  On the Road to Colosseum
Posted by: Undyne - 09-22-2015, 01:31 AM - Forum: Camelot - Replies (62)

Alexyana had roamed around the forests of Camelot for the past handful of days ever since having met Ludwig and having been interrupted by the bear-like thing that she'd killed. While this world was still strange and mostly unfamiliar, she had been able to snatch up bits and pieces of conversation from unaware travelers and the guardsmen around the portal - mostly by hiding in the foliage and sitting still as they walked by. While moving she made a lot of noise and was quite visible, but if holding still and thanks to the dark color of her scales and a little mud to hide the shimmering, people mistook her for a rock or such.

"... apparently yes. There's been someone attempting to get to the King's quarters... yes, of course he was caught. Fool doesn't stand a chance. Probably was an agent from the Empire..."

"Did you hear about the rampaging dragon? I think a group of Primes took it down or something..."

"... and if you add just a pinch of coriander it'll mitigate the bitter taste, it's delicious..."

"... the larger influx is due to the Colosseum tournament, didn't you hear? There's flyers all over the place..."

A tournament? Alexyana hmmed and waited for that last pair of travelers to be safely out of hearing distance before she got up and returned onto the road after washing off the mud and making herself look presentable once more. She headed towards the portal that she had entered this verse through and kept her eyes out for any sort of poster or the like that might have been put on a tree or other plainly visible surface. Around here, in the vicinity of the portal, it had to be one of the best places to spread information, right?

It did indeed not take her very long before she came across a wooden blackboard that stood along the roadside and held various papers with information on them. At first she wondered how the kingdom could afford this many writers - most of the writing was very neat and legible, too - but then she remembered the Omnilium. It probably was a matter of minutes for an individual to summon a whole stack of flyers like this with little effort. She walked closer and took a look.

... there it was. Advertising for a tournament held at the Colosseum... yadda yadda many thanks to the organziers, that wasn't so interesting... "All Primes are welcome to apply". Hmm. Primes... hadn't she heard something? From what she remembered, they were the people having been pulled to this world by the faceless one... that Omni person. So she was one? And where was that taking place? In Camelot, perfect... and there was plenty of time to go there. But the dragoness was a careful one, and knowing how she was only vaguely familiar with a very small part of Camelot, she was not going to take her chances with this. Better be five days early than five minutes late. And who knows, she might meet a few other people along the way. Involuntarily she bared a few teeth for a broad smile before she whistled between her teeth to get her Kumdo to come to her again, and mounted up... then remembered something, she hopped back off and focused the flyer, summoning up a copy of it for herself, much like she'd conjured up her mount days ago. It would probably look VERY stupid if she got herself lost because she couldn't find her way on the last handful of miles.

Honestly? It wasn't about the tournament, about the thrill of battle or even about the fame the winner would undoubtedly get. It was about the prospect of throwing herself into the cold water, of learning her new strengths and weaknesses in this universe the "hard" way, but in a controlled environment. What's the worst that could happen? A few days worth of death. She didn't think that she would make it very far considering how she was entirely new and unused to this world, but perhaps she could cash in a victory or two. Then she'd help her foe up and invite them to sit in the spectator ranks with a corndog and watch the other ongoing battles until they had to go fight again. And if she lost, she'd hope that her foe decided to not kill her, so she wouldn't miss out on the fights.

And even if she did, she'd have a chance to meet a fair number of other Primes, get herself introduced and possibly make a few friends. Or at the very least she'd learn something about this Omniverse place...

"Ho there! On we go!" She called to drive her Kumdo to start heading along the road and towards the large city which was named as a point of reference in the flyer.

Quote:Chapter One: Wall of Sand, A Fated Arrival

Perhaps the remnants of the Copper Eye had seen her coming. Then again, perhaps not. She remembered what it had felt like and all that she had seen. Glimpses in the darkness, a shadow immediately upon her. Touching the empty depth was the heavy lethargy of paralysis that had settled in her bones with a single prick on her neck. It was something she had never before experienced, a forlorn sickening sensation of her own inescapable fate.

Arms strained. No movement resulted no matter how much effort she put into motivating her muscles. Meanwhile Caira tried to sort it all out. The Prime hadn’t physically seen her captors but from their footsteps there were about six of them, she could sense their individual physiques through the vibrations in the ground but it was difficult to juggle with the overwhelming deluge she combatted before she succumbed to the inescapable shadow of her subconscious.

