Can someone give a quick look over my move? Other than that, I got it, sheet's ready to go.
CHARACTER NAME:
Meruem, usually known to his subjects as simply "King", or "The King".
CHARACTER SOURCE:
Hunter x Hunter (2011 anime based on the manga)
CHARACTER HISTORY:
See Hunter x Hunter wiki. Everything is canon, and we resume Meruem's story after
his death,
where he wakes up in the Omniverse devoid of most of his power.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Meruem stands at 5'9" and looks like this.
STATS:
ATK: 3
DEF: 3
SPD: 3
TEC: 2
Stat Upgrade I (1000)
STARTING PROFICIENCIES:
Physical Strength (1000)
STARTING POWERS:
None.
STARTING MOVES:
Tail (600)
A prehensile tail which can contract to around five feet, or extend to up to twelve feet, as quickly and easily as he can move the limb itself. The ~20cm needle-point protrusion from the tip is hard and sharp enough to slice and puncture. As a show of confidence, Meruem will sometimes cross his arms and fight using only his tail.
300 for basic tail.
300 for changing length.
I decided Elasticity shouldn't be required, because of the same exception its big-brother power, Malleability has: "Note: To create specific applications of malleability such as turning your limbs into weapons, you will need to purchase a move. Limited shapeshifts such as this do not require Malleability or the Shapeshifting power." Though it's literally just saving me 100 OM, I'd never use Elasticity except for the tail and never longer than 12 feet.
I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.
I wrote the motherfuckers.
Where did you find us?
I made this site.

So I'm curious, and I haven't seen a thread about it (or at least not one within the last 10 or so pages of Discussion.) What inspired YOUR character? This is primarily for Original Characters, or "Derived" characters (Can be set in a prefabricated universe IE an anime fiction.) If you've taken a Canon character in a COMPLETELY different direction though... I'd like to know why you changed them so much?

I’ve been preparing my third character and I need help recognizing some gun models. I know the general group names of guns and I know the model of her main weapon, but coming blank in the models of the others. I think they are all based on real guns... anyways, just need the models so I can look up info for moves.
1. Some sort of rifle:
2. Some sort of pump shotgun:

Coruscant, Tier 3. Two hours later.
Breakfast had been nice. It was quiet, even with the twins present. Two tired, even at ten AM. Stein was content with the quiet, and everyone ate their fill. Even Mrs. Davenport showed up, but she was just as quiet. She seemed to be more than a little exhausted – which Stein found weird. Don’t old people automatically become morning types? He thought so.
It was back to work now. He had used the elevator ride down for a few stretching exercises, to get the juices flowing and whatnot. Sleeping in a cozy bed was all well and good, but hammered till unconsciousness and sprawled out on the floor was another matter entirely. He felt more sore than when riddled with bullets. Well… almost.
Ding! As the door opens, Stein is immediately met with a few rather rough looking ‘gentlemen.’ He tensed, readying for the assault… but they just walked in, turned and pressed a button for Tier 5. It was not till he walked out and looked over his shoulder did he see the three were each readying an assortment of sci-fi looking firearms. Clearly something was going down. With a quick jolt, he was sliding back into the elevator before the doors closed.
“Wrong floor!” He chirped with a chuckle. He tried to sound nervous… but he lacked acting skills. It just sounded awkward. That was fine. Awkward worked. “So, uh... you guys going… hunting?” He said, feigning ignorance. They wielded assault rifles and pistols, not what he would associate with hunting at all.
One of the men smirked, while the other two peered at each other nervously. The more burly man spoke. “Yea, what’s it to you, bub?” He had a voice like gravel scraped across a chalkboard under the tire of a diesel engine.
“I was just curious… I’ve never been this low! I’m usually just hanging around the first Tier, they have all the best restaurants…” This spiked another group look. That is exactly what Stein wanted… to them he sounded like a lost tourist, easy picking. With the slightest nod of one of the shorter men, he felt the barrel of a gun against his back. “H-hey now! What’re you doing?” Damn that was cringe worthy.
“Shuddup and hand over your valuables!” The smaller of the three was eager, his voice was a few pitches too high even for his size.
“What my companion means to say… is if you want to make it back to your cozy penthouse… empty your pockets…” The gravel grinds again. It was almost irritating the way that rough baritone rang around the tight compartment.
