October Monthly Accolades (Until November 7th)
Posted by: The Vision - 10-31-2017, 07:26 PM - Forum: Bookkeeping Archive - Replies (34)

Happy Halloween y'all! I tried to figure out a way to make this round of Accolades more Halloween-y. I considered labeling all the titles "Spoopiest ____" but decided against it.

For those of you who are unaware, the Accolades involve nominating (and later, voting for) those who have outdone themselves in a particular area each month. For variety's sake, the categories for each month may be different.

You have until November 7th to nominate your choices. After that, we will proceed to the voting phase where members will vote among the two individuals with the most nominations for each category. An exception to this is if someone manages to get 5+ more nominations than the runner-up, in which case that person becomes the winner by default.

If you wish to participate, think of who stood out the most in a particular category this month and post your choice, along with a 2-3 sentence long explanation, in this thread. You are not barred from nominating your own characters/threads, nor do you have to fill out all the categories.

The winners will become this month's "Community Stars". And what benefits does this bring? Here is an explanation, courtesy of Alex:

(07-26-2016, 11:34 AM)Alex Wrote: As part of being voted as a Community Star/User of the Month (I use the terms interchangeable mainly because Community Star is less formal-sounding than User of the Month), these members gain a color (you must select this in your User CP) and access to the Omni-World R&D forum.  In the past this was my pseudo-private forum, but it's now a place for myself and others to discuss the Omniverse.  This is also the meeting place/brainstorming area for Story Aides and Story Guides, so for all intents and purposes, winning an accolade lets you become a pseudo-Story Aide for the duration of your reign.

Forum access is for the month following a member's selection as a Community Star, and this is irregardless of which 'accolade' you were selected for.

And the categories are:

‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?

‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?

Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.

Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)

'Best' Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining? Dark Data is excluded from the running.

'Best' NPC – What non-player character (can be a site, personal, or story NPC) entertained you the most (for whatever reason). Please note who the 'owner' of said NPC is, just in case I am not familiar with them.

'Best' Costume – Which character do you think has the best physical appearance?

Purple Ribbon - Consider this a bonus category for nominating someone who, while they may not be the best and have all the twitter followers, you believe deserves to be recognized for what they bring the the Omniverse. (The winner must be a DIFFERENT person than last month's winner; the July-September winner was Blink)

  Dane Regan vs 13-Jzall OOC
Posted by: Dane Regan - 10-31-2017, 07:25 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (58)

Since 13 is heading into the Tangled Green just as Dane is about to leave, we've agreed to cut the fuss and essentially start off with a confrontation/unplanned ambush (Dane is stealthed), which 13 may choose to run from.

If 13 doesn't run/escape, I propose the standard fight rules (but with extra time to post):

Word Limit: 800
Posts Per Player: 3
Time Limit: 5 days (120 hours)
Random Elements: On
Damage Meter: On

So, I'll throw out an ambush style intro post, then 13 can either run or do his intro. If he doesn't run, the fight starts as usual. If he does, then Dane will pursue and we'll need someone to make a ruling. If he escapes, he escaped. If he doesn't, the fight starts.

New Fight Order/Rules (for round 2 and after):

Word Limit: 800
Posts Per Player: 3 (or 2, if they missed round 1)
Time Limit: 1 week*
Random Elements: On
Damage Meter: On

*Round 2 starts this Sunday at 11:59pm EST, and finishes the following Sunday at 11:59pm EST. Round 3 lasts for the following week (unless someone needs an extension and asks for it). Essentially, the suggested rules for large fights, but with longer round timers:

Quote:In group fights, an entire round lasts 72 hours by default, and players must 'call' the right to post next by posting in the corresponding OOC topic. If a player is next in line but has not posted within 2 hours, the right passes to the next player to 'call' their post. If you are taking longer than expected to post, you should let the other players know, or pass on your right to post. Once every player has posted or 72 hours (or the decided time limit) passes, the round will end and the next round will begin. The time limit for group fights should be based on the number of participants, and usually a judge will work out a time limit that works for everyone. By default, or if an agreement cannot be made, we add 12 hours to the default time limit for each participant past 3.

