Let's Read Book Club #17
Posted by: Proto Man - 07-20-2015, 04:04 PM - Forum: Bookkeeping Archive - Replies (7)

Sarah's been out, so I don't think she'll mind me making sure the peoples have themselves some Book Club action since it's been a wait.

Just Some Regulations:

 • Please follow all site OOC rules to the letter.
 • Format can be whatever you'd like providing that you follow these rules.
 • This shouldn't need to be said, but please be respectful and offer positive comments. Negativity in any form is highly discouraged. While pointing out all the errors may seem useful 'to you' it certainly doesn't make that person feel good. There are ways to help someone improve without nitpicking. As a rule of thumb try to have 5 Positives for every 1 Negative (courtesy of resident teacher protoman).
 • The above doesn't mean you can't criticize, but there's a way to do it without being negative. For example, make suggestions, don't say something about the topic is 'wrong' or poorly written. Maybe point out a confusing section and suggest revising it for instance, or even offer what you think may have worked better in that situation. Additionally, you could offer to proofread a member's next post for them: be helpful instead. Positive reinforcement will keep people writing and reading here.
 • While you're free to develop your own way of critiquing and commenting, I wouldn't recommend making a 'scoring' scale. This isn't competitive and you're not grading topics. Instead, only offer advice and comments in whatever format you wish. Maybe offer directions the Plot can go from there (whether that is into a new topic or not).
 • As there is a flat rate of 100 OM for participating, I feel I need to include this: please do not skim, thoroughly read before posting. If you skim, especially the wordy topics, you're likely to miss a lot. In addition, please put actual effort into your written responses. I don't want to have to put up a word count requirement for these; so please don't make me question whether or not you have actually tried to help a fellow member, or if you're just trying to get easy OM.
 • OM is a nice incentive but if this starts to be abused, I doubt it will continue to be a reward. Do not abuse this for easy OM. I highlighted that above already, but it deserves a separate bullet. Seriously don'tPlease.
 • As a final point: yes you can offer suggestions as to what topics you would like to be included here next. I have no problem with that if you happen to be dying to read a given topic but need some excuse to do so.
 • These regulations should be copied and pasted into every new Book Club topic (in case I don't do it for some reason).

  Courier Six [Changing Character]
Posted by: Morene Fellon - 07-20-2015, 03:56 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (3)

Shay Cormac/Delsin Rowe Wrote:Been thinking about this for a while, as a result of me not being able to get into Delsin as much as I thought I would. I figured the Courier here would be much, much easier for me to handle, and I've been playing a metric ton of Fallout: New Vegas lately, so... Not only that, but I think this is a good way of apologizing to Mami for my post rates :mygod: Anyways, I'd like to swap out Delsin for this character right here!
Another thing to note, is that I'd like to start this character all the way back to the default starting OM, 5,000!

Character Name:

Courier Six

Character Source:

Fallout: New Vegas

Character History:

Back almost 210 whole years ago, the job as a courier was a lot more simple than walking through canyons filled with poisonous, flying Cazadores, and a lot more simple than having your route intersected by a rich guy in a suit, before getting a bullet in your head just for the package you're trying to deliver. Now, however, in the Mojave wastelands, couriers like Six, whom even forgot her own name as a result of a bullet stuck in her skull, must realize that things have changed since the Great War, where the bombs fell across the entire world.

Unfortunately for all those around the Courier Six however, war never changes, and that was ever so obvious when the day came that the entire world was carpet bombed by nuclear weapons, and the soil was burned with invisible flames of radiation, but that was years ago. In a delivery to Mr. House himself, tyrant of New Vegas, the Courier was meant to give to him a highly technical poker chip, designed to power entire armies of Securitron robots, among others, although the Courier didn't know that. At least, not until she went after Benny, the very man who shot her.

After much trial and turmoil, travelling through the Mojave, ending an endless stalemate between the conquesting Caesar's Legion, and the rangers of the New California Republic, all before turning against each and every single army in the wasteland, Six took the throne of New Vegas from the not-so immortal Mr. House, defending all those that had helped the Courier in her quest of liberating the wastelands.

Things were never that easy, though.

