PvP Flags
#41
Tbh, Desco, I think you're overreacting a bit and making WAY too many assumptions about this system.

I mean, personally, having a flag that shows whether or not you want to be attacked is perfectly fine for me. Now, if it's bounty or base related, then sadly the rules come before this system, but I'm fairly certain no one would be so much of an asshole as to randomly attack someone without proper forewarning first, anyway.

Also, this system isn't even official. It isn't like you are REQUIRED to use it, anyway. Why are you making such a big deal out of something you don't even NEED to use?

And finally, I don't think having a flag say one thing makes it suddenly "drama" or "socially unacceptable" if you go "well, I'm gonna be IC and do this." I'm sure we are all sensible, respectful people who can understand why others do other things.

From my understanding, you are worried that this system will cause drama or some kind of crap in the long run due to the nature of the flags, which is totally understandable.

However, I think pretty much everyone here agrees that those flags are more or less something that says "I would prefer you not randomly attack me."

Emphasis on RANDOM. If you notify someone beforehand, then the attack isn't random, is it?

Just my P.O.V on this whole thing.

Because this is all you have to say to guilt trip someone that ignores the flag.

The Flag is 'I Don't Want to Fight' when red.

Its trying to raise the bar socially, so that people don't just go around attacking people with 72 hours notice like the rules allow. Great, its fine to talk to people about it in chat. Its not a bad idea to have those rules change to something more lenient. It is a bad idea to sort everyone on the forum to who wants to do PvP and who doesn't in a list everyone can see to make it so anyone that even considers doing PvP feel out of place when they decide to ignore a target's flag.

Uh;

I believe Thaal my have mixed up his wording a bit, but in the actual flag, it says nothing about not wanting to participate, it is just simply asking that the person be informed before hand. They might be in a crucial storyline for their character, they might be about to go into a period of inactivity, or other things of a similar situation.

Thaal put this in the Arcade because it was supposed to be a nice little, optional, add-on for those who wanted it. Not because he wanted it to be discussed or picked apart like you are currently doing.

I don't normally do this, but I am giving you a Warning Desco. You a being quite the Diva and are trying to pull problems out of this topic, when there are none. You are also being really disrespectful to Thaal.

I mean, if you don't give a shit about how a person feels, then you don't give a shit about how a person feels. If you don't care what a person's preference is, then why do you care if they're upset?

Like, the implication is that if you're ignorant to a person's feelings, you can't be guilty when you hurt them. That's SPECIFICALLY what I'm trying to prevent. If you know a person's feelings and you ignore them, then you are accountable for your actions.

Also, if you DO care about a person's feelings, it allows you to NOT ACCIDENTALLY hurt somebody's feelings because you DO know their feelings.

Yo, if you wanna fuck me up even if I'm RED without any kind of warning, I don't give a FUCK. You do you, man. I just know you don't give a God damn about my fun or my plans. You about to not giving a shit. If you don't give a shit, that's whatever, you aren't breaking the rules, but we all know that you don't care.

Like, your while argument revolves around people not feeling bad for ignoring the desires of other people, by essentially creating a situation where they can say, "well they didn't say no!" Which is weak as dick

Fine, a Warning.

Then one last post Minato?

I'll quote the OP again.

Quote:If you break the rules, I can't do anything about it, but I'll call you out for everyone to see and make a huge stink about what an asshole you're being. Again, this project is optional for everyone involved, if you can't follow the rules, don't use it.

Public Shaming for not following the OP in this topic. Following the rules of the board should be inherently okay. This kind of thing should never happen to anyone on the board. It is NOT okay for this to be policy.

Quote:If you are participating in this system, please respect your fellow writers enough to not randomly attack them if you are in RED or YELLOW status. That's just a dick move. Have a public discussion on the board about whether or not its ok with the other person, as they would hopefully do for you.

Um yeah, so about that whole context thing

Let's not get all off topic because of choice of words/context.

Basically, if someone is in RED or YELLOW, a common courtesy notification is strongly advised.

People that are GREEN (by choice, artefact, or bounty) are open to being attacked.

Sounds fair enough to me.

EDIT: I like this idea; it reminds me of GTA5, where if you're holding a weapon in online play you're automatically at risk of attack (which would result in lost funds and weaponry, maybe even a trashed vehicle). If you're not holding anything that makes you a threat (bounty or artifact) you have the option refrain from violence, given or received.

If someone would like for you to converse with them before attacking them AND it is not for a bounty, artifact, or base assault, then, whats the big deal with that Desco?

I agree that publicly shaming someone for pvp, when the site is built to create PVP moments is not cool, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

I think Thaal's flag suggestion is great, though his presentation can, at some times, be shit. Still, there is nothing wrong with people wanting to be informed of attacks prior to them beginning.

I think the color system may have mislead you. Red doesn't mean "NO, STOP, DON'T PVP ME!" It literally means, "Yo, message me and collaborate with me on how we are going to go about this PVP."

So, it's not publicly shaming you if you do not adhere to the flags, but, if you are not wanting to collaborate then why are you on a collaborative style rpg?

I also don't think Desco had any intentions that were warn worthy, not that my opinion matters, but I did get the feeling that Desco misunderstood and thought RED meat he couldn't pvp someone in a case where the rules totally state he should be able to.

My understanding: Desco thought these flags prevented PVP from happening in situations where the rules allow them to AND thought he would be shamed for following the rules. I don't think Desco realized these flags were for surprise attacks. It appears they thought they were for ALL attacks and to Pvp someone with a red flag would shame him. Not true. Pvp red flags all day. Just give them a heads up first.

This idea is cool. Good shit Thaal.

Since it caused some confusion I will clarify.

Red = I would liked to be messaged before being involved in PvP
Yellow = I am transitioning between Red and Green, I would also like to be messaged before being involved in PvP
Green = Come get me *****es, I don't care if you message me or not.

Now, like Thaal said in the OP;

Quote:If you are participating in this system, please respect your fellow writers enough to not randomly attack them if you are in RED or YELLOW status. That's just a dick move. Have a public discussion on the board about whether or not its ok with the other person, as they would hopefully do for you.

The most important part here is the bold section. Everything in that quote, is in direct relation to the actual act of Participating in this system. It is not some overbearing law that applies to everyone. Just the people that acknowledged and are participating in this system.

Common courtesy, not Law.

Devon is going to be red.

As Dean is more my PvP character, Devon is going to be my more story focused one. Though if PvP happens, then it happens... but I would just like some warning first with this one.

Never too late to join, right?

Both my characters ("Yang Xiao Long" and "Amaterasu") get the RED flag.
