  Your Crowning Moments of Awesome!
Posted by: Tearen Wover - 04-14-2017, 01:41 PM - Forum: The Whateververse, Man - Replies (14)

So, I personally believe that people deserve to have big egos regarding their achievements. Even if you haven't say, found a cure for Ebola or mapped the surface of Mars, everyone has done something that is impressive!

So share! There are no standards for what can and can't go here. School accomplishments, hard work, even video game stories; what's important is that it made YOU feel impressive, and I you should hold on to that.

It'd be nice if these were shared in the form of stories, but it's not necessary. I have one from around...must have been 16ish.

...

Growing up in central PA naturally means that I was exposed to a lot of paintball. It's the perfect blend of redneck and preppy culture, because rednecks like shooting things and only preppy kids can afford good equipment. Usually when I played paintball I just ended up with several dozen welts and a smudge on my visor, but there was one time, one glorious time, when I single handedly won a game.

We had already been playing for a few hours, playing in the woods in the back yard of a kid named Jeremy. There were seven of us, and for the current round we split into new teams. Unlike previous rounds, however, these teams were clearly stacked against mine.

The other kids had the four most athletic, best equipped and experienced paintballers on their team, and my team consisted of my sister and the youngest kid in the group, and me; 'target practice'. This is no direct statement against my sister Zie and Bennet; for back yard games like this they were decent in a paint fight. It just happened that the other team had a varsity basketball player, two pro paintballers, and the rich kid with a paintball SNIPER of all things.

Oh, and we were doing a fort-assault style game. Guess who was in the fort? Not us dopes.

So the round kicked off and our team were able to fight our way up to a row of bushes on the south side of the fort, which was basically just a bunch of half-rotted cargo pallets stacked in a circle with chicken wire. The fort team was suppressing out position behind a fallen tree pretty heavily, but couldn't advance without going out in the open. Stalemate.

After a few more minutes of feeling eachother's defenses, I was fed up. I gave my two spare tubes of ammo to Zie and Bennet, along with my spare tank. That left me with a third of a tank of O2 and half a hopper of paintballs.

"Keep firing but listen." I said, patting them both.

"You keep their attention and keep pressure on them. I'm going to move to flank them."

Before Zie or Bennet could protest, I began retreat back along our path of advance before beginning to skirt a wide loop around the perimeter of the woods. I crawled, climbed and crouched, moving as silently as I could. There were several times where, had the entrenched team bothered to look to the right, I would have been easily spotted.

As it was, they were too blood thirsty and complacent in their skill and defenses to think the dweebs on the assault team would do anything other than peck away fruitlessly at the fort. They knew it was just a matter of time, and so did I.

At one point, I stumbled and snapped a large, dry branch. I was sure they would hear, so I hit the deck and half buried myself in a leaf pile. The rhythm of exchanging fire didn't miss a beat. Slowly, quietly, I got back up. After about three minutes of sneaking behind trees and bushes in the jagged forest hills, I was finally concealed behind a tall skinny tree on the north side of the fort. I peeked out from behind it, and I could see them all hunched over behind the cargo palletts like a row of ducks, totally exposed. Not one of them was scanning the forest. They were laser focused, all eyes straight in the opposite direction from me.

My personal paintball gun was an underpowered semi-auto piece of shit. I couldn't get any closer without compromising my retreat vector, but this was one of the longest shots I had ever made. Unlike the rich kid with the air sniper, my shots tended to arc and english terribly, so I had to get this right the first time. I steadied my paintball gun againt the edge of the tree trunk and propped it up on a splayed thumb; a trick I had learned shooting targets up at my Pap's deer camp.

I tried to slow my breathing, and squinted through the grime on my mask. As usual, the visor on the black paintball mask had been the first thing shot that day, and my accuracy had been suffering ever since. So, I did the unthinkable and lifted it up off of my face, tilting it back onto the crown of my head. This was it. I chose my targets; the two pro players. There was no way I would be able to take them all out; my gun was too slow. Two would have to do.

I gauged my firing arc and squeezed the trigger.

PHUT PHUT PHUT PHUT PHUT PHUT PHUT

The panic was sublime. The second they heard my shots they all ducked, but that actually put them straight into the path of my erratic firing. My two targets were down, and as I pulled my mask down and ran straight back from my tree, I heard the paint sniper send a shot straight over my shoulder.

