructed by the Dwarf.

"Well, I guess it's time to find a Wampatroll or whatever."

Setsu said to himself, hoping he could remember exactly what he was supposed to collect.

The Adventures of the Naval Carrier Ferros
Posted by: Lord Zedd - 07-09-2018, 06:33 PM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - No Replies

The Imperial Naval Carrier Ferros rolled through the heavy waves of the Vasty Deep, tearing through them as though they were thin sheets of paper. The massive Imperial aircraft carrier was alone on its mission of exploration and protection, making sure the area around the Imperial islands was secure. The carrier was fully loaded and equipped, and prepared for the many threats of the uncharted verse. It was a good thing, because the craft was currently a great distance from the safe haven of Costa Del Sol or any Imperial fleet. However, amongst the skilled and experienced fighters assigned to the vessel, they had also made room for plenty of rookies.

On the top deck, Knox looked at his brand new X-Wing with an odd mixture of pride and indifference. He had finally been accepted into flight school after years of pushing for it within the Imperial command. If he’d been back in the universe he swore he knew, none of this would have mattered in the slightest. Even if he was, though, the privilege to fly such a craft would have been an exclusive honor. He couldn’t help but bask in the glory of such an accomplishment, despite the burning reminder in his mind that this whole world was twisted, fucked up, and didn’t matter. But, he was here, so he figured he’d make the most of it. He'd proven again and again his unnatural talent with vehicles of all shapes and sizes, so it was nice to see it finally rewarded.

Knox, Cade, Grace, and Laci were four stormtroopers that had initially been assigned to Lord Zedd on Coruscant. Upon surviving his extremely unique and neurotic management style, they’d been transferred to the Vasty Deep to help deal with the Darkling invasion. They’d proved to be unconventional members of the Imperial brigade, but no one could really argue with their unique ability to come home with the job done, even if the means were a bit unconventional or unprofessional. After becoming far more seasoned during their tour in the Deep, the assessment had been made to grant them specialty training. Likewise, their superiors in the Deep had agreed with Coruscant’s recommendation that they be kept together. While separated for their unique training, the understanding was that they would be working on missions together again before too much longer.

“Hey, hey!” a voice called from behind the black haired secondary.

The man turned to see his teammate, Grace, walking towards him, tying her red hair in a bun as she walked. She was wearing an all black Imperial flight suit and her Arwing wasn’t too far from Knox’s fighter craft. Grace had ended up joining flight school to be near a friend when she wasn’t sure exactly what to specialize in. The other two members of their squad had chosen Mech operations for their specialty, which they would be working on elsewhere on the carrier, so she'd decided to stick with Knox. Grace was nervous, but excited all the same. They’d done all the simulations, picked their ships, and were now waiting on whoever would be their instructor for the morning’s operations.

“Does this suit bug the hell out of you?” Knox asked as Grace stopped by him. “Its freaking hot out here.”

“You should have seen Cade and Laci in the lower decks,” Grace laughed. “They said it gets so hot in those big things they can’t wear much at all.”

Knox perked up an eyebrow, which set Grace into a fit of laughter. She knew there were unspoken feelings between Knox and Laci, so she tended to tease them from time to time like the little sister role she’d adopted within their group. Knox realized he was being messed with and rolled his eyes.

“Yea, yea,” he grumbled. “So you know anything about who we’re flying with?”

“Nope,” Grace commented, looking up at Knox’s X-Wing. “Some pro.”

“Better be, to put up with you,” Knox teased as he looked around.

“Uh huh,” Grace agreed, distracted as she looked over the ship. “Hey I’m gonna paint our fighters, and their Mechs. That would be a fun project, don’t you think? Team spirit and all!”

“I wonder if she’ll expect us to stand at attention and all that junk,” Knox ignored Grace’s chipper attitude this morning.

Grace rolled her own eyes this time and walked around the front of the fighter to start to get a game plan on how to decorate the crafts. Knox just looked out at the endless ocean and enjoyed the wind on his face. At least it was a clear and sunny day. But damn this suit was hot.

  VR event - Help needed!
Posted by: Amaterasu - 07-09-2018, 07:49 AM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (14)

So, I'm finding myself a little lost because in order to make the upcoming VR event to promote the Shardworld appealing, I want to switch things up. In light of DA2018 being a tournament-style setup with a twist (the losers bracket, I mean) I'd like to turn my attention to something different. The problem is, I have no idea what!
Hence why I decided to rename the VR tournament to "VR event" - perhaps it'll be something else entirely.

This event will be taking place a while into the future - I don't want to throw a new event while everyone is still recovering from DA and Dark Data. No solid dates yet but it's probably not gonna happen before October 2018 at the earliest.

Some background to fill in everyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about:
TLDR: The Shardworld, an as-of-yet unreleased MMO set in the Dataverse, is almost ready to come out of development. To attract players and promote the game a massive trade fair complete with PR people to whip up the hype, overpriced merch and a big event to top it all off is held in Coruscant. You can either use the provided VR stations in Coruscant or a VR station from a base you have access to.

