  Easy Money? Not So Much.
Posted by: Takanomiya Hijiri - 09-25-2017, 05:20 AM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (7)

Having stepped through the gateway, Hijiri found himself gazing at the most beautiful city he had ever seen; not only was it far grander than anything on Earth, but even his own people's gorgeous lunar cities paled in comparison. In every direction, steel and glass buildings sparkled in the sunlight, as flying cars flew through the skies above, and he could even see an immaculate park off to the side of a nearby street.

“Come on, it's this way.” his stormtrooper guide informed him, waving him forward. The armoured man gave barely a glance at his surroundings, which Hijiri immediately remembered was how he ought to be acting as well; he had almost slipped into tourist mode there for a second. This would likely go better for him if he refrained from gaping at everything he passed; it was doubtful that the most advanced civilisation in the Omniverse would afford much respect to some slack-jawed yokel who behaved like he'd never seen a city before in his life.

As it turned out, there was an EPD Office only a few blocks from the gate, so it took little time to get there. Upon entering they were greeted by a woman who sat at a reception desk. She wore a crisp, grey military uniform and had shoulder-length auburn hair. On the desk before her sat two thin computers and some sort of device which seemed to be projecting a pale blue hologram. As they strode through the doors she glanced up and glared at the pair with the one eye not covered by her fringe.

“What the hell do you want, Dodson?” Hijiri glanced at his guide, who was presumably named 'Dodson', wondering how she seemed able to recognise him despite the fact that his armour bore no identifying marks whatsoever.

“Great news, Michelle, baby, I found a Prime who says he'd just love to join your crew, isn't that great!?” Judging by the way 'Michelle' started grating her teeth and twitching slightly as soon as he began speaking, the ex-Battle Rabbit guessed that her answer to that question was 'no'.

“Tell me, soldier...” she eventually began, after composing herself enough to speak, “Do you remember what happened the last time you 'forgot' to speak to me with the proper respect due to an officer of the Imperial Army?”

“Uh... actually, no, don't have a clue, doll. I remember waking up in a psych ward and hearing that you'd been demoted to little more than a glorified receptionist, and some people may have thrown around the term 'mindrape' – whatever that means – but no, I don't actually remember anything... sounds kinky, though, babe. I'm totally on board if you want seconds.”

The woman had gotten to her feet by this point, and looked just about ready to kill someone. Her nails were digging into the desk's wooden surface, and her knuckles had gone white. Figuring that this might not be the most successful job application ever if it ended in homicide, Hijiri decided that now might well be the time to step in; given how quickly this had escalated, one more comment from Dodson might well lead to a gunfight.

“Maybe it would be best if we just left,” he said, placing a hand on his guide's shoulder and attempting to lightly turn him back the way they'd come, “this officer is clearly busy with her duties and we really shouldn't waste her time.”

“No.” he had barely taken a step before she spoke up. “That brain-dead cretin is more than welcome to get out of my sight, but you should stay, Prime.”

“Aw, come on, cutie, you know you don't really-”

“Sorry.” the stormtrooper's voice was cut off as Hijiri shoved him outside and closed the thick, steel door in his face. He had no idea what the relationship was between these two (or what Dodson imagined their relationship to be, at least) but in the interests of not getting anyone killed, he decided this was probably for the best.

...

“Alright then. Introductions,” he turned to see the officer holding out a hand towards him. Her expression blank and professional, she seemed to have become utterly calm and collected the moment Dodson had left the building, “I'm Michelle Andreas, the officer in charge of this Recruitment Branch of the EPD. Should you decide to join us I will be your main liaison with Imperial command.”

“Pleased to meet you, Officer Andreas,” Hijiri shook her hand as he spoke. Judging by her lack of reaction to his calling her that, it seemed that he had been correct to assume by the Western sound of her names that the family name was actually the latter of the two, “I am Takanomiya Hijiri. With Takanomiya being my surname.”

