Tale of a Pup: Showbiz is for the Dogs
Posted by: Isabelle - 11-17-2017, 04:53 PM - Forum: The Endless Dunes - Replies (2)

Quote:Continued from Ambrosia Crossing: New Leaf

It was a hot day in the village. The main office air conditioner was on the fritz and the repair guy was a sloth so it was a grueling. The mayor mercifully requested Wisp to take Isabelle’s place in the town hall so she had the day off.

Izzy wound up wearing a pink tank top, the only tank she had in her wardrobe, and she wore a pair of hot pants that read “Bad Dog” on the bum that the mayor got her as a joke last month. She usually avoided scanty clothing like this, but with the heat, she had to choose the lesser of the two evils. Plus anyways, she didn’t think anyone could see her from the campgrounds.

She spent much of the day lounging around her trailer catching up on a pile of books she always intended to read. She only ever came out to cook meals in the firepit.

But late in the afternoon, as she was catching up on the book “Puppy Love in the Streets,” she heard a rapping on the door.

She wasn’t sure who would be visiting Izzy outside of town like this. She wasn’t sure if she could even answer the door considering what she was wearing.

“Um...” She immediately regretted calling out, she hadn’t considered the option of pretending to not be home. Well, it was too late now. “Who is it?”

“It’s me.” Said a deep handsome voice from beyond the door.

The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. She didn’t even anticipate he’d come to visit. Considering half the outfit was his fault, it might be safe if he saw her like this. Maybe it’d be a conversation piece? Maybe she could play it off as a joke?

Finally committing to her decision, she put away her book and clamored to the door, opening it for her beloved boss.

And there he stood, his blonde hair combed over to hover over his forehead. His beautiful blue eyes, despite seeing them so many times over the past months, still made Izzy’s knees a little shaky. He wore a vest jacket over a dress shirt. Go figure, even in a hot day the mayor didn’t neglect on being fashionable.

“Can I come in?” He asked politely.

Isabelle found her tongue motionless, frozen in place at the presence of the mayor. She was forced to nod her head before making way from him.
The mayor took off the vest jacket into a tank top they had underneath. The mayor tied their hair into a bun and sat down next to Isabelle on the bed. Izzy was beet red at this point. Suddenly, the mayor turned towards her and looked her in the eyes with those stunning brown eyes of her’s

“Miss Mayor!” Izzy cried out in surprise, but she quickly found her lips no longer available to talk, occupied by the mayor’s supple, lipstick covered lips.

Part way through the smooch, the two topple over and onto the bed. As they pulled away, izzy looked deep into her green eyes and smiled. The two cuddled under the roof the trailer, blissfully unaware of the world outside.

Izzy woke up cuddling an unconscious Rosie. She wanted to pretend for a second that the cat was her beloved mayor, but she knew for a fact her mayor lacked dark blue skin. Then again, considering how inconsistent her dreams were, she wouldn’t be shocked if the next one had a mayor with green scales and wings.

This latest dream couldn’t even decide on what the mayor looked like, heck it couldn’t even settle on a gender. It was like her subconscious was mocking the futility of her search. For all she knew, these aren’t even memories. Could she be making them all up? Maybe she never had a relationship with a mayor, were these all fantasies she had before the Omniverse? But that doesn’t make sense! Why would her fantasies be unable to decide on a basic appearance?

She could remember hundreds, no thousands of kisses with the mayor, each smooch so vivid she could practically feel the lips pressed against her’s, but she can’t remember a single face.

She released her grasp on her cat companion so she could roll on her back when her right foot landed in water. The splash caused Izzy to jump as she struggled to get back on her feet, only for her paws to meet resistance from loose sand.

After a minute or so of fumbling about, she settled with sitting up and scanning around to get her bearings, though she wasn’t sure if that helped considering she was immediately greeted with endless landscapes of sand.

“Th-the desert?” She cried out in surprise.

She had never been in a landscape like this before, and even then she never really expect it to be exactly like the stereotypes. She always thought the common media depiction of the desert was just a thing, people wouldn’t really live in places like that if it was as desolate as every movie ever depicts it. But seeing it up close, she has some really strong lines of questions for camels and lizards.