Stein’s hands reach into his pockets as demanded and out comes that little Bluetooth webcam – already recording to his phone. “I’ll take that!” The middle man chimed, reaching over Stein’s shoulder. Stein’s hand jerks forward, jamming the clip of the camera between the elevator’s doors. “The fuck you d-“ Stein’s foot followed and with a strong kick he lept back into the man behind him, mid-man into shorty for a unison of grunts.
“Wise guy, aye?” Stein took it back… THAT was cringe worthy. The larger man pointed the barrel of his gun at Stein. There was a moment of fear in his eyes.
It too was a ruse. “Please don’t shoot me Mr. Badguy! I’m just a – zoink!” Stein plugged the barrel with his finger. He really wedged it in there too. “Haha! Now I’ve gotcha!” The look of annoyance on biggy Mombasa was priceless. Instead of just firing, which would have been smart, he takes a hand off the gun and takes a jab right at Stein’s face.
That shiver ran up his spine and almost before he was punching, Stein was tilting his head. Mid-guy yelped before taking a bite of a knuckle sandwich he did not order. “Swing and a miss!” Biggy was a little startled. “You going for round two?”
“Fuck you, hero!” A line Stein has heard many times before. That crawling sensation returned, much more violent than before. He saw the finger tightening on the trigger and with an audible pop he retracts his finger, the other hand grabbing the top of the gun and shifting the aim as he shifted the other direction.
His ears rang, the sounds of shouts filled the elevator and before he realized fully what had happened, he realized his hand was numb and stinging at the same time. The top of the gun apparently got very hot, and he had not considered that. Being the first to recover, he saw a rather horrifying scene before him; mid-guy was now down one arm, and shorty was slumped to the ground, wide eyed and unresponsive.
That is NOT a semi-automatic, it’s a god damn hand cannon! “Holy shit! What did you do?”
Biggy was stunned. Clearly this is not what he intended. The weapon dropped to the ground and his hands rose to his head. Wide eyed, he stepped back to the other corner. “Dini’ell… Shit, fuck, shit!” His voice rose to a normal octave. It had been faked… a persona to frighten people, no doubt. “Look what you did!” He shouted, glaring at Stein.
“What I did? That was all you! Who fires a damn cannon in an elevator! Sweet maceral on a stick, where did you even get something like that?!” As a follow up, Stein quickly picked up the discarded weapons. Mid-guy’s screams mixed with the symphony of yelling back and forth. With the weapon in hand, Biggy wedged himself as far as he could in the corner. “Stop, I’m not going to shoot, I’m the good guy.”
This is not what I wanted. Apparently not everyone down here was as weak as the first couple of guys. Just like the brawler when he arrived, there were powerhouses. Stein quickly dismantled the gun, yanking bits till he found out how to unlock them. He took what he assumed was the clip, it looked like some sort of energy weapon. He then tossed the bulk of the gun to the ground.
The clattering of metal against metal broke a newborn silence. It had been there only for a second, it almost felt like the drop of the gun is what brought it. Mid-guy had stopped screaming. When Stein turned his gaze onto the man, he stared off into space, blood pooling from his mouth and the empty shoulder.
Ding! The door opened. Stein quickly caught the camera before it could hit the ground, then left the scene behind. His breath was rapid, his heart racing. He could hear Biggy’s voice, somewhere between screaming and sobbing.
I was just going to beat them up. I was just going to beat them up. I was just going to beat them up! This was not the first time he let someone slaughter another… but it was the first time that the killer broke down like Biggy had… Stein’s team usually consisted of hardened warriors, used to the ending of life and perversion of their innocence. That man had never killed another soul in his life… and now he has killed what had to have been two of his close friends. Or worse… his family…
Stein had to find another elevator. He suddenly felt very… very ill…

You're honestly not sure what's going on anymore-- you recall the pain just moments before unconciousness, you remember the gnome that you grew close to. Not even a day had passed.
And you failed. You failed them.
Tears start to roll down your face. You fall to your knees, helpless to do anything but cry. Your sobs echo throughout the black, but remain unheard. Your mind starts to wonder if you'll ever see your friends again, only to be interrupted by something passing through your torso. You blink, confused, then you turn to see what is trying to touch you.