If you haven't posted within 2 hours of calling it, but you're "almost" done, just say so. And if you don't think you'll be able to finish in 2 hours, give a rough estimate of a finish time. We've got a week per round - that's more days than people, and it can be extended as needed. Working like this instead of with a post order can probably help fit everyone's schedules.

  Recognition/Ascendancy
Posted by: Takanomiya Hijiri - 10-31-2017, 03:47 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (5)

I figured I'd probably best make a topic for this, since the two times I've asked 'Quick' Questions so far, the answers have taken at least several posts to clear up.

So, I have two questions today:

First - Is Recognition absolutely not going to ever require more than 50k words, regardless of writing quality, or is it like a quest, where you have to write up to twice as much if you don't do a good enough job?
I'm asking because if it's the former then my latest post puts me roughly 80% of the way there.  :woah:

Second - Is there a list anywhere of all the players with Ascendancy & Recognition?
I'd like to know in relation to Coruscant in particular, since that's where Hijiri is living right now, so I feel like I should make him recognise those people... knowing the rest of them for the other verses would be nice too, of course.

P.S. INB4 someone is all like "Ermahgerd, Y U no lern 2 use search function, n00b?"... I dunno about the rest of you, but every time I try and use the search I get a MyBB error. Every single time, without fail... so that's not really a viable option.

Posted by: Erik Vrell - 10-31-2017, 05:03 AM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

Erik burst from the portal, his horse apparently sharing his enthusiasm. As he adjusted to the comfortable temperature of the Nexus, he pondered what exactly he should be doing. He knew he had to fight something, but what? His boiling blood began to cool as rationality took over. Calmed down enough for regular thoughts, a deep feeling of loneliness began to set in. The psychic tried to ignore it as he rode onwards, but it gnawed at him, reminding him how isolated he really was. Everyone he had considered a friend had simply vanished.

Sighing, Erik considered finding someone to join him in his journeys. While considering this, Erik's thoughts drifted to his home before coming to the Omniverse. The mountains of his temple city, the comforting chill, surrounded by fellow mindbreakers. It was practically paradise. Erik snapped back to reality, realising how he could kill two birds with one stone. The frozen fields were renowned for being, well, frozen. Snow always made Erik feel right at home. In the fields, were the dwarves, which were well known for being good drinking partners. Why not move to the fields and make some friends in the process?

Satisfied with his decision, Erik turned his horse towards the frozen fields gate. The decision was not made without some sadness, however, as he couldn't help but think about New Babylon. He had been a member of the organisation for such little time that he didn't even get a chance to call Nippur his home. 'No point dwelling on it.' Erik thought to himself. New Babylon was gone, but Erik was still very much still here, and he would just have to continue his adventure alone.

I want to be annihilated Big Grin

Me and Tea are doin' this. Im cool with 800-1000 words, which ever Tea is cool with, and 72 hour post frames cause my job never allows for free time in a 2 day stretch. All other thingies be normal.

As for scenery and such, I was thinking the Frozen Fields or the Ashen Steppes.

  Joining Derek Thorn
Posted by: Derek Thorn - 10-30-2017, 05:09 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (9)

CHARACTER NAME:Derek Thorn

CHARACTER SOURCE:Original

CHARACTER HISTORY: Derek Thorn is from a world of magitech. The balance of magic and technology led to some crazy abominations that plagued the societies. Derek was one of the few who decided to hunt the abominations. Derek uses his two main weapons, the red sword that symbolises the passion and fury of the beasts he hunts, and the blue sword that symbolises the cold calculating nature that puts humans above the beasts he hunts.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:[Image: 3bbe0ad5349ff2d43058b7eabc5d374f--fantas...arrior.jpg]
Derek is a human. He is twenty-six years old, or at least looks it. He has short, brown hair, usually unkempt under his hat. 5 foot 11 inches in height. His coat is made of a sheet of metal with larger metal plates in some places to provide more protection.

STATS:

STARTING PROFICIENCIES: Physical Strength (1000)

STARTING POWERS: Master Super Jump (800). Integration (1000).

