  Ice Hopping
Posted by: Eileen the Crow - 11-23-2014, 01:14 AM - Forum: The Frozen Fields - Replies (1)

The gate to the Frozen Fields had been the very first thing that the Chosen Undead had seen, other than that great, obnoxious fountain of fire of course. With nowhere else to go,and the thing looking a tad like the fog gates of good old Lordran, the Chosen had headed through it with sword drawn and shield at the ready...but he was not prepared for this. He was not prepared for the sheer, numbing cold! By Gwyn it was absolutely freezing, and that wasn't all that surprising, considering he was staring at a great frozen sea, with massive glaciers and icebergs jutting up out of the skin of ice that kept the ocean tamed! Not to mention there was also a blizzard going on to make things just a bit worse, whipping winds tugging at what little loose clothing comprised the undead's armor, and great flakes of snow and ice hurtling along with the winds. For a moment the Chosen Undead considered turning around and walking out, but well the frigid cold was no worse than the flesh melting heat of Lost Izalith. It would be unpleasant, but it wouldn't kill him...well not immediately at least. There must be something on the other side of all these bergs and glaciers, but the Chosen wouldn't be able to see from here. Still as usual, his normal rule did him well, no one ever got anywhere by standing in one place. So, the armored zombie started forward.

Now, he didn't just confidently walk forward onto the sea, no he was no fool. The gate itself was set on a small stone platform in the middle of the water, but after that it was clearly just ice. He moved carefully, looking down to judge his steps carefully. There were thick platforms of ice floating around, and his goal was to move from one to the other. In some cases he could just walk from one to the other, but in others, he had to actually take a jump. This was where he discovered something rather interesting, he was faster and more athletic than he was in Lordran. Overall it wasn't a massive increase, but he could jump farther and move a bit faster than he normally could while wearing his bulky Elite Knight Armor. It was a nice touch, and made navigating the blocks of ice far easier. Thus he hopped his way across quite easily, he had navigated crumbling rocks before, ran along crumbling paths, this wasn't too much more difficult, just a bit different from that. After ten minutes or so of careful ice walking, and hopping from lump to lump, the Chosen finally reached his main goal, one of the massive glaciers that had loomed ahead of the gate. On one of those big lumps he got to the top, and then leaped, soaring forward, and hitting the jagged side of the glacier hard. Yet, while the impact was a bit rough, he still got a grip onto the wall, and then he started to climb.

Whatever had been done to him when Omni had brought him here, it was quickly becoming apparent that it had some advantages. He felt stronger and more capable than he ever had back in Lordran! He would never have been able to climb as long as he had after all, or jump as high while in this armor. IT was a small thing compared to what some people in other realms and worlds considered normal, but for the relatively human like Chosen? It was like becoming super human! So he kept climbing, and eventually the massive block of ice started to grow less sheer, starting to level out as he neared it. Soon he was climbing up and standing up, able to walk up the rest of the slope to the very top of the glacier. At last, he reached his current goal, life was nothing but small goals that you made after meeting the last one. At the top he put one leg forward, and peered over the horizon, off into the distance. It was still horribly, damnably cold, but he could tolerate it, deal with it. As long as he didn't take a dip below the thinner areas of ocean ice he'd be just fine...mostly. Still his miniature quest got him the information he needed off in the distance, over several more glaciers and icebergs...were mountains. They were distant, but even at this distance they soared up and pierced the heavens, some seeming to even go above the clouds that cast over the sky! Then, the blistering, breezing winds of the blizzard swept back in, denying the Chosen Undead further study, but those HAD been mountains, they had! Thus, the Chosen knew where to go next, and slowly started to walk and slide down the other side of the glacier. He had a long walk ahead of him.

  Call This A 'Resort'?
Posted by: Simon - 11-23-2014, 12:29 AM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - Replies (18)

The isle known as Costa del Sol was supposedly a fabulous tropical land, if the Empire's advertisements of it would have you believe. And many people did believe, or at least held a blissful ignorance to the Empire's shadow-lurking presence in the city.