As others began taking control of the territories outside of the New Vegas areas, Six then realized that liberating Vegas was only a step in what she had to do, and ask anybody who knew her, they'd know that she'd get it done.

It was after she opened the gates of her Vegas, and walked the dusty Mojave wastes again, that she was pulled into the Omniverse, after supposedly being knocked off a cliff as a result of a shotgun blast directly towards her chest by a group of Legion retributionists.

To be a courier, is to deliver a message. To be a courier like the Courier Six herself, is to be the messenger, and the message. What her message was, it was only a matter of time the Omniverse would find out.

Physical Description:

[Image: 4583107-falloutnewvegaslonesomeroad-1.jpg]
Not being able to see her face most of the time with the various amounts of bulky armors at her disposal, it's generally difficult to determine who or what exactly would be under those helmets and masks at a distance, the only real way of telling her gender being her distinctively feminine walk.

Being a scavenger herself, it's common for the Courier to don a wide variety of wares, mostly taken from those who have died in the Mojave wastes, including the metallic Power Armors of the Brotherhood of Steel, the masks and coats of the New California Republic veteran Rangers, or even the Legionnaire's Roman outfitting, whatever suits her best, the Courier will wear at will, with the help of her Pip-boy always attached on her left forearm.

Though not many see her face a direct result of her obvious liking to masks and helmets, what is known is that she seems to be a Caucasian female with dirty blonde hair, usually tied back, and gray-blue eyes. Although mysterious at first, Six isn't afraid of speaking out, her voice deep with a clear sense of authority behind it, being able to talk out even the most violent warriors in the Wastes.

Statistics

ATK: 2
With all the firepower in Six's arsenal, it would be absolutely baffling to say she wasn't able to hit hard. If it's not a knife stabbing almost straight through your abdomen, a pressure-plate activated shotgun gauntlet to the face, or the old fashioned magnum bullet coming straight for your head, you know when the Courier is behind it, that means it's going to hurt.

DEF: 3
Durable as all hell, nobody else but the Courier herself would be able to take two bullets to the head and still have enough drive in them to outplay almost everybody in the Wastelands.

SPD: 1
Though moderately speedy in comparison to her companions (and enemies,) the Courier doesn't spend a lot of time moving, rather aiming down her sights and shooting at whatever stands in her way.

TEC: 4
A cowboy/cowgirl is never given those titles when they don no skill behind their belts. This is especially true with the Courier, being able to take over the entirety of New Vegas almost single-handedly, and becoming the dreaded Messiah of the Mojave wastelands after a really bad day at work.

Starting Proficiencies

Physical Strength – 1000 OM
A unique proficiency, this allows characters to become proficient hand-to-hand combatants without purchasing any additional moves. It also allows for picking up heavy objects with your bare hands, strength dependent (as with your hand-to-hand strength) on your ATK stat. Once purchased, you may also purchase melee weapons as moves, or other advanced melee moves such as charged strikes.

Ranged Proficiency – 1000 OM
Allows you to purchase moves which can attack from range. For example guns, bows and long-range beam attacks.

Starting Powers

Stealth – 1200 OM
Renders you invisible to the naked eye, though extra-sensory skills (Enhanced Senses) will be able to pick you up. Attacking will temporarily weaken the invisibility, allowing you to be glimpsed, and taking damage will break the invisibility outright. You can only re-stealth if you are currently out of sight of your enemies.

