Back to the Desert
Posted by: Dell Conagher - 05-30-2016, 10:53 PM - Forum: The Endless Dunes - Replies (6)

Dell and company exited the dusty portal, the heat wafting over them in a wall of blazing fury. The horses seemed unperturbed, but the flying John in particular was buffeted by the rush of heated air.

"Welcome to the hottest place in the Omniverse, partners, aside from the burning Underverse itself that is..." Dell muttered, pulling his hat down.

While Dell and Dave had their eyes shielded from the glare, John and Tairus were not as lucky and were nearly blinded by the drastic change in lighting. The armored knight in particular felt much more immediate discomfort as his golden armor began to heat in the direct sunlight, and the sand was already beginning to seep into the cracks in his platemail.

"Well, we have two choices. We can either follow this road-" Dell motioned to the road that lead off into the dusty plains "-which would take us to the Town with No Name. I did some research and figured out that I passed it on my last trip here, and ended up going in a huge circle."

Dell pointed to another road, leading towards a faintly visible settlement. "That's Carrefore, an oasis town with Empire presence. Thats about all I could find." He said, crossing his arms.

"So, what'll it be? Personally I'd be more interested in heading towards the Town with No Name, as it seems to be more of a magnet for.... interesting people. There might even be something to do." Dell says, looking between his traveling companions.

Posted by: Morene Fellon - 05-30-2016, 08:49 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (3)

A terrible dryness filled Morene's mouth, the first thing she had noticed before opening her sleep-covered eyes from slumber in the Omniverse once more. Shakily and slowly, Morene felt the hard ground beneath her, immediately identifying it as cold pavement. She gulped, struggling due to her now sore throat.

Her vision slowly coming back to her, Morene sleepily rolled her head to the side, hearing it pop more than a few times. Putting a hand to her head, Morene couldn't help but groan realizing what had just happened.

"Confound portals..." Morene whined, before immediately bolting upwards remembering how she even got in this little predicament. As fast as she could, the huntress reached at the wall behind her, pulling herself up. Only then did she realize, upon feeling the wet, damp concrete's cold sting steep through her protective gloves, that she knew she was far away from where she wanted to be.

Her vision still hazy, Morene looked around to find nobody but her in the small, tight alleyway she found herself in. Her stomach knotted up, and her heart sank, Morene only thought to herself one thing.

Where was Yuuko? Had she already lost the one friend she seemed to have made in this strange realm only moments ago? Or, maybe this was a dream after all? As soon as that last thought popped up in her head, the huntress shook it off realizing how silly it was to deny the facts here; waking up was really painful after meeting that Omni fellow.

Her slightly clothed full-body armor helped to keep her comfortable, but Morene still felt off. Only for a few seconds did her knees shake under the sudden pressure of standing up again, but eventually Morene kept herself going to the end of the alleyway, fingers running along the brick walls she was leaning on. Finding herself a few meters away from a rather barren street, bits of debris flew in the wind, and in the distance, the ringing in her ears were replaced with the sounds of bustling city life.

Though, as soon as Morene tried to look around, not a lot of people were there. A few strange-looking individuals crossed the streets a couple of blocks away every once in a while for the half-minute she stood there, regaining her bearings. Despite moments ago being in a bit of stress, Morene couldn't help but widen her eyes at the view of the urban dusk sky.

Even if it was a bit cloudy, Morene doubted that a place such as this would allow for stargazing anyways. Even then, the thought pleased her just enough to motivate walking into the rather empty and dirty sidewalks. Reaching into her coat hiding her silvery alloy armors, Morene felt her wide-brimmed hat puff outwards into shape, smoothly adjusting it onto her head.

A burning worry filled Morene's gut as she began to walk, the thought of Yuuko hitting her conscious with the force to make mountains move. It shouldn't have concerned her so much, especially considering she'd only met the girl for an hour and a half at most, but Morene kept finding herself almost straying onto the open road and swiping into a few buildings so lost in thought, even if it was only for a few minutes. Eventually however, Morene began mumbling to herself after a series of deep breaths.

