Moveset Analysis
#61
When I wrote against Tearen in the latest DA, I noticed a few of his Moves were geared towards a "once per round" deal. Those with that caveat I excluded from my own writing, as I didn't feel comfortable "wasting" his Move in my own post, so he'd be unable to use it in his own.

That said, he and Malon absolutely stomped me and Archer in that fight as well. Probably a combination of superior writing and overwhelming power. The guy IS like #2 on the OM Rankings.

If you're THAT concerned about fighting people that you're "weak" against, look into tipping the odds in your favor. For example, I went to take down Android 17 not long ago. But I did so after he was weakened by a recent fight. Yeah, I still lost, but the results were far closer than they'd have been if I'd tried to fight him at full-strength. Another example would be when The Institute went after Volvagia. Tea didn't try to solo the dragon. He gathered a team, made plans with the Gorons, and pushed every conceivable variable he could to his favor. If you feel like a fight won't go your way, you have more options than: "I'ma just go for it and hope for the best."

Mmm I'm not saying you did anything wrong with your character specifically. Just that at a glance I don't think it would be fun, that I wouldn't really get to show much of Desco because there wouldn't be much for her to do. I don't really mind losing so much.

The final test would be to actually have a fight and see how it goes.

I'll put it this way, the blue control metaphor. Blue control wins by stopping it's opponent from doing anything to begin with.

A rogue in WoW wins in PvP by getting his first stun on you and then not messing up his combo. Stunlocking you until you've died.

That's not a fun thing to play against.

If I want to game this I would probably ask about a tier 2 super move that inflicts a status which seals Telepathy on its target rendering them unable to use the power or moves associated with it. Disgaea has a couple debuffs I could spin to this effect.

But this isn't really fun either, I don't want to inorganically try to give her moves for metagaming.

And I'll post this for emphasis, once per round is not a drawback for warp burst. Because you can have an unlimited number of moves, arbitrary cooldowns like that have no real effect. You could buy 5 variants of Warp Burst and then have 5 uses of essentially the same move. Once per round doesn't mean anything, stamina cost does.

So it's deflects anything, yes I know it wouldn't actually deflect super moves in general circumstances but enough stats could overcome that, Desco can put a large amount of power into her one shot fireball and you deflect it and that ends her post. It didn't cost you much to stop me but I spent a fair amount of energy for a good attack.

It doesn't say what kind of power it's intended for or the maximum it can deflect. If I charge 30 seconds for an energy blast can you deflect that? The language is ambiguous

This is the Moves 101 that I refer to saying cooldowm means nothing http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...t=Cooldown

And how about stop using arguments that I don't know what I'm talking about and Tearen does based on experience. This is a false point meant to reduce the value of what I have to say based on something other than what I said.

The only thing you seem to be really saying here is that there's a lot of potential for abuse of my moves, but I'd conjecture that's true of a lot of moves. I believe the record shows I'm not interested in that. Additionally, If I dumped enough OM to overblow my stats to the point most attacks were rendered useless, I'd dare say I earned it.

But I haven't and it really just feels like you're picking on me for no specific reason, which I'm fine with, but that's not what this thread is for, so please flambé me in discord or cbox instead.

Mmm, well...

You are here to provide help to others movesets yes? Your first move doesn't follow the first part of the Moves FAQ, that cooldown doesn't really affect the power of your move. That is what I would like a response to.

I've always considered in moves that some things go without saying. The more benefits your move has, comparatively to another move the weaker it is. A very simple move like my One Shot Fireball. It has one advantage of being large which reduces its power but its not particularly fast or slow, or unusually strong. For this it also has no significant drawback. Against your move that deflects projectiles with a 0.5 second cast time, would it deflect? Would the fireball stop and destroy the shield on impact instead of being deflected? Would its size envelop the shield instead and partially pass by? After all, your move isn't an area defense and this attack is an area attack. With Desco's 4 ATK to your 5 TEC you would have the edge.

Its the only move you have I have a particular problem with. I think talking of your moveset is properly on topic

Desco has four other moves that would be difficult to block with this defense inherently. Her basic magics are all summoned on top of you. Fire bursts from below your feet, ice covers you from above, a tornado also bursts at your feet and stars attack you from three lateral directions.

Her basic melee attacks with Yogsothoth are normally a two directional strike, with only a 3 foot coverage Desco could inherently work around it  stretching around and attacking from two different sides.

The move isn't perfect against Desco but that isn't the point.

She also has an advantage that were a fight in the Nexus you may have a hard time teleporting with your out of sight teleport, because Desco has 360 degree vision. There isn't anything outside of her field of vision. But Desco isn't consciously aware of that field of vision either, Yogsothoth instinctively reacts to what the additional eyes see while catching Desco unawares if you stab her in the back.

His Move isn't significantly more powerful or different from any number of other Defensive Moves. For example, I have a Deflection Move which hardens my skin against attacks. It has nearly the same drawbacks as Tearen's Move. Defensive Moves of that type are actually incredibly common.

Furthermore, remember that his shield isn't even all-encompassing. It's a 3 foot diameter circle. Meaning: anything larger than 3 ft will have, at minimum, partial effect, or you can attack from an angle not covered by the shield.