Starting Moves

Lucky - 300 OM (requires Ranged Proficiency)
A unique variant of a .387 magnum revolver, Lucky was found by the Courier in a floor safe locked inside of the Steve Bison Hotel located in the Mojave's Primm. Other than it's fancy gold etchings on the black metal of the revolver, and an ivory handle with the clubs symbol inlaid on it, this revolver has a bit faster firing rate than a normal revolver, and as it's name implies, it's a very lucky charm to be holding around. As with any revolver, it fires off six quick shots before it's able to reload, and although it's stronger than any other projectile based weapon with more than six shots loaded off due to Omniphysics, the Courier must aim well if she wants to shoot off potentially high-damaging bullets, mainly taking advantage of an enemies' weak points. This revolver has an effective range of about 40 meters.
Blood-Nap - 300 OM (requires Physical Strength)
Found in the Divide at the Courier's Mile, this unique variant of a normal Bowie Knife sports a red wooden handle and a 12 inch blade. Though the Courier doesn't much use melee weapons as preference, she knows that this knife is mainly meant for sneaking around and getting a good backstab on someone, or something out in the Wastes. Though this is her main choice for keeping quiet, this knife can still be very useful as a simple one-on-one option if the Courier wants a challenge. As with any other simple knife in the Omniverse, the Blood-Nap is fast, brutal, short ranged, and considerably weak if not used correctly. To use this effectively, Six must either overwhelm the enemy with low-damaging attacks that stack up, or this can be effectively used as a successful sneak attack. The Courier must be about 3 feet away from the target at most for the attack to connect.
Ratslayer - 300 OM (requires Ranged Proficiency)
The first gun given to the Courier after her "kick in the head" at Goodsprings from Sunny Smiles, the Varmint Rifle and it's unique variant, the "Ratslayer," never fails to be deadly and efficient, especially with the help of a few modifications to the simple bolt-action rifle, including a high-powered scope, an extended magazine, and a silencer. Though the original Varmint Rifle sported a plain wooden stock, the Ratslayer has a synthetic black one, complete with a tally count next to the small painting of a Molerat's skull at the end of the stock itself, marking the Courier's rodent kills. With the extended magazine, this rifle holds a whopping 8 shots, although the only time this weapon would do an effective amount of potential damage, is when the Courier scopes in at a target from long range. Worse considering the 8 shots greatly dampens the blows as a direct result of the Omniphysics. The Ratslayer has an effective range of 90 meters.
Sturdy Caravan Shotgun - 300 OM (requires Ranged Proficency)
Also called a simple "scattergun" by most, this over-and-under barreled shotgun is the weapon of choice for many wastelanders out in the Mojave, especially the Crimson Caravan traders. Despite it's rough appearance, the weapon itself is extremely durable, hence it's name. Though, in the Omniverse, the Courier doesn't have to worry about her weapons breaking and jamming on her this time, giving her less a worry when she blasts away at anybody who crosses her. Though the shotgun has only two shots, they do a potentially devastating amount of damage up close, although it's near useless at any other range. Being a shotgun, of this type especially, this scattergun has an effective range of about 7 meters at most.
Sleepytyme - 300 OM (requires Ranged Proficiency)
Perhaps the only automatic weapon being able to be concealed effectively by a wastelander in the Mojave, the "Sleepytyme" 10mm SMG is deathly quiet as a result of the large silencer at the end of the gun itself. Although small, it definitely packs a punch, even with the silencer weakening the shots slightly. The SMG's magazine can hold a maximum of 40 10mm shots that fire at about 10 shots per second, allowing the Courier to constantly pepper and rip apart at her enemies by emptying the SMG's magazine as quickly as she can. Although it's effective in that sense, that of course means a single bullet from this weapon will pretty much amount to no damage at all, forcing the Courier to make all of her shots count. Due to it's SMG nature, the Sleepytyme has an effective range of about 20 meters.
Miscellaneous/Roleplay Fodder

Stealth Boy - (requires Stealth)
An old pre-Great War device that allowed one to be near invisible to the naked eye. Worn the same way as a Pip-Boy, this strange futuristic gauntlet was run on a temporary battery, but in the case of the Omniverse, the battery doesn't seem to work the Stealth Field, ultimately depending on if you attack in a clear answer of aggression towards one's enemy, in which the Stealth Field will almost immediately deteriorate. To be noted, you are also completely invisible when using this, unlike it's counterpart in the wastelands.
I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct!

Mami's draw for a probably terrible game
Posted by: Mami Tomoe - 07-20-2015, 01:16 PM - Forum: The Arcade - Replies (4)

I have sixteen cents left from buying a probably good game for myself! So now I want to spread the love(?) to you guys.

If you have a Steam account and you want a game under your belt, here's your chance to get... An experience. I won't say it'll be good, I won't say it'll be bad, but it'll probably be bad. Regardless, it's a free game on your part, so the only thing you can lose is time. Anybut, lemme know if you're interested. Reply, please, because Steam chat doesn't last forever. I'll throw whoever enters (Implying I even get enough people to choose between) into a random number generator and whoever 'wins' gets the game.