"I won't get anything accomplished at this rate," Morene scratched at her chin, tugging at her cloak in the meantime as she thought further. Sighing, the huntress eventually came to terms with the fact that she'd have to wander a bit to find Yuuko, if she was even there. Morene had to have been the slightest bit grateful, if it weren't for Yuuko right now, Morene had to admit to herself she'd not have the slightest clue where to begin in a place such as this, so far from home. Either way, the huntress felt like she had all the time in the world, and even though in the back of her head she knew that wasn't true, it was calming in such a situation.

Besides, Morene thought, how bad could this place really be in comparison? She couldn't help but think out loud after asking herself such a foolish question, knowing in slight regret that she'd more than likely find out soon enough.

"Oh, silly me..."

  Skeletor (Sage's Alt)
Posted by: Skeletor - 05-30-2016, 08:38 PM - Forum: Joining - Replies (9)

Skeletor Master of Evil

Source: He-Man & the Masters of the Universe (2002 version ideally, though really a mesh of the different canons most likely)

Character History: Keldor was the half-brother of King Randor of Eternia. He studied Sorcerery under the Dark Lord Hordak, and sought to take control of Eternia for himself. In an attack on the hall of wisdom, Keldor’s face was horribly burnt by a vial of acid, and he was forced to flee. Dying, he made his way back to Hordak, begging him for aid. The Dark lord agreed, granting him further power and stripping the damaged flesh from Keldor’s head. Now with only a floating skull, Keldor took on the new name, Skeletor, and pursued his quest to Become King of Eternia with renewed power and vigor.
For a time, Skeletor was sealed away on the Dark side of Eternia, but with a Coridite Crystal to power a device of his own creation, he was able to shatter this barrier and return. It was then that Skeletor first encountered He-man, Defender of Eternia, the most powerful man in the Universe. Skeletor would face he-man on numerous occasions, never able to truly beat the most powerful man in the universe, but always managing to escape and create a new plan. Skeletor seeks also to unlock the secrets of the mysterious Castle Grayskull, where he believes he will find the secret to He-man’s unlimited power.
During one of these plans, Skeletor found himself transported to somewhere entirely different…

Starting Moves:

Havoc Staff (Requires Physical Strength, 300 OM)

The Havoc staff is a strong purple metal staff approximately six feet in length, and tipped with a large ram-head skull, protecting a crystal ball behind it. The Havoc staff is a powerful weapon, and Skeletor’s preferred choice for physical combat. It is large and cumbersome to wield, preventing him from making rapid attacks, but this is balanced by the power behind the attacks, which is strong enough to easily break through a common sword if aimed properly.

Energy Projection (Ranged Proficiency, 600 OM)

Probably Skeletor's favorite attack since it requires very little concentration or energy, allowing him to make frequent use of the move throughout the battle. the Warlord points at his foe, and searing white energy gleams on his finger. After about 2-3 seconds, the bolt shoots out of his fingers directly at the target, impacting with the same force as a strong punch, and scorching the target slightly. Skeletor's beam will continue flying for a large distance, but beyond about 25 meters his inability to aim would prevent the attack from being anything more than in the target's general vicinity. The beam is about 5 cm in diameter and moves at an average speed (approximately the same speed as an arrow.) if he needs the beam to be more powerful, he can instead choose to channel the magic through his havoc staff, in which case the beam becomes larger and more powerful, now about 30 cm in diameter, and able to be maintained for a maximum of ten seconds, after which the drain on his energy becomes too much, and he must take time to recover his energy, (approximately 15 seconds) during which he will be unable to use his magical powers, and even so he will be unable to use the larger form at all, resorting only to the finger beams.. This larger beam is somewhat slower than the finger beams and instead is better for powering through a defense, since faster opponents will be able to dodge it pretty well, and has a shorter maximum distance, as it will diffuse into to wide an area beyond 20 meters. The beam does not have any sort of tracking capabilities, so Skeletor will have to focus and aim at a target if they are trying to dodge or deflect the attack, making any attempt to use this attack in conjunction with another move quite challenging. Similarly, although Skeletor can use this attack while moving, he will not be able to aim an attack while doing so, since keeping his finger or staff aimed while moving is very difficult.