But then she remembered the water her foot fell into earlier, and it was then she realized she wasn’t just in the desert. Palm trees overhead gave them shade, small sprouts of grass had taken refuge near their bodies, and the water was just a simple pool in the middle of the sand.

And Oasis, they landed in an Oasis.

Immediately after, she turned to shake her friend violently.

‘Rosie!’ She called out.

“But mom, I don’t want to use the litterbox, I want to use the toilet!” cried out her friend in protest, pawing as the sand floor.

“Wake up!” Yelled Isabelle

Rosie’s eyes finally opened, slowly as they peered up on Izzy.

“Oh, It’s just you Izzy.” Rosie said dreamily. ‘I think I was just dreaming about my childhood or somethin-’

She caught a glimpse of the palm leaf above and immediately shot up to a sitting position. Confused and disoriented, Rosie looked around at the endless expanse of desert.

“I think you accidentally touched one of my teleportation books. I think we’re in another verse entirely! But it’s okay. I’m sure i can find a way back on my pho-”

Rose slapped her paw onto the sides of her head and started screaming bloody murder.

“Rosie, calm down! We’ll make it out of this!”

But the feline continued to wail, added with tears and flailing about on the ground. Isabelle, not sure what to do, pulled out her phone and hurriedly did research.

Anyone here play DC Universe Online? Moon Knight, Centurion, and I have been playing some on PS4. We recreated our OV characters, (but I switched Dick for a new character because his powers didn't work), and have gotten up to around level 10. So anyone interested in playing with us? (Or just general discussion of the game and stuff.)

  The Scoundrel Arrives
Posted by: Aello - 11-17-2017, 02:41 PM - Forum: The Nexus - No Replies

Aello had slept with her door open, again. This meant that she was either stoned out of her mind or having nightmares. More than likely it was a combination of both. Visili sighed as he knocked on the wall outside her room before inviting himself in. Empty pill bottles sat scattered across her floor like orange landmines. A tornado had gone through here recently and her name was Aello. The drawers to her dresser lay thrown across the room and empty. A layer of clothing covered her floor and hung itself from every available perch. The girl herself was half-naked and lying on her bed in a puddle of cold sweat.

“Come on Aello, time to wake up darling we’ve got work to do today,” Visili said, reaching out and shaking her bare leg.

“Eh, give me five more minutes,” Aello said and rolled onto her side.

She curled up into the fetal position and clutched at her stomach. She was wearing a grey sleeveless shirt and black underwear. Although it wasn’t very cold she shuddered and pulled her ball even tighter. Her high had worn off and she was out of drugs. In her panic to dope herself up she had torn through her room, trying to find any narcotic to dull the nightmares. Visili shook his head and sat on the edge of her bed, with a careful touch he rubbed her shoulder. He grabbed the blanket at the foot of her bed and pulled it up over her.

“Take your time,” he said, “I’ll go make us some breakfast and when you’re ready come out and eat.”

“Kay.” She responded, pulling the covers over her head.

She hated this. She hated her brain and she hated the drugs that she craved, but most of all she hated making Visili worry. He left the room and she spent a few more minutes acclimating to painful sobriety. There was a knot in her gut, right below her sternum. It felt like a gremlin was in her stomach, pulling her muscles tight and scratching at her lungs.

“Fuck,” she whispered and forced her body to sit up.

More a test of will than a physical challenge, she stood and stretched. The gremlin was still there, but at least she was up and moving. Picking up a set of clean clothes from the ground she shut her door and stepped into the shower. She stripped naked and took a long and hot shower, stepping out once the bathroom had been swallowed by a cloud of steam. Mornings to the poor girl were all about momentum. If she paused in her routine, even for a moment, it was very likely that she’d end up doing nothing for the rest of the day.