Give me a shout on Steam, too, if you feel like. Because that's on my profile. Shameless plug is shameless. I'll close entry, implying anyone's even interested, in a day or two? How's that?

A merry tune filled the air as the first rays of dawn fell upon Hyrule Castle Town. Children ran about in play and shopkeepers hawked their wares from merchant booths. It was a beautiful day to be alive.

But all was not well in this utopia. Darkness hid beneath the friendly facade; a darkness the Town would need to pull out by its roots if it wished to survive.

  The Hunt for Home
Posted by: The Dreamer - 07-20-2015, 02:58 AM - Forum: The Tangled Green - Replies (4)

Quote:Continued from "This World is Wild, But is Not the Forest"

Emerald tumbled out of the portal, hitting the ground with a rather hefty thump. She took a few moments, trying to gain at least a sitting position with which to gather herself. That trip through gate was much rougher on her than she'd imagined.

Instant transportation huh? Not what i expected from portal between points such as this. She paused, spitting out a mouth full of dirt she'd collected during her spill out the gate. Then again, most everything I've seen so far isn't anything close to what i'd expect. While on Earth, there were plenty of teleportation pads across the planet, and the intra-planetary network was strong and well, it was nothing like the experience she had just had. All trips between pads, while much shorter in travel time than walking to your destination, still took a few minutes to transport you there. In between, you floated, more or less, through tunnel of sorts in the fabric of space. this was nothing like that though. Literally, near instant transportation. Quite a marvel in Emerald's eyes, as an instant teleportation between two points took so much more energy to perform than could practically be done, and yet, she had just herself experience it without exploding into the atoms that make up her being, or decimating the area around the target destination. Marvelous, she thought, turning towards the gate.

She looked the gate over again, closely. It looked nearly the same as it did on the other side, in the vast white space she'd essentially been dumped in when she enter this... world? Plane? Dimension? She still wasn't quite sure what this place was.

She put a hand to her forehead, a reaction to an intense pain she felt. Her head ached as she thought more about what this world might be. She could see a flash in her mind, a flash of white light and a memory, not a whole one, but of a small, child-like figure, and a word came to her tongue as her head throbbed.

"Omniverse."

Omniverse? Where did that come from? She thought, raising her hand to her head again as it ached. It must have something to do with that figure i remember... Fuck, i don't even remember what he looked like. Just as soon as the image had come to her, it had faded just as quick, along with the pain she was feeling.

"So, the Omniverse then," it felt very... correct as she said it, like it fit exactly in the place of all the confusion she felt about where exactly she had ended up. Although, the more she tried to remember, the deeper she dug to find that image she had seen, the further it seem to pull away from her grasp.

She wiped the sweat from her brow, Wow, that took more of a toll than I had thought. She was breathing a bit harder, harder than she should be for only sitting still. I suppose I will take that and put it near the top of my list of questions so far. Cause i'll be damned if I sit for long without know what force of nature, or man, dragged me from my forests and dumped me here. She looked around her at the greenery around her. She marveled at it's sight.

This is nothing like what I've seen on Earth. Holy Shit. It certainly wasn't even close to the forests on Earth, even the more tropical ones she had been to. It's so... She jumped up from her seated position, still a bit on the wobbly side from the trip though the gate, and moved towards a nearby tree at the edge of the clearing. Emerald awed in it presence. It was such much larger than anything like that on Earth, and she could feel with a touch to it's trunk how alive it was, and how many things lived in it's branches. At the same time, she could feel, even hear the humming of the tree from inside it. It rang with the same hum that she had experienced in the vast white space on the other side of the gate. Her skin began to shimmer with a rainbow color, just like earlier when she drank from the ever-changing fountain where she had awoke, and her gem began to hum as well, perfectly in sync with the tree.

"This place," she looked around at all the other trees that edged the clearing, and into the sky above, birds flying high in the sky, and then back at the tree she had her hand on still. "It's absolutely marvelous. Everything here is connected, as well as connected to all that I felt before, on the other side of that gate. She looked over the the gate again, and while similar in look to what it had been when she step into it, and when she arrived, it had changed. The vines that coiled around the sides continuously moved, loosened, and re-tightened themselves snugly around it again. It seems that things on this side of the gate are ever so slightly more alive that those on the other side of it.She found it intriguing how a plant could even stand the spatial ripping that occurred when transporting from one point to another like that, so much so that it could continue to grow and thrive thorough and on the other side of the gate. Amazing.