Suffocation, fear, trepidation broke out underneath the black cotton bag that served as a blinding layer over her face. Assumption was the only thing she had to go off and even she didn’t know enough about her abductors to suspect precisely who it was that had wanted to exile her from Coruscant and banish her to the outlying verses. They probably had assumed she was a Camelot spy.

Though they had left her attire intact, her weapons intact, if they really had wanted to hurt her, they would have. Why had they done this?

The female wiggled out of the poorly wrapped bag that encased her head, ruffling-up her braided hair, her eyes quickly adapted to the instant suffusion of light that seared into her pale skin.

”A.. Desert?”

Her pale eyes glazed over the edges of dune that rose and fell like paraded mountains and in the distance seemed to ebb away from her like soft waves. The Prime took it in all at once - the heat, the light, the empty sound of wind on the drifting sand. She quickly rose to a stand but found her senses muddled as she collapsed into a broken kneel. The paralysis was still in effect. If only slightly. She heaved in a breath of arid desert air and let the determination fill her.

Straining herself and coughing in some sand, Caira’s eyes fixed on the rolling pursuit of a tidal wave that rose hundreds of feet in the air, casting the sun away in the shadows of the rainless storm. It was a steaming, rolling wall of sand bulldozing its way through, entrenching the placid terrain and eradicating the baby blue sky of its cloudless serenity.

The tsunami of niveous sand approached in the form of a colossal wall, ready to steamroll Caira into the dust below her feet. The tornado engulfed her and tore at her fastened stance upon the not-so-stable ground. The Prime acted quickly, using the bag they had put over her head and ripping it into a finely fashioned balaclava. Then, she placed her iconic sunglasses in the opening she had made. Small coarse pieces of sand scratched at the lenses, but her eyes were protected by the layer of shade which served as impenetrable goggles. There wasn’t much to see trapped inside the whirling cloud, specks of sand perpetuated at a strong force and bore themselves down at any stagnant moving part of her body. Painful scratches of wind tore through her new and rather thick attire like fragmented glass, leaving only her gauntlet arm, her balaclava and her socks untouched -yet completely covered in a thick coating of sand - as the woman found herself at the core of the noxious sandstorm.

What are the odds that the second I arrive, a great sandstorm appeared to make my day even better? The monk's spiteful thoughts reflected the creasing grimace beneath her covered visage.

Casting with the wind and somehow gravity remained grounding her, was her hefty cloak. She used it as a brace against the wind and sunk lower to the ground in an attempt to make some headway and brave the storm, because there was no where to burrow beneath. She would be smothered alive had she remained in the open. So the “sailing” girl didn’t have much time, she couldn’t let the sand collect else she would lose her bearings. In her jumbled, paralysis filled haze, she recalled the sun, it hung tilted in the sky if only for a moment East of where she faced. The approximate direction of the current of wind fluctuating within the condensed whirls of sand - and the very gale that had swept this storm in - might just lead her in the right direction. After all, it had carried a consistent sweep of sand from a steady direction. There was no other option, she would go against the storm because it was the only way for her to maintain a straight direction to anywhere.

Her steps became the endless monotony of her own pace. The strands of grueling sand and wind bore down as she continued to fight -one small step at a time- as the suffocating blizzard swallowed her whole. She consequently cut her cloak off, as at this point it was a disadvantage, and off was her last train of righteousness.

The gales cast granules everywhere, within her pockets, sheaths, and cavities of her hood. It nearly became too much for the young sorceress as she continued further, willpower now superseded the strength she had summoned. On the bright side, it had blown away the ghastly arid heat that had settled on the mounds of crumby sand.

This was an uphill battle, the direction she traveled could bring her to nowhere. It could kill her, had the girl no faith. And when she arrived into whatever danger was waiting, her sore muscles would be so heavy with fatigue that no matter the obstacle, it could easily kill her.

It was a battle of the mind. Within it, she created thoughts of serenity, despite her current doubt of insanity, which sometimes brought more burden than motivation as she could be trapped in this sandstorm until death. Gasping, heaving, and steading breaths suffered and smothered her beneath the brazen bag. Time hung over her shoulders with a dauntingly infinite weight, haunting her most recent memories, and effecting every sense that gradually awakened from its dormant slumber.

“This is... One way to wake a girl up.. And yet whoever did this, didn’t kill me. I guess it’s because they can’t. Primes can’t die.” she told herself, “But, they could have put me in the Underverse if they really wanted me gone..." She voiced out loud so she would not have to hear the endless white noise roar in her ears. Before shouting, "Why am I here?” at the wall of sand and the constraints of her tortured screams were muffled by the sound of sand that shrieked her own cries back at her as the wind tore into her bones.