Projectile deflection (telekinesis, 300 OM)

Skeletor uses this move to defend himself from an attacker at range. As the attack approaches, Skeletor extends his hand, palm facing the attack, which is deflected off of his hand on impact and flies away without harming him.

The effectiveness of this move is dependent on Skeletor’s TEC relative to the TEC of the attacker. If the opponent’s TEC is higher, Skeletor is unable to deflect the projectile, and is forced to dodge. If his TEC is higher, he can deflect the attack away to strike the ground harmlessly. In theory he could deflect the attack back at his opponent, but it would require his TEC to be three times higher than the opponent in question. In every cases Skeletor would have to recognize the attack was coming, so those opponents with a high enough speed or that get the drop on him will prevent him from utilizing this ability. Further, Skeletor must focus on the move, preventing him from using another move, or travelling at more than a walk while preforming this move.
Although Skeletor is able to insta-cast this move to deflect minor projectiles, he must charge up the move for about 2-3 seconds to be able to defend against more powerful attacks (and it still won't work against Super moves of course.) It is important to note that this move only works against relatively small projectiles (less than 25 cm in diameter) requires a relatively large amount of Skeletor’s power, making it very difficult for Skeletor to this move more than two or three times without taking a long time (about five minutes) to recharge the move.

  The LoVE Chart
Posted by: Sans - 05-30-2016, 04:50 PM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (116)

So, just today I was having a discussion with Desco and Weiss about the topic of LoVE and what it stands for certain people.

For those who haven't played the game, the definition the game provides is
A way of measuring someone's capacity to hurt. The more you kill, the easier it becomes to distance yourself. The more you distance yourself, the less you will hurt. The more easily you can bring yourself to hurt others.
That got me thinking. How, exactly, did Sans in UT determine how much LoVE you had, aside from counting your EXP points? What did the chart look like?

So, for fun, I made this. It goes from LV 1, the minimum, to LV 20, the maximum. I will put it in spoilers to prevent people from spoiling themselves on how LoVE and EXP work.
LV 1: The very definition of a Pacifist. Someone who, no matter what happened to them, never would intend harm on any creature. Do not interfere, instead, encourage such behavior.

LV 2: Someone who most likely killed through self-defense only, and most likely heavily regrets each death. Do not interfere, instead, encourage behavior towards LV 1.

LV 3: Someone who most likely killed through self-defense, and for the most part regretted each death. However, they might also have felt distant or somewhat cold during some particular deaths. Do not interfere, instead, encourage behavior towards LV 1.

LV 4-9: Someone who has killed through a combination of self-defense and purposeful murder. They most likely regret their actions once brought up with the consequences of their actions. Do not interfere, instead, encourage behavior towards LV 1 as best as you possibly can.

LV 10-14: Someone who has killed through a combination of self-defense and purposeful murder, and feels rather distant and cold even when brought up with the consequences of their actions. Do not interfere. If attempts have been made to steer them towards LV 1, then all attempts at encouragement to change should cease and close observation should start.

LV 15-18: Someone who has killed primarily through purposeful murder, with little to no instances of self-defense. They feel little to no emotion regarding the deaths they have created, and some might even relish in it. Do not interfere, instead, observe their actions closely. If they start to transition to a lower LV (around LV 9 or lower) then resume encouragement.

