For Enel I sometimes say "Birkan" since that's his nationality, but unless you're writing omniscient, you wouldn't know that.
Honestly I find overuse of different terms for a character distracting. I tend to use contextual ones a lot. In a fight: "his/her opponent/adversary/target". In times of peace: "acquaintance/friend/ally". Or if your narrative voice is so inclined, you could just call him "the asshole" "the god-wannabe" "the bandanna-clad man" "the shirtless man".