“Right,” she nodded, apparently not unfamiliar with the idea that different peoples would often have differing grammatical customs. Sitting again, she went on, “I'll just note that down on your record here... now, to begin with you'll be attached to a small squad of stormtroopers and observed to see how effective you are in combat. Criminals should be taken alive if possible, but lethal force is authorised if necessary. As you're going to be the only one in the squad not in uniform, it is highly likely that you will be identified as a Prime and will be a priority target, should conflict break out, so taking stupid risks will get you killed. Understood?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. A lot of Primes like to see themselves as better than Secondaries, so it's not all that unusual for new ones to get themselves killed after getting overconfident and picking a fight they can't win.”

Hijiri tried his best to maintain his confident demeanour, hoping that that wasn't exactly what he was about to do.

“In order to perform this assignment you'll need to choose a Tier to be assigned to. This is Tier One, and the lowest Tier available is Tier Five, since Tiers Six & Seven no longer have routine patrols. The lower you go, the more dangerous it will be. That said, proving your value to the Empire will be much faster in the lower Tiers than it would be if you were to do nothing but patrol peaceful streets up here, understood?”

“Yes, sir.” he responded again, and after a moment's hesitation he made a decision which he was well aware must have been the height of stupidity. Still, he'd need to perform well if he wanted any sort of decent pay, so there was hardly any point wasting time up here. “I'd like to be assigned to Tier Five, sir.”

She sighed, and rolled the one of her eyes which he could see. Apparently, she wasn't too impressed.

“Right, of course, because you're a big, strong Prime who can just come back to life if anything goes wrong, huh? Fine, whatever, just make sure to listen to your sergeant. The last thing we need is to lose a whole squad of stormtroopers because you were too stubborn to back down from a fight and they were too stupid to leave you to die. Got that?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Fine. I've submitted your application now. There's a squad headed down to Tier Five in a few hours. They'll now be coming here to collect you first.”

This place was not Gotham City, and thus Matthew didn't know where everything was. After approaching one of the nearby civilians after he left it behind, he asked. "Which way to the library?"  The citizen pointed him in the right direction, and Matthew thanked the citizen. Checking to make sure he had the batarangs hidden up his sleeves he began to walk through the bustling city. The technology here was astounding. They had Hover Cars, and technology like that was common place. The buildings were even taller than the ones back home in Gotham City. Whatever this place was named, it was certainly impressive. Matthew was not sure it was called but apparently the Storm Trooper had told him it was called "Coruscant."  However, the name did not ring any bells of any variety.

Matthew looked around, and sighed. Wishing that he had a map of the area,  he attempted to create one with Omnilium. Yet the map was completely blank. What the slag? Why was the map blank? Not knowing the answer, or the directions to the library he started wandering aimlessly through the world of Coruscant. Eventually he made his way to the library, but by the time he was there, he was sweating and panting.

"Okay. I'm out of shape."

Getting his body back into shape for fighting crime was definitely in order. Entering the library through the sliding doors, he'd start to look through the shelves and wander aimlessly, not expecting he was about to run into a creature from myth. Of course with whose son he was, as his DNA was not that of Mary Mcginnis, or Warren Mcginnis. Really, his parents were Bruce Wayne, and Diana Prince. As such he was not fully "human" as it were. His physical abilities were well above what a human normally had. What he needed to do was a lot of research.

Grabbing some of the books on Coruscant, including an Atlas and one that had maps of Coruscant he put them down on a table.

"Let's see here.  So far I've got Maps of Coruscant,  the Abridged Edition,  How to make explosives for dummies,  How to prepare poisons for dummies,  Guerrilla Warfare Tactics for dummies,  Amateur's Guide to Free Running,  Pressure Point Guide for Dummies,  and finally, a list of all the gangs in the city. This city is just as bad as Gotham."

If the city was as bad as Gotham City,  Matthew had his work cut out for him. Picking up the book on the map of Coruscant he started to make a mental map of where he was on Coruscant. This library was going to be a place he'd need to frequent.