It's him. You know that face when you see it. His lack of a mouth, ears, and nose was something only he had. You know that the 9-foot-tall being in front of you, wearing a black jumpsuit, cared for you. Loved you. No matter what happened, no matter what you did, he was always by your side. Even when you desired to take your blade for a spin, you wouldn't hurt him. And he knew that.
You smile, still crying, as you try to hug him. Alas, your body passes through his. You take a moment to glance at yourself, noting that your skin is translucent. Too mentally strained to say anything, you look up at him, only able to watch and wait for an answer.
"You're not really here," Masada said, kneeling down to meet her eyes. "At least I think you're not."
His deep, melodic voice is like music to your ears. You almost feel like you're back in your own dreams, but you know that couldn't be-- that door was closed to you ever since you arrived here in the Omniverse. Your dreams were nearly nonexistent nowadays, save those visions you received back in Coruscant.
"Hey, do you want to head to my spaceship? I can try to explain things there."
You nod, relishing the thought of familiarity. You reach over to grab his hand, but it passes through and you remember that you can't actually touch him. Instead, you follow him further into the black.
Slowly but surely, the world takes shape, colors snaking into the sky, creatures approaching and watching with awe, knowing that their dreamer has finally returned. You can even recognize some of them-- Poniko, Monoe, Monoko. You try to greet them, but your vocal cords still won't do anything.
Eventually something white comes into view. The spaceship. Your gasp and run over to it, touching it. You can still feel it. Finally you have a shred of evidence telling you that you still exist. You and Masada run in, and nostalgia washes over you. The humongous window above the ship-wide piano glitters in starlight, and you sit down in one of the two chairs. He makes his way towards the instrument, pressing down on the keys. A lovely set of notes reach your ears, and the spacecraft lifts off into the air-- well, you think it's going up, although the view outside the window shifted from a starry sky to a countryside with a blue horizon.
"Welcome to the Astral Verse," he says, not even looking away from the window, "the world of dreams."

The shinobi sat upon his steed trying to work out where to go. While the steel gate looked reminiscent of days gone past the troops, the ones with the guns, Ryu didn’t want to get anywhere near that. Furthermore, jungles or a beach, that didn’t seem like his cup of tea right now either. However the gate with the hewn stone, the one he saw soldiers coming through with spears, that one did look promising. He knew that his sword would fair better against a spear than a gun if push came to shove so he set off once more. With a slow trot his horse turned and headed back towards the fountain, he remembered that the gate he was looking for was directly opposite from the one he was currently in front of. Nudging his colt on the horse picked up speed, however still traveling well under its max as Ryu had found out but a few hours earlier.
He soon came upon the fountain, or as it appeared at this time, a floating hourglass, grains of sand, at least that's what the ninja thought it was, flowing down peacefully. As the last grain reached the bottom half the timer flipped itself over and started the process anew. Ryu was fascinated by this development, still trying to take in as much of his new surroundings as he could. He nudged his horse again and he picked up the pace again, with the ninja turning his attention back to the looming gate of stone off in the distance. Sooner than he thought the clean-cut stones were clearly distinguishable from one another and the purple “ooze” pulsated outwards and he drew nearer to it. He reared the horse, stopping within inches of the gate. Peering into it was no use, he couldn’t see to the other side. Ryu thought of what he might find on the other side, but as he continued to question it the horse grew impatient. He trotted forward, entering the purple gel, bringing Ryu along with him.
Cold washed over the ninja as he passed through the gate, his eyes shut, not wanting to think about what he might see. However in that same instant it was gone. He left a rush of chilled air, heard the song of birds, and slowly opened his eyes. A bright yellow sun hung within the sky, clouds dotting the blue horizon. The gate sit upon a hill, looking out over a lush forest and grasslands below him. In the distance a castle, beautiful white shimmering as the sun danced off the clean stone.
“Next time wait for my signal,” he said down to his horse as he nudged him again and they set off down the side of the hill towards the castle. How could this be real? He had come from a room of pure white to a real world. Ryu shifted in his saddle as the horse kept his pace. He leaned to the left, running his fingertips through the grass as he rode further down the hill. It was real grass alright. How is this possible? He couldn’t believe it. Nothing to something, and all separated by a stupid gate. He readjusted himself and continued on, snapping the reins against the horse signifying he wanted to speed up. His companion complied and before he it he was again racing along the terrain at top speed. He had to admit to himself that this was definitely nicer to look at then the plan white place he had been before.
