A Fine City

[Desman Black]

Desman thought about the question, in truth, he only wanted to make sure that the girl who called herself Shion didn't get hurt becurse of him. "Well, I did see more of those gates back in the nexus, maybe in one of them we can find some people who are more, 'accepting' of my appearance and are willing to help us, with this. Desman replied, hoping that it would persuade her enough to atleast get out of the city, if it wasn't for the fact that it felt like he would be abbandoning her, he quite happyly would of gone off by himself right there and then, but of course, fate sometimes has it's own plans.

Yuki nodded and looked around. "Perhaps if we found the main road that cuts through the city, we'll have an easier time getting out of here." She crossed her arms and looked around, scanning the area for a pathway that was much wider and busier than the sidestreet they were currently on. I'd love to see more of this place for myself but... I suppose that can wait. After all, I have quite a lot of time to explore now... She sighed and started to walk in a direction, venturing a guess the main road wasn't too far from where they were and basing her conclusion on the number of figures she saw passing by further down the other side of an alleyway.

The robot nodded his agreement of the Blue haired girl's plan before following to where she thought it might be.

'I thought the plan was to get her away from people when she's near us.'

'No, the plan was to make sure she didn't get hurt because of us, and I asume most people will leave us alone if we're out in the open.'

I still don't like her plan...
'Fine, I'll talk to her about leaving.'

The trio was nearly at the end of the ally when Desman spoke up. "Hey, Shion. I have a question, why are you helping me? I mean, I didn't give you the most welcoming introduction, and you can leave at any time. That has got to be easier on you, right?"

Yuki stopped and turned to Desman. "Hm? Hmm..." She paused for a moment and leaned against the wall closest to her. "I believe in giving second chances. I've always made it a point to try to find something good within a person or... robot, in your case. Back home, that's what tied us together..." She sighed, mere flashes of memories going through her mind. "We had someone knew join us, a completely robotic being save for a heart and a brain contained within his body as the final traces of what he was before becoming what he is. Many didn't like him. He was... nontraditional. He didn't seem intent on harming anyone either. I gave him a chance. There were others among us who also had bad reputations or something, based on age old actions people never let go of. I gave them a chance too, and no one I've given a chance has failed it yet." For a moment, there was a flicker in her eyes that hinted at some emotion, perhaps sadness. She closed her eyes and got off the wall. "I know going to the busiest part of the city isn't the best for you, based on how disapproving the people seemingly are of technology. But it is the easiest way out. Though, I suppose, if you'd rather try bounding off rooftops, that's another option."

Desman let it a small chuckle in response to the comment about bouncing of rooftops. "No offence but if you hadn't noticed, I don't really have legs to bounce off."Desman lightheartedly responded, pointing down to his wheels. "If the buildings had ramps I could l launch off them, but I'd probably be to slow anyway. I guess you just have to carry me. But in all seriousness, I wasn't opposing your plan, well I was but..." Desman tone grew sadder again as he continued speaking, "It's only because I don't want another person to die becauseof me, you can understand that, right?"

Yuki looked over Desman. It's true he lacked legs. Why hadn't she noticed? "Oh, my apologies! For some reason I didn't even notice!" She gave a slight bow to add to her apology as a gesture and paused about midbow, staring at the middle of the robot's mid region. "Die because of you..? I'm not to sure of what you mean and I won't pressure for details. But if anything... If it involves an assault of sorts, I can hopefully manage." She straightened her posture and flicked back her hair, the jewelry she wore flickering light off their chromatic metal surfaces. Yuki tapped at a silver brace on her arm that looped once, the ends curling away from each other and holding a blue opal. "The world I'm from created weapons of arcana essences, concealed as jewelry and form into a weapon, armour, or shield if needed.", she explained. A good look at her would reveal several pieces of jewelry that matched her overall aesthetics. Silver chromatic metal with filigree engravings and blue opals or sapphires accenting them.

All Desman did in response to the new information that had been given was joke, probably to try and lighten the mood from earlier. "It figures that with all my universe hopping, I just thought that with my luck it wounldn't happen so quickly." After hearing the girls response, Des started mapping out a plan "Anyway the best way to attract the least attention would be to go right from here as it means we won't need to cross over the road and allows just merge into the group after that we continue straight onwards until we get to the outer wall, which, if the main road here also goes straight should have a exist at that point, if not, we just follow it around until we get to one. Any objections?"

