Bracket: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://challonge.com/CamelotColosseum">http://challonge.com/CamelotColosseum</a><!-- m -->
Betting: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4163">viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4163</a><!-- l -->
The Tournament takes place at the Camelot Colosseum, a massive Ancient-world stadium not unlike the Roman Colosseum at its zenith, albeit with some more ‘modern’ amenities, like places selling Camelot cuisine and trinkets not unlike the souvenirs you would find at a baseball park or football stadium.
Given the scale of the Colosseum, eight matches will take place simultaneously. The floor/arena portion of the Colosseum is 300 feet long by 200 feet wide. So each fight zone for this and round two will be about 40 feet wide and 200 feet across.
During the entire duration of the tournament, the audience will be protected by an invisible magic shield. This same shield is used to divide up the interior of the Colosseum into eight portions to prevent fights from spilling out or interrupting anyone. This barrier has a ceiling at twenty feet.
Round 1 fights occur on an uneven dirt floor. Medieval weaponry, both melee and ranged, is available at both ends of each fighting area. Each fight area has various 3-foot by 5-foot stone barricades. A large jagged trench seven feet wide and eight feet deep zig-zags through the center of each fight area. The arena has been designed to emulate the minor historical battle fought eight years ago in southern Camelot, where an organized army of deserters attempted to march on Minas Tirith. The battle took place along a jagged fault line. One participant will play the role of Kingdom soldier while the other will play the role of a deserter. Make your own history.
There is a wait of thirty minutes between the first eight fights and the second eight fights (although for our OOC posts, all fights will happen simultaneously). Between rounds, there is a wait of two hours, allowing primes to either heal themselves or seek out medical attention. SP does not regenerate unless a Consumable item is used.
OOC Stuff
Purchases - Moves and other stuff may be purchased between fights. If you buy something during a fight, you may not use it during that fight.
The following are the rules for the first round of the tournament:
Judges: Gildarts/Caira and Thaal/BWNN
Alt Judge: Trixie
Backup Judges (More may be added): Dark Link, Proto Man/Shang Tsung
Word Limit: 750
Posts: 3
Time Limit: 48 hours
SP use in enabled. SP does not regenerate between rounds. Injuries may occur. Neither injuries or SP use are factored into judgment, only the quality of writing.
Note: There are no extensions for people who cannot make the posting deadline. If you miss a post, that will be factored into your score.
Judge Template
Quote:"Description and Clarity:
This section covers how effectively the writer created the world around the reader. Making sure that the reader can understand what is being described, using vivid or appropriate descriptions of items, events and people in the story and having good word choice all go into this section of the review. Note that using “purple prose” is not always effective, nor is consistently using flat, dry description. A writer that gets a good score in this section draws the reader into the world and allows them to see through the eyes of the character/narrator.
Voice:
No two writers write in the same style, nor should they. Even individual stories call for individual writing styles, a mood that creates a tinted lens through which the story is viewed. This is traditionally called the “voice” of the writer and it is a very important part of writing. A writer with a high score in this considers tone, pacing and including/disincluding detail throughout the entire story.
Character:
Character development, the actions and motivation of characters and dialogue are all important in this section. The goal is to create “round” characters as opposed to “flat” ones. Making the people in your writing seem real, not just archetypes following a plot progression is the goal here. The writer should consider who the people they are writing as are as individuals, why they take certain actions, their personal problems and boons, how they interact with the world around themselves and how they approach problems are all considerations for a writer in this section. Note that not all GOOD characters are LIKABLE characters. If you really hate a character that’s well written, this section deserves a good score!
Story:
Every body of creative writing, no matter how short or long, follows a storyline. How well the themes, events, messages and twists grab the reader is what makes the difference between a decent story and a great story. The writer must capture the reader’s attention hold it with the actions of characters and the world around them. This isn’t to say that a writing must be packed with action or intrigue, even something as simple as eating breakfast can be made into a great story. The presentation of events and how those events tie into the writer’s voice is what makes it good reading.
Grammar and Spelling:
This is the clerical work of the body of work. Spelling, punctuation, grammar and anything else that can be considered technical goes into this section. Generally every major grammatical error per 500 words moves this section down one grade."
"1: There is room for improvement. Generally the reviewer should highlight how the writer could improve this area as well as direct them to outside sources that can give more help.
2: This section was about average. The writer has room for improvement but about par with the rest of the site’s writing ability. Reviewer should highlight areas to improve and site specific errors or weak spots.
3: This section is above average. The writer has shown a competency higher than the average writer on the site, but can still notably improve. The reviewer can be vague with their ideas for improvement but still include specific details and weak spots.
4: This section was fantastic! The writer took the reins and really took the reader on a journey. Few errors or room for improvement can be found by the reviewer but anything that the reviewer feels could be cleaned up should be noted.
5: This section is one of the best the reviewer has ever seen. This level of writing is on par with professionals with very few errors and the reviewer should have a hard time finding room to improve. This grade should be handed out rarely, and only to the very best writing!"

