Mr. & Mrs. Bixby Go For An
Posted by: Tearen Wover - 05-01-2017, 06:47 PM - Forum: The Void - No Replies

Tearen turned around slowly to regard the angelic Prime. A great weariness had overtaken Tyrael’s face, and Tearen found it curious. He could tell the gilded warrior was reconsidering his decision, but the ex-enigma was not sure why. He doubted his petulant threat to side with Diablo had been significant enough; it doubtlessly had to be a ploy that had been used many times. Except, perhaps, for the fact that Tearen’s suggestion to himself had not been a threat, per se. It had been honest. If this bastion of morality and harmony would not allow him to pass, he simply had to find a way around. More than that, however, were Tearen’s intentions, and this suspicion was validated when Tyrael spoke again.

“You truly wish to help the people of the Omniverse?” the angel intoned. His voice was grave beyond telling. Tearen felt a rush of mixed emotions, which released as a long sigh.

“That was always my intention. Before coming here, however, I was too far removed from mortal life to know how to do that…” Tearen said, leaning heavily against the vault-door walls. He shrugged helplessly.

“...so you worked as you had been taught. Anarchy and freedom of mind, and pain of the ignorant be damned.” Tyrael said, thumbing a small talisman clasped to his cloak.

“Pretty much. I forgot the pain that brought to my previous state of being. More importantly, I know better now that striving to be more than human, to make the world as ephemeral as a dream, to try to rid yourself of yourself... leads only to isolation. Omnipotence without objective. Omniscience without comprehension. The children of the Omniverse deserve a better fate.” Tearen said, his voice beginning to hitch. The Shadow could no longer bring his eyes to meet those of Tyrael. The angel’s compassionate heart wrenched in his chest, before he calmed himself with memories of this Prime’s black deeds.

“Like Rebecca?” Tyrael asked, his voice steady. Tearen didn’t know how Tyrael had divined his relationship with the Little Sister, but it didn’t matter at that moment. Tearen uttered a heaving breath.

“A...her among many. Divine beings such as you and I, to us, all mortals are but children. Earnest and hopeful. All of the Omniverse’s inhabitants are this to me, and I have been slack in my parental duties.” Tearen said. The line between metaphor and reality was starting to become a tad too blurred, and both Primes recognized it. A few clenched moments passed before Tyrael brought the conversation to cusp.

“What is your plan?”

Tearen shook his head.

“Not...really sure right now. Heh, how human. But, yes, my first order of business is to find Rebecca and see to it that she is taken care of. After that…” Tearen trailed off, trying to formulate a long term plan. It had been so easy when he was in a state of god-mind, but perhaps it was better this way. Still, there was one thing that bothered him.

“Tyrael, when was the last time you heard music, other than a war chant? Really good music?” Tearen asked, finally bringing his eyes back to the angel’s. The question seemed to honestly catch Tyrael off guard.

“Uhm...I…” the legendary Prime stuttered, turning the inquiry over in his mind. “I can’t think of the last time.” he finally conceded. Tearen nodded empathetically.

“It’s a problem. Maybe I’ll start there.” the Shadow concluded. Tyrael eventually cracked a wary smile.

“I can enable that.” Tyrael said, snapping a clasp on the talisman he had been fiddling with. A golden band of light tumbled into his palm, and he held it up for Tearen to see. A reverse banishment circle? If it was such an object, the angel must have kept its means of creation a closely guarded secret. Omnilium could do many things, but it also had a mind of its own. Many people had tried and failed to create the object that Tyrael now offered him.

“Well, if you ever come back this way, bring some music with you.” Tyrael said simply. Tearen loosed a small laugh.

“If I don’t get banished again I’m probably not making enough of a difference. Consider it a promise.” Tearen said, pressing the banishment circle into his chest. The sandstone hallway and Tyrael’s curious expression melted away in a shower of sparkling ochre…

…

Black.

Utter blackness.

Tearen blinked a few times experimentally. The blackness remained. This was a far cry from the porcelain brilliance of the Nexus that he had been expecting. The Shadow felt around him, palming at the smooth darkness that enveloped him. As his palms clinked against the dark matter, white lines traced themselves over the vectors of this ebon environment. Tearen sat up and smacked his head sharply into an overhang. White lines traced a taunting path around the impact point of his forehead.