"I know you're wary about others attacking you off the bat because you're different. But if we just take the main road that cuts through the city, it's the easiest way out of here. Rather than wander around aimlessly. And I'm sure the road that leads along the edge of the city is just as busy as the main road. Getting lost and taking side paths isn't going to get us, more importantly you, out of here as quickly as desired.", Yuki said. She crossed her arms and looked towards the main roads. "Just... don't make eye contact, and keep going straight. You'll be out of here quicker than you think."

"Oh, I thought that was the main road, but I guess I'll let you lead, even if you don't live here you would still have some more experience in a world of magic then I do."

While following Shion, A.N.N.A and Des started arguing over the current plan. 'so much for not following her plan.'

'Well, it looks like she knows what she's doing, and she says she can protect herself.'

'That's not the point!'

'Then what is.'

'It's, um...'

'Oh, I see, your jealous.'


'No I'm not!'

'Came on it's...' Before Desman could finish his sentence he bumped into the outer wall of the city, 'You did that on purpose, didn't you.'

'Maybe...'

'If you weren't inside my head I would punch you right now' Desman looked off to the side of him to see an Ark like the one they entered the city though. "At least we found the exit."

Yuki kept walking, making sure to stay near the side of the street so they wouldn't run into any trouble with other passing beings. She occasionally looked back to see if Desman was still nearby and saw him bump into the wall. "Are you alright?", she asked, stopping to make sure the sentient machine wasn't hurt. When it seemed like he was fine, she turned around and kept walking, stopping at the edge of the city to notice the familiar archway that she could only assume would lead back into the Nexus. "Ah, yeah. And we got out in one piece, which is always good."

While traveling along thesecondoad that first lead the trio into the city, they found a massive crater in the middle of it of which Desman was quick to sarcastically comment on.Ha, you'd think one of us would notice a giant hole in our path, I'm going to check it out.


'Just be careful, okay'

'Don't worry, just a quick glance and we'll move on.'

As Des leans over the edge he sees what looks like a black microchip, but before he could pick it up he was bounced by another robot slightly taller in hight. It's eyes were pitch black, with the rest of it's body rusting and falling apart, the only things that seem completely attached were to magnet like pinsirs coming out of the head and a spring that replaces the lower half of it's body. Desman tried to push this second robot off of him but it just pushed back, making a hissing sound that sounded like they were trying to say 'mine' before chomping down aiming for Desman's chest.

"Your magic jewelry would be helpful right now!"

Yuki blinked for a moment, the crater just odd in itself but the new robot all the more surprising. "Oh r-right!" She grabbed the braces on her arms, the two silver bands melting off and morphing into long chains barbed with either the same metal or sapphire shards. Yuki twisted around to throw the chains and hooked the robot, the chains wrapping around, and tried to pull it away. But a sudden twist by to robot itself sent her airborne, only for her to quickly reorient herself to land ln the ground and use the current mentum to try and pull or throw the robot off Desman.

The new found momentum did manage to pull the rusted robot enough to allow Desman to reverse and stabilise himself. The robot still kept trying to bite at Des though, using their strength to very slowy move towards Desman, biting and clawing at him, at the same time pulling Yuki towards the crater.

"Hey, I don't want to fight you. I'm sure we can work things out if we jus- Woah!!" As the robot gets closer, Desman has to move backwards to make sure he isn't hit. Trying to keep the same speed as his opponent, Des continues negotiating. "Could you maybe stop for a second, please. I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding, once we sort this out I'll leave you and your items alone." Desman sighed. 'This isn't working.'

'You think?'

"Umm, okay. Look over there! Desman pointed behind the two of them, managing to distract the robot so that he could punch them. Unfortunately,  the robot was already up in the air, pouncing at yuki before Des got a chance to hit."Shion!!" Without thinking, Desman fired a round of elemental shots, the first two missing the robot while the third hit them right in the chest, changing the course to right behind thier target. "N-no, no no no no no! Des panicked as he spead towards where his opponent landed. "You can't be dead, everthing is going to be alright." Desman continued to tell himself that, and then also the robot as he got close enough. "Please don't die, please don't die. It's going to be alright." Des was already in full-blown panic mode by now, it only got worse as the last the the robot's light faded. I-I can still save you. All I need is an electronical current. Des started tring to pull of his plating in desperation, when he realized that it was no use his head dropped, and drops of water that looked tears piled up under the bottom corners of his visor.

Yuki steps up a places a reassuring hand on Des's shoulder. "It's going to be okay."