One of the main city squares was a simple one, a round outdoor court lined with fine stone tiles and deliberate enclaves of greenery. A pair of message boards detailed the identity of the island and its inhabiting industries and attractions. In the court's center stood a large archway, depicting a pair of palm trees curving up to meet at the apex of the arch. The entirely of the gate was a portal to the Nexus, the interstice of realms in the Omniverse.

Normally, Imperial patrols were not an oft-seen occurrence in the island's districts, if mainly due to how they typically preferred a behind-the-scenes monitoring of events on the island. But the gates were a very reasonable exception, for the ability to observe and intercept newcomers on a far more direct level. It offered the ability to catch potential problems before they happened, and keep up their disguised monitoring elsewhere, keeping the facade of a resort island.

"...Do you hear something-?"

"Yes. Sounds like an engine."

"Alright folks, you know the drill. Get read-"

"WHOOHOOOO~!"

----------
"Look, is this about a speed limit or something? I came to a safe stop- well, besides the drift-"

The Imperial officer was not amused, as per usual- not that anyone could discern such an expression under that full helmet and body armor. When a young man came barging through the gate on a noisy motorcycle at breakneck speed, only barely managing to stop at the last second before he broke anything, the officer tended to have that attitude.

"Actions disruptive to general populace, initial disobeying of Imperial-issued orders, and yes, a speed limit." The officer read off plainly yet curtly at the troublemaker. "Fresh out of the Fountain, aren't you?" Probably was, from the look on his face and the way he seemed to regard the Imperial guise. Just another Prime punk, drunk on the potential of the Omniverse. Lucky for him, the Empire's regard of such individuals allowed for a single free 'pass' for such an incident as this, provided the offender in question had yet performed no major crime.

Snow, in the meantime, was a bit more somber regarding his actions. Even for him, that was kinda dumb, rushing through one of the gates like that with no consideration as to what was on the other side. And now, here he was under interrogation of this government individual. It didn't help that the l'Cie was a bit disoriented from the sudden passing into the next 'Verse.

"If you mean that Fountain back in the white area... yeah, I'm new," Snow hesitated to answer, knowing that neither a truth nor a lie would serve to get him very many points in this case. The officer let out a breathy noise, maybe an exasperated sigh.

"In accordance with Imperial regulation, leeway given to misplaced individuals is to be supplemented with a proper punishment to dissuade repeat incidents," he droned out, following the script with authority but no enthusiasm. "As such, your vehicle's components are to be confiscated. Should you be observed to commit a similar offense to this one, you shall face the consequences as you would a major crime of the Empire."

"Uh, wait, the components-?" Snow adopted a confused look on his face, before suddenly rescinding it. Right, the Omnilium. They knew. Of course they knew, everyone had to know. It's not like Snow was special or anything, Omni had outright said there were others like him. "Er- right, right, okay, got it," the l'Cie stammered out before he dug himself any deeper.

Snow disembarked the motorcycle, the troopers took it away, and Snow was quickly waved off into the city. "Great start, Snow, great start..."

  A Foreign Place
Posted by: Simon - 11-22-2014, 03:32 AM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (1)

There was darkness all around, Snow knew that much. Of course, he really wished to know more. For instance, why? It couldn't have been because his eyes were closed, because he had just opened them and nothing had changed. Snow looked what he presumed to be down, and couldn't even see his own body. Yet Snow knew it was there, he could feel it; his perceptions were all there, just fogged or something, he had to guess.

Wait, was there something he missed? Snow didn't know where he got that idea from, but he performed another 'look' around the nothing- no, wait, that didn't look like nothing. It looked almost like a person, at least the outline of one, and it appeared to be grinning and perhaps a bit contemplative. How did Snow know that? It's not like he could see the silhouette's face, because he most certainly couldn't see anything besides- man, this was so confusing. What is going on?, he wanted to say, but couldn't find himself to, for some strange reason.