Aello wiped the thin film of steam from her mirror and appraised herself. The scars were still there as was her prosthetic arm. She frowned. Her right eye was slightly swollen and a ring of purple surrounded it. It was tender to the touch and blinking made it sting. Last night was clouded in a haze, but she could remember going out to the bar after Visili had fell asleep. She looked at her knuckles and sighed. Dried blood stained her prosthetic and the knuckles on her real arm were puffy and swollen. Something had gone done, but just what had she done? Her mind jumped through hoops trying to piece together the previous night, but memories came at her like trees in a fog -- distant and scattered. Well, she figured, if it was important it’d come back and bite her in the ass eventually.

Visili was working in the kitchen when Aello stepped into the living room. She sniffed the air and with a raised eyebrow wandered over to the stovetop. Eggs, honest to God, Visili was cooking eggs, a rare treat on the space station that would’ve costed him a pretty penny.

“Holy shit,” she said, “what’s the occasion?”

“No occasion” Visili answered, “just figured it’d be nice for a change.”

Aello’s eyes narrowed, but she decided to let it go. After all curiosity did kill the cat, and she had no interest in fucking up a good thing by being nosy.

“Damn, that’s a pretty good shiner you’ve got there,” Visili said, pausing a moment to get a good look at her face, “who did you fuck up?”

“Oh you know, just some creep trying to have his way with me,” she lied.

“Good for you,” Visili said before chuckling, “you’d think they’d learn their lesson, you’re probably the toughest chick on this space station.”

“Oh you know how they are, only thinking with their dicks,” she said and turned away. Something felt a bit off about the whole situation. Eggs for breakfast and blood in her sink. Something bad had happened.

Breakfast came and went. The two ate their fill of eggs, toast, and orange juice - another space station delicacy. Aello sat still, her eyes half closed. She was riding that pleasant wave of sleepiness known as a “food coma”.

Visili sat across from her and with a saccharine smile asked, “did you have a good breakfast?”

Aello raised an eyebrow, she knew something like this was coming.

With a bit of hesitation she answered, “yeah, it was alright.”

“Good! Cause I need your help,” Visili said.

“Always something ain’t it?” she said with a sigh.

“Oh don’t be like that,” Visili said, “anyways we need to find a ship that’ll take us to Eckert.”

“For what?”

“Got a message the other night, me mom’s real sick” he said before putting on a high pitched voice, “she says ‘if I don’t get to see my baby boy’s future wife before I croak I’ll be rolling in my grave’.”

Aello glanced away. She couldn’t remember her parents. Those nebulous years were nothing more than ghosts. Hell she couldn’t even remember her real name.

“Wait,” she said, pushing the thoughts from her head, “future wife? We aren’t even dating Visili.”

While it was true that they had fooled around on more than one occasion, a stable romantic relationship was not something that either wished for.

“Well once she gets an idea into her head there’s no stopping her,” he said.

Visili stood up and threw on his coat, and after a quick double check to make sure he had his essentials he put his hand on the door leading outside. Aello sighed and followed. Of course she’d help him, after all that’s what they did - help each other.

However she never got the chance to help him. As she stepped through the doorway her vision turned dark, like someone had killed all the lights. She tried to call for help, but her mouth has frozen, in fact her entire body refused to move. She was helpless.

Quote: “My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.”

Aello became aware of an entity, seemingly made from pure white light. She wasn’t sure how she had missed him, but his voice drilled into her head. She wanted to scream. She wanted to thrash. She wanted out. She wanted Visili. But all that she could do, was wait and listen. The being reached across the yawning chasm and held out an orb seemingly made from rainbows.

Quote:“This is Omnilium. It’s what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most. You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn. That’s all you need to know right now. You’ll figure out the rest soon enough. I’ll be watching … and waiting.”

And with that her vision was flooded with a world of ivory. Her body was once again free to move and she found her heart going a thousand miles an hour. A fountain bubbled behind her and figures were present on the horizon of this white landscape. Visili was gone, and the Helios was nowhere to be found.

“What in the hell?” she asked outloud.

So I've been toying with the idea of hosting a Colosseum-style tournament through The Ashen Blades. It would take place in The Ashen Steppes at a suitably badass location, I was thinking a volcano, with the finals taking place at the summit. It would probably be a "to the death" affair so the losers are either slain by the winners or executed afterwards, more than likely by kicking them into a lava pit or something.

