Odin coughed and stumbled while recovering from the feeding, and a wound in his chest bubbled from where a bullet had punctured his lung. Despite the pain and weakness, he laughed. Blood stained his lips and teeth from the constant coughing, injuries oozed with every chuckle, and his splint was beginning to bend and crack.
“You think that because you will kill me that you will win the fight, but your bloodlust has blinded you,” he chided them. “While you waste your time with a dead man, other’s move to gather resources.” Then he adjusted his gaze to only confront Harlan. “And you. Do you imagine the man back there your ally? He finishes off one opponent while crippling another, and all without risking as much as a broken nail. You play the fool. But do not worry, I will make sure you learn your lesson.”
Odin suddenly swung his spear in a low arc at the vampire’s feet. He tried to simply hop over it, but his body was still slowed from digesting the vitae from his latest feeding. The blade caught his shin and swiped it out from under him. He crashed into the ground, head bouncing off the earth. Odin raised his spear to swing it down on his foe, but Vic rolled into the All-Fathers legs. The spear found nothing but dirt. Odin raised Gungnir to attack again, but Vic kicked his broken knee. It immediately buckled, and the dying god crumpled with a scream.
Harlan stood and dusted off his clothes before kicking Odin in the gut. Blood dribbled from the god’s mouth as he curled up to protect what was left of his organs. The vampire smirked and prepared for a second strike when Odin lashed out with the butt of his spear. It caught Vic between the legs, causing his breath to hitch and giving Odin enough time to stagger up onto his one good leg.
The All-Father immediately struck out with Gungnir, but the vampire jumped back out of the way. Odin’s slow pursuit was easy for Vic to avoid as he pulled out a pair of brass knuckles. “Alright gramps, it’s time to get serious,” he taunted as he slipped the weapons on and stopped his retreat.
The two men circled each other slowly, Vic waiting for a chance to get inside on Odin, and Odin keeping his spear up in a defensive position. Suddenly, Odin when for a wide-arcing attack, and Vic stepped forward. The vampire hunched his shoulder and raised his arm to block the shaft, but it had been a feint. Odin hopped forward and cracked Vic in the nose with his forehead. The stunned vampire stumbled backward, and Odin continued his attack by bringing the end of his spear into Vic’s gut. Then he spun it up high and brought it down on the vampire’s skull like a baseball bat.
*CRACK*
Blood dripped down Vic’s face from the head wound, but it wasn’t what caused him to see red. With a growl, the vampire grabbed Odin by the collar before another blow could be struck. He brought a lead-clad fist across the god’s face and felt a satisfying snap of bone. Odin’s head lolled back as his jaw broke. A second blow landed and broke the ridge above his left eye.
“Let’s here you talk shit now,” Vic spat, giving Odin a momentary reprieve.
“uhi ill ave aye ear,” Odin mumbled.
“What?” Vic asked, surprised the god could even say that much.
Suddenly, he felt something warm spreading across his torso. He looked down and saw that his opponent and jabbed his spear through his stomach. “You still have your spear,” he parroted back. He growled and wound up before delivering a punch that sent the old god flying and ripped the spear from his guts.