Then it started talking. No mouth, no echo, just words straight to the brain. Right to the chase, no beating around the bush, Snow was no longer on Pulse nor Cocoon. This was Omni, and so this was his universe. The Omniverse. Whether Snow liked it or not, this was his new world to stay, to live, to craft a name for himself. It wouldn't be easy, he presumed. Omni answered with his lay of rules:

Omnilium. From what Omni implied, it seemed everything in this world was made of this odd substance. And what was here was but a fraction of a fraction, therefore, not nearly enough to make a proper living here. But as long as he desired it, Snow would find more? And to use the stuff, he had to think of what he desired? To a mind like his, it sounded almost greedy, yet the temptation was not beyond him. It did say the Omniverse was reflective of a person desires... but was Snow the only person?

No. There were others, too. They would also want Omnilium, for better or worse. But as long Omni held interest in the people within the Omniverse, Snow would assuredly never stay dead. And, by proxy, those others would not, either.

Before he could gander any more, Omni departed, and with it the darkness.

Snow had to blink a few times to make sure everything was working right. Instead of dark, there was light, a plain white all around like a pastel void. There was ground, though, some indeterminate surface Snow was able to stand on. He moved himself, winded his limbs, hopped a few times in place. All just about as it was on Pulse.

Pulse. Snow rapidly brought his left forearm up for a reference, and seemed to release a suddenly-bated tension. The brand was as he last saw it, silvered and smeared, the telltale sign his Focus did not haunt his life. Did Omni know about this? Did it even care?

Ugh... better not to think too hard about it.

  Snow Villiers
Posted by: Simon - 11-21-2014, 04:34 AM - Forum: Joining - Replies (5)

Character Name: Snow Villiers

Character source: Final Fantasy XIII

Character history: All of Final Fantasy XIII, up to where Snow is crystalized. Upon awakening, he find himself in the Omniverse.

Physical Description

Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF: 5
SPD: 1
TEC: 1

Starting Proficiencies:
Physical Strength - 1000 OM

Starting Powers:
Super Jumping [Basic] - 300 OM
Burst Movement - 800 OM
Survival - 2000 OM

Starting Moves:
Steelguard - 300 OM
As fast as he can react, Snow assumes a solid defensive stance, shrouding himself in a yellow, hexagon-patterned aura. In this state he receives far less damage from frontal attacks (approx. 60% less), but cannot move or act otherwise. This guard can only be maintained on Snow himself, and can only be held for a maximum of 5 seconds, or until he is attacked from any other side, after which he needs to recover for a few moments.

Frost Strike - 300 OM (Req. Physical Strength)
Snow charges magical energies in his l'Cie brand for just over a second, charging his fists with a cold, light blue aura. A firm, solid strike from either fist immediately blasts an enemy or surface with extreme cold, chilling them down to the core and even creating a small layer of frost on the point of impact. The effect disappears within half a second, dispersing the ice but leaving the pain of the cold. Though the aura envelops both hands, Snow can only unleash one such strike before having to charge the move again.

  Twice Chosen
Posted by: Eileen the Crow - 11-21-2014, 03:04 AM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (1)

A great, unimaginable burning heat, a flame so intense that it blazed a trail right past pain and straight to purification. One would have supposed that with this would come peace, or at the very least the empty, mindless hollowed state that had claimed Gwyn, and for a short while, it seemed that was just what the Chosen Undead had gotten...until he noticed the grinning, leering figure lurking in the great void of darkness. What he said was rather...odd, some might have an incredibly difficult time comprehending what was being said, but well, the Chosen was able to grasp at least a couple other things. He was being yanked out of his own time and world...again, and that apparently instead of using souls as the key to all things, he would be using some....Omni...thing instead. There would be others where he was going, and then the strange being named Omni vanished, and the void consumed the inheritor of the First Flame...

