The paper swordsman and the midget mage.
Posted by: Shantotto - 04-24-2018, 03:42 PM - Forum: The Endless Dunes - Replies (9)

The small black mage stepped outside of the kings throne room, she had been asked to work together with the milky silver haired person wearing thin glasses, Shantotto had paid him little heed during the course of the meeting. However in this moment in time she looked the man over, his milky flesh was almost reminiscent of old parchment, even the scent he gave off was similar to the libraries of windhurst. She had only once glimpsed at his face, she had seen a silvery hue to the man's eyes, almost like that given off by the dead, but his manner of dress and the way he carried himself, gave her the impression of him being more of a scholar than a warrior.

Running down the steps at the front of the palage Shantotto managed to finally catch up to the man, it was clear he did not know that she had been tasked to accompany him. The sounds of her boots on the crumbled steps and small fragments of stone caused the man to pause and turn to face the source of the noise.

Serraph looked down at the short creature, her tanned flesh with dark nose. It was following him down the steps, his curiosity sparked by the strange creature. “Good evening to you little one, what brings you to me at this hour of night?” The pale one asked the tarutaru mage.

“I was requested to join you on this quest, I assume it is my prowess the one in gold wishes to test.” She replied as she finished catching up to the former espada. The dim light given off by the moon was only partially enhanced by the dim lighting of the flickering torches as their flames danced in the cold desert breeze. Shadows dancing along the ground, Shantotto looked over the man before her, his clothes, despite the blood and what almost looked like ink still had a small degree of scholarly appeal.

Shantotto took her journal out from her robe and began to scribble away as she looked around her, in the distance plumes of smoke billowed up from fires lit. Even after dark the hospital seemed to shine brightly as light bleed through each window. She carefully drew small glyphs into the pages taking care to make an note regarding the individuals she had seen in the throne room.

Seraph watched as the pint sized mage pulled a small book from her strange attire and a small smile filled his face as the book grew in size to accommodate writing. “Interesting.” He said as he leaned over her to view what she was writing. Even to one so well versed in literacy as he, her scribbles and glyphs remained a mystery. He stopped trying to decipher the meaning instead introducing himself. “I am Serraph, loyal servant to king Gilgamesh.” He said as he nodded his head politely as he recalled was a good way to introduce one's self.

Shantotto didn't look up from her book despite the polite gesture, instead she continued to scribble quietly in the leather bound book. It took her a few more moments to finish and shrink the book back down before she spoke again. “ Good evening to you one who smells of a book. I am Shantotto, and it's high time we leave in this mission we undertook.” She said as she walked past the arrancar. She stopped for a second turning her head slightly to look back at the man. “Come on now hurry we can not delay, it would be foolish to lose more life to wait for the crack of day.” Her footsteps faded quietly as she headed towards the main bounds of the city. Serraph looked on in her direction before quickly taking swift strides to catch up with her.

Her strange manner of speech was a cause for curiosity in the former hollow, never before had he heard of someone or something going so far out of it's way to put words into rhyme in every day speech. For one so well versed in knowledge, such a thing was unheard of. Not even the poets made use of rhyme in everyday life.

Shantotto waddled along, her nose detecting the hints of smoke in the air as she walked through the rundown streets. Even now the smells of human refuse, and despair filled the senses. People sat huddled under thin shreds of cloth trying to shield themselves from the chill of the nighttime air. She couldn't spend much time, but she knew that solving the larger problem would so far more benefit to them than just one or two small acts of kindness. Still that didn't stop the tarutaru from pausing for a few months to pull her orb of omnillium from her pocket. Within moments she had created several backpacks similar to the one she had created when she arrived in the dunes, each with a small tent, blanket, and food and water. As she handed them out to the people she passed she wondered how long it would take to get this city to thrive once more. She paused for a moment, looking behind her finally back at the arrancar. “So what is the nature of our task? I would hate to be lacking information oh one in a paper mask.” She asked, the question clearly directed at Serraph.

  Unconventional uses for moves
Posted by: Kuzuru - 04-24-2018, 01:45 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (6)

Can I use a move in a manner that is not expressly spelled out in the description but makes sense from a logical perspective?

Example - Kuzuru's "Demon Blades" move allows him to sprout four blades anywhere on his body. Could he in turn use this to sprout one blade on each limb and use them to climb a wall even though wallclimbing isn't written as an ability for the move?

Another example would be Strazio use a breach bolt or some other explosive move to cushion a fall by firing it towards the ground.

Basically I guess I'm asking how much freedom do we have in regards to improvising uses for our moves before we have to pay for another function?

  Storm Demon.

Wasnt' that ultimately pointless...

While not the most uncommon thoughts for The Storm Demon, for it to be the first and only thing to think about after reaching the end to all this effort was not just disappointing but reaffirmed the reasons why she liked the lazier route in life. Maybe she should have listened to Desman... Finding a way out via some other deity or some fantastical escape mission would have at least given her some satisfaction in the end. Yes, the burning in her chest, the suffocation, the choking, all of it was pleasant and scratched an itch that most people weren't' even close to touching; However, it lacked any fuel to further his goals.