The ex-enigma gingerly excised himself from the geometric cubby that he had been reformed in and stood up. Waves of white lines bounced all around him, like ripples in a pond. Evidently he was not the only one trying to navigate this maze. Tearen realized this must be the eponymous ‘Void’ he had studied in his first Prime body. An in-between world, the space between spaces.

Tearen may have been mystified if it wasn’t for the fact that much of his time spent as a minor deity had been in a place such as this. Despite his rekindled humanity, the ex-enigma already felt an affinity for this black and white labyrinth. In short, it felt good to be home.

Tenuous reports indicated that any Verse could be reached from the Void. If so, there must have been apertures that led into the Omniverse proper. Tearen decided that it would be prudent to find such a portal to the Frozen Fields, being that it was Rebecca’s last known location. Still, any door would do; even the Ashen Steppes would be closer to her than the Underverse. So, with cautious footsteps, Tearen walked through the eerily silent boulevards and sweeping tesseracts that built the seemingly nonsensical architecture of this place.

Honestly, Tearen found it rather aesthetically pleasing. He didn’t bother getting upset when he would turn a corner to find himself upside down from where he had just been. Such was the nature of hyperspace, and it was better to accept it than fight against it.

The Shadow decided that, in spite of it all, he liked it here.

Tl;dr: Vote for all the sites, put "1". Next day, do the same and put "2". If you're really hardcore, you can vote every 12 hours, but it's not necessary.

If we find out your votes aren't being counted (and yes, we take the times you voted into account) we will give you the benefit of the doubt the first time as a mistake. However, if it happens again, or if we think you're not bothering or simply haven't read this, we will remove your voting privileges and you will no longer be eligible for this monthly bonus.

Posted by: Shay Cormac - 04-30-2017, 07:42 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

Aches split across Shay Cormac's body like ocean waves in a storm. He already knew where he was; the cold feeling of the floor, the scentless air, and the twinkling of the Fountain of Infinity nearby.

The Nexus, once again.

A terrible feeling sank into the Templar's gut. He needn't the time to explain to anybody or anything how exhausted he was physically; not like he cared either. Remembering the fight he "just" had was tilting enough. The knot in Shay's stomach only tightened the immediate moment he realized it has been a very long time. He wasn't sure why he assumed this, other than his internal clock utterly failing him.

Just like that, a figurative collection of a million thoughts assaulted his mind; Agnès, New Babylon, Victor Wolfe, Gilgamesh, L.A.W...

The man was surprised that, at the very least, the Assassins didn't immediately pop into his head like they usually did waking up from a headache-induced sleep. Though, now that he was thinking of them, it wasn't exactly a relieving note. Of course, that only followed by the fight that had him knocked unconscious on the ground just then too, in which case Shay would have rather not thought about it.

But, reality is reality; the artifact was lost.

"Shite," Shay spat, sitting upright and putting his gloved palm on his head.

Sighing, the Templar got himself upright, frustration overwhelming him. Could nothing go my way at least once? He dwelled, furthering to anger himself. Trying to breathe, Shay's admittedly brash thinking got in the way of anything construct and reasonable he could possibly do to help himself. Not like you could blame him either; What the hell is the point in doing all of this if Gilgamesh is still gone?  Shay continued to ponder, only now realizing the intense agitation he felt, eventually calming down in a moment of self-reflection.

Only now does he ask himself these questions out of concern for his own well-being, Shay contemplated. He couldn't keep that up for long however; Shay felt temptations to never step foot in the Dunes again, but... He realized still that he had a city that he practically had to take care of now.

The Templar gritted at his teeth, looming over the fact that it's been so long.

It was almost as if he could feel the terrible searing heat of the sun, despite now standing upright in the temperate chill of the Nexus. Perhaps the man was biased, considering he used to swim in freezing water with heavy coats on all the time, but alas, you can get used to the cold. Not the heat; and you certainly couldn't get used to consequences.

Wiping the sweat from his brow, Shay Cormac of the Templar Order strode forward, the sights and sounds of new Primes going and leaving far off in the distance putting the man at a strange sense of peace; the concept of walking back to the familiar gates of the Dunes not seeming as bad as it once was a moment ago.

Alas, it was time to get back to work.

Since we don't want people abusing the system to retcon events or influence the OM gain system, in-character edits need to be approved by a staff member. We know this is inconvenient, but it's caused problems in the past, so we ask that you use this topic to notify a staffer and get your edit approved if/when you need to edit a post.