PATAFF

But I was gone, into the bushes. Bennet and Zie were flawless; the second they heard the panic and shouting they charged from their cover and unleashed a relentless barrage of shots. Bennet got hit, but it was too late by that point. The match was done. The dweebs had not only won; we had embarasses the fuck out of the cool kids.

And it was in that moment that I realized I had a legitimate knack for tactics and stealth.

  Baywatch: Costa Del Sol
Posted by: Harry Potter - 04-13-2017, 08:31 PM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - Replies (1)

In the low stakes world of Costa Del Sol Beach Justice, the people are protected by two separate yet equally unimportant groups; the highly capable men and women that save the lives of beachgoers, and the stoners that hang out with them. These are their stories.

✶✶✶
Cedric Diggory, Cheif Lifeguard of Costa Del Sol Baywatch, sparkled under the overcast sky as he gazed out over Lifeguard Tower Nine and Three Quarters onto the beach. He flipped his hair breathtakingly and frowned with his luscious lips, causing the small crowd of middle-aged women who had taken to sitting around the tower drinking wine coolers to grow concerned for him. What terrible thought would dare cause such a sweet boy discomfort, they asked themselves. Is it the storm that darkened his mood? If it was, they thought to themselves, Omni  himself would surely part the clouds just to see Cedric smile.

Although it was indeed the storm that caused Cedric Diggory discomfort, it was because he was worried about the reckless surfers and tourists that still played in the choppy water and rising waves. Already, surfers were pouring in to catch the huge swells produced by the storm, and nothing short of a hurricane would distract the Magikarp trainers.

Every year, during spawning season, all the Magikarp trainers compete in a Magikarp race called the Magikarp Grand Prix for a prize of 100 OM. After they cross the finish line, the Magikarp keep swimming into The Vasty Deeps to spawn and maybe evolve.

Hnaaag, Volunteer Lifeguard of Costa Del Sol Baywatch, was one such trainer. The dreadlocked, blonde Wookie surfer took very few things as seriously as training his Magikarp, Gunther, for the upcoming Grand Prix; he planned to use the prize money to buy a new Magikarp.

Cedric watched the trainers, undeterred by the increasingly stormy conditions. His abominable muscles twitched in concern. He sighed as he walked back inside Lifeguard Tower Nine and Three Quarters.

"Frank," he says to the wall. "Any word from Fluer and Fen'iya?"

Cedric waited patiently for Frank to respond.

"Yeah," came the stoned Abra's telepathic ping."They said that the kid cut his foot on some glass, so um, I guess they patched up the kid and got rid of the glass. That's the second time this week, though."

An adorable scowl crossed over Cedric's face; if there's one thing he didn't tolerate it was littering.

"Ok, anything else?" the wizard asked.

"Uh, yeah, Fluer says, 'zis bikini, it eez too small', and Fen'iya says she's just exaggerating. So no," Frank answered in Cedric's mind.

"Alright, just uh, tell them to keep an out pier-side until Marla gets off work," Cedric responded. "I'm gonna go surf around the reef, the water look pretty choppy over there."

"Sure man," said Frank the Abra, unconcerned.

Cedric ignored the giggling women as he grabbed his red surfboard and walked down the ramp of the lifeguard tower, his wand tucked into his Hufflepuff-themed board shorts, his hair wafting in the ocean breeze.

"Hey Hnaaag," Cedric said as he waded into the ocean towards the albino Wookie. "Hey Gunther," Cedric said, and the crossed-eyed Magikarp flopped happily.

"Sup bro?" responded the Wookie. "Goin' out?"

"Yeah, just up to the reef real quick, look for stragglers. Keep an eye out till I get back?" Cedric asked handsomely, to which Hnaaag nodded.

Cedric paddled out into the cool, clear waters of Costa Del Sol, and every droplet of water that touched his skin considered itself lucky. He popper up onto his board, but instead of catching a wave, Cedric leans back on his board and starts to rise steadily into the air.

Cedric finally smiled, at which point an angel somewhere got it's wings. Like Harry, Cedric was an accomplished Seeker and natural flyer. Cedric, however, had taken to the flying surfboard much more quickly. To him it was more intuitive than a broomstick, more natural than swimming; it just felt right.

