  The Spirit Wolf's Treck
Posted by: Shiro - 09-18-2014, 12:35 PM - Forum: The Astral Realm - Replies (3)

Shiro exits the cave containing his body to find himself faced with an odd sight: everything from the cattle to the great trees at the edge of the forest seemed to radiate an energy, causing the landscape around him to appear blurred as he slowly pads along down the road into the town, the people having grown strange to look at as rather than looking human their spirits were on display in their stead yet they still sounded the same as he listened to them gossip between one another.

"That man still hasn't come out of the cave has he?" one spirit asks another, the two of them appearing to be doing laundry however the activity is difficult to gauge as Shiro's mind was still unaccustomed to viewing things from this new perspective. "No... he's been in there for a week so he's probably dead... that wolf of his still won't leave and our elder said that we'd take care of it if he didn't come back... even if he was a criminal" the other spirit replies, her voice sounding older. While he'd been planning to simply walk by, he comment about his criminal status intrigued him enough that Shiro sat down nearby to listen to their gossip, his ghostly ears perking up with interest. "Mother you know as well as I do that that man was no more a criminal than I am. He not only helped us defend our town but he even went into a monster infested cave just to try and help us. That doesn't even come anywhere near what that poster described" the younger woman replies, causing the spirit wolf's tail to wag slightly in reflex however it stops when the older woman says "bah. He was probably just trying to go into hiding. I hope he did die down there"

While her rather hateful comments do anger Shiro, rather than strike at her he simply gets up and continues walking into the forest, growling to himself "criminal? i didn't break any laws though!... none that I know of anyway... wait... what about that knight?... Richard or something like that i think... he did seem pretty pissed at me... damn it! Did he make something up?! He probably did didn't he?... oh well... i guess i'll just have to deal with it when i'm out of this mess". As the frustrated wolf growls and mutters he fails to notice how the energy radiating from the trees grows more and more sinister the farther he goes until he's surrounded by dark, malevolent energy and utter silence which is soon broken by a great echoing roar that seems to have two voices, one extremely high pitched and one extremely low pitched, both sounding out at the same time "I SMELL LUNCH".

Something in Shiro told him that he was on the menu in this place so rather than just sit around waiting to be eaten he bolts through the trees at full speed, terror fueling his legs to carry him to safety, his instincts guiding him to what appears to be a camp site with a powerful spirit residing inside of it. His hopes of this place being a safe haven are soon dashed when a great mass of dark energy emerges from the trees, seeming to suck the energy from the spirits it touches as the two glowing red orbs that seemed to work as the creature's eyes round on the terrified wolf as he huddles against what feels like a protective warmth. The creature charges at the wolf only to be rebounded by a sphere of energy with a shriek of pain as part of it dissipates from the main mass, showing what could be equivalent to a wound before it slinks back into the brush. A large humanoid spirit with a green main body of energy that radiates a comforting and friendly light asks in a deep but even voice "well little wolf... it looks like you're safe for now. That demon won't be coming back for a long while. So tell me spirit, what brings you here?"

"i come seeking the one known as Thrall" Shiro replies after taking a moment to calm himself, composing himself to regain his spiritual appearance as a regal wolf rather than a terrified prey. "Well then you're in luck. You have found him" Thrall replies, his spirit seeming to smile as he asks "now why would you be seeking me little wolf?"

"My spirit was ripped from my body by a treacherous serpent without warning. I was told to come to you for learning and that by learning what you have to teach i could be returned to my body. Will you teach me what needs to be learned?" Shiro explains, ecstatic to have found Thrall so soon after he had begun his search but apprehensive at what lessons lay in store for him that the serpent had required him to be reduced to but his spirit and told to be taught by the great shaman before him in the shamanic ways of nature and spirit magic

  Spirits, afterlives and Clerics.
Posted by: Inlumia - 09-18-2014, 10:09 AM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (13)

What happens to the souls of the dead if they follow a religion? Are they just trapped in the Spiritverse, or can they go to their afterlives?

Also, if clerics call on Gods for power, would that not mean there is a connection between those inside and outside of the Omniverse?

If Inlumia made a talisman to absorb background magic and sent it to his Gods and totems, would it be able to work?

  Blizzard of questions.
Posted by: Albert Wesker - 09-17-2014, 09:25 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (13)

So, after doing some looking around and thinking over some things, I realized I have a few questions about things I'm curious about or planning to implement. Some of these are for snow cone here, some are for NPCs I have plans for later, and some are for....other things. It should mostly be obvious which are which, but they should all be general enough.

First up: Logia State. How do?
My understanding is that, as a bare minimum, Malleability is needed. That and maybe Disassemble. But my question is how would you go about letting attacks pass through you? Just RP that out well enough, following the mechanics of the powers? I would asusme so, but clarification never hurts anything. Also, about things like instinctively turning into elemental form, or letting an enemy's attack itself shatter/blast/scatter someone into their elemental form, would that just be available to someone with a high enough SPD to do it almost instanteneously, or could special applications be made to transform mid-attack and reduce the damage from incoming attacks by dispersing from their impact? Or would that be something else entirely? Again, just for clarification.

