All-In

Sin walked the lonely street at night with a purpose, slowly finding her way to a bar on the edge of town. Her steps echoed through the future. It was full of gambling, music, and drink. Most important of all, it was rumored to be the favorite spot of her next target.

To be called an assassin would be too high of a compliment to the secret vampire. She was a mercenary at best. She was a mercenary that was always alone, recommended by word of mouth. With a job, she was less suspicious and could freely roam the country. Her current position was south of the Titan Dessert, where work was plentiful, and secrets were easy to keep.

And yet, someone was able to come across her secret life. She imagined it was some whore she paid to sink her teeth in. Never trust an unfaithful woman... Never.

A shadowy man had slipped into her alley with a job offer, one she couldn't refuse. Mostly because he threatened to send word to a large hunter group about the whereabouts of a delicate looking woman with intimidating fangs... She instantly knew he wasn't bluffing by the calm heartbeat she could hear drumming softly from his chest. So she snatched the coin purse he waved about in front of her so that everything was legit and asked for details of the job. This was usually the opposite, as she liked to know what she was getting into first hand.

The man had a desire to eliminated another, someone by the name of Barsig. Whoever this guy was, he seemed to have pissed off the wrong people. The 'client' assured her that it was most important or he wouldn't have succumbed to blackmail. She hardly believed he'd never stoop that low but said nothing. Safety was her main priority. She could not go back to the cages! She was lucky that all the guy wanted her to do was kill a guy. But she made plans to leave tonight just to make sure that's all they were getting out of her.

The 'Lucky Beaver' was alive with laughter and music heard from a few blocks away. She stepped into the bright lighting of the front entrance, looking the place over with her crimson eyes. She wore her white hair just past her shoulders and half pulled back in a silky black ribbon. Her clothes clung to her small 'delicate' frame, a black sleeveless turtleneck shirt, and dark brown shorts that were shorter than normal. She wore fingerless gloves over fishnet arm warmers, the right longer than the left. Tight leather boots with heels that stop at her knees over black stockings. Around the left bicep she wore a leather strap with a solid metal cross, and around her right thigh, she strapped a dagger. As she walked into the place, her hips naturally swung from side to side, seductively.

Sin had received a brief description of the man she was looking for by the unlikable client. There were a lot of handsome men in the large building. Only a few of good-looking men had their hair pulled back in ponytails.  In addition to that, only two with blondish-brown hair. She eyed the one closer to the age range the blackmailer specified, roughly early to mid-twenties. The singled out male was at a poker table as to oppose the blackjack table or the dice games the other guy was at.

Sin observed this player long enough to notice two things. One, the man in her sights was currently concealing a weapon, fairly well. And two, he was good at playing the other men at the table.

Poker was a game you had to have a lot of skill in to win usually, that or you had to be shit lucky in to survived the card sharks. Barsig had plenty of both, as well as the added pleasure of stacking the game in his favor. He was currently holding a really good hand, a four of a kind. Jacks. However, unfortunately, he was also aware of there being a flush in the hand of the man on the right end of the table. In the process of stacking the deck, he forced another good hand into his opponents. Not his best move, but shit happens.

"You in or you out?" The dealer of the hand was a guy with a cigar in his mouth.

Barsig would wager that he had the full house and probably thought he was sitting on big money. Normally he'd like to prove the smug guy wrong, but he wasn't going to waste his money doing it when he knew there was a winner that could top him. He was about to fold, but before he could say anything, he'd been cut off.

"He's going all-in." Sin said confidently, leaning on the table between Barsig and the other man on his left. She then looked back at him with a grin over her shoulder so he could get a good look at her ass and try to argue with it.

Barsig's eyes consumed the exotic woman who was leaning next to him. Light skin, white hair, red eyes. Shapely hips, sizable chest, and soft kissable lips. He realized what she was saying and knew it was insane but stole a  glance at the guy with the flush. He looked somewhere between cocky and surprised. Barsig let his eyes fall on the dealer as if he would give him any sign whether this was a good idea or not, and then at another guy who was still in... He looked back at his hand and then gave a weak smile.