For a grand power, Diablo seemed to lack everything but imposing will. His only weapon seemed to mock video game levels of expected fear. None of which worked on the likes of her. She trembled with sexual gratification under his dominating gaze, but now she just felt...

Well, it was a lot like when less fortunate girls than her spend their time and effort into shaving their legs, putting on sexy lacey bra and panty matching underwear, doing their hair and nails, and spending hours on the perfect outfit; Then after a great date of good food, good conversation, and a confident man who says all the right things to turn a girl on, he can't even get hard enough to fuck you. It's the kind of situation co-workers talk about around the water cooler with their trusted friends of six plus months, where the star of the story is now a punch line and a shared only in cryptic phrase when someone needs a good laugh.

It was about as unsatisfactory as when she'd summoned her chainsword and began to saw Nathis in half. His unblinking eyes, his unmoving corpse. He didn't scream, he didn't plea, he didn't even feel it... The crowd watching had more response than the statue she'd sawed in half did. The seething anger behind Damien's eyes had been more satisfying than her opponent's death lazy death. She almost felt bad taking the easy kill from Desman.

Almost.

About as bad as she felt for leaving Desman behind now.

Not out of guilt, of course. She was more upset she wouldn't get to see him piss his pants upon experiencing whatever that was. She hummed her laughter as she began to picture it. His personality came to mind so quickly, as much as she disliked it. Yet, on second thought it was only natural that it would. She'd spent months with him. She can't help but think that her visit would have been less smooth without him. She would have to thank the fool later for being her stepping stone and for showing her all that he did.

How amusing was it that out of this whole trip that the annoying little robot is what gives her drive to continue instead of the all-powerful creature that called himself king. Her ambitions were dampened by the lack of finesse or thought the brutish and gaudy demon exhibited. She thought Omni demanded interesting people to keep him entertained, why he would summon someone so predictable was beyond her. There was no wonder why the god of this realm has isolated the beast to his own verse. Diablo demanded she serve him, but he barely could constitute a benefit to her plans...

That is when Ash noticed she has been walking this whole time. The demoness stopped and glanced around. At first, she thought it was the Nexus, even believing she could see the Fountain of Infinity in the distance. Except everything was black. A familiar black, one she feels she's experienced before this point. It vaguely reminded her of the day she came to The Omniverse when she met Omni and he explained to her all she needed to know about herself and the Omniverse.

She could see a difference between floor and ceiling, a horizon where black turned to grey. Or was it grey to black? It all blurred together. On the edges though, she could swear she was looking at the gates to the other verses.

When she looked directly up she saw white lines guiding her in various directions. Veins from the heart to the body parts and organs. A road map to where ever she could possibly go. She had no idea what this was, and she was fascinated. Slowly she began to walk, staring straight up at the ground and following one line in particular as best she could.

As she stared at her fate's line her thoughts rotated. They started with her own disinterest in the situation; How big of a waste of time this whole thing had been. Regret not talking more to locals and at least having something to use. Which turned her thoughts to Jaixe. She was at a lost to what he was doing and where he was these days, but she couldn't even bring him anything that the written books and files had on Diablo other than how dull he was. She could probably crunch some numbers, figure about how many demons were waiting for the day they would be released to destroy the worlds around them. Also boring. No... If he asks she will fill him in, but this was not worth one moment of his time.

Her mind briefly visited Desman. She was curious to see if he would even come out of this. How long might it take for him to earn the chance to talk to the chief demon? She hoped that Neujimin finds another demon lord to sick him on. The ringleader demon crossed her mind as well. She bit her lower lip at the thought of what he might be up to. It was probably as simple as smoking a cigar and wishing he hadn't freed her so quickly, but probably not because she was a good lay. Probably wished she was there to stop Desman's tears.

Oh well.

  Erik-trap vs Danger
Posted by: Erik Vrell - 04-24-2018, 02:57 AM - Forum: The Whateververse, Man - No Replies

“Hup!” Claptrap grunted as he pulled himself up the steps to the temple. He had come so far to reach the temple, gruelling through the jungle for days, following the barely legible map as well as he could. After turning down the wrong path a couple of times, or maybe a couple dozen, he had finally reached the mysterious location that the map he bought from the shady Dataverse website pointed him to.

“Finally! I can taste the treasure!” Claptrap called cheerfully. “Chop chop, pack boy.” Erik grunted as he hefted the heavy backpack, packed to the brim with all sorts of useless junk. The psychic was ready to strangle the robot, and likely would have if he had a neck. However, the promise of treasure beyond your wildest dreams was enough to entice him to bare the robot, for now a least. Of course, he was unaware that Claptrap had bought the map from Omniversesecrettreasures.org, the robot conveniently forgetting to mention that detail.

Erik dumped his pack at the entrance of the temple, long past the point of being able to appreciate the architecture.