Reading your opponents' abilities and forming a strategy to overcome them is pretty basic Fight prep.

Deflection is inherently powerful, that means not taking damage instead of what Desco does, reduce damage by hardening skin.

And it's not just that but that a deflection can be used offensively. It's not just negate attack, it throws the attack at something else. in group battles this is very notable even if you can't aim the deflect direction

If you're hyperfocusing on Warp Burst, that's probably why it seems off to you. If you read any number of my other moves, a common drawback is that they burn out Tearen's telekinesis or telepathy powers for a short time. That renders Warp Burst unusable quite often, and makes for more openings than I think you're willing to admit.

Furthermore, being a single-directional block, it means that any teammates you might have could easily flank the shield. Don't have teammates? Get an assist.

Bottom line, the move was approved as it's written, so your scrutiny is starting to border on mini-modding. If you want me to opine on either of your Prime's moves, please ask, but keep your personal gripes out of this thread. It's meant to help, not judge.

Fine I would like to end with this. Doesn't matter. That is also in the moves faq. Turning off your other moves doesn't affect the power of your moves.

EDIT: The spirit of this is not inherently wrong but may need clarification because I found some new things out. But yea, the power of your other move locking you out of this move passively empowering it at all times, that doesn't make sense? But having a group of moves locked out by using a certain move increasing that moves power.. is allowed. Kinda breaks the spirit of things.

@Schwi:
A round based cooldown does work. Since you'll only get 3 rounds in a fight, it's essentially limiting him to 3 uses. And limited ammo is usually regarded as a limitation.

Also, global cooldowns are regarded as drawbacks. That's even one of the suggested alternatives to a simple "I can't use this move again for X seconds".

Anyway, it was approved. Stop complaining about it. It might not be my place to butt in here, but if you're concerned over Tearen being so much stronger than you due to the versatility and countering his moves and powers offer, perhaps you should start filling your own weaknesses in your moves to better your chances.

@Tearen:
Got any move advice for Eb? I know Meta Magic ain't the most cost-effective more in the world, since I'm not going to need all the variants. I've still got some unused elements left though, so there's some debuff options left to cover things I might have missed.

Besides that, I'm probably going to gear for support options, and eventually, pick up healing, and maybe survival.

I guess I need more ways to escape melee, and deal with stuff in close range? I don't plan on Eb to move much though, she's more of an artillery battery with a reasonable defense. Do you have any suggestions of counters and ways to nullify her weaknesses while sticking with that theme?

Ebony:

I like the idea that her Scythe can be summoned and dismissed, and I almost wonder if the magical energy she invests in manifesting it could be reabsorbed and diverted to other moves, sort of like an emergency backup charge.

The move I'm visualizing in my head is disintegrating the scythe if someone seems like they're going to overwhelm her and using it to overcharge her telekinetic shove attack. Something like that. If you yourself don't want to move, move your opponent.

Your other option is to start investing in Assists, which any aspiring badass really needs. These could be simple things like golems, but could also be wacky fun things like flying hellscythes, black fire ghosts, or literally just a giant fuck-off wall that acts as a bouncer for Ebony if someone tries to get close. A really fun option might be for Ebony to get a familiar that can act as an auxiliary firing platform for her magical attacks, i.e., a cat that can sneak around to flank an opponent that can fire a metamagic spell which Ebony channels to it.

Even just the act of giving an enemy more than one target to worry about will go a long way towards keeping you high and dry.

Workin' on it dude.

Dear T

In your opinion, should I focus on more electrical combos or trap moves in the near future?

Carm:

Gurl, what you really need is a Super Attack and a Power-Up.

It can be a supercharged electric attack or a gas grenade, idk, but you need something that can deck any Prime you manage to ensnare with delicious traps.

Similarly, if you're fighting a STAT monster, you're going to need a little extra moxy to keep up.

If you're still doing this I'd like to get some feedback now that my moveset is a little bit more filled out.

If you're still doing this I also request it for Gaston.

Renji:

Overall I'd say your offensive and defensive parrying abilities are well rounded for a duelist or someone fighting with support. You may want to consider some defensive Assists or Area Denial attacks to give you some cover if you're outnumbered.

Additionally, I would say your biggest concern is mobility. Having low defense means that you need to be able to get the hell away from casual steamrollers/artillery nuts like Okor or Ghidorah. Maybe using Kuzuru's chain as a grapping hook or swing line or something?

As for Renji, since he appears to be the more defensive of your two forms, you may want to consider giving him a T2 Defense. Just some badass soul-power forcefield, I dunno. That's optional though; I'd go for mobility first.

Gaston:

At this point I'd say you've certainly got a nice set of fundamental attacks; heavy and light ranged, heavy and light melee, a shield, a super.

So now it is time for you to....go in literally any direction you want. It occurs to me that Gaston is a hunter, so maybe get a bear trap move, or a pitfall maybe? Also consider investing in some heavier defenses since Gaston is starting to mature as a Prime. I would avoid buying new direct attacks and invest in things that help tilt a fight in your favor.

As I'm determined to stick with Warren and Matthew, and earn my third, I request a Moveset Analysis for Warren.

@Warren: I may not be Tearen, but perhaps start by adding your moves to your roster.