The Prime traveled in the hourglass, as time continued to thieve away every one of her breaths.

The braid she had wrapped whipped her shoulders in the wind; when her feet would idle too long, small piles of sand would accumulate on the tops of her boots in hefty mounds. Caira was glad she hadn’t maintained her position and attempted to wait it out, with this weather, there would be a mountain of sand to mark her somberly nameless tombstone.

“The storm came from my left. I know I must be heading towards something.” her voice howled against the chaos. To affirm her sense of direction there were littered glimpses of color that Caira had caught of a fluttering tapestry. Footsteps and fatigue were the only tools she had for measuring how far she had come; if someone had attempted to calculate the time she spent battling that storm, and her arrival to the Town With No Name, they would find that it took about five hours for Caira to finally stumble into the eye of the storm.

The chill of dusk settled with the dimming of the storm but with its fading turmoil, she saw a dense mound of darker color on the horizon. “Civilization!” she said weakly and fumbled quickly towards it, tripping over into her dense enervated feet and collapsing into a face full of sand. She ripped off the balaclava and crawled toward the shadows of buildings, still grasping the hems of her cloak she gritted her teeth to match the edge of the still grueling storm.

The sand beneath her toes started to shift and she nearly tumbled to the ground again, indicating the incline that she would have to face and continued to climb the collection of fresh dough that seemed to take a minute for every crawled 'step' she took to pack down the sinking granules beneath her.

The raging fury of wind had declined, while small fragments of sand still battered and pinched at her cheeks, as well as the other parts of her that showed naked windblown skin. With the brief idle of motion, immediately the immense weight of her lethargy clouded in her silver eyes, her body shuddered yet she had slowed her pace to that of a snail. Don’t stop, you aren’t there yet. Cai attempted to motivate herself and could have reached out her sleeved arm to motion that her goal was within her grasp. When her elbow thundered over a piece of metal that had been covered by the piles of sand, it was finely shaped into a sleek board, had an immense amount of sand upon it, yet it had amplified a slight vibration to its core.

Can it be? The wanderer immediately recognized her hover board, which her captors must have sent askew from her, set off in any miscellaneous direction, so she could not use it to free herself of the trudging, grueling heat of the desert. Torturous intent indeed.

The board's mechanisms had died out here, just before the town and on its outskirts. It wasn’t much use to her now, but she had it in her possession, and with it, she would have one final push as she strapped the board on her back and crawled onward, fingertips clawing into the last stretch of her life.

Caira saw the first bit of moonlight show in the shape of Omni’s crescent smile, but she was surprised after some careful observation to find that she was in the middle of the storm. Much like a hurricane, there was a large calm in the shape of a circle that seemed to surround the town, but the eye of eased winds were passing quickly as another wall of sand threatened to consume the town whole.

She tried not to think of the odds that she had actually found the board once set askew, whether it was chance or logic that her captors had used to send it off in a free direction, or if it was intentional that they sent it toward the town. Whatever group of uglies that had ‘exiled’ her, probably thought what she had just that: It wouldn’t be much use to her on the outskirts of town. Somehow had she stumbled upon it, and the grateful Prime held a prideful smile on her grimacing, wincing face. She held her prize triumphantly, like a turtle with a shell on its back and crawled through a covering and underneath tarp into shelter

At the spree of coincidence, defied, and Caira had found it, the Town With No Name.

...

Meanwhile, in the safety of a dugout on the edge of the boarded up town, some tarps hung to entrench the storm and brace the wind and sand, as piles of it pooled beneath due to the rapid air currents. Within, was a young guard about the age of thirteen, his front tooth was missing and he spoke to his partner who at least quadrupled his own age, “Say, how long you think this storm 'ill keep?”

“Oh, she’ll stay at it for at least another hour,” an old man’s voice wavered with wisdom, “But I’ll tell ya this, I ain’t never seen nothin’ like it before, ever since I fled the Empire in Coruscan'.”

“Really?” the kid chirped in a childish tone of shock and awe as he simply couldn’t contain his endless curiosity.

“O’ course. Usually they blow over within an hour and are much milder,” the older man rose to his feet. “Yes, something’s a’ comin’.” he spoke with a scowl as his fingers played with some fine linens.

“Like what?” the boy looked around with big brown eyes that brimmed with energy and hope as he took a quick peek outside at the rippling winds of sand.

