  Ex Machina [M]
Posted by: Eleanor Lamb - 06-19-2015, 12:41 AM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - Replies (3)

Creatures of all shapes, sizes, and colors inhabited the salty seas of the Vasty Deep. During his—admittedly rather limited—time living in Costa del Sol, Gadge found time to get to know the waters and their denizens rather well. He spent most of his time tinkering away at the Empire’s various broken-down vehicles in Seb’s garage, certainly, but on his off time, the boy genius took himself down to the beaches and submerged himself in the ocean. He introduced himself to the creatures that made their home beneath the waves. The tiniest schools of fish might not seem the most interesting, but they welcomed him with open fins, and the scariest monsters might not have been very hospitable, but he certainly enjoyed gazing at them from a distance.

Tonight, however, Paige Owens usurped them all in his mind. His time spent on the boardwalk searching for dates had finally paid off earlier that evening, when the tall, slender girl—he noted that she stood several inches taller than he—had taken notice of him. He remembered the moment vividly: she leaned over the edge of the dock, soaking in the salty air. Then in one swift motion, she had swept her fiery red hair aside and focused her beautiful eyes on him. Their gazes met, and Gadge’s mind had zeroed in on one thing: getting her into his bed.

Crass, he knew, but living in a brand new universe put him in an adventurous mindset. He resolved, in that moment of intense eye contact, to put an end to his sixteen year dry spell, and to put an end to it tonight. Luckily, the redhead seemed at least remotely interested with him; she agreed to take a walk down the beach together. Breaking the ice had always been the hardest part of talking to hot girls for the boy genius, and even as he awkwardly stumbled over himself time and again, Paige picked up the slack. She worked for the moments just as much as he did, and Gadge found himself altogether shocked that maybe, just maybe, he would finally get fucking laid. For the first time in his whole life, he had a shot.

Hovering just beneath the water staring into the eyes of a creepy-ass clown fish, he didn’t know how he could be so optimistic. This part hadn’t been in any of the online articles he’d perused about “how to pick up girls,” but nevertheless, it signaled the continuing success of his conquest. The clown fish’s huge eyes stared blankly back at him, but somewhere within those bulbous black orbs, Gadge could almost see little Nemo saying, “you’ve got this, bro.” The words of encouragement, however hypothetical, gave him the courage to paddle his way back to the surface of the salty ocean and get back in the game.

He burst out of the water, and sure enough, Paige made her way out of the ocean. In the moonlight, her naked backside glimmered. Gadge watched as she sauntered up the beach toward where their clothes sat in a messy pile. Thinking back, not revealing that he was a prime had been the best decision of the night. Sure, he could have summoned bathing suits for both of them, but since she thought he couldn’t, he now got the best view in the world. How in the world could he find anything to complain about with this end result?

The redhead glanced over her shoulder. “Hey, cutie!” she called out, “Get your tight ass out of the water and come hang out with me!” The boy immediately obliged, splashing his way onto the shore. He didn’t exactly like the fact that she chose the moniker ‘cutie’—he would have definitely preferred some variation of ‘hot’ or ‘sexy’—but at this point, the fact that she was talking to him at all seemed like enough of a miracle, so he didn’t argue. He ran as fast as he could up to their clothes pile. Paige dug through the mess of boy’s and girl’s clothes for her underwear before finally finding it and slipping it on, one leg at a time. Gadge watched probably a little too closely. “See something you like?” she smirked, turning toward him.

Gadge’s eyes were not on her face.

“Uh,” he sputtered, altogether distracted, “v-very much so.” He nodded erratically, and she giggled, entertained by his awkwardness. She reached down and pulled her bra out of the pile of clothes, snapping it back on. The disappointment visibly colored the boy genius’s face, and upon recognizing it, Paige giggled again.

“Aw, cutie,” she smiled, but her tone started to worry the blue-haired boy. Her voice had adopted the vocal pattern of someone that was just about to lay down some very, very unfortunate news—and Gadge had a feeling what that news might be. “I like you and everything, don’t get me wrong,” she started, edging closer to him and placing a hand on his cheek, “but… well, y’see…”

Gadge didn’t let her finish. He lunged forward and pressed his mouth to hers, reaching around and haphazardly grabbing the small of her back, shoving her so close to him their bodies were touching. He half-expected her to break away from the embrace, but they lingered in the kiss for more than a few seconds. Finally, instead of rejecting him, she started to kiss him back. His eyes opened involuntarily, utterly in shock that his rather forceful advance had worked, but he supposed it had something to do with everything he had read in those articles—confidence is key, ladies like a bold man, all that shit. They kissed for what seemed like an eternity, and finally, Gadge got brave and placed his other hand on her butt. She jumped a little bit and giggled, separating their lips for the first time.