  Matthew's Arrival
Posted by: Jack Darby - 09-24-2017, 08:31 PM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (2)

When the black void faded and he had been thrust into a world of almost blinding white, Matthew squinted, and tried to focus, to clear his head of his dizziness caused by the sudden change. Noticing he was in a fountain and his clothing was missing, Matthew frowned. Just why was he naked? The individual who had kidnapped him called “Omni”  had said that Omnilium could be used to create whatever he desired. Clothing was the first item, because he needed an outfit for himself so as to prevent him from making anyone disgusted with him. Taking out the rainbow colored orb that had been given to him by Omni, he concentrated and a miniscule mote of light left the orb, smacking into his body at high speeds.

When the mote of light smacked into his body,  Matthew was clad in a new outfit. The outfit was a black leather one similar to the one worn by Jason Todd. While it was not the costume he preferred, Matthew supposed it was going to have to do unfortunately. After all he was not someone who was skilled at making costumes. Lacking the resources of Cadmus in this place as likely they didn’t exist, Matthew knew he was going to have to do something he hadn’t done before. Improvisation was not his strong suit, but he was going to have to do so. Yet, it couldn’t hurt to check. Creating a communication device out of Omnilium he attempted to connect to the frequencies of Cadmus. His first attempt got himself nothing but static. The second attempt also got him nothing from it. Frowning, he’d look at the device. Had he done something wrong? Did Cadmus still exist around here?

The comm signal had not gone through, and thus had not allowed him to reach the Cadmus agents that he wanted to talk to. Had Omni been right, about this place being different from anything that he had ever known? Apparently so…

If Cadmus was not around,  Matthew was going to be forced to improvise. Checking once more with the communicator he had, Matthew sighed, and said.  "Looks like I'm on my own."

The substance known as Omnilium was probably some sort of advanced nanotechnology, given what it was capable of. At least in the opinion of Matthew. Walking slowly away from the fountain, he checked to see if anyone was around that he could get information on this place from. There was a lot he had to learn about his new location.

  Matt Mcginnis (Switching Rep)
Posted by: Jack Darby - 09-24-2017, 07:56 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (1)

Starting OM:7,312.66  OM

Character name:  Matthew Mcginnis

Character source:  Batman Beyond, with my own personal twist.

Character history:   While his brother went out, and saved the day daily as Batman, Matthew was doing some different. Under the watchful eye of Amanda Waller he was taught a lot of things, such as mastery of a variety of CQC tactics. He was also taught how to think strategically, and be a master with most forms of firearms, explosives, and tools like shuriken and boomerangs. These skills were ones that she imparted to him while Terry went out at night, Matthew was being educated in them by governmental employees, and various criminals, such as Lady Shiva, Deathstroke the Terminator, and he was even taught acrobatics by Harley Quinn.

As his skills grew, Matthew asked Amanda and she agreed when Terry got caught in a wreck on his bike. Going out as Composite Man, he policed Gotham until Terry got better. However, Matt didn’t want to give up the costume, or the equipment they’d provided. On one of his missions to beat down a copy-cat of the Red Hood, Matthew ended up brought to the Omniverse.

Physical Description:

Stats:
ATK: 3
DEF:2
SPD:2
TEC:3

Starting Proficiencies:

Physical Strength (1000)
Ranged Proficiency (1000)

Starting Powers:
Master Acrobat (400)
Super Jumping (Master, 800)
Foresight (1500 OM)

Starting Moves:

Hammers of Justice (Fluff Move):  Hammers of Justice is a move that covers any technique that requires hand to hand involving his fists, or bare hands against his opponents.  Hammers of Justice is something that he has learned how to do from his training.

Knife of Justice (300 OM, Physical Strength)

A Kris Knife that is a replica similar to that of Jason Todd. This was a Replica created by Amanda Waller for his own use. The knife has a 15 inch blade. The blade is jagged and can be used by Matthew to stab his opponents, or to slash them. It's kept in a sheath on his waist. The Kris Knife can clash with Lightsabers, or similar weapons, so long as they are not stronger than this. (Higher ATK than his.)

