It had learned to despise new things.
New things brought nothing but trouble. Things that were old hat, now those were good. Delicious, even, often filled with rich food and screaming, fleshy hominid meals. New... new was not something It wanted.
So, as the (frightening, terrible, scary— all newnewnew new! ) suddenness of Its crumpling defeat faded, It was even more enraged (fearful) to discover Itself drifting into yet another new state of being. A state where It was at an enormously strong being's mercy, instead of at the mercy of seven idiot human children.
(The aforementioned being could only ever be enormously strong— otherwise, how could it have ever succeeded in ensnaring It? How could it have dared? )
The strange other being had white skin and four limbs. No eyes, no snout, just a wide, smiling mouth filled with teeth. It appeared to be a perfect facsimile of the human form. Omni, it called itself, and It was not impressed. Actually, to be more precise, It was too busy being terrified and angry in equal measure. It was unable to move or voice Its mindless rage-loathing-hate. Unable to wrench Itself free and do what It usually did with all of Its most troubling of problems, aside from that stupid, lazy Turtle: Eat them. So instead It howled and roared and spat in the privacy of Its own headspace, but kept an ear focused on Omni's cheerful, odious explanation that chipped away at every facet of the comfortable existence It had grown so acclimated to.
Before It had arrived there, in that seemingly endless black void gripped within Omni's power, there had been a shrinking sensation, like a magician beckoning one of those colorful cloth trails back up into his sleeve, the myriad of hues slithering back into the mysterious space they usually inhabited. It was like so much cloth, squares of primary color and intricate transformations vanishing into this pale being's metaphorical sleeve, until all that remained was Its most favored of forms, one that children adored yet feared beneath Its layers of disguises. The wily clown, twinkling sterling-silver bells and all, dangling like a puppet in Omni's invisible grip.
It had never felt so... so powerless. Weakened? Yes. Diminished? Okay, maybe a little. But powerless? Never. It was too clever for that, too careful. Derry, Maine had been an excellent hunting ground for that exact reason, filled with imaginative fools and the potential to lull those fools into a state not unlike a dream (unable to tell that the sharp maw of danger was closing in around them until it was far, far too late), and yet, It could acknowledge that it had become somewhat overconfident in Its management of Its primary food source.
Most of the time, humans just weren't able to discern their proper place on the food chain, which was right about how It liked it. It had been exceedingly careful, almost to the point of overcompensation, never allowing for the adult human minds to even consider Its true presence... That is, until the first child escaped, and then the next, and then the next, until eventually all of them, those Losers, joined together as a united force to combat It. The fear that It felt as Omni kept Its form suspended and trapped was similar to the fear It had felt all the way back in the summer of 1958, but rage burned clear and orange in Its cosmic belly, expanding inward in infinite fractals of hunger, pain, and desirous wrath.
A pale-fingered hand reached out, holding an orb of swirling colors aloft. The glowing sphere shimmered and sparkled brilliantly, almost like how the yolk of an egg that has been frozen over and crystallized looks when sunlight strikes it just right, a sublime and striking contrast to Omni's chalk-white skin. Knife-sharp curiosity sliced through Its inner tempestuous fold, the incandescence of lustrous anger fading like traces of starlight. It looked upon this orb of many colors and promptly began to salivate, the deadlights of Its eyes flashing a bright coppery gold.
Omni ceased speaking while the sewer-inhabiting extraterrestrial stewed in Its furiously churning brain. The clown-shaped creature barely had time to blink before It was dropping, fading, plummeting toward something both inevitable and painfully bright—

The shield maiden of Rohan stood tall and proud amidst the Riders as the Rohirrim arrayed themselves to break the siege that threatened the towers of the white city. Théoden of Rohan would lead the charge, and even now was rallying the men, hardening their hearts for the hour of steel that was nearly upon them. For her part, Dernhelm was as one fay, for she sought glory, and death, were it to follow upon glory’s heels would be accepted without lament.
