I'd like to into great detail with Carn, but there's really just no need.
He's a goofy eldritch clown and he needs a playmate. These digimon fit that bill, and generally have the sort of durability to handle his destructive horseshit. In fact, in some ways, his digimon might be even more impulsively destructive than Carn himself. There is nothing less fun than a prank that's gone too far. The Anomaly may be a madman, but he isn't entirely without sensibility, so I think having a partner that he needs to keep under control might instill some much needed sense of responsibility in the little weirdo.
...though Craniummon is definitely a hardcore badass who doesn't mess around. I'm sure on the rare occasion that Carn might feel the need to call upon that kind of power, he'll be suitably goosed into admitting that maybe there IS a time to take things seriously.