Cedric soared above the same reef where Harry had once saved a girl being attacked by a swarm of tentacool. He watched the Krabby's crawling atop it, scattering as his shadow passed over them. He came upon a pair of Kobolds sitting on the edge of the reef, fishing and telling jokes. AS Cedric flew by, they flagged him down, and he glided over to them.

"Hullo then," Cedric said dreamily.

"Sup," says one of the Kobolds, the one wearing a pair of khaki shorts. "I'm Garkyohillcrarnkeshka, this is my girlfriend, Cindy."

"Hi!" said Cindy politely, a slightly shorter Kobold in a pink sundress.

"Hullo Garkyohillcrarnkeshka, Cindy," replied Cedric, flashing his impossible straight teeth. "Did you folks need something?" he asked.

The Kobolds glanced at each other in surprise. "Well, no," said Cindy. "We just wanted to say that there's a storm coming and you should probably go ashore. Didn't you know humans can drown?"

Cedric lost his easy smile. "Thank you for the concern, you folks enjoy your afternoon," he said, gliding off, his Seeker's eyes scanning the waters.

  Though I Walk...
Posted by: Doomguy - 04-13-2017, 04:09 PM - Forum: The Void - Replies (2)

Going through a dimensional portal has never been a pleasant experience, as I’ve mentioned several times already. It’s about the sudden change. It’s what I expected when I went through the island gate. What I found wasn’t some pearly gate or trans-dimensional rainbow road into the stars. I might not have even been surprised if I just saw a giant image of Omni’s smiling face, like the most egotistical front door you could have. I prepared myself for whatever I might cross paths with in this other land, whatever demons or angels foolhardy to come at me would get a big serving of buckshot.

What I found was nothing.

Not necessarily an absence of anything. But a complete vastness of emptiness stretched out before me. No wind to blow across the seemingly infinite blackness ahead of me. No sound but the echo of my two steps into the void. For a brief moment I had wondered I had died and this was where bad primes went when Omni no longer found them entertaining. I stared out there, stunned and in awe.

I was like this until I finally remembered to breath.

I recovered from the daze and moved slowly forward, tracing my eyes across almost the featureless universe. It was not completely empty, despite what first impressions offered. Basic shapes blended into the horizon, stairs that seem to go into nowhere and catwalks into the abyss.

I let out a frustrated groan that slowly turned into a rage filled scream as a lot of pent up emotion and sudden realization came in at once. A maze. Another fucking maze. How much of my life was going to be stuck in mazes and labyrinths? At least this one wasn’t trying to actively kill me, but that shouldn’t be the bar of entry!

What was I even looking for? Another gate? I squinted out to the horizon and I wasn’t getting anything outside of the light behind me. Likely obscured. Maybe in a room. Could be fucking under me for all I could tell. I decided that grumbling was not going to change anything and stumbled across the platform with my shotgun as an impromptu cane.

Last thing I needed was to end this whole quest with an anti-climatic stumble off the edge of a platform and crack my skull open...

Then everything lit up.

A pulse went across the void, originating from seemingly everywhere before the multi colored lights sped off in hidden lines in the ground. Like wires in a motherboard, the connections were an intricate matrix that spanned across the entire dimensions. Bright white traveled in clustered to some far off destination, for a purpose that was beyond me. The sudden light framed the world around me and revealed the labyrinth for the briefest of moments. It was seeming unnatural, illogical, and yet not without a twisted logic to it. Not unlike a M.C. Escher painting. Beyond, just within sight, was massive, long limbed yet seemingly faceless beasts that walked on four hoofed legs. They grazed with no reaction to the suddenly light show nor such an insignificant creature as myself, and they disappeared into the darkness once the pulse of light ended.

I was left alone with a serious case of existential crisis.

There was a serious need to get out of there. Forget just getting to Omni, I thought sticking in here for any longer than needed was going to seriously affect my health. There had to be a pattern. Omni didn’t exactly come off as someone who planned, or took things seriously. If his goal was entertainment, then this dimension must keep to that. Either it was not built for people, and this was meant for a purely practical use, or it was meant to be solved to get to him. Either way, there was a way there.