Character name: Cyburn

Character source: Original

Character history: Cyburn was born under a different name, for that was a different time. A different life. That was who he was before the Canadians attacked. Cyburn first awoke when he heard the moose calls, and outside he saw what should have never been. Thousands of mounties riding in on moose, and they were all charging, heading south. They had begun their world conquest.

The others had shrugged off his warnings, for in his old life, he had known that the Canadians would one day be the evil empire that they were always destined to be. The old him knew who they were, for whenever he had met someone as nice as a Canadian, they had some horrible secrets. But Canada? That was a country filled with people that nice. They had to be hiding something, and now the rest of the world knew.

Cursing the Canadians, he reached for his Tim Horton's coffee, they had crippled the economy by raising the prices of their coffee, which they had a monopoly on. Finishing his drink, he grabbed his crossbow, and he began his long one man guerrilla strike team against their tyrannical rule. He will forever remember what they did, and his hatred for them runs deep.

Physical Description: Cyburn wears a snow white trench coat, to better hide himself in the Canadian wilderness. The coat is actually quite warm, something that he is thankful for. The rest of his attire is, similarly, white. He has various other outfits, all look exactly the same, but with differing color schemes to allow him camouflage himself in the various parts of the world where the Canadians have taken over.

His face is hard, and his eyes piercing. If one watches, then they can see him constantly scanning the area, trying to see if he can find a Canadian hiding in the midst. His hair is long, unkempt, and brown. It's constantly greasy due to him not being able to bathe thanks to him always being on the run from the Canadian war machine.

Starting Proficiencies: Ranged Proficiency 1000 OM Area Attack Proficiency 600 OM

Starting Moves: Crossbow 300 OM His crossbow is something that he has been modifying since the war began, and it is able to perform many tricks with it.Such as being able to hold six bolts before needing to be reloaded. It appears to be a simple crossbow if one looks at it, and it comes in various color schemes to help hide in the various terrains that he fights in. It can fire up to 300 yards without much of a problem.

  Baby Come Back

Man, I've been on online RPGs, MMOs, and other shit since I was 13. You know how long that is? That's like, the entire lifespan of the kids I teach right now. In that time, I've made many wonderful friends (and some not-so-much friends), and there are many people who I'd call family.

The sad part is... people leave. They get caught up in real world stuff (understandable), they lose interest (EXCUSES), or other things happen. Sometimes they come back, and other times, they just become a footnote for a historical retelling of old threads or characters or old websites.

This is a thread for everyone (not just me) to memorialize all the people you miss, whether you were close with them or just impressed by their writing or their personality.

That said:

I miss that Neal guy, from back when we called Nealaphh by his full name, because there was a dude already called Neal. He was a really cool guy with some neat ideas for a character that weren't focused on trying to murder everything or break every flexible rule. He had a nice run in Dante's Abyss that got better before he got super nova'd. He disappeared before the contest wrapped up without a word, and I really hope he finds his way back.

I miss Vitruvius... He was this guy who played a robot. A robot that shot crossbow bolts or something. He had a great storyline with Samus that is a favorite among a few writers here (I know Dark Link loves 'Escape from Coruscant'). I'm really quite sad he left, because I wonder what would have happened with that storyline.

I miss Nanoha. He was a really cool writer and cool bruh, and if he'd stuck around, I think his character and Proto Man could have had a really cool dynamic. I know he visits occasionally, but I really wish he'd return for a long haul and pump out some stories... I can't remember if I ever saw him write any completed threads, which is weird given how splendid his writing was.

I left out Sasuke, because I know one day our resident 'Most Helpful Bro Ever' will return home. There are other people, but I'll talk later. Who do you miss?

  Possible Full Refund?
Posted by: Retane - 07-19-2015, 04:00 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (2)

So, back in the day, I bought the Second Equipment slot. This was before the changes. I bought it when I knew I was going for the Malefactor.