“Okay then, tiger,” she smirked, one eyebrow raising, “seems you’ve got a little more spunk than I expected.” Gadge didn’t know what to do, but he could not make himself speak, so he just put on the best “sexy face” he could think of and went in for another kiss. She accepted it, and he pushed her into the wooden leg of the dock. For a few minutes, they made out right there—him stark naked and her wearing basically nothing—right underneath the dock, lit up by the Vasty Deep’s very bright moon. Eventually, she lightly pushed him away. “So where’s this garage you work at?” she asked. She looked at him more suggestively than any girl had ever even thought about looking at him before. He couldn’t breathe.

“Right up the pier,” he nodded in its direction, trying to sound as sexy as possible. “You wanna head up there and… fool around?” She giggled, and for a second he thought he might have said something wrong, but then her fingers started to trace his waist line and the feeling that shot up his spine told him that whatever he said, it was very right.

After Gadge had pulled on some pants and Paige had put her sundress back on, the pair had sprinted hand in hand up to Seb’s garage. When they got there, the neon sign remained burning bright; Gadge found that a little odd, considering the garage had closed for the day a little while ago, but he paid no mind to it—he had other things to think about, after all. The couple slipped into the darkened work room, and within a few minutes Gadge had lifted Paige onto one of the work tables and once again, they were engrossed in sucking each other’s faces in a manner that displayed all too well just how teenage they were.

“Hey, uh,” Paige muttered in between kisses, “what’s that smell?”

“Probably just the gas and shit from these jank-ass cars,” Gadge shrugged. The boy genius made a mental note that something did, indeed, smell off—but he decided he would check it out later. They went back to kissing, undeterred by the weird smell, but then an idea dawned on the blue-haired boy. “Wait, wait, wait,” Gadge stopped their makeout session, backing away from her for a second, “…do you mind if I turn the lights on? I wanna see your pretty face.”

She might have been blushing—Gadge couldn’t tell. Either way, he could see her silhouette nodding, and excitedly he turned and headed for the light switch. The fluorescent lights above them flickered on, and Paige filled the entire garage with an ear-splitting scream.

The boy rushed to see what she saw, and if shock hadn’t muted him he might have screamed as well. Slumped up against the wall just across from the redhead lay Seb, the owner of the garage and Gadge’s boss for the past few days, bleeding and mutilated. The blue-haired boy would have gone to check and see if his employer had survived whatever had flayed him so terribly, but at that point, he knew there was no way. Seb was dead. A puddle of blood, still smelling fresh and especially foul, oozed out from underneath him. That meant only one thing: it had not been very long since the murder.

Paige let loose another deafening scream, and Gadge spun around the see a tall, bulky man in a brown pinstripe suit wrap one arm around her waist and cover her mouth with his other hand. Off in the other corner of the garage, another smaller man—this one in a navy blue suit—leaned against the front door of the business formerly belonging to Gadge’s now dead employer. “They only want the boy,” the navy-suited man hissed, “get rid of her.” And with one swift motion, the big guy snapped Paige’s neck and tossed her lifeless body to the concrete floor. Tears materialized in the young engineer’s eyes, but he couldn’t scream. He had seen too much death already to be pushed to shrieking by the murder of a girl he had just met a few hours ago. The sight of her broken, mangled form crumpled up on the ground horrified him, but something told him that he had far more pressing matters to dwell on.

That instinct proved right as the brown-suited man leapt over the work table and lunged at him. Gadge bolted to the side, barely dodging the man’s grab, but the clicking of a gun stopped him in his tracks. He turned to look at the man in the navy suit, who had his pistol out and ready, the aim trained on him. If his calculations were correct, a shot right that instant would have cleaved his forehead wide open. He froze. The cold steel of a crowbar slammed into the back of his skull.

What Is the City But the People
Posted by: Athena Myaló - 06-18-2015, 01:04 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (16)

It was a moment of perfect silence. It really is just like a white hole, Athena thought. The familiar feeling gave her a slight measure of comfort before she felt herself being dragged forward and out the other side. Almost instantly, she found herself standing on a metal platform in Coruscant.

The storm trooper was waiting for her as she exited the portal. However, she hardly noticed, as she was immediately overwhelmed by noise. Buzzing, whooshing, zooming vehicles surrounded her, passing through her field of perception faster than she could count them. There were hardly any voices - it seemed everyone was too busy moving to stop and talk. Buildings of metal and glass in all shapes and sizes surrounded her, filled with people that varied just as much. Those that passed by had strikingly different characteristics - there were aliens with green skin and tentacles, burly humans as well as tiny children, and was that a giant mouse that just passed by on a hovering motorcycle? She froze as the drastic change from the calm and silence of the Nexus temporarily overwhelmed her. Then she came back to her senses as she adjusted and blocked out the background noise.