Or he just liked light shows and I was fucked. But hey, I’m an optimist

“Maybe I should have tried finding ruby slipper first” I joked as I walked down a long walkway. The light from the gate started to fade and disappeared, leaving the only light the dull glow of the lines that had flashed so brilliantly earlier. I kept on the straight and narrow as far as it would take me, and I was dumped into a platform with two more path that branched out from it.

Neither looked like a good choice. I turned around to see how far I had moved, perhaps I missed something on the way.

And I somehow slammed my face in a wall that was not there a second ago.

Curses and yells flew into the twilight. I slammed the bottom of my boot into the offending wall, and when that inevitably failed to do anything I waved my fists into the air and raved to the sky.

“Oh, so it’s a MOVING MAZE? Fine! That’s how we’re gonna play it, you fucking cocksuckers!?” This went on for a while before i turned back to my two choices. I was fuming, but as long as there was some progress then I would get over it.

Except both paths seem to disappear as they suddenly stopped like diving boards over what counted as the ground in this place. I was stuck, and the only apparent escape was jumping into the wild blue yonder and trying my luck again after I respawned at the Nexus.

It should change again, I immediately corrected myself. If it happened once, so it should again. That was the hope, but I knew I had to consider what my other option was. I still had my jet pack, I could attempt to make it to some other nearby platform. Hell, I haven’t checked if I could summon still, for all knew a ladder could get me over the wall behind me. But with time to think I considered what happened if luck ran out on me and I was really stuck.

My eyes ran across the leylines. Two of them were laid parallel to each other, going down one path, around the edge of the platform and then down other other path. If this was one giant circuit board, the lines would continue on the flip side. I got on my belly and looked underneath to see this was the case. When I reached out, I wanted to see if I could feel a punch through the material if there was some sort of divide.

What I felt was gravity pull my arm down. Either these platforms had their own pull, or all the rules I knew were big jokes.

I was a child running around in an eldritch playhouse. I didn’t know the rules, and the world around me twisted and bend in impossible ways.

But I could figure it out. I had a chance, and that’s all I needed. A lot has trained me for this, and a maze would be a fitting, if annoying, end to return home to.

Characters that may never be played!
Posted by: Guu - 04-13-2017, 12:05 AM - Forum: The Creative Corner - Replies (17)

Hello Omniversians! Let's play a little creative game! Pick some characters you think will never been selected as PCs and describe what their adventures in the Omniverse would be like! You can take these seriously or do them as jokes.

Note: Please don't use this as a platform to outright bash characters or franchises you personally hate. This topic is for fun, not nerd rage. ^^

Anywho, I'll get this started!

Hamtaro: After barely surviving the Nexus, he'll travel to the Tangled green where he establishes the greater hamster transport system and creates an underground clubhouse where other hamsters can gather. This eventually become a cult where they worship the stars in the sky, thinking they are little candy balls that could fall at any moment. What started as a few, turns into hundreds, eventually thousands. Each night they'll pray to the stars to fall and feed their young with delicious sugar. Eventually the orcs catch on to hamster kind. They task their local exterminator, Orkin, to clean up the infestation. Many were killed, and hamster kind is forced to relocate to Ambrosia. The player rage quits soon after.

Squirrel Girl: Diablo; dead. Palpatine; dead. Omni; dead. Player; banned.

Squid Girl: In this new setting, she decides to continue her bid to take over the human world. She goes to Costa del Sol where she plans to begin her domination schemes. It was here she quickly found out that not everyone in the Omniverse are humans. Thinking non-humans rule here, she instead works towards keeping the beaches clean. She becomes a spokesperson for conservation organizations, and the stories quickly become about her dealing with the fame. Eventually, the player will switch out for some random villain when they decided they didn't desire to write slice of life stories forever.

Saitama: (Someone maybe nuts enough to play this one, but I'm hedging my bets here.) The player starts out as businessman Saitama and basically roleplays his grind to power, slowly and surely, avoiding all and any fights just constant training, then when he unlocks tier 3 super moves, he'll make their One Punch that move. This player has a strategy to ensure the One Punch is the final attack, like a string of lower tier super moves that don't involve touching the opponent, just to wittle their HP down. At least that WAS his plan. The actual player eventually starved to death doing nothing but writing fluff posts about Saitama training.