He heard a squawk from above and turned his attention skywards to see a group of birds darting every which way as a horse with wings dove through them, scattering the birds to the wind. Ryu’s mouth hung ajar as he saw a rider on the back of the horse with wings…Why….I mean how...I me….when can I get me one of them?
“Ow, watch out will ya?” came a shout that broke through the amazement Ryu was feeling at the moment. Being brought back to reality he shifted his gaze to in front of him only to see a large man in heavy full plate armor blocking his path. The ninja reacted as quickly as he could, but there was not enough time to salvage the situation. He pulled hard on the reins to the right and the horse skid, trying to stop himself. The momentum they had built up led to the horse flipping end over end. Ryu threw himself from the saddle, planting a hand on the ground and propelling himself back to his feet. The horse, on the other hand, was not so lucky. With a sickening snap that rang through the air his two front legs broke apart, bones splintering out from his shins.
“Ooooh, tough luck friend, horses are a bit expensive in these parts, I’m sure you’re aware, but that’s what you get for not paying attention.”
Ryu shrugged off these words, maybe Sir Talks Alot needed to him his own business and learn to sidestep.
“Well, I made this horse...I wonder if…” he trailed off as he walked over to the horse. Stretching out his arms again the horse began to glow with the same brilliant rainbow of colors.
“Oh so you’re a Prime are you, well isn’t that handy…”
The process stopped, Ryu was distracted.
“Sure, whatever you say, do you mind giving me a minute here, kinda my first time doing this.”
“Oh, yea, sure thing.”
Thankful for just a moment of silence Ryu concentrated again. He wasn’t sure if he could heal the horse, and well, he really didn’t want to try and fail with this guy here, so instead, he thought of just one thing, taking whatever Omnilium that he had used to summon the horse, and extract it back into his body. It appeared to be working, the form of the horse, again lit up in a brilliant display of colors began to shrink. Slowly it worked its way down until it was nothing but a ball, floating upwards and towards the ninja. It entered his chest and dissipated into his body.
“Now, what was that you were saying about being a Prime?”

| Upcoming Level and Balance Changes - For Review |

The current level requirements were made 4 years ago, before we had any real "data" to go on, and they are pretty basic. Cost increases go up 1000 OM per level (with the exception of the first increase, which is that way because the initial starting OM was 4000 before it was raised to 5000). It's ... fine, I guess. But four years gives a lot of time to watch the system in action, and to think about how it might be improved.
For quite a while now I've had the idea of changing the level goalposts to do two main things.
1: Speeding up the low level progression, so that new players and characters can quickly become competitive with SP, especially in competitions like DA.
2: Putting a steeper curve at the higher levels to keep high-level characters from being runaway freight trains of SP usage.
The majority of our long-term players sit around the 10,000-30,000 range, and I feel they should have a little more SP to play with since, with player rotation, the majority of our memberbase will likely always sit around that level range. I don't want people to have sunk years into the site and still feel like they've not reached any real power. Those first couple of level increases are rather painful right now.
Here's the idea behind the numbers below: you get up to level 3 quickly, and then slow down, leaving the majority of active players in the 3-6 level range. At level 6, you're pretty good, and every level beyond this point will feel like a hard-earned milestone. At level 10, cost increases go up to 3000, because you're already very strong. At level 12, which I feel should be the 'soft cap' of sorts, cost increases start going up exponentially.
So, here are the proposed changes to levels. Included are the cost increases between each level, for easy reference.
1: 5000 (Starting OM, Tier 1 Super Moves Unlocked)
+1000
2: 6000 (Tier 1 Assists and Transformations Unlocked!)
+2000
3: 8000
+4000
4: 12,000 (Tier 2 Super Moves Unlocked!)
+6000
5: 18,000
+7000
6: 25,000 (Tier 2 Assists and Transformations Unlocked!)
+9000
7: 34,000
+11,000
8: 45,000 (Tier 3 Super Moves Unlocked!)
+13,000
9: 58,000
+15,000
10: 73,000 (Tier 3 Assists and Transformations Unlocked!)