“No, no lad! I meant metaphorically.” the geezer shooed him away from the filtered dust that entered their marquee.

“Huh? How’s that?” the boy tilted his head and turned back toward the guard.

“It means something isn’t actually coming, hell, no one would be stupid enough to be out in this storm. A metaphor. It means that in the future, perhaps the storm’s an omen of some sort- ” he cut off from his momentary analysis and explication when the excited boy jumped up ecstatically and interrupted his thought.

“I think you’re right! Somethin’ IS coming!” the lad’s eyes only grew wider.

“Ah yes, now, as I was sayin' the metaphor-” the guard nodded with his eyes closed, glad finally the lad had given him the attention his stories demanded and assumed his thoughtful expression as his eyebrows creased his sand-worn face.

“No, look here!” the boy pointed to a dense figure through the parted rugs of the makeshift tent, through the wall of sand and wind, enduring the fastest and most ruthless gales the dunes had been not known for many years.

The older man had to check his eyes as he scrubbed them free with his knuckles. He didn’t want a false alarm caused by the sand left in them from this nap earlier that day. The approaching figure certainly wasn’t raiders, but a single girl donned in black.

“Is that whose comin’?” the boy asked, the definition and explanation of a metaphor going over his innocent head.

The older man sighed with a smile, giving up hope for little Murad, “Yes.. I suppose it is.”

...

“When we saw you out there, we couldn’t believe it!” the man explained to the sand-covered woman whose clothes had amply deteriorated from the harsh wind.

The young boy protested, “I could! I could! We were jus’ talking about ya!”

Caira’s eyes fluttered in an attempt to stay open, she had collapsed in their dugout, grateful for the shelter it provided from the wind of the storm and borrowed a canteen of water. Her fingers had fumbled for it eagerly and she felt the coarse grains of sand underneath her fingernails and it caused her to wrinkle her nose in drowning distress. Yet, her curiosity was piqued when the boy mentioned her, “Hm? About me?” she inquired, suddenly suspicious as water dribbled down her chin and neck. After having her fill, she used the rest of it over her face, washing like a cool waterfall over her dust-coated skin. She shook off some of the droplets of water that had accumulated on her chin as the boy in strange garments continued.

“Yup, yer’ the metaphor.”

The old man put his palm to his forehead, all was lost. “What he means to say, is that we weren’t expecting any visitors, especially coming through this raging storm. We haven’t had one like this... Why.. since I was a young boy about Murad’s age here.” the geezer said with a sigh as he pat the boy’s back. Murad gleamed with invincible youth. The old man seemed slightly envious that youth was wasted on the young but didn’t have the heart to tell him of the idiom ‘curiosity killed the cat’ and as friendly as this desperate stranger was, she could still be dangerous to the town.

“So tell me of this place.” her tone echoed lowly, they were easy enough to talk to in her half fatigued state, though she could barely keep her eyes open enough to listen but her bones had settled and it felt as though her muscles were already settling into hibernation. Caira’s silver enervated eyes traced the friable walls, wondering if they were worthy of something so fleeting as safety. She didn’t mind the unsound integrity of the place -which was just a couple of simple tarps- as long as the ceiling didn’t cave-in due to the infinite wind and heavy pressure of heaping sand.

“I’m sorry to ask,” the old man whom seemed to age by the minute said, “But you didn’t know of this place before you ventured out into the dunes in this storm? It is unwise to, though perhaps you got caught in it, I just ain’t sure how you found yer’ way here completely blind.” his voice was accusatory, and he boldly stated his suspicions seeking answers or a confession from Caira, expecting her villainy to be admitted with a boast of triumphant pride.

“I really belled the cat out there didn’t I? But to explain, I knew nothing of this place when I was taken and deserted here without a choice, didn’t see my captors. Apparently I had enemies I didn’t know existed, though I only just arrived in the Omniverse a few months ago. They were capable of abducting me and putting me in the deser-” she stopped, suddenly her eyes narrowed.

“What is it, there somethin’ in yer eye?” the naive young boy said trying to figure her out.

Caira shook her head and continued, she supposed fatigued worked like a truth serum, as she didn’t have enough energy to be defensive or put up a good enough lie to make her seem like a more powerful Prime with limitless capabilities. “...Trapped me in the desert and conveniently enough, at the moment I awoke, this unnatural storm of sand swept me off my feet and I trudged a while before I got to this place. But I believe there is something to it after all.”

Faintly her eyes glimmered with a tired determination.