Might as well!

He looked straight back at the dealer, a thin man with a thin mustache and bushy brows. "You heard the lady. All-in." He confirmed then motioned to his stack for the woman to push it into the pot. She followed his command with a sly smirk. Even if he lost the whole pot at this point he still was able to enjoy the view as she pushed all his money into another man's pockets. At this point, the game seemed so distant to him.

Sin smiled up at the other players before standing up straight and cocking her hip into the air as she leaned onto her target's chair. Male targets were so easy... Flash a little skin, come in close and whisper a few things and they'll follow you all the way to death's doorstep.

The remainder gambling men look at each other nervously then back down at their own hands. The odd man folds by slapping his hand face down, the guy shook his head and hugged his chest. He lost a lot of money tonight, maybe it was time to throw in the towel?

The man with a full house looked his cards over trying to imagine what the guy had to be so confident about this decision. He was on the verge of folding himself, that is until he noticed he was holding one of the only cards that could beat him. The man that Barsig wanted to fold didn't, he was apparently ready to risk it all, pushing his winnings in and slapping his cards down on the table with the faces of the cards positioned up.

Barsig was afraid that would happen, but part of him had wished his bluff would have worked so he could have stolen that pot. With a heavy sigh the wanted man tossed his four of a kind down on the table. He ran his hand through his bangs and shook his head. He lowered it like he couldn't believe he'd lost, then turned to the woman with his best wounded look, trying for her sympathy.

Sin smiled gently at him. "Well, at least you still have the girl?" She suggested innocently.

"Mm.." Barsig smiled at that. "I think I can live with that." He claimed,  leaning back in the chair. "Would I be able totake the girl home with me, too?"

"You think the Mrs. will be ok with that?" Sin baited him, knowing full well he had no wedding ring on.

Barsig grinned. "Don't have a wife, but if I did I doubt she'd object to someone as beautiful as you." The man said as smoothly as he could.

Sin turned her body to present full interest in him and lean against the table. The men watched, not understanding how the man that almost cleaned them out could be smiling after a loss like that. "I guess I can't argue then." She said playfully, then presented her hand to him. "I'm Sin. Need me to be your vice tonight?"

Barsig smirked at that, clever. He took her hand gently, and without looking away from her eyes he kisses her naked fingers softly. "Barsig." He introduces himself politely. "Tonight's lucky sinner." He flirted openly with a playful smile.

Sin grinned back at him, amused by his cleverness. "Don't make me wait for too long." She warned him gently before leaving, swinging her hips a little more purposely as she walked away towards the entrance.

"You heard her boys, can't stay much longer. Great game by the way." Barsig spoke quickly, standing up and collecting his things. "We'll have to do this again some other night." He taunted before trotting behind the woman with an eager smile.

Pain.

The last thing he remembered was a searing heat through his chest. He’d been running from the Stormtroopers in Coruscant after escaping interrogation. Something didn’t sit right with the Hero of Time. They were after Sawada, for whatever reason, and he’d rather face death than sell a friend out. Whatever they wanted, it was something sinister, so he ran. As far and as fast as he could. But, apparently, escaping had earned Link a bounty. He rounded a corner on the fourth tier of Coruscant and was met with a blaster bolt to the chest. And then nothing, for what seemed like the longest time, just darkness.

Until there wasn’t. The darkness was replaced by the complete opposite. Blinding white light as he opened his eyes, accompanied by the gentle lull of water, behind him. Strangely familiar, yet far from comforting. The Hylian squinted, trying desperately to focus on something, anything really. Salvation came in the form of his little blue companion, fluttering around his peripheries, squeaking all manner of greetings and questions. He ignored it, for the time being, as he pushed himself shakily to his feet with the fountain edge for support.

With a groan, Link pushed himself away from the fountain and made his way towards a gate in the distance.

