  Fear is the Mind Killer
Posted by: Paul Atreides - 02-16-2016, 01:34 AM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

One moment Paul was in the desert, the hot winds of a forsaken world casting about him and then next he was in eternal whiteness- a void. It was silent as the still sands, but he could feel an oncoming presence. Paul waited, patient and unmoving as a white form- really a void within the voice- spoke to him. Paul did not talk, he simply took it all in. His mentat mind allowed the flow of information to passively be collected. He had experienced patience before- or at least he had thought he had. Was this one of his dreams? He spun about even as Omni talked to him... or at him?

Paul’s eyes fixed on the one calling himself Omni as he introduced himself to Paul. The young Atreides regarded him with a degree of careful respect- the way a warrior might regard a noble of uncertain allegiance. Would this shapeless man help or him or cause him harm? The way he spoke was like that of a god speaking to his creation and, if his words were to be believed, that is exactly what Paul was- his creation... of sorts.

Paul’s mind recorded the words, transcribing them like a computer might. These were the rules of this world and this was the “game”. Dream or not Paul needed to survive in this reality- he needed more information for only that would keep him alive. It was the Fremen way.

“That which submits rules. The willow submits to the wind and prospers until one day it is many willows- a wall against the wind. This is the willow's purpose.”

He had to serve Omni... or at least submit to him for the time being. He knew not where this submission would lead but he knew it was better than the alternative.

As Omni’s last few words “I’ll be watching … and waiting...” rang in his ear and then he heard something... familiar. It tinkled, and dripped, sweated and rolled. It was... water?

A fountain greeted him, suddenly there. To Paul, a man who all but lived in dreams, such things were not uncommon. Before him stood a deep pool, water dripping from some unseen point on high. His heart beat in his ears, his stillsuit still clinging to his form. Licks of water splashed upon his face but he thought little of it. He was of two worlds- a noble of Caladan and a Fremen of Arrakis. What was water to a noble? Nothing, but to a Fremen it was life. He filled his pouch, it was not something his Fremen training would allow him to pass up.

Next came a choice. He knew instinctively it was a great one. There were eight gates that lay at the edge of the horizon. He was no stranger to walking great distances. He needed not transport for what was two hours of walking to a man who could walk the deserts of Arrakis- from sietch to sietch- in a night’s effort?

They said “polish comes from the cities; wisdom from the desert.” and he felt the calling of the desert from one place and the politics of the cities from two others. He knew not why he felt this but he felt it none the less. As he walked he began his journey to the city. He was a creature of the desert, true, but he knew the power of the seat of leadership. Walking ever onward, Paul finally reached a great stone gate. He would see his sands again soon enough. Men in archaic garb came and went and Paul passed before them with the easy countenance of a man who has seen many worlds.

“Any road followed precisely to its end leads precisely nowhere.” He recited in his mind, choosing to travel to the world his heart told him was the center of power- the perfect place to start. He had a feeling this dream would be an endless one and did not fear it- for fear was the mind killer...

  Jacket (Joining)
Posted by: Ash Williams - 02-16-2016, 12:14 AM - Forum: Joining - Replies (9)

Character name: Richard "Jacket" Fritz

Character source: Hotline Miami

Character history: Jacket is the name that this ominous resident in Miami, Florida goes by. His story begins when he turned 21 and joined the US special forces. He gets stationed in Hawaii in the mid 80s when the Soviets started invading the US territory. After serving in the military, he retires to Miami and start a fresh life. In early April 1989, he starts getting these weird dreams after a breakup he had with his girlfriend. The dream involves him in a dirty apartment with three figures sitting there with animal masks such as a horse, chicken, and owl. One of the three strangers that was wearing the chicken mask asked him four simple questions such as do you like hurting other people, who is leaving messages on your answering machine, where are you right now, and why are we having this conversation? One morning, Jacket wakes up with a message on his answering machine telling him to go to this location and there is a package left in front of his apartment's door. He opens up the package which consists a mysterious note telling him what to do and a chicken mask. This event dawns Jacket's bloody relentless massacre on the Russian mafia. He kept getting these messages in the morning and continued to do those tasks which most of his actions were killing off every Russian gangster in this specific location. In early June 1989, he receives one message that would change his life forever. He hops in his Delorean dmc-12 and drives off to the location which took him about an hour to get across the city. It didn't take him long to murder every Russian that was present to the area. When he killed off the leader that was leading part of the mafia group, there was a phone on the desk in the room that he killed the leader in and answered it. He heard the caller that sounded familiar like the one who questioned him in his dreams and about his actions. "A new morning is arriving..." the phone hanged up after those words and Jacket walked out to his car and gets in. He starts driving down the road and noticing a blinding light he was heading into and was not sure what it was. A flash happens in his vision and can't recalled what just happened. Perhaps the new morning has arrived thus bringing him into the Omniverse.