I saw the end of the world/Danger room quest [Avengers semi-official quest ] (open)
Posted by: Marcus Wright - 04-12-2017, 07:01 PM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - Replies (6)

As the exhausted terminator walked into the main lobby of the Avengers tower, he dragged his metallic legs toward his room for a brief breather. The Avengers seemed a little downtrodden after their latest mission had failed.

It seemed even the Avengers needed a bit of time to themselves as the blue ridden star and stripped man was carrying the leader of the Avengers in to lay him on the couch to recover his computer programming.

Even Frisk looked extremely sad, her face looking red and puffy after losing a Avenger to an unexpected fall.

Dr. Alphys was busy in the lab trying to work out a new design for something.

But Terial rushed out, worried as heck for her little Frisk. "Why is everyone so down?"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blair sat on Marcus's bed staring out the window. She just got to the tower and all she did was mess things up. The brunette stared out the window until she finally would say something to the hurting Avengers just outside that door. Sure, Marcus was here but she wanted to make up for what she could outside.

Marcus, however wasn't paying attention. He walked right past his room and stopped at the Danger Room and made his own decision to stay in the room as long as he could.

He took off his coat and summoned his leather jacket. "Guys, don't kill me if this doesn't go right.."

"Here goes nothing!" Marcus muttered under his breath.

The holographic scene changed to that of a dark battlefield. Something straight out of Marcus's world with the smell of rotting flesh and metal skulls littering the battlefield.

This was.. a personal fight to say the least.

Of course in any simulation, there was dangerous situations. This was no exception as a metal monster seemed to be pointing a gun at a simulated John Connor in this situation. But everything about the situation felt so real.

[Quest] The hero the city needs
Posted by: Todd Ingram - 04-12-2017, 01:25 PM - Forum: Coruscant - Replies (4)

Bruce emerged from the gate, finding himself in the glorious first tier of Coruscant. This was Not what he was expecting, the peaceful atmosphere was almost too good to be True. Blue skies, skyscrapers reaching for the clouds, respectable folks walking around. Granted They did dress a bit different from him but respectable nonetheless. He'd Probably stand out more.  'This looks like future Metropolis. I should locate Some sort of computer, If They even still have them.' Several trooper patrols were visible, they took the whole guarding this place pretty serious. The out of place prime started wandering around on the top tier. The green was a refreshing change of scenery from all the destruction and hideouts back home. The peaceful atmosphere was a sensation long forgotten by the vigilante detective. His travels took him right to the centre of the top tier, a large spiral-Shaped glass building stood triumphantly amongst the skyscrapers. Apparently it was the Well known Coruscant library, exactly what he needed, a place with answers, a source of information.

Bruce approached the front desk and smiled charismatically towards the imperial woman behind it, "I'd like access to one of your computers." He noticed several camera's around, for a library it was pretty well monitored.

The woman observed him closely, with judging eyes she spoke in a monotome cold voice," You're new here aren't you?"

Bruce stayed in character and offered the woman a smile, "Yes, I guess I am. Will that be a problem?"

The librarian shook her head slightly, "Not at all, we just need you to register. The information will be shared with the local authorities. They tend to keep close watch of the people that come and go here, whether they are primes or secondaries."

'Primes and secondaries, That's the second time people refer to others with those labels. Let's play along until I know more.' Bruce started filling in the form on some sort of digital pad. He tried to keep the answers short and vague, no need to give them more information than required.
"Thank you, last thing we need is your thumbprint. Again, this is required by the authorities."
Bruce complied and pressed his finger on the scanner, a quick confirmation beep and it was done. The woman processed it all on her workstation before addressing her guest again.
"Thank you Mr.Wayne for cooperating in this, feel free to make use of our facilities. Enjoy your stay in Coruscant. If you follow the hallway and go up three floors you will find several public dataverse devices you are allowed to use."
The prime in disguise stayed in character perfectly, offered one last smile before offering his word of thanks before heading in the library.

The detective sat behind what they referred to as a dataverse device. For Bruce it looked like a high tech computer, almost similar to his own Bat-computer from his hideout back home, almost. His eyes moved quickly over the screen, soaking in the information the dataverse was providing him. He learned about primes, secondaries, verses and Coruscants different tiers. It seemed this verse was obviously hiding its true colors. His knowledge of the Omniverse grew with every new data entry he read. Learning about high profile primes, large verse wide events that shaped This dimension and even Some theories about who Omni is and what This place is. Some believe everyone here is merely a copy of their former selves. Others are convinced It's a world were lost souls go after They die. Many theories but no answers. Some of the primes he found were wanted criminals, others, Heroes to the public. 'No matter where you go, these things never change.' The investigator however Did find many useful data regarding omnilium and Its use, a tool he could use to his advantage during his stay in the Omniverse.