For rewards I was thinking everyone chips in a entry fee and the Blades will provide a flat amount. (initial thoughts are 50-100 OM entry and the Blades chip in a flat 500)

Top three get a percentage of the pot. But I'm open to ideas for rewards and other shenanigans.

I was just curious if anyone would be interested in something like this?

This'll be Strazio's third character.

CHARACTER NAME: Aello

CHARACTER SOURCE: Originale

CHARACTER HISTORY:
[Image: cyberroom_nautical_gif_by_moofart_moof-daurm51.gif]

Born to a wealthy family on the planet Melkor, the crown jewel of the Saccadian Empire, Amelia proved to be a gifted child at a very young age. Her parents, being the affluent socialites that they were, enrolled her in the most prestigious schooling money could buy, as well as hiring legions of personal tutors. The girl was inherently gifted and the deluge of opportunity thrown at her only compounded her success. As Amelia entered her early teens it seemed the world was opened before her and whatever path she chose would lead her to a prosperous and fulfilling life. However as her life seemed destined for political and scientific greatness fate seemed to spin a different web.

Two-hundred and seventy-four years before Amelia’s birth a strange comet passed by several planets in the Saccadian system, including Melkor. This comet, known colloquially as “Jule’s Star”, bathed whatever planet it passed in an exotic energy. Not much is known about the machinations behind said energy, but it seemed to kickstart a change in human evolution. Less than one percent of the population developed psionic capabilities, some more pronounced than others. These psionic traits did not seem to be genetic and were instead randomly expressed in any human born on one of these planets. Even centuries after the passing of Jule’s Star psychic abilities would manifest themselves in children anywhere from the age of three to twenty. Amelia happened to be one of these star-touched kids.

To the Saccadians psychics are held in the highest regard, lauded as champions of the empire. Before Jule’s Star had blessed the Saccadian system they were on the backfoot of a particularly vicious war that threatened to wipe them from existence. It was thanks to these gifted individuals that they were able to fight back and establish their modern empire. Any child that displayed even the slightest hint of psychic prowess was immediately forfeited to the military and enrolled into the several conditioning programs they had available. While that may seem like a dystopian nightmare, the reality of it was that there was no higher honor for the family than to produce such gifted offspring. Overnight Amelia’s family went from being well-off aristocrats to celebrities, and Amelia herself was overjoyed to serve her country in such a unique and impactful way.

Amelia’s grip on her newfound powers was strong and her education gave her a unique advantage over her peers. It was due to this consistent excellence that she was transferred to an experimental branch of the psionic programs known as EXODUS. This program aimed to elevate a mentalist’s already impressive powers by integrating a highly advanced AI into their body allowing them to interface directly with a state-of-the-art mecha. Amelia underwent intense physical and mental conditioning as well as a series of surgeries to install biomechanical implants to augment her body. Once she was considered prepared the AI was installed into her chest and linked to her nervous system.

High-level AI tend to develop personalities and are for almost all intents and purposes considered sentient and autonomous beings. Her particular AI, known as Kilroy, was an abusive being, demanding nothing but absolute perfection from her. Day in and day out Kilroy whittled away Amelia’s confidence berating her for every perceived failure and providing little in the way of positive reinforcement. Having no other recourse than to grin and bear it Amelia continued her training and strived for perfection. However it was during a particularly strenuous training session that her psyche faltered and she suffered a catastrophic failure. This catastrophe resulted in her left arm getting shredded and her mecha being totalled. As she lay trapped beneath several hundred tons of metal Kilroy laid into her, declaring that he would rather be dead than trapped within her body.

Amelia’s world began to crumble around her. With Kilroy’s refusal and her own failure looming over her head she was unable to fully grasp her psychic potential again. Her body was ravaged from the incident and the higher ups within EXODUS had neither the time nor money to invest in what they viewed as a lost cause. She was told that she would be discharged and returned to her family after Kilroy was removed from her body. The disgruntled AI was extracted from her chest through a surgery that would leave her physically scarred for the rest of her life. However rather than being returned to her family Amelia awoke to find herself aboard a space station in an unknown section of space.