STARTING MOVES:
Quick blade. A 17 inch long sword that focuses on speed over cutting power. It is very fast, being much less dense then it appears, meaning it doesn't do much damage, but can hit much faster. Can be chained together to form combos with itself and Strong Blade. (300)
Strong blade. A 17 inch long sword that focuses on strength and hitting hard over speed. It is much denser than it appears, meaning it hits harder, but at a much slower rate. Can be chained together to form combos with itself and Quick Blade. (300)
Hammer fist, using his power of Integration, Derek turns his fist into tightly compacted steel and charges up a devastating punch. He does this by clutching a coin that is a relic of his old life. The relic is just an old steel coin that has no magical significance, only sentimental value to Derek. The punch is similar to the strong blade, only it takes two seconds to charge, does much more damage. Unlike the blades, this can only be used to end a combo. (300)

  Switching: Captain America to Centurion
Posted by: Centurion - 10-30-2017, 02:53 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (5)

Character Name: The Centurion; Cade Faulkner

Character Source: Original Character

Character History:
Cade Faulkner is the son of an American navy officer and a native Hawaiian. Raised in Honolulu, Cade lost his father to a shootout under mysterious circumstances at a very young age and became the man of the house. With his mother ailing, Cade took up work around his neighborhood, burying himself in jobs, extracurricular activities and school. The only thing keeping him afloat was his mother and his closest friends: Gwen Adler and Kirby Kojima. At age 19, while taking a long walk along the Hawaiian trails, he stumbled across a crashed alien spacecraft. Within the craft was an alien Synthetic Sentience, designated Janus. Warned of an impending threat to Earth and humanity, Cade agreed to assist Janus and donned the Centurion Apparatus.

A super weapon designed millennia ago by an ancient race known as the Prefects, the Centurion Apparatus forges its wielder into a one man army by providing protection, strength, flight, energy projection, and a tactical heads-up-display. Under Janus' tutelage and with the warship Atlaas repaired, Centurion drove away the advanced scouts of the Consortium, an alien conglomerate driven to capture a Centurion Apparatus and use it for their own conquests. His planet only temporarily safe, Centurion joined with other heroes under the singular banner of a national defense agency known as Initiative. Along with his allies, Centurion has fought back creatures from other planets, other realities, and other realms. They have stopped madmen and twisted machines from enacting horrid plots and kept their homes safe.

Now Centurion balances his life precariously. On the one hand, he has his responsibility as a Centurion to protect Earth and the universe from the Consortium threat. On the other hand, he has a duty as a friend and a son to care for and be there with his ohana. Still struggling with that today, Centurion is sucked from his world by the being Omni and dropped into a place he does not know. Confused and separated from his mentor, his best friend, his mother, and someone he had grown more than close with, he feels very alone.

Raised by a warrior to be a warrior, Cade has known struggle all his life. Time and time again he has had to overcome mighty obstacles. His father’s words would always echo in his ears in times of strife: “Everyone has their Goliath, but sometimes one man has to stand up to everyone’s giants because he’s the only one with a slingshot.” These words stuck with Cade for his whole life, driving him time and time again to put himself between those he loves and adversity. He is a brave and sacrificial young man, more than willing to fight and die for others. He fights with a passion, an innate drive for the defense of the innocence. He’s a brawler, the very definition of a warrior. He fights for what he loves with everything he has, never holding back as he throws himself to the wolves with a smile on his face. He is inspired by challenge, enraged by injustice, and always willing to crack a decent joke. Despite his training and primal masculine instinct, Cade is still just a kid (not that he’ll admit that). He’s 19 years old, and acts like it. He treasures companionship and enjoys a solid one-liner. He’s into comic books, music, and surfing. He’s a young man with more responsibility than he could have imagined, but he manages. He always has and he always will. Anything to get him back home to his family.

Physical Description:
Cade Faulkner is a 19 year old young man. His Caucasian skin is tanned by his youth in Hawaii and his naturally brown hair has been mildly bleached by the sun to be sandier. His eyes are brown as well.

The Centurion Apparatus is a grey, form-fitting mesh that covers Cade from head to toe. Silver, chromed armor covers his cheeks, his arms, his back, and his legs. Glowing lines of orange energy cut through his mesh, pulsing and wavering with his energy usage. His eyes glow orange, as well as all the energy he outputs from his armor. The Apparatus is a nano-machine composite that forms over Cade's body and seals itself like a thick second skin.

