Legend of the Super Saiyan (Transformation Discussion)
#1
So this is a looooooooong way off from being something I really need to worry about but I have been planning out Goku's transformations in my head and there is a minor problem with them: There are just too dang many of them.

My initial plan was to go: Kaio-ken > Super Saiyan > Super Saiyan 2 and then just have that be as far as he can get in the Omniverse for whatever reason.

But that didn't sit well with me as it felt like a bit of a cop-out. So I thought about it and I came up with this as a solution:

Kaio-Ken > Super Saiyan > Unlock Tier 3 Transformations > Sell back Kaio-Ken & Super Saiyan > Buy 'Mastered Super Saiyan' > Super Saiyan 2 > Super Saiyan 3

That kind of works because around the time Super Saiyan becomes mastered he doesn't really use Kaio-Ken at all any more, and he shows off Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 at right around the same time. Also, whatever tier 3 I wind up getting, it is REALLY exhausting to use and that fits Super Saiyan 3 perfectly.

Or in the other direction, I could shut him down even further and have his transformations be Kaio-Ken > Fake Super Saiyan (A weird semi-canonical movie transformation which is a halfway house between Kaio-Ken and Super Saiyan) > Super Saiyan and REALLY play up the power of the original spiky blonde.  Confusedsj:

On the other OTHER hand, Dragon Ball Super adds a whole new raft of (ridiculous) transformations any one of which might be fun to have as a final capstone (and Super Saiyan 3, well... aesthetically... lets be honest, it isn't Goku's BEST look.)

So what do my fellow Omniversians think? What would you like to see? Please feel free to offer alternative suggestions!

Here's another thought to consider: the mastered base Super Saiyan form, with no energy drain, could be represented by actually buying enough stat points to have the same base stat total as a Tier 1 Power-Up on a fresh prime (5 upgrades). Then you can just make going Super Saiyan 1 a flavor thing, T1 as Super Saiyan 2, and so on. I know that's a stretch goal and a ton of OM, but you'd still get that well before a T3 power-up if you focused on it.

Personally I think starting with Kaioken and then later changing it to SSJ would be cool. Or even just renaming them, with no need to sell back, assuming you were happy keeping the stats the same.

So yeah, buyback plan IMO. Maybe later on when he raises his base stats enough, you could shift them up again and make SSJ1 base flavour, with SSG as his Tier 3.
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

i almost considered a saiyan character, and my rough plan is outlined below. The thing that I was going to do was use the whole power up/powered up form options to allow me to have a bunch of viable transformed states without it feeling redundant or excessive or selling things back.

Kaioken (T1)
Super Saiyan (T1 Power Up form) - > Let's you be more creative with stat layouts.

At some point, you could add a SSJ alt form when he's like, chilling in SSJ, like he did near the end of Z.

Super Saiyan (T2)
(If you feel like it) Super Saiyan 3 (T2 powered up form)

Super Saiyan God (T3)
Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (T3 powered up form)

That's an interesting plan! But... if I understand powered up forms correctly, you don't get any upgrades to your base stats, do you? So they'd be weaker than any transformation of the same tier if I bought stats (which... I do intend to do, eventually).

Right now I'll probably stick with the 'Kaioken eventually becoming SSJ' plan. But hey, plenty of time to ponder between now and Tier 2/3 transformations, haha!

powered up forms are a combination of power ups and alternate forms. If you need to check, the rules are always there.
#7
Yeah, I read that. The way it is written it is a set number of stat points NOT your ' base stat number'. If that is how it works it should be clarified.

http://omniverse-rpg.com/omnistats.php#P...t_Upgrades

"This is a permanent upgrade to your base stats, and affects you at all times. If you have any alternate forms or powered-up forms, these also get a stat increase at the same time as the purchase at no extra cost, and this stat increase may be different from your base form. In a similar vein, if you have any power-ups, you may move one of each of their stats around at the same time at no extra cost."

Ah, so it is listed with the stat increase not the alternate form rules.

I'd suggest that reproducing that information for clarity would probably be helpful. (Just changing it to 'total base stats+5/10/20' instead of 15/20/30 would be much clearer)

That could be unclear as powered up forms are different from power-ups.

As a fellow DB franchise character, I plan on doing mine something like this:

Tier 1 Power-up - SSJ
Tier 1 Power-up Form - SSJ Ascended (buff form)
Tier 2 Power-up - SSJ2
Tier 2 Powered-up Form - SSJ2 Ascended
Tier 3 Power-up - SSGSS (Super Saiyan Blue)
Tier 3 Powered-up Form - UNDECIDED

Since you're using Goku, who has more forms at his disposal you could try:

Tier 1 PU - KK
Tier 1 PUF - SSJ
Tier 2 PU - SSJ2
Tier 2 PUF - SSJ3
Tier 3 PU - SSGSS
Tier 3 PUF - SSGSS KKx10

SSJ2 ascended? Da frank is that? Just a personal term for like, full potential?

Lol, you have to get up-to-date with DBS. Trunks briefly used it.

#14
Oh right, you just mean beefy slow version. I got up to date the other day, then immediately regretted it as I have no more DBS.

I've been really surprised at how the quality has picked up recently.

Mostly because I felt the movies were superior to their respective arcs (other people got to do more in the movies somehow?!). But they've really upped their game lately.

Plus Trunks is cool.

And I also wish I had more of it to watch Sad

Overall, the animation has been inferior to DBZ, but I blame that more on the production than anything else. Not Toriyama's fault.

It's just good to have a REAL arc in DBS. 2/3 prior ones were remakes of the movie, and the Universe arc left a lot on the plate. Black Goku arc is working perfectly, and they're not rushing it.

Oh, another random Goku-related question I've been musing!

My understanding of Super Moves is that they don't really change depending on having a downside (the downside being the SP expenditure)?

With that in mind, do you guys think it would be more fitting to have Spirit Bomb be a regular move with insane downsides regarding time to charge (essentially something it is only feasible to pull out in group fights where other people are willing to run interference) ... which seems like it fits the show more, or do you think having it as a Super Move and activating it like one of the fighting games would be cooler? (Mash LB + RB, get HUGE ORB OF DOOM)

It isn't like I'm short of potential moves and super moves either way so it is just a matter of category and sticking to canon really!

I'm sure you could create a Super move that requires a charge time, but has the potential of doing more damage than a usual Super of that tier

But approval would be up to staff.

A while back that was changed and Super Moves were required to have all standard move descriptions because they were now affected by stats. I'm not sure how far you can actually take that into consideration (can you have enough downsides to have an effective Tier 1.5 move that will always defeat at Tier 1 Super Defense?)

You could have the Spirit Bomb that Goku first learned from King Kai as a normal move w/ variable uses, and then have the Super Spirit Bomb that he uses just about every time after the Saiyan Saga as a Super Move. And as you unlock more Tiers, you can make stronger versions at higher Tiers.