[Image: 10431798_580006158784006_533959256_n.jpg...NDEyMDg0.2]

Batarang (Ranged Proficiency,  300.):

A batarang that was one of the older ones used by Bruce, that was retrieved by Amanda Waller. This is moderately draining on his stamina, and takes him about 5 seconds to summon to his hands. It's moderately damaging. It cannot home, or change direction. Yet when it is done being used, it almost always returns to his hand, so he can put it away for his own use later. Requires the use of one hand. This will hurt like someone was hit with a baseball bat when it smacks someone upside the head.  6 inches long, 3 inches wide, and a quarter inch thick are the dimensions of the batarangs used by Matt. They can be collapsed should he need to conceal them. They're designed just like the one shown in the picture.

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct. Yes.

  An Unpleasant Entry
Posted by: Takanomiya Hijiri - 09-22-2017, 03:37 PM - Forum: The Nexus - Replies (2)

Hijiri couldn't help but grin. Somewhere at the back of his mind, a small part of him was taking note of this, and was horribly embarrassed by it. His usual, cool, cold demeanour had been cast aside like it was nothing...

Not that that should have been much of a surprise, really. After Kaguya's death, they had all been distraught, himself in particular... frankly, Hijiri hadn't been sure how much longer he could stand to live with the pain. Loathe as he was to admit it, the Young Master had been the one person who mattered most to him, and knowing that he himself had been directly responsible for what had befallen the boy...

It was not a particularly pleasant feeling, to be honest. With the Ogres gone now, the Earth was no longer in such dire need of supervision, which meant that his duty no longer had to come before everything else... he had actually begun contemplating suicide, he was that far gone.

And then Kaguya returned. To call it a 'happy occasion' might have been something of an understatement, to say the least, and though he knew the others likely wouldn't let him forget his lack of composure any time soon, he was willing, for the time being, to just enjoy the moment.

They were all back together, everyone was safe and sound, and with their old enemy vanquished once and for all, it seemed like they might actually stay that way. It was hard not to be optimistic at a time like this, even for him.

And then they were gone.

One moment the others had been right beside him – they were holding hands, even, like a bunch of little kids – and the next, he was alone, his fingers closing on air, standing on nothing, in the midst of a pitch-black void...

Or, then again, perhaps he was not entirely alone.

Quote:“My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

The speaker was a white silhouette, the only detail of which he could make out was that wide, grinning maw. Unable to control his own body, Hijiri was unable to stop himself from reaching out as the figure handed him some sort of shimmering, rainbow-coloured orb.

Quote:“This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.

The strange object vanished almost as soon as he touched it; seemingly being absorbed into his body somehow.

Quote:“You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

“That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

No sooner had the being – 'Omni' was the moniker it had claimed – ceased speaking than it and the darkness around it began to fade, until the area before him was an entirely white void, this time around.

Still confused, despite the strange being's brief explanation – and perhaps even in denial, for who would actually want to believe that there truly existed a creature of such power that it could arbitrarily tear them away not only from their loved ones, but from their entire reality, on the merest of whims? – Hijiri turned, looking all around, desperately hoping for some sign that this alabaster wasteland did not actually go on forever.

And he got one. Then immediately wished he hadn't.

The object that stood before him was a beautifully carved fountain; it would have made any work of art on Earth or on the Moon seem crude and ugly by comparison. The scene atop the fountain was that of a beautiful woman holding a glass aloft as her waiter poured clear, fresh water from a wine bottle into it, endlessly. Over the rim of the glass the liquid spilled, to fill the sparkling pool which surrounded the pedestal upon which the statues stood.

It would have appeared almost divine, such was its perfection, such was the level of detail which had gone into the making of it, were it not for the masks the pair wore. These were not the same grey stone as the rest of the fountain, but pure white, each with a gemstone above their narrow eyes, a wicked grin, and jet black horns. Ogre masks.

And as if that alone wasn't an obvious enough clue as to Omni's intentions towards him, both statues faced him directly, looking down upon him as they smirked. Oh yes, there was no doubt at all in his mind that this would-be deity had brought him here for little more than the privilege of watching him suffer and die... and then, if what it had said was true, to watch him be reborn, only to die again, and again, and again, and again, until at last it tired of the spectacle and allowed him to pass on for good.

Well.

Shit.