The 'Shardworld' is an upcoming thing I have been developing on and off for a while now. It's intended to be an MMO set in the Dataverse, which can be accessed through VR stations in your base or the public ones in Coruscant. In order to 'promote' the game with a big event, I aim to organize an event in the style of the Camelot Colosseum or Dante's Abyss.

Keep in mind that this is entirely my personal view of how things COULD go! None of this has been approved or refused by the staff yet, and thus is subject to change.

The Camelot Colosseum event has drawn a lot of attention to Minas Tirith and the Kingdom in general, and although the glorious Empire remains stronger as a faction and has nothing to fear from Aragorn, the God-Emperor has decided that it is time for Coruscant to do a little PR of its own and remind the people why they're the biggest and best faction in the Omniverse. Conveniently the Prime Aeris, who has disappeared into the Dataverse almost three years ago and has not been heard of since, is in need of some aid to thrust her Magnum Opus, the MMO-game 'Shardworld', into the Omniverse's mainstream.

Held as a massive trade fair sponsored by the Empire where everyone is welcome* as well as being live broadcasted through the Dataverse, the event is sure to draw the masses. And like any hyped trade fair there's overpriced food to be had, merchandise from baseball caps to plush toys of the Shardworld's most fearsome bosses is sold everywhere and PR people of every company that has their hands in the Dataverse gaming business, from OmnIRaidCall to MMR-Masters, are there to hype up the masses and fire their T-Shirt cannons into the grasping hands of fans. Devs and PR Secondaries working under the big boss Aeris herself are present to show screenshots and trailers of the game and booths are available to both the public and the press to play demos of small polished parts of the game.

But of course, the big main event that is supposed to REALLY draw the masses is going to be the Shardworld VR event. Held in the Dataverse to promote the Shardworld, the MMO Aeris has developed, and show the game off as a tech-demo, the participants get to take part in some sort of event, with prizes redeemable in the game being distributed to the winners.
Being very aware of the risk of hooligans, fanatic fans, terrorists, saboteurs and similar unsavory elements the wise and generous God-Emperor offers a set of protected VR Stations in Coruscant from which the participants can partake in the event while Stormtroopers and other security elements protect them from interference**. Of course, if you have access to a VR station in your own base or that of a friendly Prime you can participate from anywhere in the Omniverse.

(*) Individuals with a bounty in the Empire may or may not be arrested at the gates
(**) Participants with a bounty in the Empire may be allowed to participate in the tournament, but good luck getting out afterwards
The event should be something combat-themed as is the case for just about all events here. Co-op? Maybe. The only rule is that there must be a single #1 winner, but that's easily solvable if there's 2+ people at the end, through a good old fight.
I've juggled with the idea of it being a tournament with points, where people can choose to play it "safe" (1x combat score multiplier, 1x points multiplier) or "risky" (0,75 combat score multiplier, 1,3 points multiplier), asymmetrical 1v3/1v4 matches where the one player is given a huge cool boss character to fight as (something like Evolve), co-op fights against NPC bosses where points are distributed based on performance (maybe even with categories one winner for "damage" and one winner for "co-op"?) and a few other half-baked ideas.

What would you guys like to see? Did I miss any good concepts? Any and all suggestions are welcome! I may create a poll in the future, this is mainly collecting ideas right now.

  Super Move Refund
Posted by: Thaal Sinestro - 07-08-2018, 12:21 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (4)

https://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php...#pid138238

Quote:I've also removed an example Super Utility called 'Ice Prison' that let people imprison someone for 40 seconds as a T1 super utility. I'm going to ask on avoiding any sort of full-scale immobilization supers, because they're just... not 'fun' in the context of a creative writing website and could create 'issues' (I freeze you in ice with my last post, you have no SP and get frozen, but I'm judged to lose [how do you even rectify that without it seeming silly]). I know that's just one hypothetical, but I'd rather just nip it before that seeps into 'the meta'. I believe there was only one real move based on this, and I'll talk to that person.

Quote:Hard-Light Containment - 800 OM Tier 2 Defensive/Utility Super Move Requires Ranged Proficiency, Area Shield Proficiency, Ranged Materialize Proficiency, Remote Control Proficiency, Debuff Proficiency

Sometimes, there's that one guy that's becoming a real problem.

Sinestro summons a virtually indestructible hard-light containment cell around the target, which absorbs and contains whatever they're currently doing and isolates them from the rest of the fight. A Tier 2 Super Move and the containment effect will cancel each other out, and otherwise the container lasts a maximum of 30 seconds. The individual inside the container is also protected from any attacks in the same way that people outside of it are protected from them. The container materializes almost instantly. The container is a rectangle, and offers the person inside about a foot above and around them.

If I can jsut get refunded the OM for this, I'll remove it from my roster! Thanks!