"No!"Desman suddenly snapped back. "No, it's not okay! Do you know what it's like to live every chapter of your life with someone dying, hoping, wishing that next time it will be different,  but it never is! Do YOU know what it's like to have people die because of you, to have people die because their around you! Do YOU know what it's like to have people die in your name, to have people die by your furry,  to have people sacrifice themselves so you can GOD DAMN LIVE! No, I don't think you do. Desman points at the now dead robot to explain the next part. THIS is what happens to the people around me! THIS is what I was afraid of back in the city! THIS is what will happen to you if you stay with me! Now I'm going to go back to the nexus, and I'm going to go out as far as I can, so no one can find me, so this never happens again! Desman now turns up to the sky and directs the rest of his outrage towards it. You here that universe, or Omni, or whoever the fuck thinks they can play with my life next, I won't let you win!" Before Desman could leave for the nexus, Yuki turns him around to say something in response. A little further away, behind a large rock, a short little man with glasses watched from the distance...

What Desman had thought she was short and simple and misunderstood amidst the sudden confusion of actions. But what she really said was much more considerate than a measly "It's going to be okay." What she really said was a question, "Are you going to be okay?"

Yuki's mind flashed another fresher, much more sour memory. Her eyes narrowed as she felt a rage building up to Desman's tantrum. She let go of the robot only to grab his opposing shoulder and turn him around to face her, one hand still gripping the two chains tangled with the now deceased scrap Desman mourned with.

"You think I had everything in my world handed to me? You think I don't understand what loss or struggle is? You honest to gods think that I do not know what it is like to see people die around me or to see what death has done to others?" Yuki inched closer to the robot's visor, her luminous white pupils narrowed and staring straight into his.

"I have lived eons upon eons in my world. I used to be someone of the gods. I had a champion before me. I had legions. I had allies. I have seen my own members fall around me and before me. I was murdered by my own brother and was brought back by my God of Death to mend the damages done. Uncountable damages. Physical. Mental. Emotional. I have seen how my Champion, my own love, broke from his loss. I have seen how much it scarred him enough to become so paranoid. I can only imagine what my absence now has done to him.

I have seen from other Gods, who has died and how they mourn for those who were killed around them. And you.... You literally attacked this robot in a vital area to kill to mourn?

Listen, Desman. You know nothing about me to make such an assumption. And you brought this pain onto yourself. I know not your other encounters akin to this, but you should not fear loss if you are the cause of it." She leaned back, calmed down but still staring at him intently. As he stormed off. "If you truly feared loss, you wouldn't have committed to murder and instead find another solution to that issue.", she said as she went to untangle the chains and change them back into the thin braces that wrapped over her biceps.

"You think I did this on purpose? " The tone of his voice had changed slightly,  the anger was of course still there, but he seemed to be crying now as well. "If you hadn't noticed, tgey were pouncing onto you! If I hadn't done something he could have killed you, or you could have killed him in self defense!  No matter what I do or don't do, someone always dies because of me! It was that why with the others too, with Hugo, with Axel, w-with Nexus." The last name was said in a significantly lower volume then rest, like he hoped that no one would hear. "Trust me,  I want to accept that fact, but I can't. Because accepting that fact, means I lose my humanity,  and my humanity,  no matter how small it becomes, is the only thing stopping me from losing the one thing I don't fear losing. But I know there are countless lives I've touched, countless people that still love me, and I can't put them though the same things I went, and stillgo, though. " He seemed to have stopped crying at this point, the next lines out of his mouth being clear and of normal volume. Shion, I just want you to promise me one thing. When we part ways, if you ever see me again,  no matter what you want to do to me, or how much you want to do it. Just turn around, and leave." And with that, Des started walking off towards the nexus, where he would hopefully find somewhere to be alone, that was, until Yuki said something in repose."

Yuki stared at the robot, a look of disbelief on her face to the question. "If you truly want my honest answer, yes I do indeed believe you did this one purpose. Killing another when attempting to save someone and then lamenting over death as if it was unnecessary is absolutely your own doing." She finished detangling her chains from the metallic corpse and turning them back into the simple bangles they were. Yuki slipped the pieces of jewelry on her arms before speaking again. "I'm not green towards combat. I try to avoid it as much as possible, but I can fend for myself." A glance from Desman traveled to the robot. "Before you consider saving someone else, you should learn self-restraint so you don't have to deal with death like this." She could tell Desman truly did care for life, but she felt more that he was upset over something he could have easily prevented. Perhaps the other deaths he claimed to be his fault weren't enough of an alarm for him to recognise such a large issue with himself. She turned to face towards the city. "I suppose this is where we part ways. But, she we ever cross paths again, I do hope you have a bit more control over your abilities and weaponry.", Yuki said before heading back toward the place to explore a bit.