"Go on Heroes! There is very little left for you to do. Some of you have fallen but I'm sure the rest of you can succeed this quest! Those named Ruby and Weiss have already returned to the Omniverse and are alright. The rest of you shall be rewarded."

-------------

Okor finished looking around the destroyed city, it's crumbling remnants seeming to fall apart at any second. The Plague Marine turned to see a floating purple figure, cruelly smiling at the Marine. Odor's hate fueled up inside him and he confronted the purple apparition.

"Smiling one why do you insist on torturing us so!" The apparition merely smiled at the Marine before speaking.

"Your essence is MINE!" The apparitions boney finger pointed at the Marine. What the apparition didn't expect was a fist full of brass knuckles knocking it back, spraying a dash of blood on the ground. The apparition's smile turned into a frown before it raised it's finger.

"Your death shall be painful." The apparition hissed at the Plague Marine. Okor just scoffed before answering. "You may very well try." The apparition made a fist and Okor slammed to the ground, every muscle weighing a ton. He began to feel nothing at the bottom of his feet. He began to realize, his feet were no longer there. The rest of his body turning into crumbles and he could all but lay there as the apparition used his magic.

"Is that the best you got." Okor mocked the Spirit as he disintegrated into dust.

  Omniverse Private Academy Social Classes

Welcome to the Omniverse Private Academy for Prime citizens and esteemed secondaries...

But in all seriousness, this is a thread based around the idea that our characters are teenagers going to high school. Just imagine Tartar Sauce as an emotionally challenged and jaded teen struggling his way through raging hormones and terrible acne. No powers or weapons (cause those aren't allowed in school, silly!), just good ol' fashioned drama.

Below are a list of social groups. If you are interested, please read over them and post which one you would like to fit in.

Emo/Punk Crowd.
This group likes to hang out in the less populated areas of the school campus, tending to mostly themselves. Black is a common color you will find in this group. Don't fuck with them... One might cut you with their edges...

The Popular Crowd
Jocks
These are the pride of the Academy's sports clubs and organizations. Mostly comprised of the Athletes themselves and their groupies. This group is often found in the school's courtyard or the school gym and sports area.
Preps
The children who can do no wrong. Teachers love them. Students hate them (envy them more like), and seem to be flawless in every way. Deceptively cruel and dark. Will do ANYTHING to win. Usually hang with the jocks.

The Normal People
What more is there to say? They look at the rest of the school with a bleary-eyed and detached gaze. Normal.Psshhh.

The Geeks
The card playing weebs of the school, these people can be found mostly in a secluded classroom, playing a tabletop game or just staring awkwardly at each other.

Paul Atreides (Joining) (Ready for Review)
Posted by: Paul Atreides - 02-15-2016, 04:34 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (3)

Character name: Paul Atreides

Character source: Dune Novels

Continuity: I am using the literary continuity (not film) and I think it would be best to pick him up pre-Water of Life but post Fremen training. Sometime after he has taken the name Muad'dib. At some point I’ll “awaken” him and have that whole thing happen. Don’t plan going as far as the Preacher or gola incarnations.

Character history: The son of Duke Leto Atreides and his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica. The Bene Gesserit brought Paul's parents together with the intention of producing an Atreides daughter; who could then mate with the heir to House Harkonnen, and produce the fabled Kwisatz Hadarach, or super-being. However, the plans of the Bene Gesserit sistherhood were thrown into disarray when Jessica, due to her love to Leto, gave a male heir to his House.