“Let's just get the treasure and leave.” He muttered, wanting nothing more than to get home to Nippur and present his haul to Gilgamesh.

“Come on, get a little culture, why don't you?” Claptrap chided, oblivious to the psychic’s irritation. The robot wheeled over to a vase propped up on a dais.

“Don't you know this temple contains artefacts fro- hey! A treasure chest!” Dropping the vase, the robot sped over to the chest, Erik only a few paces behind him. The pair paused before the chest, easily large enough for Erik to lay down in, and inspected the lock.

“I can probably bust this off with a little elbow grease.” Claptrap said as he mimed rolling up his sleeves and wound his fist back. Before he could throw an ill-considered punch, however, the quiet temple filled with the sound of footsteps. The robot and the psychic looked into each other's eyes with matching looks of silent horror. Someone else had come for the treasure.

“No way in hell I’m sharing!” Claptrap hissed as he produced his pistol. Erik didn't respond but silently agreed, his hand unconsciously moving to Mageslayer’s hilt as the pair turned to face the intruders.

  Zimmer Ascendant
Posted by: James Knight - 04-22-2018, 03:51 PM - Forum: The Endless Dunes - Replies (3)

The Quarterback of Chaos was in a mood that on it's own could curdle milk, or make any bandits that the Quarterback of Chaos was about to encounter decide they wanted to run in the opposite direction as fast as their legs could carry them. Ransom4u was the last of a long line of annoyances that had caused Warren Zimmer to finally snap. Ignoring the scorching rays of the sun as they beat down on his sore, and tired body, Warren marched himself towards his destination. Today he was going to go see Gilgamesh, and get permission to build his home. Once he had permission, and had the place built and operational - Warren doubted that anyone would intrude in it. They'd have to go through Nippur first, and even for all the ice based murdering skills Dark Hecate had, Warren seriously was not convinced she was that crazy. Sure his plan involved using people more than he'd like to admit, but hey, it was a plan that he had.

Unfortunately, life tends to throw you curve balls. Especially if you are the punching bag of the universe, like Warren seemed to be. In this case said curve ball was not just one curveball, but a dozen. A dozen thugs.

"Tell me, boys. What do we do to tresspassers in these parts?" asked the boss of the thugs.

"Why we make them pay the toll, or beat them and leave them for dead of course."

If the thugs had any wisdom in their heads, they would not have said that. For Warren's bad mood had just gone nuclear the moment those words were realized by him. There were going to be no survivors of this particular batch of thugs - actually.... he could keep them alive. They might prove useful with a few alterations, and improvements to their personalities.

"I'm not paying a toll," growled Warren as he assumed his combat stance.

"Get him boys!"  ordered the boss.

As one of the thugs made the mistake of charging at him head on,  Warren simply held out his arm. Purple electricity crackled down said arm and formed the familiar form of a Calvary Sword. It was time to test out the MWCA that he had invented for himself. A series of slashes later and the thug was now in his underwear, but was not bleeding.

"Anyone else care to try that?" groaned the Quarterback of Chaos who really did not have any time for this today.

The Multi Weapon Construct Apparatus was deactivated by Warren Zimmer.

"Whatcha gonna do now, freak?" spat the boss, at him. Said spit was the worst possible thing the boss could have done, and also the last possible mistake the boss would make in his very short remaining existence. For you see, someone could only be pushed so far until they absolutely snapped on an individual. Unfortunately for the boss of the band of thugs that Warren had encountered? He'd reached that point long before this, but this was what sent him over the edge. No ceremony was done,  but Warren began to create the Yandere Hater 9000.
As he did so, one of the thugs jumped at him, but Warren sidestepped, causing the idiot to careen headfirst into the sand.

Rifle in hand now, Warren simply pulled the trigger. A foot long beam of purple energy lanced out at high speeds from the barrel aimed at the head of the secondary. When there was a stump where the head had used to be, Warren lookes at the individuals. "I'm going to give you a choice. You can either choose to serve me for the rest of your lives, or you can get what he got. You have 5 seconds to decide, since I'm in a more generous mood." Luna may say what she may, but Warren needed to blow off some steam just then.

"We submit.... just please. Don't blast us," begged the thugs.

"I'm glad you saw reason,"  smirked Warren. Now he had 11 men that he could use to begin to form his army here in the Omniverse. Sure it was not as powerful or as disciplined of a group of thugs as he would have liked, but Warren could work with them. In time the numgers of people under his banner would grow enough to where he could challenge the Empire. It was his hope anyway. In order to do so he was certainly going to need more than just these. Each of the men were going to need upgrades though.  "Now your first assignment. You're now my tour guide of this particular verse. I want to know more about it."

As soon as he had demanded the information, one of them began to explain the Endless Dunes to him. Each location was described in great detail by the thugs. After all, they had no intention of dying. If not dying meant they obeyed the Prime who had just killed their boss with a rifle then that is what they would do. It seemed like a rather cushy opportunity - and certainly beat stealing.