Powers: Advanced Super Jumping (500), Burst Movement (800)

Moves:

Ionic Discharge (Area of Attack, Physical Strength) - (600)
The Centurion Apparatus was built for war and it thus boasts powerful weaponry. Despite the restrictions placed on his suit's functionality after entering the Omniverse, Cade can still access limited energy projection. Ionic Discharge is a release of the energy buildup within the Centurion Apparatus in a close proximity. This release of energy comes in the form of electricity, crackling in a four foot radius around the hero. It takes at least 4 seconds to charge, but upon release this temporary burst of energy electrifies and damages enemies who were foolish enough to get too close. The wave covers its radius virtually instantly. This burst of ionic energy acts like a field, surrounding Centurion in a sphere-like manner. This discharge lasts for about 3 seconds and it deals moderate damage over the course of this time. Alternatively, Centurion can grab an enemy and discharge the same amount of energy into a singular target. The energy is projected through the hero's palms, unleashing every joule into a grappled target. The charge time, duration, and energy consumption are identical as the amount of discharge does not change, simply the manner of application. Shocking a single target is nearly doubly as damaging as its radial counterpart. This ability cannot be used on the move as the output of energy overcharges the Apparatus' gravity sheath and anchors the hero to his position, whether on the ground or in the air, for the duration of the charge. The Centurion Apparatus is an efficient machine, and it regulates energy output carefully. Thus, when Ionic Discharge is used, Centurion's overall power source is drained moderately, similar to a special move in a fighting game.

Centurion's Might (Area of Attack, Physical Strength) - (600)
A testament to the Centurion Apparatus' strength and versatility, Centurion's Might is often used when overwhelmed or if an enemy is particularly resilient. This move combines the raw strength and concussive blasts of the Apparatus to produce a singly strike that can put distance between a Centurion and his opponent(s). It takes 2 seconds to wind up and charge the punch. If this melee strike is thrown at a single target, the concussive force will be uni-directional, sending the target and only those directly behind them flying backwards up to a dozen feet. This strike is much more damaging than its environmental variant, but lacks in radius. If used on the environment, this move has an explosive effect. Centurion can strike the ground he stands on, producing an omni-directional shock-wave that can ripple out in a 10 foot radius around him, damaging enemies and the environment. This shock-wave is notably weaker than the targeted strike, but excels in clearing the immediate area of aggressors, throwing them off balance and tossing them up to 10 feet up and away. This ability can be used in conjunction with most movement abilities, allowing Centurion to leap into battle, drop from above, or finish a series of blows in a combo-like fashion. This move draws on both physical strength and energy, draining the Centurion Apparatus heavily. It is not often used more than once in combat unless absolutely necessary.

  China, the Ceramic Beast
Posted by: China - 10-30-2017, 03:03 AM - Forum: Joining - Replies (2)

Character Name: China, the Ceramic Beast

Character Source: Original

Character History:
China was 'born' in a strange and fantastical world, filled to the brim with magic and supernatural beings... the only problem was that magic was notoriously difficult to learn, which meant that only a select few could really master it, and even then it almost invariably required decades of rigorous study. Inevitably, these elite individuals ended up as the planet's ruling class, whilst the lower orders waited on them hand and foot.

China was created many, many years ago by one such high-class individual, an Archmage whose speciality was what he liked to call 'Generation Magic'; a cross between Life Magic, Summoning Magic, and Enchantment Magic. It allowed him to imbue inanimate objects and animate life forms with all sorts of magical energies, shaping them and binding them to his will.

China was originally an old, cracked Ming vase, which he found sitting in one of his closets whilst drunk one night; he had invited over some friends and acquaintances for a party he was hosting, and had decided to entertain the ladies by showing off his skills, so was on the lookout for any random objects he didn't need anymore. He ended that night sharing a bed with a Witch forty-two years his junior; a sprightly young lass of only sixty-seven, she was.

In the meantime, 'the Ceramic Beast', as his master had christened him, spent the night wandering around and interacting with the master's other creations, and was given the name 'China' by them, since his full title (like the rest of the names the old man was fond of giving) was too much effort to use in casual conversation. It didn't take him long to realise that he was firmly at the bottom of the pecking order, though... even amongst the rest of those his master had made whilst utterly wasted.

