Ice Hopping - Eileen the Crow - 11-23-2014

The gate to the Frozen Fields had been the very first thing that the Chosen Undead had seen, other than that great, obnoxious fountain of fire of course. With nowhere else to go,and the thing looking a tad like the fog gates of good old Lordran, the Chosen had headed through it with sword drawn and shield at the ready...but he was not prepared for this. He was not prepared for the sheer, numbing cold! By Gwyn it was absolutely freezing, and that wasn't all that surprising, considering he was staring at a great frozen sea, with massive glaciers and icebergs jutting up out of the skin of ice that kept the ocean tamed! Not to mention there was also a blizzard going on to make things just a bit worse, whipping winds tugging at what little loose clothing comprised the undead's armor, and great flakes of snow and ice hurtling along with the winds. For a moment the Chosen Undead considered turning around and walking out, but well the frigid cold was no worse than the flesh melting heat of Lost Izalith. It would be unpleasant, but it wouldn't kill him...well not immediately at least. There must be something on the other side of all these bergs and glaciers, but the Chosen wouldn't be able to see from here. Still as usual, his normal rule did him well, no one ever got anywhere by standing in one place. So, the armored zombie started forward.

Now, he didn't just confidently walk forward onto the sea, no he was no fool. The gate itself was set on a small stone platform in the middle of the water, but after that it was clearly just ice. He moved carefully, looking down to judge his steps carefully. There were thick platforms of ice floating around, and his goal was to move from one to the other. In some cases he could just walk from one to the other, but in others, he had to actually take a jump. This was where he discovered something rather interesting, he was faster and more athletic than he was in Lordran. Overall it wasn't a massive increase, but he could jump farther and move a bit faster than he normally could while wearing his bulky Elite Knight Armor. It was a nice touch, and made navigating the blocks of ice far easier. Thus he hopped his way across quite easily, he had navigated crumbling rocks before, ran along crumbling paths, this wasn't too much more difficult, just a bit different from that. After ten minutes or so of careful ice walking, and hopping from lump to lump, the Chosen finally reached his main goal, one of the massive glaciers that had loomed ahead of the gate. On one of those big lumps he got to the top, and then leaped, soaring forward, and hitting the jagged side of the glacier hard. Yet, while the impact was a bit rough, he still got a grip onto the wall, and then he started to climb.

Whatever had been done to him when Omni had brought him here, it was quickly becoming apparent that it had some advantages. He felt stronger and more capable than he ever had back in Lordran! He would never have been able to climb as long as he had after all, or jump as high while in this armor. IT was a small thing compared to what some people in other realms and worlds considered normal, but for the relatively human like Chosen? It was like becoming super human! So he kept climbing, and eventually the massive block of ice started to grow less sheer, starting to level out as he neared it. Soon he was climbing up and standing up, able to walk up the rest of the slope to the very top of the glacier. At last, he reached his current goal, life was nothing but small goals that you made after meeting the last one. At the top he put one leg forward, and peered over the horizon, off into the distance. It was still horribly, damnably cold, but he could tolerate it, deal with it. As long as he didn't take a dip below the thinner areas of ocean ice he'd be just fine...mostly. Still his miniature quest got him the information he needed off in the distance, over several more glaciers and icebergs...were mountains. They were distant, but even at this distance they soared up and pierced the heavens, some seeming to even go above the clouds that cast over the sky! Then, the blistering, breezing winds of the blizzard swept back in, denying the Chosen Undead further study, but those HAD been mountains, they had! Thus, the Chosen knew where to go next, and slowly started to walk and slide down the other side of the glacier. He had a long walk ahead of him.

Re: Ice Hopping - Eileen the Crow - 11-25-2014

For most it probably would have been an absolutely nerve wracking experience, having to traverse this great sea of glaciers, bergs and fragile sheets of ice. For most it would have been fit to give them PTSD, nightmares, or nervous fits for ages, it wasn't exactly an easy task after all. For the Chosen Undead, it was just business as usual. Oh it was harrowing that was sure, he felt his still, barely beating heart leap into his withered husk of a throat every time he slipped and fell, clinging to a block of ice by only the grip of his hands, a tentative grip at best. He felt a sickening lurch every time he leaped and then skidded, scrabbling to keep from slipping off the other side and plunging into icy water, or cracking through thin ice. Yet...well he'd been facing such dangers and in some cases worse for the past few weeks, and he was pretty sure from his fragmented memories that Astora hadn't been that much safer. So all in all he was...well honestly pretty jaded. It was harrowing, dangerous and death was just waiting for a slight mistake to grip and claim him, but what else was new? So he kept on going. He climbed up glaciers, slid down to leap onto small blocks of ice, he carefully and slowly walked his way across long, thin stretches of ice, and slowly moved closer, all while the blizzard howled and tugged at his clothing, just making his journey that much more difficult and perilous.

Yet, slowly the mountains drew closer, until he could see their massive, reaching peaks even through the swirling, vision clouding force of the snow hurled about by the deadly blizzard. He drew closer and closer, the Chosen successfully navigating these perils, and it was about time he pulled off something without dying...okay that wasn't quite fair. He had navigated a couple of things in his career without dying, the Kiln of the First Flame came to mind and that place had been covered in greasy, slippery ashes! Then, at last, after hours of working, hours of carefully traversing ice and more ice, he arrived. His foot touched down and crunched into snow, but beneath it was hard, solid rock, it had a totally different feel to it than solid ice. He was triumphant once again! Sometimes he wondered if he would have been able to do half the things he did if he wasn't a tireless, sleepless, foodless undead who could survive things without flinching that would utterly kill normal humans. Ah well that was thought for people of a more philosophical bent, he had mountains to explore, and with no more frozen depths to threaten him with a terrible drowning death! So, he headed off, drawing his sword as he marched up into the foothills, because he had gone too long without seeing a threat, so that probably meant about twenty thousand creatures were about to ambush him.