Once you submit the edit, your post will temporarily vanish to the Mod CP, where a staff member will approve it. This process may take more than 24 hours. If you find yourself waiting for longer than a day, you may use this thread to bring attention to your request. Do so politely.

Deletion of IC posts or threads - DO NOT try to do this yourself. You MUST submit that request here, in this thread, so the post/thread can be permanently deleted, which should automatically adjust your OM.

Posted by: Fate - 04-29-2017, 08:21 PM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (7)

Fate was unsure of what just happened. The blonde magician couldn't recall anything that occurred before her meeting with that mysterious male entity, who introduced himself as Omni, the creator of an entire world called the Omniverse. He even took the time to explain the girl a few things about herself, the world he has created and about an orb that he called Omnilinium, which could grant her any wish she'd ever have.

Almost immediately following that introductory chat's end, Omni disappeared, leaving no trace of his - until that moment - important presence, leaving Fate alone in an eerie, dark-colored space. What the magician didn't noticed, however, was that she was neither in a black space nor standing, instead, she was now in surrounded by a purely blinding white environment, falling towards a ground she couldn't even make out.

"W-Wait, how did I end up in this dangerous situation!?" screamed Fate, as her eyes - full of tears, by the way - slowly adapted to the white scenario. Her blond twintails, which were almost as long as her arms, waved violently because of the resistance they offered against the air, while her arms and legs were flailing erratically out of pure terror. This continued for almost five full seconds, before the blonde girl eventually recovered her composure and calmed down.

Still in her sudden freefall, Fate began to think in a way to sort through this dangerous situation, What should I do... Discarding the risky option of just letting myself crash against the ground, what other options do I have left to take? No matter how hard she focused, no useful ideas came to mind, as the panic once again tried to take over her.

Ten seconds passed since she started to fall towards the blank ground. By then, Fate could even begin to recognise the people and/or whatever was walking in what she thought was a deserted landscape. The fact that they were seen as extremely little black dots by the blonde meant two things; first was that they were hard to distinguish, but they moved, so they had to be people, and the second thing was that she had likely five minutes or so before her face hits the ground, which was a bit reassuring, but also meant that if she didn't thought about something quickly, it wouldn't be long before she meets her death at the white ground.

"Ah, right, I still have that!" said the girl, recalling the orb that Omni had once mentioned before during the introductory talk, "If he was saying the truth, I think I can use that orb to bring something capable of softening my land!" Not wanting to waste more of her precious time, Fate began to look around for the aforementioned artefact and after a second or so, she found it falling next to her, less than a feet away from her current position.

The task of grabbing the spherical object proved to be harder than she thought, but at the end, Fate finally grasped the orb; the Omnilinium. It glowed in a variety of colors that changed to one another in a span of less than half of a second, giving it a nice look in the eyes of the magician, "What a beautiful object... If only I wasn't in the situation I'm now, I'd definitely take a closer look to it, but first things always go first," said the girl, who, immediately afterwards, held the orb next to her chest, hugging it tightly before closing her eyes with force, and also repeating the same thing in her mind, Please let me land safely, please let me land safely, please... However, time passed and nothing seemed to happen.

Panic and terror were, once again, slowly taking over her mind as the minutes passed without nothing happening at all. "Please, I desire for something happen, anything, just... Just please, save me!" Fate screamed, her eyes being closed with more force than before, so much that tears were coming out of them. Then, with less than 10 seconds for her to crash against the ground, the Omnilinium orb, which she has been pressing tightly against her heart, started to shine with an intense light, almost as blinding as the white landscape, and took over her, covering the blonde completely. It seems that the item understood her desire and has translated it into a way to accomplish it.

"E-Eh..." was what she said when she failed to feel the wind crashing against her face, "D-Did I make it...?" with fear, Fate slowly opened her crimson eyes, only to see that she wasn't falling anymore, instead, she was enclosed in a bubble, similar to those soak bubbles that kids seem to enjoy so much, though this one was stronger, otherwise she wouldn't be sitting inside of it, with the glowing orb being placed neatly on her lap.

A long sigh of relief escaped her soft lips immediately after realising she was now out of harm, while a thought popped in her mind, Now that I'm safe, I guess I can take my time to watch the surroundings... The first thing she noticed was that the bubble stopped her fall just a couple of meters before crashing, "L-Lucky..." said to herself, feeling how the cold sweat on her entire body began to disappear now that the shock had passed.