"Miss?" The storm trooper beckoned down what seemed to be the main highway of the town. Athena, along with the six soldiers, proceeded on foot through the bustling crowds. Athena supposed she could summon a vehicle, but without being able to sense farther than 20 meters, the idea made her nervous. Besides, she would have to build one big enough for seven people, which would have been too much of a bother. As they began walking, the man began pointing out important buildings along the street - the government buildings, the popular restaurants (Athena didn't really need to eat, but learning what types of food were available interested her), and such. On the way, a thought occurred to Athena and she turned to the storm trooper leader.

"How many Primes have been banished, that you can remember?" The soldier tilted his head up slightly as he thought.

"Well, it happens occasionally. There have been quite a few. It's one of the most effective ways of disposing of criminals, if you have the right equipment. The most publicized, though, would probably be Violet, by Victor Wolfe on Dante's Abyss."

"Abyss?" Athena echoed quizzically. The storm trooper nodded.

"It was a huge event hosted and televised recently all over the worlds. Sort of a survival competition for Primes. The banishment was one of the most interesting scenes - that Victor fellow betrayed the sorceress and injected her with banishment fluid. It was quite the turn of events. You can read the whole record of the games in the library, if you wish."

"Library?" Athena echoed again, eyebrows suddenly raised in interest.

"Well, yes. It's just to our right currently, actually. We're passing it. It is the biggest center of learning in all the Omniverse." He looked up proudly at the tall spires of the edifice. "The whole establishment is run by Rex Libris, the -" He looked down to his side again, and the Prime was no longer there. The last he saw of her was the tip of a brown cloak disappearing through the library doors.

  Darkseid Dilemma

So, our good friend Flash hasn't been around for over a week, and his Darkseid event, which garnered the attention of more than a few primes, has gone unsupervised in that time. At this point, there is no real way for the event to progress without someone taking over the role of storyteller, so this thread is to discuss how people involved might like to proceed.

I would personally be willing to do it; I've been a DM over half of my life and I'm comfortable setting up challenges and story lines for people to explore. Other volunteers are suggestions are welcome here.

  Do Developers Understand Sexy?
Posted by: Tearen Wover - 06-17-2015, 09:56 PM - Forum: The Whateververse, Man - Replies (17)

I've just been thinking recently...

With the video game industry so heavily catered towards man-folk, developers naturally try to play men for our boiling (or in my case, gently pan fried) sex drives. So, that means more sexy ladies in video games right?

WRONG!

In their pursuit for over the top female allure, I can't help the fact that developers, or at the very least, 3D modelers don't understand what sexiness looks like. Now, this may be because some developers are under-sexed walking zit farms who have all the animal magnetism of a hairy angler fish...

But surely not all of them. For me, the problem is that most people in generally believe that 'sexy' and 'hot' are the same thing. Don't believe me?

How many times have you heard a gun, car, or good meal called 'hot'...

...well, in a different way than just being physically warm.

But how many times have you heard a gun, car or good meal called 'sexy'? Ah, now you see my point.

You can have someone who is hot but not sexy and vice versa. Regardless, let's look at some examples;

Here is a picture of Samus Aran in her Zero Suit. Skin tight latex on a rockin' bod. Sexy, right?

Well maybe. But here's a picture of Samus in mostly armor. Same expression, same body...zones.

Better, right? Why?

Well the first picture is definitely a show of Samus' hotness, insofar in the fact that she's definitely not ugly (if you can get past the whole uncanny valley thing).

But the second picture is deeper. It forces you to really look at her face, to connect with her as a character, and really appreciate the feminity that exists in her despite the magical death armor. And that's sexy. (Probably slightly more profound if you've unlocked that scene.)

So hopefully you see where I'm coming from here. Developers seem to perceive 'sexy' as visually appealing to your loins. But really sexy is more than just prettiness, it's about wanting to be with that person/gun, to hold them connect. It's not just YAAAYYY Confusedquee: BOOBIES!!!

It's "Wow...she's really something."

So...how about you? Any examples or thoughts?

