  oHarmony: Round Two OOC
Posted by: Guu - 09-26-2016, 06:10 PM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (11)

What what? It's the end of the month? It's time for another set of matches!

http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...5#pid81135

The next deadline is October 3rd! (Delays may or may not occur due to murderous unicorns.) The two submissions we got are already in the pool. If you like to resubmit a character who already has a profile on the site, say so here! Otherwise, go ahead and fill out an app!

I look forward to see what match ups we get this time, mwahahahahaaha.

A Message To Those Thinking About Switching Characters
Posted by: Omni - 09-26-2016, 10:05 AM - Forum: Omniverse Discussion - Replies (6)

There will ALWAYS be a newer, more exciting character who is cooler, funnier, with better powers, and so much easier to write as.

The more you switch, the worse it gets. Because the only thing that will ever make a character feel yours is when you invest a lot of time into them. When the history is there. Like a relationship, it changes. Maybe you're not posting every single day. But the posts you do make matter more. They have the context of all those stories that came before.

And of course writing becomes a challenge. You have to keep that history in mind at all times. The relationships they've made - both player and non. With a new character, you get to be free of that history - everything is open and nothing is off limits. I get it.

But if you continually switch you will never push past that plateau of the veteran character, and you will never grow as a writer.

Like a relationship, sometimes a character is just wrong for you. But unlike a relationship,YOU picked the character and crafted them for yourself. And if you took the time to do that, then you must have been in love with them at some point. You must have imagined the potential and history, what it would be like when they hit Tier 3. So when people say "I've run out of ideas, I can't write as this character anymore", what I hear is:

"I've hit a wall. It's become harder to write as this character."

A lot of people genuinely think that they're doing the right thing when they switch. That's why I'm writing this. On a site like this where you can be literally any character, the temptation to switch is huge. Every time a new show comes out, or you see a new movie or a new game where the character is badass, it's natural to think "they'd be cool as a character". But switching is harmful to the site as well. The more you switch, the less history and intrigue there is among the player characters. When you join a site and you see that #1 power-player, that's fascinating. How did they get there? How was the character changed over time? They are part of the story now. That is one of the coolest facets to a PbP RPG, IMO.

And there's one thing all the very top players have in common: they didn't switch.

My advice as a very long-term roleplayer who's switched away from Samus and decided she was too hard to write several times before the Omniverse: Make it work. You'll be fine.

... Unless the character you picked was a gimmick novelty choice to begin with, like the character of a webcomic. Then you should fucking switch and put more thought into your new character this time. :pac:

Colonel and Demetri fought once. The thief had allies of convenience. I won, barely.

Now we're both stronger, and less stupid. LOGICALLY WE MUST FIGHT AGAIN.

And so we shall.

Appraising the First Avenger - C&C Thread
Posted by: Centurion - 09-25-2016, 09:39 PM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (2)

I joined this site partly because I loved the idea and partly so that I could become a better writer. I've seen some stellar storytellers thus far, and I'd love to join their ranks. So, if you feel generous, a bit of your time and a lot of your opinions would be greatly appreciated. feel free to pick through any and all of my posts, but I'd personally prefer if you picked on more recent ones. At the time of this post, I'm involved in this thread: (http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...n=lastpost) and this one: (http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?tid=6548). My writing tends to be consistent, so i have no real preference for which post you read. Even if you want to read a few to gauge my overall style. Overall, I would greatly apreciate some constructive criticism on my work. many Thanks!!

Or do you have a super-fast SSD that is too small to hold all your steam games at the same time?

Then try Steam Mover.

Following on from a very interesting post on the Steam forums I've created a little app to make moving the files and creating the junction points much much easier!

This thing has allowed me to download SO MUCH MORE. I'm constantly having to delete things to make room for new games (I'm looking at you, DOOM. 60gb, what the fuck) BUT NOW I CAN HOG TO MY HEARTS CONTENT BY PUTTING EVERYTHING ON MY D DRIVE. THANKS STEAM MOVER Confusedamusdance: Confusedamusdance:

  Email to Victor Wolfe
Posted by: Shay Cormac - 09-25-2016, 07:04 PM - Forum: Dataverse Messageboards - Replies (6)

Victor Wolfe, if you somehow happen to get this message, please respond. In utmost honesty, I do not know why I have come to you in times like this, because I'm sure it's unlikely you'd care much for what happened all that time ago in Nippur.

After I woke up, the city was practically turned to rubble.

