OmniLottery Poll

Monkey D. Luffy Wrote:In regards to "giving away OM," what would you call the Book Club, Voting, and Fortnightly Bonuses? All of that is free OM earned outside of actually roleplaying. Also, the 50% Participation Bonuses fall under the umbrella of Gifted OM.

The difference is that none of those activities involve the roleplayers themselves giving their OM away; it's brand new OM that isn't subtracted from anywhere. The OM gained that way may be earned and awarded for OOC activities/reasons, but it is still earned and awarded in much the same manner as regular OM. In other words, those activities don't involve the exchange of OM between members, but are simply a net gain. By comparison, OM is exchanged among members in the case of the lottery; indirectly, but even so, it does change hands.

I know that may seem minor/trivial, but if members are permitted to give away OM for the lottery, it will inevitably raise the question as to why they can't give away OM to other members directly as well.

Thus my suggestion that you have to use the Fortnightly Gains and purchase them in the same thread. SInce It happens at the same time. You never get the OM until the FG happens and its updated. It is just risking your OM OOC before you get it.

Some players that participate may not be eligible for Fortnightly Gains. However, this would cut back heavily on the amount of Purchase/Deduction logs to keep track of, so not a bad idea.

I am against it if you have to PAY OM that your character has already received. Because you are gambling RAW OM.

You said, if I can recall it, tht this happens during the Fortnighly Gains, You don't get that OM until it's updated. It is for RPing, or being active, some how.

There may be a few that don't write, that have their opinions and do the book club. But I am and always be firm on, "Play the game."

If you have enough time to read and critique the Book CLub. Then you have enough time to write 600 words.

But I won knock them for it. But I tihnk this NEEDS TO BE DONE RIsking OM before you receive it. Thus only during Fortnightly Gains.

Hmm. I could amend it so that folks simply have to state in the fortnightly gains topic how many tickets they are purchasing, between 1 and 4. The cost would them simply be deducted from their Fortnightly Bonus. So say I purchase 2 tickets for 50 OM. My Fortnightly Bonus would then be lowered to 250 OM.

This would prevent the need for purchase logs, while also providing more incentive for players to write, since they may only participate if they've written at least a 600 word post.

Poor guy who has to do Fortnightlies with variable OM prizes...

Though, it DOES seem like less work overall to not do all the lottery stuff separately.

Well the Lottery will still have its own thread, and I'll be taking care of prize distributions and such. Only thing the Fortnightly Bonus editor will have to do is check how much OM everyone gets since it won't be a flat 300 for those who play the lottery, it could be 200, 225, 250 or 275.

I'm always up for extra OM.

Plausible Amendment: I'm thinking of allowing players to instead use their Voting or Book Club rewards to pay for tickets as well, if they can't qualify for Fortnightly Gains.

So this got a lot of positive feedback. Was there any chance this was being considered?

I'm not a fan.

Hypothesizing that a given jackpot could be anywhere between 200-400 OM, plus a fortnightly bonus, someone could potentially walk away with 700 OM in a fortnight for only putting minimal effort into the site.

In my opinion, OM should only ever be earned through tangible and diligent work.
And, we dream of home I dream of life out of here Their dreams are small My dreams don't know fear I got my heart full of hope I will change everything No matter what I'm told How impossible it seems We did it before And we'll do it again We're indestructible Even when we're tired And we've been here before Just you and I
Don't try to rescue me I don't need to be rescued

My main question is: Why? What purpose would this lottery serve? It's not as if people don't have enough to spend OM on, and even if people were just looking to burn OM, they "run the risk" of getting a huge lump sum back? It seems like a shit ton of work for no discernible purpose. Am I missing something here?