Leaving aside the fact that Fate was miraculously saved, the blonde also saw people walking here and there; some with a clear confusion, while others seemed to know where they headed to. Some had a human appearance, just like her, but there were a lot, too, who weren't exactly human; Lizardmen, beastmen, even robots were walking among these many people. Their costumes and equipment varied greatly from one another as well, as there were people wearing chainmails, gauntlets and the like, while others preferred more futuristic get-ups, with clothes full of LEDs and carrying laser guns with them.

I... I think I've seen some of those creatures before, but I can't really remember where... thought the magician, Actually, I can't remember almost anything, and my head hurts for some reason... Maybe it's just the stress...? Fate continued to sink into her thoughts, while still sitting on her knees, inside of the so-precious bubble, that descended slowly towards the ground.

Then, slipping a bit out of these thoughts of hers, Fate said something that just came to her mind, "Is this bubble ever going to pop?" Fate extended her right hand towards the round walls of the bubble, which diameter was almost a feet and a half bigger than her own body, and touched them, realising how soft and jelly they actually were, "Surprisingly enough, it feels like a big soap bubble, to be honest, so it might pop at anytime..."

Whether if it was because of something she said, or because it was getting near enough to the white ground, the bubble popped, startling the magician, who was appreciating the bubble where she was in. The fall, however, lasted less than a second, not even giving her time to cry in horror. Finally, she was in the ground, safe and sound, and without any serious wound.

T-That was frightening, but I guess I did say it would happen eventually... Fate thought, using her hands to stand up. Her feet were shaking slightly, not out of fear or shock, but because she haven't used them in quite a while. Much has happened, but the good thing is that I'm alive and that I won't be falling to my death anymore... I hope.

After making it to the ground, Fate found herself without an stable lead. Yeah, she landed safety, just like she wanted, but now what? Trapped in an unknown world where weird things seem to be happening anywhere at anytime, and where she knew no one that could bring her assistance, or at least an idea about what to do. Unsure about anything, Fate decided that the best thing she can do at the moment was to find a place where to gather information, but as far as she knew, the white landscape was, if you leave aside the thousands of people walking around, completely deserted.

"Huh?" Just when she turned around, a certain pool located a few feet away from her immediately caught the girl's attention. "Wait, the thing that is coming of that pool over there is... Hot vapor!?" Fate noted, heading quickly towards the smoking pool, "Yeah, there's no mistaking it, this is not a pool, it's a hot spring..." she continued, her eyes failing to locate the floor of the hot pool. Then, a thought arose in her mind, Somehow, I believe this hot spring means something to me, but I still can't make heads of my memory...

Immediately after she realised that, about the smoking pool having some relation to an event she couldn't remember, an image flashed through her mind. What!? Fate exclaimed in her thought, W-What was that... A memory? The image, or memory, depicted Fate and an unknown, brown-haired girl, seemingly fighting against each other at close combat, in a place that looked like a public hot springs. Why am I fighting against that girl, and why looking at her rings so many bells inside my head...? her thought suddenly stopped when a name escaped her lips in an almost inaudible whisper, "Nanoha..."

The sole mention of that name made her feel many things: Sadness, happiness, fear - These were some of those feelings. Nanoha...? Is that the name of the girl in that brief memory? Even if her memory was still foggy, Fate was certain of something, that girl, Nanoha, was really important to her.

"Nothing will happen if I stay here, looking at this pool, trying to remember things while my mind is so foggy..." Fate said to herself, eyes locked on the smoking hot spring, "But even if that much is true, what else can I do?" The idea of using the Omnilinium orb to show her the path to follow crossed her mind, but she shrugged it off because it doesn't seemed like the correct choice.

Fate finally stopped just looking at the pond and rose her head, looking at the people walking around to get an idea about where to go. Then, while glancing at the people, the blonde noticed a weird blight faraway in the distance, actually, after further inspection, she realised that there were like other seven lights coming from each one of the cardinal points, but not only, she also saw that the people and the creatures who knew their way were heading towards those distant lights.

Feeling that these lights were the lead she was hoping for, Fate decided to head towards one of them, choosing the one at the far east, that was the one where most of the knight-looking people were moving towards; some walking, and others mounted on a vast variety of vehicles, especially horses, which for some reason trotted extremely fast, way more than a common horse would.