There was light, that came to him suddenly, there was light bearing down on his eyelids, falling in slanted bars through the visor of his metal helm. He could also feel heat, an intense, sweltering heat, comparable to those magma coated depths down in the ruins of Lost Izalith. It was a rather puzzling thing considering what he had just gone through, and so he went and did the simplest way to find out what was going on, he opened his eyes. Above him sprays of liquid fire arced above him, splashing elegantly into twin pools. The Chosen Undead himself was laid across a stone bier his arms folded in front of him. The arcing fire was above him though, far enough that he could hazard sitting up, and so he did, his armor scraping along the stone as he looked about. Yes, he was indeed laid upon a stone bier set upon a rounded stone platform, with just a narrow walkway leading out of what was a good sized fountain of fire. Well, at least fate had kept its sense of humor despite the change in location. Well he was getting nowhere simply sitting upon this stone bed, so he slid off the bier and settled onto his feet, stamping them a couple times. His armor felt fine and intact, which was good...although his sword and shield were gone, an unpleasant revelation. Still he could do without for a moments, just as soon as he got his bearings.

Thus he started down the path, he had walked more treacherous walkways, and this pathway seemed quite well built, not crumbling into the pools of fire or anything! Yet, as he reached the edge of it, he stopped. What Omni appearing before him had failed to do, the pure, blank whiteness of the Nexus had accomplished...he was stunned. Was this fountain even set into anything, or was it just floating in a great white void? There were steps leading down it, but then they just went away into whiteness! With trepidation he started down the grey stone steps, and then stopped where they completely vanished into pure white. That was where he knelt down, getting onto one knee. One hand reached out to that whiteness, and hit a solid surface, it wasn't slippery, but it was remarkably smooth on his glove. Still it bolstered his confidence as the Chosen stood back up, and then strode forward onto the endless white and...didn't plummet to his death. Of course this place could still be like those accursed mines back in Seath's domain, but for now he just had to step carefully.

Now...what to do next...

  The Chosen Undead
Posted by: Eileen the Crow - 11-19-2014, 03:31 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (5)

Character name: The Chosen Undead (Does not remember actual name)

Character source: Dark Souls

Character history: Right as the Chosen Undead had completed his goals, enemies and friends slain, the four Lord Souls of Seath, Nito, the Kings, and the Bed of Chaos given to the Lord Vessel, Solaire...mad and dead. Right as the Chosen Undead traversed the Kiln of the First Flame, and slew the mad hollow that was once Gwyn, he stood before the final bonfire, the first fire. Then, he lit the flame, he kindled that last fire, that first fire. Yet, as the flames consumed him, as they ran over his body to use his very essence as fuel...he was yanked from his universe...and there he met Omni.

Physical Description:

Stats:
ATK: 2
DEF: 3
SPD: 2
TEC: 3

Starting Proficiencies:
Physical Strength – 1000 OM
A unique proficiency, this allows characters to become proficient hand-to-hand combatants without purchasing any additional moves. It also allows for picking up heavy objects with your bare hands, strength dependent (as with your hand-to-hand strength) on your ATK stat. Once purchased, you may also purchase melee weapons as moves, or other advanced melee moves such as charged strikes.

Starting Powers:
Survival – 2000 OM
Often the trademark of zombies and other gruesome creatures, Survival allows the user to take grievous wounds which would otherwise kill or inhibit the user – such as being stabbed through the chest – and be completely unaffected. Unless body parts are actually disabled, such as when limbs or tendons are severed, injuries up til death will not inhibit your ability to fight in any way. You can still be killed, of course. With Hive Mind, even detached limbs will still be usable. You can also survive in zero-oxygen and high-pressure areas such as space, though this will not protect you from, for example, poison clouds from other players, or ultimately dying from the adverse effects of those spaces on your body.

Starting Moves:
Sunlight Straight Sword (Requires Physical Strength Proficiency)- Simple (300 OM)
The weapon of Solaire of Astora, a close friend of the Chosen Undead, sadly slain. This weapon is well forged, stolid and dependable. It has excellent balance, and is easy to use in battle. However, it is just a simple straight sword. It has no special qualities, though a dependable weapon nonetheless.