Darkness started to set in, time flew by as he gained knowledge. Bruce shut down his dataverse terminal and got up, stretching his cramped muscles. Finding his way back through the magnificent library of Coruscant, there was much more to behold but there was no time for that. It was getting close to nightfall and he had yet to find a place to rest. 'The lower tiers were described as areas that were in development for improvement. Sounds like bureaucratically bullshit to me, I'll have to go and see for myself just How in development these tiers are.' Bruce's thoughts got interrupted by a male voice coming from behind the front desk, "please come back anytime Mr.Wayne." Even though another person was stationed at the entrance, he continued to act normal, even If this pencil pusher he never met, addressed him by his name. " Thank You for your hospitality." With those words he left the colossal building.

Bruce couldn't shake the feeling he was being watched, it could've been because of the many patrols, the surveillance equipment everywhere, or the fact people referred to him by name back at the library. It might be better to seek rest in one of the lower tiers. Sky taxi were flying over him. 'No way I am getting in one of those, looks like a drunk Quin is driving that thing.' The elevators were a much better choice. Following the signs that were spread across the futuristic metropolis. Eventually he found his way to the elevators, the large constructions were pretty impressive on their own. These weren't your elevators like back home, no, they were large oval shaped plateaus with plenty of space to transport a significant  pool of people. Bruce walked in together with several others, their descent started as soon as the door closed shut. During their trip down the detective still couldn't shake the feeling of being observed. He continued his journey all the way down to tier 5 of Coruscant where he got off, and there it was, the true face of Coruscant. The high tech skyscrapers, the green trees, the friendly people were nowhere to be seen in this place. If the first tier resembled a futuristic Metropolis this was surely the future version of Gotham.

People near him started staring, his suit was giving him away, he looked too well dressed for someone living in this tier, he started to pick up the pace, looking for a place to eat and lay low for a while. During his exploration of the fifth tier he noticed a severe lack of Coruscant guardsmen here, also surveillance was lacking. The occasional camera was still around but nowhere near as intense as the higher grounds. Finally he ran into something that looked like a bar, he went in only to find himself in a very uncomfortable position. With a unified look every person in that bar glared towards the newcomer. It was obvious he wasn't welcome here, this may not be the best place to lay low.

Chapter 5: The Little Orphan Tentacool
Posted by: Harry Potter - 04-12-2017, 10:01 AM - Forum: The Vasty Deep - No Replies

Harry Potter sat on his floating surfboard over the waters of the Vasty Deep, watching the herd of tentacool glowing happily. He had a swollen knot on his forehead, and he seemed exhausted.

"Your contract is fulfilled young prime," said Golduck telepathically. The blue, duck-like pokemon rose from the waters, floating up to Harry. "You have destroyed the giant robotic Magikarp that the Pokemon poachers were using to catch my flock of misplaced tentacool. Now they can return home to their island, and we will never darken the beaches of Costa Del Sol again. You even saved the little orphan tentacool, and were even given the String of Honor by the Queen Tentracruel herself."

"Yeah I remember that," Harry said, poking delicately at the knot on his head. "You know Golduck, you really taught me a lot about friendship, and the power to overcome any obstacle. As evidenced by your rich backstory that I learned about, on our adventure that you were just talking about, you know, to stop the pokemon from poaching uh,"

"To stop the pokemon poachers," Psyduck corrected.

"To stop the Pokemon poachers, right," Harry continued. "Well yeah, I guess we really did it, that was a really exciting adventure we just had. But I think it's about time I get home."

Golduck nods solemnly; the respect between the two was immeasurable. "I will always always remember the heroism you have displayed here, Harry Potter. Good luck."

"And I'll always remember you Golduck, and your rich tapestry of a backstory," replied Harry warmly, deeply touched.

Harry then glided away on his surfboard, waving goodbye to Golduck and the tentacool, who all waved back, even the little orphan tentacool and the Queen Tentacruel herself.