Secondly: NPC submission. How do?
I realize there's a thread for NPC submissions, but once they've been posted, what do? Is there some kind of okay that's needed, or can they just be used right away? On a similar note, is there any hard and fast limit to how many can be submitted? For instance, I have a "crew" of 4 NPCs who operate as a kind of organized crime ring, but also work on their own enough that they're distinct and seperate characters, and generally considered so complex, serpentine and redundant in their schemes and workings that they're either competent to a hilariously pointless degree or completely incompetent, with little middle ground. Would that be too many, or would a general submission of the "Crew" work, or....what? I do plan to have them be publicly available for anyone to get involved with their crazy shenanigans, and would like them to be "official" NPCs, I suppose is the word, if at all possible, but whatever is the call on this is what I'll do.

Thirdly: Group Super Attacks. What do?
I guess the first part of this question is to ask if it's even possible at all. Taking the Crew from my previous question into account, they have two techniques that require all four of them to use succesfully. So the question is: Could two (or more) characters combine their abilities and pool SP into a stronger Super Attack? Like two characters spending 2 SP each for a Tier 2 combinaiton attack? Or something along those lines.

I do have more questions but they slip my mind at the moment.

Figured i'd make this thread so that multiple people could request for mods to rp as NPCs without making a shit load of other threads and making alot of trouble.

i was wondering if a mod could rp as Thrall for a story line i have planned for shiro? if it's not too much trouble anyway, i know you guys are pretty busy and all

  Malefactor
Posted by: Harry Dresden - 09-16-2014, 07:15 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (8)

Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden was angry. Tolkein had written it best; "meddle not in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger." Harry didn't like people messing with his friends, and he'd never been much for the "subtle" half of that sentence. He slowed to a walk as he approached the gate, winded but not allowing himself to feel it. He looked pretty scary, even if he wasn't aware of it; a man with a huge staff in a long, black duster, striding purposefully towards the guarded gate to Coruscant without paying the guards any apparent attention. They looked like stormtroopers from Star Wars. This 'verse sounded like a great big Star Wars ripoff, but then, Minas Tirith had been the real Minas Tirith. Maybe they actually were stormtroopers. He chuckled slightly, breaking his stormy facade, as he stepped through the gate.

When the sense of gut-wrenching disorientation wore off, the first thing he could think of was, Butters would love this. He looked around him at the surroundings. Flying cars, skyscrapers, white metal and clear glass reflecting blue skies. He'd literally just stepped into Coruscant. It was something straight out of the movies. He let his feet carry him forward for a bit, trying to wrench his attention away from the distractions all around him. Think, Harry. Coruscant isn't all rainbows and gumdrops. It's just about as seedy as Chicago, if the movies were anything to go by. Still, Harry liked his chances against anything that wasn't a Sith lord jumping him out of the shadows.

Of course, Samus was fairly formidable, and she'd been hurt by something that had just jumped out of the shadows. It would do Harry a lot of good to be alert. Samus had said she was attacked on the lower tiers. It seemed better to start at the bottom and work the way up. He pulled out the speaking stone he'd fashioned, getting in touch with Samus. "I'm in Coruscant. I'm going to try and track down the person who jumped you. Know what he looks like?" It was time and past time that Harry got to flex his PI muscles instead of throwing magic at things. It was a lot less tiring. He looked at the hypermodern elevator and shuddered, walking over to the much less high-tech stairs and starting down.

He had a long way to go. Down, down to Goblintown.

  Questionable Entrance
Posted by: Albert Wesker - 09-16-2014, 05:08 PM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (18)

Rather than spend the trip to the gate in silence, Kuzan opted to speak up about a few questions that had been in his mind. Voicing his questions with slight difficulty over the roar of the three-wheeled vehicle's engine, the ice man queried his armored travelling companion about a handful of things. The name that he had spoken before, Gwyn, was among the first things that he asked about, getting an answer that he only partially understood. The Lord of Sunlight.... Well, he supposed it was an entirely different world, so he couldn't judge such a title. Though given both the title itself and the almost reverent, respectful way Ornstein spoke of the man, it seemed the title wasn't just one of arrogance, which only made the former admiral curious.

About the sorry state of the knight's armor and weapon he also put forth a question, only to receive a minimal response, one tinged heavily with what Kuzan guessed as regret and....shame? It seemed that before his arrival here in the Nexus thanks to Omni, his armaments had been well-cared for and brilliant to look at. But death and whatever method had brought him here had dulled them.

Feeling somewhat awkward at the almost depressing turn the situation had taken, Kuzan lapsed into silence, the few more questions he had dying before he could ask them. But it would seem his companion had a few of his own.