Fine china may be beautiful, but it's hardly renowned as being the most effective weapon of war. Compared to the solid steel titans, vastly muscled demonic horrors, mysterious oaken sentinels and various and sundry other awe-inspiring beings, China was all but worthless. Thus, it came as no surprise to anyone when the Archmage booted him out of the house a few weeks later; Mages often warred amongst themselves, and the master didn't need any weaklings slowing his army down.

From there he wandered aimlessly all across the world, usually being chased off in short order by humans or more powerful beasts whenever he sought to settle, until at last he found a forest filled only with small and weak animals; it was perfect for him. He hunted there, very, very slowly growing more confident as he became acclimatised to his new home. It even got to the point where occasionally he would snatch something tasty from one of the nearby fields as well, when he was sure no one would spot him stealing their livestock.

Before long, the people of the nearby village grew tired of this thief, whom they assumed to be just another human, and began sending in small search parties to root him out... this proved to be a mistake, though, as they were but farmers, armed with nothing more dangerous than scythes and pitchforks. Attacking by dropping rocks from the trees above or by leaping out from the bushes, he was able to take them by surprise and slaughter them every time, usually without taking so much as a scratch...

And soon, China developed a taste for human flesh.

The forest was avoided altogether from that point on, the peasants calling it a cursed place... and as time passed, the rumours only grew as they were recounted, until they were all convinced that hordes of ferocious beasts lurked within those trees...

Eventually, the people grew fearful enough to hire a Mage, under the impression that what dwelled there could come out and slaughter them all on a whim... this man they paid was no Archmage, as the master had been, but he was exceptionally powerful for his age – no more than thirty-eight! – and a master of Celestial-Style Summoning Magic. In an attempt at showing off his awe-inspiring powers, as such young'uns are prone to doing, the man called forth a colossal, flying, Seige-Type Angel, hundreds of meters wide, its unfurled wings and sharp, inhuman body filling the sky in every direction, as it prepared to attack.

It was an utterly absurd level of overkill. There was absolutely nothing China, the weakest of his master's creations, could possibly do but watch, as it spat forth an orb of Divine Light, bright enough to incinerate the entire forest, along with any unfortunate man-eaters hiding within...

A fraction of a second before he ought to have died, though, that universe vanished from his sight, and a very confused Ceramic Beast found himself face-to-face with Omni...
Getting Down to Business (Closed)
Posted by: Jack Darby - 10-29-2017, 10:49 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (11)

Once he had returned to Coruscant after an unsuccessful trip to the Nexus to take his mind off of things,  Matthew paused to consider. What was his problem? Why did he keep missing the target every time he shot the bow and arrow? Each time he shot it he was calm. Maybe that was it. Maybe what he needed was not calm, but adrenaline. Adrenaline like perhaps hunting down some of the criminals on the lower tiers, and bringing them to justice. Of course at some point he was going to have to align with the Empire so that he could gain some help down there. It beat the cops shooting at him later, anyway. In any case he had made his way back to the elevator that led to the lower tiers, selected Tier Five, and proceeded down there.

Once more the very familiar, and yet unwelcome signs of the lower Tier greeted him. Buildings that had been spray-painted, and tagged with graffiti. Houses that had been ruined, by people blowing up parts of them. Dead bodies, in the case of some that had been mugged improperly. Really, someone had to be the hero down here, but he was not sure he fit the bill, at least not yet anyway.

Heading to the area he called home, the old mansion that was little more than a disguise for his true home Matthew sighed. What he needed were more pieces of home, like the bow and arrow he had relieved some of the thugs of. There had to be more pieces of home in the Omniverse that he could use for his own purposes and perhaps even use to his advantage.

  Isabelle Ninja Village Brain Storm

So as you may or may not know, Dark Data had flushed a lot of my plans down the toilet. My next storyline was going to be kart racing with the Koopas, but that may be on hold, probably indefinitely.

Now that Izzy has relocated to the Tangled, I feel I should do an adventure that's Tangled related, and with Snake up for approvals as, I think that should be Ninja Village related.

But I'm coming up blank on what Izzy should do there.

Keep in mind, she's not combat oriented so participating in a tournament is a no go. Nor is she really stealthy, so I'm thinking something more social. Do you guys have any ideas? Weird ideas are preferable. I did have Isabelle race F Zero after all.