Tightening the grasp on the small, shiny orb, Fate finally began her long walk towards the light. She had no idea if it was the right choice or not, but she definitely wouldn't just wait by the pond for something to happen. Who knows? Maybe she will start remembering things as she approaches to the distant light; or more exactly, the gate to the kingdom of Camelot.

I'll take it as a compliment
Posted by: Dane Regan - 04-29-2017, 10:35 AM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (10)

Dane Regan was a hard person to stump. Even after being thrown into a strange new setting, he was able to analyse his situation. What did he know? What could that suggest? How could he learn more? And what did he want to do from here? These were all questions that buzzed around his head as he discussed with himself. He didn't see much point in physically doing anything until he could do so with a well thought out rational outlook. And so, he just sat there on the hard white ground staring into the white sky with his back facing towards the small shack behind him, a changing object he'd later learn to call "The Fountain". He clapped his hands to his cheeks, and rested his elbows on his knees, just thinking. His brain did feel a tad sluggish, like early in the morning, so he had to check it still worked.

Hmm, what do we know...? We know who we are. We're Dane Regan. A former soldier, a heretic, a scientist, an academic, a wannabe mage, and pretty good at the whole combat strategy thing.
Wooow. We know who we are! Amazing! My mind is blown! It's good to know reading books payed off in life.
Before discussing new information, it is always important to clarify what you already know. A simple oversight can be very costly. There is no need to be sarcastic.
Sarcasm can be funny though. Isn't making people laugh a good thing?
Yeah, don't be a killjoy, I was totally just lightening the mood.
Need I remind you all, that this is a conversation going on inside Dane's head, and we're already going off on tangents. Anyway, bringing us back on track, where are we now?
A white place in the "Omniverse".
Where and what is the "Omniverse?
Omni's personal playground. He brought us here, or claims to.
Normally you'd be more angry about these sort of things. Surely.
Maybe, but besides you, did any of us really care about our homeland. They were all bunch of idiots.
We have insufficient data to support the claim they were all idiots. Though I do concede that many were easily swayed or influenced. Regardless, who or what is Omni?
The dark silhouette thing that told us they brought us here. They're like a god or something.
Objection! I refuse to accept that claim. He's probably just some dude that got hyped up on power so decided to play games with us "lesser beings".
I wouldn't go that far. We know he is powerful, but the secret to that probably lies in the Omnilium is was holding. We couldn't talk or sense much in our little meeting, but I'd be willing to bet that it's some sort of highly concentrated magic. Everyone has motives, even if ours were deemed questionable to some. We can't just point at someone we understand little and pose such as short explanation. He could have any reason.
When did Omni become a he?
His voice sounded male. At least I think it did, our meeting is blurry in our memory. Which somewhat suggests it was more of a dream, which could signify he's capable of influencing minds as dream manipulation is a similar technique. But teleportation sickness has been known to have similar and much more extreme effects on non-mages.
We could just find someone to talk to. They could tell us what we need to know.
We don't need to know anything. This is a waste of time. Let's do something.
Like what? Exactly. Our first actions here matter. If what Omni said is correct, we cannot die here. Not permanently. We will theoretically live with our actions forever.
No. That means we're immortal. We can do whatever we want with no long-term consequences.
Besides imprisonment, losing potential friends and helpful resources, etc.
We got this far without anyone else.
I'd like friends. Even if they drag us down to, say, 75% strength, and we do the same to them. Together that's 150%. Which is more than the 100% we currently opperate at.
We wouldn't have been able to win that battle without me besides us. Although, what you said earlier is correct. There is little we can do just by sitting here, thinking. We will likely need to explore or get assistance. However, now we're awake. Properly awake. Our mindgames did have a useful purpose. The only real topic that remains is why Omni brought us here, and what Omni wants with us.
We're pretty cool, right. That's probably why.
To be fair, he did say we interested him.
So, he's probably using us. Or maybe he needs us. Either way, let's just take it as a compliment.
And a new chance at life.