+18,000
11: 91,000
+21,000
12: 112,000
+25,000
13: 137,000
+30,000
14: 167,000
+36,000
15: 203,000
+43,000
16: 246,000
+51,000
17: 297,000
+70,000
18: 367,000
+90,000
19: 457,000
+101,000
20: 558,000
Bear in mind, this doesn't change what you actually buy with OM, itself. I'm pretty happy with OM pricing for things across the board. We pay so much attention to it and we've frequently rebalanced. So ... someone with 200,000 OM, even without the SP, is still gonna have a shitload of things that give them an advantage over a low-level player. Stats, powers, alternate forms, a carnival of moves.
Most folks would gain a level. Only one character - Gildarts - would lose a level. I'm willing to make an exception for Sammy so she can stay level 12 even though she's under it, if she wants. That said, I think that most high-level folks will greater appreciate their alts being more competitive more quickly. We'll see more SP use early on, leading to more fun and interesting fights as a whole on this site.
Where to put the unlock goalposts was a separate matter entirely. However, this update seemed like the best time to look at those, too.
I decided after some furious self-debate to move the requirements for Tier 2 Transformations up a bit. Right now, I feel like you unlock them before you even really have enough SP to make it worthwhile to buy. Thus it's not that exciting when you do unlock them. It certainly wasn't for me. I didn't even buy one for Samus until she was already nearly level 6. Of course, people who already have those can keep them.
Tier 3 Power-Ups are meant to feel rare and impressive. But that's pointless if nobody ever gets them. Level 10 seems like a good point. They'd still be rare, but 3 people (Gildarts, Proto Man and Guu) would actually have them, and be feared.
Putting Tier 3 Super Moves inbetween, at level 8, gives a nice inbetween goal to shoot for, and I feel like Super Moves get a lot more use and utility, that's where players are creative. This spread also gives a nice series of unlocks every 2 levels after level 2, so characters are never too far away from the next exciting goalpost.
After doing this, I also decided to look at the "XP curve" for the other long-term purchases. Frankly, things like Stat Increase X, Level 20, and such, were always meant to be theoretical limits that were never actually reached. With that in mind, I wanted to implement more of an exponential curve. Here's what those changes would look like:
Stat Upgrade I 1000 OM
Stat Upgrade II 2000 OM (3000 total)
Stat Upgrade III 4000 OM (7000 total)

Power-Up Boost V (+5/10/20) 160,000 OM (310,000 total)
Stat Upgrade IV is actually slightly cheaper, it's worth adding. These changes don't affect anyone right now.
Finally (and far more important than the above, in my opinion), I looked at the costs for increasing your Powers Cap. As mentioned in the Powers page, we like the feeling that Powers are unique and character-defining. On a previous RPG I was on, the admin had all the powers, and even he said it wasn't fun. The Power Cap cost increases seemed hella high when I implemented it, but long-term, just like these other numbers, the cost increases were too "flat" and needed to be more of a real exponential curve. With that in mind, I made these:
8000 OM is the default Powers Cap.
Tier 1 Powers Cap (12,000) – costs 2000 OM
Tier 2 Powers Cap (16,000) – costs +3000 OM (5000 OM total)
Tier 3 Powers Cap (20,000) – costs +5000 OM (10,000 OM total)
Tier 4 Powers Cap (24,000) – costs +8,000 OM (18,000 OM total)
Tier 5 Powers Cap (28,000) – costs +12,000 OM (30,000 OM total)
Tier 6 Powers Cap (32,000) – costs + 17,000 OM (47,000 OM total)
Tier 7 Powers Cap (36,000) – costs + 23,000 OM (60,000 OM total)
Remove Powers Cap – costs +30,000 OM (90,000 OM total)
For reference, 37,300 is the cost of all powers.
I believe a couple of people with the Tier 3 Powers Cap currently might lose 1000 OM, here, but not a big deal.
With these changes, you can expect to see some changes to alt unlock requirements as well (I actually worked on those first, then put that on hold until I was done here, for obvious reasons).
Since these are large balance changes and the level goalposts have never been moved before, I wanted to check that this isn't going to wildly upset anyone before I implement it, and give a "heads up" before I just drop it in updates.