LV 19: Someone who has killed completely through purposeful murder, and holds absolutely no remorse towards his/her actions. Someone with LV 19 is a very dangerous threat, one close to cataclysm due to their power. Interference is necessary as soon as a LV 19 is confirmed to prevent a transition to LV 20.

LV 20: The definition of a sociopath/pyschopath. They kill without qualms, they feel nothing but their selfish desire for immediate satisfaction, which they only satisfy through murder. Someone with LV 20 has or is in the process of committing genocide, or has killed a very large number of people. LV 20's are the most dangerous due to their very real ability to wipe out large numbers of people to the point of extinction, and have potentially world ending power. They must be stopped at all costs.
I might also put in characters from media's and put in their LoVE's if people want me too. I might even try to figure out other character's LoVE's on this site! Man, this'll be fun.

May Monthly Accolades (Until June 15th)
Posted by: Dark Link - 05-30-2016, 01:09 PM - Forum: Bookkeeping Archive - Replies (19)

The news of its death was premature. The 'totally not late' May edition of the Community Monthly Accolades is upon us!

For those of you who are unaware, the Accolades involve nominating (and later, voting for) those who have outdone themselves in a particular area each month. For variety's sake, the categories for each month may be different.

You have until June 6th to nominate your choices. After that, we will proceed to the voting phase where members will vote among the two individuals with the most nominations for each category. An exception to this is if someone manages to get 5+ more nominations than the runner-up, in which case that person becomes the winner by default.

If you wish to participate, think of who stood out the most in a particular category this month and post your choice, along with a 2-3 sentence long explanation, in this thread. You are not barred from nominating your own characters/threads, nor do you have to fill out all the categories.

The winners will become this month's "Community Stars" and will receive a user title in recognition of their achievement (which can be activated by going into the User CP and changing your Display Group).

And now, this month's categories are:

‘Best’ Character – Which character has you engaged the most?

‘Best’ Writer – Which writer wowed you the most?

Most Helpful – A staffer or a member who gave you amazing feedback on a story or was simply there to help you sort out some of your problems.

Rising Star – Which up-and-coming member stands at the crème of the crop? (must have joined within the last month and a half or have less than 8000 OM)

'Best' Story – What story did you find most riveting/entertaining?

Most Heartbreaking Moment – Alas, in spite of Omni's jolly demeanour, the Omniverse isn't all fun and games. Its inhabitants are no strangers to grief and suffering, and even Primes must at times endure difficulties and hardships in their lives. What character moment made you feel sad and sympathetic?

'Best' NPC – What non-player character (can be a site, personal, or story NPC) entertained you the most (for whatever reason). Please note who the 'owner' of said NPC is, just in case I am not familiar with them.

Purple Ribbon - Consider this a bonus category for nominating someone who, while they may not be the best and have all the twitter followers, you believe deserves to be recognized for what they bring the the Omniverse. (The winner must be a DIFFERENT person than last month's winner)

  Shen, Lord of Gongmen City
Posted by: Lord Shen - 05-30-2016, 05:11 AM - Forum: Joining - Replies (9)

Character name:
Shen, (Former) Lord of Gongmen City

Character source:
Kung Fu Panda 2
Character history:
Born many years ago into the ruling peafowl family of Gongmen City- Shen's heritage being the primary factor in which defined his childhood; and his later misguided pursuits in life.
His family's lineage had spanned over countless ages: its right to rule founded upon their unmatched ability for governance and quick calculations- being drawn from generations past spent hoarding over the various discrepancies that went into the chemistry of crafting the highest caliber of fireworks.
The culmination of his family's endurance would be encapsulated within the Tower of the Sacred Flame- and that of the Palace he would spend the majority of his childhood within.

The Only son of two aging nobles- Shen was heavily adored and saturated with an assortments of luxuries- seen as a gift from beyond, as all children of the family were- for a lifetime well spent ruling fairly, bringing prosperity to the people of their sacred city.
While his youth was spent well relishing in the city and its people- as had his father and his father's father before him, his foremost concern had been for its people and their well-being.
With each raid on the outer walls of the city; riots, uprisings- threats of invasion: there would only ever be one response to such prevalent and terrifying threats- to seek a defense.