“What are ye' gonna do?” the old man asked, his eyes soon grew as eager as the youth’s as he was caught up in the mysticism of her story.

Though, maybe it was her lassitude talking, “I’ll give them exactly what they want. I’ll face the treacherous terrain!”

“What? No- its much too dangerous out there, even for a Prime.” the old man explained the bandits of the mountains and the creatures and cretins that dwelled in the great sea of the sand.

“And what of the horrors of the night?” Murad even looked concerned, knowing and recalling the scratching against the walls of his home as he slept by those creatures who had dwelled in the dark for far too long. Along with the horrible stories and rumors he would hear as people would almost never return after nightfall.

“I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think it was possible.” Caira’s eyelids slowly began to wink with sleep, “I’ll rest up and leave soon. If you’d find me a place with a bed I’d appreciate it.”

“Much obliged, little lady.” said the elder.

“Oh, and if you have a village doctor, I should wish to see him...Uh, Immediately...” she had barely finished her words before the triumphant posture of the girl crumpled into one of fatigue, unsupported under the weight of her nodding head.

I am unsure how to use the chat box. I see no where to begin typing. I have read the rules on the chat box assuming I couldn't use it until I did but I still see no where to type. Is there something making my phone glitch or am I not trying hard enough to find it? Help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Secondary Saga- Phase 7 "Kicking Ass and Taking Names"
Posted by: Storyteller - 09-21-2015, 11:21 PM - Forum: The Void - Replies (15)

The group of survivors didn't know what to expect as they gathered their courage and plunged straight into the portal's shimmering surface. But whatever it was that some of them had anticipated as they allowed the gateway's mystical energies to wash over them, it certainly wasn't what ultimately greeted them on the other side.

Aside from the portal behind them, the scene of the thick jungle foliage they had left behind still framed within it, there was nothing but sleek darkness stretching out as far as the eye could see. Cold, inhuman darkness, thirsting to conquer any light that penetrated the lair of shadows. Those who traversed it were immediately reminded of the white expanses of the Nexus — but even the center of the Omniverse, with its vast stretches of nothing, contained landmarks which helped travelers navigate their way to their destination. The pocket of space in which the motley crew found itself in, however, was empty....Or at least appeared so at first glance. The only thing that provided any indication as to where they they had to go were the glowing white lines on the ground — not that they could really distinguish between the land and sky in such pitch blackness — which stretched into various directions, though even they only lasted a few feet before they disappeared into the shadows.

Now of clear mind and unyielding spirit, Christa spearheaded the group's advance into the literal void. But for all her focus and confidence, the leader was no less flummoxed by the situation that they now faced. Her companions were mostly wrapped in silence — some were still awe-struck by the scene before them while others thought about their encounter with the ghastly 'Katia' mere minutes ago. Yet, all of them had the same question lingering in their mind, one that the apparition chose not to address....one that it left Christa to answer. The blonde rebel was aware of this — she could see the curiosity shining, if not outright burning, in their eyes. Whether knowingly or not, she found herself averting their gazes, attempting to focus on the task at hand.

Without turning around, the female soldier spoke up: "Top Man, do you have a reading of this area's layout?"

The robot master had been way ahead of her, checking his data as soon as they passed through the entryway. But it didn't take long for the android to shake his head in response: "...No can do. Every time it finishes buffering and the map appears, it restarts anew and shows a completely different map." Much to the Dataverse celebrity's chagrin, the situation was even worse than in the swamp. Not only was the navigational program completely dysfunctional, even his stream and comment feed were only working with significant connection delays. The responses from his viewers were predictable, but he didn't even have the 'luxury' of reading most of their bile and vitriol they were throwing at him. The massive influx of comments only appeared in random and sudden bursts due to the lag, leaving him little time to read any of it even if he were inclined to do so. "Either the app is busted....."

"....Or the actual physical area keeps changing," Richtoffen added, a conclusion that would have seemed ridiculous in the past. The doctor grimaced, expressing his vexation by letting his native language slip: "Verdammt! Was sollen wir denn jetzt machen, wie ein kopfloses Hühner herumlaufen?!"

"Now, now, let's not lose our heads here," Abner interjected, trying to keep the situation under control. Rummaging through his pocket, he brought out his new lighter and opened it with an audible click. After a few flickers, he finally managed to light the fuse. Yet, contrary to what he had anticipated, the fire he started didn't illuminate the area around them — in fact, it didn't seem to project any sort of light, almost as if the small flame existed in a vacuum. The Captain scrunched his forehead in bemusement: "...Well, that's something." This prompted Top Man to try out his lights, but they did nothing to penetrate the darkness ahead of them either.