Silver Knight Shield (Requires Physical Strength Proficiency)- Variable (600 OM)
A weapon of great emotional attachment for the undead. This shield was a defensive item of choice for the Silver Knights, a legend he grew up revering, when he then had to slay what was left of them on his quest. This silver shield with its deep groove is highly stable, allowing it to stand up to rather punishing barrages of attacks without being brushed aside, and has an above average resistance to flame based attacks, and a moderate defense against lightning. Please note that it does not block such attacks completely, heat, electricity and even physical impacts will still be translated through to the user, just not as greatly as if he didn't have the shield. However, attacks of other kinds, be they spirit, ki, wind or based in some other method, have an easier time dealing damage through the shield, which cannot block them near as effectively, translating most of the damage through to the shield user. While sturdy it isn't impregnable, and enough attacks or a powerful enough attack can force the shield aside, and thus if the Chosen Undead tries to block an attack stronger than what the shield can take or defends for too long, his shield can be forced wide open, leaving him wide open to a devastating punishment for his turtling ways.

However, in addition to being used defensively, the Chosen Undead can also parry with it. This is an ability that requires phenomenal timing, involving sweeping the shield to the side to deflect a physical attack. More often than not it’s safer to wait until the opponent tries a slow or heavy attack, such as a leaping strike or a running thrust. If this is done successfully, which is easier said than done given the narrow timing, it can leave the opponent wide open for a counter attack! However, if a parry misses, it will generally mean he's about to take whatever attack he was trying to parry straight up. His shield will be completely off to his left side, he'd be completely exposed after a miss.

Riposte (Requires Physical STrength Proficiency, and a successfully landed Parry)- Simple (300 OM)
A technique that can only be used if the Chosen Undead manages to land a successful parry. During the few small moments in which the opponent’s guard is opened from the parry, the Chosen Undead can take their weapon, or even their bare fist, and slam it forward into the opponent’s open body. This technique though must be done quickly, and some opponents might recover quickly enough to move away from it or defend in some way. Yet, when a parry is done, and the Chosen Undead actually manages to land the Riposte, it is among the most damaging things he can do. This technique though, is best saved for a one on one duel. In a one on one duel, as long as the parry is landed, the Chosen just has to move quickly...although again landing the parry is a difficult feat in and of itself. However, in group fights or situations where he'll have more than just the one target on him, a Riposte attempt will leave him incredibly vulnerable to attack from enemy allies. He has to focus on the enemy, thrust his blade into them, and then rip it out, several long seconds during which anyone could easily barrel in from behind or the sides and throw him off their ally. Using it in a group battle requires a lot of confidence or surety.

Backstab (Requires Physical Strength Proficiency)- Simple (300 OM)
A simple attack that got the Chosen Undead around numerous difficult and dangerous foes. The Backstab, as one might have guessed, can only be performed from behind the opponent. This can be through sneaking up on them, or even circling around them after they perform a slow or heavy attack, such as a leaping strike or hard overhead slam. Essentially it’s using one’s weapon or fists to stab or strike the opponent’s back in a particularly critical location for a significant amount of damage to the enemy!

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

  Only Shadows in Coruscant
Posted by: Sarah_Kerrigan - 11-17-2014, 05:11 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (11)

There would be no going back; Sarah knew that before entering the Portal. The Boy at her side may not have (in fact he imprinted upon her when lost to everything else only she had forced his crossing over with a nod at that), but as an Operative she certainly understood the ramifications of her actions. Not only had she taken a hostage – a prestigious one at that – she had meant to kill him. Even without telepathy the Soldiers in the White were told by her eyes. While some considered such striking Emeralds beautiful, they hid darker secrets than their appearances suggested. She took pleasure in killing. All these facts were stone cold as the truth: disobedience now would be a death sentence. They were captive charges. And, they were both on a terribly short leash – practically chained. Primes were valuable if controlled, not so much if wild, untamed and traitors to the order which authority of any kind instills. Registration would allow them to be tracked and contained if necessary.

