There was a brief time when I was considering bringing shinji to the omniverse. Instead of his EVA being a thing separate from him, I had it so the EVA was inside him, and that when survival panic set in or he felt the need, he could turn into EVA 01
I ended up keeping Kopaka instead, but maybe you could do something similar with Asuka? Just a suggestion, but I voted for her nontheless. I could rummage up my Shinji app if you wanted to take a gander.