“Wait.. Link, we’re not going back there.. Right?” Navi practically whimpered as she fluttered quickly to catch up.

“Not yet..” Link spoke, headed in the opposite direction to Coruscant.

Masahir couldn't keep the overjoyed grin off her face. The lights on stage were blindingly bright, tiny beads of sweat formed on her forehead- hands only able to wipe them away when she turned her back on the audience in a vibrant twirl that sent her ruffled red dress into the air around her legs. Her thick arched eyebrows furrowed in delighted effort as she hit those birdsong-esque notes in her upper range. Her chest puffed out with pride at every perfect sound she made, every perfected and practiced dance move.

Shimmery blue eyeshadow framed her dark eyes and accented sharply against her desert-tanned skin, it caught in the lights and dazzled in competition with the sequins of her gown. Her wide hips swayed in time to the beat- the feeling of the music seemed to ripple through the entirety of her body.

“Y aunque la vida me cueste, Llorona, no dejaré de quererte. Y aunque la vida me cueste, Llorona, no dejaré de quererte- no dejaré de quererte- no dejaré de quererte--! ¡Ay, ay, ay!”

She dipped her head and curtsied as the upbeat orchestral music pulled to a close, lights dimming around her gave a small respite from the heat of the stage. The avalanche of claps started as attendees rose from their seat to shower her with roses, red and white. She brushed a few loose strands of black hair out of her face before blowing kisses at the crowd, “¡Gracias! ¡Gracias mi amors!”

She managed to catch a few roses with nimble fingers before the curtains closed in front of her. She let out a small sigh of contentedness as several assistants rushed up to her from backstage, fussing over her hair and her makeup, asking her if she wanted wine or water. Masahir couldn’t help but give a soft chuckle at her ‘maintenance team’.

“I will be fine my busy little hummingbirds~ ... But some raspberry wine would be perfect!” She assured them lightheartedly before she glanced over to a rather athletically built security guard. “You, el escolta! Come here.”

“Yes, La Bella?” He’d closed the gap between them quickly and formally.

“¿Cómo te llamas?” She batted her thick lashes up at him and daintily adjusted her necklace.

“Maurício Foley, La Bella. How can I help you tonight?”

“Well, mister Mauricio, I am ready to be shown my gifts, take me to them.” Her tone was no less polite than it was a moment ago when addressing her advisors of course. She twined her arm around his and made a small motion. “Actually, escort me to my dressing room and have the presents brought to me in fifteen minutes, I have a new gown to change into.”

The muscular man dipped his head in a nod and pulled her along with a tempered patience. Every few steps a new person came up to her and greeted her, striking up a conversation.

“You performed wonderfully tonight, La Bella!” A new stage technician greeted. “Oh gracias mi amor!”

“I’ve brought you exotic flowers, La Bella!” A VIP club member called as they presented her with a large bunch of fragrant orange flowers. “Aww, mi amor, you shouldn’t have! Gracias~”

“Can you sign my poster miss La Bella?” Came the voice of a small girl, accompanied by someone who looked to be an older brother. “Of course mi amorcito precioso!”

Eventually, with enough slight nudging and persistence, Maurício finally managed to get the socialite singer to her dressing room. He took up his station outside her door while she reluctantly slipped away to change.

She stretched her arms up and let out a long exhale that sounded like something between a sigh and a yawn before she absent mindedly unzipped the back of her dress and worked it down her body.

“You know, you should probably check your room before you start stripping.” The speaker’s breath fanned against the back of her neck and she tensed, goosebumps raised in sharp relief against her normally smooth skin. Her heart felt like it was going to punch a hole in her chest with how hard it was thumping away. She was about to let out a scream when the uninvited guest revealed themselves; the small frame seemed to materialize from some tucked away shadow.

“Ji’aaj-Dar.” Her lips pulled down at the corners in a frown. Her stance relaxed a bit, but she still kept her arms wrapped around her chest in some attempt at modesty. “What are you doing here? I thought I made it clear that I wasn’t interested anymore.”