As the girl came to learn she had been declared dead and transferred to a RONIN black site for experimentation. Psychics were a rare breed and little was truly understood about them. RONIN, despite being largely billed as a weapons-grade prosthetics manufacturer, had a vested interest in psionic research and, unbeknownst to the general public, would often purchase psionic individuals from the Saccadian Empire in exchange for various armaments. Subjected to constant and often agonizing experimentation Amelia suffered for many years. She eventually underwent an experimental type of brain surgery designed to nullify her psionic capabilities. The surgery was a success to the extent that her powers became nearly impossible for her to properly manifest and control, however it also had the nasty side effect of wiping away most of her memory.

Having outlived her usefulness she was discarded at Helios, a city-sized space station at the fringes of space. Her first few days aboard Helios were hell and she wandered around like a zombie, unsure of even her name. Were it not for the kindness of a stranger she surely would have died. Visili, a long time resident of Helios, took pity on her and took her under his wing. He gave her the name Aello, which meant whirlwind in his native language, and set out to teach her the ways of Helosian life. Helios was a bastion for criminals and pariahs alike, and so Aello learned the ways of criminals and thieves.

Despite her newfound friendship Aello was still haunted by her past. Traumatic memories came crawling back in the form of night terrors. Nothing she remembered stayed for long, as RONIN’s implants regularly purged her memories, erasing anything that took place before her time on Helios. Her body, having been ravaged by countless surgeries and procedures, was subject to frequent states of agony. Suffering from both mental and physical anguish Aello developed a nasty addiction to whatever drugs and booze she could get a hold of. Visili stayed with her and did his best to look out for her, as he said their bond was stronger than blood. Life on Helios continued as normal and it was on no special day that she was taken by Omni.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Standing at a modest 5’ 6” Aello is the kind of girl that radiates danger. Sporting a fohawk and a rough and tumble demeanor she all but embodies a punk aesthetic. Arguably her most striking feature is her absent left arm, which has been replaced by a high-grade cyberkinetic prosthetic. Pockmarks and heavy scoring cover her metal limb, revealing the raw silver underneath the anodized black paint. The letters R.O.N.I.N. are engraved across the bicep of the arm and it appears that multiple attempts to scratch them out have been made. Beyond her arm other, more subtle, hints of biomechanical enhancements are present. Metal rivets run parallel to her spine and a connection port is affixed to the back of her skull. A circular metal plate, about two inches in diameter, is embedded into the top of her breast bone

STATS:
ATK: 3 - Ruthless in combat and armed with a robotic arm, Aello hits hard.
DEF: 2 - No stranger to pain, this girl is tough as nails and able to roll with the punches.
SPD: 2 - Being in prime physical shape helps he move and react faster than the average human.
TEC: 3 - Having lived a life in the military Aello’s hands still remember their way around a gun.

STARTING PROFICIENCIES (2000):

Physical Strength (1000)
Ranged Proficiency (1000)

STARTING POWERS: (1200)

Stealth (1200)

STARTING MOVES: (900)

R.O.N.I.N. Mk. IV Cyberkinetic Arm (300) Requires Physical Strength
Once considered the pinnacle of cyberkinetic prosthetics, the Ronin Mk. IV was designed with longevity in mind. Aello’s particular model has been stripped of nearly all auxiliary features, leaving behind a bare bones piece of equipment. The access bolts have been welded in place, making internal maintenance damn near impossible as taking it apart would require damaging a good portion of the casing. As such the limb has become worn and slightly sluggish over the years. The limb allows Aello to throw some devastating punches and block attacks that would cripple her organic arm, however due to the sheer weight and age of the arm it moves slower and is slightly more tiring to use than its fleshy counterpart. Additionally a strong enough strike can sunder the limb, especially if the strike is directed at the joints.
Kroztech 25mm Javelin Pistol (600) Requires Ranged Proficiency
The Kroztech Javelin embodies an elegant aesthetic that exudes equal parts sophistication and lethality. Capable of firing six gauss bolts up to a maximum range of about 50 meters in quick succession. These energy lances break apart atomic bonds, literally tearing targets apart molecule by molecule. Its original incarnation would be able to punch 25mm diameter holes in all but the most hardened of targets, however the Omniverse has rendered this weapon but a shell of its former glory. These bolts are largely mitigated by shields and only leave painful surface burns on bare flesh. The projectiles travel quickly, reaching their target almost instantaneously. Once all six bolts are fired the user must eject the expended energy cell and replace it to begin firing again, a process which takes about five seconds.