"A leap of faith, huh?" Isaac commented, his blue eyes focused on the point where the lines on the surface, or at least what they thought was the surface, gradually paled into nothingness. The veteran wasn't the least bit intimidated by the notion of traversing the area blindly — he had absolutely nothing to lose. Captain Crow, meanwhile, shook his head. As an experienced sailor, he knew that sailing into unknown waters without the help of any instruments was foolhardy. But they had little choice and the pirate certainly wasn't planning on turning around and crossing the wetland that had ravenously consumed some of their comrades again.

The rest of them remained silent, too caught up in their own swirling thoughts. Prodded by her heartache again, Klaud barely paid any attention to the conversation that was going on. The heartbroken general was flanked on both sides by Lyra and Raw Onion, both of which were trying to support and comfort her as best as they could. Clayton and Grobdum continued to throw suspicious and hostile glances at one another, their hands firmly on their weapons. Subtle cues such as an eyebrow raise, a hardened glance over, or a crisply drawn scowl upon their lips, kept both warriors on their toes. Meanwhile, Pinocchio was caught up between feeling relieved that he survived the swamp and feeling slightly intimidated by the blackness ahead.

Seeing as how they weren't going to get anywhere by just standing there, Christa addressed her comrades: "Whatever the case, it's too late to turn back now. We'll just have to risk it. Let's go. And above all else, let’s stick together." With those words, she picked one of the glowing diagonal -but now perpendicular- lines to follow and proceeded in that direction. Some of the others exchanged nervous glances, but followed suit nonetheless. If nothing else, their leader was correct in that they had long passed the point of no return. Besides, this was it... They were on Omni's very real doorstep. Somewhere in the void, beyond what their eyes could perceive, and beyond what their thoughts could fathom, lay their final destination.

***

It didn't take long for the motley crew to get lost but that wasn't the only problem they faced. The group quickly came to discover that its monochrome appearance wasn't the sole unique feature of that place. At seemingly random spots, spacetime did not function the way they were accustomed to. Klaud stepped into a sudden gap that none of them could have seen, her fall only prevented by the quick intervention from others. Grobdum 'fell' upwards onto the 'ceiling' — the shaman quickly picked himself up and began jumping and shouting out of bewilderment, unable to understand why everyone was suddenly upside down. And Top Man had to politely request that people not moonwalk into him on more than one occasion.

Though it didn't intentionally wear down their spirit like the Swamp of Sorrows, the Void's seemingly chaotic and random nature and the inability to distinguish their environment still managed to unnerve them. Clayton in particular was at the absolute end of his patience, quietly walking onward as he resisted the urge to gnash his own teeth out of frustration. After months of fruitless searching, that bloody swamp and now this, he had simply had enough. He was tired of that place, tired of the journey, tired and utterly enervated by the fools and nitwits he had to keep enduring. Not only did it wear his patience, but it also wore at his conscience. It was taking him all his willpower not to put a bullet in a nearby person's head, especially since that 'orc man thing' kept staring at him, observing his every move. As itchy as his trigger finger was, he needed them... At least for a little while longer.

...

Having completely lost any sense of time, the secondaries remained ticking along for what seemed like hours. Fortunately for them, the lines they followed didn't disappear after a few feet like they had originally thought and those glowing stripes continued to help guide them through the darkness. After some time, the group eventually stumbled upon an area of the space that wasn't as empty.

Stretching before them was a large field of various physical objects — stone statues, bronze tools, grandfather clocks, steel cabinets, energy reactors, enchanted lights and much more, all swishing and swirling in the air. Their size, their function, their construction, all of it was entirely arbitrary and their presence had no rhyme or reason to it. It was as though some entity had traveled across countless worlds, took possession of whatever it could find and used the pocket of space as its own private stash. The way the items were placed was even more random than their nature — some stood or lied normally while others were attached to invisible walls or even floated in mid-air. A picture frame -nailed into nothingness- lingered a little too close to Christa’s nose. With some inspection, she would notice the face of a little girl with a shining smile facing right at her. Suspiciously, the leader’s eyes narrowed, as though she were tipped off by an entity more powerful than fate, and a stirring doubt swilled within her, stronger than she could control.

But as bizarre and outlandish as the environment was, there was something else that ended up quickly drawing their attention. Hovering in place in the midst of the chaotic mess was a large, luminescent creature, a being of pure white luminescence. Bird-like in shape, its small body was dwarfed by its massive wingspan, which possessed an unusual tree branch appearance. Though it had what appeared to be a claw-shaped mouth, whether it possessed any other details was impossible to discern — its radiance was too intense.