The sand colored Khajiit rolled his eyes and gave a sharp flick of the tail. “What’s the point in being modest mi amor? You have no modesty as of late. I’ve seen the magazine’s photoshoot. Everyone has. Your skin isn’t special, certainly not enough to cover up now.”

She gritted her teeth and narrowed her eyes. “Except I consented to that, pendejo,” she spat.

“Awwe, poor wittle la behwa still sore over our pwitures? What, and now you suddenly do want to share with the entire dataverse? All of Nippur? The Omniverse? I guess I’ve just made you into an addict, haven’t I, you whore. You could never stop begging for attention. It’s pathetic and disgusting.”

He stepped towards her, clawed hand outstretched to touch her face- brush a lock of ebony hair out of the way. The sound of her stinging slap reached his ears before he fully understood what had happened. Her small frame huffed in anger and she looked dead at him with a glare that could set him on fire, “Don’t you DARE touch me puta!”

Rap-ta-tap! “La Bella, are you okay?” Foley asked from outside. “La Bella?... La Bella open the door!”

Bottles of expensive perfume and fancy makeup sets toppled over and shattered on the ground as Ji’aaj-Dar grabbed her by the neck and forced her backwards onto her vanity table. His biceps bulged as he squeezed her dainty little throat. Her mouth popped open and she gaped like a fish out of water, eyes wide as she stared up into his feral black ones. Her hands pulled and clawed at him, desperate to pry her attacker away. He smashed his mouth into hers, fangs catching and cutting her lips.

He pulled his head back, ears flattened against his skull. His words came out in hisses and in that moment, as black and white speckles flickered across her vision, she thought of a beautiful desert cobra. “I will touch you however I want jer gajithka jetwijijri zaj zrishiit.” His speech faded into the dull dense pulse of her heartbeat.

Her eyes rolled back in their sockets, the cobra in her mind lunging forward.

What was life to the living? What was death to the dead? She remembered Ra’tima telling her a story about the great white smiling one that summoned special people into existence. Were they really just people, or... could someone consider them gods? These untouchable immortals with the power to create and destroy at will, gifted with the mystical ability to return from the dead, mistakes seemingly erased.

Maybe she would wake up revived somewhere in a distant land, like those beings the Smiling One summoned. Her king had returned from what everyone called banishment, a fate worse than death! The flashy blonde and dark haired teen that served the king had also returned from the afterlife, multiple times even!

She could hope, but in her heart she knew that she wasn’t special.

She wasn’t going to come back.

~ * * * ~

The piercing bleeps of the heart monitor filled the room. It came in a steady rhythm and beat against Ra’tima’s spirit like rough ocean waves on the shore. She’d been in this hospital before, she knew it’s rooms and had walked its floors while doing her damndest to prop up the ravaged city in Gilgamesh’s absence. The pure white walls had always made her feel so trapped and helpless.

She squeezed her upper arms with her fingers, as if it could possibly bring her any comfort. Nothing about this palace of death could ever even begin to soothe her.

The ceiling light flickered.

The hospital had always been the most well maintained of all the buildings in Nippur during the post-war time, and yet it still needed work.

She leaned her head down, small fuzzy hands moving up to massage her aching temples. Why did it seem like nothing was going to improve in her life? She used to be the queen of the world, controlling what went where and how much it cost. She used to be powerful, feared, respected. She was Lady Nocturnal’s incarnate, the chosen champion of all thieves!

And now she was powerless, holding onto the hope that the bruised body of her daughter would just... stir, react, do anything that showed she wasn’t going to be a brain dead vegetable.

Her sharp blue gaze lingered agonizingly on the blank face of Masahir- covered in flowery discoloration and a mouth full of the feeding and oxygen tubing- and for a moment she was looking at the dirty face of that skinny urchin girl she saved all those years ago.

She reached out to grasp her daughter’s hand, careful to not disturb the IV needle. “Please, tal, do not stop your rakna. You must... You must stay with your strength.” She squeezed her eyes shut and exhaled a shaky breath. A prayer was mumbled through clenched teeth.