Alternatively the wielder can choose to overload the energy cell and fire all remaining shots as one bolt. This overheats the safety features built into the gun disabling it for 10 seconds for every bolt expended this way. Once the safety features are disengaged the wielder must spend three to five seconds reloading the energy cell.
Spent OM (4100)

I confirm that I have read and agreed to the Rules of Conduct.

As a side not, me and Summer are thinking of doing "The Ashen Walk", so we might jump to a new thread after a few rounds. Dunno if Morene is coming with if we do go, but she's welcome to.

Orange-red sunlight glared through the crack in the curtains, lapping at the peak of the tower. Much of the land below was left in shadow by the craggy rocks, illuminated by streams of lava, yet still left shady by the thick layers of ash. Dust was scattered through the air of the room, guiding the rays down towards the head of the bed.

Prior, the room had remained stagnant, from dusk till dawn. Faint breaths from Summer caused his chest to rise and fall as he slept, and a certain black haired mage had fallen forwards from her chair, head and hands pressed against his ribs. She snored gently, subconsciously nuzzling her face deeper with every small shiver.

As they'd slept, the faint glow dark purple rippled from the wounds on Ebony's chest as the Omnilium sewed them shut, eventually stopping not long before the sunrise. Summer's injuries stitched themselves up more naturally, although one hand still remained as a stump. There had been few noises throughout the castle, and they'd both slept well despite their respective positions.

Yet, now, with the sun's distorted rays focused towards Summer's face, it was only a matter of time before the light poked through his eyelids. First, it was a sniff - his nose scrunched, mouth still agape. Then his eyelashes fluttered, blinking the dust away. A few seconds later, his head jerked up causing his chest to rise slightly. Ebony's head was brought up with it and, if not for her grip, would have been pushed off. She mumbled, fists reactively clenching tighter onto his shirt and keeping herself steady as he fell back once again.

He shuffled slightly, experimentally trying to wake the mage, but all attempts yielded nought beside more weak groans and protests.

"Enjoying your nap?" Raising an eyebrow, he spoke. It wasn't loud, but over the comparative silence, it seemed otherwise.

Reaching out with his good hand, he ruffled her hair. Unlike usual, there was so little consistency that the action actually added more order to the style.

She mumbled, turning to face the oppressor while pressing her ear downwards.

Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.

The steady beating of his heart filled her eardrums. Reluctantly, she opened her eyes, blinking rapidly. "Huuuh..."

Her view was still blocked by her splayed arms, but she felt his hand continuing to move, steadily playing with her hair.

She reached up, grabbing his wrist quizzically and moving his arm away. Slowly, she pushed herself upright, still gripping his arm and not really comprehending the situation. Ebony was not a morning person, but neither was she a night owl.

"W-w-whaa..." Her voice trailed off; her eyes finally met Summer's. Subconsciously, her other hand played with his fingers, linking hers through the gaps between them. Given that it was two hands against one, he made no physical effort to reclaim it.

Swiftly, her neck jerked down, flicking her hair in front of her face and hiding the growing tinge of red. "Y-you looked hurt. I w-wanted to check that you were okay." And because she found his silly hair and stupid face amusing, but that was beside the point.

Summer sat up, and she pulled the stolen arm closer. "It takes a lot more than that to kill me! But... thanks for your concern."

"Y-you're my f-friend. It's what friends do!" Shaking hair to the side of her face, Ebony looked up, a faint blush visible on her pale cheeks. She looked bare without her cloak; and to some, the plain black top might have looked more like pyjamas than proper clothing.