Awestricken by the mere sight of it, the group hesitantly waded through the field and came closer to the unknown entity. But the unnatural being didn't address them or react in any way — it didn't even acknowledge their existence. It merely continued to levitate in complete stillness, fluttering in its holy grace, and continuing to shine in all its glory.

Finding themselves in an unusual conundrum, the group exchanged hushed whispers, discussing how to proceed. Some thought that they should attempt to address it while others thought it wise to just avoid it. But whatever ideas they had, they never got the chance to reach a consensus, for a member of the group decided to act on his own initiative.

As he ignored the chatter of his companions, Clayton took a step or two closer to the creature. Grinning widely, he thought to himself how this horrid journey might have been worth it after all. If he could claim possession of such a magnificent specimen, the rewards he would reap would be great indeed. There was only a moment or two during which he hesitated to raise his firearm, wondering if he was being a bit too careless about this, wondering if he should continue to feign care and caution. But after such a wretched trek, he was fed up with all of it, both his insufferable 'comrades' and the act he was putting up. Clayton was without compromise. He didn't care anymore....NO ONE was going to get in the way of his prize. The group scrambled around, softly bickering, others pointing, and Top Man continued to try and film it all, only to find the feed of his camera had stopped working.

As the hunter aimed his rifle, Christa caught sight of his reckless actions. Alarmed by his intentions, she shouted: "Wait....Clayton, STOP!" But even if Clayton had cared even the slightest bit about her commands at that moment, it was already too late. A single shot rang out in the darkness, startling the rest of the group. A swished lunge motion and her fair fell as the reality dawned on her. It had been too late.

The bullet hit its mark.... And bounced harmlessly off of a force-field barrier, bright orange hexagonal ripples spreading out from the point where the projectile hit. As the hunter stared in disbelief at his apparent failure, Christa delivered a steamrolling punch into Clayton’s jaw. He was still stupefied by his failure and his body could only swing with reaction to her hardened fist. In the time Christa had taken to sucker punch her favorite hunter, the massive creature slowly shifted, turning around its own axis to face them. Power emanated from its gait, and its powerful stance would send a shrill coil of fear into Christa, as she shook out the pang of pain from her fist. The group, terrified by the prospect of having to face this mysterious -albeit almighty- being, drew out their own weapons, prepared to defend themselves, and ready to put up one hell of a fight.

In a moment, Christa suddenly realized that she now stared at one of Omni’s rumored angels.

Without warning, the secondaries were showered by a beam of yellow light, utterly overwhelming their senses. Screams of terror and agony flooded the void as the group collectively felt something, or someone, penetrating and tearing through their minds, devouring all their knowledge and memories — even those lying within the deepest, darkest depths. As they continued to resist in vain, their bodies contorted in unnatural ways, gruesome crackling accompanying the twisting and turning of their bones. The non-organic Pinocchio and Top Man were no less affected — as their minds went blank, their appendages began to rapidly rotate, almost as if someone was trying to unscrew all of their individual parts. As the star robot tried to screen and analyze the impossible, a disorderly mass of data and images rapidly flooded his imagery receptors as this mental assault transpired.

A few flickers of light, and the vibrance expired. Like a flashbang, everyone was left in a daze. Ears rang, minds jolted, and memories disturbed.

Christa came to and had found herself splat against the ‘floor’ of the Void. The secondary took a breath, as she tried to recover from it all. And looked up only to seem the madness incur on her companions.

And the creature still remained.

Quote: Hey my favorite secondaries! Time to give you the run down for OOC clarification!!!!

Affected parties: Raw Onion
Abner
Grobdum
Isaac
Lyra
Pinocchio

YOU’RE ALL THE CHOSEN ONES!

Well, that, and you’ve been mind controlled by an angel. Guess you pissed off the wrong deity! But some of the consequences your character will endure are: insanity, hostility, hallucinations, illusions. The works of any brain / memory alterations you see fit.

What’ll happen you say?

Each of the affected party members is individually fighting against a battle in their minds. So, there isn’t a ‘team up’ going on. However, the effected members WILL be trying to harm the rest of the group. You may have moments of clarity and resistance in your struggle.

NOT CHOSEN! That’s us - the rest -
Our job is to defend ourselves, or find some way to stop the others without killing them, though Clayton will probably go one shot - one kill, mode. Try your best to convince your friends, or, if you can, save them.