I never used it but, I would have an axtra slot for a second item.

I'm asking to get a full refund for the item, seeing as how I only need slots for consumables now.

Is this okay?

Endless Dunes Suggestion: Rick's Cafe Americain
Posted by: Thaal Sinestro - 07-19-2015, 01:37 PM - Forum: Help Desk - Replies (4)

In short, I suggest that the tavern in Carrefore officially be Rick's Cafe Americain, from the classic movie Casablanca.

In long, it's an awesome set piece for the town, and offers a really cool couple of characters for PCs to play with. Gambling, drinks, and a fun 1940's atmosphere that feels otherwise absent in the big, depressing desert. The presence of the Empire would help add the same oppressive yet corrupt regime that is present in Casablanca, except instead of Nazis, it's Stormtroopers. Which are named after Nazis.

I think that giving the small settlement a little bit more flavor might make it a more attractive spot to hit up for Primes, and the jumping, fun atmosphere, yet still DANGEROUS and elicit, feeling of Rick's Cafe might help nudge that along.

Just an idea.

  Character Change: Eileen the Crow
Posted by: Eileen the Crow - 07-19-2015, 12:55 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (4)

((I do not wish to keep any of the OM earned as The chosen Undead, I would much prefer to start completely fresh.))

[Image: tumblr_inline_np1506CmBh1rbu2c8_540.jpg]
Character name: Eileen the Crow

Character source: Bloodborne

Character history: The Hunter of Hunters, an individual who must take the terrible burden of going after any hunter who has lost their mind. Usually due to the Blood finally corrupting them and turning them into beasts. Eileen is the Hunter of Hunters, the original in fact. Coming from a distant land, she brought her strange beliefs and rites with her, but none could deny her skill. Becoming a fast friend of the likes of Gehrman, Gascoigne and Henryk, some of the oldest still living hunters, she did her job well. Eventually though, everyone loses their prime.

Eileen eventually found her dreams ceasing, leaving her with just one life, and an old, aging body. Yet still she sought to pursue her duty, trying to keep the mad hunters in check even as it seemed as though all of Yharnam was becoming naught but blood-hungry beasts. She might well have died had not a brand new hunter saved her, not once but twice. She passed the duty on to them and rested, trying to recover. It was as she closed her eyes and went to sleep that she was stolen to the Omniverse.

Physical Description: (originals only)

Stats:
ATK: 2
DEF: 1
SPD: 2
TEC: 5

Starting Proficiencies: Physical Strength (1,000 OM)
Ranged Proficiency (1,000 OM)

Starting Powers:
Master Acrobat – 400 OM
Allows you to perform handstands, flips and cartwheels with ease, even while attacking or defending.

Starting Moves:
Blade of Mercy- Requires Physical Strength Proficiency (600 OM)
A special trick weapon of the workshop, this was the weapon passed down from Hunter of Hunters, to the next, or rather given to those that Eileen thought she could trust. In its basic form, this blade of old, ancient Siderite is a curved shortsword. It has reasonably fast attacks and is very good at slashing and thrusting. It is slightly more powerful per swing then in it’s trick form.

With a quick snap the Blade of Mercy can be changed into a pair of light, fast daggers. The overall damage is decreased per swing, but these daggers can be used with remarkable speed, can more easily catch or parry blows thanks to the expanded opportunity to attack or move. However, while in trick form, Eileen has both hands filled of course, and would need to put back into Shortsword form to have a free hand!

Hunter’s Pistol- Requires Ranged Proficiency (300 OM)
A standard tool of hunter’s, a simple but effective firearm that uses blood-infused Quicksilver Bullets to combat beasts. The pistol is a single shot and similar to a flintlock, with a barrel that snaps down for an easy insertion of a second shell. However, this does still create a significant delay between shots. Eileen can get a shot off roughly once every two seconds. In addition Eileen can only carry 20 quicksilver bullets at a time before having to take the time to summon more. It has an effective range of roughly twenty meters before the bullet breaks apart, the casing of quicksilver and blood more fragile than a 'traditional' bullet and not having the same range. However, it is most often smarter to get closer for a single shot, especially when dealing with agile targets, as at a good distance it can be hard to get a clean, accurate shot off.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.