If you would like to place a bet, this is where you'll do it.
How this works.
You will pick whoever you think will finish first, second, or third (note that there is a third place match). You may bet any amount of whomever (up to 300 OM spread across three bets or just one).
At the end of the tournament, if you picked right, you will split the total prize 'pot' (x1.25) with whoever else made the same bet.
If you picked wrong, the OM you initially bet will be subtracted from your final participation/prize OM at the end of the tournament.
Quote:Sample Bet
1st Place - Dark Link, 200 OM
2nd Place - Samus Aran, 75 OM
3rd Place - Sarah Kerrigan, 25 OM
If you have any questions, please ask those in the Colosseum Discussion thread and leave this simply for placing your bets. Betting will be open until the end of the first round.

| Mock Fight: Lubbock vs Autumn |

Lubbock wrapped his arms tightly around himself, his slender figure shivering furiously underneath his coat. Some warmer wear would have been ideal, but the assassin would just have to make do with what he had. His bland brown shoes trudged lazily through the snow. It was somehow distinctly more freezing than the Frozen Fields, and that was not a good thing. The viridian-haired boy's teeth began to chatter wildly, showing no signs of giving Lubbock some peace.
"Lubbock... Someone's approaching..." Syura whispered in Lubbock's head, the latter exhaling a sharp gasp, expelling a cone of frost through the biting, chilled air. His vision spun and laid upon a girl with white-blond hair, a guitar strapped to her back. Grinning widely, Lubbock turned to face the girl squarely. "Fancy meeting you here, Rose." He greeted the musician, relinquishing his body from his surprisingly tight grip. The wires upon the back of his crimson gloves glimmered in the tundra light, as if they, too, we're made of ice.

The white, blank canvas of the Nexus spread out infinitely in all directions. Well. It wasn't exactly blank. Not really. You could see quite the number of people (and other things) going on between several points in the distance.
Are those gates? Why in the blazing fire would you put a gate out in the open with nothing around it?
Voice rang out like the thumping piston and full of annoyed resignation.
There was no answer. In the middle of great white nothingness, under a towering structure of brass cogwheels and flowing water, there was no one to listen in. At least no one who the man could see.
The man. Who the hell is he anyway? He is sitting on the slowly disappearing into whitish nothing pavement beneath the Fountain. Currently, he is rather distraught, lost, simply trying to collect himself. One moment he is chasing pirates around in-between the Reefs of Tzar in the Southern Reaches and the next he is floating in the darkness, and now he is here.
The fuck.
He is clutching the only thing besides clothes and hat that he has with him, his sword. He could try to find respite in a trusty metallic ally by his flank, he could try and do something else, but now all the could think of was...
This thing will break soon if start using it...
He just muttered to himself. He probably was doing it for at least an hour now. His clothes were soaked in water vapours and errant splashes from the fountain behind him by now.
If someone were to step closer and look him in the eyes they would see that his left one, concealed behind a misty monocle, was glowing faint, slowly diminishing red. You could almost use it as an indicator of how accustomed he was to the situation.
Damn it, I need my pipe. And it is left in my cabin. Blazes...

Autumn trudged through the snow, freezing cold. Even in her winter outfit she couldn't stand the cold. "God damn why did I come here seeking an opponent to spar with?" Her eyes perked up as she saw another figure in the distance. She yelled out to it, "heeeeeey!!! I challenge you to a friendly duel, do you accept?" She took her guitar off her back, and awaited his reply.

The Kid exited the portal that lead to the Nexus. It looks like he had chosen poorly, nothing but sand for miles around. It was all the eyes could see. Already he could feel his hammer and bow weighing down on him. Which is nothing when compared to his (albeit incomplete) armor. What he would give for a barge, he thought to himself.
The boy looked at his hands. Could it be done? He had drawn these two weapons from his back like he they had always been there. Could something larger be created. Omnilium, whenever he grabbed it all he could see where the blue and white shards of his old world. He gripped it and started to think. He envisioned it.
It would be twenty minutes later when the young man realized that he simply could not do it. Air travel was the primo way to get around in Calandia, if he could not summon a flying boat here then what hope was there that he could summon something else? "Nothing for it then." He said as he braced himself with his armored left arm and ventured forth. Another Kid would have turned back, perhaps to try and see what the other gate way's lead too. Not this Kid however. He had not seen a single sign of human life anywhere here. Despite being told there were others like him. When you knew only so few people, the prospect of finding others would be enough to drive anyone on. Besides, if he needed water he could always call it from the shards.
He was on his way, going no particular direction, into the Endless Dunes.

So, who here watched an loved Code: Lyoko? I know I did, and I would love to see Lyoko as a visit-able place in the Dataverse. Maybe, a side thing from the actual dataverse, enter-able from some factory in the lowest tiers of Corusant? I dunno what purpose t would hold really other than being hella awesome.