As Snowmane bore the king of Rohan nearer, Dernhelm bent her brow, turning her face from her liege. Though her nature was concealed to all save the halfling by the helm of her secrecy, she could not meet her uncle’s eyes. Théoden rode past, voice clear and fell with the foresight of one who rides to their death. This was an hour for shriven shields, a last ride for honor and renown, before the end of all things. Dernhelm’s head rose once again, And the pride of Riddermark was in her glance, an echo of dreams long since relegated to the dust.
The blade of Théoden rose, glinting with the light of the newborn dawn. Along the lines, the horns of the Riddermark were lifted, a thunderous timbre that was rivaled only by the clamor of warriors on the verge of battle. Dernhelm’s own cry joined the chorus, as did Merriadoc’s, though in the tumult their voices were accorded little pause. Then as one great tide, the Riders of Rohan built speed, a force of power, a hammer of the west, all purpose bent on the ruin of the forces of Mordor.
Dernhelm rode with a fervor, and Windfola pulled ever nearer to the front as the Rohirrim’s charge drew neigh of their foe. Her Ashen spear was held at ready, and the barrow-blade of Merry was unsheathed as well. The Emerald wave struck hard and fast, and the forces of Sauron were dismayed. Their ranks fell to ruin and many orcs were felled or trampled underfoot.
Yet amidst the very triumph of Rohan, a black shadow swept over the battlefield, and Théoden king was assailed by a dark shape astride a terrible beast. Snowmane faltered, and the king of Rohan was struck from his saddle, trapped beneath his slain steed, as the Lord of Nazgul drew nearer. Dernhelm’s sight was clouded, and it seemed to her as though she had slipped sideways in her saddle, and fallen into a pool of darkness. A half-remembered dream assailed her senses and when clarity returned at last she found herself in a cloaking pitch as black as the most forbidden pits in Angband. Then the warrior’s spirit quailed, and a desperation took root upon her heart.
Then like the spark of flint on steel she perceived a pale figure, its white light a focus in the choking blackness. The being spoke, strange words of power of which Dernhelm could grasp but little. When the darkness was lifted from her eyes, the slaughter of Pelennor was vanished, leaving only a pale white expanse, upon which small specks of color and darkness could only intrude.
For some time Dernhelm remained seated by the pool, its depths eluding the all-encompassing light. At last, a new vigor shook her into motion, and she rose, arrayed in mail and emerald cloak. No sword bore she, nor shield, nor ashen spear, but without recourse, friendless and alone, she craved a full account above all.
“The halls of the house of Eorl are not set amidst a marble field.” She spoke at length, and the timbre of her voice went forth into the expanse.
“Be this fell magic of the Enemy or some fevered dream of horrors yet foretold, I shall have the telling, of this I swear.” And so resolved she set forth at once, and without burden of choice, for each direction seemed as hollow and empty as the other.

That look… that look in his little Starlord’s eyes… it made Yondu look back and regret so much. Well, some things. Nevertheless, to see that look in Quill’s eyes made the blistering cold worth every second. Was it worth giving up his status among the Ravagers to save this scrawny boy?
Hell yea it was.
And now this was it…. Darkness. Denied a Ravager’s funeral, his afterlife was --“Th’ hell?”
Amidst the darkness that Yondu had settled into lingered the silhouette of a person; a boy maybe? Whatever or whoever it was, they just seemed to smile at him. It was an eerie smile that left even Yondu a bit uncomfortable, like the eyes of a stalker lording it over his prey. Reminded him a bit of that duts Tazerface.
The figure introduced itself, a simplistic name.. Omni. The smuggler’s silver capped teeth bared in a deep grimace. Why did he get the feeling this was Ego’s littler, smugger cousin? Just a bad sense. “Rules? I ain’t --”
Omni continued to speak, regardless of Yondu’s attempt to speak; finding that he is mute.. He was handed an orb of rainbows. The hell is this fruity shit… He turned it over in his hand for a moment, a brow slowly rising. Actually… He held the orb out to examine it from afar. This’d be great on my dash… The figure called it Omnilium. He/she/whatever the hell it was definitely had Ego written all over its featureless face.
Others were mentioned… and rebirth. Hell, maybe this is ain’t so bad after all! Was there anything better than picking fights with no consequence? That grimace turned into a half-cocked grin. When the silhouette fades, he finds his rather angelic voice had been returned to him. First words in the Omniverse, make them good.