Dane stood up swiftly, causing the slack in his beige trousers to iron out, and his soft orange shirt rippled from the motion. He still had is swords, and his shield, strapped in their respective positions. But without his bags and pockets full of books and nick-nacks, he felt naked. Still, that could be dealt with later. He grinned; he had a whole new world to understand. There was no point in dwelling on his past meeting with Omni, as he was sure they would eventually meet again soon. Someone with a character like that was unlikely to watch over the world with a hands-off approach, he figured. Dane could relate to that. When left to their own devices, people rarely worked together without a common goal. Stretching his arms, he walked about idly, glancing off into the distance. He decided to let chance decide his fate for once, and he hoped it would be fun. After all, the others here were also deemed as interesting characters so he doubted it would bore him.

  A Scientist, Stolen.

Quote:“My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

“This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.

“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

Axemerax arose, no longer recumbent on the void beneath him, servos whirring as they struggled to lift the durasteel of his armour off of the ground, its surface shining under the sourceless light that bathed this strange new world. Endless blank planes stretched across the horizon, reminiscent of the salt flats of Merax in their barren, lifeless nature. The Scientist Supreme breathed in, various subsystems within his suit flooding what remained of his biology with a cocktail of antibiotics and steroids, his life sustained for another moment.

He blinked, or rather, refreshed his optical processors, to confirm this vision before him. A cracked and desiccated fountain lay behind him, its spigots and spouts long-since abandoned, the only hint of it ever containing a liquid of some description being the stains upon its basin. Dried up and left behind, long since past its usefulness.

"Saddicus!" He called out to the uncaring winds, the miniaturized zero-point reactor upon his back blazing to life as he called for his favoured servant-slave, gears grinding as he flexed his gauntlet, his cybernetic eyes adjusting to this new environment as he critically assessed the reaction time of his artificial limbs. "Acceptable," he murmured under his breath, his weight shifting as he took a cautious step forward, hydraulics hissing as the void supported his augmented weight.

Was he dreaming?

No, the cybernetics grafted to his grey matter, paired with his chemical cocktails had long since made rest redundant. Every moment he slept was a moment taken away from him, every blink one step closer to the great sleep, his disposal in the dunes of his homeworld. The sensors within his armoured suit registered none of the interstellar radiation that one would expect, nor did they encounter any of the typical substances that would be used to seal those signals off.

The shroud, or something similar? The Dethakkan people lacked the telepathic capabilities of some of their more ‘enlightened’ neighbours, but their knowledge of the Jump Drive and the rapacious hordes of the Unbidden were proof enough of realities adjacent to their own. Given the words of this ‘Omni’ creature, his abduction to an alternate reality for the sole purpose of the Demiurge’s amusement seemed to be, unfortunately, the new truth to his existence.

Alone in an absurd reality.

"I did not conquer the galaxy for this," Axemerax hissed, their venom gland engorging, paralytic toxins dripping from his jaw as he gnashed his mandibles together. He was Primus of the Alignment, unbidden damn-it. He had bent a planet of sociopaths and worse to his will, and proceeded to do the same to the rest of the galaxy; even the impossible realms outside of reality had been repulsed from his perfect order. Poison dripped onto his breastplate, the mechanisms within pulsing to the beat of his ancient heart. He had brought the galaxy into line with his ambitions, with talons of burning science he had chained the heavens themselves and used them to fuel his worlds-spanning Imperium. The gods themselves had been humbled before him, shackled to his throne and branded with their self-serving scripture. He was Axemerax, Primus of the Dethakkan Alignment, and he would not be a mere plaything of this so-called Omni, he wou-

Tranquilizers were injected into his bloodstream, his thoughts being cut-off mid-sentence as the narcotics quenched the burning rage that had begun to overtake him. He fell to one armoured knee, panting as he allowed the drug to cleanse his thoughts, the frenzied passion that had buoyed him in his youth being resigned to the recesses of his mind, discarded in favour of a measured practicality. Such reckless decisions would do him no good, especially without the resources of The Alignment to support him.

No, he was back to square one. He had seen stars die at his command, and he was reduced to nothing more than the steel upon his back, the diagnostics superimposed on his sight registering the utter lack of most subsystems. Decades of weapons development, and he had nothing more than his claws and fangs to defend himself with.

He placed a single claw to his forehead, massaging his scales while an esoteric mixture of a hiss, rattle, and gurgle escaped his jaws.

He conquered worlds. He could do it again. Rising to his feet once more, he began to stalk off over the horizon, visions of deathrays dancing through his mind, mad, burning science demanding to be made real, to be put to use, to split atoms and shatter molecules.

“Soon,” he salivated.
