Welcome to DA's first pronoun thread!
Unsure as to whether your opponent is a he, she, or an it?
WELL this isn't their roster which you should always look at, but if they post here saying by example:
Illidan identifies as a male dark elf, a sorcerer, scourge of darkshire.. or some other more basic or more elaborate describers, then it may help you in your coming posts.
The words I like to use to describe Gil are: mage, Fairy Tail mage, wizard, man, human (if the group is all not), auburn-haired man, crash-magic user... man I need some new ones, lol.
Obviously you want to be original as possible too, but sometimes the basics are nice to get down for your friends who are fighting in a big group and can't always read your past work under the time limit.

For Enel I sometimes say "Birkan" since that's his nationality, but unless you're writing omniscient, you wouldn't know that.
Honestly I find overuse of different terms for a character distracting. I tend to use contextual ones a lot. In a fight: "his/her opponent/adversary/target". In times of peace: "acquaintance/friend/ally". Or if your narrative voice is so inclined, you could just call him "the asshole" "the god-wannabe" "the bandanna-clad man" "the shirtless man".

I keep it simple. I tend to use things referring to various shades of blue and references to her short stature when referring to Graowr. Also things like majin, demon (as she technically is), and things referring to rubber, putty or bubblegum, and occasionally throw in 'creature' or 'abomination' into the mix. Also despite her age, her apparent age, along with size and demeanor, tend to make girl more appropriate than woman when referring to her. So there's that for ya. Alliterative descriptions are also always good.

Serious answer, I typically use various synonyms for police officer: the cop, the lawman, the Sergeant, the policeman, man-in-blue, etc.

Harlan is a pale, greyish man in his mid thirties, and has multiple identities.
When he's Harlan Higgs, Boss of the Gentleman Jacks, Wiseguy, Gangster, and conman, he uses denominators that allude to his old-timeyness, his trickster aspect or vampiric nature.
"The conman" "The Ravnos" "The Kindred" "Harlan" etc.
As good natured bumpkin Vic Hendy, he's friendly, jovial, smiling, acquiescent, pastoral, or thoughtful.

Since switching to first person, I've only ever used "I" for Cell. And as long as you make it obvious you're refering to me, I gives no cares about what pronoun you use. Or regular noun. Or expletive.