Despite his rationalization of doing it for the defense for the people- as all figures of authority eventually have: his true purpose for his rather intensive studies into furthering his family's uses of fireworks would come out of that of a fear of the very people he had grown around- who had, in essence: he had been raised by. This would lead to the eventual discovery the more volatile and destructive uses of the various reactive powders used within some of the most secretive stores of his family's most astounding firework displays.
For as fireworks had once served as a symbol for the peafowls' compassion and trust for their subjects- as would Shen's first cannons provide the perfect symbol of terror and paranoia- to secure his would-be reign from pretentious threats.

However, it would be that very same sneaking sense of distrust of his very subjects in which would cement the death of his reign before it would even begin. Concerned with their son's new-found interest in developing weapons of destruction- his parents, characterized, as their ancestors had been: by the spiritual aspects of the world- sought council in a trusted soothsayer. Having inherited a rather strong interest in the divine- Shen would take great care to hear of what fortune the soothsayer would have to tell of his future- disregarding any assortment of danger may come of it.
As he would hear of his destiny- he would hear of a great fleet of his own construction- a conquest ready and able to not only secure the greatness of Gongmen: but to conquer and establish a dynasty over the whole of China.
And that it would all be destroyed by a warrior of black and white- before it could sail from the harbor.

Shen became distraught as to what failure he would bring to his family, and as to what his parents would do in response to the prophecy- as to disown a son destined to bring travesty to the peafowl lineage. So he set out to rid the land of any and all who would dare challenge it- through the utter extermination of any and all who could fulfill the prophecy, so that he may defy a fate he feared- and to secure the love and life he still had.

By the end of his attempted extermination of any and all pandas within the known land- he would return home. His parents, upon hearing of their son's misdeeds- brought themselves to force him into exile, and to strip him of any and all inheritance that had been his birthright as their only child. Taking refuge into the mountains- Shen would gather his forces- his conviction only be driven further by his the sense of betrayal he felt from his own loving father and mother: who had eventually passed in due part to their grief over the separation from their son.

Shen pressed on still, in spite of everything he had lost: seeing his only chance at happiness now was that in which would be taken.

Returning to his ancestral home of Gongmen: he would overthrow the ruling Masters' Council, and install himself as acting ruler- taking little time in preparing his fleet for combat, before meeting his defeat, as was foretold: a panda of black and white, created from the very fear in which had plagued the peacock for his entire life- and eventually sealed his fate.

Having thought himself crushed beneath the weight of his former flagship's malformed cannon- Shen instead has found himself plunged into the Omniverse, confused and estranged from his surroundings- now doubtful with what is to be of his destiny.

Physical Description: (originals only)

Height:
-Standing straight up from the bottom of his head's crest to his talons- Shen stands in at 6'5"

-Due to their rather lengthy necks, however- peafowl typically have a hunch- therefore leaving shen typically at an average height of 6'1" or 6'2".

-His train is rather long, however- in which would certainly given him presence in any situation, the tips of the feathers standing 9'4" from the ground, despite each feather only standing in at around 6'0" even.

Stats:
ATK: 1
DEF: 1
SPD: 3
TEC: 5

Starting Proficiencies:

Physical Strength- 1000 OM
Having been noble born- Shen has spent numerous years vigorously training in various offensive hand-to-hand techniques specializing in quick strikes, fast movement- and redirecting the force of opposing attacks to better support his own momentum in combat. Long, sweeping pulls from his Quan Do allowing for him to efficiently match enemy strikes- while aiming to use the very motion and power of their strikes against them.

Ranged Proficiency- 1000 OM
Taking the philosophies of his early masters to heart- Shen is never estranged to ruthless combat. Having later trained himself to wield such projectiles such as throwing knives- Shen taught himself that to control any situation- was to hold its solution under one's sleeve.