When the World took a consistent shape again, the Teenager still clutched at the Orbed Rainbow. Her fingers that ran along the sphere probed it – almost for comfort but with a calculated precision that searched for imperfection where none existed - while her gaze narrowed focusing on the everything that lay ahead. It was massive. The sprawling Towers eclipsed the streams of the passerby lights and shimmered with a hazed glow in the dead of night. If there were stars, they were hidden high above the tallest of them, and blocked by a never ending traffic flow. The noise at first suffocating, became the norm, and the entire cityscape looked alive. In fact, the Twilight of night could barely be seen at all. Meters to the West Taxis hovered in wait of a charge for the ‘eve. In every which direction the soft illumination lingered, an aura that would be replaced by the gleam of rays in the daylight unto every structure that stood. Distractions so abound that she barely noticed Omnilium vanishing from her grasp.

There were hotels, restaurants, long fields of grass with fountains at their center; there was beauty in the walkways and the architecture that went up and up and glimmered like glass, sparkling in refraction and spiraling into strong steel railings. Elevators and entrances which led to alleyways and sidewalks that were present as far as the eye could see. But, at every turn were Soldiers in White, Cameras in Gray and riveted slots for armaments yet to be seen (if tech remained consistent they probably concealed blaster turrets). There were patrols that went off together and Citizens far off further along hopping into hovering vehicles and walking adorn in the finest wares and garments – everything about them screamed upper-class. To resist here would be suicide. I’ll let them register us. Sarah thought.

She observed tilting her head and peering off with folded arms across her chest. To her Companion she spoke louder than the droll of activity all around, but without making sound herself: ”Stay close. She mimed, hoping he would come to understand. Thereafter, she placed a hand on his shoulder briefly and looked at him. Stay with me. Don’t let them separate us. This was also to keep him from running off and causing more issues than she could manage. The Boy may not get it yet (that they were still in grave danger), but she would continue to stimulate his mind, both with commands and pure thought itself. She needed him focused utterly on her – not on the innumerable possibilities that came with a new reality so different than the one he had been born into. She was starting to believe that it would take longer to acclimate him with his odd case of amnesia. In itself Coruscant barely phased her.

Not to say she wasn’t impressed by the breadth of this ‘Empire’, however all of this felt too familiar. It ruled with an Iron Grip that could be exploited to her advantage – that was useful. The Elite lived here (the less upstanding were barred off in a hole somewhere), and she hardly cared for the Watchers that kept their gaze on her person; each one crawled underneath her skin, boring deeper and then deeper. There was the slightest of moments where a soft smirk stretched across her face in spite of it all. Rotten from the core out. That’s just fine. As with the Confederacy while corruption grew, dissents would be put down. There would be fixed orders of business, certain etiquette to follow and quelled rebellions in an unspeakable silence of tones. Here, she would always have some purpose. Yet, the indifference stayed:

R&R – rest and reequip. Then, I’ll handle their wet-work. Soldiers enforce, and Ghosts vanish. In every sense of the word. In truth the connection she felt for her the fellow Prime existed only in the tranquil blankness of his mind. It offered a refuge from the Others whose surface thoughts were rarely useful anyways – if not disgusting and disturbed to begin with. She would have continued projecting all of these thoughts to the Boy, but a breath of ice ran down her spine disrupting the manipulation meant to distract from the awe of all the new sights and sounds.

So tired you didn’t notice the army clad in white - behind you. Surely, for a Ghost that failing is one for the record books.

“It’s a lot to take in,” the voice of Simmons interrupted her. She hadn’t even realized that he and the rest of the Company arrived so shortly after – just another testament to how much her senses had dulled, and how restless she had become. “Don’t worry – if you cause no further problems there will be little consequence to your actions.” She hadn’t and wouldn’t, so far all of this she suspected from the moment she laid eyes on Stormtroopers. Enforcers of a will that upheld the farce of Peace and Tranquility with Order. Trained well – but with any new Prime that view is always shocking. The Commander shook his head as he gestured ahead with two fingers. A blurr of White marched forward with steps that echoed like thunderous applause. Their minds at ease in the Sanctuary that Coruscant provided for them. He followed after first ensuring that his two charges went on ahead of himself. Gently he ushered them forward and they began yet another drawn out march.