You may attempt to attack the angel, but any such attempt will be deflected by its force field. The angel itself will not attack anyone, it will remain still and continue to mentally manipulate the mind controlled members of the group.

THE BEST PART: (YES I WAS SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST) - A FREE BONUS

You can use the miscellaneous objects of the Void as fodder/improv stuff. I know I will be. Most interesting object gets a cool item, which can fodder, or I may just add it to your overall score as a bonus!

SUPER IMPORTANT READIN'

CAUTION: Your character MAY die this round, so give it your best shot! The deadline is Thursday midnight PDT.

As always, have fun everyone! Write the best you can, make your friends smile, and most of all, KICK ASS.

Thank you everyone!

  The Path to New Babylon

Erin passed through the gate and was overwhelmed by the heat. He had never experienced temperatures this high before as he had spent most of his life in the mountains with his psychic sect. He pulled the hood of his cloak over his head in an effort to shield his head from the glaring sun. He noticed how empty the dunes were compared to coruscant, which meant he would have a hard time finding someone to guide him to New Babylon. He rode aimlessly for what felt like hours but couldn't have been more than thirty minutes before coming across a town. He entered and was greeted by the site of dozens of people going about their business. He heard someone shout "welcome to Carrefore." In his direction but no one attempted to talk to him. He wandered a little before coming across a building called 'Rick's Cafe Americain.' Erik could hear the sound of a large group of people inside, talking, drinking and singing. He tied his horse to a post outside and entered the building. There were plenty of people talking loudly, drinking a variety of beverages and gambling. It looked like a good place to find information to Erik so he approached the bar and began talking to the bartender. Not one to beat around the bush, Erik immediately asked the question he had on his mind. "Do you know where I can find New Babylon?" He asked. The bartender seemed to grow a little tensed when Erik asked this. He put down the glass he was polishing and put both hands on the counter of the bar. "You want to head north from here and turn left in about seventy miles." Erik thanked the man and left immediately, sensing that the bartender didn't want Erik there disrupting his business. He rode north for some time and realised that he was unsure of how far he has gone in miles. After a hasty calculation he decided that he had gone about seventh miles and turned left he rode onwards for another while before a city came into view. Erik urged his horse forwards and it picked up its pace. As Erik neared the city the guards stationed near the gate noticed his approach l. They crossed their weapons as he got close. "What do you want." The guard on the left asked. Erik swallowed and cleared his throat. "I want to join New Babylon." He said, hoping that he sounded worthy of joining the faction.

Erik woke with a start at the fountain of infinity. He gasped and raised his hand to his chest which had a hole blown into it before he died. He looked himself over and saw that he had no injuries on him, even his favourite blue cloak was intact. He was unsure of where to go next so he retrieved his dataverse device from within his cloak and turned it on. He wanted a way to destroy the corrupt government of coruscant so he searched for anything related to rebellions. He found mention of a faction in the endless dunes called 'new Babylon' which was ruled by a king in golden armour. This lead was as good as any so Erik decided to go to the endless dunes and search out the faction. He summoned his customary grey horse and rode towards the gate which most resembled the desert. He was unsure of where to go once he arrived in the dunes but he would find his way eventually. He approached the gate and passed through it. He had no time to waste.

Real Mean Bottle (Can be M)

Jak...

Jak found himself in a hell of a lot of pain. His vision was dark and he saw nothing but the darkness...

Who's there!"

Jak held his head, all he remembered was a stormtrooper had taken out him with a shot of his laser pistol and he had fallen..

Where was.. he?

Was this heaven .... or was it hell?

Did the precursors come to bring him back to his world? No... it was too dark for that...

Jak stopped...

A scary but familiar pain washed over him...

No...

He couldn't be there.... Not again...

There was a clank in the darkness, one in Jak's nightmares as he was kicked by shadow figures cursing him for killing them.

They called him the one thing he hated to hear..

That he was a monster.

He was no damn monster, he had to do what he had to do..

He was clutching a beer bottle in his hand and started to drink "F...Father.. Are you here?!"

Jak's innocent side began to show once again, the small boy who had been trapped inside Jak's body. The pure kid named Mar who was supposed to save the people.

Jak was supposed to save him... himself.."

Jak's dark side crawled near Mar as he raised a claw to the child, when Light Jak grabbed the dark creatures paw and growled "What the hell are you doing?

There was the familiar scent of blood...dying... more..

There was Daxter morning...

Dax... please.. stop.