A rapping knock came at the heavy yellow door. A delicate looking elf seemed to float into the room with such soft steps. “Ma’am?”

The khajiit woman didn't respond.

“Ma’am, visiting hours are going to be over, here shortly.”

“This one does not care,” came the low, hissing answer. The doctor pursed her lips and sighed. Loved ones were always so stubborn when it came to obeying the visitation times. The khajiit woman was the rule, not the exception in this case. Always had been.

The dark skinned she-elf moved across the room and crouched down next to the grieving mother.

“Ra’tima, listen to me, please. We've given Masahir the best care that we possible can. I've pulled all strings and ropes in the background that I could. You know that we care about you here, but standing guard over her won't protect her or help her right now.” The merchant's ears flattened against her skull at the comment. “What would really help her is if you made sure to handle the legal side of this tragedy. Be her voice in this time of uncertainty and make sure the scum who did this is held responsible to the highest degree.”

The doctor's gaze softened a bit. “You have access to the ears of our King. You are a saint in the eyes of our people. You can make that change we need into a reality.”

The doctor stood and left, leaving the feline to digest her statements. The concept came to the mom slowly and visibly. Her eyes widened and her posture seemed to perk up as each realization dawned on her foggy mind.

She was gonna kill him, one way or another.

  Vote For Us! (June)

You like having more people to play with, right? That was a rhetorical question, because having more people to write with is awesome. Do you also like OM? If the answer is 'yes', which OBVIOUSLY it is, then please vote for us on the following sites!

RPGfix (every 12 hours. If you register, your votes count as x2. Worth the couple of minutes to make an account if you're going to be voting every day)
Top RP Sites (Daily)
Top Site List Planet (Daily.)

Vote on all sites, then post here with "Vote 1". When you vote on all sites again, post "Vote 2". You are allowed to vote again 12 hours after your previous vote, and we're okay if that only affects RPGfix. However, you should be trying to vote on all sites, as the reset times vary.

Tl;dr: Vote for all the sites, put "1". Next day, do the same and put "2". If you're really hardcore, you can vote every 12 hours, but it's not necessary.

If we find out your votes aren't being counted (and yes, we take the times you voted into account) we will give you the benefit of the doubt the first time as a mistake. However, if it happens again, or if we think you're not bothering or simply haven't read this, we will remove your voting privileges and you will no longer be eligible for this monthly bonus.

At the end of the month, if you posted ...

5-10 times: You get 100 OM.
11-16 times: You get 200 OM.
17-22 times: You get 300 OM.
23-28 times: You get 400 OM.
29+ times: 500 OM, and a fistbump from me for being so damn diligent.

If you have an alternate character and wish to claim your reward on that account as opposed to your main one, please let us know in the topic before the month ends. If you don't, we'll assume you want the OM on the account you posted with.

Thanks for voting everyone!

The Green Lantern Corps did not exist in the Omniverse. This was something that after a lot of thinking about it, Jack had realized. No one who slung a power ring was around at present in the Omniverse - to his knowledge. As he walked through the green part of Camelot and looked up into the sky, Jack saw a floating island. An island like that couldn't be possible, could it? However it worked was a mystery to Jack Darby and right now he did not need any more mysteries on his plate to try and puzzle through. The bow of Primus was a good weapon, even if the one he had created lacked the powers of the original. It was not going to be enough to allow him to endure in the Omniverse though. Jack knew this because he was under-equipped. Perhaps there was some sort of relic in the Omniverse that he could put to use. There had to be something, but what could the youngest Darby wield as his primary defense in the Omniverse?

  Staff Postings
Posted by: Alex - 05-31-2018, 07:07 PM - Forum: The Whateververse, Man - No Replies

We have said it before, the Omniverse is a family-run farm. We nurture the wee ones in the hopes that one day, those of you with enough experience and extra time on your hands, who're still around, can give back to help those new nooblings with their joining forms and move approvals.

