For me, for Samus, just about any music from the games. Honestly, Metroid's music has just the perfect feel of ambient creepiness and rising terror. For me, intro from Fusion has just the right blend of foreboding and awesomeness for the beginning of any story. I listen to it a lot.

Parasite Queen from Metroid Prime is an obvious classic.
Meta Ridley from Metroid Prime is another excellent one.
Dark Samus from Metroid Prime 3.
Gandrayda from Metroid Prime 3.
The Ending (Metroid metal) This tune is an exception among all the Metroid themes. The director stated it's the only tune where he'll allow it to be all-out celebratory, and it shows in how rockin' it is. This is my favourite version, though the last minute is overkill. 2:12 is the cue to headbang.

Honestly I can't really listen to music with lyrics when I write, because I have to fight the urge to sing along or rock out (so no Megas, unfortunately)

So, much like Greg, most of the music I listen to is from video games, both Mega Man and Super Mario RPG. Although some tracks on my Silent Hill OSTs are amazing for ambiance when writing

Listening to what Bomb Man's stage music actually sounds like just makes the Megas rendition so much more chillingly awesome.

Fucking love Tiz's special move theme from Bravely Default also. When you hear it, you know some poor mook is gonna get jacked up. Ringabel's and Edea's are pretty pumping-up too, though nowhere near as epic as the Tiz.

I also found this version where a fat Japanese woman sings it where crawling around on stage, so that's cool.