Starting Powers:
Flight - 1800 om
A member of the peafowl family- Shen holds the ability to take flight- in spite of his rather cumbersome train of lengthy feathers. Self taught to utilize them to their fullest potential in flight- he is allowed various additional dimensions to his movements: in combat and out.

Master Acrobat -400 om
A youth spent in preparation for his reign of Gongmen City- Shen became well acquainted with several dozen of the training courses endured by his father's best warriors- as had his father trained alongside his own father's men. Several dozen years spent dodging and weaving through various obstacles allows for Shen to easily maneuver across the battlefield while wielding his lengthy Guan Dao
Starting Moves:
Shen's Guan Dao - 300 OM
Custom forged from some of china's finest metals- Shen's Guan Dao had once been that of his father's, and his father's father. A family heirloom in its prime- made and tempered in flame to assure the protection of its master's subjects. Shen had taken the blade to the province- wide genocide of the pandas as to match its life with that in which would be of his own reign. In the end, he only succeeded in desecrating it, and sealing the fate of the dynasty he obsessed over.
The Guan Dao- a quite lengthy pole weapon of about seven feet- a three foot blade perpendicular to a two foot wide crossguard from tip-to-tip of either side: leaving a four foot long shaft.
Seeing as the blade nearly spans the length of Shen's feathered train- it could be used with various techniques. Ranging from traditional spearing to the agile footwork, depending on the positioning of its owner's grip. In most of Shen's techniques- he will use the Guan Dao to redirect and parry his opponents' attacks- as well as allowing for him to better receive them with a far more generous reach of his blade in close-quarters combat. Often times, he will not only utilize the blade for deterring and delivering strikes- but to better position himself. Seeing their rather light and fragile body structures as  peafowl- his family ability to balance upon it- and in turn, pole-vault while in the midst of combat: has been long taught across his lineage- and has become a rather signature move of a peafowl combatant's dexterity on the battlefield.

Iron Talons-300 OM
When he was but a boy, Shen dreamed of being able to experiment with fireworks the way his ancestors had- driven by his curiosity and wish for a great legacy- he had pleaded with his father for a personal laboratory for his own testing. Through relentless begging of both his mother and father, he was finally allowed his dream to be realized: to personally formulate and construct the fireworks in which would be used to please the people of his city. However- as he would begin to test with bigger, more volatile explosions- so would he learn firsthand of the rather terrible potential the chemistry of such reactions held in secret. For as he prepared for his sixteenth new year celebration- so too would he have the mark burned into his talons. While they eventually healed- he would no longer hold the ability to feel his legs to the same degree he used to. Discouraged to continue experimenting at first- it would be at the encouragement of his childhood nanny- the very same soothsayer who would later predict the very fortune that would dictate the course of his very destiny- that would convince him to continue his work- to make himself the best he could be, but most of all: to find happiness.
Such brought upon the invention of the Iron Talons. While at first being a simple device made by Shen to recognize when his feet would hit the ground- over time, he would slowly develop them into weapons to be utilized in combat- and eventually as a means to light the fuses of his great cannons.
For both grappling and repelling strikes- the talons are of a tempered iron forge- great for receiving and dealing hits without doing much damage. While making stealth relatively impossible- the claws in which guide the Peacock’s feet would eventually turn into tools of intimidation- hidden under the veil of his elegant silken robes: they could intimidate even the most level-headed of enemies.
While they could be used in a raking motion- they are well capable of being able to enhance any movements or attacks the Peafowl could typically make with his talons.
Each tipped to a fined perfection- with the inner most claws on both feet being lined with a razor sharp blade- both used for lethal intent and the lighting of his precious inventions. Each metal talon is six inches long- with the blade itself extending the inner most talon to about eleven inches- providing quite the instrument to aid Shen end his enemies.