With the shift to Departments, staff work is a little more localized. By their nature, some Departments will need more hands than others, and that might ebb and flow will change as time goes on and we host more events and launch more big scale 'stuff'.

Unlike the last 'staffing help call' thread, this will be more specific, and I'll post openings as we see them. If there is a posting you are interested in, all you have to do is write up why you think you'd be a good candidate and email that particular Department Lead (cc me, Alex).

In case you're not comfortable with the current 'openings,' I want to include this well-made message by Dane from the last thread. He included a lot of great ways that members can help out.
There are plenty of ways to help the site without being a staffer! Both you, Warren, and anyone else reading.

Firstly, Monthly Voting. This one is the easiest to do, and you get OM out of it. With just a few extra clicks a day, you can help the site grow.

Secondly, Quick Questions. Lots of people have questions they ask, but not every one needs to be answered by staff. I'm sure you've even asked some yourself. So, if someone asks a question you know the answer to, why not take a moment to help them out? It's a simple action, but by far one of the easiest things a long-term member can help with.

Thirdly, feedback. Every so often we have a Book Club thread where you can review and comment on another members stories to offer useful feedback. What did you like? What did you dislike? Did you think it was good? Are there ways you think they can improve? This doesn't need to be super professional, just a string of thoughts is fine. What really matters is that you took the time to read their thread, and put in an effort to compose a response. You also get OM as a reward for doing so - if you needed an incentive.

Book Club isn't the only opportunity to do things like that. Sometimes other members might make a thread asking for feedback on their work. If you happened to have read some of their stuff already, or feel like taking the time to, actions like that can be very useful to them even if you can't offer anything more than "I really liked this post". While stuff like this won't directly help any staffer load, when people do this it drastically improves the community. For example, if you've read some of my writing, and have feedback or comments, you could take the time to say something in Dabony's Q&A/C&C Thread (shameless self-plug, I know).

Alternatively, there's also the Move Creation Workshop. It was designed as a place for members to help iron out moves before sending them to move approval. So, yes, I (Dane) might be a staffer now, but I used to help often before I got my fancy blue name (sometimes with my Ebony account instead). If you see a move there and think you can help someone with it, why not take the time to do so? Even if it's just something basic like asking them to say how fast their fireball travels. When I started out, I used to just go through the move checklists from the rules for everything rather than commenting much on balance. See Move Requirements: (<--Link)

And Writing Moves: (<--Link to checklist)

Lastly, you can also offer to judge fights. Only high profile PvP events require an official judge. Your beef with someone can be judged by any member, unless you and your enemy can't agree on a judge. Sometimes, there'll be a fight topic in the discussion forum where the fighters need someone to judge. Such as Viola vs Pennywise OOC, where my character Viola fought Jade's Pennywise. This has already taken place (Yuuka judged it), but it might serve as an example of what sort of threads you'd be looking for. You may find that some people deny your offers to judge their fights. This isn't because they hate you or anything. It's because they'd prefer a more experienced judge to decide who won. Either they want feedback they don't think you can provide, or they would prefer a judge they know more about. If you keep offering, and genuinely think you're able to make a good ruling, someone will accept. You don't need to do a lot of fights yourself to be good at this, but I'd advise you read some first if you haven't already. All you need to do when judging a fight is wait until it's finished, read it, decide who you think won (based on what happened and how well people wrote), then decide your winner and write a brief explanation.

These were the main things I can think of off the top of my head. But, if you want to help out, there are always ways to do so. There might not be anything in the MCW or in QQ that you can answer right now, but there's bound to be things that pop up. If you don't think you're up to the task for answering questions all the time or helping with moves, even actions such as reading others threads and engaging with the community can make the Omniverse a better place. Regardless of how you help out, if you keep up with it, you will get noticed.

Edit: Besides assigned threads you can help in, if you think of another way that you can help people, like Jeffs Roster Advice thread, why not act on it? If you're unsure what you'd want to do is "okay", then feel free to shoot me a PM.