Putting it shortly, not to waste your time, Agnès went missing after that day. I don't know what happened to her, and I've been looking ever since, still finding nothing. I stayed in Nippur for a few moments after realizing this, but I couldn't help in good conscious not knowing where she was. Everybody else seemed to be gone as well.

I wanted to stay, I wanted to help those people, and I believe I am too late, if already too incapable of rebuilding what was lost.

Once again, I'm not quite sure why I spent a sizable ten minutes trying to remember the name of this "e-mail" of yours, but I simply felt a need to tell you that I'm still wandering around, here if you need me or find anything of note.

From,
Shay Cormac

  [IO!-IJAIRC!]Breakfast at Daybreak
Posted by: Demetri Malius - 09-25-2016, 05:50 PM - Forum: The Tangled Green - Replies (2)

Finneas yawned before blushing heavily, realizing that Kyda was still leaning on his chest, he small frame softly moving as she took each breath. He gave a low exhale as he softly picked her up and set her aside, a small wet spot on hsi shirt where he can assume she most lilkely drooled slightly. However, Finneas took almost no notice, instead his panic overriding his senses as he set her down. He had been a bit too tired last night to really think through having a woman in his bed, but after thinking about it for a few moments and calming himselff down, he remembered that he needed to keep in mind that Kyda wasn't accustomed to society like he was. He gave a light sigh before deciding to head out into the lab and kitchen.

He yawned one more time, just before opening a cupboard from what one could assume to be potion ingredients. Until he began to grab a bowl anbd mix various items in it, starting to make a meal.  He pulled out several different covered eggs, some even with odd looking patterns and shapes as he cracked them open and stirred them in the bowl. He added a pinch of different spices, adding a nice and thick consistency to the mixture before pouring what almost appeared to be pink milk into the bowl. A flutter whizzed by Finn's ear and he turned to see that Nyx was already up with him. He wandered around the counter to a small pair of circles where he looked through, seeing a light greyish blue sky.

"Just a tad buit before Daybreak, eh Nyx? Didn't know you could wake up so early."

The bird chirped as it watches the flame haired alchemist "brew" breakfast, getting a few more bowls of different ingredients before holind the egg mixture in his hands. He began to use his abilities to give it a soft glow, softly saying a few words  as the bowl heated and began to cook. The smell of breakfast soon filled the air and Finneas heard something stir in the bedroom, just before there was a loud buyt cute yawn.

"Seems to be that she's finally up, isn't she Nyx, feel like fetching her while I prepare the plates?"

The bird seemed to understand as it chirped and flew towards the bedroom, Finneas hearing a groggy response from a barely awake Kyda.

He chuckled as he finalized the plates, setting them on the table and grabbing a few drinks when he heard footsteps come his way. He looked up as he held two cups of orange juice in his hand, a smile on his face. Kyda's hair was frizzled as she wiped her eyes, yawning again.

"Good morning, I just finished making breakfast. Care to have a bite with me Miss Kyda, or will you wash up first?" he spoke with a bow, before placing the cups on the table, listening for an answer.

"So sleepy... but... I want to eat first."

"Come join me then."

Finneas helped her sit down at the table, providing a fork for her brightly colored eggs and what appeared to be some ham and hash browns, all which looked and smelled quite delicious.

"Ah, and here Nyx, just for you." Finn spoke as he set over a bowl of some food that seemed to resemble a bowl of worms,  to which the Phoenix happily began to gorge down.

"So, I was thinking of probably checking in with this man I had met the other day, a few weeks before you came. He asked of me to simply keep track of things around these parts and let him know of anything interesting. Perhaps afterwards we can go and look for ingredients in the forest,? That is, if you wish to join me. I am low on a few ingredients."

Meeting the Avengers [Kate Brewster] (Open)

Kate appeared in this strange world from a world more desolate and dark then usual, and she was pregnant with John Connor's son, but she thought she could still become useful even off the battlefield.

After all the Resistance's best surgeon was needed somewhere and she found herself knocking on a strange A-shaped building door.

Mr. Jarvis popped out and greeted her, noticing her body was bigger than usual.

"Hello, Ms.. May i help you?"

  Ambrosia Symbol
Posted by: Guu - 09-25-2016, 03:08 PM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (2)

I kind of took the old one and touched it up a bit:

The arrows represent the chaotic nature of Ambrosia, the different colors represent the different nature of its people, how this land is home to many different species and kinds. However, despite being very different all of them form an octogon, both a literal one in the center, and a figurative one with the heads of the arrows, representing how despite our differences, we still make a whole.

The pink circle is Guu if that wasn't obvious.

What do you guys think?