As the son of Duke Leto Atreides I, Paul grew up with a privileged background on the water-covered planet of Caladan, the ancestral home of House Atreides. Though he lacked companions his own age, he did receive tuition from his teachers, men like Thufir Hawat, Duncan Idaho, Gurney Halleck and Doctor Yueh, as well as education in Bene Gesserit methods and techniques from his mother. Shortly after his fifteenth birthday in 10191 AG, Paul's father revealed to him that Paul's training, through his teachers, had been geared toward turning Paul into a mentat. The theory was that when Paul succeeded his father as Duke of House Atreides, one of the most respected and moral Great Houses of the Imperium, a mentat-duke would truly be a formidable force in the Landsraad. Paul's latent talents also earned him the attention of the Bene Gesserit, who tested him with the Gom Jabbar as they hoped to salvage their breeding program through him.

Paul Atreides accompanied his parents when House Atreides was relocated to the desert world Arrakis to manage mining operations of the Spice Melange. However, when the deception of House Harkonnen and the Emperor Shaddam IV was revealed, he escaped into the desert with his mother and joined the Fremen. Upon joining the desert people he took the name Muad'Dib.

This experience, coupled with significant exposure to the Spice Melange triggered dormant prescient abilities within Paul's bloodline. These abilities, coupled with his leadership skills, his military training, and an ancient prophecy of the people of Arrakis, enabled Paul to become the leader of the formidable Fremen.

(Source: http://dune.wikia.com/wiki/Paul_Atreides)

Stats:
ATK: 2
DEF: 2
SPD: 4
TEC: 2

Starting Proficiencies:
Physical Strength (1000)
Area Shield Proficiency (400)

Starting Powers:
Burst Movement (800)
Trained by his mother in the ways of Prana-Bindu, Paul can move quickly over short stretches of space. Known to some as "the Weirding Way", those skilled in it appear to move at unimaginable speeds. It appears to onlookers like closer-quarters teleportation. It functions by altering one's perception of reality, and thus mastery of the Weirding Way required a dramatic shift in one's concepts of both space-time, and cause and effect.

Foresight (1,500) (Pre-Awakened Kwisatz Haderach)
Though he has not awakened it, Paul has the potential genetic memory of all those who have came before him in his genetic line (known as "Other Memory"). Still, he has a degree of unrecognized prescience brought on by his exposure to the Spice Melange. He is aware of things within 20 feet of him (as is typical for foresight).

Starting Moves:
Crysknife (300 OM)
A sacred knife to the Fremen people, a crysknife is a tooth of a dead sandworm measuring about 20 cm. It is unparalleled in its sharpness, able to cut through body armor if wielded by a skilled fighter. A crysknife is fast, accurate, but lacks the range of a sword.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct. I do indeed confirm it.

Where did you find us? Checked you guys out a while back.

Total OM Spent: 4,000

Hey there, Sunshine, how's retirement?

I'm enjoying the off-season. I made a beach from some of the omnilium I got from being the best host ever. It's nice. How did you spend your earnings? I'm assuming you probably called it blood money and donated it to charity, amirite?? Nah, you probably made it into even bigger guns. Great way to spend that, I think. What's more ironic than the hero using the juice she got from murdering people to make bigger things to murder people with?

You are a poet and a role model, Sunshine. If I had a daughter, I'd want her to be just like you.

Anyway, enough about you. I love my beach. Lots of strong drinks with the little umbrellas and an assortment of cabana boys to make sure Mr. Jak doesn't get bored.

I went scuba diving last Friday and found some pearls. I even went surfing a few times. You try surfing? It's a thing you do for fun where you swim out on plastic boards and ride the waves.

You know what fun is, correct? Or is that stick still snug up in you?

jk of course :-*

I've missed you since you tried to jump my bones after the competition. I'm hoping you can scrape off enough of that rust to join a future Syntech competition, Ms. Aran. It wouldn't be the same without a valiant hero gruesomely slaying all the villains.

Smooches,
Karl

Also, I included a picture of me working on my tan. I gained a little weight, it seems. A diet of booze and young meat can do that to a man, you know. My advice would be to print it on that extra glossy paper and then frame it for above your bed. Then again, you probably sleep on a bedroll on a concrete floor. You strike me as the type ;-) 'NO COMFORT FOR I AM SAMUS ARAN. PILLOWS AND FEATHERS WILL WEAKEN MY CONSTITITUTE RAARGH'

Extra smooches!
