Character Check?! - Lord Dominator - 07-06-2017

Hey guys! Sorry for my absence - I think it was pretty clear towards the end of my last stay that RL was becoming increasingly difficult to juggle with activity. However! I've had an urge to write once more!

... the difficulty is I'm not sure what I want to write as. 

I am pretty set on starting over; I dislike picking up characters again after a long hiatus. So, at least partly to get my thoughts down on paper, I'd like to ask for opinions on who I should return as. 

Having given it a looot of thought, I've narrowed it down as follows: 

Villains

Harley Quinn

Classic Flavour Harley! I genuinely believe that Harley's comic run was one of the best series that DC ever produced. Funny, clever, and giving her some independence from her abusive relationship - Harley has a great personality and could be a lot of fun. There's a lot of scope for crime sprees and sewing confusion, whilst Harley herself rarely goes so dark that killing her is clearly the best option.

Upsides: 
  • Zany heists!
  • Simple power set.
  • Excuse to be anywhere. 
  • Plenty of opportunity for witty banter and puns.
  • Big friggin' hammer.

Downsides: 
  • Limited power set. 
  • Likely to get in trouble early and often. May just take a bullet to the head.
  • Likely to burn bridges quick.
  • Someone might app The Joker and we might not click.

Kane

"You can't kill the Messiah."

King of real time strategy games and god complexes, Kane is a megalomaniac with visions of global domination and the intellect to make it work. Whilst not (traditionally) much of a powerhouse himself, he inspires millions to rise up in his name, and has an awe-inspiring array of minions and mooks to work with. He's charismatic and well-spoken, whilst not being so smooth that he can't fly into a good rage every now and then. 

Upsides: 
  • Awesome goatee.
  • Cool set of minions and the new Forces rules could play nicely with that. 
  • Good for dramatic speeches and has a variety of catchphrases. 
  • Tactical Genius!

Downsides: 
  • More political than a lot of villains. Political RP can be a headache. 
  • Need to wrap my head around fighting as himself. 
  • Does not set his goals small.
  • Requires some buy-in from others regarding his abilities (e.g. being prepared etc)
Heroes


Asuka Langley Soryu

"There's no way I can lose!"

Again, going for the classic rather than the reboot. Asuka is a character I really enjoy. An angry spitfire with major insecurity issues and the determination to prove that she can overcome them. She's a genius pilot and a genuinely good-hearted person... at least, in terms of her motivations; she's also a raging bitch who doesn't mind tearing other people down to make herself feel better. 

Upsides: 
  • Chicks dig giant robots. 
  • Lots of anger and THE DRAMA but in a good way. 
  • No stupid Shinji. 
  • Could have an interesting character arc adapting to life outside of NERV.

Downsides: 
  • I remember giant robots being hard to work in the system but I haven't investigated that. 
  • Also she wouldn't have her support network of people to keep the giant robot running. 
  • Basically 'difficulty adapting to Omniverse'.
  • Somewhat bitchy.
Inquisitor Xaeri

Xaeri is the Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor I used to run a Dark Heresy campaign a few years back. Xaeri is of the Ordo Malleus (essentially daemon hunters) and is something of a Radical - in that she does not hesitate to use her enemy against one another when she can. In the Omniverse, I see her adapting quite quickly to the notion of protecting the vast number of secondaries by taking out dangerous Primes. She has the right sort of mindset to be more adaptable and ready to work with others than many 40k characters. 

Upsides: 
  • 40k has a wide variety of cool weapons and things to play with. 
  • Severe and uncompromising without being downright bitchy. 
  • Good at working with others. 
  • Few groups she can't find a reason to interact with.
Downsides: 
  • Is essentially an OC so requires more work to convince people they are cool. 
  • May be too 'hardline' for a lot of 'good guys'. 
  • Everyone's 40k canon is different.
  • EVERYTHING IS HERESY.

Leeloo Dallas

"Me fifth element - supreme being. Me protect you."

Leeloo was created by an advanced alien race to be the fifth part in their superweapon against evil. She is a 'perfect' being, extremely quick to learn and absorb information, awesome in a fight and with an innate drive to protect others. She also has bright orange hair and some of the most badass fight music in cinematic history. 

Upsides: 
  • Multipass.
  • Cast of cool secondaries. 
  • Quick to adapt and few preconceptions about how things 'should' work so likely to take to the Omniverse well. 
  • Interesting speech pattern.
Downsides: 
  • Extremely limited power set. In the movie she just punches and kicks things. 
  • Likely to grow beyond the initial character quite rapidly in personality as well.
  • 'Perfect Being' requires filling in a lot of blanks.
  • No Korben Dallas.
  • Yes she knows it's a Multipass.
And there we go! If anyone has any thoughts/comments I'd love to hear them. I'm quite impulsive though, so I might make up my mind on a whim and just go for it...

I personally voted Harley Quinn because she would have a fantastic jumping off point for the gang shenanigans about to pop off in Coruscant, involving a lot of people and storylines that have been setting it up.

But also, heresy. Maxumum heresy. 40k Inquisitor woulf be faaantassstic considering how much CHAOS there is here.

Inquisitor Xaeri Has my vote, its an OC and with the 40K lore backing you, you will always have ALLOT of background to fall back to.

Leeloo is a nice character but like you said, she is pretty limited here, you would have to work out a whole new moveset for her. I'd stick with Xaeri.

As Batman i would like a HQ, though you would have to enjoy writing a mental person 24/7 i coulnd't do it.

There was a brief time when I was considering bringing shinji to the omniverse. Instead of his EVA being a thing separate from him, I had it so the EVA was inside him, and that when survival panic set in or he felt the need, he could turn into EVA 01

I ended up keeping Kopaka instead, but maybe you could do something similar with Asuka? Just a suggestion, but I voted for her nontheless. I could rummage up my Shinji app if you wanted to take a gander.

We also already have an Harley Quinn in the Inactive dustbin, so you'd have to ask her author for use...wherever they are.

Personally, I think the inquisitor would be the most fun and interesting, but that being said, it may become boring after a while. She'd be a pretty hard-line character in terms of her morality. If you're not used to dealing with the fact that everything is heresy, but you can't call in an Exterminatus (pity that), then it might get samey and stale after a while.

So Mrs. Multipass would be a good second pick because of that, and given that you can go any direction with her. Though I'd warn that even that comes at a price, and you might feel quite aimless at times if you don't have something planned out.

I collab with her when I just joined the omniverse last year. I kept in contact with her throughout the year on skype when she wasn't active on the site. Unfortunately, around the season of Fall, I couldn't really get a response from her. I assumed life was keeping her away. Good luck on trying to get a word from her.



For my choice, I would love to have another Harley Quinn and interact with her doing crimes on Coruscant. I would say the same what Harlan mentioned. There is a good number of people to roleplay with that theme at the moment. Plus, we got a cool chatroom on discord to talk about gang-related stuff or just hang out. Besides, getting into trouble IC is fun... sometimes. lol