As the world turns white, Yondu dusts remnant frost from the blue of his cheeks. “Guess I better put on a good show.” His first act for his new Overlord’s entertainment was an Earthen gesture Quill had taught him years back, involving the middle finger.
Now that that’s done… Yondu shifts his trench coat, then sits on the edge of the fountain. That should keep that cocksucker happy for a few minutes. Just long enough to let Yondu gather his thoughts.

If one had told the Quarterback of Chaos that he would need medical care a day ago, Warren wouldn't have had believed them. Yet the beating he had received because of someone who had been using his identity was not something he liked to think about. Someone had impersonated him, and had used his moniker. Just what was the situation, and why had the person done so? The answer to this was not known to the Quarterback of Chaos. Okay, there were many things he didn't presently know such as why his NFL-R was not working and sending out a distress signal. Even the Guardians would be preferable to the white armored Storm Troopers but it seemed he couldn't get his NFL-R to do what he actually wanted it to, for whatever reason. If it was sabotage, whoever had sabotaged his NFL-R was going to get an earful once Warren managed to undo their tamper job on the NFL-R.
As he watched the cars rush past him in the air, Warren sighed. Why could things never be peaceful for a change? Summoning up a bottle of pills with Omnilium Warren took one of them. As the pain shot down from a searing lance to a dull throb, Warren cursed every white clad armor trooper to a slow and painful demise because of their antics, but also cursed the impersonator to a torturous death. Warren was going to find the guy who was raking his name through the mud, and put a stop to this insanity before it got any worse. After all he had nearly been killed by the Storm Troopers. There were going to be no mistakes this time around, Warren knew he had a lot of work to do before he could be ready.
The gleaming towers of Coruscant's buildings were not enough to distract him from the misery that was in his chest. Oh yes, there was going to be a reckoning with the person who had worn his identity and dragged it through the mud like this. Whoever he was, Warren was going to deal with him in due course but perhaps he was going to need a lot of equipment that he didn't have. Redeveloping the functions of his NFL-R was now an essential matter to his own survival. Back there he had been caught off guard. Such was never going to happen again if he could avoid it.

You like having more people to play with, right? That was a rhetorical question, because having more people to write with is awesome. Do you also like OM? If the answer is 'yes', which OBVIOUSLY it is, then please vote for us on the following sites!
RPGfix (every 12 hours. If you register, your votes count as x2. Worth the couple of minutes to make an account if you're going to be voting every day)
Top RP Sites (Daily)
Forum Roleplay (Daily. Please also leave a rating/review/comment!)
Top Site List Planet (Daily.)
Vote on all sites, then post here with "Vote 1". When you vote on all sites again, post "Vote 2". You are allowed to vote again 12 hours after your previous vote, and we're okay if that only affects RPGfix. However, you should be trying to vote on all sites, as the reset times vary.
Tl;dr: Vote for all the sites, put "1". Next day, do the same and put "2". If you're really hardcore, you can vote every 12 hours, but it's not necessary.
If we find out your votes aren't being counted (and yes, we take the times you voted into account) we will give you the benefit of the doubt the first time as a mistake. However, if it happens again, or if we think you're not bothering or simply haven't read this, we will remove your voting privileges and you will no longer be eligible for this monthly bonus.
At the end of the month, if you posted ...
5-10 times: You get 100 OM.
11-16 times: You get 200 OM.
17-22 times: You get 300 OM.
23-28 times: You get 400 OM.
29+ times: 500 OM, and a fistbump from me for being so damn diligent.
If you have an alternate character and wish to claim your reward on that account as opposed to your main one, please let us know in the topic before the month ends. If you don't, we'll assume you want the OM on the account you posted with.
Thanks for voting everyone! If you have time, please also leave a vote and review for us on Top RPG sites(once only). [/b]

Okay, so, it would seem as though we have multiple concerns who are interested in moving into Nippur in the hopes of revitalizing and potentially governing that particular section of the Endless Dunes.