  Alternate Character: Gadge
Posted by: Mickey Mouse - 06-17-2015, 04:57 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (2)

I reached the required OM for an alternate character sometime during Dante's Abyss, and have since been struggling to pick one. Through it all, I've been working on this little guy, so hopefully he works out as well as I want him to:

Character name: Jonas "Gadge" Miyazuki

Character source: Original

Character history:

In the year 2437, Earth no longer belongs to humans. Near the beginning of the 25th century, various rogue AI rebelled against their creators and took over the major superpower nations of the world—the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, China, etc. In these countries, the race of humans had become almost a minority as robots and various other mechanized replacements take over positions once held by “organics,” as the machines know them.

On one of the islands formerly belonging to the State of Japan, Jonas Miyazuki is born amidst the onset of this crisis for humanity. At an early age, he discovers a passion and skill for all things technology. These skills make him a valuable asset to a local revolutionary group, who is planning to fight fire with fire by building an opposing AI, hopefully one more in line with their beliefs than the type who usurped the ruling offices of the world’s major countries. Nicknamed “Gadge” by his less tech-savvy friends, he is trained in his youth as an engineer, a profession humans are now technically outlawed from practicing.

During the summer of his sixteenth year, the cell of rebels Gadge is a part of is discovered by the AI in charge of Japan, and routed out. The small contingent of engineers trained is rounded up for execution. Gadge is placed in prison, awaiting his imminent death, forced to watch as one-by-one his colleagues and mentors are brutally murdered.

It is during his time on this futuristic “death row” that a sixteen-year-old Gadge is rescued and brought to the Omniverse.

Physical Description:

Gadge is a young boy, a tender sixteen years old. He is relatively short, standing at only five and a half feet tall. Thanks to his recent physical training, he possesses a relatively athletic and toned body. However, despite this, his sheer stature causes many to view him as “scrawny” even despite the muscles he’s managed to gain.

He wears a long, blue coat with red lining on the shoulders and sleeves. The blue of his coat is a lighter color than that of his hair, which is more of a navy shade. He often wears red goggles with yellow-hued lenses on the top of his head; these goggles, when properly working, can be slid down and used to analyze elements in Gadge’s immediate vicinity, such as opponents or what have you. He wears brown shorts, and has bandages wrapped around his abdomen to cover some scars he received when he and his friends were attacked by the ruling AI.

All current images of Gadge are actually images of Simon from the anime/manga “Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan.”

Stats:
ATK: 2
DEF: 2
SPD: 1
TEC: 5

Starting Proficiencies:

Physical Strength (1000)

Starting Powers:

Insight (1600)

Starting Moves:

Electric Batons: Gadge’s choice of melee weapon are two police anti-riot batons. Using his technical prowess, he has modified the batons to have a constant electrical current flowing throughout them, which he can increase or decrease the intensity of with a slider on the handle of each baton. As such, when the batons strike an enemy, they also may feel a degree of electrical shock in addition to normal physical damage, depending on how high Gadge has it turned up. The batons are relatively short, however, and Gadge must get close to his enemy in order to use them properly. (600 OM)

  Gatomon
Posted by: Omni - 06-17-2015, 08:47 AM - Forum: Site NPCs - No Replies

[float=right][Image: Gatomon.jpg][/float]Role/Location – Gatomon is the de facto ruler of File City. While Jijimon handles the business of running the settlement, Gatomon is responsible for community development, organization, and most importantly, the defense of the city from wild Digimon and rogue Digidestined. She rarely leaves File City, and she can almost always be found walking its streets and frequenting its establishments. While Jijimon is aloof and somewhat distant, Gatomon is friendly and approachable without breaking the aura of authority that surrounds her.

Background: Gatomon was the first Digimon to arrive in File City, which was then little more than a hut where Jijimon was living. If you ask Gatomon, she swears that Jijimon has always existed and is less an individual and more a manifestation of File Island. Whether or not this is true, Gatomon developed a tight bond of trust with the strange Digimon, and the two vowed to create a safe place on File Island.

Nestled north of the Native Forest and in the shadow of Mount Infinity, File Village grew slowly over the years. Mostly on her own, Gatomon took the idea and gave it life. She spent months scouring the wilds for Digimon willing to join her and Jijimon, and over the years, the hut was surrounded by more thatched buildings. Over time, those buildings were replaced, and something that looked like little more than a tribal village was replaced by what a human observer would liken to a frontier town.

Although the pace of growth has slowed down, File City continues in its mission to bring safety to the citizens of File Island. While she tends to no longer stray from the city, Gatomon is nevertheless constantly planning new endeavors and expansions, playing the role of city defender, city planner, and city executive. Whether or not Jijimon is anything more than a ceremonial figure is unknown, but there isn’t a single individual that would second-guess Gatomon’s status as a beloved ruler of a quirky settlement in a strange little section of the Dataverse.