"Right... friends." He muttered, experimentally clenching his hand. Smooth fingers gripped back, while others drifted around his wrist. "Can I have that back please, I've only got one." He raised his stump for emphasis, forcing a smile.

"O-oh. S-sorry. I didn't m-mean to-" Despite the stuttering, Ebony made no attempt to release the limb, being more focused on trying to apologise.

"Nevermind." He pointed the stump towards Ebony's head, but it fell short by a small distance. Yet, almost instantly, a new hand grew out of the damaged arm, landing right on top of her head.

"H-how?"

Summer didn't try to answer, instead offering the biggest, smuggest, grin Ebony had ever seen.

Suddenly, out from nowhere, one of the pillows found itself covering the man's smile. "I was w-worried about you." Sticking out her lower lip, Ebony pouted.

He pulled the pillow off, dropping it to the side of the bed, only to find it instantly replaced with another. He laughed, plying that one off as well, but it was shortly substituted for two more. "...where are you finding all of these?"

Ebony tugged his arm, dragging him out of the pile while he shifted his legs off the bed. Summer rose to his feet, awkwardly shuffling between the two. "I'm g-glad you're okay though," she mumbled, hugging his arm to pull herself upright.

"I'm happy you're okay too."

She yawned, releasing him and walking independently towards the door, magic already starting to open it. She'd already started to work on her hair telekinetically as well, smoothing out the knots and letting it curl down her back.

"I was thinking about getting you- about meeting Omni. We could check the library, there might be some information there." Ebony wasn't the best at playing this game yet, but she thought that comment came from Sonny. After pondering that for a moment, she perked up.

"Really? Where is it?"

"I dunno. This place can't be that big, we'll find it eventually."

"L-let's get started then!" Her voice jumped, cracking with excitement. Although the cold rocky flooring of the hallway quickly evoked a chill in her feet - the thin fabric of her socks did little to buffer it. She shuddered, hopping back, landing on the tips of her toes, and falling into Summer; he caught her effortlessly. "It's c-cold." Summer was cold as well, but not like the ground. The hallway might as well have been made of ice.

He chuckled. "Go get your clothes, kiddo. Then we'll be off to the library."

"I'm not a kid. I'm-"

"Almost nineteen. I know. How close are you, anyway? Not that it really matters much here."

Ebony paused. Back home, they'd always considered her birthday to be just after midnight, and it was dawn here, but more than six hours had definitely passed. Maybe one and a bit days. "T-ten days. What about you?"

"Iunno."

Ebony spun around, placing both palms on his chest. "How could you not know! You get presents and eat cake!"

"I guess I never really bothered with it, so I kinda forgot."

"Oh." She was about to open her mouth to reply further when an idea came to mind. Gradually, the corners of her mouth perked up - she hid the expression behind her hair.

"So... are we going to go now?" Summer idly prodded, trying to guide Ebony out of the door.

"But it's c-cold." She made a display of mock shivering. "C-c-carry me." The room was enclosed and had a wooden floor, so it was relatively warm. The hallway, however, had a stone floor and was left open to breezes. The ground of the Steppes might have been hot, but that heat didn't travel to the higher levels of the castle, especially at night.

"I... sure." The storm incarnate shook his head before presenting his back, miffed. "Hop on."

Tentatively, Ebony climbed up onto his cool back - yet a few moments after he walked into the hall, it's temperature dropped drastically. She shuddered, trying to move away and touch him as little as she could while still avoiding the floor, but with his arms holding her legs she made. "T-t-t-t... T-that's m-mean."

Luckily, Summer's body shortly returned to normal - well, normal for him. Carefully, he let Ebony down in her room, choosing to wait outside. He wasn't left alone for long - after a short collection of jangling sounds, clicking, and a quiet thump, she emerged, donned in her full attire. The grime from before was gone, yet some tears remained.

"Well then, let's get a move on. I trust I won't have to carry you again?"

Ebony glared, lower lip sticking out slightly. With barely any thought, she wrapped her magic around Summer, picked him up, and dragged him along beside her as he idly floated in the air.