Now before this all just gets mashed together haphazardly and becomes the Omniverse's newest salt-lick, I feel as though it's prudent to lay everything out on the table and make sure we can at least come to some sort of consensus as to what we're all getting in to. For the sake of easy reference, here is all of the current canonical information about Nippur:
Quote:The collapse of Nippur (stemming from the banishing of Gilgamesh), the banishing of Ganondorf, and the disappearance of Sinestro has returned to Dunes to what it was in the aftermath of the Imperial withdrawal -- chaos and little more. The Town with No Name endures, and Carreforre has continued to develop its own, unique identity.
Quote:Travel into the interior of the Dunes from Carrefore and Coruscant has grown more common as well, at least in the months since the Gold Cross has attempted to placate the discord in Nippur.
Quote:A town founded by King Gilgamesh and his loyal followers. Nippur grew quickly after its founding and attracted settlers from the more remote parts of the Dunes seeking refuge beneath the leadership of a man deemed a 'controversial' individual due to his penchant for violence and strong-armed responses to opposition. Nippur resembles an ancient Middle Eastern town, with sandstone walls, temples, and other various structures. Like many locations in the Omniverse, its culture is not homogenous, and there are plenty of more 'modern' structures, utilities, and services.
A monarchy led by a charismatic man with a deeply developed cult of personality, Nippur was thrown into permanent disarray when it suffered a string of attacks. Two solitary acts of violence against Nippur was followed by a full-scale assault by a force of primes under the loose leadership of Sinestro, the Deputy of the Town with No Name. Breaching the walls of the city, the primes besieged the streets of the city. Various skirmishes broke out throughout Nippur's districts. The Siege of Nippur was not as lop-sided as many journalists and historians account, but during the battle, King Gilgamesh was defeaten and banished. Without their leader and with many of his lieutenants abroad, the city fell into chaos.
With no one to fill the power vacuum, Nippur's people fractured as some clung to the old regime and others sought something new. Alongside this internal strife, the city also became the target of various raids from nomadic warlords and psychopaths. The Golden Cross, an organization set up by several inter-verse companies, has sought to provide the city with humanitarian aid, although successes are limited due to the Dunes' chaotic nature.
Quote:Q: “Wasn’t Nippur a faction base?”
A: Yes, it was, it belonged to Gilgamesh, and the stories of its creation, rise, and fall are there for you to read. Gilgamesh has been inactive for at least a year, if not longer, and the faction he created has been gone for nearly as long. Nippur was ransacked in a base assault, which has led to its current state (perpetual civil war and general malaise of its citizenry). If Gilgamesh returns, it’ll be there for him to claim, since the initial investment was his own OM. Currently, Nippur is treated like any larger settlement in the Omniverse due to its history and former influence. If Gilgamesh returns, it will resume its duties as his base, but in the absence of that, it is officially considered the city version of a Site NPC.
So what is clear to me is that there is a lot going on in Nippur, with a lot of potential for deep story, subterfuge, intrigue and a dash of guerilla warfare. Rather than this devolving into the utter hell that was Legacy and War, I think we could all perhaps take a step back and agree on what we do and don't want to happen here. To do so, I think we all need to identify who is going to Nippur, what they want, and who they're going to meet. This includes NPCs, of which there are none currently in Nippur but really there should be.
Ideally, we should have a few gang leaders and their games, a Golden Cross representative or two, local entrepreneurs, and some leftover courtiers from Gilgamesh's rule. I can certainly come up with all of this, but that would feel selfish and too controlling, so input from others would be nice. Otherwise it's just gonna be a giant melee and...we'll get nowhere.
As far as I'm aware, these are our PC actors:
Kopaka and Hiro (Maybe) – Acting on behalf of the Empire, will be inspecting Nippur and trying to get an idea of its current suitability for an Imperial garrison.
Anderson, Marisa, Shay Cormac, Erik – Want to go bring righteous justice to all the people squatting in Nippur/Reclaim the city for New Babs.
Aadibah and Some Person I Forgot (Maybe) – Mentioned they wanted to take Nippur for themselves.
So uh, yeah, let's get our ducks in a row before we shoot them.