The voluminous smoke his bike produced was brought up, and with a laugh Kuzan explained that the thing had been inspired by his former suboordinate, who powered his own with his Smoke powers. The confusion in the halting "I.....see." from Ornstein brought another laugh from the former Admiral. But the next question killed his amusement instantly.

Grudgingly, he explained that there was indeed a very good reason he was a "retired" Navy Admiral. Sparing many of the unnecessarily personal details, he glossed over the disagreement with his former companion over the position of Fleet Admiral, and his subsequent early retirement and departure. Almost sheepishly, he added that the mention of him being an Admiral simply brought up unpleasant memories.

He failed to mention it also made his missing leg ache.

As they finally reached the gate to Camelot, Kuzan brought the smoke-billowing bike to a halt, squealing tires and finally stopping amidst a thick cloud of white smoke, the rumble of the engine dying with a strangled growl. Taking a brief moment to extract the vehicle back to its component Omnilium, and explaining the process as he understood it to Ornstein, he awaited the knight's own action before making his way through the gateway.

The sudden transition turned his stomach upside-down once again, but he mostly kept his balance, slowly beginning to get accustomed to the unnerving transition, but still dreading it. Cracking his neck with a lazy roll of his head, he stared out across the grassy expanse, strolling lazily over to lean against one of the stones standing nearby. "And here we are...." he said, stating the obvious.

  Another Destiny
Posted by: Proto Man - 09-16-2014, 11:48 AM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (22)

Pre-Proto Man, I went through a lot of options for who I wanted to portray on the (eventual) Omniverse. I figure people could also share writing excerpts of characters that they almost were? Or I'll just post up all the random characters I tinkered with.

First up was pre-Zerg Sarah Kerrigan. I'd contemplated playing her on predecessor websites to the Omniverse, but I eventually wound up portraying a 'troubled female lead' with military themes on a separate play-by-post, so Kerrigan went into the chest of unused toys (or whatever that reference should be... Island of Misfit toys?)

War had raged across the Korpulu Sector for years, and with the arrival of the Protoss and the Zerg, an end to the unyielding conflicts seemed nothing more than a forlorn hope strengthened by the vain and naïve. Unfortunately for the majority of citizens, they didn’t have to face the atrocities of war until it marched right up their front doors. In their stead, the pawns and grunts of the Terran Confederacy were thrown onto the front lines to die like sacrificial lambs.

They deserved their fates—the self-serving ignoramuses. They were too pompous and moronic to realize they fulfilled nothing with their martyrdom save the immortalization of their bureaucratic overlords. Even if it was the last thing that Sarah Kerrigan bore witness to, she was going to see the end of the Terran Confederacy. The sector had been ruled by their autocratic policies for far too long, and with the Zerg and Protoss slowly ebbing away at the Confederacy’s dominion, the time for rebellion was nigh.

“Bull’s-eye” Kerrigan whispered, smiling as she looked through the scope and depressed the trigger of the high-powered canister rifle. The round emitted an almost inaudible click as it rocketed out of the firearm’s barrel. A split-second later, the skull of a Confederate officer exploded into a vibrant array of gore and biological shrapnel. While the horrors of war were something Kerrigan bore witness to every day, she still twitched with each life she ended. With a faint sigh, the Ghost fished her communication’s device from her pocket and brought it up to her face.

“The job is done,” she muttered, letting her arm relax and fall back to her side. Through the sea of static, Kerrigan could hear a bunch of loud noises and erratic voices.

“We’ll be there soon, Sarah,” a stern voice said through the feedback. Nodding her head, the lieutenant holstered the canister rifle behind her back and closed her eyes as a cadre of footsteps drew closer to her location. A smile spread across her pale features as her body slowly began to phase out of the visible plane. In a matter of seconds, there was nothing left in the vacant meeting hall except a solitary corpse.

“Holy shit!” The marine in charge of the small group shouted, brandishing his Gauss Rifle as he darted toward his assassinated superior. His four comrades followed suit and began to search the room for any signs of the invader. Before they managed to take more than six steps, Kerrigan murdered all of them with a single bullet a piece. Rematerializing in the same location she had been for the last few minutes, the lieutenant turned away from the bloodshed and glanced out a nearby window.

Opening the window as she had done prior to her assassination of the Confederate officer, Kerrigan slipped out of the window and onto the slim metal ledge. With catlike grace, she shimmied along the wall of the Commander Center until she reached the grappling hook she had used to ascend the tall structure at the start of her mission. On the ground below, the Sons of Korhal were sweeping across the colony in lighting fashion.

“Antiga Prime is ours, Lieutenant Kerrigan,” a voice decreed through the static of the communication device strapped to Sarah’s waist.

“You’re welcome, Arcturus,” she replied nonchalantly—sliding down the galvanized chord a heartbeat later. Once she rendezvoused with Jim Raynor, they would amass the legions of the Sons of Korhal and raze the Confederate installation across the river.

The revolution had begun.
